TEMPONAUT TIMELAPSE: temponaut timelapse is a youtube channel that shows time lapses of all sorts of things, namely food going bad & rotting. depending on how "extreme" you want to push your horror, if you want to look into decomposition or more realistic-looking zombies, this is a perfect resource to see the behavior of tissue in the cycle of life (the guy leaves steaks out pretty often lol) insect activity is not to be ignored & is actually really interesting!

BALISTIC DUMMY TESTS: if u ever watched mythbusters or deadliest warrior youll remember the gel torsos they used to demonstrate weapon effectiveness; these dummies are pretty realistic & excellent reference for what goes splat & where! you can find tons of balistic dummy test videos on youtube as well, they put those things through all sorts of wacky tests lol & you can get a fabulous look at body behavior in a high velocity impact environment.

FORENSIC ENTOMOLOGY: to go back to my 1st bulletpoint, this is the explicit study of insect activity as it relates to human decomposition - again very handy knowledge if you want to do rot or zombies or whathaveyou. this field of study is actually really amazing as it's an incredibly useful tool in solving crimes of homicide where the body may have been moved! there are tons of word-only books that detail insect activity & the species of insects that participate in this part of the cycle of life; there are also a few documentaries on it, but i would not view those unless you plan on going into any kind of field of study where you will be attending to the deceased. these documentaries are filmed with utmost respect but still are incredibly intense things to see. word-only books will do you just fine in imparting the knowledge!

listen, there was a 5 month period in 2023 where basically all my nutrient intake was via nutrient drinks like ensure and coffee that was half creamer (per my nutritionist) because i had a recurring bowel obstruction issue and i was more likely to keep liquid down than anything solid. as someone who has had food issues for the bulk of my life, to the point where the "joke" was that i hated eating (it was not a joke), living off nothing but nutrient slurry was the most miserable soul sucking thing i have ever gone thru

i bounced back FAR more interested in cooking and for the first time in my life i truly appreciate and enjoy eating. i dont fuck with food that doesnt taste good because its not worth the misery

if you dont know HOW to make food taste good (because it is a science, and not widely taught), there are a ton of books. i haven't read them yet but i have several of America's test kitchen's books in my tbr, recced by someone with similar food issues and described as basically a text based mythbusters for food. they get into the nitty gritty of why things work and how their previous attempts failed. good eats with alton brown (or basically anything with alton brown) is also a fantastic resource for learning the science of flavor

another thing to keep in mind is: what are you craving? often, if you have a specific craving, or if something specific tastes REALLY good, there's something in that food your body knows you need. i get midnight cravings for eggs and toast after i work out--the eggs have protien, "good" fats, and are great vessels for salt, and buttered toast has, again, fats and salts, plus easy to process carbs, which are all very important post work out. similarly, in the winter i tend to crave fruit. oranges, which i dont normally like, are the tastiest thing ever; i tend to naturally eat more fruit in summer because its cold and wet, but in the winter its less on my mind so i dont eat as much as i should and thus, end up eating four oranges hovering over the trash at 10pm when i should be in bed

so if something doesnt taste good and you dont know how to season it, the most basic thing you can do is ask: what are you craving? and incorporate the base flavoring of that thing to what youre eating (when it makes sense, ie salting ur veg when u want potato chips, or adding cheese if you want nachos idk) or just. eat that thing instead

Taste is the most important factor in nutrition.

Because you get the most nutrients from the foods you'll actually eat.

So add cheese, oil, spices, vinegar, sauces, etc. Try them roasted or sauteed or pureed, etc.

The actual secret to eating lots of fruits and veggies and other nutrient dense foods is:

This ep was great & all but really if THIS was two episodes (yeah it was great it was fine u can make it two episodes long) then you REALLY should have made the fenton o'connel arc two episodes long. I would have LOVED that. Esp bc Ryan was just undercover for like a day & a half??? this time around? Like last time it was over a year! Totally would have been more fun & honestly made more sense if it took maybe three days, or a whole week. (tho that would be a long time, there is usually one week between the episodes.) & if it was two eps long we could have seen more of the rest of the team & their reactions & feelings & their side of things. Could have added so much, made the plot a bit longer. Not necessarily more complicated, just... more steps.

But this is not about an episode a season later, this is about today's episode. Which was fun.

Anyways spoilers but my biggest complaint for Ready or Not is that out of all the possible deaths, I’m disappointed Grace never actually got to shoot somebody with the mounted rifle, because it would’ve been spectacular to see how fucked up a body can get after being shot by a gun meant to take down an elephant

Lark Liveblogs Lit episode 4(?): The Mortal Instruments

Here’s what I know going into it;

Magnus & Alec are endgame, Alec walks away from his marriage???? Very dramatically to kiss Magnus. I, originally, thought these two were reversed but my mate corrected me.

