You know what? I have become a gaylor sympathiser

This is going to be a long post, sorry! Please read the full post before even thinking about commenting.

Over the past few days I’ve seen a few posts on my dash about taylor swift and her fans that have left a bad taste in my mouth.

I know that a lot of people think that some fans of her are “trying to make her gay” and I just wanted to put the record straight and defend some people after actually looking at what’s going on. And I know I’m probably opening myself up for tumblr’s poor reading comprehension but before I start I’m going to say this:

I do not think taylor swift is a lesbian

Ok? Now let’s have a conversation.

First of all from what I’ve seen most of the fans who talk about Taylor swift and queerness do it from a point of literary analysis and learning queer history. This is a huge part of the community and lots of people have said that they never would have learnt so much about queer history without reading taylor swift’s works through a queer lens.

Adding on to that point, it seems a little hypocritical for the gay site which loves queer readings of books, tv shows, songs, musicals, films etc to be bullying a pretty small group of people who are mainly doing queer readings of lyrics. Especially when those people get near constant death threats. Instead of bullying these people (who don’t think or do what you think they think and do) why don’t you go outside and think “does this affect me? No. Do I agree with them? No. Am I going to cyber bully them because of this? No.”

Secondly, for the people who believe that any speculation on a real persons sexuality is 100% wrong. I used to think this too but I have changed my mind a bit about this recently after stopping and thinking about it properly. I’m not trying to change your mind at all I just want you to stop and think for a minute.

If you only get mad when speculation is queer in nature, then maybe think about that for a minute. Why is it totally wrong to think a person might be queer. We probably do it in our daily lives with people we know and they likely do it with us, back in the day that’s how queer people found each other-by speculating on sexuality. Would you be upset if you found out someone that you know thought you might be queer? I wouldn’t, maybe you would but if you would, why? Why is it terrible to think someone might be queer (this is NOT about hounding a person to admit to being queer like shawn mendes, this is just thinking in your head and on your small blog that the person will likely never see). Also this is literally the website where we talk about historical (real people) being gay even when they would have never said something to the equivalent.

An addition to this point before people start saying in the comments is that this is NOT the same situation as with kit connor. The issue there was people assuming that he was straight and taking that role away from a queer person. Speculating that he was queer was the opposite of what happened in that situation. So this is not an example of what happens when you speculate queerness.

Final things to say:

1) don’t believe every post you see with someone looking insane about taylor swift being gay, a lot of them are fake.

2) before anyone says “they should listen to real queer artists instead” most of them very much do. There’s a lot of fans of Hayley kiyoko, girl in red, Janelle monae, tegan and sara, zolita, kehlani etc.

3) there are some queer flags that are there. Sorry but there are. Hairpin drops, lavender, the ladder, flag colours, songs about women, friend of dorothy reference. Whether they are intentional is a different matter.

4) shipping real people is not what is happening for the majority of the people in the community. Also this comes back to queer vs straight again. Plenty of swifties ship taylor with men she’s been seen with and no one goes into their inboxes and sends death threats even when they are the ones making taylor swift all about the men she may or may not have dated.

5) taylor swift has never stated her sexuality. I know this may be hard to belive based off of how some people act, but it’s true. She has made vague statements which could have many meanings but she has never clearly stated anything. When gaylors get upset with taylor it is not because she said she is straight, it’s because they are getting death threats and doxxed and she seems to either be unaware of it (which is unlikely given how she seems to be a little terminally online) or she doesn’t care enough to tell her fans to stop.

6) if she does explicitly say she’s straight then there will probably be disappointment in her use of queer history and flags and her potential queer erasure (as we saw with lavender haze, with straight women describing their relationships as lavender) and centring herself in queer spaces (like the you need to calm down music video) but no one will be angry that she’s not gay. And a lot will probably be grateful that she actually explicitly stated for the record to absolve any confusion. The main issue would likely be other fans ramping up the death threats and bullying.

In conclusion: these people who do queer analysis of Taylor’s work are not trying to out her or make her gay etc. if you don’t understand it that’s fine it’s clearly not for you and you can go quite easily without seeing any of it. It’s not illegal to read works through a queer lens and if it means more people know about queer history then I think that’s a very good thing.

