paige did keep her word and did fly to connecticut after her game. blakely was staying in azzi’s dorm with ice and morgan. azzi helping taking care of blakely especially after her surgery, and blakely also had paige’s help when she was able to make short connecticut trips.

it’s now been three weeks since the whole thing happened and blakely is still struggling with the fact she tore her acl. she’s been moody, she’s barely left the bed since surgery, she’s just been….not herself.

“baby, hey, paige told me to tell you she’s on her way. she’s gonna be able to stay for around 4 days.” azzi said opening the door to her room where blakely was laying looking out the window - watching college kids walk to where ever they’re going, wishing she could be able to do that

blakely just groans in response- basically saying ‘i hear you but i don’t want to talk.’ “baby..” azzi says in a sad tone “how bout you come out in the living room and we can watch a movie with ice and morgan?” azzi asks just trying to get blakely out of the room for the first time in days, honestly probably a week.

blakely doesn’t answer and instead just turns her upper body to the side more, putting an end to the conversation while showing shes not interested in this talk. azzi sighs and leaves the room, gently shutting the door behind her

“yeah shes not getting up, she hasn’t left the bed since i don’t even know when. im getting worried about her. this is so much worse than her other acl recoverys, im genuinely scared that she’s thinking about quitting.” azzi tells paige over the phone when paige called saying shes landed and had just gotten in her uber.

“she can’t possibly be thinking that right? she just made it to the wnba!” paige said also getting worried now

“p, she’s been injured so much, i really am thinking she’s not gonna go through the process again. at least that’s what she’s making it seem like right now. i-i don’t know how to help her, i’ve never seen her like this before, like this isn’t regular depression.”

it’s quiet on the other line, paige trying to wrap her brain around that info and also try to find a way to fix it. “is she listening to you at all? would she listen if i talked to her?”

“probably not, she’s not listening to me at all. everytime i talk to her to try and get her out of the room, she just turns to look out the window.” azzi sighs out

paige just groans into the phone “FUCK,” paige yells out after a few moments of silence “why’d this have to happen? she’s been through enough.” paige says rubbing her hand down her face in a stressed manner - not that azzi could see or anything

paige had just gotten to azzi’s dormitory, letting herself in as azzi said she left it unlocked for paige.

“hey” paige says walking into the main room, seeing azzi, morgan, and ice on the couch watching a movie. azzi gets up from the couch immediately and runs over to paige hugging her

“hi” azzi mumbles into paige’s neck, morgan and ice get off the couch to hug paige once azzi pulls away, and then paige looks at azzi,

“she’s still in my bedroom” azzi answers the silent question, paige nodded before making her way to azzi’s room.

she doesn’t bother knocking, just opened the door, walked in, and shut and locked the door so they could have a minute.

paige got on the bed behind blakely, wrapping her arms around blake’s abdomen, and putting her head in between blake’s neck and shoulder,

“hi baby, how are you doing?” paige asked, giving small pecks on blake’s neck and cheek.

blakely doesn’t respond, doesn’t even acknowledge that paige is there, just keeps looking out the window. keeps watching the college kids walk without crutches, and assistance from their friends. keeps watching the college kids do what she wishes she could do right now.

“baby please talk to me,” paige says sadly “or azzi. we’re both worried about you rosie.”

“nothing to be worried about.” blakely grumbles out, her voice raspy from not talking for however long. “yes there is mama, when was the last time you left this room? for your surgery? that was 3 weeks ago. you should have already started rehab by now, you could have been walking without crutches by now too.”

blakely just tries to push paige off her before turning her upper body some more. “i want to be left alone.” blakely says still people watching, “i don’t care. i’m not leaving this room, and i’m not letting you push me or azzi away. we have been through this injury before, just let us help you.”

“there’s nothing to help, leave me alone.” paige can tell blakely’s getting mad and annoyed, but she doesn’t want to leave blake by herself. “…are you thinking of quitting?” paige rasps out kinda scared for the answer, but already feeling like she knows

“why would i come back?,” blakely says angrily, turning to look at paige “so i can go tear my acl again? or get some different injury that has just as long of a recovery time? no thanks.” blakely turns her head back to the window, while it feels like paige just got punched in the gut.

