18+ only! due to nathan’s nature, attitude and language no minors will be interacting with this blog. if you do, or you don’t list your age, you will be blocked. i am 19 — turning 20 soon and don’t want kids interacting with him because of the dark topics discussed. 18+ being said, i will not write smut under any circumstance.

this blog will deal with heavy subjects and insensitive language, nathan can be crude and may throw cruel terms around, some of the content warnings will be : mentions of kidnappings, drug use, overdoses, suicidal ideation, references to self harm, manipulation, murder, general violence & trauma. all of these will be tagged.

my nathan iteration is somewhat alternate from lis canon. he’s transgender, however this is not disclosed in blackwell — but it is important for some of his character studies and internal monologue. he deals with internalised trans/homophobia and craves any kind of male validation, hence his preppy, misogynistic shell, learnt from his family. he deals with issues of suicidality, drug/alcohol dependency, anger issues and self harm. this will not be discussed in too much detail unless discussed beforehand and tagged. he did not kill rachel amber. jefferson did with drugs nathan supplied, nathan saw, and was coerced into joining his dark room through his mental break, he’s manipulated into believing he did kill her. however, he often tends to forget rachel is dead in the first place due to the trauma being blocked out. he is still responsible for working with jefferson, but he is only used for drugs and transportation, nathan has never actually killed before. this is disputed canon, but it’s what i go with in my writing. this is not to excuse or say nathan is innocent either — just that it’s more nuanced.

I’M EXTREMELY PRO AU AND OCS ! i love interacting with ocs and making new aus, and although i may not be the most active in conversations, please feel free to infodump and talk about them, especially during plotting so i can get a good grasp on your character(s) !

i will use icons but i am always writing on my phone. i cannot see my format in desktop so i do apologise if anything looks funky.

main verse : a puppeted protégé — during life is strange. nathan is working with jefferson and his typical self. can be set any time along the timeline, before rachel, during rachel’s death, during the game with max. age 18. HIGH ACTIVITY.

secondary verse : the stains won’t leave my hands — alternate life is strange au — nathan manages to get out of jefferson’s manipulation early and gets him arrested. nathan is getting psychiatric help and is recovering. still guarded and sharp. age 19-upwards. HIGH ACTIVITY.

triad verse : bound to your namesake — original game premise au where sean prescott is involved/aware of the storm and knows about jefferson. the prescott family is involved in darker, more cryptic behaviour. the town of arcadia bay is destroyed by the storm with only those having the prescott bunkers surviving, leaving sean to become a kind of cult leader to the town — more supernatural and horror-orientated. age 18-upwards. SELECTIVE / MED ACTIVITY.

quad verse : time seems to end — set during the alternate universe in ep 3, where max is the ring leader and nathan is a friend of hers. wears blue. his ‘healthy’, kinder version where jefferson doesn’t get to him. cut connection with his dad and lives with his sister. both the most unusual and nicest verse. however he’s… stuck with another issue… age 18-upwards. SELECTIVE / MED ACTVITY.

Summary: It is 1994, Maxine is in San Francisco. She met the very young, and very in love Joyce and William. Chloe's parents. Or, to be parents. The oddly cathartic experience, however strange for the teens, only got Maxine thinking.

The Year never mattered. The passage of time all became relativity. As did the subjectiveness of it all. As did ones own humanity, their morals. It all became something that was never concrete. Never stayed for more than the time she was there. It took on the shape that was needed wherever she was. Whoever she was. Every form was Maxine. She made sure of that. The same even voiced, freckled faced woman they'd come to know through the years. Coming and going like wind.

Though, on late nights when the floorboards dug into her shoulder blades, blue orbs ever focusing on the ceiling fan of her current dwelling, she always thought of them. Her. That place. However damaging and changing, Arcadia Bay permeated Maxine's very soul. Every occurrence since then stemmed from it. Even now, being pushed and pulled by time, flung into something other. Places, people, faces... all new. Unknown. Surely, to be nonexistent in such a way, yet the opposite was a punishment of sorts by the universe.

It sure as all hell felt that way today. She was on a path, on a bench during the day, sipping away on a coffee and paging through her journal. Maxine was a Watcher. Ever the Observer of the world. Normally, she wouldn't pay mind to anyone passing by her on this path. They wouldn't remember her. And she, them. Though...that laugh. With the ever Southern twang to it. It made her feel eighteen again. Younger even. And when she looked...

Joyce. And William was with her. They were so, so young. They looked to be barely into their 20s. Eyes full of hopeful youth. And when she looked further: the roundness of Joyce's belly beneath a white tank top was more than apparent. She was very pregnant. With Chloe. Oh....Oh Chloe....

