“Near,” You laughed airily, “You said we could have one night to do anything I wanted to do. I want a sleepover, what could go wrong?

“Do I have to wear this though?” He cocked an eyebrow and gestured towards his outfit.

Okay so maybe making him wear an arctic fox onesie was a little much but it was seriously adorable and besides, he needed to match you. Your brown bear onesie needed company.

“Absolutely!” You declared, “These are traditional sleepover outfits. Now, what to do first…”

You produced the sleepover list Near had made you write. He wanted you to write down all the things you were going to do tonight.

“Oh my god, shut up please.” You stood up and left the room only to return with a plethora of pillows, stuffed animals and blankets.

“Okay, have you ever built a pillow fort before?” You asked and chucked a pillow out him, he dodged but got hit square in the face with a panda PillowPet.

“No, never,” He adorably glared at the panda, “How do we do it?”

“I think it’s best if you just watch and follow along.” He nodded and you began stacking pillows, finding chairs and throwing blankets on top of them. Eventually the center of the room was a mountain of colorful cloth and chairs that you and Near admired.

You smiled and grabbed his hand, lifting up one part of blanket and crawling inside. You dropped his hand halfway in and made it entirely inside as he tried to follow you. He bumped a chair and suddenly the entire fort collapsed on top of you.

Laughing and pushing through the blankets in an attempt to move them out of the way, Near’s face appeared in front of you holding a pillow sheepishly.

“Sorry…”

“It’s okay, it’s okay!” You chuckled and shoved a Squish-mallow off your lap. “ What do you want to do next?”

Very quickly you had moved on to the pillow fight. It only lasted a little while because poor skinny Near was not good with exercise and he kept getting pummeled in the face and falling over.

Next you played Monopoly and of course Near was going to win. He was fantastic at the game. Then you convinced him to turn around because there was something he had to see. Near couldn’t figure out how suddenly you had triple the amount of money you used to. He didn’t realize cheating was an option.

Finally you moved onto the snack portion. One failed, burnt cake and a quick Target trip later and you had enough Sour Patch Kids to kill an elephant.

Lazing on the pillow and candy covered floor, you watched an old movie together and munched on Oreos.

“That was worth it, I suppose.” Near said.

“You’re glad you gave me a night of your life instead of working like you always do? I’m honored.” You said sarcastically.

“Yeah… It was nice…” He gave you a small smile and you gave him one back.

“Good. I’m glad you enjoyed yourself. We could do it again sometime.”

But you and Matt finally found a sliver of time that you guys could have a small date at the house. Just a simple movie night with snacks, and neither of you complained, just wanting to be with the other for as long as they could.

“Ok, your pick tonight, what movie are we watching?” Matt asked as he jumped over the back of the couch and settled next to you, arm around your shoulders as you placed your head on his chest.

You tapped your chin as you thought for a moment, smiling as you looked up at the man next to you. “Tangled!”

Matt shook his head as he laughed. You always chose Tangled if the offer was on the table and he never complained, finding a sense of comfort from the movie ever since you two got together.

“Tangled! Oh my god!” Chris said, rushing over to the other side of the couch, grabbing a blanket and getting comfy, already having his shoes off and eyes glued to the screen. You shook your head as you laughed at him, Nick soon invested as well as he sat down next to you and stole some of your blanket. Nate shook his head as he went to the fridge and got a Pepsi for himself and Chris.

“Ok, nice seeing you guys, now leave. This isn’t “date night plus the guys!”, this is date night with me and my beautiful girlfriend! Now fuck off!” Matt hissed out as Chris nodded along, yet not making eye contact once as for his eyes were still connected to the screen in front of him.

“But you have pizza! And plus i bet y/n doesn’t mind, right?” Nate asked after as he looked at you with wide eyes, full of hesitation and hope, slowly grabbing a piece of pizza from the box on the table.

Laughing at the situation, you shook your head as you leant into Matt’s embrace more. “The more the merrier!”

“Thank god, I’m already comfortable and I forgot how good this movie was.” Nick said as he leaned onto you for support as he grabbed chocolate that was already on the table.

