Five Tribes, the jinns of Naqala, is a game of Bruno Cathala, illustrated by Clément Masson, published by Days Of Wonder. It is aimed at an audience of 13 years minimum, for 2 to 4 players for about 60 minutes.
2014 is the year of the horse in China, playful land is the year of the Bruno of the mountains!! Since January, Bruno Cathala has delivered Desperados of Dice Town, Mrs Ching, Abyss, the extension Titans for Cyclades and Dragon Run remain to come, and there Five Tribes, the jinns of Naqala. Just that… After Abyss in Bombyx, co designated with Charles ChevallierCathala once again managed to release a game aimed at an informed audience from a publisher with more family-related habits. Each player will try to become the level sultan of Naqala winning the favors of five tribes and jinns. Hence the title. 🙂
The five tribes are represented by of the meeples (yellow viziers, white sages, blue builders, green merchants and red assassins). The jinn are when to them on cards. Using the various specifics of all this beautiful world, you will score and the highest score wins the title of sultan.

It consists of two phases: an auction to determine the order of play, then one action per player.
The auction phase allows you spending money or not, from you to place more or less high on a ladder which determines the order of play for the next round, but also the order of bet for the next auction. The first player of this turn will also be the first to bet for the next auction. A subtlety is added here. 3 slots are planned for zero bids. The first player to put 0 will automatically be the last player of the turn, because the next player who will also 0 will be right in front of him. Putting 0 for the round of play will keep gold coins but in addition to playing last round this turn, you will also bet last time to the next round ... Subtle choice ...
The action phase is the heart of the game. And following the order set in the auction phase, you will take All meeple one box (3 for example). Then you go edseed these meeple on as many boxes as meeple taken (so 3 in the example). The constraints for the égrainage are the following ones:
a meeple per box, displacements are done orthogonally, without going back, the last meeple must be placed on a square that already contains a meeple of this color. Once this move is made, you retrieve the last meeple posed as well as all meeples of its color of this box (at least 2). You will then do the power of the tribe according to the color recovered:
a meeple yellow, be a vizier, you keep these meeple in front of you to convert them into poivictory at the end of the game a meeple green, be a traderit gives you direct access to market resources a meeple blue, a builder, you earn gold coins based on adjacent blue tiles a meeple White, a wise, you earn points or recover djinns a meeple red, be a assassin, and lets you kill a meeple kept by another player or meeple on the tray.
And it's not not finished!!! Once the tribal power is done, you realize the power of the tile where you finished your movement. Either you add a palm tree on an oasis, a palace on a village, or you shop at small or large markets, or you can invoke a djinn among those available.
And it's not not finished!!! If at the end of your action, you empty a tile (taking the last meeple present or by assassinating via the red tribe a meeple isolated on a tile) you immediately drop a camel of your color on the tile. This one belongs to you immediately, indefinitely and without any conceivable loss.
And then it's over and it's up to the next player.
Two reasons can end the game: there is no more valid movement of meeples or a player puts down his last camel. In both cases, the current tour ends and the movements of meeple leave room for accounting.
There are 8 different ways to score points at Five Tribes.
First, gold coins earn points !! Ouch!! So the more you are greedy in the auction phase, the poorer you are in gold and in point ... The second, the viziers, one for each, easy. But the further subtlety, every gap of unity between the players will be rewarded with ten points. Example: 4-player game, 4 vizier against 3 against 2 against 1. Vizier points will be 34, then 23, then 12 and 1. The sages can either earn you two points each or you can summon the jinn. They also bring victory points. The different resources gleaned walk in series to earn gold and therefore victory points. Finally the tiles you own bring you points (their own value) and all the palms (3 points) and palaces (5 points) present on your tiles. It makes possibilities!
Five Tribes so is a game of displacement of meeple with a good dose of opportunism, sprinkled with interaction (Assassin / jinn). Finally, Five Tribes is quite simple: an auction, a move from meeple for the best shot possible. But the multitude of possibilities makes it a relatively demanding and profound game.
The big one replayability of Five tribes is for me certain and comes from two aspects: random set up (arrangement of tiles and meeple) and player actions. And depending on how the players will scratch and disperse the different tribes, this will influence the actions in the next rounds. Two parts are not really alike.
Five Tribes is full of subtleties. Beyond the points mentioned above, it is perhaps these details who charmed me in this game. The first phase auction, fast compared to the action phase, but is really decisive. The subtleties of scoring, with the bonuses of majorities viziers, the gold you spend is as many points lost, tiles that you own that you manage to add palms or palaces, the existence of combo (assassins who can recover two tiles in the same turn, or the jinn who combottent with palms or palaces ...), and especially the slaves. Slaves, of which I have not yet spoken, are maps included in the resources of the market. Their uses are multiple: multiplier for the tribe of the builders, increase of the range of the assassins, accompaniment of the sages for the invocation of the jinns, sacrifice for the activation of certain jinns. These cards can not be counted in the series of resources, they do not bring points directly, but are necessary for the realization of certain strategies and can really boost certain actions.
The editing is just perfect. A box really full of wood between all the camels, meeplepalms and other palaces, thick tiles, beautiful illustrations of jinn and cover.