They were talking of everything and nothing. Of what to do with their time in San Francisco on their vacation before the birth. The birth... Everything began playing like a tape in the back of her mind as she watched. They'd stopped. And there. There. William had a camera. An old, eggshell, perhaps tan Kodak Polaroid Instant Camera. The very one he used when she and Chloe were children on Cedar Ave in their home. The one Chloe gave her at eighteen as a gift when Nathan Prescott broke the other. It seemed William was struggling. With getting the right angle, the lighting, all of it. She stood before fully thinking through what she would say or do.

"Need a hand?" His eyes flew up from the camera, from Joyce and to her. He nervously laughed.

"I, uh, yeah." Christ... it still sounded like him. Maxine held out her hand in offering. He handed over the camera which she has and hasn't yet called a companion. The weight is so familiar in her hands. Fingers easily landing on the button to take a picture. Photography was as easy as breathing at 28. So finding the right angle, the rays of the sun hitting their faces. She looked at them expectantly and they then posed. William slung an arm around Joyce and leaned in for a kiss. One which was provided without hesitation, both smiling into it. Maxine took the photo.

"So, you're on a trip." Maxine remarked this handing them both the fresh photo and the camera back.

"What makes you say that?" Joyce's head tilted.

"C'mon... a young couple on a walking path, conveniently in perfect view of the iconic bridge of San Fran? An even more convenient camera? You're tourists." Max finished this with the softest, kindest smile she could muster. The pair laughed.

"Ya caught us." William said haughtily. He went to put the camera away in his tote bag. And then he went to examine the picture. "Damn... lighting's perfect. What do they call that again?"

"Golden Hour."

A quiet nod as they looked on at the photo, then Maxine. This was getting weird. Hell, for everyone else besides her, it would be. No one ever got to meet their Best Friends parents before they became such.

"So, When are they due?"

"March. The beginning of the month if I remember the doctor right." Joyce finished this with the placement of her dainty hand over the baby bump ever so lovingly.

"Did you have a name in mind?"

"Chloe."

"Middle will be Elizabeth." William added on, just as proud, just as excited. Christ, if only they knew what lay ahead... No. Let this be. Let it be.

"You'll make great parents. I mean, look at your faces." Maxine beamed falsely. "You should mark the photo. A title or phrase. This seems like an important moment."

William was all over it. Though, in his bag, he didn't have a pen. But Max did. A permanent marker in black ink. Max looked up and dared to ask for their names, all three for clarification although she already knew it. And so, when they answered, she cemented this moment in time with what she read so long ago.

"SF Holidays with William (and Chloe)"

She capped the marker back off, and returned the photo. Fingers brushing with William's. And oh, did it hurt to feel, to register his being corporeal. Here. This wouldn't likely happen again. So when they thanked her for taking the shot, wished her a good night, and left without asking her name, she just... stood there. Watching their bodies fade over the curve of the walking path and away into their lives. The next 14 years will be beautiful. Simple. Idyllic.

And then William will be killed in a crash. Chloe will pull away. Joyce will be shattered. Five more years, then a Mother, Joyce would be no longer. And in this timeline, Chloe would stay dead. Max would not be there for interference this time around. She thought of that the whole walk home. Or, what she called home right now. Some dingy hotel room she's been paying for with just cash. Under the table. They only had her name. And a fake ID. Maxine always went for a camera and false identity when she arrived in a new time.

She shoved the key in, turned the lock, and pushed the door open. Allowing it to creak open on its hinges until the knob hit the wall with a dull thud. She stood on the threshold far too long. It felt as though something bad would happen if she went inside. Though, it was only her mind. The spiral that always came when her old life wriggled its way back. Triggered her.

She moved fast, slamming the door. Throwing the dead bolt and chain lock as well. Not that her current companion needed or was stopped by the simple machinations of a lock on a door. No, if they wanted in, they would get in. It was more symbolic than anything. Leave Me Alone, it said. She had many mix-tapes. A collection of time. Rhythm. Memory. She had one song in mind. Now bare feet padded over to the Walkman she's had for so long now. Max grabbed the headphones that had seen just as much wear. They went on, her back hit the floor. She stayed there. Pressed play. Wept.

Maxine curled in on herself then. Sobbed, spiraled, consoled herself both within and without her mind. Her thin arms hugged around her quivering form as the ceiling fan went around, around, around. This never felt fair. It was depriving, a unique kind of hell. Her companion, her friend did not have this pain. Though immortal, their life was one singular thread. A continuity. Maxine felt like a tree. Its root more specifically. Or a neglected ball of yarn. Something unmanageable. Untanglable. You would never be able to truly unwind it. It wasn't fair!

