This is because the exhibit is being curated by different people than it was the last time it was on display, thirty years ago. I'm interested to look more into Josh T Franco and Charlotte Ickes, especially Ickes, who is the "curator of time-based media arts and special projects".
I have a few suspicions here, both having to do with current museum studies and labelling discourse. Either the NPG is advocating for shorter labels as an attempt to increase foot traffic by maintaining an all-ages accessible and lighthearted atmosphere, or the curators believe that this is an appropriate middle-ground between viewers who want to have a thought-provoking museum experience and those who do not. Both of these surprise me for a Smithsonian gallery, who in my experience have never shied away from entire walls of text.
These ideas about simplifying wall text come as a (in my opinion) backwards response to public treatment of museums, and suggest that if only ten percent of museum-goers read all of the wall text, that there needs to be less wall text. This is sometimes presented as an issue of accessibility. In reality, it removes necessary context from the art or artifact on display which helps the viewer learn and think about what they are seeing. If every viewer does not read all of the wall text, it does not mean that they have read none, and every museum does not need to be geared towards children in order to be accessible to them (another aspect of this discourse which i find lazy if i am being real with yall)
Basically, there is nothing that you can do to get rid of the viewer described in the OUT article-- someone who just wants to take pictures of the pretty candies. I promise you they will exist no matter how much or how little wall text there is. I worked in an art gallery in DC. trust me. i know. some people are allergic to reading and they view art galleries as aesthetic post generators. But it isn't wrong to point out that wall text helps viewers gain a deeper understanding for the art on display, and the plaque in question does not.
Now honestly all of this comes after just reading a few articles so I don't want to say anything for certain here but i do think its important to distinguish that the curator's approach to display methodologies is the issue. This doesn't make the Smithsonian an inherently homophobic institution. But it is not a good move, either. The exhibit is up until July 6th. This isn't time to cancel one of America's greatest free public education resources. Its time to tell them that this is not how we want our institutions to be used. Hopefully, if we are loud enough, the next exhibition will not be handled so poorly.
the david zwirner gallery and the felix gonzalez torres foundation in the smithsonian removed the descriptive plaque for portrait of ross in la by felix gonzalez-torres. the old plaque explained portrait for ross' origins as the artist's partner's aids related death, and replaced it with a plaque with absolutely no information about the piece itself, who ross was, or who gonzalez-torres was either. portrait of ross was also reeranged to lay on the floor long ways instead of in a pile as it typically is situated, and the plaque outside the exhibition FOR GONZALEZ-TORRES omits his sexuality, as well as his aids related death. i'm in utter disbelief

more old art!! featuring theo and my human harley fan design!! RUN THEODORE RUN (he's cooked)
im gonna talk about chapter 4 under here so only click if ur ok with spoilers! also its a huge yapfest. like HUUGE. i just want to voice my opinions about prototype because i've seen ppl sort of miss the point of what happened at the end of the chapter
I LOVED CHAPTER 4! IT WAS SO COOL!! i was sooo worried but im glad it turned out good. rip pianosaurus tho..
tldr (for the bunch of paragraphs where I talk abt prototype)
prototype being ollie is deranged because it means he was terrorizing the toys of safe haven on purpose for the fun of it when he could have killed them at any time. he also created an extremely close emotional bond with poppy for OVER A DECADE just to tear it all away from her at the end and tell her it was meaningless (he then proceeds to taunt her over the phone abt it). bro is LITERALLY TROLLING
you cant tell me that final scene w the "ive got something special in mind. i prepared it just for you, and this time you'll never want to leave." isnt some tom and jerry shit
ABT PROTOTYPE REVEALING HIMSELF AS OLLIE... (the long explanation)
we ALL knew he was ollie, but i don't think people are seeing the point of this reveal. it wasn't about revealing himself to us the player, it's about the implications that arise from it. he had been playing both sides for 10+ YEARS. that's deranged enough but not even CLOSE to the end of it
as ollie he had emotionally supported poppy in her lowest moments (as heard in the ollie and poppy tape). this tape also insinuates that (at least around the time it was recorded) the two of them called frequently, possibly every night. he wasn't just pretending to be everyone's ally, he was PRETENDING TO BE THEIR CLOSEST FRIEND THAT THEY COULD VENT TO 😭 he heard this poor girl sob into the phone and tell him about how she felt her humanity being taken from her, AND HE KEPT UP THE CHARADE AND COMFORTED HER, KNOWING THIS PATH HAD BAD INTENTIONS
what's worse than all of that, though, is that him being ollie means that at any time in the last 10 years he could have used the persona to force his way into safe haven. AT ANY TIME HE COULD HAVE KILLED THEM ALL. HE COULD SIMPLY USE THE OLLIE VOICE AND ASK THEM TO OPEN THE DOOR. why is this worse, you ask? because HE WAS LITERALLY TERRORIZING THEM ON PURPOSE.
think about the note in the cart/cave area. a toy from safe haven writes that prototype was right outside the door the night before, he'd gotten past the traps and was just tapping on the wall and staring. they said after he was gone they still felt they could hear it. HE IS LITERALLY BEING SCARY ON PURPOSE???? LEGIT TRAUMATIZING THEM AND FOR NO REASON. HE COULD GET IN THERE, HE'S SIMPLY CHOOSING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES HELL
so thats crazy.. BUT ALSO THE ENDING? in the poppy and ollie tape he says "im right here, poppy. for you. i'll always be here." AND AT THE END OF THE GAME, WHEN POPPY ASKS WHAT HE DID WITH OLLIE, HE SAYS THAT. you know what that means? that means he said that shit to her ALL THE TIME. clearly only the two of them would be familiar with the phrase which is why after he said it, she immediately knew he was ollie the whole time
i feel bad for poppy. she ran off but she was valid for that. all her friends from safe haven are dead, the only ones left are the player, kissy and ollie, but she soon realizes that ollie is WORSE than dead. he is LITERALLY HER ENEMY. the thousands of conversations they had, probably hundreds of times she vented and told him her plans and discussed her life with him? ALL FOR NOTHING. any time she thought she was winning the past 10 years was a lie, she was ALWAYS LOSING because he was GETTING ALL THE INFO FROM THEM. she genuinely never had a chance and i think she realized that
in her dialogue you can tell she's grieving ollie (obviously he IS prototype, but i think she's grieving the thought of him). saying "you lied to me" to the prototype of all people is absurd (considering he's done far worse than lie) but when you think about how she feels, it makes sense.
