Don't get used to it. He's not staying with your bum ass forever

Just wait until Floyd leaves. I'm putting you in the deep fryer
Okay, you got the critter. You can clean it after we've finished the project. That way, you can take your sweet time with the vermin
*my last sentence sounds condescending as I bat my eyes* Can we please get back to the project? -🧀@nashi-brie (permission to pursue Floyd romantically?)

Birthday Celebrations at Restaurant Zén
This year marks an important milestone for me as it is the first time that I am celebrating my birthday with my little girl who arrived during Christmas last year. For my celebrations this year, my wife surprised me with a visit to the only Three Michelin Star restaurant in Singapore that we have not tried: Restaurant Zen.
The unconventional restaurant is renowned for pushing culinary boundaries with high quality seafood produce from Japan, delivering precision and warmth in its signature dishes such as the Råraka, French toast and Onion Soup. The restaurant is celebrated for its consistency and professionalism, maintaining its Three Star Michelin award and receiving a rank of 27th in Asia’s Top 50 Restaurant List in 2023.
Our dining experience at Restaurant Zen began with a visit to The Kitchen at Level 1 where we were served canapes and introduced to the fresh ingredients that will be going into our dinner for the evening.
Canapes served at The Kitchen included:
Raraka Kalix Lojrom.
Blini chutoro, bafun uni, coffee.
Croustade manga 'mala', sea buckthorn.
Vol-au-vent sweetbread, long pepper.
Gunkan suckling pig, Zen reserve caviar.
Every bite is exquisite, providing a glimpse of the grand meal that we will be enjoying for the evening, with a sense of balance and sophistication earned through years of experimentation and fine tuning to perfection.
Next, we were guided to The Dining Room at Level 2 to enjoy our mains for the evening. And this is where the fun truly begins.
Tataki sakura masu, konatsu dashi, wild trout roe: A fantastic starter to the repertoire of mains with fresh salmon and wild trout roe blending seamlessly with the dashi.
Mollusks scallop, hamaguri, hotaru ika, Jaspnese barigoule, uni: A seafood extravaganza that could only be described as divine. It is a dish that I regret trying as I will keep dreaming of it for years to come.
Chawanmushi smoked oyster, fermented white asparagus, Zen reserve caviar: A milky custard concoction that breaks the conventional view of a chawanmushi, with smoked oysters and white asparagus accentuating the milky notes in the dish.
Onion almond & liquorice: The signature onion soup with a complex deep flavor profile that resonates with you on a whole different level, providing a familiar sense of warmth and comfort, similar to the famous scene in Ratatouille involving Anton Ego with his childhood flashback.
Kinki teardrop peas, kinome, kohlrabi, Kujo negi, garum: The only dish of the evening which I thought might require a bit more fine tuning as the teardrop peas overtook the Kinki fish as the main star of the dish.
Lamb glangal & vin jaunce sabayon, ramson, morel: The way this dish is prepared and served is simply breathtaking, resembling an afternoon grill in the garden during spring time. The way the dish plays with all of your senses to deliver happiness in every bite is the reason why Restaurant Zen will continue to dominate top culinary awards for years to come.
French Toast 'Grande Tradition 2008': This black beauty is the perfect marriage between truffle and aged vinegar to deliver a decadent bite with a flavor so complex and unique that it is forever imprinted into your palate.
Sorbet cucumber & shiso, spruce: A refreshing palate cleanser to gently cushion our taste buds for the eventual end to the evening.
Tarte tatin nashi pepper, celeriac, woodruff, lingoberry: An excellent dessert which plays with sweet and savory profiles to create a memorable finish to our stay in The Dining Room.
And with that, we are guided to The Living Room at Level 3 to for some sweet delights to send us off on a pleasant note:
Muskmelon & Manzanilla. Kinkan, honey vingear & clove. Miyazaki mango & yuzu.
Waffle Party served with Tea, milk, honey.
As a final surprise, a small donut cake was served with macarons to celebrate my birthday.
And we come to the question of the day yet again: Is Restaurant Zen deserving of its place as one of the top restaurants in the world? Is it worthy of your precious calories?
It comes as no surprise that the answer is a thousand times yes. Every single detail was impeccable, from the service and the music to the decor and the menu. I had to nitpick really hard to find flaws and it is truly a wonder what the team at Restaurant Zen is able to build: a modern, edgy culinary experience that is able to blend fresh ingredients into unconventional dishes that still speaks to our heart, providing a sense of warmth and comfort which made me feel like I have returned home for a cozy meal with the family.
Special thanks to my dear wife for making my birthday this year extra special.

These Names Are Raining Hard Like the Storm from Earlier
(Case 5, part 6)
Maybe it's just me, but the way she says Susato is endearing.
Localization Team Terrorizes Local Translator with Laudably Tactful Titles.
...Pop. They literally called the poor pawnbroker Pop. And his last name is Windibank.
Well, I get the pun. "Popping" something at a pawnbrokery is dropping it off there, presumably to get it back later. Also, he's a middle-aged man, so it's like calling him "Pops". But still. I thought it was brutal enough that his last name was "windy bank". I mean, sure, he's a bit round-ish, but saying he's a bank full of wind is a bit rude, you know. And now they straight popped him off. Like a balloon. He's dead. This is the British equivalent of "Deid Mann" I swear.
