The Protect ICWA Campaign was established by the National Indian Child Welfare Association, the National Congress of American Indians, The Association on American Indian Affairs, and the Native American Rights Fund. The forced assimilation of Native people in the U.S. is nothing new and it has always targeted children. That's why over 40 years ago, the Indian Child Welfare Act was put into place. The number one goal of the ICWA was to curb the generational harm caused by Native children being separated from their families and tribal communities.
What many people may not understand is that Native children being separated from their families is a modern issue, impacting far too many Native children to this day. And come November 9, the law working to protect these children from being forcibly removed from their homes and families will be challenged in front of the Supreme Court of the United States.
Click on the link to this petition. Help stop forced assimilation and the theft of Native Children.
Your silence makes you complicit in Native genocide.

A two year review finished by the DOJ shows Minneapolis Police's widespread discrimination against it's Native & Black residents. The review also shows excessive/deadly force, the use of force following stops, and discrimination against those with behavioral health disabilities. The CDC & 2019 Census data released show that Native people suffer from police deaths 2.2 % higher than white people and 1.2 % higher than black people. Here is the report
This is really scary

its easy to fall into despair ab the state of the world, things are in fact grim. but we've made it through grim stuff before. we'll continue to make it through.
the road is long and hard, its going to take some doing to wade through it. i'm disheartened right now, i wont lie. i feel so low. im burnt out, im sickly, my disabilities are flaring, i've been having near constant delusions.
its hard to find joy, its hard to find any kind of happy to holdon to. i know im struggling to do that. ive been overpouring.
i really hope i find joy in life again... i really do.
for now i will throw myself relentlessly into fighting for Palestine, for Sudan, for Congo, for my fellow Black people, my fellow Natives. I will fight until my dying breath to get their voices heard!
We exist, and have existed. We will NOT be silenced!

Just reaching out to the following kinds of beta readers:
Has lots of knowledge about black history and/or native american history
Has lots of knowledge in american history (the one that's not sugarcoated in U.S. schools)
Has lots of knowledge on Inuit culture
Has a good understanding of Ratonhnhaké:ton/Connor Kenway's and Aveline De Grandpré's character
Feel free to drop some good resources about the first 3 if you aren't willing to beta read but have some contributions. I'm planning to write an alternative history fic with an inuit oc involved and I don't wanna glamourize or sugarcoat certain topics.

Today is Red dress day. Remember and Honour all of the Native Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two spirits that have gone missing and have been murdered. Most of these cases are never heard in the public and they are sadly forgotten. Today I want to spread awareness for all Indigenous people, I want to share my culture and help others understand the importance of sharing stories from these victims.
I will be donating as well on this day to several sites that support native women and girls. And also a few sites that want to protect ICWA. I suggest you do the same but if you are not financially able to then spread awareness respectfully.🧡🧡
(I’m doing Donation commission 50% of the profits go to NICWA! this post-> https://www.tumblr.com/walterdoodles/719214714265255936/im-opening-up-some-donation-commissions-if-you )

"I don't want to hear in another 25, that we have another Matthew Shepard, that we have another Nex Benedict. We need to protect our kids now."
Amelia Marquez (she/they), Thomas Edison High teacher, speaking at the Twin Cities vigil for Nex Benedict, organized by Thomas Edison High Gender and Sexuality Alliance. (transcript below)
[My name is Miss Amelia Marquez, as I am commonly getting told I am now. Um, my pronouns are she and they and I apologize, I lost my voice last night, uh, screaming at somebody that said that educators are only worth a 3% wage increase.
(Crowd) You sound great.
(Crowd 2) Yeah, you sound great.
I see you. Um, as a teacher--as a trans and two spirit teacher--I want to offer all of my sympathies to my little cousin, Nex. Things like this should not be happening. But I can tell you, as somebody that grew up and is a trans refuge here in your lovely state from the state of Montana, that it continues to happen. I have students that I had to leave back in Montana that continued to beg, that I can help them, that their home was not safe for them, that they needed protection. But I needed to take care of myself. I needed to put my air mask on before I protected other people, and I promised them I would not stop fighting for them a single day of my life. My students are precious to me. Absolutely precious. They also get me to do wild things like this. I plea with each and every one of you, especially my cisgender friends and relatives, and in our lovely crowd tonight.
Please don't stop talking. Get out there. These kids should not be afraid to go to the bathroom in our public schools here in Minneapolis, in Saint Paul. It is necessary that our school districts start to look at the funding that was passed this legislative session, thanks to that fucking phenomenal queer caucus--sorry kids--and that we start to actually make change happen. Real change doesn't happen from the top down. Real change happens from the bottom up. And we need, we need for our school districts here in the city as a trans refuge area, to start to act, to start to make these schools safer, to make it so that those little babies back in Montana have a place when they get over here. Because I can tell you, many of them in conservative America are planning to come out here. Please make it a safe place for them. Make it so we do not have future situations. I don't want to hear in another 25, that we have another Matthew Shepard, that we have another Nex Benedict. We need to protect our kids now. Thank you.]

i hate things that debases Black/Native folk or denies us our humanity or under-represents disabled people, or totes the notion that the ONLY way for a disabled person to live a fulfilled life is to be MAGICALLY healed at the end. So naturally I barely consume mainstream media bc its all terrible. I have YET to watch a decent show that doesn't play into stereotypes, or shitty tropes. (I have not seen Reservation Dogs as of yet as I do not have a Hulu Sub)
ppl will be like "such and such went WoKe" When literally they are JUST tryna get diversity points and dont gaf ab portraying, Black, Native, Disabled people in an accurate light. ANd the when we have the "gall" to comment, no matter how charitably, we get cussed out and abused verbally, sometimes physically.
We'll simply say something like "We would like our own stories pls" and ppl will scream "THEN MAKE IT YOURSEVLES!!" And then we will try and get it made and studios will either scoff at us, or give us a terrible budget, etc and then it wont sell well, and they'll be like "See these stories don't sell. So suck my balls and fuck yourself fuckhead. No one wants to see your dumb little story." Even other black writers/producers will write shitty black characters, particularly black women are NEVER characterized in a way that speaks to our humanity UNLESS we're light skint. Black GIRLS (literal GIRLS) are often portrayed as "fast" or "hot tailed" Black women are usually pigeon-holed into stereotypes, mammy/sassy black friend, sapphire, Jezebel, etc... I HATE media with a BURNING passion. I never watch shows anymore really. The last show I really got into was BES.
