one of the reasons i object to the random assignation of words like "mythology" and "folklore" to some medieval literature (and by random i mean interchangeably and with no real consideration of what they mean) is that when you look at what gets called mythology and what gets acknowledged as literature, it's very othering, it's very noticeable that english and french material generally gets to be literature* and lit in celtic languages is folklore, and it often obscures the actual historical context of that material. in particular it obscures the literate, learned institutions that produced that literature whether courtly or ecclesiastical in favour of attributing it to some nebulous voice of the people that ignores the complex web of influences and powers that shaped those stories

if chaucer isn't folklore then a fourteenth century irish text isn't either. if shakespeare isn't folklore then a sixteenth century irish text isn't either. etc etc. the anonymity of the author does not make it any less a self consciously literary production within a learned environment with influences from classical and contemporary literature written to support political aims or to respond to contemporary events

folklore exists, and is not these texts (it does a disservice to folklore and folklorists to assume you can approach them in the same way methodologically tbh!). mythology exists, and is a difficult-to-discern thread that runs through some of these texts (i find the dindsenchas elements particularly convincing as mythological, but otherwise it's hard to identify what's what, particularly when authors are making classical allusions all the time). but what the majority of these texts are, at face value, is literature. the way that they get othered and made out to be somehow more primitive and magical just bc they're in celtic languages and (usually) anonymous really pisses me off

*arthurian material is the exception but this usually relies on some vague notion of celtic origins so it's actually the same phenomenon wearing a different hat

Ugh that guy from when I used to work at Macy’s last year for the holidays messaged me recently and I dread it so much and don’t wanna talk to him. I always question my past self on why I had a crush on him while I was working there. Like I’ll admit, he was chill and he did help me whenever I was working in the women’s shoe department. But UGHHH GOD he’s actually like so fucking ugly and he’s hella short. Like I’d be a bit taller than him when wearing my doc martens and I’m only 5 foot 3. And him being 10 years older than me at the age of 36, no higher education, been working retail for nearly a decade, renting only a bedroom, heavy drinker, constantly going to Vegas (especially with another female coworker who’s a lead but idk if they’re dating/fucking or not), talked a lot about going to a hentai/porn con and that one time in the spring when he posted cropped furry porn on his instagram story. Like EEEWWWW!!! Absolutely a turn off and disgusting piece of trash that I’d never give a chance to. Absolutely NOTHING that I’d want in a partner, he’s like the complete opposite. I’d be ashamed to bring someone like him to my parents and family

i am about to confess. i am a terminal water-drinker SKFJHG i'm not super into sweet things and don't mind the taste of just plain water? so i don't often have any beverages at all, so this list is about to be the most hyper-specific list of beverages known to man 😂

hot water: i would argue this counts as a drink, because most people i know don't drink hot water, i'm just very chinese lol. it's nice! feels less shocking to the system than cold water. i do not like cold water.

taro bubble tea: truly the most bestest of bubble teas. it's purple! it has edible tadpoles! yum. idk unpopular opinion though, every time i get it from a place where they actually serve legitimate taro inside their taro bubble tea, i hate it. i want the artificial stuff that comes in powder form, that is probably like 90% sugar by weight

there's this corn juice that T&T sells that's really good. is also probably 90% sugar by weight. corn!

okay i have to admit that i do like the starbucks coffee cappuccino frappuccino whatever stuff that comes in the sealed glass bottles that you can get. again, definitely mostly sugar and milk by weight (i am not a hardcore coffee person. i'm not even a coffee person really), but they taste really good. i haven't had one in years and i'm not about to break that streak now! but i do remember really liking it.

another asian beverage, there's this pineapple beer stuff that is mostly non-alcoholic (the alcohol % is super low) that is really good. ALSO most DEFINITELY 90% sugar by weight, i swear it tastes kinda like caramel and nothing like pineapple. still good tho!

hi! i'm american and i have Answers. our trash does get sorted and some of it recycled, it doesn't all get dumped in landfills and you're not meant to intentionally dump it down the sink. garbage disposals are for any solid food that might go down your drain (like if you're rinsing off dishes or something), it shreds it so it won't clog up your pipes. also, while it is definitely an American Thing, lots of homes don't have one; i'm 25 and i don't think i've ever lived in a home with a garbage disposal.

Ahhhh thank you so much!! That makes a lot more sense and I feel a little less ignorant now! We usually use harsh chemicals down the drain to unclog it when that happens, and I'm sure that's not the best either :')