Well, to be fair, his name in Japanese was Hatch. I don't think it was specified what his last name was, or if that was his last name and they never gave his first. I thought it was pretty clever how it referenced a "hatch" as in Iris' cat flaps or the peephole, but it's also kinda like "hatchet" as in an axe... which in "give the hatchet" is also another way to say he's dead. Damn.
Now these names are a bit clever. Skulkin is clearly a play on "skulking", or sneaking around, since they're "profeshnal baddies". Nash is also a word in Edinburgh dialect meaning "to run, get away". It also sounds close to nashi, or Japanese for pear. Ringo is a reference to the famed Western outlaw Johnny Ringo. It's also the Japanese word for apple, ringo.
Btw, their names weren't based on their fruits in the JP version. They were Nemmy and Tally Tinpillar, where "Tinpillar" is a mutation of chinpira, meaning "hoodlum, thug". I think Nemmy is from the phrase nemimi ni mizu, which is literally "water in sleeping ears", an idiom meaning "a great surprise". Tally may be like in futari, meaning "two people", since he's usually the second one to respond. Or it could be like the grammatical suffix tari for continuous action, though it only applies to verbs, so I'm not sure there.
And in the JP, they call Gregson "Uze no aniki" or "Big Bruv Uze". Like "uzee", as in the slang version of uzai, meaning "annoying". Usually it's translated into a coarser swear in other more mature-rated mediums. Use your imagination.
Your Lordship, no! ...Well, actually yes, he is a little sulky. But poor Mr. Gregson. I actually like this guy, ya know.
--
I got plenty to cover tonight. Please be patient and tune in for more on my blog. Thankee.

27, 32 for Veld. 14, 17 for Vincent. 31, 42 for both.
[For the Random Character Asks game.]
27. Their guilty pleasure?
Veld really likes sleeping in. He really likes sleeping in. Especially if he should be doing something he doesn't want to do. He would stay in bed until noon if he could. He can't, of course, because he's Veld and that means he has things to do and places to be and fires to put out—work-based or otherwise—but every now and then, when he's pretty sure he doesn't have too much to do the next day, he'll intentionally turn all his alarms off, put his phone on silent, and wait for something or someone else to wake him before he bothers getting up. He always gets ready in a flash, grumbling about how he's running late and has things to do and so-and-so expected a call at eight, but it is a conscious decision on his part to do it, and he keeps doing it. Most of the people in his life know what's up, but they all play along anyway. Whatever makes him feel better.
32. Something guaranteed to make them smile/laugh?
Veld doesn't overtly express humor very often, but he's super weak to schadenfreude. He'll laugh until he has a stitch in both sides watching people get scared when there isn't actually any danger. Pranks, scarehouses, you know what I mean—that kind of thing cracks him up every time.
14. Most heroic moment?
Vincent's most heroic moment, in my opinion, is when he physically held Omega down to keep it from escaping the planet, and literally cracked it open to make sure the portion of the Lifestream it had stolen came back to ground. He definitely had no idea whether he would actually die on reentry, continue to exist in a perpetual state of atomized pain, or eventually regenerate Minerva knows where—much less whether he would regenerate as himself, physically, or just be stuck in Chaos' shape forever—but he did it. Badass. I love that guy.
17. Quotes, songs, poems, etc. that I associate with them
I have way too many songs I associate with Vincent, although there's a pretty solid sampling in the Nibelheim Doom Triangle playlist.
And here's a handful of my top Vincent songs not included in that playlist:
Little Lion Man — Mumford and Sons — Weep for yourself, my man, you'll never be what is in your heart / Weep, little lion man, you're not as brave as you were at the start / Rate yourself and rake yourself, take all the courage you have left / Waste it on fixing all the problems that you made in your own head
Whatever I Fear — Toad the Wet Sprocket — Did we expect these things to change / By waking up and suddenly there they are? / And all I need's a startin' place / And nothing ever seemed so hard
Factories — Autoheart — I am bride and groom in a darkened room / Marrying anguish with one last wish / Will you and I make a breakthrough? / I have visited factories to see / The best way to put together me / Will you and I ever feel brand new?
Your Biggest Mistake — Ellie Goulding — Wipe the mud spray from your face / Stop the engine, stop pretending / Wipe the mud spray from your face / Stop the engine, yeah, stop pretending / That you're still breathing
All At Sea — Richard Walters — Hold me, fold me up in your arms / Faster, my love, sinking and gone / Hold me, my love / Telling me "Don't be afraid" / "Wouldn't you want me to swim?" / "Wouldn't you want me to stay?"
31. If they had a tumblr what would it look like?
I'm gonna be honest, neither Vincent nor Veld would have social media unless they were somehow forced into it by someone extremely important to them, and then they would never use it. Two empty accounts.
42. Three comfort items?
Veld: A Queen's Blood championship medal that Vincent left behind (along with all his other stuff, they lived together) when he went to Nibelheim, a ponybead bracelet that Felicia made for him at school when she was 6, and his old director's lapel pin from before he left the Turks.