I changed my mind after looking at what a lot of people are actually saying rather than what people perceive them to be saying and maybe you will too?

Just be kinder to people online please and if you don’t like what people are saying block them and do not engage!

They needed this escape and if they could only get away but portraying it as work, then thats exactly what they were going to do.

So yes anon, you're correct. The operative word here is enough. They talked of course, but not enough. They spend time together of course, just not enough. They were busy, they needed to behave while waiting to see if they would be approved for the buddy system, and so they didn't get to enjoy eo as much as they would have loved to.

charles_leclerc I wanted this to be a cute little reveal but then you called me a stalker so the cute reveal went out the window. Here you guys go anyway, me and maxverstappen1 are dating and have been for several years now. We hid it not knowing what the reaction would be and partly scared we would lose our seats in F1 which has been both of our dreams since we were young boys. Eventually I gained the courage and came out as gay to the world and said that I was also dating someone and the support I got was unimaginable. Yes obviously there was some hate but most of it was supportive and just overall kind.

After a long discussion we no longer wanted to hide this relationship from everyone and why should we? Other people in the paddock don’t have to do why should we? Yes a Ferrari driver is in love with a Red Bull driver and if you don’t support it then don’t support me (or him). It’s our life to live and everybody else has has to just real with it. I will still fight on the track to win the championship and under no circumstances will I just let Max win. We are both professionals and both too stubborn to actually let the other win. We’ve been together for several years and have had several battles on track (just without you guys knowing about the relationship) and it never stopped us then so it won’t stop us now so nobody has to worry about any of that.

This is inspired by that "What's wrong?" "I wish you were a girl." trend on tik tok. I wanted to dabble in angst but this does have a happy ending. I'm working on so many things right now and I'll probably be posting more stuff soon.

Warnings: Internalized homophobia, swearing, angst, fluff ending

You’ve been secretly dating for awhile now. But you can tell Billy is hesitant to even say you’re dating. Every time either one of you tries to get romantic he shies away. You’ve held your tongue for a while now because you’re not sure how to bring it up but it finally reached its boiling point. You’re at Billy’s house. His father is out on a business trip and you two can finally spend time together. 

All you wanted to do was hold his hand while you’re watching a movie and what he does when you try is pull his hand away. You take a deep breath and shake your head, glaring over at him. 

“Tell me you love me or I’m leaving and I’m never speaking to you again.” You say in a serious tone. You know it’s out of nowhere and very sudden but you can’t hold yourself back anymore. Billy doesn’t look over at you but he pauses the movie. He stays silent and you do too. 

“Y/N it��s more-”

“I don’t want to hear it. If you’re ashamed to be with me just admit it and let me go be with someone who will actually love me.” You say, standing up. Billy stands up too and grunts in frustration. 

“I can’t be open about us and you know that.” He says, trying to keep a calm tone of voice, but your anger is boiling up inside of you and it’s not going to stop. You can tell he’s getting frustrated too.

“I’m not asking you to be open about our relationship. I’m asking you to just be affectionate in private. Hold my hand once and awhile, kiss me, compliment me, do anything to prove that you love me. Why do you expect me to stay in a relationship with someone who acts like I don’t exist when we’re not alone together?” Your voice starts to rise and Billy rubs his forehead. 

“Y/N I can’t love you.” You can tell he’s getting more frustrated but you have to keep pushing about this. 

“Why not? Why can’t you love me? That kiss you gave me and this relationship just means nothing to you? I’m just some guy who you hang out with alone and god forbid anyone finds out about it! Why can’t you love me Billy? Why?” You start to shout, tears forming in your eyes. 

“I wish you were a girl!” He shouts back at you. You’re stuck in place, the only things moving are your heart and tears rolling down your cheeks. “I can’t be with a man. Things would be different if you were a girl. You have to understand I can’t be gay.” He says, trying to keep a calm expression but you can see it slipping. 

“I wouldn’t mind being in love with a man if it was anyone but you.” You wipe away your tears as more start to fall. “You are by far the most selfish, spineless, cowardly man I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. I’m not going to sacrifice my life to be in a relationship with someone who won’t admit that they love me.” You take a deep breath and wipe away more tears before leaving his living room. 

“Y/N wait.” Billy says, walking over to you as you put on your shoes. 

