Readthrough with da NezumiVA crew is going strong, we're just nearing the end of episode 3 now, and I think at some point in the last stream I realised that in Umineko, all of the members of the Ushiromiya family are part of the nightmarish soul destroying inner family politics, and most of the servants have been so badly abused they don't even see themselves as human and don't realise something wrong has been done to them. Kumasawa is in a weird grey area because we don't really know her full deal other than in the magical version of events she's a gosh dang witch.

These two on the other hand?

Nanjo is just a doctor. He wants to do his job, and he has a friendship with Kinzo (even though Kinzo also sucks)

They're simple. They're wonderful. They're just normal people! I made this kind of shitposty art to commemorate that. That in all of this magic fuckery and all this patriarchal bullshittery we have two rocks of normalcy.

(yes I know they might be the culprits/accomplices in one or more of the murders but they're still simple on paper don't ruin this!)

I'm excited to see the conclusion of episode 3 tonight/tomorrow morning/whatever! The plot's in a spot where I'm really not sure what's going to happen next, so it's very engaging. Now, the conference finally begins as Umineko When They Cry: Dub of the Golden Witch releases the Prologue of Episode 1: Legend of the Golden Witch! It has been a long year and I didn’t think we’d get this part out so fast, but here we are! Choice Theft in the second degree, with utter disrespect

The way Genji, Kumasawa, and Nanjo constantly refer to the rape as being like…The One Sin that Kinzo ever did in regards to Beatrice 2. As though they weren’t there actively helping him to raise her in isolation, imprisonment, lying to her about the world, about herself. As if that’s not also a nightmarish abusive situation already, just on it’s own. We have so little of Beatrice 2, but it’s an undeniable fact that she was a human utterly devoid of agency in every single way.. They stole from her even the choice to be angry or upset or aware about what was happening to her, what had happened to her. Of the choice to be a human and not a witch. Of the choice to be a daughter and not a wife. Genji’s half-truth phrasings during the games too when dodging confirmation from the siblings about whether Kinzo had a child with his mistress are especially disgusting. Since he’s not just outright lying like Nanjo, but denying Beatrice 2’s personhood as an individual, and slyly using Kinzo’s grooming logic that she was not really herself, but someone else (her mother), even if he did genuinely feel bad for her. I’m sure Genji, Kumasawa, and Nanjo contented themselves by thinking that a bird in a cage doesn’t long for the outside. But that’s a theft in itself. And this choice theft is only continued with Sayo. Robbed of her own unsurgically-altered body. Robbed of the context of her life. Robbed of the ability to make choices based on those two things. And then in telling her, far too late, she is robbed of the mundane, uncomplicated love that had existed in her heart for Battler. Robbed of a lineage not tainted by the most horrific abuse. Robbed even of the ability to look at her own father, at the people who raised her, with respect. Like…HELL IS NOT HOT ENOUGH!!!!

Following up on my canon outfit promise, here are some of the men of Umineko! For everyone that just has easily recolorable suits, I think I just missed Hideyoshi...and Okonogi, if anyone even cares.

Battler/Black Battler & Genji/Gohda are alts in the same package, everyone else is separate! Also, Battler is divided into top and bottom, everyone else is full body. Should be Base Game Compatible!

This was the line of dialogue for the version I was using anyways. The meaning is practically the same but less vague with it's language.

holy shit they just go ahead and outright say it??? this is incredibly interesting to me (and sure does paint nanjo in a very specific light 👀).

i think i understand why my version's translation is more vague because at this point the fascist link to the ushiromiya family is all subtext and laying out like this makes it really hard to ignore versus phrasing it in a way where we're told the symbol looks vaguely european and then nanjo offers his explanation.

Entergram’s “Umineko” page has updated with more characters, including Tetsurou Okonogi, Juuza Amakusa, Erika Furudo, and Kasumi Sumadera.
