Finished watching the residence on Netflix the other day and all I got to say is I need an entire Cordelia Cupp tv series with each season being it's own mystery thank you.
Cordelia is such a fun and entertaining main character, probably the best I've seen in a long while. Each line and every second of screen time oozes personality. No small thanks to her actress Uzo Aduba.
Some reviews I've seen claimed that the show was too long or that it should've been a movie, while I respect their opinion I also think it's wrong and stupid. This is not a case of "Netflix why did you make this documentary a mini series when it clearly wasn't meant to be".
I like the time we get with each of the characters. Each episode centered mainly on a suspect, or "person of interest" as Cordelia Cupp would say. And the time spent on the cast fleshes them out in a way that they no longer feel like pieces on a clue board. During the finale, I was on the edge of my seat, not just hoping for the answer, but hoping that the answer wasn't a set of two characters I desperately wanted to have a happy ending. And my feeling for them was mostly thanks to one scene, a scene that probably would've been cut if this was a movie.
Anyway, if you are interested in murder mysteries, great characters, even greater acting, and a bird loving female detective then check out the Residence on Netflix.

things i liked about The Residence on Netflix:
Cordelia Cupp
they showed that eyewitness testimonies are generally pretty unreliable and you have to take them with a grain of salt
just because there is evidence of someone doing something suspicious does not mean they are the murderer or a suspect (ex. minor spoiler: just because a man is wearing the dead person’s shirt doesn’t mean that he’s the murderer it literally just means that he’s wearing the dead guy’s shirt and that alone is not evidence that he murdered him)
Detective Cordelia Cupp
the love story between Elsyie and Bruce
the young boy whose special interest is the White House, which meant that he was able to help on the case
Cordelia! Cupp!
Sheila! the fanboy Secret Service Agent! pretty much all of the staff
Kylie Minogue
Detective Cupp
Things I didn’t like about The Residence:
they didn’t reveal in the last episode that Hugh Jackman actually was there and had been playing himself the whole time
that there were (SPOILERS!!) secret entrances and a candlestick, and there were zero Clue references :( like not even in the episode titles

I am living for the resurgence of the murder mystery genre, I was game for the remakes of the classic Poirot films with Kenneth Branagh, I was charmed by Only Murders in the Building and I'm in love with Rian Johnson's work and by that I mean both the incredibly popular Knives Out franchise and the highly underviewed Poker Face series featuring Natasha Lyonnes as a Columbo-esque character I'm currently in love with.
Speaking of Lyonnes this rant is about The Residence! The connection being that The Residence stars Uzo Aduba who also featured in Orange is the New Black alongside Lyonnes. And God am I glad these actresses are getting fantastic roles like this because they deserve them. Cordelia Cupp is brilliantly weird and she pulls off the ego of the Detective type without making the character an asshole. She's really damn likeable and funny. This show is in general. I loved it. Binged it over the weekend and now I've finished all I want is another season. The writing was both hilarious, quirky and at some points damn touching! I was absorbed in a romance briefly brought up for about 10 minutes in one episode, absorbed! I also felt really genuinely sad abou the murder victims death through out but especially near the end of the series. The more I saw of him the more I felt really reaally bad for the guy. That's hella impressive for a show to do for a character we normally don't get that much emotionality from.
The mystery itself was great fun, lot's of twists and turns but cleverly layered upon each episode. It's also definitely a twist you can unravel near the end, which is good! Personally I got it narrowed right down in episode 6 and episode 7 basically confirmed my theory and that makes for a very satisfying season finale when it all comes together. My ADHD brain very much enjoys a mystery series because they're quite fast paced and good at relaying previous knowledge we need to know.
Although Uzo Aduba definitely made a fantastic series lead this show was full of fab performance's. I can't even begin to name them all but the character's that made me laugh the most were Ken Marino as the President's asshole advisor, Mary Wiseman as a passionate chef from "Portland". But my fave was Jason Lee as the President's useless brother Tripp. My God no spoiler but there is a scene in episode 8 featuring him and a George McCutcheon (The Whitehouse has three of them apparently) that literally had my laughing so hard.
Basically please watch this show I want more Murder Mysteries and in particular another season featuring my now third favourite Detective Cordelia Cupp! (Benoit's 2nd Charlie Cale is 1st even though she literally isn't even a detective🤣🤣)

An Umbrella Academy Murder Mystery
Tumblr media
A/N: I don't know if anyone is still interested in this story but contrary to all indications (regular updates) I am still writing it anyway because, well, delusion. I've not given up on it, I just had a baby and babies are - and this is true - very distracting. If you're happy to see my username on your timeline, clap your hands (leave me a comment) and I'll try my best to update again before the child starts school in 2030.

