LIGHTNING SHIELD: Israel and Italy start joint exercise with F-35 fighters
The Israeli Air Force believes that international exercises like this improve and strengthen the IAF's capabilities to deal with threats in real time.

The Israeli Air Force (IAF) has started a joint air exercise with the Italian Air Force, called the "Lightning Shield".
The one-week exercise will feature the participation of four Italian F-35 poachers flying alongside several Israeli F-35i Adir jets from squadrons 116th "Lions of the South" and 140th "Golden Eagle" of Nevatim Air Base.
“The exercise is a significant milestone in establishing cooperation between the military, while strengthening the unique relationship between countries,” said a statement by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), adding that “the exercise will contribute to improving the operational competence of the F-35i Adir matrix and expanding its capabilities to possible operational scenarios.”

The 122nd Nachson Squadron, which flies with the Gulfstream G-500 aircraft, will also participate in the exercise.
In the last two years, Israeli F-35s have participated in several international exercises focused on poaching.
In March 2020, despite the coronavirus pandemic, IAF pilots flew F-35s alongside the Americans in the Enduring Lightening training exercise, when Israeli F-35i Adir aircraft from IAF 140th and 122nd squadrons trained alongside F-35s of the 34th USAF Fighter Squadron.
Tumblr media
The following year, in June, six F-35i Adir poachers were sent to Italy as part of the multinational Falcon Strike 2021 exercise. Along with the F-35s of the 140th Squadron, Israel sent F-16A/Bs from the 116th Squadron, G550s from the 122nd Squadron and refuelers from the 120th Squadron who refueled the American F-16s along with the Israeli F-35s.
A month later, Israeli pilots participated in the international Tri-Lightning 2 exercise with F-35 aircraft from the IAF, as well as the U.S. Navy and the Royal British Air Force. As part of the exercise, Israeli fighter pilots also visited the British aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth to learn how to operate an F-35 squadron on an aircraft carrier.

Yael Nachson Levin - Shining Long After They're Gone @yael_nachshon_levin_music @lowswing_studio #lowswingstudio #yaelnachson Whew, it's been a minute since I've had a fresh release from our beloved all-analog label LowSwing Records hailing from Berlin Germany. For those of you not in the know, LowSwing is one of those rare joints that records, mixes, masters, and cuts their records 100% via analog methods and label owner Guy Sternberg has been hand selecting incredible artists to record with him in this setup. Yael Nachson Levin is a Berlin-based singer-songwriter and she worked with Guy to create a "dream band" that could help to craft the album they formulated and wrote together. Maybe most impressively, this whole album was cut in three days, live with all instrumentalists in the same room, and if you've ever been in a recording studio as a performer, you know just how difficult...but MAGICAL, that process can be. The music itself is dreamy, it's precious in a good way, and it's emotionally evocative without ever being too syrupy. Yael has a unique vocal presence that really benefits from the attention to detail and measured approach that the incredible jazz musicians of the studio band lay under her singing and the way the album is mixed and mastered truly makes you feel like they're all in the room right there with you. It's raw, it's beautiful, it's perfectly imperfect, and it's truly unlike any other release I've heard from LowSwing, and so far I've loved every one of them. Bravo Yael, Guy, and incredible backing band! #vinylrecords #vinylcollectionpost #vinyls #recordcollector #vinyladdict #vinyljunkie #onmyturntable #nowspinning #vinyligclub #vinyllovers #vinylclub #vinylcollective #vinylexams #vinyl #vinylporn #vinylcollector #recordcollection https://www.instagram.com/p/B7YpQrWjV-5/?igshid=1mrp7tt16o741

ATBASH
Seizing the Moment
Naso  is often read  on the  Shabbat following  Shavuot, the  festival celebrating  God giving the  Torah to the  Jewish  people.  The  Torah states that at this never  to be repeated  moment God descended  and revealed  Himself upon Mount Sinai (Exodus  19:20).  Never  before had  God  revealed  Himself and His will to this  extent  in the  world before. The Midrash states that until that time higher and lower reality had been separated in such a  manner that prevented  Divine revelation from  descending  and lower reality from  ascending beyond certain points. On that unique day this decree  was annulled.  Higher reality descended as  God revealed Himself upon  Mount Sinai  and lower reality ascended  as Moses, acting as humanity’s representative, climbed up the mountain (Midrash Tanchumah,  Va’eira  15).
