Long time no see!

I haven't been on tumblr in a long time but here's an update! I still love nct and yuta and I am so proud of how far the boys have come! Reason for my absence is that I've been on a musical journey myself in recent years, and I'm now in this really cool band called ColorMeKrazy!

I'm super involved in the writing and producing process, so there are definitely some kpop influences that sneak their way in. So if that interests you, please check out my bands music!

Excuse you! Ateez are fun in that intermittently tortuous way. Like, what the heck is Yunho doing these days. Where are his parents. Does he still go to church. Why are his hands naked. It's obnoxious and rude, if you ask me.

I love AESPA lately. It's just so fun, in that harmless and unpressured way. Like I listen to it and I don't feel I need to be a certain type of fan to enjoy it.

I wish TXT had better music. Their Lovesick Trilogy Era was perfect to me. It's astounding they released Lovesong, Anti Romantic, Lover=Loser and Chasing That Feeling followed by......all the new drab material that has no personality.

I heard that GOT7 are having a comeback and man, I didn't know how much I missed them. I'm looking forward to that.

I actually also miss NCT127 with Taeyong. More than I thought I would. That guy is so essential to the group that it's insane he had antis in the first place.

I need to catch up on WayV because I think they are so underrated and have great music. I'm still annoyed with what happened to them but it's SM and China-Line, so I guess I should've seen it coming.

after 4 years, eurydice has the opportunity to once again compose a song for nct. eurydice also helped to compose 2 tracks in their second mini album, girls and illusion. eurydice was extremely proud of ‘girls’, especially the bridge that had heavy dubstep influence, however the lack of public affection for the song ‘girls’ disappointed eurydice. instead, they enjoyed the other song she composed and written, ‘illusion’ better.

BigBang are the real kings of k-pop. No scandals, long hiatuses, or departed members can sink them. And Day6 is a positive example of a band coming back to fame after the enlistment period.

Considering that Dream is tailored to SK and that 127 had only one comeback this year, this result overturns widespread assumptions.

This is very surprising. And good for Doyoung. Band music used to be frown upon after some public scandals with rock-musicians getting naked on stage on TV (? I think), but now it is back in fashion.

6th place Riize 146 million streams

The fact that Riize is so popular is great for two reasons: 1) it proved SM can function without LSM (this group is not his project), 2) SM has a breadwinner in 5gen (and NCT Wish will join very soon, too) and thus has means to continue pleasing the shareholders, restructuring and making solos for everyone who wants.

8th Stray Kids 110 million streams

Compare with NCT units' results. Not that big of a gap (especially if we count in NCT/NCT U songs). Some groups are more popular abroad then at home. I mean, SKZ are still very popular, just not as much as it seems from Weguk.

What I've been up to:

Got promoted at work for the second time in as many months

Shuttled between Paris -> Tokyo -> Hanoi... *twice* within 10 days on account of said promotion

Had to travel back to Korea for a funeral

Took some time to reflect and eat a ridiculous amount of kimchi (one more thing I have in common with Jimin), then went back to work

Been writing about music with some friends on another platform

Re-discovering Jin. I'm not sure what it is but some time ago it dawned on me that until now I never really paid Jin much attention. And so I've been deep diving into his music lately and it's fun.

Listening to a shit ton of music. I'm especially jamming out to Paramore, NewJeans, BTS, NCT, and Nirvana lately.

And about that, can I just take a sec to rant about NewJeans and gush about how good NCT's latest comeback is?

ARMYs are going to have to get used to seeing NewJeans do well. I saw some of the anxiety over 59 radio spins, PAKs, Min Heejin's interview, and whatever else, and just had to laugh. This might be harsh for some to hear, but I think ARMYs should be happy that the first taste of a challenge to what they think BTS's status is, has come from friendly quarters. Because over the next two years there will be many opportunities for several 'records' to be surpassed. Those possibilities are real and while I don't necessarily care, I understand a huge chunk of the fandom ties their idea of BTS and their worth/impact to the records they hold. This sort of challenge to the beliefs of that many people will cause a sort of implosion. And that's just sad when you remember that throughout all that time, NewJeans will just keep releasing good music and keep doing even better.

Now NCT. For the first time in three years I am not completely disappointed. (Too bad SM Entertainment is sort of self-destructing right now.) Ay Yo is giving me everything the boys are capable of. And by 'the boys' I'm referring to Haechan, Mark, and Taeyong - that trio + Ten are the only people I care for (in a very neutral sense), in NCT. Chenle and Jaemin occasionally stand out. But the real star this comeback is the song. 2 Baddies was an atrocity that didn't need to exist, but Ay Yo sits just at the sweet spot between disorienting experimentation and anthem hit. When you see the boys perform it it only gets better. I'm impressed in how their confidence has grown and here I'm speaking about all the guys. Taeil has always been confident but he and Johnny are really leaning into it this comeback. The whole group feels so much more cohesive this time around. By this I mean, NCT127 as it is now rivals SuperM for their 'avengers of k-pop' title, for whatever that is worth. I really like the song though that bridge and Jaehyun's part was a bit unfortunate - my taste.

The choreo is the sickest thing I've seen in a bit. This song alone has saved their comeback.

So about your question...

For monsta x I don't really have one favorite era sound-wise, though I recently saw the mv for rush hour and thought it looked really really nice.

My favorite ateez era is definitely guerilla. The punky-ness of the mv and the sound is *chef's kiss*. Also cyberpunk is probably one of their best songs ever.

I don't remember if I mentioned NCT127/U in my submission, because I've only recently realised that I am a fan. But pretty much not a single day goes by where I don't listen to baggy jeans at least once. And also the mv is so nice. the fashion? Yes. The colors? Yes. The sets? Yes. Jaehyun saying "baggy baggy baggy baggy jeans" in the first chorus? Triple yes. Maybe even quadruple yes..

Then I really, like really like the branding or whatever you wanna call it for stray kids' rockstar with the hot pink and cyan, though I only really like megaverse from the ep. As a whole, my favorite era of theirs is 5-star. The title track was good, the mvs were cool, the aesthetic was clean, and I'm actually able to name more than two non title track songs from the album. I'd be surprised if Item and super bowl don't make some form of apperance in my spotify wrapped.

K-909 is a new programme, BoA is its host. SM has been sending its artists since the first episode (starting from NCT127 and 2 Baddies comeback).

One of the segments is a collaboration with a foreign artist. It is quite possible that Doyoung was chosen by SM this way around. SM used to do SM Stations with foreign artists, so this new type of collab is basically the same thing just on TV.

Doyoung asked his own brothet to find him OSTs, heh. He always says he wants to sing live more. I guess his interest in such opportunities is well known in SM.