also the part where she said "this isn't right". again, a weird thing to say to him of all people, but if you put yourself in her shoes she's grieving the friend she thought she had, and she's struggling to grapple with the fact that it all meant nothing. somewhere in her mind she believes "ollie" as a personality is there somewhere, because how could someone be that close with you and mean none of it? she thinks that voicing this pain he's inflicted will change his mind, but it won't. and that's why it's genuinely really sad. that's why she asks if there was ever an ollie. i don't think she meant it literally, and i don't think his answer was literal either. she didn't mean "were you a mf named ollie once" she meant it like "was our friendship ever genuine?" which makes his response both heartbreaking and interesting.
so not only is her world shattered now, most of her friends are dead and the one who wasn't turned out to be her opp, but now he's TAUNTING HER OVER THE PHONE AND THREATENING HER. nice one... (loved the quip after she ran off btw. that shit was hilarious. like bro u made her crash out and went "some friend, huh?" YOU CANT SAY THAT BRO)
anyway think of it from her perspective: everyone you knew is gone, and soon the only 2 people that remain will be too. you can't run, or hide, or do anything. he WILL find you, and when he does he'll lock you away FOREVER where NOBODY WILL BE LEFT TO SAVE YOU. I WOULD RUN TOO.............. plus her running off probably led him away so.. she saved us sorta.
ALL THAT TO SAY THAT I REALLY LIKE THE OLLIE REVEAL FOR REASONS FAR BEYOND A SIMPLE TWIST. him being ollie for over a decade raises many many questions, and suggests very dark things.
hes crazy and the fact he did a monologue means he knows he won. he wouldn't have spilled the beans otherwise...

Anti-Elriel Excuse Translator
"We don't know who Elain wants because we don't have her POV" =
I am hoping Elain is just pretending not to want Lucien and her actions/words for some reason are contrary to her true thoughts that show she secretly does want her mate
"Elriel ended in the BC" =
I am hoping the misunderstanding between Elain & Azriel was enough to make Elain change her mind and finally give Lucien a chance. This will allow Azriel to finally be free to go after Gwyn
"Elain & Azriel are going to get together but then break up because they're not endgame"
All signs are currently pointing to Elriel and that scares me so I'm holding onto hope that SJM will throw us a curveball for no reason whatsoever
"Shadow dance/Spark/Ribbon/Sunshine"
There is no actual foreshadowing for this ship so I will latch onto this word/vague concept and force it down everyone's throat till they are just as delusional as we are
"Elain is a fictional character she has no wants but she needs growth"
I believe only Lucien can cure Elain with because <insert head canon>. It's not her book yet but I don't care. I am going to ignore canon evidence because it does not fit my ship. Don't you dare say Lucien is a fictional character too, though.
"Elriel is too predictable"
I also saw Elriel evidence in the books but decided to ignore it because it doesn't fit my ship. Instead, I will dismiss it and say that Elriel is both TOO obvious and nonexistent
"It's just lust for Azriel"
I can see Azriel clearly wants Elain. But this does not suit my ship so I will turn his attraction and desire into a bad thing
"Elain can't handle Azriel's darkness"
I don't know what Azriel's darkness is but Elain is too nice and sweet she can't handle Azriel but Gwyn can because I just made that up and decided it
"Elain needs to go travel/explore throw balls/ Cassian said she looks bad in black"
Her connections to the NC means she will stay with Azriel which doesn't support my ship so I will ignore all canon evidence and say she doesn't belong here and say she needs to go host a ball and travel
"Gwyn will heal Az"
Idk what this means exactly or how this would occur but it's vague enough that it sounds like a good thing
TLDR: every excuse is not based off canon fact but rather opinion and ignoring the text in favor of their own headcanons.

The lady doth protest too much, methinks! Perhaps you should focus on acing your exams so you can get a job instead of writing 10,000 words on 'Haladriels Make Me Mad and I Need to Make Them Look Bad (Because No One Including Amazon The Writers and The Actors Care About MY Ship Elrondriel)'
Is it not rather interesting that you and valar-did-me-wrong publish all the anon asks you get, but not the hateful asks? How convenient that you both deleted them all! And then you lot turn around and accuse muslim POC haladriels of racism? We know you are liars.
BREAKING NEWS: Obsessed Clown Caught Doing Math! 🤡📏
The fact that you sat there, meticulously counting the words in my so-called "Haladriel rants" like some unhinged scribe in Sauron's library is wildly embarrassing. Did you use an abacus? A spreadsheet? Whisper each word under your breath with a single tear rolling down your cheek?
I don't need to make anyone look bad—they're already doing a stellar job of that all on their own. It's not my fault that some shippers can’t keep their ship afloat and are jumping from one sinking vessel to the next like it’s a game of "Who Can Self-Destruct Faster." I don’t need to lift a finger to make anyone look bad. The spotlight's already on them, and they’re doing all the work themselves.
Imagine being this pressed over fictional elves while simultaneously proving you're the one obsessed. You’re not debunking anything, you're just doing unpaid data entry for my fan opinions. Hope the internship at "Pathetic & Pressed Ltd." pays well.
The desperation is showing. You’re grasping at straws so hard I can hear them snapping from here.
First of all—since you clearly didn’t do your research before launching into this unhinged diatribe—I do have a job. Multiple, actually. I'm doing studies cause I WANTED to get back in school and have this added to the rest of my diplomas. I have validated my bilingual status three times. I speak and read 6 languages. I volunteer in local associations and charities. I run small businesses, I have online shops, I’m getting published for my writing and my art, and, funny enough, all of that still leaves me enough time to indulge in fandom fun. Imagine that! A person being able to do more than one thing at a time! What a concept!
Meanwhile, you’re out here acting like I am the one dedicating my life to policing ships, when you’re the one who showed up on my blog with a full thesis-length tantrum over fictional elves. Let that sink in.