Even with the  annulment of this decree,  one further step needed to be  undertaken  to complete  God’s descent  into this  world. This final  step  is  represented  by  the  building  of  the  Tabernacle  on  God’s command: “They will  make for  Me a  Sanctuary  and I will dwell in their  midst”  (Exodus  25:8).”  In  this  final  stage  God,  as  it  were,  leaves the heavens, and actually  “dwells in their midst” – not  just in the midst of the  Tabernacle,  but in the  midst  (the heart) of each  and every  Jew (Reishit  Chochmah  –  Sha’ar  Ha’ahavah; “Inherent  Unity” above).
At the  end  of  Naso, the  Torah describes  the  Tabernacle’s dedication and goes to great length  to specify  each  gift given by the  princes  of the  tribes (Numbers  7: 1-69).  Since  the  Tabernacle’s  consecration took place many portions ago  in the book of Leviticus, we must ponder  why  the  Torah is revisiting this  issue  out of chronological order. Perhaps this portion was meant to  be read on the Shabbat following  the Festival of  Shavuot,  for  its central message stresses that God’s descent  and revelation will only  be complete when we establish  a dwelling  place  for Him within  our midst, inside  our very selves.  When we do, we will have fulfilled the very purpose of creation, as the Midrash explains, “God had a passion  to have a dwelling place for Himself in the lower worlds” (Midrash Tanchumah,  Naso  16).
The  Tabernacle  was  dedicated  on  the  first  day  of  Nisan,  the  day the world was actually  created, as  we discussed  extensively in the portion of  Vayikra. According to the  Midrash  it was the  greatest day since  the  world was created.  One can imagine the  excitement, anticipation,  and  energy surrounding  this awesome event. The Torah describes  how each  of the  princes  brought an assortment of gifts to be used  in the Tabernacle. Interestingly  enough, even  though they all  brought the very same gifts,  the Midrash teaches us that each one came with two sets of intentions: his own unique intentions and those he had in common with all the  other princes  (Bamidbar Rabbah 14:24).
Rashi in his commentary on  the Tabernacle’s dedication delineates the princes’  common intentions. (He notes these  in his commentary on the second  prince,  Issachar, so one might argue that he  does not attribute  them  to  the  first  prince,  Nachson,  but  others  definitely attribute  them  to  Nachshon,  the  first  of  the  princes  to  bring  gifts, and explain that  the  other  princes  followed his  lead.) Rashi  rarely employs the assortment of Kabbalistic techniques and methods, which  he  adopts in elucidating this particular passage, to explain the  text’s simple meaning. His concentrated  use of such  methods here  alerts  us to the  very deep  meanings alluded  to by the  text. Rashi’s commentary reveals that in bringing  these gifts  the princes were  alluding to central  events  in human history, beginning with Adam  and  ending  with  the  Tabernacle’s  dedication.  We  will  briefly enumerate  these  gifts along with  Rashi’s explanation and then  try to shed light on these spiritual intentions.
A silver  bowl weighing 130 shekels:  the  numerical value of the Hebrew words for  “silver bowl” is 930,  which  corresponds to the number of  years of  Adam’s life. The number 130  corresponds to how old Adam and Eve were when they gave birth to Seth.
One silver basin weighing seventy  shekels:  the  numerical value of the Hebrew words for  “one silver basin”  is 520,  which corresponds to the sum of  Noah’s  age  when he gave  birth to  his children  at  age  500 plus the twenty additional  years before they were born that followed God’s  warning  him  of  the  flood  to  come.  The  weight  of  seventy corresponds to the seventy nations that descended from Noah.