This isn't fair. Not fair, not fair. NOT FAIR.

The sun was set. And her current friend would be coming. She made a point to have separate dwelling though within the same building. They were next to each other. Neighbors. That was how they met. They might have heard her thoughts on the wind, felt it. She didn't know, and didn't bother to question how Vampires work when she can barely pin herself down.

Her face burned, she couldn't breathe. It felt like a vice was clamping down on her very being. It always felt so extensive yet suffocating to be this way. To be Maxine Caulfield. The woman out of time. At least so many people she told of her life called her that. Chloe called her that. Called her so many things in reverence. Adoration, love, hate, sadness. She was everything and nothing.

The door opened. Again, the fruitlessness of locks with them... Her head craned. There they were. How pathetic, how messy she must look. Still in her evergreen trench coat, golden beanie shoved beneath her head to serve a pillow. Legs splayed and kicking only moments before as she cried. The puffiness of her face must be amplified to them. Her reddened cheeks from distress.

"I'm fine. It's fine." A lie. She never could lie. And certainly not to a creature like them. They would know. So she remained laying on the floor, looking up at them, trying horribly to settle her breathing. It came in stutters.

I can say that I will not be putting a single cent into DE, instead I'll watch select LP's on YT to see just how bad the trashfire is. So far:

Chloe is utterly character assassinated. Between the her leaving Max which she wouldn't do to her "joking" about a threesome with some rando ass dude that would be stretch for pre-LiS1 ending Chloe once she was serious about Max (cause I know some would point to certain jokes she made in LiS1, but key detail is it being before they were together). But its equally not accurate and actually disgusting to be put towards post-LiS1 ending Chloe. On top of that the notion that she blames Max at all for what happened to Joyce is again disgusting. In absolutely no world would she ever do that. Then there's suddenly she's debatably flirting with Victoria, like WTF. Someone mentioned how they think that the writers are writing Rachel not Chloe and its exactly how it feels.

Amanda is completely lacking any chemistry with Max and comes across as a more femme, more sanitized, more mainstream appealing knockoff Chloe LGBT+ option. Worse is from what I've heard her trash ass actually insults Chloe and fuck her for that. Also from what I've heard you're forced to either pursue romance with her or Vinh who comes across as damn Nathan Prescott type, which is SOOOOOOOOOOOO damn disgusting. Like if I were playing this game I would want NEITHER of these, either give me my blue haired punk option or leave my Max single.

This is kind of a sub-bullet to the above but tumblr doesn't have that sort of thing mixed with Pricefield. But it majorly feels like they shoved out Chloe to shove in new shiny romance options and disgustingly think that LGBT+ is interchangeable. LGBT+ fans ofc are going to love Amanda and Max cause they're LGBT+, completely ignoring that no LGBT+ fans love Pricefield because of their chemistry and story shown in LiS1,2, and True Colors in the Bae route. 10 years of loving the iconic DontNod flagship LGBT+ pairing and Decknine seems to think they know best to the point of rejecting/erasing player's choice that went romantic Chloe + Bae. In fact they seem very much anti-Pricefield and anti-DontNod, which should've been a dis-qualifier to have them writing an LiS1 follow-up since that pair is at the center of LiS1 & Max's story. Decknine seemingly decided that they weren't onboard with Pricefield and then filled in the gaps to break them up in the dumbest most character assassinating way possible. Disrespecting player choice, disrespecting DontNod, and even fucking daring to touch DontNod's gift to fucking Pricefielders in LiS2-Bae by trying to tie the picture to Pricefield fighting and ultimately breaking up cause Decknine can't stop themselves from shitting on Pricefield, Chloe, and DontNod.

Safi seems interesting and so far probably my most liked new character, Moses is cool too.

Last thing cause its getting long: It truly feels like someone at Dontnod scratched a Decknine writer's damn car, leading to them trying to single-handledly tear apart every single piece of their canon and legacy. From their core characters to their core flagship LGBT+ pair to their core canon continuance for them. Its exactly why I refuse this trashfire game as mainline canon (a term I'm using akin to "the sacred timeline" in Loki), instead its just an AU branch within the multiverse of LiS. Not only is it not from Dontnod that already puts it in murky territory, but also Dontnod had stated that Max's story was done after LiS1. They then did a cameo in LiS2-Bae that showed they gave a shit about and supported Pricefield continuing forward together and happy. But Decknine also they betrayed everything of Dontnods including their core tenet of respecting player choices and "respect both endings" my damn ass. Funnily enough Decknine themselves in their efforts to fuck over Dontnod and Pricefield managed to add to DE being kicked out of the main canon due to their changing the LiS2-Bae picture to Blue haired Chloe. So Green haired Chloe is main canon and is continuing on with Max happily ever after as per DONTNOD's canon; blue hair Chloe is part of this trashfire AU branch under Decknine's inept hands.

