reread the solstice scene from acofas and was surprised at how pleasant nesta was the entire time. from the way people talk about it, and from Cassian's reaction after she leaves, you'd think she was hissing and insulting everyone in the room. but no.
nesta wishes feyre happy birthday, she thanks elain for her gifts, and sits quietly, allowing them to continue with their presents. meanwhile mor gives cassian silk boxers that match the lingerie set he got her. nesta even kisses elain on the head before she leaves. she is 100% polite.
the next chapter is Cassian's pov and it starts with "he'd had enough. enough of the coldness, the sharpness. enough of the sword-straight spine and razor-sharp stare that had only honed itself these months"
BRO SHE WAS JUST SITTING THERE

are you telling me we have eris…this attractive man who is an older brother with an abusive parental figure but it’s still trying to secure his family. this guy that is willing to be seen as a villain but is hinted to be much more than his past mistakes.
and he is NOT nesta’s love interest?? when he is probably the only one who could truly understand her??
and instead of ending up with the future high lord of autumn and using the political knowledge she got from her mother (since yk she was being raised to marry a prince) as a consort her endgame is with gym bro with an unhealthy relationship with his boss??
I hate it here.

I don't know how to explain but one thing I'll always love about Nesta is her accomplishments and how she's seen in the eyes of canon vs how they genuinely don't register to her (like not in a humble way she genuinely just never thinks about)
like she's able to circumvent a high lords glamour through pure strength of will
she then treks on a 4 day round trip through wolf country in the dead of winter to go get her sister back, simply because it wasn't right she was taken when the family has only benefitted from that
this leads into ACOMAF where Feyre thinks about asking Rhysand if he can force Nesta's hand if she doesn't agree to host (daemati powers) and then questions if he could even do it to Nesta
We've got literal gods talking about some Nesta "you're the one the wind whispered about" in ACOWAR
her having the King off Hybern scared as a human simply because she pointed a finger at him
Then there's the king slaying obviously
Then at some point between ACOFAS & ACOSF she manages to deal with her terror of bathtubs through pure exposure therapy and no outside help
Then there's the weapons she made
Not being able to be contained by Rhys at the height of her power (+ him admitting that she scares)
Kelpie slaying, dread trove, pure death etc.
Then there's the mother imbuing her power into Nesta's friendship bracelets? This one was genuinely crazy
Her managing those 10,000 steps that were difficult for even the bat boys on nothing but strong thighs and spite!
This is one I hate but the IC just throwing her at any single man (Helion & Eris) in Pyrthian to get what they want and it working
Holding the pass for Gwyn & Em, murdering Briallyn, stopping time, making a deal with a soup pot, having a one on one with the mother and saving Nyx, Feyre and Rhys in one morning
Then HOFAS she's calling up the dread trove through universes and slaying the wyrm, getting Gwydion and going down as saviour of another universe
This entire moment>>>>>> "Rhys nodded without looking at the warrior, and focused all his fury on Nesta. To her credit, the female stood stiff-backed, chin high. Imperious and unbending. Ember couldn't help but admire her.
Rhysand’s violet-blue eyes guttered into pure darkness at the challenge in Nesta’s expression, her stance. A predator recognizing a worthy opponent—and unsheathing its talons. His hands curled at his sides, as if invisible claws were forming."
Then we get into Nesta's pov and her only desires are to go home to her man, hang out with Emerie & Gwyn, get her hands on a pegasus, read smutty books and eat chocolate cake 😭
I may not like how her story went but I'll always appreciate that this part of her stayed the same

ACOSF, except that Nesta refuses to move to the House of Wind and packs her bags to leave to the "human lands", but instead of actually going there, she stops at the Spring Court and kinda forces Tamlin to take her in. After all, Spring is close enough to the human lands and she's sure none of the IC would look for her Spring.
She and Tamlin clash at first, but then Nesta tells him that Feyre wanted to lock her in the House of Wind for "her own good" and Tamlin has to take a walk outside the house to not break anything because what the fuck? Those people haven't forgiven him for locking Feyre up to protect her and make him miserable because of it, but suddenly it's okay when they do it? Unbelievable.
They drink together and bond over the Night Court's hypocrisy, how they were treated by them, and Feyre. They start living together. Tamlin plays the music and Nesta dances to it. They spend time in silence in his library or taking relaxing strolls around the garden. Nesta does more healing there that she could've done in the House of Wind. Eventually, she and Tamlin become good friends.
Oh, and she meets Eris again and they actually get to know each other outside the Night Court's machinations. They have a slowburn romance and get married eventually, turning Nesta into the High Lady of Autumn. She helps Tamlin rebuild his court and strikes an alliance between both courts, and she thrives with positive relationships and a man that genuinely loves her and doesn't try to change her.
Also Lucien makes up with Tamlin and returns to Spring, adding him to Nesta's friendship circle.

