This is a post about Palamedes and Epipole, but first -

So usually, Nauplios, father of Palamedes, did at some point begun to be considered the king of Euboia, though he's given as the founder of Nauplia in the Peloponnese.

For that reason, and the fact that in the Catalogue of ships, the whole of Euboia seems to fall entirely under Elephenor's authority (the brief account of settlements in Euboia under his authority are scattered from north to south), I've for myself completely ignored the "king of Euboia" and put Nauplios and his family in Nauplia instead.

(Sure, I suppose one could say Nauplion is ruling some small bit of southern Euboia, or is simply under Elephenor's ultimate authority, but I didn't do this.)

When it comes to Epipole and her story of crossdressing and being discovered by Palamedes, however, if one goes with "Nauplion is the king of Euboia"... Epipole comes from Karystos. In Euboia. In which case Palamedes isn't just a sharp-eyed and clever man seeing through a random soldier's disguise, but rather one of his own soldiers. And Epipole is betrayed by her own prince and commander.
