Please stop infantlizing autistic people
Stop being weirded out when we cuss. Stop being weirded out when we talk about nsfw topics. Stop being weirded out when we are semiverbal or nonverbal.
We can smoke too, we can drink, vape, and cuss and do anything normal people can do. We can have (concented) sexual relationships. We can kiss people. We can have kinks. We can like BDSM or have fetishes. We are not innocent little kids.
Just because we have a disability doesn't mean we aren't people.
Just because we sometimes need to live with someone else doesn't mean we aren't people.
Just because we don't pick up on social clues doesn't mean we aren't people.
STOP INFANTILIZING US. STOP CALLING US INNOCENT. STOP THINKING YOU NEED TO PROTECT US. WE ARE REGULAR PEOPLE TOO.

PSA because I have gotten this more and more as service dog awareness has gotten more and more in the past couple years.
I find this mostly to be a problem in like queer disabled spaces. I run into the problem of people, wanting to respect my service dog so much that they don’t really respect me..(?) like they’re visibly like walking on eggshells whenever they’re near me. No one sits next to me or talks to me. I think in an attempt to not “offend me” by distracting my dog when they don’t even know me.
I don’t know if this will go for all handlers, but it goes for everyone I’ve talked to. You will be fine around a service dog handler if you were not purposely trying to distract it. If you’re doing something just cause like fidgeting or somethingand the dog gets distracted that’s on the handler and the dogs training. It’s not your fault, and stop apologizing for it. It gets quite annoying after a while.
TLDR a treat service dog handlers like people and like the dog isn’t there.

“journal” - Jegulus microfic - @into-the-jeggyverse - 306 words

James is leaning against the door frame taking in the scene in front of him.
Regulus is sitting on the living room floor with his back against the couch. There’s a film playing on the TV, music coming from a separate speaker in the corner and a laptop open on the coffee table playing a YouTube video. Regulus’ journal is open on the floor beside him, there’s a book open but forgotten in his lap and Regulus is leaning against the couch scrolling on his phone.
“What are you doing, love?” James asks fondly after a minute.
“Just watching YouTube.” Regulus says simply without looking up.
James smiles and walks over to sit behind Regulus on the couch. Regulus tilts his head back and James leans down to kiss him.
“What’s with everything else?” James asks.
“What do you mean?” Regulus asks looking genuinely confused and James just sort of nods towards the various things around the room.
“Oh… well, I’m watching the YouTube video, but the TV is background noise and the music helps me focus. But sometimes my mind still gets distracted so I like to read for a bit while I’m watching and that helps me pay attention to the video. And then either the video or the book or the music will make me think of something so I have my journal to write it down so I don’t forget. And right now, I’m looking for what I want to watch next and also scrolling TikTok.” Regulus explains like it’s completely obvious.
“I love the way your mind works.” James smiles at him again and leans down for another kiss.
James settles back on the couch and starts watching the film and Regulus goes back to watching YouTube. (And reading. And listening to music. And journaling. And scrolling. And chatting with James about the film.)

Honestly Monk was SUCH a good show for me to see as a young teen I'm ngl. Like yeah, it's not an overly accurate representation of OCD and I'm sure there's things that probably didn't age very well, but OH MY GOD can you even comprehend how amazing it was to get to see a canonically disabled, ND, and, more specifically, PROFOUNDLY ANXIOUS badass main character when you're a freshly diagnosed autistic & anxious young 12-13 year old with the only real advice from a crappy psychiatrist being to "learn to step out of your comfort zone or consider beginning prescription medications."
To get to see "do it scared" depicted in cinematic action in both heroic and relatively mundane contexts. A touch-averse, routine adhering, socially awkward, sensory issue having character as a SMART AND COURAGEOUS PROTAGONIST!
Hell, it was pretty amazing (for me at least) to see a character use those disinfectant handwipes every episode! I have severe food allergies and I have to carry a pack or canister with me for when I need to eat in town or when I've had to go into a grocery store and now that there's a pandemic and food allergies are rather more of an understood issue it's not all that weird a thing to have, but at the time it was definitely yet another step apart from peers and by god was it awesome to see a (again, smart and awesome) character use them too, even if it wasn't for quite the same reasons.
There's things that took longer to germinate too (and tbh still are).
That you don't owe people being "normal and easy". Yes, you have to be cognizant of their needs, boundaries, and how your behavior affects them, but it's still okay to need help and to do things in odd ways and have unusual needs.
That sometimes you're going to fail, do things badly, not be able to be as reasonable as you logically know you should. That logic can't always beat fear even when it should, and that it doesn't make YOU a failure, it means you have to try again another time or try differently.
And that sometimes people aren't as good for you as they seem, no matter how much history you have, and it hurts, it truly does, but sometimes it leads you to connect, by pure chance, with a compassionate stranger, and time will make the disparities between them clearer to the point that when you look back you don't know how you ever thought they were your ally just because they put up with your problems

Overstimulated Villain
Please give me credit if reposted! Thanks! 🙂
Villain’s POV
Everything was too much. Their heart pounded in their chest as a panicky feeling washed over them. Dodging the Hero’s fists swinging at them they made quick work and hit the Hero in the stomach. The Hero wheezed doubling over from the impact.
Their henchmen approached them from the sidelines “Sir, are you alright? Do you need to take a break? I have extra clothes if your uniform is too uncomfortable. I have your headphones. Do you need anything?”Henchmen was always looking out for Villain and they appreciated that, but sometimes henchmen gave Villain too many options and asked too many questions. “No! I’m fine! Leave me alone!” Villain snapped and turned their attention back towards Hero, who had pulled themself together and was looking at Villain like they were a puzzle. Villain didn’t know what to make of the look Hero was giving them, so they ignored it.
“Are we fighting or what Hero? Let's get this over with!” Their voice sounded sharp like the knives they used to take care of the people who were not to their liking.
Hero responded by shoving them into the brick wall of a building. The Hero held them there with their hands on the Villain’s shoulders, eyes studying them carefully. “Is something bothering you?” The Hero asked gently “I'm fine,” Villian whispered avoiding Hero’s eyes as they blinked back tears. Hero asked again “Is there something bothering you?” Hero took a minute and let Villan think about the question something they wished henchmen would do. “I can tell when you're lying.” Hero added, “Everything is too much.” They answered not enjoying how much emotion was in their voice. On the outside, they always made sure to seem controlled, but it was exhausting, and embarrassingly their mask always slipped.
“It's okay Villain you're overstimulated.” Hero soothed “The fight is over it's a tie!” Hero announced “What? Boss they are right there arrest them!” Sidekick argued, “I got this sidekick. Take the rest of the day off.” Hero said quickly dismissing Sidekick. “Can I have that supply bag henchman?” Hero asked their henchmen. Henchmen, the obedient little thing, did as they were asked. “Thanks, can henchmen be dismissed, Villain?” “Yes,” Villain said unsure. Henchmen scurried off and Hero began digging through Villain’s supply bag. Villain stared at Hero as they searched through the bag and retrieved their noise-canceling headphones. “Would these help?” Villain nodded in response. “Would you like to come to my place and cuddle like you did with me when I was overwhelmed?” The suggestion calmed the Villain slightly knowing how much they enjoyed cuddling Hero. “Yes, I want to cuddle,” Villain stated as Hero gave them their headphones with a grin.
Would you like Hero’s POV also? Should I do a part 2 of them cuddling? Or of the Villain helping Hero while they are overstimulated? Let me know! Thanks, for reading! 🙂