“Wait for what? Wait for you to get over yourself and admit you love another man?” You ask, letting more tears fall from your eyes to the ground. 

“It’s not that simple. I can’t let my dad or anyone else know about this. Do you know what they’d think about us dating?” He asks, pushing some hair out of his face. You finish tying your shoes and stand up. 

“I’m not a fucking idiot. Of course I know. But you want to know something else? If you just admitted you loved me and proved to me that you do I’d endure anything anyone says or does to me because I fucking love you. But you clearly don’t love me.” You grab your coat and as you’re putting it on Billy grabs your face and kisses you passionately on the lips. You’re caught off guard but after dropping your coat you wrap your arms around him and kiss him back. 

He starts to back you up into the living room and lays you on the couch without breaking the kiss. You sit up and run your fingers through his hair while you keep kissing, taking breaks every few moments to get more air. 

“I love you. I love you. I love you.” Billy whispers to you. You nod your head and keep kissing him. 

“You’ll have to prove it.” You whisper back before going back to kissing him. “Kissing me once isn’t enough. You can’t be hollow with your words and actions Billy. You need to prove you really love me.” You pull away more from Billy and push your hair out of your face. 

“Give me a little time alright? I’ll need a little time.” He takes your hands and holds them. 

“I’m not asking for that much. I know love takes time Billy. Just prove to me you love me. We can stay private but you have to prove you love me.” You look him in the eye and he looks back at you. He nods and kisses you on the lips again. 

“I will. I love you Y/N.” You smile and he smiles a little too. 

“I love you too.”

I love Boston and he deserves Nick.

I get a lot of flack for having the chaos boys as my favorite duo of only friends. Sooo allow me to rant about my reasoning here. I get a lot of ‘ohhh you must like the sex scenes bet you like VegasPete’. No… actually… Sex is just a part of adult life. Im personally not interested in dick but I do like my characters to be realistic. Being promiscuous doesn’t make you an evil person. That isn’t my lifestyle but I can respect people who live that way. What I love about Boston is his confident persona that clashed with his smart cunning underbelly. I don’t think he’s malicious or narcissistic. Boston is a confident gay man who is loyal to his friends only. Now you might say wtf to that understandable but in Boston’s head he has done nothing wrong except let Nick get too close. Top is like him and in his logic Boston called dibs. He knew he’d be there for Mew when things went down but he didn’t expect everyone to find out about him and top. Boston probably thought he was accelerating to the end to protect his friend. I think this is also why he tells Sand Ray’s ass is fully owned by Mew. In Bostons mind he was helping Ray cut the bullshit. Boston is honest 90% of the time which makes him our most reliable character. AND YET WE HAVE YET TO REALLY GET HIS POV we know so much about him without being in his chaos mind. Do you know how impressive that is? We can also see Boston change from the start of the series being heavily effected by his fights with Top Mew Nick and Ray. He isn’t a 2d boy who falls in love and magically is fixed. While I think he knows what his feelings for Nick mean He intellectually has made the decision to reject him which makes me want their relationship to work out even more.

As far as Nick his oversteps are pretty normal for someone with too much tech knowledge on his hands. Yes it’s wrong. But terribly tempting when you have access to it and see how the world regards privacy as a fiction. I like how Nick tries his best to not fall for Boston it’s extremely endearing. Nicks heart wins out every time. I’ve been in have relationships with people that others say “hey that person is trash” but to me I like to look beyond the surface. Everyone has their own motivation. Everyone has their own struggle with social things so… it’s not fair to judge someone too quickly. Sometimes you click with someone forever changed with the touch of a hand. It’s not some fairytale. Nick wants to see Boston be happy and for him to actually see Nick is at his side. No matter what Boston does. Because regardless of other people their spark remains. Unfinished and true. Honest and Nasty. Chaos.

Together Boston and Nick make eachother better. Boston looks outside himself more often and Nick gains confidence. They do balance eachother out. I don’t feel like one is really the hunter and the other is the prey. They are both Savage it’s just Nick is quieter than Boston so gets out in the shadow. I’m excited to get to the point where they are both chasing eachother and hit into one another again.

9-1-1 airs live later for me than it does others due to a difference in time zones and the wait + avoiding social media to avoid spoilers is killing me so I'm posting this and working on fics to kill some time!!