Secondly, I have not deleted all my asks—because, unlike you, I don’t need to play revisionist history.
The hateful ones were posted, discussed, screenshotted, some shared in servers and with friends. So the idea that I’m hiding anything? Try again loser. You’re just stuck in your little echo chamber, refusing to acknowledge that many people—not just me—have talked about the racism, harassement, and toxicity within your corner of the fandom. But that’s what this is really about, isn’t it? You don’t want to acknowledge it. You’d rather deflect, distract, and double down than actually engage with reality.
And the best part? You came on anon because you know if your account was exposed, people would see you for the pathetic little vulture you are—hovering around, aching for attention, salivating over the idea of stirring up drama. You are not some brave warrior for truth. You’re just another pathetic, whiny little coward, skulking behind the safety of anonymity because you know that if your actual account was attached to this nonsense, you’d be clowned into oblivion.
Your mama must be so proud. Assuming she even knows she raised someone this chronically online.
Oh, and that dig about the actors and writers not caring about Elrondriel? You really had to bring it up to try and prove a point, huh? Dude, if it didn’t matter at all, you wouldn’t be this pressed about it. You are literally flailing in rage over a ship that lives in your head rent-free, and that’s hilarious.
People do not owe you a goddamn livestream of their suffering just to satisfy your insatiable need for proof. No one is required to put their pain on public display like some medieval spectacle just because you, a random, miserable little anon, demand it. What you really want isn’t proof. What you want is a reason to dismiss, diminish, and invalidate other people’s experiences so you can keep playing the victim while simultaneously being the aggressor. You want to act like an unhinged little vulture, circling around waiting for something to tear apart.
But let’s be honest—if you hate what I post so much, why are you always here? Refreshing, lurking, obsessing? You don’t just dislike me, you’re invested. And that’s what makes this even funnier. You’re not just mad—you’re a fan. A seething, bitter little fan who can’t look away.
Get a life. Preferably one that doesn’t revolve around throwing a fit over people enjoying fictional characters.
You're pathetic.

Yesss. I've been chewing on this constantly since the game release. And I bring up the game, because not a single character says a good thing to lllario's face! Which is wild. Teia opposed Lucanis with her - "he is a good assassin" - in one and only specific dialogue option, and when Illario has already left.
And if you don't romance Lucanis, he says - "my cousin got all the charm" - in a pie for Neve scene. But Rook's default response is something like - "did he though?". I wanted to smack my own character for the first time. WTF??? Please shut up maybe? Illario is a charming person just not in a sweet way, if that makes any sense.
Well, Viago said - "forget revenge, we need you" - looking at Rook and Illario. Lucanis was more to the right in the scene, so Vi wasn't talking to him at the moment in my opinion. That's why I am always so confused when I see posts about Teia and Viago hating Illario. Like what do you mean? Viago was so pissed because - "antaam on the one side and the venatori on the other" - which he said loud and clear early in the game. Did you know that Treviso would be free btw? It was the worst timing for a power grabbing shenanigans. And Teia clearly spent a lot of time thinking about Caterina's death. She was her nonna! Of course, Teia was mad and called Illario a traitor during the fight.
The storyline where Lucanis thinks a lot about Illario, but doesn't show it to him, made it to the game straight from the TWJ. I agree. It is so painful. I hate it and love it at the same time.
Illario put his hand on Lucanis's shoulder as a greeting after a YEAR apart. What did Lucanis do? Put his hand away after touching it for a mere second, he was focused on Caterina, on the job. I almost cried. Although I understand that it was enough from Lucanis's point of view, that he showed his affection.
I can see this rivalry sibling energy thing. I'm just hurt on Illario's behalf. And I believe that this betrayal was inevitable. Illario was just strong enough to delay it for so long.
Damn, Lucanis admitted that Illario was his only friend only when Rook said it out loud and only if Illario was forgiven. I mean, was it the first time he said something like that? I think so.
And the fight banter? The "you used to be somebody" and "and you never were". Boys, why do you want me to die from a heartbreak?
I shutter into a million pieces when I think about all this.
looking back through my notes on the wigmaker job (TWJ) and if im gonna be so honest, i would've crashed out way harder than illario. the disparity between what lucanis thinks of his cousin and how he talks to him is INSANE. lucanis speaks to him with this cutting back-and-forth that you see in those sibling rivalry dynamics, but he thinks of illario so fondly! never says it! (he does this in veilguard too; the way lucanis speaks about illario to the team is CRAZY.)
and, i'll be honest, never shows it. the disregard he gives illario throughout TWJ is... astounding. he appreciates illario's skill and their relationship but consistently undermines him, leaves him out of the plan, and expects him to roll with it without complaint. lucanis gets away with changing the contracts, being a revolutionary in his own way, doing all of this because he is caterina's favorite--and they both know it. illario would not be able to get away with half of the things that lucanis does.
and they both know caterina want him as the first talon! i just... there's such a lack of respect and a disregard for illario despite the deep-running family ties between them. if lucanis had been able to be open with illario or say no to caterina... but he couldn't, and he wouldn't, and now look at where they are. idk. illario loved him and wanted to get him out in his own way (if you believe he was being honest about that). idk if lucanis would ever be able to bring himself to say the same. for all the freedom he was delusionally trying to offer others he seems very content denying it to those already in the system.

Star Trek TOS slash bits (Season three)
This is my personal rundown of all the slash scenes in TOS season three. I've omitted episodes when I didn't find anything remarkable in them.
-What I count: lingering touches or affectionate looks, clinginess, actions that show a strong concern/familiarity with each other, suggestive scenes...
-What I DON'T count: friendly gestures (like smiling or looking amused when someone says something funny), scenes taken out of context, physical proximity just because there's not enough space...
I'll try to illustrate some scenes when necessary, though screenshots usually don't do justice to it.
For season one analysis go here. For season two, go here.