“what happened to you never giving up on anything? you’re just gonna end your basketball career just like that? you can still play rosie, you just need to get better first.” paige reply’s feeling sad for blakely, feeling hurt for blakely, wishing this never happened to blakely.

“well things change, people change.”

paige left the room shortly after that, the conversation going absolutely nowhere.

when she left the room and went back into the living room, she could see azzi, ice, and morgan, sitting on the couch waiting “she’s not playing basketball anymore,” paige rasps out, making all the girls look at each other is disbelief

“wha- but-“ they all start before paige cuts in “she said there’s no point in coming back when she’s just gonna get injured again.”

• Castor was pansexual while Pollux is on the aro spec (demiromantic). Whenever Castor had a crush, Pollux would insist his twin could do better, or that they were "okay."

• Holly and Laurel compete in everything and if they ever end up crushing on the same person, it will also be a competition. Whoever can give them the best flowers, best date, etc. Essentially who can win the person's heart.

• If they crush on different people, the competition changes to who took their partner out on a better date.

• Nyssa is sapphic or unlabeled, probably just content with her work though she can point out a cute girl when she sees one.

• Chris Rodriguez is a bisexual, ambiamorous icon. (Ambiamorous is having more than 1 partner only if the person you're dating is okay with it. You don't mind not having more than one partner.)

• ^ Chris, Beckendorf, Silena, & Clarisse were definitely a polycule and when Silena and Beckendorf died, Chris & Clarisse got a tattoo with all 4 of their initials inside of a heart on their chests. (Clarisse won't ever say anything about it or admit to it.)

• Everyone thinks that because Butch is an Iris kid, he has to be LGBTQ+, but in reality he is just their biggest ally. He thinks the LGBTQ+ campers are extremely brave and admires them.

• But there's also trans Butch which I've started to like a lot

• Most campers think Connor is bisexual, but he's actually demi. He just likes to confuse them even more because he only hangs up the MLM flag.

• Connor tried to ask Malcolm out through a prank, because that's how Travis asked Katie out and it worked for them.

• Travis and Katie are Bi4Bi

• Clovis isn't labeled, so many (young) campers just think he's hetero. He's not awake long enough to care.

• Luke always had his arm wrapped around Lee's waist or shoulder because Lee had so many people crushing on him due to his nurturing nature.

• Luke's betrayal was like a punch to the gut to Lee because the boy didn't leave anything for him. Not a note, goodbye, nothing.

• Lee saw Luke one final time before his death in BotL. It was right before SoM.

• For the first time in years, Lee had gone home for the school year, and Luke showed up outside his school. Lee punched him in the face before hugging him. It was an entire show for the courtyard. They spent the day enjoying each other's company. At the end of it, Luke told him everything he planned on doing, and said when Kronos rose, he'd come back for Lee.

• When Luke entered Elysium, Lee refused to talk to him at all. So many of his younger siblings had entered and he was rightfully upset.

• It took them 8 months before they could even be in the same room, but Luke had changed for the better and if it wasn't doing things to Lee's unbeating heart.

• Lee fell first this time, or maybe he had never really stopped falling, and asked Luke out, asked for a second chance for them.

• Turns out, second chances are worth it sometimes. Michael's jaw dropped when he saw and ranted endlessly, but Lee was happy that Luke had changed in the end.

Prob my fav fic in the fandom lololol. HUGE RECCOMMEND. It's about Johnny who gets roped into spending the holiday Christmas season with his , for the most part, very not so nice family, and Simon accompanies him. So much stuff happens in this fic and it's such a great character exploration of Simon and Johnny independently, but also as a couple, and just so much stuff happens in it lol again, HUGE RECOMMEND!!!

We'll make Death Proud to Take us - Literal_Satan

Fic where, it starts off really sweet where Simon goes to Scotland with Johnny to spend Christmas with him and his family, but things take a drastic turn when Soap's brother, a police officer/detective, gets a little too curious about mysterious Simon, and the story spirals from there. All the guys end up on this crazy goose chase tracking down some of the people who were involved in Roba's brainwashing operations. The fic gets v dark at times and deals with some very heavy trauma so beware, but it's SO. GOOD.