It’s (roughly???) inspired by her old Draco Trilogy (which I did track down and download, will read eventually) and shares the name with a Ron/Ginny fic (which I read. Mortal Instrument was a very fitting title)

And that’s literally all I know before hand;

Unlike the Harry Potter post, I’ll add my thoughts whilst reading and not just completely after finishing. I will still do the entire series post-mortum on each book, though.

City of Bones; (3/11/23)

Alec is EASILY my favorite. I figured it’d be Simon or Magnus because my blorbo history favors Simons and Magnuses, but Alec has CAPTURED my heart and when he almost died to Abbadon I literally cried even though I KNEW he survived.

Clary, on the contrary, is only slightly less boring than Isabelle. I think Isabelle is badass because she’s got a whip but both of these women is like. Go girl! Give us NOTHING! Especially weird because Clary is primarily our perspective character??

Jace & Simon’s weird little dynamic is interesting. I’m not. Its whatever. I don’t hate it, I’m not intrigued. I DO think Alec/Jace is a far superior romance to Jace/Clary. But also maybe my opinion will change. The little kiss in the garden WAS very cute. Jace thinks he’s so cool and he’s literally not. He’s literally so cringe. His snarky sass is so fun as well, obsessed with whatevers going on there.

Okay we only watched the first like. 45 minutes of City of Bones because we wanted to watch something genuinely bad and it was doing too well. Obsessed with the cast on that, though. We didnt even get to Magnus or Alec because every casting on the movie was good until Isabelle and it was so bad I made my mate turn it off because I Could Not.

I’m on episode ten of season one of Shadowhunters and its not good but it is fun so I’m thriving. Like this show is bad but also its a fun time so we’re thriving.

First impression

I was kind of caught off guard by how she seemed "genre savvy" compared to the other Undertale characters? Like, everyone else saw themselves as the hero of their own stories (Papyrus and Undyne) or at least prioritized their own perspective on what course of action you should take (Toriel and, to an extent, Sans). But one of Alphys's first lines is this:

From her perspective, I couldn't think of why she would see Asgore and the other monsters as the "bad guys." It was interesting that she was the first monster in the game to definitively empathize with us. I couldn't help wondering what her angle was, since she obviously wanted us to trust her. (Though after the quiz show I quickly trusted her more, all the way through Hotland, to the point where I didn't believe Mettaton saying that she manipulated the puzzles and stuff lol)

Impression now

Best character love of my life. She is so flawed and so perfect. I would listen to her ramble about anime I dont care about for hours

Seriously though I think she is so smart and talented and has such interesting connections with all of the Undertale cast!! I don't know how to boil that down to one impression lol

Favorite moment

There are so many perfect Alphys moments, but any time she gets confident like this is just so hilarious and amazing to me. At this point she had Undyne have been dating for less than a day and it's still so obvious that Alphys really is the less shy one out of the two lol

Idea for a story

I have written most of my Alphys fic ideas at this point... OH!! ok so technically I have already started it but it's an Alphys/Alphyne Megamind AU :D (With Alphys as Megamind, Mettaton as Minion, Papyrus as Metro Man, and Undyne as Roxanne. Who Hal is is a spoiler ;) Of course the roles aren't exactly like in the movie but that's the base of it)

Unpopular opinion

Probably every opinion I have about her?? Idk man. It's not even an opinion but she's confirmed to work faster than Gaster by one of the Gaster followers.

Also she IS confident, just not in the traditional ways. She's very confident that her opinions about Mew Mew Kissy Cutie 2 are right. She's confident enough to flirt with Undyne (shown earlier). There's just a lot of her personality that isn't often portrayed in fanworks because she has so much depth and it takes a lot of effort to accurately present her nuances. The contradicting parts of her are what make her feel so real and wonderful though.

Favorite relationship

I really really love her friendship with Mettaton!!! So important to me. They are besties <3 I can't stop thinking about how when he left his family for the first time, she was the only friend and the closest thing to family he had.

Favorite headcanon

How can I have a favorite. There are so many good ones. I do really love the headcanon that she was the one to boost up Sans's powers for the no mercy run. I also like to think she freelances in tech repair on the surface, and also makes youtube videos of crazy science stuff featuring her friends (ex. her and Undyne doing mythbusters-level nonsense)

Oh yeah and the headcanon that she has dated/crushed on nearly every main character in the game. U get it girl

Hello :) don’t worry, I haven’t answered this before so you’re good! We haven’t talked about it together so I can’t answer definitively but I doubt we’d do a break down of the show or the book. Predominantly because I won’t be watching the show and would only read the book if it was a free copy and I felt I had to lol. I am a deeply lazy person, I want to put in minimal effort! I think what we’d be more likely to do is talk about other royals who have done autobiographies and mention it within that or if they made a specific statement which lots of people are talking about we might dissect that. So I’m thinking like if Harry says he wasn’t allowed to vote as a royal we could talk about that specific claim. But we’ll see :)

It was actually really interesting to go back through it because the story is over a decade old but I still realised through researching that parts of the story were a bit different in my mind from how they were in reality.
