the leverage team would have had a games night… once. everyone cheated so much and in such increasingly extreme ways that all mentions of monopoly are banned in their headquarters (this makes talking about marks who monopolize the market very confusing)
#leverage#nate wouldn’t cheat but he’d be by far the most annoying still. like he’d conduct a whole Scheme to win and give a little monologue wheneve#he made a good move and everyone would want to kill him#parker woukd obvs be stealing money & cards and she’d move their pieces and swap their stuff#but also she’d try to use her turn to rob the bank#sophie would use neurolinguistic programming and dominate the board w properties#which somehow parker would literally never land on and that’s incredibly suspicious but none of them really know how she could possibly be#manipulating that fact? it’s logically impossible bc they’re watching her roll the die and move the piece and sophie knows which properties#she owns so it makes no sense. but parker is parker and she simply will not be caught (even by sophie’s properties)#hardison has studied monopoly theory (yes there are math theories on how to play monopoly) and /tries/ to abide by them but again. sophie i#manipulating him and parker is stealing from him (and sometimes oddly enough *for* him. new money ends up in his bank somehow) so it’s hard#so eventually he resorts to cheating like Everyone Fucking Else and does pretty well bc he rlly does know what sets he wants etc.#eliot is genuinely playing normally. no cheating no math stuff no schemes.#but he’s just sitting there fuming the entire time bc they’re all very obviously messing with the game and he Knew this was gonna happen bu#goddamn hardison & parker especially know how to get on his nerves (often purposely)#he calms down by making some snacks and. resorting to also cheating lol.#leverageposting

I had the pleasure of drawing @jenkil as my recipient for this holiday exchange! It's a joy to share a fandom with you and I deeply admire your way with words, whether you use them to provide thoughtful meta for Generation Kill or to tell me off for my cocktail experiments. Happy holidays!
#hbowarsanta24#generation kill#nate#bradnate#(shush it's implied)#you mentioned liking the idea of them reconnecting later in life#which gave me an IDEA#so here we are a frustrating number of attempts later#with my camera roll filled with awkward selfies where I pretend to read a post card

Nate played Balatro the other day and while I missed a bit & still have absolutely zero fucking clue how the game is played, it did inspire me nonetheless.

considering nate & maggie are said to have worked together sometimes, collaborating to discover art fraud pre-leverage… i’d like to imagine that maggie has at least heard of the leverage team members in passing. she wouldn’t recognise them in a crowd, but she’s familiar with big names in the art theft & forgery world. she’d have SOME expectations of what they were like. and then in the second david job, she’s meeting them and they’re. them. like-
what she knows about parker: worlds greatest thief, seems more interested in banks but certainly an art thief, too. nate says she has a reputation for being "insane".
what she assumes about parker: probably does some great grifting to get into those museums and vaults, been a world class thief for ages so she’d be in her late 30s at least by season 1. dangerous, formidable, scary, do not approach.
what she very quickly learns about parker: is a duckling who has imprinted on her
#leverageposting#leverage#parker leverage#maggie leverage#maggie collins#you know?#idk what she’d know/think about sophie. i’d like to hear that. what nate has & hasn’t mentioned abt soph.#word of god is that nate & eliot lowkey teamed up sometimes pre-leverage. idk if he’d say that to maggie but she might know that#eliot spencer is a rather infamous hitter & maybe that nate suspiciously doesn’t think he’s as evil as everyone says#alec hardison is a fairly new player in the art theft scene. previously was more just stealing money online or using peoples credit cards.#but more recently he’s apparently stolen the occasional art piece or artifact (jobs like the one he was trying to do in rashomon)#his jobs seem… kinda funny? not a danger like parker & eliot. she doesn’t get the computer stuff but it makes her a little paranoid to hear#what people can do online these days. it’s a weird world… wide web.

current level of special interest: spent the evening thinking way too hard about a tie-in card game that's really just a reskin of a different card game and only exists to be a kind of goofy gimmick but is also Deeply existentially horrifying if you pause to consider it. which we did.
#for the people who came to nate's time travel party this is not the tie-in card game that we own it's a different one#the conceit is that all the player characters are from mutually incompatible timelines and can only exist if certain conditions are met#and you're competing to make sure things play out so you continue to exist but as a result you end up erasing the other players#it's a little fucked up#they made up a bunch of OCs with backstories that range from basic to compelling to viscerally horrifying#and then also Verne Brown is there#or not. depending on whose timeline wins