All this justifies the price of Five Tibes and a very big congratulations to Bruno Cathala, DoW and Clément Masson. clap clap.
And to try to be exhaustive, the two-man game is also excellent with some adjustment on the number of camels of each player (11 instead of 8) and each player will play two actions per turn (naturally determined at auction).
The movement mechanics of meeple here is the heart of the game. It is quite simple, effective and surrounded by subtlety. However, the agreement between mechanics and theme is not optimal. The meeples move from tiles to tiles, their number reduced during the game, the 5 tribes have identifiable roles but ... There's a small but on the depth of the theme. Certainly the illustrations of the jinn, the slaves (still them ^^) and the meeple camels, palms and palaces give a bit of immersion. But the highlight of the game remains are working and not its theme.
Graphically, the jinn seduced. Less than the tiles found a little bland. This is to be qualified. Firstly, the tile is rich in points, the more it is visually rich (see tiles 15 and 12). The dark and sandy appearance of the tiles increases the readability between the 90 meeple at the beginning of the game, plus the cartridge of points and action on each tile. And the sandy side also nuances the thematic point discussed above.
The game helps are great. Everything is on it, the flow, the actions, the powers of the jinns. But too big? At the same time, apart from your gold, some meeple and some jinn you do not have much in front of you and after several games, only one at the table will be enough to recall the powers of jinn.
Analysis paralysis? Will the game suffer from too many possibilities? I do not believe. The goal is to make the best shot possible every turn. If your opponent has not seen it so much better for you. It makes seize the opportunity of the moment. Sometimes you have to pay the auction to play before the others if you are afraid that you break your shot. Possibilities there are many. Yes. Especially at the beginning of the game. The meeple become scarce during the game so this impression fades. And as for the difference in level between a gamer and an inexperienced player, it must be remembered that this is a demanding game for the discerning player. And even after that, the author himself to some advice to give novices:
avoid creating boxes with a single meeple (especially if they are of high added value). avoid creating boxes with a Meeple a color accompanied only by assassins (especially if the box is high value added). avoid creating accumulations of meeples same color ds the same box.
Five Tribes, The jinns of Naqala is excellent from mechanics to achievement. It will break a number of neurons. Informed public advised. It is released on August 29, 2014.

Exposição e Jogos da Humanidade no TopShopping
Do dia 2 a 31 de janeiro, as famílias e grupos de amigos poderão se divertir com jogos de tabuleiro no TopShopping. É a exposição “Jogos da Humanidade”, que apresentará alguns dos principais jogos de tabuleiro fabricados pelo homem em diferentes países e épocas. Além de conhecer as histórias de cada jogo, que estarão expostas em painéis, o público poderá aprender as regras e experimentar gratuitamente os jogos nas mesas dispostas no local da mostra.
A exposição tem como característica reunir em uma mesma atividade crianças, adolescentes e adultos, resultando em uma atividade que agrega famílias e amigos de todas as idades.
Os jogos
O Fanorona (ou Fanorone) é um jogo originário de Madagascar, país que ocupa a maior ilha do continente africano. Surgiu no fim do século XIV e se tornou o jogo nacional do país. O nome Fanorona derivaria de fano, que é o nome da árvore cujas sementes são usadas como peças para o jogo. Durante muitos anos teve um importante papel nos rituais da ilha e é jogado basicamente por pastores.
O Quoridor é um jogo de estratégia considerado um dos melhores jogos contemporâneos. Foi criado em 1997 pelo designer italiano Mirko Marchesi, tendo recebido os prêmios Mensa Select (1997), Games Magazine Game of the Year (1998) e Games Magazine Top 100 (1999).
O jogo Mancala é originário da África (2000 a.C.). Alguns tabuleiros desse jogo foram encontrados no Egito na época do Antigo Império (1580-1085 a.C.). Os tabuleiros estavam esculpidos nas lajes de cobertura do templo de Kurna, na entrada do templo de Carnaque e no topo das paredes do templo de Lúxor.
Seu nome deriva do árabe mangala (ou magala) e do verbo naqala, que significa mover, deslocar. Mover as sementes tem o sentido de semear a colheita e, por isso, as pessoas deixam o tabuleiro fora de casa à noite para que os deuses possam jogar e favorecer as colheitas.
O Surakarta é um jogo de tabuleiro da Indonésia, mas que não possuía um nome específico no seu país natal, onde era chamado apenas por “o jogo”. Chegou à Europa em 1970, onde recebeu o nome de Surakarta, referindo-se à cidade localizada na ilha de Java, banhada pelo rio Solo, onde possivelmente teve origem.
O jogo Torre de Hanoi foi inventado pelo matemático francês Edouard Lucas. Este jogo é uma versão simplificada da mítica torre de Brahma, existente em um templo em Benares, na Índia.
Segundo a lenda, quando Brahma criou o mundo, colocou três postes verticais de diamante e, num deles, 64 anéis de ouro de tamanhos diferentes, empilhados na ordem do menor para o maior. Os monges deveriam transferir essa pilha para um dos dois outros postes, na mesma ordem original. Eles poderiam transferir um anel de cada vez utilizando outro poste, mas nunca colocando um anel maior por cima de um menor. Quando todos os 64 discos fossem transferidos, o templo seria destruído e o mundo se acabaria.
