Though, Rudolph, I just love you, I know you'd want it said, Nestor's ears are lovely as A reindeer's nose is red So children, if you're happy When you trim your Christmas trees You might thank a little donkey Whose ears hung to his knees. Look at little Nestor, He's got ears that drag the ground They shouted as they praised him, And his friends all gathered around. Nestor's heart was happy And his eyes held no more tears. Now all the world knows Nestor for his laughter, And his ears.

I was going to wait till December to share this poll, but so many Christmas decorations are popping up everywhere that I already have the spirit and can't wait anymore.
If you grew up with the classic Rankin/Bass animated Christmas specials – both stop-motion and traditional animation – which one is your favorite?

"Nestor, the Long-Eared Christmas Donkey" (1977) is a superlative film based on Gene Autry's 1975 song.
I loved this movie as a kid. “Nestor, the Long-Eared Christmas Donkey” (1977) is based on the 1975 Gene Autry song, of the same name, which I JUST found out. This makes Nestor, unlike Rudolph and Frosty, a new character that Rankin/Bass has introduced many people to, if you never heard the song, previous to this TV movie, which I have not. I think I watched this one last year, but I have a…

Up for another sad movie in the mix? Let’s add Nestor the Long Eared Christmas Donkey (1977). I know that Nestor isn’t everyone’s favorite Rankin Bass movie, and I get why. However, when I would watch this I felt so bad for Nestor for all he endured. I liked that he had such an important role in his story and what he accomplished. I still watch this movie every year with my boyfriend, but it makes him sad so we have to spread it out across some happier specials. Give it a go if you’re interested.

25 Movies of Christmas, Day 12: Nestor the Long-Eared Christmas Donkey & The Year Without a Santa Claus
this one’s a bit late! But last night I watched two of Rankin Bass’ Christmas classics because they were on the same dvd. Nestor always struck me as a kinda chintzy ploy to make another Rudolph, but it was still a cute special with decent songs.
Year Without a Santa Claus was always good to rewatch, though the final song implies the whole thing was a dream Santa had.