THE SEVEN UP TABLE HAS TURNED INTO THE MONOPOLY DEAL TABLE BECAUSE OF NATHAN WORDS CANNOT DESCRIBE THE EMOTIONS IM GOING THROUGH ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
#mikksy mentioned last year that some boys got together to play seven up (him stenny lars and to be assumed sometimes the other finns joined)#but to know woth the departure of so many boys from that group nathan filled in and taught them monopoly deal ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜#that is so fucking funny#wdym nathan got all the finns and honourable finn to play along ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜#i know nathan didnt mention mikksy but considering luosty loves sitting next to mikksy#and when they disembark mikksy tends to always be near luosty and nate#it can only be assumed hes a witness to the card shenanigans too#i hope they bully him into playing too#i need all the finns together#honestly knowing how competitive he is and how much hes attached to nathan it would not surprise me if we hear his exploits soon#monopoly deal... finn edition... and nathan...#living the dream bud#im sorry the plane is just the big boys playing poker and betting house mortgages versus the finns + nathan playing monopoly deal#the salty spitoon and weenie hut jrs#i say this as if any form of monopoly doesnt destroy friendships#unfortunately nathan did not think the guys would listen to him and turn his tricks onto himself#oh bud ive got news for you#NINE GAMESSSSSS

Something that occurred to me this time…
… Is that Eliot deliberately brings Hardison w/ him to confront Moreau the first time. He tells Nate that he and Hardison will do it (don't worry, I also Love Hardison taking the moment to be like 'hey, are you okay?' bc those two usually express themselves through bickering so much that it clearly telegraphs just how off Eliot is being that Hardison is dropping the usual banter to be serious).
Which for one thing, says something about Eliot's confidence in Hardison in general, but also, like… Yes, Parker's probably not the choice for that introduction, it's not her style, but Nate or Sophie could also have played the part. He could have tried to go alone. But he pulls Hardison.
Obviously he's not trying to put Hardison in danger, he makes it quite clear in all other scenarios that he does not tolerate Hardison in danger (visual cues in The Gone Fishin' Job my beloveds), the others are well aware of the fact that he's Done Some Shit and are equally unaware of his connection to Moreau. And to be honest, I can't pinpoint an exact reason why I think he might have done it, chosen Hardison to be the one who finds out first. Maybe he suspected Moreau would underestimate Hardison, making him safer (relatively, if course), then someone like Nate or Sophie. Maybe he thought it would be best to have Hardison's tech skills as back up. Maybe he thought Hardison would roll w/ the punches the best. Maybe he just wanted Hardison there for morale.
I don't know, but it's a moment that didn't really occur to me the first time, but I think is actually quite meaningful in a more emotional way.
#Leverage#and of course he's right Hardison handles it w/ aplomb and only gets mad after#I do think Parker wouldn't have been the right choice for that#just that specific situation in general#Moreau's clearly significantly not very respectful of women so either her or Sophie might have to do a more dangerous grift#I mean it doesn't go well for the Italian#Nate meanwhile is Always a wild card in his own way#but I've said it before and I'll say it again that in their own way I think Nate and Eliot have one of the most familial relationships#they mesh together in a very specific way that they don't talk about but becomes clear over the course of the show#the father/son the other never really got to have#and I do think that being suddenly confronted by that revelation combined w/ that relationship#would have thrown Nate for a loop enough to possibly destabilise things#but Hardison and him have had to work in the fly before#Hardison is one of the most versatile of team in regards to characters#he adapts quickly when it's needed#I think in a way Eliot makes a bet Hardison will roll w/ the con until they're out#will be able to not ask questions and avoid having too much of Moreau's attention#plus it will be more believable to Moreau#Hardison can handle it until they're out and then he can get mad and they'll deal w/ it#also I think Hardison helps stabilise him#while I do think people ascribe too much of Eliot's development to exclusively Parker and Hardison (esp Parker)#they absolutely do play an important role#and I think Eliot feels comfortable taking a risk bc he knows Hardison will keep his head and be ready to come up w/ something#Literal Crime Family