Sighing, Matt buried his face into your neck, whining in annoyance as his brothers and best friend sat in the room, interrupting something he specifically told them not to.

“Love? what’s wrong?” You whispered at him, rubbing the back of his head as he nuzzled deeper into your neck and wrapped you up tighter in his embrace.

“I’m sorry. This isn’t how this was supposed to go. It was supposed to be only us, but these idiots always need to be involved with whatever the others have going on.” Matt whispered to you, placing a gentle kiss on your jaw as you smiled down at him.

Matt sighed once again, and took in the scene. His younger brother on the edge of his seat, intrigued with a movie he’s seen how many times with his best friend next to him. The oldest leaning against you as he snacked on chocolate and made little comments at how hot Flynn was, which made all of you roll your eyes at one point. And finally you, snuggled up under the blanket with him, drowning in his hoodie you had slipped on earlier while he held you tightly.

Sighing, Matt melted into the couch cushions and placed a kiss on your head, accepting what has become of the date he planned.

Summary → Nate doesn't like the new addition to the group, that is you. You don't know why he hates you so much.

The jungle was thick with humidity, the air dense and oppressive as you followed behind Nate, Sully, and Chloe. You wiped the sweat from your brow, heart pounding in sync with your footsteps as the group pressed forward, deeper into the unknown. The treasure you were after—a long-lost artifact hidden in these remote ruins—was tantalizingly close. But the closer you got, the more unbearable Nate’s attitude seemed to become.

He hadn’t liked you from the start, though you never understood why. He was all charm with Sully and Chloe, offering smirks and clever quips to lighten the tension. But with you, it was different. Cold. Distant. Sometimes even downright hostile.

“I don’t know why you’re even here,” Nate muttered under his breath as you climbed a steep rock face. His words were sharp, and your heart clenched, but you kept your mouth shut, refusing to let him get under your skin. You were here for the same reason as him—because you were good at what you did.

You ignored him, focusing on the climb. Chloe shot you a glance, eyes full of silent sympathy, but she didn’t say anything. Not this time.

The group trudged forward for hours, trekking through the thick forest and scaling treacherous cliffs. Each step felt heavier, not from the physical exertion but from the weight of Nate’s constant jabs. Every time you tried to make a suggestion, he cut you off. Every time you offered help, he dismissed you.

It wasn’t always this way. When Sully had first introduced you to Nate and the team, you thought you’d get along. After all, you admired him—his wit, his skill, his determination. But somewhere along the line, something changed, and now it seemed like everything you did grated on him.

Eventually, you reached the ruins. The ancient stone structure was weathered and worn, vines creeping up its surface, but it was magnificent. A sense of awe washed over you, but it didn’t last long.

“Careful where you step,” Nate snapped as you moved closer to the entrance. “Wouldn’t want you setting off a trap.”

Your jaw clenched, but you didn’t respond. He made you feel like you were an outsider, like you didn’t belong. It wasn’t fair.

And then it happened. One insult too many.

“I don’t know why Sully keeps bringing you along,” Nate muttered, barely loud enough for the others to hear. “You’re nothing but dead weight. Slowing us down all the time.”

That was it. The final straw.

You stopped in your tracks, every ounce of patience drained. You turned toward Nate, your voice shaky with hurt and anger. “What’s your problem with me, Nate? I’ve done nothing but pull my weight here. If you have a problem, spit it out.”

He turned to face you, eyes hard. “I don’t need someone watching my back who can’t handle the pressure.”

The words stung, cutting deeper than you expected. You could feel Chloe and Sully’s eyes on you, the tension in the air palpable.

“I’m done,” you said, voice quiet but firm. “I’m not staying here to be your punching bag.”

Without waiting for a response, you turned and walked away, your heart pounding in your chest. You heard Sully call after you, but you didn’t stop. The tears prickled at your eyes, and you were determined not to let anyone see.

You sat alone by a river, the sound of rushing water doing little to ease the ache in your chest. You weren’t sure how long you’d been sitting there—long enough for the sun to dip low in the sky. Long enough for the frustration to simmer into a quiet sadness.