Hen waited until she got home to open her letter from Buck. It was fairly early in the morning for a Sunday, so Denny was asleep, though Karen might’ve woken up when Hen went into their room to change. Hen sat in the living room with a cup of coffee and opened the letter.

“What’s that?” Karen asked as she came into the living room.

“Letter from Buck.” Hen explained.

“They’re finally letting him write letters?” Karen seemed surprised.

Hen hadn’t told Karen where Buck was or what was going on with him, but Karen being as smart as she was, figured it out on her own, and Hen wasn’t going to lie to her wife and say Karen was wrong when she was in fact correct about Buck being in witness protection. “And letting us respond.” Hen told her. “He can’t talk about any of it in the letters though. Wanna read it with me?”

“Yes.” Karen confirmed as she sat next to Hen and snuggled up to her wife.

Hen smiled and put an arm around Karen, then pulled open the letter.

How are you doing? How’s Karen and Denny? I hope you’re good.

I’m sorry I left without saying goodbye. I wanted to, it just didn’t work out that way. I felt (still feel) terrible for it. I hope you’re not mad. I miss you tons.

I’m doing okay, I miss everyone and LA and firefighting, but it’s not so bad where I am. I’m bartending again which is alright, but I’ll be glad when I get to get back to the 118 for sure.

How is everyone really doing? I’m asking you because I know you’ll be honest with me. I’m sure everyone will say they’re fine, that things are okay, but if anyone is having a rough time I want to know so I can try and reassure them better in my next letter to them.

Odd questions, (you don’t have to answer if it’s weird or invasive or anything) but how did you know you’re gay? Did it take a long time to realize it? What about how long it took to be comfortable with it? How long did it take for you to start coming out to people?

Hen and Karen shared a look when they got to the questions Buck asked about Hen’s sexuality. “You think he’s finally…” Karen trailed off.

“Aware he might be in the closet?” Hen filled in. “I do. And it’s about damn time.”

“I hope he’s not upset that I saw that too.” Karen frowned.

“I’m sure it’ll be fine. He probably knew there was a chance you’d see it anyway and his secret is just as safe with you as it is me.” Hen pointed out. “Your journey might be of more help to him than mine anyway.” She added.

“He’s thirty years old and clearly questioning things. I never questioned anything. I don’t know that my answers to these questions will help him much.”

“I guess so. I’d be happy to share.” Karen smiled. “I just wish he was here to have this conversation in person. He’s probably got no one to talk to about this there, if anyone. He’s probably losing his mind.”

“You’re telling me. At least he’s got a job so he gets some kind of social interaction. I don’t think Buck would be able to handle not having people to talk to.”

What was it like when OJV style first started dating? I’m rereading OJV for the 100th time and I live for early teen style fluff lmaoo them being dorks with each other makes me happy

Aaaaaaa my sweet awkward boys!!! Oh my goodness Stan just bumbling out a “dudeireallyloveyouandimgladyouredoingbetterholyshitdidijustsaythat” and Kyle laughing and saying he loves him too and then they’re texting all “wait does this mean we’re boyfriends now”. And when they tell their families everyone’s confused bc they thought they were already dating lmfao.

These poor babies had NO idea what to do at first, but it ended up being pretty similar to how they’d always acted, just with more hand holding and kissing (simps). OJV style was always pretty much attached at the hip, and that definitely doesn’t change when they start dating, it just results in more overthinking at first.

And ofc those codependent losers were always very give and take, Stan says those three little words first and Kyle considers it his responsibility to initiate the first kiss (day 4 of my Style Week fic those gay idiots kissin under the stars ugh I love them so bad) and they’re both trying SO hard. I will absolutely never apologize for Stan’s dorky ass deciding the best way to impress his boyfriend is to learn fucking ELVISH and what’s more it WORKS goddamn losers one of my favorite things in OJV canon tbh.

As for group dynamic when they get together, Cartman naturally says some shit like “whatever, as long as you too faglings don’t fuck up the broship” (yes Kyle punched him for that) like he’s not secretly over the moon bc Cartman is a shipper through and through. Kenny and Marj are super supportive to the point it’s embarrassing and Kenny ofc has to tease them relentlessly.

