REST . When I was younger I struggled with severe depression and as a result was often not inclined to do more than was absolutely necessary or than would numb and distract me. . Getting myself out of depression included a lot of therapy and discipline. I would work out when I said I would. I would wake up when I said I would. I would bulldoze my way through life out of fear for ending up back there. . This year I’ve been prioritizing rest. Doing less when my body doesn’t feel up to it. Being in flow with my body of what feels good when instead of forcing myself to do what I said I would. . This morning when my alarm went off at 5:45 I was about to force myself out of bed and then I stopped and said no. My body needs rest, I can feel that. . So I turned it off and woke up naturally at 6:45. I decided going to the gym wasn’t the move for me this morning so I danced and stretched and meditated and read and went for a short and sweet little run with this boy and I feel so much better. . Rest is an integral part of living a healthy life. For me that means making sure I get enough sleep, spending less time on technology and more time reading before bed and when I wake up in the morning and moving in ways that feel good! And knowing that that can change day to day or week to week or month to month or year to year. .
