Another thing that I HATE in the asoiaf/GOT fandom is when people criticize Ned so heavily for warning Cersei. "He was so stupid, he didn't know how to play the game."
By telling Cersei that he knows the truth he wasn't trying to gain anything. He knew that it wasn't a strategic move or anything like that. What he also knew is what would likely happen to the Lannister children once Robert found out. They were innocent children. He wasn't being stupid he was being HUMAN. Was it the most wise decision made in the series? No, but can we really criticize him so heavily for wanting to protect children from dying?

i’m not trying to bully anyone but i need everyone to REREAD THE BOOKS bc the vale cousins are BROUGHT UP BY CATELYN first of all and second of all VERY INFAMOUSLY,,,, NED’S SIBLINGS ALL GOT FUCKED IN A WAR OF COURSE THERE ARENT ANY STARK COUSINS like i say this as someone who has a whole graphic and meta planned out about how it’s so weird there isn’t a recent cadet stark house, but ned very much has first and second cousins, they are just female line, so he’s not close to them. it’s ✨the patriarchy✨that makes it so jocelyn and branda’s children are not considered ~part of the stark family~ anymore thus making it harder for Ned to rebuild the family,,, like yes some of this is George just not wanting to juggle even MORE characters but to lob this criticism at THIS SERIES SPECIFICALLY and then to defend it with “well that’s how the writer wanted it” as if there’s not in universe reasons explaining all this!!!!!
IM BEGGING EVERYONE TO REREAD THE TEXT

I can’t imagine if Jon had been born with targs hair 🤣 Poor Ned was gonna have a hearth attack, never letting the kid out, just living there in the catacombs, some ancient hair dye and never close to water
I am convinced that in the first few years of Jons life, Ned unironically developed an insane anxiety disorder. Like I am sure that man woke up in the middle of the night gasping for air in a cold sweat multiple nights in a row for years, only to throw himself out of bed and check on Jon only to see he looks exactly the same as he did when he put him to bed hours ago.
A wet nurse probably told him once when Jon was a baby, that sometimes after a few months a newborn can develop a completely different hair and eye colour, and Ned almost blacked out on the spot.
I guarentee he had an emergency plan on what he was going to do if one day he woke up and Jon had silver hair or purple eyes or god forbid both. Like he and Howland Reed absoutely had plans from A to Z on what the fuck to do if one day Jon woke up looking like Rhaegar to a paranoid degree.
Jons wet nurse as a baby 100% thought Ned Stark was a complete basket case. Just completely out of his mind bananas. Asking Luwin multiple times about how one would go about dying hair a different colour and Luwins just standing there like "Its a bit early to worry about grey hairs, my lord." Meanwhile Neds like "HAHAHAHAHA YES ITS FOR ME OF COURSE."
He loves that boy don't get me wrong, but there is zero chance Ned didn't spent the first few years of Jons life a nervous wreck almost every goddamn day of his life.

Whoever is sending me requests for the Doom Breaker guys and gals, just know that I love you.
I like writing about those weirdos and unfortunately lack in coming up with prompts sometimes, but you guys are a goldmine of concepts and ideas. I love it. Please keep doing it.

It's been years and somehow I'm still not over Ned's death. Like WHAT DO YOU MEAN they killed off the main character? It's honestly one of the scenes that I can't bear to rewatch. No other fictional death has affected me this much. Except maybe for Cat's in the red wedding.

okay personal grievance but. grrm making cat get pregnant on her wedding night was just one of the manu cruelties he enacted upon her but arguably the one that goes the most unnoticed. she did not want to have sex with that man

Why should I avenge Eddard Stark ? The man was nothing to me.
I can see two reasons... The man died trying to put you on the throne. Also, if you avenge his death,  you’ll have the army of the biggest kingdom of Westeros because he was the warden of the North and had the loyalty/army of the North and that’s how politics of this world works ?
Fucking Stannis.
(I still think it’s hilarious that everytime he meets a Stark after that, he has to mention how much he disliked Ned even though he is dead and they are in the middle of a diplomatic negociation that could get him the northern army or having a warden of the North loyal to him)

not to be a GoT/ASoIaF meta writer but I'm re-watching the first season and re-reading A Clash of Kings and its occurring to me something something patriarchy something something society but anyway its just really interesting to me how Catelyn (and also Sansa at the beginning) are very good at working within the rules and social mores of their society
of course, we see examples of women who struggle to fit within the rigid definition of "womanhood" that Westeros demands (Arya, Brienne, even Cersei to an extent) whereas Catelyn and Sansa, while clearly finding the limits within their roles (thinking about Catelyn's "I did my duty all my life" monologue), still manage to perform and excel in it. And idk where I'm going with this but I think it's really interesting how Catelyn and Sansa get a lot of hate thrown at them, when in reality it's less about them as people and more about the society that is pointing at them and saying "performing womanhood like Catelyn and Sansa is the only acceptable way"
Arya and Brienne actively rebel against a world that is telling them to be one thing when internally they'd rather be something else. Sansa and Catelyn don't feel the same discomfort, it's easier for them to "fit in", and they do benefit but it's not a character fault.