Vincent: Unfortunately Vincent doesn't really have many belongings anymore, so his pool of options is very limited. Postpostcanon, Vincent keeps everyone else's stuff in various safehouses he's put together all over the planet, and at that point his comfort items include the Fenrir ornament from Cloud's pauldron, a string of beads that Nanaki used to wear in his mane, and the crown off the last Cait Sith unit, who shut down roughly one minute after Reeve passed away and couldn't be reactivated.

Content warning: Detailing of nightmarish descriptions and blood
Raphael didn't know where he was. Only that it was an unending valley of white. Distantly, he could hear voices but he couldn’t for the life of him make out what was being said.
“Mori mo iyagaru…”
The words were like a storm cloud hanging over the weight, carrying the distorted and slow tune through the empty nothingness like frost on the wind. The sensations around him felt like cold raindrops hitting his bare skin, bouncing off shell and muscle both as the downpour covered him and almost drowned him. He knew he should be doing something, but he couldn’t figure out what that something was supposed to be.
“Bon kara saki-nya…”
That voice. Haunting melodic and warming him just as much as the air chilled him. He looked around but couldn’t see where the singing was coming from. Whoever it was, Raphael felt the need to find them and so he kept walking. Each step felt like he was wading through quicksand, and each breath was like a mouthful of water filling his lungs and making him so delirious that he just wanted to sleep.
“Yuki mo chirasuki-shi… ko mo naku shi…”
That voice again! It wouldn’t let him sleep, like a siren calling out to a sailor to dash his ship on the rocks and doom his crewmates to a cold and dark sleep. Is that why Raphael felt so tired? Maybe that was the siren's purpose, and that was why he was so cold and so slow, and he wanted to deny himself. But the song went on.
“Bon ga kita-tote nani ureshi-karo. Katabira wa nashi, obi was nashi…”
He had to find where it was coming from! He started to run, but it was like he was in a dream and every step was slower than the last. Was this a dream? Or was everything else a dream? All the things that he tried to think of as they slipped through his fingers like sand and were lost to him in the wind. What were they? Who were they? He could hear their voices but couldn’t place them to faces, only feelings. Love, protect, shelter. Love, protect, shelter…
“Kono ko you naku mori wo ba irjiru.”
Love, protect, shelter. Love, protect, shelter. Love, protect, shelter.
“Mori mo ichi-nichi yaseru-yara…”
Love, protect, shelter. Love, protect, shelter. Love, protect, shelter!
“Hayo-mo yuki-taya kono zaisho koete.”
He was getting tired. So very tired. But he had to keep going. He had to find the ones he loved and the one he’d protect and the ones he'd shelter. They were close, so close he could feel their hands in his. Feel their bodies against his! He could feel them getting closer and closer, yet still they managed to keep away from him. He just needed to get back to them, but he wasn’t even sure who he was!
“Mukou ni mieru wa, oya no uchi…”
He saw something and a part of him got excited thinking it was one of the ones he’d lost. But another part of him told him that he didn't know who this was, but it most certainly wasn’t one he was looking for. Was he the one singing? No, not that either. He was just sitting there, back to Raphael, not moving.
“Excuse me?” Raphael called, but the figure didn't turn to meet him. “Do you know where we are? Hello?”
Raphael reached him after what seemed an eternity and put a hand on the stranger's shoulder. Raphael didn't even see the stranger turn around; one minute, his back was to the mutant and the next they were face to face, except the other didn't really have a face. It was a skeleton, charred black, his empty eyes staring into Raphael and his jaw slack without muscles to hold it in place. The skeleton slumped into Raphael’s touch, turned to dust and fell apart, the cloud of black swallowed Raphael whole.
“Anata ga hitori de iru… you are… alone…”
Raphael felt as if he were choking on ash now instead of water. The ground beneath his feet fell apart and took him with it into a sudden black abyss to contrast the white that had recently engulfed him. Looking up revealed quickly fading light, and looking down was nothing but a dark pit, hot and sticky on him like tar as he fell and fell and fell and suddenly, he wasn’t falling anymore, but he couldn’t remember landing either. The black remained.
The sound around Raphael was warped like he was underwater, that song playing all around him and again with no clear singer. Raphael tried to run again but looking down he had no feet to run with! It was like the tar was slowly swallowing him whole. No— no no no no no NO NO NO NO!
When he opened his eyes, he was in a field, like an island surrounded once more by the white ocean of emptiness. He looked down and instead of tar found grass beneath his feet. He twisted his toes into the softness of the earth. He closed his eyes and gave the softest of churrs as he felt the wind blowing through his mask, taking in the coolness of the air. When he opened his eyes, he was still in the field, but it was distorted by war. Blood stained the grass red, and the air was putrid with smoke that choked the very life from Raphael’s chest. The blood kept rising in a steady flow as blurred silhouettes were cut and slaughtered before Raphael in a raging bloodbath. The blood kept rising and there was nowhere to go— and then it swallowed Raphael and though he tried to swim it was too thick and when he could hold his breath no longer, the taste of iron flooded his mouth and his senses and—
He fell to his knees gasping, back in the beautiful green field as if nothing had happened. Like not a drop of blood had ever tainted the sacred place. He looked over himself and saw no red beyond what was normal, but the taste in his mouth still lingered. Instead of those violent silhouettes engaged in an unyielding battle, he saw only two humans. A tall silhouette laughing as he lifted a young child high above his head, twirling her around ever so gently. Like a father would. Then he put her down and leaned to kiss her on the head.