Now y’all know a very important thing to me about OrangeJuiceVerse style is the size difference, but they start dating freshman year and Stan is only like two inches taller than kyles 5’7 (little do they know Stanathan is gonna shoot up while Kyle’s done growing lmao angry short king) this makes kissing much easier since they’re on the same level, but come junior year when Stan hits that last growth spurt? Bro gets HUGE and Kyle is at first bothered (until he sees him sweaty and very Boy after practice hehe). Naturally this brings me to the Style Carry™️, which, in OJV canon, occurred for the first time ever in A Fall In The Springtime. And that was only because Kyle didn’t really have a choice and couldn’t say no to Stan’s knight in shining armor complex. Ngl I think that whole ordeal is what awakened Kyle’s pain kink bc being carried up the steps after being hurt in a basketball game was really sweet and Stan was just too doting and adorable. They’re both down horrendous.

Of course it’s crucial to me that they’re super best friends at the root of their romantic relationship. They still joke around, tease each other, act like typical teenage boys and get into shenanigans. They’ll hold each other’s hands after taking bets on who can build the tallest snowman though.

They grow up together, and thus do a lot of learning together. Stans only relationship experience is his childhood fling with Wendy, and Kyle’s relationships have never been more than a passing experiment. They figure it out together, with a lot of (often misguided) advice from the rest of the gang. Their parents probably aren’t any help, because the dads are pretty useless and their moms are overbearing to the point of frustration so they kind of wing it and do what feels natural. After all, super best boyfriends is really only a step up from super best friends, and no one will ever understand them the same

For real though, to make a serious comment piggybacking off this semi-joke, I think fans all around are having a very tough time adjusting to the members being adults.

Not growing up, because that’s over with, but actually being independent adults moving into their thirties. Too many fans refuse to allow them their autonomy, refuse to hold them accountable for things, and refuse to accept them as they are. And I’m not going to delve too deep into each thing, but Jikook specifically for the third, since they seem to be in a spot where what they’re doing is most likely of their own volition yet people can’t grasp that.

Of course most of their shippers see it that way, and I’m not saying it’s impossible for them to be under company thumb to some extent, because age does not prevent anyone from being taken advantage of. However, it require so much more energy to build a narrative that they’re being forced into some soft core gay for pay content, than it does to believe they’ve been best friends for years and at some point might’ve just decided to date.

And yes, Are You Sure? is official content, but since when is it unheard of for a real couple to do a reality show? I’m getting too long, but my point is, at some point people gotta either believe their bond or let it go. Arguing and framing every choice they make as something forced, is stupid. They’re grown men who know people think they are romantically involved. We know they know, yet still they haven’t stopped choosing each other and choosing to do things that fuel rumors.

So it just is what it is, and JK screaming about being free is less (at least imo) about work or social expectations, and probably just him feeling stress free. He is relaxing and having fun with one of his closest and best of friends, so even if he loves his job and the high profile life he is living, he’s still free of responsibility for the time being.

Considering part of the reason Maki and Ouma don't get along in the first place is due to ✨️ projection ✨️, "I hate that I look you and see the worst of what I could be/have been" silly guys who both end up throwing the last thing they'd ever want done to them at each other. IMAGINE the bitter feeling that would come from watching someone like Ouma live comfortably in the life that for a while she thought she wanted. Why couldn't she have had the same peace he seems to? Why was she never to fit herself in a place like that? She wanted to be happy about it. Why couldn't she be?

Sini: YEAH! Girl was forced to be a caretaker in the orphanage she lived in. It was something she was expected to do since she was young, it became one of her ultimate talents. It's part of what defined her….How could she not acheive what was expected of her her whole life?