What had you done to make Nate hate you so much? You were good at what you did, and you’d never asked for anything more than to be treated with respect. Yet, every time you tried to show your worth, he was there, tearing you down.

The sound of footsteps broke through your thoughts, and you looked up to see Nate standing a few feet away. He wasn’t smirking. He wasn’t wearing that infuriating cocky expression. In fact, he looked…apologetic?

You didn’t say anything. You weren’t even sure if you could without the lump in your throat rising up again.

Nate cleared his throat, shoving his hands into his pockets as he looked down at you. “I, uh… I screwed up.”

You didn’t respond, but you didn’t turn away either. You were curious to hear what he had to say.

“I shouldn’t have said those things,” he continued, his voice quieter now. “It wasn’t fair to you. I just… I don’t know.”

You raised an eyebrow. “You don’t know?”

He sighed, running a hand through his hair. “Look, I’m not good at this stuff, okay? I didn’t mean half the crap I said to you.”

“Well, it sure felt like you did,” you muttered, looking away.

He took a step closer, sitting down on a nearby rock. “You’re good at what you do. I know that. Hell, you’re better than I am at some of this stuff. I guess that’s part of the problem.”

You frowned, looking back at him. “What are you talking about?”

“I don’t know,” he admitted again, frustration evident in his voice, though this time it seemed directed at himself. “I’ve always been used to working with Sully or Chloe, people I know, people I trust. And you…you came in, and suddenly everything was different. I felt like I wasn’t in control anymore.”

You stared at him, trying to process his words. “So, you’ve been treating me like crap because you’re…what? Intimidated?”

Nate laughed, but there was no humor in it. “Yeah, something like that.”

You blinked, surprised by his honesty. You’d never considered that his behavior might be rooted in his own insecurities. “You could’ve just talked to me, you know. Instead of being an ass.”

He winced at that. “Yeah, I realize that now.”

For a moment, there was only the sound of the river between you. Then, Nate spoke again, his voice softer this time. “I don’t hate you. I’ve never hated you. I just didn’t know how to deal with…this. With you being as good as you are.”

You shook your head, a small, incredulous smile tugging at your lips. “You’re stupid.”

He chuckled, the tension between you easing slightly. “Yeah, I am. But I’m sorry. Really.”

You took a deep breath, feeling some of the hurt start to fade. “I appreciate that. But you’ve got a lot of making up to do.”

Nate grinned, that familiar spark of mischief back in his eyes. “I’ll start by not insulting you every five minutes. Deal?”

You laughed, shaking your head. “Deal.”

The two of you sat in companionable silence for a while, the earlier tension dissipating. It wasn’t quite friendship yet, but it was a start. And as Nate offered you a hand to help you up, you couldn’t help but feel that maybe, just maybe, things would be different from now on.

Christmas With The Wammy Boys

Wrote this on Christmas day when I was feelin' the holiday spirit vibes and you're getting it now lol

This Christmas would be different, for one particular reason.

Watari has hereby refused to keep buying presents for L to give you. He’s vowed to stop decorating the tree for him and setting up Christmas lights in patterns intricate enough to win competitions. No more…at least for this year.

“I’ve given you a break between cases for a reason, L. Spend time with them.”

L is the KING of practical gifts. Remember that vacuum cleaner you mentioned needing a while ago? It’s showing up under the tree with a bow on it.

“Oh, what’s this?”

“Detergent.”

“…”

“You said we needed detergent.”

He means well, and he really did put a lot of thought into your gifts. He thought about everything you said you needed from the last few months and went out of his way to go to a store and get it for you.

Because of that there’s no way you can even feel disappointed. Besides, you’re not receiving pointless shit that you don’t know what to do with. And you did need detergent.

Man’s tall. He can hang Christmas lights without a ladder.

He also puts the star on the tree.

And runs into all the mistletoe you hang everywhere.

“It’s an excuse to kiss or whatever!”

“All it seems to be doing is giving me a mouthful of leaves whenever I walk through a doorway.”