Spectre of the Gun:
McSpirk The mind-meld scene. For Kirk, this was his first mind-meld, for McCoy the third, if you count the one with Mirror Spock. Actually, Spock also mind-melds with Scotty here, but in my opinion, the scenes with Kirk and McCoy look much more intimate. Almost like love scenes, while Scotty's seems a more clinical meld. For comparison:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Paradise Syndrome
McSpirk At first McCoy is infuriated by Spock's decision to take care of the asteroid before rescuing Kirk, though then he submits to his very logical reasons for doing so (explained with rocks, so the doctor can get it). McCoy will spend the rest of the episode entering Spock's cabin every five minutes, to see if he's getting enough rest. While Spock works himself to exhaustion, trying to figure out a way to divert the asteroid and save Kirk (granted, he also wants to save the rest of the planet, but still...). Also, McCoy tries to comfort Spock, by telling him it wasn't his fault the ship was crippled, and that Jim would have done the same. For his part, Kirk isn't very worried about Spock and McCoy, but that's because he's being KIROOOK!! and can't even remember them.
Tumblr media
And the Children Shall Lead
Spirk The famous turbolift scene. When Kirk feels he's losing command, he first grabs Spock in a panic, and then literally throws himself into his arms, in a half intimate, half awkward scene. It's only when Spock whispers "Jim" to him, that Kirk regains his confidence.
Tumblr media
Spock's Brain
Spirk Kirk's anxiety when he discovers Spock's brain has been stolen. He argues with McCoy just because he can't replace a brain, and is determined to search the entire galaxy to save Spock, if needed. Later, when he hears Spock's disembodied voice, his face reflects absolute bliss:
Tumblr media
Spock also says that he feels a distinct pleasure upon hearing his Captain's voice.
Spones McCoy doesn't hesitate for an instant to use the knowledge helmet to save Spock, even when warned about the possibility of it killing him. And Spock begs McCoy not to jeopardize his life for his sake.
McKirk This... this moment (nothing said):
Tumblr media
Is There in Truth no Beauty?
Spirk At first, Kirk is all gallantry and pleasantries with Dr. Miranda Jones... Until he starts suspecting that she may have hurt Spock on purpose, out of jealousy. Then he turns absolutely nuts, accusing and threatening her, in the hopes that this will stir her conscience to save Spock's damaged mind. The whole scene is actually quite uncomfortable to watch.
Tumblr media
Spones McCoy seems very angry and/or worried when Spock praises Uhura's beauty after his mind-meld with Kollos (jealousy?), and quickly points out that this can't be Spock. Though he's immediately relieved when Spock replies in his usual tone, proving that Spock's still there. It's noteworthy that Kollos had showed ample signs of being controlling Spock before this moment, like making him smile. Yet McCoy only reacts once Spock/Kollos starts flirting with Uhura.
Apart from this, there's Miranda's jealousy about Spock and Kollos, since she perceives their union as far closer than what she could ever achieve. Miranda is in love with Kollos, so Spock functions as a kind of romantic rival, at least in her mind.
The Empath
McSpirk It's like... the whole episode. But there are certain scenes that stand out. First we have Kirk offering himself as test subject for the Vians, as long as they leave his friends alone. Then McCoy sedates Kirk, knowing that he'd subject himself to the torture if awake. But his plan backfires, since this leaves Spock in command, and of course he wants to sacrifice himself to protect the doctor. At one point, Gem touches Spock's shoulder, and through her empathic powers she senses something in him that makes her smile with fondness; presumably, his deep love for his friends. McCoy is determined to be the one tortured, though, so he also knocks Spock out, even if the Vians had previously said that he was the most likely to die. Afterwards, Kirk and Spock gently hold the dying McCoy, with Spock touching his face, and McCoy complimenting him for his "bedside manner". Kirk tries to convince Gem to save McCoy, by all means possible, and has to restrain his strong emotions in order to break free from the force field. It's really a lot. After all, the whole point of the episode is that Gem learns about love and self-sacrifice by observing these three particular individuals.
Tumblr media
The Tholian Web
Spirk Spock insists on staying in Tholian space, despite the danger it poses to ship and crew, for the remote possibility that Kirk may still be alive. McCoy points out the illogic in such an action, and this is one of the main causes for their disagreement.
Spones Spock and McCoy are very tense with each other in the first part. But after seeing Kirk's last message (that pretty much amounts to saying that they complement each other) they make peace, and McCoy apologizes and acknowledges Spock as Captain. They almost get into another argument because McCoy's being affected by the spatial distortion too, but he quickly apologizes again, before collapsing in Spock's arms (and how convenient that everybody else becomes crazy and murderous, yet McCoy's reaction is fainting on Spock...)
Tumblr media
By the end of the episode, they're toasting together and have grown fond of each other. Kirk notices the change and teases them, so they reveal how difficult was working together. However, they don't give him the satisfaction, and even deny having seen his message.
For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky
McKirk Kirk is very angsty and pained upon learning that McCoy only has one year of life left. But he's even worse once he learns that McCoy won't be spending that year with them, but with Natira. Apart from this, Kirk is pretty touchy whenever McCoy is feeling bad.
Tumblr media
At times, Kirk and Natira almost seem like romantic rivals, in a competition for McCoy. Further expressed by their parallelisms: both Kirk and Natira are leaders of men, burdened by enormous responsibilities, and this position has forced them to lead solitary lives.
Spones Less evident, but when Spock grabs McCoy's arm to prevent him from getting up, McCoy looks at the hand and seems surprised and moved by the gesture.
Tumblr media
McSpirk In the end, McCoy chooses to go back with Kirk and Spock, even if this means losing Natira. And he does so even before they find a cure for his illness! His situation is literally the same, so it's a choice born of free will. Besides, Natira knows that McCoy won't stop disobeying the Oracle and thinking about his friends as long as they're alive.
Plato's Stepchildren
McSpirk Similar to "The Empath", the whole plot revolves around Kirk, Spock and McCoy sacrificing themselves for each other. First, Kirk and Spock are subjected to the Platonians' humiliation because they refuse to leave McCoy behind. And when McCoy can't bear their torture anymore, he agrees to be a prisoner of the Platonians in exchange for their freedom, though Kirk talks him out of it. They're both also very concerned about Spock's wellbeing, after the Platonians force him to show emotions. And Spock can't contain his rage at having almost killed Kirk.