Ves: taking care of children was the only reason she kept living for so many years…why shouldn't it be the core of her life? why can't she make herself keep doing it? she doesn't know how to live for herself. beyond the parentification, who even is she? but…she doesn't HAVE to live like that anymore. no one's got a gun to her head anymore. so… i'd flee the country too honestly maki on her self discovery europe backpacking trip

Hina: Caring for kids and having your own are so different She just Doesn't know how to be a mother in that way To actually be seen as nurturing Also her having to grieve Kaitos passing But not knowing how

Checkers: I assume it’s been a few years between Kaito’s death and Maki finding out It’s been so long, how does she grieve? She doesn’t know, like she doesn’t know how to face her daughter after so many years apart does her daughter even remember her

Hina: Her daughter probably doesn't She was only two Kaito having a video about Maki He has a couple: "For when she asks about her mom" "If her mom comes back" "If she wants to find her mom"

Checkers: I just had an awful thought Is there a video for in case Shuichi/Kokichi dies

Hina: Oh no He probably has one Wait imagine Something happens to either Shuichi or Kokichi And she just becomes terrified

Apollo: NOOOOOO SHE'S LOST HER DAD, SHE'S ONLY JUST SORTA RECONNECTED WITH HER MUM AND NOW ONE OF HER UNCLES IS HURT/DEAD

Hina: Just If something happened to one of them and she was ready to drop everything for them instead of Maki

Apollo: Maki doesn't know how to feel cause on one hand, she deserves it. She hasn't been in her life at all but on the other hand…It's Kokichi because despite how much of a help he's been in replacing her raising her daughter, a part of her still can't get over what he was like when they were younger

Checkers: I think it’d make for an interesting dynamic too if Shuichi was the one hurt, because Maki would see how capable Kokichi is with her daughter even under that much stress

Apollo: Like part of her still thinks Kokichi won't take things seriously but he seriously steps up and she has to admit he's changed from the brat he was Like she forgets that he's a LEADER It drives her nuts but she has to thank him

Hina: Maki has to deal with the fact that her only blood related family, likes her mortal enemy more than her That. Kaito would sooner trust their daughter with Kokichi Ouma than her

Apollo: It just…Hurts in a way she can't describe. She knows she left and all. She's not surprised Kaito trusted Shuichi but Kokichi? Was she really gone for that long that she missed him changing? Or was she too blind to see that he wasn't as horrible as she thought he was?

Sini: Love Maki realizing that she had Kokichi wrong the whole time And Kokichi in turn coming to terms with how complex Maki is

Hina: I'm just thinking about the idea of Saiou showing these videos to their daughter and when she first meets Maki she's just like. "You were absent my whole life, I know my dad more than I know you." And the fact she knows Kaito better when he was gone when she was an infant just

I'll give my idea for what could happen before someone else makes it angstier than it has to be: Shuichi gets shot while working on a case, so they rush to the hospital without knowing any details, but it's just a scare and he's mostly fine, going to have a cool scar, the bullet is already removed by the time they get there, it didn't hit anything vital and he's stable

This one kinda stumps me tbh. On the one hand, Ned & Stannis are far too similar to ever grow particularly friendly but on the other hand, Stannis isn’t gonna sleep around on Lyanna (he’s barely gonna sleep with her lmao) so Lyanna is probably not itching to leave that betrothal? But on the other hand, Stannis is gay in a very Roman “my god i HATE women i’m gonna suck dick instead” kinda way due to the patriarchal hellhole he lives in, and I can’t imagine him approving of how wild Lyanna is, and what 15 year old girl wants to be married to a dubiously heterosexual stick in the mud? on the other hand, stannis reiterates at several points that shireen is his heir, and he makes it a point to offer for renly to be his heir over shireen, meaning he believes in the andal “a daughter before an uncle” law so there is *some* hope for him?

regardless of how lyanna and ned and robert and stannis all feel, Lyanna is still going to save Howland from being picked on, enter the lists, beat some ass, and get found out by rhaegar, who will still crown her queen of love and beauty. he’s still gonna get fixated on her and since we don’t know how willing she was, it’s entirely possible that he makes off with her even if she says “well stannis is annoying but i promised.” brandon & rickard are still gonna go to the capital and demand lyanna back, and aerys will still kill everyone brutally and jon will still raise his banners and refuse to hand over ned and stannis.

