"Okay, first of all: I earned these clothes. I used to go to work with my mom. Secondly: Colorado. What the hell do you want for me? You're always picking on me. You put bleach in my shampoo."

"Oh, come on. This is what brothers do. We prank each other." Cole put a hand on his shoulder. Y/N shrugged it off. "Well, I'm not a Walter, I'm a Howard."

"Ouch! That hurts New York. Was your boyfriend or girlfriend accustomed to your verbal abuse?"

"I didn't have a girlfriend or boyfriend back home. And if I did, he certainly wouldn't be anything like you. He'd probably be sweet, and understanding. Like Alex."

Como si la muerte de su madre no fuese suficiente tragedia, Jackie Howard (Nikki Rodriguez) también acaba de perder a su padre y a su hermana mayor en un accidente automovilístico. Así y todo, la joven, proveniente de Nueva York, pasa a vivir un tiempo en la granja de sus tutores, en Colorado, habitada por una veterinaria (Katherine, en la piel de Sarah Rafferty), su marido George (Marc Blucas) y su ejército de hijos: Will (Johnny Link), Cole (Noah LaLonde) y su mellizo Danny (Connor Stanhope), Alex (Ashby Gentry) y Nathan (Corey Fogelmanis). El primer contacto, contra lo que pudiera esperarse, no es muy amistoso: a pesar de saber que lleva consigo una pesada y dolorosa carga por la pérdida de su familia, los hijos de sus anfitriones (no todos) le hacen una broma muy pesada antes de comer. La chica intenta una mejor relación con estos, lo que sólo consigue con Alex y con Nathan, que más pronto que tarde delata su deseo de convertirse en músico.

El tercer capítulo da una pista sobre su personalidad, cuando lo muestra devorándose con los ojos a Skyler (Jaylan Evans), compañero de Jackie e hijo de la leyenda del fútbol americano local Mato Summerhill (Nathaniel Arcand), que lleva el torso desnudo debido a un incidente con uno de los miembros de la familia y un tacho de pintura. En episodios subsiguientes, se verá que su sexualidad no es ningún secreto para su familia, ya que entre sus hermanos hay quienes intentan acompañarle a una fiesta en la playa con el fin de que éste se acerque a Skyler. El destinatario de su afecto, a quien le regala una canción que le compuso, a pesar de sus innegables avances, no parece deseoso de iniciar un romance con Nathan. Cuando, por fin, éste se convierte en una realidad palpable, al joven Walter le diagnostican epilepsia. Dado su estado, su nuevo novio se propone evitar toda posible ocasión de peligro para su salud, lo cual no le cae muy bien, pero la relación florece sustentada en el amor y el respeto.

"My Life With the Walter Boys" es un drama sobre adolescentes que, al contrario de nuevas tendencias como "Por trece razones" ("13 Reasons Why", 2017-2020) o "Euphoria" (2019 hasta el presente), no muestra una juventud propensa al abuso de drogas, la promiscuidad, la toxicidad en la pareja o al crimen, así como tampoco muestra adultos negligentes o ausentes. Basada en un libro de Ali Novak, la segunda temporada es ya una realidad futura.

I remember reading this on Wattpad as a 14-year-old, and then all of a sudden I open Netflix in 2023, and I see it being made into a series. I was so confused because I remember the book being beyond bland. Then I realised this was basically Netflix's way of making a yee-haw version of The Summer I Turned Pretty.

Will I be watching it nonetheless? Yes.

Plot (spoiler free)

Jackie is one of those people who thinks chaos is the worst thing ever, but when 4 surprises hits her in the face like a truck, she feels like her life will never restore itself.

Surprise 1: Jackie’s family dies in a tragic freak car accident

Surprise 2: Jackie must move across the country to live on a ranch with the Walters, her new guardians

Surprise 3: The Walters have 12 Children

Surprise 4: All 12 kids are boys (well 11, but Parker acts like a boy anyway)

Now Jackie Must trade her friends, home and New York City penthouse for a Colorado Ranch, and wild, loud, smelly, dirty, annoying boys with no personal space (even though some are flat-out gorgeous, but still flat-out annoying) All the name-calling and pranks better be worth keeping her families memories alive, and their dreams of who she could be. But could there be a chance for love?

My Opinion

This book was phenomenal and striking. To me this is the definition of a Page-Turner. With every page I turned the more attached I became to the book and its characters. Ali Novak is an outstanding Author (probably one of my favorites), but this is my favorite out of all her books. Ali Novak vividly describes every chapter; she makes you attached to characters and transported me to the world of Colorado. There were many moments when I couldn’t put this book down. I believe this book needs more hype than it already gets. This book was certainly unforgettable and make me feel happy, sad, angry, and excited at the same time. I wish there was a follow up off this book, Because the ending was a bit of a disappointment and I wish that there was more to the story!

You will like it if…

You will certainly enjoy this book if you love a cute, fluffy, contemporary romance with a bit of drama you must 100% try it out.

My life with the Walter boys by Ali Novak Arghhh! This book had me from the start and then I had to put it down and take a break and then I picked it back up and never felt more satisfied with an ending. I liked the book a lot even though it felt a bit short and a little flat at some parts. I kinda feels like there could be a sequel but only of she wants to. I do wish we could have seen more of some characters because 15 people in one house plus all of their friends and it felt like she pushed a lot of characters aside to quickly. If a sequel does happen I want more from each character. Overall the book is good if you can get over eye rolling scenes. I recommend to those who like Miranda Kenneally.