Life is Strange: Double Exposure- Initial thoughts

So. I bought the early access version and want to give my initial thoughts on this game, having played Chapter 1 and some of Chapter 2.

PLEASE DO NOT READ AHEAD IF YOU DON'T WANT TO GET SPOILED!! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!

First of all, the biggy. The huge issue everyone on social media and who has seen spoilers/played the game is ranting about right now. Some people (actually, a lot of people) are even choosing to refund their purchase, or to not interact with the game at all anymore due to this...

Deck Nine have seemed to dismiss the player's major choice from the ending of LIS 1, where we either chose to sacrifice Chloe or Arcadia Bay. The way they chose to (pretty lazily) write in how Max and Chloe broke up- (via a letter from Chloe, if we chose the 'we broke up' dialogue option at the start of this game)?.....a pretty shitty decision, and, for the majority of fans, seemingly a deal-breaker. A lot of fans are also disappointed in Chloe seemingly not being in this game at all...but I'll write more on that in a sec.

As for my opinions so far...I'm not gonna lie, yes I was a little disappointed and I can fully appreciate why so many people are hating, but it was something I could personally look past (even though I chose bae over bay). Firstly, the trailers and teasers leading up to this early access release pretty much set my expectations for this going in- that Chloe would likely not be a main part of the storyline at all, and that the major choice made at the end of LIS 1 wouldn't be, either. Okay, yes, the writing connecting this game to LIS 1 could have been a lot better. But...

Max is much older, and the story is centred on her time at Caledon, with new friends, a new setting and a new storyline. I went into this game really excited about all of these new things, instead of having my heart set on a game centred around the continuation of LIS 1.

LIS 1- related things aside for a sec... I LOVE the new setting, it's really gorgeous, I love the design of the university and all the new characters we get to meet, the soundtrack is amazing, and I'm just having such a blast playing this game. It's so cosy. And it certainly keeps the charming, cringe-at-times but hilarious dialogue and vibe we get in every other Life is Strange game, and I love it so much. The characters are all pretty unique, too, and I am quickly growing attached to some (and already hating others...lmao). Max's new ability to switch between universes is really well-done. I love using it and seeing all the, often subtle, little differences that really add to the atmosphere and the story-telling of the game imo.

So...personally I am really enjoying Double Exposure so far!

Back to the whole 'Max and Chloe' thing... it feels as though the game could (take this with a pinch of salt) go a certain way in regards to Chloe. I have a theory (a VERY far-fetched one, but a theory, nonetheless). If there is a chance of them actually having Chloe be in this game in Chapters 3, 4 or 5, it might just redeem a bit of respect back from the fandom. I don't think they will, but something in the back of my mind, a slither of hope, if you will, is saying that they might just do this...

So, in Chapters 1 and 2, Max finds polaroids that neither her in the 'Dead World' or her in the 'Living World' have taken. Suggesting that there aren't only two alternate universes. Now, all of these other alternate universes may have only 'opened' to Max in the present, but surely they aren't only influenced by what has happened to Safi. What if an alternate universe, perhaps the one that these mysterious polaroids are from, had Max and Chloe's relationship (or breakup) happen differently? Who's to say that we won't get a sudden, unexpected change in a future chapter where Max and Chloe meet in an alternate reality, where they didn't break up, or where they did break up but differently, or something like that?...I don't fucking know. I'm rambling lmao. I don't want to give false hope. Maybe I'm clutching at straws atp. But in LIS 1, remember when they (Don'tNod) completely baffled us with the whole, sudden 'polaroid time-travel, William being alive and Chloe ending up disabled' reality? If Deck Nine really wanted to take that kind of route with this game, this would be a hell of a way to do it. Take a sudden turn in a non- early access chapter, have people fooled, and all that. But this is Deck Nine- they have a 'reputation', and maybe they just fucked up.

Unless I've missed a crucial point of LIS 1 or LIS: DE where this just would not be possible (?), I just can't help but think that there could still be a little bit of hope for the people who wanted to see Chloe, or who are immensely effected and disappointed by how her and Max's relationship played out according to this game.

Probably not gonna happen, though. Just food for thought. If nothing close to this happens then I'm still going to fully appreciate and love this game either way, as I already currently am.
