Peter Laird: Yeah, back [when we started] we had no idea that people would even want to read about our crazy little characters! Hey... remember how we came up with the idea for them?

Kevin Eastman: How could I forget? The most-asked question when we go to a convention or signing is, "How'd you guys come up with the turtles?" Let's see... it started with the pencil sketch I did of a turtle with nunchucks strapped to its forearms.

[both discuss other early concept sketches of turtles with weapons, leading to he idea of "ninjas."]

P: ... remember how we came up with the Shredder?

K: Oh, nooo...

P: We were in the kitchen of the house in Dover, doing the dishes or something, and you slipped one of those rectangular vegetable graters over your hand and forearm, and said, "How about a villain who would wear these on his arms and legs, to beat on people with, and we could call him -- Grateman!"

K: Yeah... that name, as I recall, was a parody of that "Skateman" character that appeared around that time. Fortunately, we realized what a stupid idea "Grateman" was, so we changed him into the Shredder, a slightly less stupid character.

P: Then we came up with Splinter, who was kind of a counterpart to Frank Miller's "Stick" in Daredevil. ... Geeze, it's hard to believe it was almost two years ago we did all that stuff.

Debut Album Kuma Hana by Dublin based Artist Neil Adams

Kuma Hana is the latest project of Dublin-based multi-instrumentalist Neil Adams. The musician is known for his contributions to the indie and electronic scenes in Ireland. This includes his work with the band The Cast of Cheers. Born in Sligo and raised in Dublin, Adams spent his formative years immersed in music. He played in various bands and honed his skills across multiple instruments. With Kuma Hana, Adams embarks on a solo journey that marks the culmination of years of experimentation and creativity.