Dream a Little Dream - Angelicasdean

Again, one of my total fav fics in the fandom!! AU where Simon leaves the army to raise his nephew Joseph, who's the sole survivor of the Riley family massacre, and Johnny is one of the daycare teachers at the daycare where Simon takes Jo 🥺🥺👍👍

Pretend to love me like I do - FetteEule

Really cute fic of Simon who accompanied Johnny to Scotland for his sister's wedding, under the ruse they are dating. They are v much pining but not there yet. Features lots of really cute domestic moments and Simon being really sweet to Johnny's kid nephew 😭🧡

Something important - Anonymous

One of the fics that has me totally brainrotted rn. It's about Simon's who's been de-aged to 6 years old, and Price, Gaz and Soap all taking care of him and trying to figure out how he got turned, and how to turn him back! They all get tested on their abilities to care for a child, and unwillingly learn a lot of details about Simon's childhood they never knew. This summary doesn't do it justice tho, so I'd just recommend checking it out! Beware tho again, there is some dark childhood trauma stuff but there are warnings at the start of each chapter that contains references to it.

Seasons - StinglessWasp

In this fic every chapter is set during a different season and tells a unique sort of story/mission/interaction Soap and Ghost have. Definitely some v good angst&hurt/comfort stuffs too. Starts off pre-relationship, and explores their characters a lot! It's just really good HUGE reccommend lol.

What the Eyes Don't see - WhiplashRogue

One of my FAVESSSS! So the premise is like, Soap can actually see ghosts ever since he was a child (which most other people can't see and also don't believe in), and Ghost has 2 spirits attached to him that follow him around(Joseph, and Roach). The fic starts off pre relationship, and it mostly about Soap trying to learn more about these two spirits and discovering more about Ghost's past.

All that's said in the Low Light - Headlocket

Probably one of the most emotional I've ever read LMFAO. It's about Johnny, who receives a back & knee injury bad enough he gets discharged from the army, and is back in Scotland living with his parents as he recovers. He and Ghost lost contact a bit since the accident, and it's sort of a story of them reconnecting. This description doesn't do it justice, just read it, but it will emotionally destroy you lol

Time Loops Suck (series) - Enter_fand0m_reference00

The first installment of the fic takes the idea that Soap is stuck in a time loop during the alone mission! And all the optional dialogues and interactions in thE alone mission are separate attempts of his trying to survive the loops and rendez vous with Ghost. It's just sooo good!! And then there's a follow up fic where it deals with the mental aftermath of the loops and Ghost comforting soap through it, then there's 2 other installments of Simon who instead goes through a time loop! They are such great character explorations in how both Soap and Ghost experience the loops, and I whooleee heartedly reccommend.

Yellow Card - SkerryB

Soccer au fic!! It's so good! Simon is the captain of a soccer team Soap is drafted to as their new goalie. Simon has had a history with Soap before though, that he was the only goalie Simon could never score on! So that's how it starts, and it's just so good from there!! Simon's family are also alive in the fic and his nephew is adorable.

You swept me off my feet - @ghoulishhone

Ghost is down bad for strong Soap, the fic xD This was a fic Ghoulishone and I were paired together to work on for the Ghostsoap server reverse bang! They wrote the fic and I made some accompanying art. Just a cute fic of Soap having to pick up Ghost after he gets injured and some other shenanigans that ensues:)

SUCH A CUTE FIC!! The majority of the fic is these letter/pen pal exchanges between Ghost, and Soap's young niece Chloe...it's just. So. Good. And was written by a friend of mine too! BIG RECCOMMEND.

Give me Hope and Let me Down - MechanicalBones

Some of the best Ghost whump I read lolll. Ghost is captured by some people with ties to Roba and tortured. Meanwhile Soap is on his way to rescue him, and eventually he does, and there's a lot of hurt and comfort. It's also a getting together fic. 🥺

Unspoken Love - Hammy101

( Super amazing oneshot. I feel I can't do this fic justice with any summary. Just read it. 🥺 It has decent Ghost whump AND domestic off duty cute ghost soap angsty stuff it's just one of my faves ever!!!!)