Nesta should tell Feyre she's sorry for this. Feyre should tell Nesta she's sorry for that. WRONG! Clearly, none of y'all have a sister
Like I don't think I've ever said "I'm sorry" to my sister before. Instead, you ask if they want to go get Taco Bell and then you sit in the parking lot and shit talk about your father. That's what apologies between sisters actually look like

I will actually jump anyone who says the valkyries making friendship bracelets was cringe. If you’re gonna make fun of 20 something year old girls for making friendship bracelets for fun then I better see that same attitude towards the 500 year old grown ass men having a snowball fight each year.I don’t make the rules 🙏.

it’s so jarring reading acotar and acomaf feyre talking about how she hates propriety she hates being expected to birth heirs she hates caring about what other people think. and rhysand tells her he’s so much different than tamlin, he’s a dreamer assuring her that with him she won’t have to do any of those awful things hard cut to acosf feyre pregnant at twenty literally threatening to banish her sister because Nesta embarrassed her. And who was the one who humiliated Feyre by reading the bill in front of everyone. oh that’s right.

it's quite funny that Feyre forced Nesta into coming to a solstice party where she goes to note that no one gave Nesta a gift and Nesta spends the entire time just sitting there quietly before leaving to then have Cassian chase after her bec he didn't like her behavior (of just sitting there) where he then harrassed her until she snapped at him and told him to leave her alone and then in a fit of anger throw a gift for her in the river. classic

Yall do realise they FORCIBLY made a whole nation watch their high lord get off?? Yall do realise how traumatising it is?
Imagine if Biden rubbed one out on live TV and you'd be jailed for life if you don't watch
Imagine the children watching that...yea...

Papa Archeron, the father who curved all narrative responsibilities.
Short rant, but I saw a post somewhere that stated the those who think it would be wiser for the narrative to be more critical of Papa Archeron are abelist because his leg was fucked up, thus it should have meant Nesta and Elain should have been more responsible during their time in poverty and are deserving of the hate they get. Though being more "responsible" in this context would mean going hunting like Feyre than managing a household, trying to maintain some social standanding to be able to gain a wedding match to release the burden on the family- I present Elain's match to Greyson and Nesta's match to that prick, Tomas. They did that. Even if in Nesta's case, it would have been detrimental to her, but something she would have followed through with as that was her duty.
Now, the moment Tamlin gave them their wealth back, which he didn't have to do, Papa Archeron's disability miraculously was no longer a factor. Dude was up and about, travelling the world, making more money and gathering armies like it was a piece of cake, with no excuses and no issue.
Doesn't this just prove Nesta had a good fucking reason to silently rage and refuse to life a finger initially? Because she knew he had it in him to take action and be a parent the entire time, but he chose not to when his children needed him the most. He left them to fend for themselves. He should be the one to receive the ire, but no. His disability became an "out", though the moment money was re-introduced, that was enough to rouse him than his own children. Daughters, no less, in a society where women are expected to be married.
Like, what the actual fuck? Nesta was right about him all along, and the fact that people hate on Nesta for his failings as a parent is mad to me.

So that hofas bonus Ember chapter huh.
I wish Tamlin and Nesta built a casual friendship.
It's such a missed opportunity! They were both assigned penance eternal by the IC over their relationships with Feyre with no road to redemption. In acosf they were both on a shame spiral. You'd think this would be a like calls to like moment! Opportunity to recognise that just coz Rhys's friends hate you doesn't make you a bad person!

ACOTAR Rant
Hot take, Azriel is just as bad as Cassian and Rhysand, it's just that he so happens to be an introvert while Cassian and Rhysand are extroverts.
Just because it's quiet doesn't mean his participation in Nesta and Feyre's abuse is any less impactful.
He didn't tell Feyre about the pregnancy.
He was in active participate in punishing Nesta in the hike from hell by purposefully packing her bag to be as heavy as possible.
When he saw Nesta's bruises from falling down the stairs, he assumed they were from Cassian pushing her and smiled at that.
He was a bystander as Cassian controlled Nesta down to her eating habits.
And I have plenty of reason to believe he was not placed with Cassian as one of Nesta's prison guards to make sure they didn't fuck, he was there to make absolute certain that Cassian did not let Nesta out.
He was just the only one who didn't say anything to her face, therefore he was the only member of the Inner Circle that Nesta could stand to be around. It doesn't make him a better person, he's just as bad as the rest of em.
Azriel started proclaiming his undying love to a woman who had been tortured and was currently sitting on enemy territory.
He regifted something made for a woman he sexually fantasized about and tried to fuck, to an SA survivor.
Azriel is creepy, and weird, and just as horrible as the rest of them, that's why he's Rhysand's friend.
Now, do I obsessively write about him with Eris? Of course I do! I love taking characters with the personality of a upside down goldfish in an empty tank and turning them into the object of my creative desires.
But at the end of the day, he still sucks just as much as the rest of them.