Tumblr media
Wink of an Eye
Spirk When Deela monitors Kirk's actions, she notices that he's trying to communicate with Spock. And from this she concludes that humans are quite capable of affection. She's not speaking about "friendly affection" precisely, because she hopes that Kirk will show it to her too, and this makes Rael quite jealous.
That Which Survives
McKirk A bit of a silly example, but Kirk and McCoy probably didn't need to sleep so close together (and so awkwardly), with so much free terrain around.
Tumblr media
The Mark of Gideon
Spirk In the beginning, Kirk looks at Spock with fondness and regrets that he can't accompany him down to the planet, which he describes as a paradise.
Requiem for Methuselah
McSpirk The final scene, where Spock makes Jim forget through a mind-meld, is often interpreted as pure K/S. That is, McCoy is nasty towards Spock for not feeling love; Spock proves him wrong by showing his love for Kirk; the end. But I think that this interpretation ignores certain elements in the story, and some things don't make much sense. In particular, the assumption that McCoy is simply being nasty. First, why would he insult Spock now? They don't even argue in this episode, there's no previous conflict between them to prompt this. Second, would McCoy really believe that Spock doesn't understand love, when a moment ago Spock showed a perfect understanding of Rayna's dilemma? ("The joys of love made her human, and the agonies of love destroyed her.") So, the way I see it is thus. There's a parallel between the love triangle of Kirk/Rayna/Flint (discussed right before McCoy's speech), and the triangle of Kirk/Spock/McCoy. Pretty much like Flint tried to extract emotions from Rayna, McCoy tries to extract the same from Spock. He's been doing it for the whole series, but it was also seen in this episode, when McCoy wanted to see Spock drunk, or celebrated that Spock admitted an emotion: envy. And here he's doing it again, with his speech as a revulsive for Spock to acknowledge his love and act accordingly. The difference is that, while Flint was motivated by selfish reasons, McCoy is doing it not just for Spock, but also for Kirk. His deep worry and love for Jim makes him wish he could forget. And it's this suggestion what finally sets Spock into motion. In a breach of logic, and probably Vulcan manners too, he mind-melds with Kirk to erase his pain. It's a complex scene, but all three characters are deeply intertwined in it, with each caring for the other two (well, except Kirk who's sleeping at the moment...).
Tumblr media
The Savage Curtain
Kirk is absurdly in love with Lincoln, and he has this dreamy, goofy smile on his face every time he looks at him. Despite knowing very well that he's not the real Lincoln. Despite McCoy calling him on his bullshit... Lincoln is just THAT irresistible.
Tumblr media
Even Spock admits that he too "experienced his charm"!
All Our Yesterdays
Spones And how! In the first part, Spock is constantly looking after McCoy and caring for him. When McCoy falls on the snow half-frozen, Spock refuses to leave him behind (despite McCoy's pleas for Spock to save himself), because they "go together, or not at all". Later, in the cave, Spock puts the doctor to bed and leans over him on several ocassions, mostly focused on his recovery, even if this prevents him from searching for Jim or an escape.
Tumblr media
Once Spock begins to revert to his ancestors and show an interest in Zarabeth, is conflict time instead. In particular, McCoy's outburst at Zarabeth, and his accusations that she's lying and just wants to keep Spock for herself, sound like a bout of jealousy. As a matter of fact, it IS true that only Zarabeth is trapped in that world, but McCoy has no way of knowing that, and no proof that she's being dishonest. After this outburst, Spock pins McCoy to the wall in a very tense scene, while McCoy grabs his arms the whole time. And it's only then that Spock realizes what's going on with him.
Tumblr media
In the end, when forced to choose between staying with Zarabeth, or going back with McCoy, Spock chooses the doctor. As he said in the beginning, they go together or not at all.
McKirk Much less obvious, but McCoy is constantly asking about Jim, and tells Spock to stop worrying about him and go find Jim instead.
Turnabout Intruder
Spirk Kirk (inside the body of Janice Lester) convinces Spock to perform a mind-meld on him, by saying that Spock is closer to the Captain than anyone in the universe, and that he knows his thoughts. Once he learns the truth, Spock takes Kirk by the wrist to accompany him outside the cell. Spock touches people more often than is usually believed, but here in particular is a tender gesture, not strictly necessary.

Apart from this, Dr. Coleman seems to still love Janice, no matter the body she inhabits. There's this scene where Janice (inside the body of Kirk) approaches him seductively, and places a hand on his shoulder. From the point of view of the audience, it's one of the most explicitly gay scenes in the whole series (and extra points for Shatner for choosing to play it that way; there was nothing of the sort in the script).

[At the Mean Bean, Maddie storms in with a bag of fruit and slams it onto the counter.] Maddie: Stone, I know we're on a truce until your boyfriend loses it, so I'll say this with all due respect: your fruit is crap. Stone: I know, Maddie, I'm sorry. They changed my supplier, and I have a feeling that instead of coming from a greenhouse, this comes straight from the landfill… Maddie: Well, you should do something! Shadow [walks in with a tray of untouched fruit]: Mr. Stone, if you insist on selling this to customers, then you serve them yourself. I’m too ashamed to hand this out. Maddie: See? You can't afford this, you're getting back on your feet. Stone: I know! I know! Don't worry, I've already taken this seriously. I sent the supplier an email explaining the situation and ended it coldly. Maddie and Shadow [exchange a look and then glare at him] Stone: Yeah, you heard me. I wrote "Best regards." No more "Best regards, have a great day" or "Friendly regards." No, no. When I'm mad, I'm mad for real. That guy is not giving me rotten fruit again. Robotnik [walks in with a box of rotten fruit]: Stone, the fruit. [drops it on the counter]: Listen, you can call me picky all you want, but in my opinion, there's no thing that can eat this. Shadow [wrinkles his nose]: Except for that worm crawling out of the apple. Maddie: Damn it! Just because we're having more animals than humans in this town now doesn’t mean the average diet should include bugs now! Stone: You’re right. Ivo, toss this. The supplier is really gonna hear from me now. Shadow: Thank goodness. Stone: I’m going to write a letter and press the pen down hard while I write so he knows how mad I am. [nods and walks off to find paper and pen, chin held high] Maddie: Alright, that’s enough. Eggman, give me the phone. Robotnik: Get it yourself, you lazy ass. Shadow [grabs the phone from the counter and hands it to Maddie] Maddie: Thanks, Shadow. [searches for the supplier’s contact and calls]: Hello. Are you the owner of the fruit shop that supplies the Mean Bean? Yeah? Well, then the only good morning is the one you have because we surely aren't thanks to you and the garbage you sell. Uh-huh. Yeah. Of course, I’ll say it to your face! Whenever you want! Tomorrow? See you tomorrow, then! Bye! [hangs up and turns to Shadow]: Make me a chamomile tea, please. [goes to sit down] Robotnik [grabs Shadow’s arm]: Make it a whole jug. Tom [walks in cheerfully]: Hey, guys! What’s new? Shadow: Your wife is going to fight our fruit supplier. Tom: I said new. [sighs]: Gotta fence off the town square again…

In my opinion, if there were ever any feelings, they never went farther than a puppy crush based on Mike's admiration of El.