in THIS situation tho - it’s called robert’s rebellion for a reason. for all his many failings as a ruler, a husband, a father, and a brother, robert was the perfect figurehead for this rebellion. he was military minded, thick as a castle wall, charming, and had distant valyrian blood. stannis has the valyrian blood and that’s about it. i think stannis is smart enough to get through the beginning of the war but we don’t know why the smallfolk decided to help robert in the battle of the bells. it could be they were just as sick of aerys as everyone else and would have helped any rebel, but just as likely it was robert HIMSELF who inspired that loyalty. even assuming they still hide stannis, is he capable of defeating rhaegar at the trident without help? that image of Robert’s warhammer coming down on Rhaegar is iconic not just for the series but for the rebellion! does ned step into the fight, to save stannis, to fight for his sister? does stannis declare his intentions towards the throne?? given him being a stickler for law, i think it’s much more likely stannis goes for a dance esque approach, and insists they crown baby aegon and have a group of trusted regents - this being the SECOND time a baby named aegon is crowned after all the adult targs have died, and the last in a long line of mad kings, even if that’s what stannis pushes for, with the momentum of the rebellion, i don’t know that the lords would be satisfied with that! robb certainly wasn’t trying to be named king but he couldn’t stop the momentum of the northern rebellion, and stannis - especially a stannis that hasn’t lost the battle of blackwater and had a come to jesus moment re: every life matters with edric storm and davos - is NOT gonna be able to unring that bell. beyond that, every other conflict has involved a targaryen claimant on both sides but stannis/robert are distantly targaryen only. too much infighting and i think that when ned marches on KL to beat tywin there, jon and hoster decide to push for a great council.

and that’s IF robert keeps mace distracted! because robert isn’t gonna sit in a siege, he’s gonna fight and mace is putting up a very low effort siege here - he doesn’t want to fight, he’s wary of picking on side too strongly, he’s purposefully trying to starve storm’s end out by sitting on his ass and sitting out the war. robert isn’t gonna wait for davos and his onions, he’s gonna try to break the tyrell host.

and honestly, even with the rebels still winning, without a king to rally behind, the political situation is looking. dire. who knows what a great council decides bc there are a lot of very proud men jockeying for power in the aftermath of the sack of KL, not to mention Rhaella crowning Viserys and birthing Dany and also, ya know, the Jon Snow Of It All. Robert’s Rebellion ends the way it does because Robert is an excellent figurehead for Jon Arryn to push onto the throne. Stannis doesn’t have the charisma and given he’s just as stubborn as Robert, I don’t think Jon is gonna be able to make him do jack shit. that leaves the rebellion and the realm at large in a precarious and weird situation, politically. do they crown a guy who inspires very little loyalty? do they crown an infant? a toddler? a woman? do they crown NED, with no claim to the iron throne, even distantly? do they call up maester aemon and ask him to sit on the throne while they figure out what the fuck they’re gonna do? do the kingdoms break back up??? without robert to lead them, and with stannis being stannis, i think it becomes more complicated. at the end of the day, if they decide their best option is stannis, he will feel duty bound to take the throne but you can bet your ASS he’s not marrying a lannister, or a tyrell, without a lot of cajoling bc he’ll see them as cowards. and who even are his options after that? lyanna is gone, elia is gone, rhaella is gone, rhaenys is gone, dany is an infant. lysa or cat wouldn’t be terrible choices but cat’s going to marry ned no matter what & i don’t think jon is gonna push for a girl he knows isn’t a virgin to be queen. they’ll want him married right away, but there really aren’t any suitable brides besides cersei and maybe a hightower or two? tricky tricky! robert is key to the rebellion working, without him, it goes sideways!

For some reason, I’m seriously wondering if Brassius is /younger/ than he looks, like…Cyrus does NOT look 27, yet there he is. And Brassius was confirmed to have had physically and mentally torturous younger years as an artist struggling for recognition. I’m not saying he’s also 27 mind you, he’s more likely in his late 30’s, /maybe/ early 40’s if we’re being generous.

This…also brings up the potential of an age gap in his and Hassel’s relationship, depending on when they met. Hassel’s likely in his 50’s (somewhere on the low end, maybe), meaning they might have anywhere from a 10 to 15 year age gap in their relationship!

I’m not saying there was any orbiting mind you, they were both fully-grown legal adults when they met, and all my homies hate orbiting—but it’s something to consider, given we don’t have canon ages for every character outside of a very small few.

