Currently having an incredible time at the @nasa Social experience for Crew 10! We've had the opportunity to speak to some truly awesome people who support launches, facilities, and public affairs, and everyone has such a passion for what they do here. I can't wait to tell you all more!

I really want to work for NASA but I do not have a background in science or engineering. Are there any career paths at NASA that I could still achieve?

i know a lot of people tend to define dani/ellie's "obsession" as the ocean to go with danny's space obsession but tbh i feel like as dani gets older she's going to do a lot to separate herself from her identity as danny's "clone" and become her own person
like, that's why i love that the fandom has adopted the "ellie" nickname so much for her. i so wish the show went on for longer with more competent writers or the comic could expand on this maybe but i think finding her own identity and voice would be such a powerful narrative. you're made for one thing but you don't wanna do that, so now what do you do?
(tbh that kind of identity exploration is probably too anit-christian for b*tch h*rtman so i'm glad he didn't get to touch it)
it's canon that dani goes off and travels the world, so why not have her obsession be traveling? she's got a huge case of wanderlust. she likes the outdoors, she likes hiking and camping and is a huge granola girl. like, i think that kinda just fits her a bit more, in my opinion. traveling/exploration.

“Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there-on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.
Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.
The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.
It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.” ― Carl Sagan, Pale Blue Dot

Palestinian Flag - NASA Photos
Tumblr media
I wanted to share this one again while I wait for all my weekend designs to be approved. I colored this Palestinian flag with open source NASA photos.
My best friend is Palestinian, and a lot of his friends and family in Palestine and around the rest of the Levant are being hurt directly and/or financially by the attacks on Gaza, the increasing Israeli raids in the West Bank and the collateral damage in surrounding countries. ALL PROCEEDS from these designs will go first and foremost to helping his girlfriend afford to join him in America safely, and after that helping his other loved ones weather this war.
Available here on shirts, stickers, hats, masks, etc.
All designs available here (click on each to see the design on other products as well). Adding new designs about daily.

YOU’RE IT FOR ME: NASA - CHAPTER ONE
summary: soobin often thinks about what his life would be like if he didn’t choose this career path. in anybody else’s eyes he was set for life, but there’ll always be consequences for choosing such a luxurious life. one of the biggest obstacles that he has probably encountered in his career? having to keep up a fake relationship with the public’s eye candy; his first love and ex.

On Tuesday, as part of the @nasa social experience, we got up close and personal with the crawler transporters and got to speak to some of the folks who work on the crawler. According to them, it takes two years to get your license to drive it - even astronauts, who are qualified to fly spaceships, aren't allowed to drive the crawler without a license. Makes sense, given that they're the largest self-propelled land vehicles in the world!
CT-2, shown here, will be used to carry NASA's SLS rocket from the Vehicle Assembly Building to the launchpad in support of the Artemis program. Both CT-2 and its partner crawler CT-1 have long carried rockets from the VAB to the pad, first constructed for the Apollo program before then being used throughout the Shuttle program. CT-1 has seen better days, and is now being used primarily for parts for CT-2.
While much of the hardware is original, several things have been updated over time, mainly the internal computer system. When you're carrying something weighing millions of pounds that has catastrophic consequences if you tip over, stability is paramount. The computer within the crawler controls a massive hydraulic system that keeps the top deck, which is the size of a baseball infield, so flat that if you placed a golf ball atop it, it wouldn't roll around. Just as much of a marvel of engineering as the rockets are!
If you're curious, while the drivers have seen it reach speeds of over one mile per hour, it really doesn't like doing that. They say it averages about 0.8mph.

To this day, years later, the funniest part of the whole “Pluto getting downgraded to a dwarf planet” thing is how the responses on social media are basically divided between normal people making the most clearly sarcastic jokes about not liking the decision that you could possibly imagine (“Pluto is a planet because Ohana means family!”) and the most egotistical, self-righteous, sarcasm-blind people on God’s earth taking these obvious jokes completely seriously and going on stern holier-than-thou rants justifying Pluto’s downgrade and accusing the joke-makers of being stupid ignorant disrespectful pieces of shit who don’t respect the Holy Science and should be shot for disinformation.

Did you know NASA makes their astrophotography open source? They're one of my favorite resources. Since I started fundraising for my Palestinian friend I haven't looked at using them as much, but I'm still trying to mix these beautiful photos into my designs occasionally. This James Webb photo shows the Wolf–Rayet star WR 124 and the nebula M1–67. The above design can be found HERE. Some examples (shirts, sticker, acrylic block, notebook and pin):

As usual ALL PROCEEDS from my shop go to my Palestinian best friend to help him support his girlfriend in remaining safely in America until things calm down and to help his other loved ones around the Levant who are being hurt directly and/or financially by the attacks on Gaza, the raids in the West Bank and the collateral damage in surrounding countries. He will donate anything his family doesn't need to the Palestinian charities he works with.
It turns out that Redbubble collections cap out at 100 products, so I have temporarily removed my handful of products not related to Palestine and from now on I will dedicate my whole shop to this. My designs can be found here on my main page.
Here's one other astrophotography design I have in my collection:

Thank you to everyone who has helped out so far!