I agree that he definitely thought he was in love with her due to the societal pressures placed on him. I believe that was the case up until the end of S3, perhaps maybe a little bit after that as you can realize a fact like that (your sexuality) and still convince yourself otherwise. I mean, he clearly made an effort after telling the others he loved El because of the blank makes you crazy scene, he just couldn't.
After all, friends don't lie.
Honestly, I don't care too much about what sexuality the Duffer Brothers make Mike. Whether it be gay or bisexual, I just know that he's queer and that is honestly enough for me. I don't think it's likely they'll put a label on Mike within the show but I can see them doing so outside of it, similar to how Noah was the one to reveal Will's sexuality definitively, though they made it pretty clear throughout the series.
give me your answers and your reasons in the reblogs :))
honestly i think he never loved her because if he did he would've mentioned the moment he actually fell for her instead of lying (yes Finn confirmed he was lying), plus Mike nodded when Will said "what if they don't like the truth?" and why wouldn't El like if Mike fell in another moment? (because it's not true, he never fell for her), to me he's so gay, i know he said he never felt that way before with anyone else but i think it's just admiration for her and her powers because he couldn't even put it into words and their relationship is built on forced conformity and Mike trying to be normal and his guilt about not being able to love El the way she wants to be loved, although i think Mike thought he was in love with El until she kissed him in front of the closet and he felt nothing and he didn't even kiss her back and kept his eyes open (after him and Will flirted), i think he did mean it in s3 when he said he loved her but he meant it platonically and El thought he meant it romantically just like how in s4 he couldn't say it to El because she wanted him to say it romantically but during the monologue he was able to say it because he meant it platonically, plus in Heartstopper Imogen thought she liked Nick and Ben but it was actually comphet and she's a lesbian.. just saying
i'm talking about this

I need help understanding Sunday.
I feel that there's a rift between how the game expects me to see him and how I actually see him. Would anybody be so kind as to help me clarify these two points?
1. What did he ever say or do that would indicate that he realizes that he ever did something wrong? Bonus points for addressing his core harmful misconception that led him to become a villain to begin with.
2. Which of his actions do you consider admirable?
Explanation of why exactly I have problems with these points below the cut:
1. His whole thing during the Penacony arc was that, in his opinion, people shouldn't be trusted to live their miserable lives by themself; they'll only hurt themself. Everybody (including Robin) is too weak, and he's the only one who's strong. So they should be forever imprisoned in the perfect boring dream their benevolent lord and savior Sunday created for them. From what I understand, he was going to start with Penacony and then imprison the whole universe under his absolute control. Okay, great, typical "morally grey" villain motivation, very well explained, no problem here.
Most of the characters, as well as, hopefully, the player, understand that it's the wrong thing to do. Nice motive, still evil.
My question is: what are the things he said or did since we defeated him that indicate that he's changed? Does he ever admit or imply that he did anything wrong? That human lives are precious no matter how miserable and flawed they are in his opinion? and how valuable freedom is? How strong can people be?
Because so far I only see the opposite: instead of indicating that he was wrong, he doubled down. He literally told us that he's going to do some research and try again.
I don't know, maybe I blinked and missed him getting in a situation where he has to confront his misconceptions.
I had very low expectations. I expected "I might have done something bad, but I might be persuaded to forgive myself," or "it wasn't me, it was my evil past self," or "it was somebody else's fault," or "I might have tried to take over the world, but look, I helped a grandma cross the road, so that's okay now.". All of these would be bad. And we kind of get a tiny bit of all of these, but only as vague vibes.
I saw people saying that he helped Tingyun for free, and it shows that he's changed. Are people implying that he was so morally repugnant that he wouldn't have helped somebody for free before? Even I don't think so. Is basic human decency an achievement for him now?
His problem wasn't that he didn't care about fixing other people's lives. It was exactly the opposite!
That's exactly the kind of thing he shouldn't be doing as a show of how much he changed.
A moment of growth for him would be if he realized that another person is strong enough to solve their problems by themselves, without his involvement.
Let's look at other antagonists turned playable characters.
Bronya's main motivation is to save her people. Her misconception—she has faith in her mother. She faces the fact that her mother isn't the person she came to love and respect.
Topaz's main motivation is to help Jarilo-VI survive. Her misconception—she thinks that being owned by the IPC is the only way for them to survive. She faces the fact that the people of Jarilo-VI are strong enough to survive by themselves.
Sunday's main motivation is to save people from suffering. His misconception—it's only possible if he imprisons them in a dream controlled by him. Does he ever face the realization that he was wrong? I don't care how many Tingyuns he helped, his problem wasn't that he was unwilling to help people. IT WAS KIND OF THE OPPOSITE!!!
And later on, when he kind of helps us, it does nothing to address his core misconception, the thing his whole personality is built around.
He's not a generic bad guy who can redeem himself by becoming a generic good guy! You can't write a complex character and then completely neuter him in his supposed "redemption arc!"