She swatted playfully at her father as she fell over on her back, speaking gracefully in a tongue Raphael knew. “Oh dad! Leave me alone!”
The father-figure laughed as he grabbed her cheeks and gave her a raspberry on the nose. She swiped at him once more like a playful kitten until her father finally relented and let her sit back up.
“Remember, my little Karai. You are never alone.”
Those words echoed in Raphael’s mind like the ringing of a bell as the scene went up in flames, and then Raphael saw the girl, Karai, older than she was before, maybe in her teens. She was clutching at her hair and sobbing as she flames trapped her, repeating over and over again that she was not alone. She was not alone. She was not alone.
Then the scene changed again. Raphael hardly recognized the father figure as he kneeled before a powerful creature. An oni. His face and arms were badly burned but he was alive, and he seemed to be begging for something. And then Raphael saw what it was. The oni pulled from within his vessel a kura kabuto shining with mystic fire.
The next thing Raphael beheld was the girl, all grown up now with hair like the frill of a cobra flowing behind her in wind Raphael could not feel. Her body was emblazoned with marks of green and her eyes shined the same. Above her heart and on her shoulder were matching tattoos of a twelve-petaled lotus with a six-pointed star in its middle. She wielded twin katana, both working independently of each other in fluid motions. On either side of her, colorful soldiers stood in similarly strong stances.
Kappa. Four of them— two on either side. To her right were red and orange, and to her left blue and purple. Compared to her they were no bigger than a child of ten would be, but they wielded their weapons with all the skill of seasoned warriors. Raphael felt as if he were spinning. Spinning and spinning until he came to face what they were facing. Shredder.
Raphael fell back and the image shattered once more into blackness, the soldiers blipping out of existence one by one. Green, orange, blue, purple… and it left the red kappa alone and falling to the ground as he clutched his plastron. He cried out in a grief that Raphael, though he couldn’t hear it, felt in the pit of his stomach. Mourning. Lost. Alone. Then he, too, was gone.
“Why are you showing me this?” Raphael called to the blackness that had returned to him yet again. “Why?!”
His only answer came in the form of his echo. That is, until the echo started to shift into a voice that wasn’t his own. With each return of his echo, the voice shifted and changed so subtly that it took Raphael until the very last echo to hear the change.
“Let me help you…”
“Dad…”
Raphael felt as if fifteen years of life were slammed back into him all at once, and he was lifted off his feet as memories forced their way down his throat and into his mind, making him cry in pain that, while it was most certainly in his mind, felt as real as being torn in two. He could have sworn it— he thought between the memories that bombarded him— that his plastron was being pried apart. He looked down at his plastron and brought his hands to touch the shell and when he brought it back, he was bleeding. He was being torn apart! Drained…
“No…” Raphael remembered it all now. He remembered it and he was furious! “NO!”
The decayed skeletons returned to torture him, repeating their nasty words of torment as they circled him and tried to cast him back down into the pits. But he refused.
“Anatawa Hitorijanai… I am not alone!” He screamed at the skeletons in turn, “AND NEITHER ARE YOU!”

Feel the need to point out that this has been said before, and better, in Penelope Scott's "Rät."
So fuck your tunnels
Fuck your cars
Fuck your rockets
Fuck your cars again
You promised you'd be Tesla
But you're just another Edison
'Cause Tesla broke a patent
All you ever broke were hearts
I can't believe you tore humanity apart
With the very same machines
That could've been our brand new start

NaLu/Gruvia Request: Gruvia Son listening to NaLu Daughter's heartbeat
I hope it's okay anon! I don't write FT fics often so I hope it's not too OOC. ^_^
Badump badump badump
A light breeze blew past them, disturbing their hair, but they didn't move from their positions, too comfortable to readjust.
It was still summer, a season he dreaded for the heat, but she loved for the very same reason.
It was odd, their connection. It was weird how an ice mage could have feelings for a fire mage, but here he was, content, in peace, listening to the beat of her heart.
Badump badump badump
After discreetly listening to it for an hour, he could tell it was a different tune to what he knew.
It wasn't like mom's, calm and gentle like the waves of the sea.
It also wasn't quite like dad's, strong but steady.
It was fast and powerful, it reminded him of the dragons uncle Natsu always told him about.
Maybe she also had a dragon inside her that's why her heart was so strong.
He didn't know, he never met one before, but since his father never opposed or denied anything uncle Natsu always told him about dragons, it must be true.
Unlike uncle Natsu, secretly his favorite uncle, his father wasn't one to goof around all the time. He did often forget about his stripping habit, which made auntie Erza angry and take out her sword.
He was thankful auntie Erza was on their side, the woman was kind and sweet when she was with him, but she was a monster when his dad and uncle Natsu started fighting.
It reminded him a bit of auntie Erza's kid, he always forgot his name. Though he was older than the rest and a bit more mature, he was usually the one keeping everyone in line...until he got sucked into the fray anyway.
Ren glanced up at the still sleeping girl, sighing in relief before the comforting sound entered his ears again.
