Robert Tsai (the boy who plays the keyboard) came to Richard Linklater early on in the filming stages and said he wasn’t sure he was the right cast for the role. Linklater told him that it was his insecurity that benefitted the role, and encouraged him to continue with the part.

Jack Black made up all the nicknames for the kids. They weren’t in the script.

Throughout the film, Jack Black switches his hair from left to right, depending on whether he is playing Dewey Finn or Ned Schneebly.

Jack Black said it was the highlight of his career because he enjoyed working with the kids so much.

Richard Linklater agreed to direct the movie on the promise that all the kid actors played their own instruments.

Good morning!  I hope you slept well and feel rested?  Currently sitting at my desk, in my study, attired only in Blue Towelling Robe No. 2, enjoying my first cuppa of the day.  Happy Hump Day!

Very busy week.  Will be talking to students via Zoom all day.  It’s important to be positive and encouraging.  Naturally, it’s an unbelievably competitive industry, but it’s my job to come up with viable, practical suggestions and solutions, as you would with your child.  No proper parent would ever discourage their child.  You’d warn them of the dangers and pitfalls but support them in every way you could.  Being a parent (and grandparent), my students can feel that parental vibe, they know that I genuinely care about them.  When I pass them in corridors, they want to shake my hand or hug me.  It’s my job to keep them optimistic.  Without hope and optimism, one can get cynical and grouchy. 

As we have a big birthday celebration NEXT weekend, we’ll be down in Hove THIS weekend. Always something to look forward to.  Have I told you how much I love my family?  Every so often, I get an overwhelming feeling of how lucky I am.  My immediate and extended family are just brilliant.  I’ve heard about family squabbles but I’ve never been involved in anything like that.  Have I told you how much I love my friends?  My goodness, my friends are upright, rock solid people!  Yes, yes, I know I’m too emotional! 

Wow, Tuesday’s Metro actually reported that people “cheered” when 47 came on to the Superbowl field.  As per normal, we are back in the firm grip of ‘fake news’.  Best (real) news story yesterday: Denmark just offered POTUS $1 trillion to buy California from the US.  Denmark says they will “make California great again.”

Cannot wait for ‘The White Lotus’ (Season Two).  Hope to god it’s a as good as Season One, which was beautifully written and acted, great stories, great characters, and deeply and darkly deviant.  Fun fact, the show was created by Mike White, who played Ned Schneebly in ‘School Of Rock’, which he wrote.

Imagine if at the end of SCHOOL OF ROCK Jack Black was like "psych, I was actually neither Ned Schneebly or Dewey Finn but deceased Libyan dictator Muammar Gadaffi"

The twist at the end of HPMOR is so fucking funny when you consider how quirrel was in the early chapters tho. Imagine if at at the end of Dead Poets Society Robin Williams took off his rubber mask to reveal he was Saddam Hussein the whole time doing an elaborate bit and also he never even believed in Islam and just liked killing people and giving the US military a hard time