Except You, You can Stay - Iravaid

Really realistic, believable portrayal and expansion upon a lot of the key events that happen in the Ghost comics. From his childhood, to the mental aftermath of Roba, his family dying...it's heavy but really really good. And has a happier hopeful ending that's Ghost/Soap 🥺

Hat Trick of the Heart and the sequel Family, Gotta Love em - Librarian_FanFicFan

Absolutely am obsessed with these fics!!! It's an AU about Ghost who is recently discharged from the military due to injury, and on a flight back to London where he is seated next to Soap, a famous footballer/soccer player. Ghost doesn't know who he is tho, but they hit it off and exchange numbers. The second installment features Simon's family!!! And Tommy being dramatic and shocked over the fact his brother got the number of this famous sports player... SUPER CUTE IF YOU LIKE RILEY FAMILY STUFF.

As for my fav CoD authors I wholeheartedly recommend anything by:

RedClegane, m3rrywe4ther, Hammy101, TheEdwardianOne, Iravaid, and so many authors but I can't list them all ahaha...but hopefully this is a good start!

I actually kinda like how Four didn't learn much from IGBP. How are you supposed to learn from something when it hurts so much to think about? And the perfectionism is never going away, he's a creator, like you said, he simply cares too much about making people happy and making stuff he's proud of to ever settle

The main thing he DID learn is that his friends will always be there for him, even if he's not perfect. But it's easy to feel like friends who are kind enough to stay no matter what deserve perfection anyway, like they shouldn't have to settle. And besides, his in-universe audience has been established to be very... fickle. And that is sorta his livelihood as well. And the balance of the universe depends on him and

and anyway people learn best through positive reinforcement, not getting possessed by The Horrors. What he caused in IGBP probably just feels like another way he's "not enough" that he needs to make up for. With more perfectionism. Obviously. Like him being...off in Meme Factory ended up being him essentially being perfectionistic about his plan to protect his friends.

and frankly as an ex "gifted kid" myself... Four is very adjacent to that in the way his time at meme school is discussed and the way he reacts to not meeting his own expectations for himself. (Or maybe I'm just projecting)

Now, personally, my mom has been drilling "don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good" and "done is better than perfect" into my head since I was diagnosed with ""gifted"" in second grade and I have been made very aware that no one is abandoning me over imperfections but it's still hard to get away from the "IF I CANT MAKE SOMETHING IM PROUD OF THAT MAKES SOMEONE GO 'whoa :0' WHATS EVEN THE POINT" line of thinking. so Four is. Relatable

RIGHT! 4 is very complex and I love how the Team didn't go with "he learned absolutely everything from that and it's all okie-dokie 👍" route bc really, it's not as simple as that.

I totally get you with the whole "gifted" child thing, I was kinda like that myself. Not exactly, having extreme expectations from others, but I'm learning how to deal with my own perfectionistic side. It just makes 4 a relatable character and kinda healing to know that we are enough in our own right. There isn't anything we can do to erase these "extreme" traits; it's simply how we handle them, ideally in a healthy way.

Honestly, with how Karen's arc went and the Team is willing to do character exploration, I do hope they continue to do more with that.....and then make IGBP 2—

Warning: this will use giant having a human pet concept, and a bit of fearplay

A pet, that’s what I am. Born into a world that was too big for me- into a life where I was nothing, but an animal, meant to be used as a toy, a companion, or whatever my owner wanted me to be. Even still, I had hope. I was raised alongside those who believed giants to be evil, but, seeing so many different types of giants walk into the pet store, adults, teenagers, kids, I knew- no, I hoped they were like us. Human. Unfortunately, it was all for naught.

I was given as a gift to a giant my age- Jacob was his name. He barely paid me any mind. He did his thing, and I did mine. He wasn’t cruel or anything, just…quiet. 