Badump badump badump badump
The dark haired boy smiled, cuddling closer into the girl, sighing peacefully in bliss.
Nashi carefully peeked one eye open, looking down at the oblivious ice mage, who was fast asleep against her side.
She smiled cheekily, the hand on his chest curling into his shirt contently, the steady beat of his heart a lullaby to her own slumber.
Thank you for reading!

Phoenix Skies Reborn
Written for a class this semester. This takes place several years after my original story Phoenix Skies (a NaLu story). Now Natsu and Lucy's daughter is all grown up. Nashi Dragneel and her best friend Arashi are about to learn discover the hidden truth between them...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Whoa is that your dad!” the young boy whispers to his friend. “He totally looks like he’s on fire!”
“Isn’t my daddy just the coolest!” The little girl responds with a giggle, “I wanna be just like him when I grow up!” A few moments later, they see a woman walking towards her father, “Lookie, it’s my mommy!”
The two friends, 7-year-old Arashi and 6-year-old Nashi peek out from the bush they had been hiding under, watching her parents on the hill crest. To the children, the whole scene was like some magical fairytale come to life of the dragon and his princess, for atop that hill, stood Nashi’s father in full Salamander glory. Unlike her half status, he was a full-blooded fire class Draco with much larger, reptilian wings measuring about ten feet from tip to tip, and two curled, beige horns sprouting from his head. Humanoid in many aspect’s but instead of bare skin, his back, chest, and extremities were all covered in scales.
Even Arashi was spellbound, for compared to his sinewy father, this man’s very presence could cause one to shudder. The Draco towered over his mate, Nashi’s mother, by over a foot, with such a muscular physique the small boy couldn’t help but think of him as some God like figure. Truth be told, her father was the strongest of his kind but had the most jester-ish of qualities, often joking around and yet sweet in nature, the man genuinely had a heart of gold. And as he held his wife against a sunset to end all sunsets, the children could only watch in breathtaking wonderment.
“Yeah… your dad really is the coolest…”
The young man had been searching everywhere for the Salamander, but she wasn’t at her cottage or her friend Chieko’s home, the usual hang outs she’d often frequent or even the local watering hole where she would often frolic on a summery day such as this one. And it was a gorgeous one, by far the best day they’d had this August with cloudless powder blue skies that stretched for miles and miles unimpeded. Breezes, abundant in nature to cool you down from the sun’s blinding ray’s, forceful enough to stir the air and lift your tresses, but not whip them around like in a gale.
Fall was just around the corner and the trees were starting to make their debuts with the lightest hints of color change. Arashi sighed, it was another beautiful time and season that made one appreciate their world and understand the cycles of Samsara. How nature was the ultimate goddess who gave birth, lived, changed, and then died only to be reborn anew year after year after year in an endless cycle. Reflections of the heart.
Alas, he was losing focus, the Salamander, where was Nashi? If only he’d had the Draco’s sense of smell, chuckling in his head, that girl could sniff him out anywhere in town, but he needed to rely on good old-fashioned detective work. The wisteria grotto? Nope. Crocus river? Not there either. Maybe she actually went to see her parents for once without prompting, so he heads over and finds the girl’s mother at home.
“Hi!” Hugging the young Sprite, “what bring you here?”
“Aunt Lucy, do you know where Nashi might be?”
But the female Fae only shakes her head, “I’m sorry Arashi…”
“Please call me Storm, aunty, I like my nickname better.”
“You do realize Arashi means storm, right?”
He crosses his arms, “I know, but Storm sounds tougher.”
Lucy chuckles, “you are so much like your father. I swear, do all Snow Sprites have such a severe demeanor?”
“Uncle Lyon is the only other one I’ve met and,” taping his chin, “come to think of it he and dad are a lot alike. Any ways, I guess I’ll just keep looking, she’s gotta be around here somewhere.”
“I’m sorry I couldn’t be more helpful,” she chuckles, “but you should know by now they are like their element, always burning for action! Excuse the pun.” With a sigh, “even though Nashi is only half Salamander, that girl has taken after her father side.”
“Aye, she does idolize him,” the young man smiles in a teasing manner, “but at least she has your looks and your smarts going for her.”
“Oof!” Lucy slaps his arm lightly in jest. “Trying to work your charms on me too young man, you really are just like your father!”
“I’m just pointing out the obvious.”
“Well good luck dear,” she shoos him on his way, “when you find that wayward daughter of mine, tell her to check in sometimes cause we worry about her.”
“I will, thank you Aunty.”
By late afternoon, Arashi was ready to give up and go home. He had hoped to set out early in the morning on a new commission but unless he could find his partner and confirm it with her, well, the Snow Sprite just wasn’t up for going it alone. Why would he when it was always more fun when they were together for an adventure.
But where could Nashi be hiding? She had promised never to run off on her own again after the last tongue-lashing he’d given her. Sometimes that girl was too adventurous and reckless for her own good and even her father who’d seen his fair share of mischievous younger years would get on her case about it. No, Arashi stilled the growing anxiety rising in his mind, Nashi’s never gone back on a promise before, for that he was certain of in his heart. So, there was only one last option he could think of, it was a stretch since it was a place that she would only visit with her mother during certain celestial events or solstices, but since the young Draco tended to go for the familiar, it was worth a shot.