2. What did he do that's worth admiring?
And I think DH's "about Sunday" line indicates how we are supposed to see his return:
"Whether he can achieve his dream or not, being able to let go of everything and start again is already admirable enough."
(btw I'd like to remind you that his dream was to imprison the whole universe. And he wasn't "able" to bravely let go of everything. He was forced to. By being defeated by us. Hello!!!)
What did Sunday even do? Nearly turned Penacony back into a prison again. Got hit by a train. Lost a boss fight (as a boss). Got saved by Robin. Got what he deserved and what he tried to do to others—imprisonment. Threw a hissy fit, got immediately saved by Robin again, and was freed by Jade. Got accidentally split in two. Told Robin to touch the grass. Graciously allowed us to give him a lift.
DH, which of those do you find admirable???? How bravely did he overcome being a villain?
What would we expect a lesser, not so "admirable" person to do in his place? And he hardly even had any agency in most of these events.
Let's look at other characters again. Firefly apologized for lying to us. Topaz and Bronya admitted that they were wrong and backed off. They made a conscious decision to stop what they were doing after realizing they were wrong. They weren't forced to stop by just being defeated in a boss fight and imprisoned. That's admirable. What did Sunday do that's admirable?
And what about Welt's "about Sunday":
"Having an ideal and pursuing it is not rare, but being able to start anew after that ideal is shattered—this kind of willpower will carry him far."
Gramps, the last time we had to hit him with a train several times to stop his willpower from "carrying him far", wdym?
And I'm sure the game's writers are planning to give him more to do later, maybe dragging him through some long overdue character development (I mean, why else are we carrying this piece of cardboard they turned him into with us to Amphoreus?) Because 15 hours of monologue during Pencaony, plus 5 more hours during his triumphant return, clearly wasn't enough. All these new upcoming characters will move over to give Sunday 10 more hours of pretentious monologue.
But on the brighter side, things like this make me appreciate the previous instances of bad writing. At least Firefly apologized. At least Topaz admitted that she was wrong.
And there is one thing that tells me that I'm not the only one having problems with this. It's the fact that in most dialogues there are options to be mean and distrustful of him.

one of the things that makes me completely not believe in the 'trans women are more oppressed than trans men because they are women thing' is like
where do nonbinary people fit then
because if we say 'it depends on whether society sees them as a man or a woman' then you've just betrayed that the aforementioned belief that trans women are more oppressed bc they are women is unfounded because trans men are also seen as women
and if you say 'well it depends on whether or not they are tme' then you have to define who is or isn't tme
under my understanding, transmisogyny is a form of societal oppression, and therefore EVERYONE is subject to it, the same way everyone is subject to ableism (my opinion as a disabled person). if you want to exclude entire groups from being affected by it, then you have to narrow it down enough that it would be less of a societal issue than it actually is
none of the logic in these arguments really makes sense to me. i don't think you can blanket statement 'all trans women are more oppressed than all trans men' because there are so many other factors that go into that
according to the radfems transitioning away feminity is always good and transitioning away from masculinity is always bad so non-binary people are basically just men and women with the associated levels of privilage

#the heart killers#the heart killers the series#joong archen#dunk natachai#tuserhidden#tusersilence#tobelle#userrlana#userlinnea#vishingwell#zeystuff#gif: thk#you know what I wanted to upload this despite maybe there is already the same set out there... which I rarely upload anymore if I know#but I have things to say about this scene... I feel like this is the first genuine conversation they had in all the episodes so far#as the cautious guy Fadel is he must've searched style beforehand (which we don't see but he must've) so which also means he knew about#his mother not being alive and yes obviously also him working at the garage but this is the first time fadel asked style things out of#curiosity... (even if he knew in my opinion) and style being so comfortable with fadel that he forgot that he's talking to a hitman#it's the guy he's interested in. he forgot for a split second whom he talking to and trusted him enough to tell all about these#things about him which is kinda personal at least for some yet here we are with one who's trusting the other enough to tell things#and fadel is surprised!! no one can convince me otherwise I might be delulu but like i said i believe he already knows all of this#yet he asked and didn't expect that style would be so open about all this to tell him this the 6th and 8th gif tells a lot#fadel is still trying to figure style out but I feel like the conversation here and at the garage where fadel saw himself#style in working mode and how he helps out a lot at the garage and the conversation how his dad became his most important person#added a lot to his trust barometer when it comes to style. he sees him in a different perspective. light whatever you wanna call it#but it definitely trust his view on style a bit. I already talked a lot under my own set so I'll stop

(Hope you don't mind me adding something—)
Adam felt like giving up, the weight of his unrequited feelings pressing heavily on his chest. Every attempt to get Lucifer to see him as more than just a friend had ended in humiliation, leaving Adam feeling like a fool chasing after an unattainable dream. Each moment spent in Lucifer's radiant presence made his heart race, yet it seemed to pass unnoticed by the one he desired most.
The First Man felt the sting of tears welling up in his eyes, but he clenched his jaw, forcing himself to swallow the emotion. Men don’t cry, he reminded himself, even as he battled the urge to collapse under the strain of his longing. Yet, every glance exchanged with Lucifer ignited a fierce yearning within him, a desperate hunger that left him both exhilarated and heartbroken. Adam couldn't shake the feeling that with every lingering look and casual touch, he was silently pleading for a love that felt eternally out of reach.
"Adam? What's wrong?" The voice cut through the silence like a knife, and Adam couldn’t help but glare at Lucifer, whose bright eyes were filled with genuine concern. The late afternoon Hell light filtered through the window, casting a warm glow that contrasted with the tension in the air.
"Forget it," Adam snapped, attempting to pull away from the conversation, but a strong, reassuring grip fastened around his wrist, preventing his escape. "Don't care? How can you say that?" Lucifer's voice trembled slightly, his expression a mixture of disbelief and hurt that tugged at something deep inside Adam.
Adam's glare intensified, a storm brewing behind his storm-gray eyes. "You don't care how I want you to. You never will." Each word dripped with frustration, revealing a pain that had been festering for far too long. The atmosphere crackled between them, heavy with unspoken truths and unresolved feelings, leaving an ache that lingered like an unfinished melody.