I was seated on his desk, fumbling with an old post-it note, occasionally looking up, watching as he typed away on the computer.

I looked back as I heard the creak of the chair, the lack of the clicking keyboard. He slumped back against the chair. As I was just about to look away, our eyes locked. 

Without warning, I was suddenly lifted several feet into the air, my torso pinched between his thumb and forefinger. I had to fight the urge to squirm, especially when I slowly being lifted towards his face, until I was at eye-level with him. 

His blank stare bore into me. I was airborne, flying and freeing falling within seconds, before landing on something warm…squishy…his hand. I didn’t even have a chance to catch my breath as I was once again tossed. My stomach did flips, and once I landed back on the skin, I squeeze my eyes shut. Upon landing on the third time, I tightly grasped on his point finger, my entire body being pressed against it, eyes squeezed shut. 

“Please…no more.”

Jacob never really cared about humans, or any of his fellow giants for that matter. It’s not that he was apathetic, more so that he didn’t like people. So when he was gifted a human only a few days prior, he was very clueless on what step to take next. She was relatively quiet, as was he. As usual, while he did his homework, she did her own thing, folding and unfolding a post-it note, seemingly lost in thought. 

He hadn’t know what had came over him, but once he was finished with his homework, he became bored, and what was the first thing he saw? The little human. Without thinking, something he seemed to do much of lately, he pinched her between his thumb and forefinger and brought her up to his face. 

He could feel her writhe within his grip, every tiny movement, her warmth, he could feel at all, but at the time he wasn’t too preoccupied with those thoughts. That being said, he threw her into the air, easily catching her. He had repeated this two more times, head bopping up and down as she rose and fell. 

Once she landed the third time, something different happened. She clutched onto his pointer finger, surprisingly tightly for someone of her statue. Then, she whispered something.

“Please…no more.” He could feel her tiny puffs of air on his finger, her rapid heartbeat. When he moved the finger ever so slightly, she held on tighter. 

She was trembling. 

“Hey…” he whispered. God, she truly looked so…small right now. “I’m not going to throw you.” He tried again. Even with his words, he couldn’t help the small smile that began to form on his lips. He knew finding something like her paralyzing fear of him to be cute was fucked, but he couldn’t help himself. Even still, he continued the gentle approach. 

He began to use his free hand to gently play with her hair, limiting himself to only his pinkie. She shivered underneath every little touch, but also ever so slightly loosened her grip as the minutes passed. 

Eventually, once her grip loosened enough, he brought his hand over to the desk and tilted it, grimacing only after he caused her to roll harshly only it.

“Sorry.” He mumbled. He should have never been given a pet.

Soap hates that Price is right. Hates that he almost always is, about these kinds of things.

He hates that Price won’t just accept his request to transfer and let him move on from this, and never have to think about what he did ever again.

(Though, who is Soap kidding? He’ll feel guilt for the remainder of his immortal existence for what he’d done.)

But unfortunately, as it stands, he has no choice but to confront the elephant in the room.

For Soap, it’s easy to find Ghost. He knows of the lieutenant’s favourite haunts, knows where he goes to be alone.

And it had never been thanks to the vampirism that he knew of them.

This time, Ghost has chosen to have himself a cigarette in a hidden area on the roof, a place completely out of sight unless one knew where to look for the thin wisp of smoke unfurling into the air. Soap moves silently toward him, slow and hesitant and almost entirely unwilling until they’re standing side by side, suffocating in the thick weight of everything to be said. To be discussed.

Ghost never startles, whenever Soap appears beside him. Hardly ever acknowledges him first, either. It’s the vague sense of a familiar routine that lends Soap just enough confidence to speak.

“I…” Soap takes a deep breath, steeling himself in place. He spares Ghost a bare enough glance to see the way his eyes are blank, distant, glazed over. “I wanted to… apologize.”

Ghost takes a slow, considerate drag, breathing out as he flicks what remains of the cigarette on the ground, stamping it beneath his boot. He doesn’t say anything for a long time.

Soap shifts anxiously between his feet.

“Don’t,” Ghost finally says, voice flat. “An apology isn’t getting anyone anywhere.”