It was one of the best locales for sky gazing around their village, a hilly meadow with no trees to block the open view above, rolling fields of envious green and swaying wildflowers dancing to an unsung tune only the gods could hear. But if you closed your eyes… and slowed your pace…. those melodies just might reward your passage into another realm, transport your consciousness to where the pixies prance and flutter about or the stars may wink and grant your wishes. Asteri Hills was their nickname for this magical milieu, Nashi’s sanctum to commune with the spirits, and one she’d shared with her best friend some 13 years ago.
And as he crested the final hurdle, there she was atop the highest vestige this place had to offer. Her back towards him, head tilted towards the heavens and eyes no doubt closed. With leathery crimson wings tucked neatly against her lithe frame while her long, snake-like tail twitched of its own volition near her feet. Nashi’s salmon-colored hair shifted in the winds that wafted past, funneling her smoky scent down the hill into his company. He couldn’t help but let a smile creep along his face or a blush run along his cheeks for she truly was like an idol amongst the divinity of this realm, like her father. Bathed in hints of royal purples, fiery crimson blending into tangerine orange, and melting honey she was… Exquisite… The kaleidoscope of colors unifying into an overwhelming aura to encircle her, so powerful and virile, it sends a golden arrow to pierce the chosen.
Arashi shields from the burning fronting his vision, it was if she was on fire, just like the mythological Phoenix rising from the ashes, but it didn’t sting his eyes, this image was blazing a different path through his soul, awakening an arcane desire as old as time itself that had lain dormant but now ready to soar into the azures. N-Nashi… His mind flashes back to that long-ago scene, except this time...
Without warning, an attack launches itself within his body. His blood rushes through his veins, deafening against his ear drums. Arashi clutches to his chest and drops to his knees, what the hell is happening to me! It felt like his thumping heartbeat could break through his diaphragm, lungs screamed from a loss of air he was still taking in and yet, why couldn’t he fill them? Heat swells inside his frame, convening and churning like a caged creature ready to pounce at its vessel. Arashi looks up to the sky as the swirling sensation begins to move, radiating outward, filling every pore, every cell, with a strange buoyancy feeling the man of ice and snow had never experienced before.
Soon, his mind is spinning out of control and the vision of Nashi blurs…
“Storm?” a hand takes hold, fingers curling beneath his chin to lift his face. “Storm are you okay?” He blinks and sees his best friend kneeling, smiling like she normally looks in front of him. Did he imagine the whole thing? The Snow Sprite looks past her and sees the raging skyline still evident in all its glory while slowly the blood-orange sun disappeared below a distant horizon. Nashi laughs, “Storm, what has gotten into you? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
“N-Nashi?” raising a hand towards her cheek if only to make sure he wasn’t still in some dream.
“Wow, you’re burning up,” her gentle caress upon his brow causes hers to furrow, “that’s totally not normal for you, are you not feeling well?”
“Yes…” shaking his head, his hands dropping to their sides, “I mean no, I think I’m fine.”
“Then what happened?”
“I’m not sure,” burning images of his best friend flashing through his mind once more, “I saw you… a—and…” a renewed passion of all those febrile emotions rush back but this time they center in a new location, winding into a tight coil in his gut, before dashing below the waist. Arashi’s eyes flare with intensity as the realization hits him. Oh, crap that’s what it all meant!
A huskier tone snaps his mind into the present. “Arashi…” and as his Aegean hues fall under her scrutiny, growing wider if at all possible when he notices the matched lust of the Salamander dancing behind her icy blue gaze. “…your scent has changed.”
Oh crap, she can smell the arousal! All the pent-up emotions he had long buried and tucked away to be forever unrequited threaten to take control. He falls onto his ass and tries to scoot away. “Nashi, I-I didn’t mean to…. I mean I couldn’t help it that I…. y-you’re my friend and it’s wrong of me to think of you in that way!”
“Stop being an idiot Storm,” her tail grabs hold of his foot to stop his back-peddling, “how do you know I haven’t felt the same way about you?” Crawling over and forcing him into a supine position until she is practically nose-to-nose with the man, “hmm?”
“We’re elemental opposites.”
She lets the weight of her body settle onto his, propping herself with a grin, “And yet best friends,” bopping his nose, “you keep me cool in the summer and I keep you warm in the winter, pretty sweet deal don’t cha think?”
“Oh, geez…. is that all I’m good to you for?”
Nashi’s eyes half-lidden, “As much as I should smack you for that comment,” and her face lowers ever closer… “how bout I just show,you instead.” The Snow Sprite is given no chance for a rebuttal when between blinks her lips have claimed his in such a covetous manner as to shock every cell in his body. She giggles at this startled expression, her tail flicking in amusement, “do you believe me now?”
“Hmm, I don’t know…” his face turns to the side, though his eyes monitor her reactions through their periphery, “you could’a just done that to tease me.”
“Oof!” slapping his chest and rolling off into a sitting position, “I don’t go around just kissing guys!” The pouty, child-like expression sends Arashi into a minor hysteric. “I’ve never even kissed anyone before…”
While still chuckling quietly, he sits up and pulls Nashi back onto his stretched-out legs until she’s straddling him. “You know I’m just teasing you,” smoothing his thumb against her cheek, “and I’m glad these lips,” grazing them with his own, “were saved for me.”