Cyrus looks like this at 27 because he's wrong. His storyline is finding a way to mend the 'incomplete human spirit', and yet in his design and actions we see his flawed viewpoint. The narrative asks you to consider that if this is what perfection looks like, why is everyone else different? Why does everyone else look their age, or younger, and yet they're somehow incorrect? It's because everyone else isn't wrong. Cyrus' cold heart is draining him of his youth and vitality - he's too serious, and so it shows upon his skin. He's a commentary, a man too driven and too angry at entirely the wrong thing. He will unleash the literal embodiment of Satan to 'save us all', which is dictator language if I've ever heard it. It's why he wears grey, white and black - at his 'core', where the white undershirt is (the colour of purity), he has good intentions, or at least believes he does; his jacket is grey because he's morally ambiguous, lying to his team with again, what he thinks are good intentions - he's saving everyone, isn't he, what's the sacrifice of some good soldiers compared to that? And it's predominantly black, because his heart, and his thoughts, are literally 'dark.' He's a walking red flag on virtually every level, which makes the fact that his name literally means 'sun' particularly funny. He thinks he's bringing light to the world, but all he's bringing is darkness.

Contrast all of that to this lovely fellow here.

Brassius is physically marked by time because of both illness and depression - he was never 'wrong' in the way Cyrus is, so his lines and frown are a measure of struggling rather than a mental issue. The transformation here is palpable - the man we see jumping from rooftops and being the King of Drama is not necessarily young accordingly, he's alive. He's living his best life later in that life because he never could before - he's been healed, physically and spiritually, by Hassel. The coding here is of a youth unfortunately missed - he was drained of it too, but in an entirely different manner. Hilarious, because as I've pointed out before, Brassius is moon-coded to Hassel's sun coding - he's reflected his light, and now shines in his own right, whereas Cynthia - whose name similarly means 'moon' - is a reflection of Cyrus, the 'good' mirror to his wild ideals.

The difference lies not only in narrative, but in coding. Cyrus is a petulant youth, shouting at the world that won't listen until he makes them; Brassius is a grandpa-esque figure of art and wisdom. He's seen shit, and therefore he's basically every child's adorable little gay uncle. He's not jumping off windmills because he's full of youth, especially when we know from his rematch that it hurts his knees - he's jumping off windmills because he can. Because he's living now, because he's a role model, because he basks in literal sunlight... which is probably why he trains Grass-types, narratively. Needs that photosynthesis. <3

Likewise, speaking of men who are living nowadays...

Here is a man who has also been through some shit - the burden of responsibility vs. the freedom of being your authentic self, who has also been healed by finding his little free-spirited, unapologetic artist husband. You'll see looking at them together like this, the only thing really distinguishing the two in wrinkles is the lines around Hassel's mouth... which is pretty easy to explain away as continuous frowning, when you've spent a good portion of your life hiding your true softness and trying to be the head of the family your heritage expects you to be.

It's a very different and beautiful take on the Sinnoh dynamic, honestly. Where Cyrus and Cynthia are at odds, both fighting for their own greater good, the sun and the moon here are in harmony - they're equals at every turn. One heals the other, and vice versa; they're both role models for young people; Brassius' art depicts them both to varying degrees; Hassel shows up at gym two; Flapple is half of them each... neither seems inadequate at all. Even the skill gap evens up, because they become very similarly levelled during the gym leader rematches.

And when you've got coding like that...

Is Hassel the older one, here? Oh, almost definitely. We don't know any canon ages in Paldea except Dendra, who explicitly tells us she's 25, and therefore, Tulip must be a very similar age as they grew up together. Everyone else is up for debate, really, aside from the kids obviously being kids. But this has all been a very long way to say, dearest anon, that I don't think this age gap's as wide as you might think. :) I think, in the spirit of equality, Brassius looks older than he is, and Hassel does too, because they've both had lives of turmoil - if I had to stick numbers on it, Brassius is early 40s, and Hassel's late 40s. But as you rightly point out my unknown pal, there's no orbiting here. This is a healthy and wonderful relationship of absolute equilibrium, as my meta masterpost on them will explain more easily than I can summarise here. Both of them are utter sweethearts with good hearts, and everything they are is built on mutual respect and appreciation. But you don't usually achieve mastery of your craft, and especially not after early disadvantages, unless you're of a certain age. These two are endgame life material, the 'happily ever after' of achieving true self-worth as well as true love. They stand as our in-game grandpas for a reason. :)
