If You Wish Upon Me
Tumblr media
People have a right to a second chance, a rebirth of sorts. . .
People have a right to closure before the final goodbye. . .
This series is about those two things. Some get a second chance and other the final closure. It is heart felt and warm. The power of empathy is a magical thing. . .
I liked the series. It made me smile, it made me cry. Some things felt unrealistic but we forgive them as an audience captivated by the development of the characters that struggle to break from the darkness in their hearts and lives. . . Goodness outlives the darkness when people are surrounded by a caring support group, those that love you and you love back.
I really liked the story.

"how could you not contact me, even once? I missed you so much, I suffered so much! You are smiling?" -
"It's the first time you said these things to me. Thank you. Thank you for opening your room 19."
(AAAHHH, this scene!!! Se-hee was so heartbroken! What were you thinking, Ji-ho? Appearing out of thin air after months - saying that you more or less stayed in the neighborhood ?!? ... She was waiting for him to explicitly talk about his feelings I guess - but I think he already had expressed them. In his own specific way, many times before.)

TODAY’S WEBTOON // KDRAMA DİZİ YORUMU
UYARI : Yazılar genel olarak spoiler içerebilir. İçermeyedebilir.
İmdb puanı :7,4 Benim puanım:  7
Drama: Today's Webtoon
Hangul:
Director: Jo Soo-Won, Kim Young-Hwan
Writer: Naoko Matsuda (manga), Jo Ye-Rang, Lee Jae-Eun
Date: 2022
Language: Korean
Country: South Korea
Cast: Kim Se-Jeong, Daniel Choi, Nam Yoon-Soo, Park Ho-San, Kim Kap-Soo, Lim Chul-Soo, Ko Chang-Seok, Hwang Young-Hee, Yoon Seo-A
Babası On Ki-Bong(Ko Chang-Seok), annesi Hwang Mi-Ok(Hwang Young-Hee) ve kız kardeşi On Nu-Ri(Yoon Seo-A) ile beraber yaşamaktadır.
Tam olmasa da “Slice of life” modunuz açıkken izlerseniz bence seversiniz.

Jung So-Min Supremacy
Alchemy of Souls (2022)
Tumblr media
She wasn't in Season 2 but Go Youn-jung is just as adorable for the role.
Because This Is My First Life (2017)
Tumblr media
One of my all-time favorites. Their characters (Jung So-min as Yoon Ji-ho and Lee Min Ki as Nam Se-hee) are sometimes toxic, but they served life facts with a reality slap here.
The side characters are quite adorable too.
My Father is Strange (2017)
Tumblr media
It's too long since it's a day drama, but everyone's story here is just as strange (err., unique) as their father's.
This could well be the breakout role show for Ahn Hyo-seop (?) before Business Proposal.
Love Reset (2023)
Tumblr media
My two favorites (of many, lol) here: Jung So-min and Kang Ha-neul.
I wonder how it would turn out if were made into a series instead. 🤔
The Sound of Your Heart (2016)
Tumblr media
This is cute. The series is too short but really fun to watch.
Lee Kwang-soo delivers as always.
Playful Kiss (2010)
Tumblr media
I can't really remember this one much. Jung So-min is paired with Kim Hyun-joong (of the Boys Over Flowers, 2009) fame here.
Alice: Boy from Wonderland (2015)
Tumblr media
Boy, oh boy, this one I can never forget! It was a roller coaster ride with a major WTF twist.
What else should I watch?

The Law Café
Tumblr media
I had a feeling this series was based on a webtoon by its style and I wasn't wrong. I tried to find the webtoon but it's in Korean so I won't be able to read it yet. I'm sure it has its differences, but I will focus on the series adaptation.
The series was entertaining. It was a light romcom with interesting characters. Each episode brought a new set of dilemmas the team had to solve, some connected to the villain and others not so much.
I think they were daring in some aspects, for example, Yoo Ri's clothing. Maybe people that started watching Korean Drama don't see it as a big deal, but those that have been watching for years will notice quickly that this is a character who wears her clothes without hiding her shoulder. I don't know if I'm explaining myself well, but usually women use shirts under or over shirts or dresses with no sleeves (unless its an evening or wedding dress), but in this series Yoo Ri wears dresses and tops with spaghetti strips without any shirt covering her shoulders and upper arms.
Another thing, and this one is impactful, was the "me too" theme. In one of the episodes a young woman comes to Yoo Ri because her boss is sexually harassing her. In their search to find other victims, Bae Joon shares that he was sexually harassed by an superior while doing his military service, and said that others had suffered the same fate until they spoke up, this made the male victim come forward. And even though, when the situation was resolved, it was only the female victim who was with them (when I think the male victim should have been there as well), the statement they made brought gender equality to the table. I have always said that there are a lot of men who are sexually harassed and abused and they are silenced by social mockery and stereotypes. It is hard for women to come forward, it is just as hard for men too. And the use of "me too" to include both genders sent a real message: men and women should not have to suffer through sexual harassment and have their bodies violated by others.
I also liked the plot of their best friends who were married and had a baby. Han Se Yeon is a female police who loves her job and is good at it. She gave birth to their baby and after maternity leave returned to work. It is her husband, Do Jin Ki who opens his restaurant in the evenings to spend the day with his daughter. This is not a usual arrangement, and his mother resents Han Se Yeon for not leaving her job to be a full-time mother. At some point, Se Yeon thinks she is cutting Jin Ki's wings but he tells her that he loves her and their baby and that he doesn't mind being a stay-home father and take care of their child and part-timing in his own restaurant until she is older enough to go to school. This is another important topic, specially in South Korea.
i also liked the fact that the villain got prison time and didn't take the easy way out by committing suicide. Although, I do pity him to an extend because his father used him and treated him awfully.
Overall, it was a good series and it brought to light issues that are important and relevant these days. Plus, it was nice seeing Lee Seung Ki on the screen.
