Propaganda: As the Funny European Team Rocket Men of GX, the two are almost too obvious-- not just in how much time they spend together or how much of that time seems a bit too intimate for men who are supposedly just work buddies. The ship, with its participants being based on historical figures (obviously, Napoleon Bonaparte and the Medici family respectively), the ship therefore has a real-world historical precedent of sorts (Napoleon was Italian; two Medici women married into French royalty); the two have similar and compatible priorities (Cronos being first and foremost concerned with his babies-- ahem, *students*, while Napoleon is mostly worried about his own son; the step-father potential in Cronos is Immaculate) and, of course, the ship is very funny-- not in the least because you have two men, one single in his mid-thirties while the other is divorced in his fifties, thereby trying to navigate their relationship like a pair of stupid teenagers. But of course, there is also serious potential in the ship as well. After all, Napoleon's divorce means that he's going to be extremely anxious about screwing up a good thing again, while for Cronos it's a potential red flag that their relationship will end in disaster. The plot of season 3 also gives them both immense pain to work through, after all that they've been helpless as their respective kids suffered. It's easy to overlook them both, especially Napoleon (I promise that's not a joke at the expense of his height, he's just kinda mainly remembered for how he's introduced in season 2 as French Cis Cronos and has little unique character of his own until Martin's introduction), but there's absolutely something to engage with both in the characters themselves and in the interactions between them. Also they literally went on a picnic date while watching Judai duel once they're gay your honor

One of the many, many crimes of the 4kids adaptation of Yu-Gi-Oh GX is cutting this shot of Cronos softly smiling at Judai in his duel against Napoleon (when he realizes that Judai did pay attention in class after all)

The rest of his reaction is uncut, but the missing shot adds to the difference in characterization. Even in his better moments, Crowler remains much more of a stuck up asshole who very begrudgingly respects his students and is only brave when his paycheck is on the line.

I do have to wonder how they would have adapted S4 and the thank-you duel.

In Italy we got the first three seasons from the US, but the final season without any censorship from Japan. I can't imagine the whiplash!

GX Finalized-Subs!113 - Translation Check?

So, I've just finished up revising my GX 113 and 114 subs [will be watching them back to quality-check soon], but wanted to ask for some quick input on a line in 113, if anyone wouldn't mind lol; asked over on the NAC Discord since a few other translators are there, and thought I'd ask here for some more eyes since I haven't heard back:

So, as Judai barges into the Principal's office, finding Chronos and Napoleon there, he demands to know why Samejima [said Principal] is gone at a time like [the Dis-Duels causing so many students to pass out that they can't be kept in the Infirmary]; Chronos responds with "そんなことちょちょられテーモ、鮫島校長は出張中ナノーネ…", or what I last had as "I realize how you must feel, but Principal Samejima is away on business, is he not?"

But the "I realize how you must feel" bit was sort of a stand-in for not really getting the first part of Chronos's line before. ちょちょられテーモ/"chochorarete~mo," or "chochoru" as the possible base verb, doesn't come up in a dictionary I use, but a blog post I found seems to connect it to a word that folks around Mt. Fuji in Japan use in their dialect to refer to cats playing with a cat toy/yarn and pulling it close; they mention that, after pulling up "chokkai [ちょっかい/meddling/extending paws to pull something closer]" in a dictionary, it meant the same thing as what they call "chochoru," and in use, "[that word] feels like saying, 'my cat's messing with my phone's charging cord.'" So, going more with the "meddling" meaning, I'm currently thinking of going with "Barging in won't help--Principal Samejima is away on business, is he not?" since Judai barged in and is asking why he's gone; would that be about right? Or would you convey the "chochorarete~mo" differently? I was also thinking that, since it's cute that Chronos--chronic cat hater that he is--is using a phrase used in relation to cats, maybe "pawing around" or some other cat-related phrase that could get that meaning across could work to keep that little touch... 🤔

(For their part, Crunchyroll decided to just do "I can't answer you. Samejima is on a business trip." for their subs 🙃 [and the dub had him offer synonyms for "not here" 🙃])

Ho boy where do I start? I guess the ones that I am the most interested right now? RenRuki (Bleach) it is a ship combining so many things that are good. Childhood friends, Friends to Lovers, kinda Enemies to Lovers, Platonic love and support as Renji is the biggest Girlboss supporter. YunoXCharmy (Black Clover) mainly because I like the dynamic, the look is top tier and I find it cute. Sasuke X Some Peace and Quiet/jk(I am not). Right now? I guess I have to still say Mollie as I think they are adorable together.

ITS THE DAY TODAY! The beginning of @ygoc-week and my rapid descent into publicly talking about some of my characters. Or, well, just the one, but it's a step!

So, since I've already blabbed a bit about her, allow me to properly introduce her into the fold! So, for Day 1: Introductions, allow me to present to you all Miss Music herself, Musa Vogel!

I'm just, she,,,, her,,, one of the default responses I had to watching GX again back in like 2019 was "okay seriously where the FUCK are the Ra Yellow women why are they only Blue or Rei-" and as per my usual response to such questions I made an OC

She is one of the top students in Ra during their first year, academic and duelling rivals with Misawa for the top spot. Story-wise, she doesn't necessarily become relevant until second year, after Sho gets promoted and Kenzan is introduced, and hoo boy her introduction. For the narrative I have in my head, Duel Academy still has regular classes amidst all the duelling-focused ones, and it's in this music class Medici is forced to sub in for because Napoleon is ill that she emerges. Medici is so out of touch with the material he's teaching that, after answering and nitpicking several of his questions, he gets fed up and tells her to teach the class "if she's such a musical genius." Well, considering this is quite literally her life's passion, Musa silently stands up, walks to the front of the class, turns everyone to a certain part of their music, and has them play. actually, lemme get the silly written drabble I did for this-