Soap wants to huff. Wants to tell Ghost to not make this any more difficult than it already has been, wants to tell him not to make Soap feel any more shame than he can bear.

Instead, he rakes a nervous hand over his scalp.

“Then what—“ Soap wets his lips, exhaling shakily. He makes the mistake of looking at Ghost again, only to spot the violent marks left behind in his neck from fangs that couldn’t tell enemy from ally. “Then what will fix this? I… I want to fix this. Fix… us.”

Ghost’s gaze shifts to his, then. His eyes, darker than ever, burn with an intensity that Soap has never seen anyone else able to muster.

“There’s nothing to fix, Soap,” Ghost says through grit teeth. “You weren’t—I know you never meant to.”

“But I still did.”

Ghost stares at him. His jaw clenches and unclenches, and some distant voice in Soap’s head wonders if he’s forgotten his balaclava is rolled up past his nose.

“Doesn’t matter whether you did or didn’t, Johnny.” His eyes are piercing, penetrating even the deepest parts of Soap’s soul. His voice is low, gravelly—borderline broken. “Still here, ain’t I?”

Soap looks to the ground, suddenly finding more interest in scuffing his boot against the concrete. “I’m putting in for a transfer,” he confesses quietly.

Ghost doesn’t need to know that he’s already tried.

Soap can sense his frown, his disbelief, even before hearing it in his pained, breathless, “What?”

Soap curls his hands into tight fists, digging crescents into the flesh of his palms. He glares intently at the ground like it could offer him up some kind of answers.

“Well, obviously, I—“ Soap pauses, shakes his head, and wills himself to start again. “I dinnae want to force you to have to work with someone you cannae even trust not to kill you.”

In his periphery, Soap sees Ghost’s frown deepen. “What are you on about, Soap?”

Soap feels pathetic. Incapable. He feels like a horrible person. “If Price and Gaz weren’t there—“

“Well, they were,” Ghost argues. “There’s no time for ifs in our line of work, Johnny. You were hung out to dry, and I never thought for a second to be more careful when I finally found you because I was too caught up in the fact that you were still alive.”

The admission hangs heavy between them. Everything unsaid but still there makes it all the more terrifying.

“You could have died, Simon,” Soap whispers. He doesn’t trust his voice not to waver, speaking any louder.

Ghost’s hands are suddenly on Soap’s face, human warmth bleeding into the cold of the undead. Soap’s are are wide with shock. Ghost’s are glassy with the threat of frustrated tears.

“But I didn’t,” he murmurs. Soap can’t help but lean into the roughness of calloused fingers pressing into his skin. “I didn’t. And I’d have found a way to forgive you even if I had.”

Ghost’s chin quivers. Soap isn’t sure he’s ever seen him so… so—

“I’ll admit, I—“ Ghost’s voice has grown raspier, exhausted by emotion, “I was afraid of you, for a long while. Of what you are.”

Soap does his best to offer a smile, however watery. “You wouldn’t be the first.”

Ghost says nothing, only massaging careful circles into the high points of Soap’s cheeks.

Soap sighs, finally tearing his gaze away from Ghost.

“Price wasn’t going to let me transfer, anyway,” Soap admits. “Not without talking to you, first.”

Ghost’s lips quirk upward, his grin endearingly crooked.

“Someone has to be your impulse control.”

“Yeah, well.” Soap rolls his eyes. “Old man’s gonna be all smug, now.”

Ghost laughs quietly, a huff of air through his nose more than anything. “Better than losing you,” he says. “Gaz would miss you.”

Soap tilts his head, his own smile growing wider. “No one else?”

Ghost shakes his head mock-solemnly, playfully patting Soap’s face for good measure. “No one else, Johnny.”

The weight on Soap’s shoulders finally feels lighter, after days of berating himself and bending to the whim of a gnawing shame. There’s still guilt, nestled in his mind, and he knows it’ll stick around for a while yet—but now again on good terms with Ghost, Soap thinks it should be easy to overcome, in time.