He doesn’t really know how to react when he opens presents.

Mello

Mello’s family used to celebrate Christmas diligently. And even though he doesn’t have the best of memories connected to his family, the Christmas season has always been a time when his family would mend itself, at least for a while, and he could focus on simply being a kid with presents and food and joy.

It kind of catches you off guard when he’s so passionate about Christmas, but in a good way.

Considers “Die Hard” a Christmas movie

He tries so hard to get you something you’d like, but the poor thing honestly isn’t that great at gift giving.

He probably overthinks it too and stresses himself out so much before resorting to a gift card.

And he’d feel extra shitty if you get him a really sentimental or expensive gift. Like one time you got him this really sick pocket knife that was coated with matt black and engraved with gold on the blade.

But other times…you get burnt out too.

“Okay, so I’m really sorry”

“Me too.”

“But I couldn’t really think of anything good enough for you this year.”

“Yep, same.”

“So I got you this gift card”

“ME TOO—“

The time you spend together is better than any gift card though.

He’s a competitive decorator…

Like…COMPETITIVE. He tries to outdo anyone who lives nearby. One time he blew a fuse both literally and figuratively trying to win a made up Christmas lights competition with the neighbors.

If you think Mello isn’t going to be drinking an entire store’s stock of hot chocolate, you are dead wrong.

“I’m getting into the spirit of the holiday”

“Do not tell me you wouldn’t down a gallon of hot chocolate on any other regular day. This ain’t special.”

Matt

Christmas is a very casual occasion for Matt. He never celebrated it and he doesn’t mind continuing that. He’ll really only contribute if you want to celebrate it with him.

Shit at wrapping presents, but a master at picking out great ones.

He remembers a surprising amount of things you tell him.

“Woah, is this (insert thingy here)!? Didn’t I only mention this once? And weren’t you on your phone the whole time I was talking!?”

“What, you think I wasn’t listening?”

He’ll go along with whatever you want to do, honestly. Going sledding? Sure, no probs. Building snowmen? ‘Kay, Matt’s game. He’s making a snow Mello.

But the time Matt likes the best is when you’re cuddled up after these chilling activities by the fireplace while watching a movie. Hot chocolate may or may not be available, depending on how much Mello has already had. If not, coffee is a fine substitute.

This is Matt’s preferred time to give you your gifts and, although he doesn’t require it, he’ll be delighted if you give him one as well. Games for his console is always a safe bet, but giving him something sentimental will always warm his heart.

Just the thought of you going above and beyond for him when he told you that you didn’t have to…it really puts it into perspective just how much he means to you.

“It’s a necklace! Now, I wasn’t really sure if you like jewelry but I made sure the beads were your favorite colors and — oh, look! — I picked out a charm from that game you said you were obsessed with as a kid and…are you okay, babe? Are you…are you crying??”

“Yeah…yeah, I uh…here, can you put it on me?”

Ok so…hear me out — dressing him up as a snowman.

Like with the white hair and all it would be adorable.

Of course, he might not think so. But if you bribe him. He might just come around to your side.

“Please.”

“No. I am not your doll.”

“I’ll buy you that new train set you liked for Christmas.”

“I am now your doll.”

Honestly you might have to bribe him to do a lot of things.

He kinda gets away with not getting you a present by claiming that all the things he’s done for you count as a present.

“I didn’t have to put on this fake carrot nose. But I did. I think that’s a suitable gift.”

“Fine, but at least let me take pictures. No one can recognize you with all the props and makeup.”

“…………….fine.”

Christmas isn’t always about bribes and reluctance, though. Near really likes setting up his toys in the nativity scene display thing, so that’s something he’ll do willingly.

“And who’s that as Mary?”

“Iron Man.”

You can tell he appreciates everything you get him because he spends hours playing with your gifts afterwards.

He also takes a few hours to open like three gifts. Just because as soon as he opens one gift he likes to take it out of the packaging, read the instructions, set it up, and mess with it for at least thirty minutes before moving on to the next gift.

It’s a process.