Left in the wake of a setting sun, nary another spoken word, did the world spin for the second time that day as a torrid desire swirled and enveloped the budding couple into its bosom. Arashi seizes upon Nashi’s lips, so flushed with heat and engorged with life-giving essence, worrying the supple pink flesh until her simpering becomes music to his ears. She fists at his knit top through each deepened entreaty. His hands caress her lower back before travelling and fingers tangle into her salmon-colored locks, coveting them like they were made of the finest silk.
Her mewls to his groans adding to loves melody as their tongues frolic amongst a moist and temperate climate. A few clicking of teeth or grazes of her canines on such sensitive flesh, but eventually a seasoned rhythm finds them locked in a rumba all their own. Nashi’s hands drift upwards, cradling his crown, slightly tugging on his hair each time his hands have wandered to a southern locale. Not that she minded it so much. The feeling of his fingers ghosting against any bare skin sent delectable little shivers along her spine to fuel her vocal pleas.
Neither realized just how much they had longed for the other’s touch, but as they gave into those desires, it felt as normal as the changing seasons, transitioning their relationship from platonic to amorous. A deep rumble of contentment shattering the cozy still of the early evening darkness. Instincts soon take over as Nashi’s tail and wings encircle the couple in a protective shield. But they are oblivious, so wrapped up in the moment to bat an eye until a need for air makes itself painfully known.
After a couple more sweeps against her lips, Arashi leans his forehead against hers. “Last chance to walk away,” he muses.
But Nashi simply smiles, “Oh Storm,” and pats his cheek, “you’re stuck with me now.”
~~
A few yards away at the edge of the clearing, Nashi’s parents hide amongst the brush spying on the two young adults. Lucy clasps a hand over her mouth to muffle her giggling, “they are so adorable!”
“It brings back memories doesn’t it?” Natsu pulls his mate closer, kissing her temple, “that was once us.”
Lucy sighs and leans against his shoulder suggestively, “they grow up too fast…. Maybe we should have another one…”
14.03 Round-Up
Well this was a nice one. Good seeds planted. We got some interesting rows to hoe, if they stick with ‘em. I am *extremely* happy with the choice of character they chose to slip in, and with that we get to...
First off, I am pleased to say the “where is everybody” exposition from multiple characters was, across the board, actually handled well, all conversationally and casually. Like, everyone and their mother got name-dropped and it truly wasn’t anvil-y. Well. Then came the load they had poor Jack drop on us *sigh*. #so close
But hey, good lead-in to get the weak point of the ep out of the way upfront so I may fawn over the strongest part for the bulk of the round-up (I’ll restrain myself, or at least try to).
* Jack and the Sulk Stalk
Once again, we have Cas holding down the fort, and okay. I suppose. The reasoning last time was actually solid -----
And it got told. Again. When all they had to do was have Cas go, “Dean I would’ve been there, but---” - [Dean interrupts] - “It’s okay, Cas. Sam explained. We’re good.” I continue to expect tight scripting, I’ve no idea why. Wasn’t anvil-worthy, but it was clunky.
---- yet this time it was not-so-solid, because random subplot that was random.
We got to see a bunch of the Hunters We’re Supposed To Love And Care A Whole Lot About briefly, just long enough for one to call Sam “Chief-----
“I asked them to stop calling me that”.... welp, first time we’ve heard it, soooo...
-----and then an appearance by another one forthwith who has brought random chick in who was cursed by a witch who was
WHO CARES
We were supposed to, because Jack got all angsty teen and was gonna run away, complete with backpack and note left on the bed. Which, he could - I mean, he managed to get to East Who-Knows-Ville, USA and visit with his gramps and maw-maw, then get back to the bunker at the speed of light, so he could totes get to wherever he wants to, I’m sure. Hey, he should hook up with Nick. Nick’s doing fine without powers.
*sighs*
But we go through all this stuff where obvious necklace answer is obvious, and Jack gets to show he can actually contribute, and saves the girl, and... and...
Here’s the thing: I like Jack. I like his sweetness, his innocence. I like that they nerfed Jack, no one wants there to be an ex machina, there’s gotta be stuff that’s hard or you don’t have a story. I like that he considers Cas his dad, and these two actors have great chemistry, match made in [ahem] heaven. I don’t mind him struggling with finding his place. I mind none of this.
Problem is, this is the second time they’ve shoehorned Jack into an episode with an out-of-the-blue random that’s not integrated smoothly. I said it in the other round-up, and I’ll say it again: the scene with him and the grandparents was great. Well done. Genuinely mean it. But it didn’t belong in the ep, it absolutely ground the momentum to a halt. Same here with witchypoo, though not as much of a full stop.
I get the whole ep can’t focus on what we’re getting to, but here’s what I’m saying: Have it tie in. Have it be relative to the main plot of the ep. And if it’s something to do with the major arc, something of which we are unaware? There should still be a trace of a hint of that, that there’s something more, something deeper going on, and there wasn’t in either of these two Jack subplot items. Yes, yes, the struggle to belong, but we got that. We got it. So can’t that be reinforced, maybe made a touch more interesting with a tie-in, versus “Hello random new people who just dropped out of the sky”?