Soap’s hands find Ghost’s wrists, gently prying him away from his face to intertwine their fingers. He’s more than glad to finally have this.

Finally have Ghost.

His smile becomes something shyer, just for a moment, as he declares with a profound decisiveness, “I guess I’ll stick around then.”

YUE QINGYUAN:

SEXUALITY HC — gay but his ass is not thinking abt that ❌ he's never had any good sexual exchanges - let alone romantic relationships - with anyone, so he's just sort of set it aside as irrelevant to his life & not for him, nor is he really willing to try for something genuine in this regard down the line (unless he's prompted to by someone else, though even then he'd feel much pressure)

he values non-romantic, non-sexual relationships much higher than all else because that's not something that is bought 👍 (well, not usually; he knows people are drawn to rich/powerful, but at least with all the peak lords, there's some comfort in that they're generally equals in power, so he can relax a little...)

GENDER HC — trans man. to meee :3 i imagine the realization for him started fairly young... with him trying to emulate the caretaking role of some of the older slaves, that's where he first learned the difference of the cruel, powerful men who were handling their bunch vs. the 'men' (older teenagers, but. to younger kids it's very easy to see them as practically adults) who were gentle and caring, but still strong. and so, that's what he strove to be. he first insisted to the younger ones to call him 'ge' in public to protect him from people who'd be looking for an easy catch, but as time went on it became something he genuinely personally preferred...

that said, i doubt that yqy would ever have physically transitioned even if he didn't go through the... entirety of ling xi caves + everything the previous sect leader did. guy who's normal about having his autonomy taken away by anything at all and did not mildly freak out over puberty in the first place 👍 even with him being intersex & that pitching his voice lower + (in hand with malnourishment) keeping physical changes minimal, it was still. he'd rather at least have the illusion he's in control of what happens with his body.

and besides, with him being the Fucking Sect Leader of Cang Qiong Mountain, no one's really got any place to make 'honest slip-ups' and mistake him for anything but a man even if he couldn't pass.

in my mind's eye, pidw's at that point where transphobia/intersexism would be inane (sex changing plants everywhere), but misogyny clearly still exists (albeit less intensely than the circumstances to make xian shu), so gender is still tied to presentation and people are looked down upon for choosing femininity. but yqy's rank obviously insists that there is no room for microaggressions unless you want an entire mountain to smite you lmao

SHIP W YQY — everyone clap and cheer for mqf/yqy YAYYY yippiee! they've known each other for half their lives & mqf's already set at a point where they inherently carry more of yqy's trust than the rest of the sect (has yqy's life in their hands) but. gestures. it's a welcome burden, and all that! even if yqy initially avoids everything relating to it + constantly downplays all that's happening (much to mqf's chagrin lmao)

yqy has clear apprehensions when it comes to entrusting his body to yet another person, especially as mqf used to be very blunt and impersonable. but... they begin making more of an effort to show compassionate bedside manner for his sake. yqy's a little unnerved at first because the tension behind it betrays that it is a mask, but the fact they're trying at all is a method to show how they care -- and it just requires slight adjustment, so it's more natural for mqf. and yqy's relieved to see that the care held for him exists, it's just. shown unconventionally. and this makes yqy feel much more at ease, feeling trusted & that frankness other people are capable of has always been something he appreciates and has never been allowed in his life... unless he is around these people. they inevitably become close to him.

anyway. with these two, i think even if they got romantic with it, nothing would change much. mqf's probably the only person that has held yqy in these past several years, so they're accustomed to each other's touch; maybe qingyuan would make more of an active effort (touchstarved), but neither are very typically-romantic. for the most part there'd be a comfortable distance & trust that they can just call upon one another if need be. their relationship already exists on an oath, and neither of them intend to break it.

