Everything I learned about Neil Hargrove in one scene:

He doesn't respect the boundaries of others but expects others to respect and uphold his boundaries.

The example: he yells at Billy to open his bedroom door, as opposed to Susan who just prior had knocked. Both want to talk to him, but only one respects that Billy shut his bedroom door for privacy. Example 2: He walks straight into Billy's room uninvited while Susan stays in the hall. Example 3: while speaking with Billy, Neil becomes surprised and quickly angered that Billy raised his voice. One could argue that this is a matter of manners, how one raises children etc about not raising your voice to your parents. However the main point is that thus far Neil has ignored at least three separate boundaries of Billy's and the moment Billy treads on a single boundary that Neil has... He becomes angry.

Another example Neil was late to return home, but when Billy points that out, it is considered crossing a line. Billy is the one that is flawed. But he is not allowed to point out flaws in Neil.

Neil has a sense of entitlement.

Again with the example of not feeling the need to knock at Billy's door and instead yelling and demanding he open it. So what if Neil believes I paid for the house I own it, I own the door, etc etc. Neil operates with a belief system that if he yells at Billy, Billy will open the door. If he tells Billy to "watch his sister" he'll do it. And so on. And when these high and mighty expectations aren't met. Neil takes them like a personal affront. That Billy's hurting him, making him angry, or possibly disobeying him on purpose.

Neil believes that Billy owes him his loyalty, and that as a son he should be dutiful and ask no questions. Neil believes that he is owed a lot from Billy... He demands that Billy apologize even though Susan says it's unnecessary. The apology truly isn't for her it's for Neil and what he believes he's owed.

Neil uses coercive language.

When Neil has Billy pinned to the wall he uses "we" statements. "What did we talked about?" As if to suggest that this topic is something that was mutually agreed upon rather than just told and yet again expected of Billy.

He then uses more pressured coercive language with an unspoken threat attached. That Billy will sacrifice his date night because he's instead going to prove what a good loving brother he is, "isn't that right Billy?"

Neil uses multiple forms of intimidation.

He mainly uses physical intimidation, entering Billy's room immediately. Using closed off or standoffish body language. He already doesn't believe what Billy is going to say no matter what it is. When Billy eventually does something that Neil finds worthy of biting onto and becoming fully aggressive with he then relies on full eye contact. It's like he hardly blinks compared to Billy and that he's trying to burn holes into him.

When Neil pulls away and it seems like the threat is dwindling Neil turns back and again leans into direct eye contact. He also becomes more tense locking his jaw.

Lastly, it seems that Neil's both promissory and ending notes of intimidation are yelling or otherwise raising his voice. He seems like he quite literally wants to be the one to have the last word. He wants to start scenarios with "or else" and end them with it too. The worst gut churning mic drop of all.

When you own a closet full of masks

The way Billy's face goes blank in season 2 after his dad hits him reminded me so much of myself that I almost immediately knew this wasn't the first time. Growing up, when my dad was already in a bad mood, I had to train myself to change my face and emotions into whatever he expected, or nothing at all, to make as easy as possible for myself. Even a twitch could sometimes set him off, so I taught myself to stay neutral. Ironically enough, he now complains I never show any emotion, and I do, just not around him or people I don't know or perceive as possibly hostile. And the way Billy broke down immediately after his dad left broke my heart because of how much I saw myself in that scene.

Abuse survivors can train themselves to be pretty good actors. We learn to roll with the punches because it's all we can do, and Billy adapts his mask into whatever best currently fits his situation. High school, home, his dad, at the Byers house, and the pool, he acts differently depending on the situation and who he needs or is expected to be at that moment. They want a king, be a king, max needs a rules enforcer, that's what he'll be, Karen wants a little confidence boost, he'll play along if it means finding his sister, Steve wants to be all tough and put up a fight when his stepsister is a possibly dangerous situation, well two can play that game, the coven of white suburban moms want eye candy, he can't say no and he can't do anything so might as well as long as they don't touch. No one even really knew him to the point all max could tell him was his address and name, that's how good his mask was and how high his walls.

Yeah. Seconds before, he was talking back to his father giving him a tone. He obviously knew that once Neil had him against the wall, he had to “fix his face” or else he was going to keep getting hit. Abuse survivors have to learn how to mask and adapt, and that’s all Billy has ever done.

Can I say something. I am still so mad about Good Omens season 3 being a 90 minute episode. Listen I understand what happened with Neil Gaiman and I am upset about it too but the thing is he stepped down from season three of Good Omens. He stepped down and the other writers know that season three was suposed to be and Amazon instead of making the third season of a show that is so beloved and has a cult following is reducing it to a 90 minute episode, and you know why they're doing it. Its not because of Neils allegations and we all know it. Good Omens is being fucking nerfed because its gay. Season two was filled with queer characters in the forefront, had an amazing representation of a disabled character, had trans character, gay characters, gender fluid characters, black gay characters, It was a GAY fucking show. and now its being killed. Componies are taking Neils allegations as an excuse to cancel queer shows.

Dead Boy Detectives was NUMBER ONE on netflix when it realized and I didn't see any promotion from Netflix or anything of the like. People LOVE the show and its fandom is still active and wants the show to return. But oh it got cancelled due to neils allegations and totally has nothing to do with the fact that the show features gay and POC main characters with amazing representation where their identity is not their whole personality. Netflix was just chomping at the bit to cancel a show like that because its not the cis straight white media that assholes say are the only shows that can exists.

The Sandman is from the same fucking universe as Dead Boy Detectives and I don't see it getting cancelled or reduced to a 90 minute episode. Because its not explicitly gay. Yeah all the fans love Hob and Dream and I do too but its not actually cannon. Producers LOVE queer coded characters to make lgbt+ viewers interested and still not have to actually be inclusive or anything and The Sandman has that. The Sandman was never questioned as the direction the show would take without Gaiman and is allowed to live. Fuck I mean Disney never said that they were taking Coraline down or anything of the like because ITS NOT GAY. All the shows and movies that don't explicitly have queer characters have been FINE this whole time, no one was killing American Gods, no one is touching Coraline because oh its a beloved film and I grew up on it, Well guess fucking what I know so many people that grew up on Good Omens and it was the first time they felt seen as a queer person, Good Omens has a cult following too and I my entire life have heard people talking about Good Omens as a show everyone needed to watch. But his gay shows that already have material written for its next season(Remember Dead Boy Detectives is a comic series as well) are being killed

So no its not because componies are supporting victims its pure homophobia that is the reason these shows are ending like this and I am still mad.