One ladle weighing ten shekels  full of incense:  the  one ladle represents  the  totality of Torah given  by the  one God. The  weight of ten represents  the  Ten Commandments, the  Torah’s fundamental teachings. The  Hebrew  word for “incense” has the  numerical value of  613, the number of  commandments in the Torah, when one of  its Hebrew  letters  – a  kuf  – is interchanged  with  a  dalet,  in accord  with the little known Kabbalistic technique,  atbash.
One bull: this alludes to Abraham who slaughtered  a bull to feed the  three  angels who visited him (one of them  came to announce Isaac’s impending birth).
One  ram:  this  alludes  to  the  ram  that  Abraham  sacrificed  in  place of Isaac, his son. One  sheep:  this  alludes  to  Laban’s  flock  of  sheep  which  Jacob ingeniously bred  so that their  offspring  would become  his own under an agreement he had made with Laban.
One goat: to atone for the brothers’ sale of Joseph. The brothers dipped  his special cloak into goat  blood in order to trick Jacob into thinking that Joseph had been devoured by a wild beast.
Two cattle  for peace  offerings: these  correspond  to Moses  and Aaron who made peace between God and Israel. Five  rams,  five  male  goats,  and  five  sheep:  these  three  sets  of animals  correspond to  the nation  of  Israel, which is divided  into  three divisions, cohanim, levi’im and  yisraelim  (the remainder of the  people who are neither cohanim nor levi’im). The three  sets also  correspond to the  three  divisions of the Tanach – Torah, Prophets,  and Writings. The  number  five  corresponds  to  the  five  books  of  Moses  and  the  five commandments that were written on  each of  the two  tablets which Moses received on Mount Sinai.
Rashi’s  commentary reveals  that in offering these  gifts the princes’  intent  was  to  reflect  the  spirit  of  the  day,  which  was  that of  rectification  and  revelation.  The  dedication  of  the  Tabernacle represented  the  culmination of the  Jews repentance for the  Golden Calf,  God’s acceptance  of their  heartfelt remorse and His granting them atonement. In addition, the dedication represented  the fulfillment  of  creation’s  very  purpose  –  establishing  a  permanent dwelling place for God in the lower worlds and, more importantly, in the hearts and minds of the Jewish people.
With these  themes  in mind, the  gifts were  intended  to rectify  world history as well as to draw down upon the Jewish people the spiritual energy created by the righteous deeds  of  the saintly  individuals and patriarchs who preceded  them.  What better  time  to rectify  the  sins of  Adam and Eve, the generation of  the Flood, the builders of  the tower of  Babel, and the sons of  Jacob  who sold Joseph. What  better time  to  draw  down  upon  themselves  the  spirit  of  self-sacrifice  evinced by Abraham and Isaac, the wisdom of  Jacob, the peace between  God and Israel  that Moses  and Aaron achieved,  and the  commitment to the  613 mitzvot of the  Torah. Although we  will not delve  here into Nadav and Avihu’s spiritual passion,  which  led to their tragic deaths on this very day, we should note that their spiritual boldness led  them  to  intuit  many  of  the  spiritual  possibilities, rectifications, and  unifications,  inherent  in  this  day.  While  they  may  have  failed to completely  understand  their  proper roles, they  heroically  died attempting to perfect  the  world. (For a fuller discussion, see  “The Enigmatic Deaths of Nadav and Avihu” above.)
According  to those  who maintain that the  innovator of these intentions  was  Nachshon,  the  first  prince  to  bring  the  gifts,  we should recall that he  had a personal history of seizing the  moment. When God told Moses to tell the  people to march forward to escape their pursuers, Nachshon did not hesitate. He had faith in God and jumped into  the sea. He had the courage  to  continue advancing  until the  waters  reached  his  nostrils  and  the  sea  finally  split.  Although we must temper this spiritual boldness with the lesson learned from Nadav and Avihu’s actions and not act with undue passion, there  are nevertheless  times  in our lives  when  truly great spiritual opportunities  present themselves. Events and circumstances align themselves  in such a  way that those who take the initiative may accomplish tremendous rectifications.