Chapter 30: Sake
Chapter summary: With time running out to prove his innocence, Klaus seeks to confront his prime suspect. But he’s not ready for what happens next.
Chapter snippet:
AS HE finds the entrance to the passage, Klaus’s feet stop dead.
“Are we sure this is a good idea?”
“What do you mean?” asks Ben.
“I mean we’re walking down a rapey back alley to go meet a potential murderer, Ben. Call me a Nervous Nancy, but it feels like a bad plan.”
Ben looks down the alley and then back at Klaus, as if none of these details had really occurred to him before now. The narrow passage is lit only by a single pale bulb above the kitchen door, about halfway down. The wet cobbles are scattered with upturned crates and mouldy cardboard boxes, left out in the elements to rot. Dumpsters line the walls, sheltering a family of stray cats that slides between them like sultry nightclub patrons.
Ben turns back to Klaus. “You’ll be fine, come on.”
Klaus remains frozen to one spot.
“Look, how do we even know this is the guy, huh? I mean, what do we have to go on? A weird sculpture and a hunch?”
“It’s gotta be him, Klaus,” says Ben. “Think about it: Gary was an asshole. He was sleeping with Jaz’s fiancée, he was probably planning to blackmail her, and Detective Wesson said-”
“Ugh, can we not talk about her, please? She makes my sphincter twitch.”
“Detective Wesson said Jaz owed Gary money. Plus there’s the whole Janice connection. The two of them probably planned it all along.”
Klaus frowns. Is that possible? Could Janice really have set this up somehow? Could Jaz have harboured such a grudge against his friend that he would sneak into his room, stand over his sleeping body and cut his throat in the night? Jaz who had poured shots at the party and shared bitchy gossip over breakfast the next morning? Jaz with his limited edition Jordans and his manicured nails and his tiny twisted dreadlocks?
“Something just isn’t adding up and I can’t put my finger on it,” says Klaus.
“Well, this is the only way you’re gonna get answers. Just stop being a colossal wuss and get down there.”
Klaus’s feet are still rooted firmly to the ground.
“I-I don’t think so. Let’s just go back to the party before-”
“No!” Ben throws his whole ethereal form in front of Klaus. “It’s time to grow some balls.”
“I have balls, Ben,” says Klaus, his voice rising. “And there’s a bad feeling in them!”
“Well, I told you to see a doctor about that.” Ben shifts into the light of the moon so he can meet Klaus’ eyes. “Look, I know you’re scared, but if you don’t do this now you’ll never find out the truth. Diego will lose his job, you’ll have to go on the run. This is the only way, Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and take a risk.”
“That’s easy for you to say, you’re already dead!”
“Just do it,” Ben hisses.

Absolutely obsessed with the residence.
Uzo Aduba is delivering an iconic performance. And the chemistry between Cupp and Park is also so fucking good. Props to Randall Park as well!

YOU au Hanma shuji x reader
Tumblr media
“Hanma can you open the door for me please” a voice echoed through his head. It sounded like a soft melody in the distance. Something far off that he couldn't quite reach, so close yet so far.
“Hanma help me please. I'm holding the baby, I can't do both at once” your voice whispered from behind the door. Rocking the infant back and forth.
“Hanma help me please im holding the body, I cant do both at once” you had said simultaneously. While both versions of you holding a body and a child flew through his head. But it finally landed on just one. One that he had not expected.
“Hanma, are you deaf or something get the door Im holding the damn baby” you finally snapped at him. Knocking the man out of his state of unawareness. His thoughts still circling through his head, mixed between last night and now.
“Okay, okay stop your bitching. I'm coming woman.” hanma growled as he walked over towards the big white door that he hated. In the big fucking window like house that he hated even more, in the quietest most boring neighborhood in the whole city that he hated more than that. Hamna hated everything about his new life with you. From the supermarket that didn't sell the type of coffee that he liked, down to the dumb neighbors who would always comment. when they heard you two even seem to be rasing your voices at each other. But like the good loving husband he was he would just put up with it. No matter what the draw back was and you were one of those. You were a draw back, everything that you did was a draw back. When he opened the white door he didn't just open it for you and your child he opened it for himself too. So that he could see the outside world far away from his trapped life. In a home that he hated, in the one part of town that he hated even more. And yes finally surrounded by people that he hated the most.
“Hanma hurry grab her feet” you screamed with the voice of a whisper more afraid of waking the baby then getting caught with a body. You were and still are a draw back, and it always came down to situations like this. When you go off the rails and do stupid things, going off a very small claim that he had cheated on you. With the mail woman of all people. Cliche much one would think but you though it was very much real.
“Im grabbing her legs but could you be more quieter” hanma had yelled back at you with his brows furrowed very hard. Showing the sweat that was gliding off of his almost pail face. Everything could end here and now just by one person spotting them. One person waking up at fucking 2:20 in the morning. To see the atrocity you both have now committed.
He took over now at this point, Hanma was no stranger to violence. No stranger to hiding bodies and covering up crimes. You had married a criminal after all. But you were inexperienced, so bad that the action that was committed a mere few hours ago. Had already incriminated you both, even If you hadn't gotten caught yet. The woman fell limply into the back of the car as hanma tried to slam the trunk as quietly as possible.
He paid no care to the fact that his wife was running back into the house. Grabbing his son and a fully packed diaper bag. Jumping into the front seat of the car as he did the same. A small infant in the back sleeping only a seat away from his mother's crime.
"you just had to bring the baby." He muttered putting the car in reverse.
"what were we supposed to do huh? leave him there?" She retorted back. Watching said boy from the review mirror asleep. As he drove off twords a string of new houses being built at the opposite end of the culdesac. Down as far as the street reached. Settling on a newly dug up foundation that was set to have cement poured that next morning.
Hanma got out of the car now being able to take out his frustrations loudly. Slamming the car door as it echoed off the vancent houses. Reaching around the back to open the truck of his obnoxiously large soccer mom car.
What had you done to him truly. What had you done to his life. Hanma shuji had run from his original crimes for as long as he could. Deciding that he would never senselessly kill again unless he had to. And now you had broken his own personal rule. Throwing the man straight into yet another crime.
What did you do to me?