BROTP W YQY — ahem. i like thinking abt the progression of xuan su & yue qi... in xuan su's eyes, that initial resentment turned pity then begrudging respect to genuine fondness. even in the present, it is prideful and considers itself the crux of yqy's power, but it now feels confident in saying that - of recent generations - there is no other who it could've asked for as its wielder. this could never be an ideal fate for a spiritual sword, but it is certainly a unique one. xuan su has never felt so... alive.

for yue qi, there was reciprocal resentment that it, like the peak lords who demanded he come here to prove himself, denied him permission to return to shen jiu, but the longer they stayed in the ling xi caves, he eventually felt xuan su's anger fade, and his own then fell into guilt for dragging it into his own mistakes. that feeling that there is nothing he's ever done right, that he hasn't destroyed just by his own foolishness -- compounded when he discovers the fate he left shen jiu to. but yue qi perseveres, and it was this resilience which caught xuan su's eye and convinced it to fully help yue qi along during the fight with tianlang jun. it was a great surprise to realize he'd finally earned its acceptance and, what he hadn't realized he was missing, its protection.

there's also a whole thing here i could get into with the hc of xuan su being set to protect yqy when he's unconscious / heavily dissociated through their unique spiritual connection but 1) i am shy and 2) this is SO LONG ALREADY? O_O apolocheese...

NOTP W YQY — syqq :[ i explode ok

RANDOM HC — yue qingyuan had no strong feelings either way toward shang qinghua until the man suggested curry for one of the events and then yqy was neutral-leaning-fond with him. which is the most sqh could ever ask for. yqy loves loves loves spicy things okay, he just doesn't often get a chance to... eat. in general. and when he does, he doesn't usually go for anything extravagant... only letting himself be practical kills the soul though.

GENERAL OPINION — oh, i don't know. i like him a normal amount.

downtowns actually my first ever slugcat oc so hes old AS FUCK. Heres super old art of him & overheat (orange one) 👇👇

to talk abt him i need to talk abt where he lives first so heres an also old as fuck map of the nest 👇👇 rain world spoilers below

the nest is a region inspired by that official art on the right cuz i was really sad there werent any regions ingame like it. it was originally a REALLY old industrial district that grew obsolete after the whole void fluid thing turned whatever they were making all useless. they just decided to build an iterator on top and move everyone still living there to the city on top of it 👍 problem solved. Eventually it also got reclaimed by nature and now the nest is full of bioluminescent overgrown plants and scary shit whos probably alive. The iterator (unfinished painting) specialized in bioengineering and didnt gaf abt the stuff under her so she just dumped all her trash there . that may or may not have helped the nest speedrun its evolution

a long time ago a colony of slugcats settled there and eventually evolved into the kind of freaks downtown & his family are: theyre bigger, can climb and run on all fours and mainly eat meat. Though since theyre not that close to the bottom of the food chain anymore they don't live in colonies anymore and each do their own thing.

So now downtown. Hes a normal guy who just happened to have wandered too close to unfinished painting's leg while it was, by pure luck, being watched by an overseer. though paintings whole thing is producing purposed organisms she never cared about them, never even spared a second to look at them. but life after the mass ascension was SO boring she decided to turn her many overseer eyes towards the ground, watching the ants. We're the ants. And she realized these ants are actually really fun. So when she saw downtown so close to her leg she thought it would be even more fun if she lured him into her chamber

and that's what she did 👍 and he got the mark of communication and left really confused. and came back. and left again. and came back again. eventually he realized he was now Smarter than everyone else so there was like. no way hed be able to just go back to living his old idgaf life, so he started to hang around painting more and slowly they became friends. dont get me wrong downtown IS smart he just doesnt gaf abt most of the things painting says

eventually he ends up bringing his younger siblings to meet her too

he cant really understand that the whole superstructure is her so to him shes just the puppet. since she always looks the same to him he also thinks she SUCKS at being a parasite so sometimes he brings her food

downtown didnt really do anything crazy in his lifetime but he did mellow painting out and made her appreciate the critters living under her. she also kept sending a bunch of photos of him to the local iterators discord server and that convinced the senior (promise of incomprehensible harmony) to make a purposed organism based off of him so if downtown didnt befriend painting witness and their clone superhell wouldn't exist

painting once said it would be nice if his descendants also visited her and downtown was like well. SOMEONE needs to take care of this parasite. so he had much sex for the cause. though i dont have designs for all his kids yet but i only have this thing 👇