For example, two people who have been quarreling for  a long  time may  find  themselves  thrown  into  a  situation  where  they  need  to work together or  where a  particular  atmosphere is conducive to  their dropping their defenses  and  reaching  out to each  other.  Oftentimes  a new job, a change of  location,  or a  new relationship revitalizes people, offering  them  a  fresh start in life. At other times, a crisis provides people with the opportunity  to look  at things in a new light or  to take serious stock of  their actions.  At each of  these junctures people with  the  right intentions can, in a relatively  short time,  rectify  and heal their pasts, breaking through the barriers holding  them back by adopting new and rectified attitudes to life.
This  same  possibility holds  true  for nations as well. Sometimes, after many years of enmity, loathing, and war, dramatic events create an  atmosphere where radical change is possible. Although it certainly  did  not resolve  or fully rectify  the  long and sometimes torturous  relationship between the Jewish people and the world, the birth of the  State of Israel can be seen  as a radical departure  from previous relationship patterns. Indeed,  with the obvious  exception of the  Arab and Moslem worlds, the  Jewish  people’s relationship with  the  world  has  been  altered  for  the  better.  And  a  rectification  of the  relationship with  the  Arab and Moslem  worlds will also come  in good time.
On an  even grander scale, the possibility  always  exists of  the entire  world undergoing a radical change.  After being  confronted with events or circumstances far  beyond the norm, the chance for  a permanent change in how the  world conducts  its affairs  and nations relate to  one another may  arise. The words of  the prophets are full  of allusions and explicit prophecies  predicting events that will usher in the  Messianic  era.  Then,  and  only  then,  will  the  full  rectification  and healing of the world occur.
When  the  princes  brought their  gifts, they  were  focused  on the opportunity for repair and atonement inherent in that day. How much the  princes and Nadav and Avihu were  able to accomplish we may never  know, but they remain beacons of shining light suggesting the paths we may  choose to  take. May we always  be ready and willing  to seize  the moment and maximize its full potential. (Part of  this insight was  discussed in  Return  Again:  The  Dynamics  of Reincarnation,  pp. 131-135.)

Re: Israel quitting Eurovision forever?
In short, no. In detail, see below.
Since I’ve been asked by a couple of European friends & have seen general confusion AND misinformation on tumblr regarding Ofer’s Nachson goodbye message (even from fellow Israelis themselves) so here’s your favourite neighbourhood Israeli with the some facts:
1. Nope, we are not quitting Eurovision. It’s just the channel that used to broadcast Eurovision (and also choose contestants) was shut down right after broadcasting the Eurovision finale. The channel was was shut down due to low rating & being financially unprofitable. (It was the state’s broadcasting, therefore government-owned, public and free). So it was them saying goodbye to Eurovision bc it’ll be the last time they broadcast Eurovision.
2. It will be replaced by Kan (=כאן) (Public Broadcasting Corporation) (Who are already up on the internet and are very diverse and inclusive, both in having journalists from different backgrounds and in having completely different political opinions).
However, the problem that Kan will broadcast news in a different platform, which means they cannot be a member of the EBU and therefore, for the time being, cannot participate/broadcast. The reason why they aren’t up yet and why they’d have to broadcast news separately IS because of a shitty government and honestly it’s quite an ongoing debate issue here and we might actually go to elections (again) over it. (Which actually has me pumped bc fuck our government).
3. That being said, our freedom of information and of speech are NOT being taken from us, at least not yet. So no worries for now. (And in all honestly I don’t think they will bc we’ll fight hard over them, if there’s one thing we Israelis love doing is complaining and we’ll fight to the death over the right of complaint, so I am not really worried about that.)
4. Seeing as for now we don’t have a channel that’s part of the EBU or can apply to become a part & knowing how fucking LONG bureaucratic things take here, we may end up not participating next year, but we’ll surely be back the year/s afterwards.
Sources, in addition to the wiki presented above: 1, 2 (in Hebrew, sorry, but I summarised the important bits of them here).
5. I’ve seen so many worried posts about it and so many people from so many different countries saying they’ll miss us and honestly that was so touching, bless you guys, thank you all so much <333 We did not expect it at all :’3
@lesmiserabelles @tveckling @baal-zvuv and probably others that asked me about this but I forgot, feel free to reblog / tag ppl who might find this information useful.