Oh, and he’s got consumption.
I’m kidding. He is coughing up blood, though, so it could be TB. Lord knows what germs the bunker ventilation system is circulating.
It’s not TB.
* Dean Gets Clean
HAHAHAHA faked you out, it was a tease, they teased us with wet locker room Dean, and we got nothing. #insert knife #twist
* Dean’s Brain Farts
Supposedly Dean can’t remember all the deets - refers to the possession later as feeling like he was “under water”, good analogy - and the only reason I bring this up is because Cas did some brain diddlin’ and brought up the broad strokes, which might be a point in the Mikey’s Not Hiding In Dean’s Colon column. On the other hand, mighty archangel, and Cas still-----
STILL
------ain’t firing on all his cylinders.
And they covered why his attitude was “off”, for lack of a better word, and it made sense. On the other hand, we could also be looking at Mikey impersonating Dean to get back close to Kaia, which brings me to....
* KAIA!!!!!!
I knew this was a talented lil’ actress when she first was featured, though I was “eh” on the character, mainly because I thought we could have another Claire situation on our hands (excepting the talented part) because if you know me, you know I loathe Claire, both the character, and the way the actress plays her. I’ve done posts on that, I won’t bore you here.
But when I saw what happened at the end of the Wayward Sisters pilot? Nashie changed her tune *immediately*. It was what sold me on that (potential) show, because that would have been an excellent first season WAH-POW punch to start them off. And then no show, and then I assumed if we touched on her/them again, it would be a letdown.
Well fuck me sideways.
Following some real fine close-up and detail-revealing pans of fake severed heads that I can only presume were purchased at Party City about five minutes prior to “ACTION!” that day, we got a fine treat of a reveal of Kaia through a well-choreographed fight scene that made up for the lukewarm one we got later. Whatever her stunt double gymnast is getting paid is not enough, the stuntwork that woman is doing is *chef’s kiss*.
The scenes between this actress and JA were pure hotsauce, she held his eye and dished it right back, and the thing I love is that she’s not playing it all petulant teen (stares at Claire, gives slight side-eye to Jack), she’s not over-doing the tough guy false bravado thing, she’s just intense. No broody, no angst, no drama. INTENSE. Love it. Beautiful. I want this chick around more, hundred percent, this is gold. I’d rather her be an ally... or pseudo-ally... than a big bad, and I suspect they’ll do the former, but end of the day, she needs to be there.
* Weird shit
And only briefly:
- Fine, let’s go with “Mikey jumped ship” --> to *where*? Into *what*? Or *who*?
- The monster squad going after Kaia ---> Another fine, IF this was how it went: Mikey senses the presence of a badass, goes to recruit, Kaia refuses, game on.
But we have Sam saying “...finish what he started” and implying that the reason for the monster squad was to take out Kaia------
Which.... no? It’s his new army, instead of angels as it was in his home world, since he’s not got a ton of angels to use in this world
------because her weapon is the only thing that can hurt him, but the problem is, finish what?
What had Mikey started? When? Where? Not in Alt World, because Kaia’s not from Alt World, she’s from the Bad Place world, and we established last season that Mikey & co. had yet to figure out how to world jump. So how did he know that some sort of metal from some rando world could take him out?
- And, side note: if Kaia is an analog of our Kaia - i.e., a human with the dreamwalker “gift” - instead of some sort of mimic creature thing like I’d assumed at the time we first saw her, then Mikey couldn’t just cock an eyebrow and eviscerate her on the spot becaaaaaauuuuse......?????
If I completely did a Dean and was underwater and brain farted something, feel free to let me know.
So that’s that, like I say, they planted some plot crops and didn’t leave what’s been established in the first two episodes in the dust, hopefully momentum picks up a touch from here on out.
She child raced to the other without stoppage, barely even coming to a halt in front of him as her balance wavered, throwing her arms around Izanagi as the weight of her person bared down on his frame, giving him a sudden and harsh embrace while the girl grinned. "Let's get married when we're older, Iza-kun!" // bby mu-chan :')
“M-married?” He barely even stumbles when she comes flying into him, though the basket of nashi he carried is left abandoned, dropped and spilling all over his alleyway. He... he wasn’t expecting something like this to be the first thing she’s said to him today.
He’s ever so careful in lowering her back to the ground, then takes her by the hand and moves to sit her on a stoop before squatting to gather his scattered fruit. “What... what makes you say something like that so suddenly?” Not that he has objections. On the contrary, usually it’s him contemplating that sort of turn of events, even if he might hesitate to speak it aloud. Once he’s got himself back in order, he moves to sit beside her and finds a particularly nice looking nashi, polishing it against his robes before offering it to her. “You, ah... you know, we probably couldn’t get married. I don’t think your parents would allow that...”
Not if they met him, or his family. From what she’s told him, her family seems kind enough, if her parents are somewhat strict it would seem only out of a desire to be good guardians, but what reason would they have to be unkind to their own daughter? Izanagi has witnessed many a time how quickly tunes change in the faces of strangers. “N-not that I... wouldn’t want to, but...”