"How do you want me to? Adam, I don't understand!" Lucifer exclaimed, frustration lacing his voice as he raked a hand through his tousled hair. The hotel room was thick with tension, the air heavy with unspoken emotions. But Adam was done holding back. He had reached the breaking point, his heart pounding as he took a step closer, defiance igniting in his eyes.
“Fuck the consequences,” he thought. He didn’t care if the guests overheard their argument or if Lucifer looked at him with disgust. The risk was worth it. With a deep breath, he shouted, “I WANT YOU TO LOVE ME LIKE I LOVE YOU!” His voice echoed off the walls, charged with raw emotion.
There it was, the truth laid bare between them. Adam braced himself, ready for Lucifer's wrath, anticipating the moment he would be picked up by the scruff of his neck and thrown out into the cold night, banished from this fragile world they had shared. But he couldn’t hold back any longer; he had to take this leap, no matter the cost.
He suddenly felt a hand on his face, bringing him to look at Lucifer. Adam couldn't even see properly because he was crying. "Oh, Adam...why didn't you just tell me?" He gently kissed Adam and he would have collapsed if Lucifer didn't hold him up. Adam blinked the tears away when they broke the kiss, the devil's gaze hot. "Now...enough of all this beating-around-the-bush."
Adam shivered when Lucifer smirked. "So...are you certain you don't have any other symptoms of prostate cancer?" He whispered in Adam's ear. "Because in my professional opinion, I need to have another look..."
Oh...shit.
Adam trying to get Lucifer to have sex with him but Lucifer is obviously at every turn.
-
“I love popsicles. Licking them, how they feel in my mouth, swallowing.” Adam moaned sinfully, “but sticky drool always covers my chin, dribbling down onto my chest.”
Lucifer looks up from his duck, towards Adam. Sees the sticky mess doing exactly as Adam said. A string of saliva from the popsicle to Adam’s open mouth. His face flushed. He chuckled. Poor Adam must be really desperate.
He conjured a damp cloth so Adam could clean up the mess on his face and chest. “Here you go, buddy!” Lucifer’s went back to his duck.
-
Adam lay on top of him. His voice husky and he moaned out. “So sooorry. I tripped.”
He straddled Lucifer’s waist, laying there with Lucifer’s face in Adam’s soft pecs and chest hair.
Lucifer reached up, grasping Adam by the hips. “That’s alright.” His voice was muffled by Adam’s chest. He teleported them so that they were standing, and pulled away. “Accidents happen.” He let go and continued on in his search of Charlie.
-
Adam gasped as he scrolled his phone. “Lucifer!” His voice panicked. “I think I have prostate cancer!”
Lucifer raised an eyebrow. “You’re dead, Adam.”
“The internet says it matches my symptoms.” Adam moved from sitting at his end of the couch to kneeling and clinging to Lucifer’s arm. “Can you check?”
He must be very worried if he wanted Lucifer to check. So he pressed his hand to Adam chest and checked. “You’re all good.”
Pouting Adam sat back down.
Idly, Lucifer’s wondered if maybe Adam was having trouble adjusting to hell. He sure had been clingy lately.

Maybe the problem with Christian fiction is that it's non-denominational. People are just "Christian", with no effort put into showing what practicing that religion looks like for them specifically. No indication that there are other Christians who could have different beliefs. No wrestling with differing ideas and the struggle of how one should live out their Christian faith. And that makes it unrealistic and unrelatable.

People try too hard to make Curly an active participant in Jimmy's abuse. Isn't the whole point that he's passive in everything Jimmy does? Abuse occurs because he actively doesn't do anything? Not to call someone out or be mean, but I saw a post saying Anya's ID being in Curly's locker at the beginning shows that he intended to prevent Anya from filing an HR report and I disagree. I get where that interpretation is coming from, but I think it's a little uncharitable. I don't like being too kind to Curly because he's like...a morally mid dude at best lol But if we're going by the HR report interpretation, I would say it's more likely he requested Anya's ID in order to file an HR report on her behalf. After all, the only way to contact Pony (that we see) is in the cockpit, he's the Captain, and Pony Express sucks bad so I wouldn't put it past them to only allow the Captain to use the communication device thing. As we see before, Curly is the only one able to use tools around the ship that you would think other employees could use (ex. Swansea should be able to use the axe if he's the repair guy. Idk why they'd need an ax but that falls under manual labor which Swansea is designated for as the mechanic/fixer dude. But it has to go through Curly). I never got the vibe that Curly moved to actively protect Jimmy. He just lets things happen without say a word; Jimmy walks all over him, and by extension, the whole crew. I get why people would think that because he gives the whole "Hey Jimmy, we can get through this together, bud" spiel right before the crash. This part interests me a lot because there's so many ways to interpret Curly's intentions there. My interpretation is that Curly is on autopilot mode. The responses seem so stilted in comparison to Jimmy's. Like it's the kind of thing Curly's said before again and again and again when Jimmy's gotten in trouble. However, as others previously pointed out, I don't think Curly ever dealt with Jimmy doing something this irredeemable. He doesn't know how to respond, so he just goes for the default "You've gotten through tough situations before. Work through it one step at a time." Like the response is lame af lol I think he was in shock; he was scared (and just so I can say it one more time: he's super lame).
Anyway, this is way longer than I intended and I've said things a billion people have already stated. But uhhh tldr the whole point of Curly's character is he's passive; he never acts. He just watches. Making him an active participant in the abuse by taking actions to cover for Jimmy (like preventing Anya from filing an HR report) defeats the purpose of his character. He's a bystander.
#and I'm defining active as in like consciously taking actions to help Jimmy cover his tracks and stuff like that#because I know being passive can be seen as the same thing as actively participating in the abuse (which i agree with)#I just mean I don't think he's actually intending to help Jimmy by doing anything for him like taking Anya's ID away with nefarious purpose#I just didn't get that vibe#again I just thought he sucked lol like he just does nothing#so idk I just don't vibe when people make him too into helping Jimmy if that makes sense? I think it destroys the grayness of his character#they will never make me have a strong opinion of you Curly#but he is fine as hell ok lol I am not immune to buff blonde man#also like I hope this doesn't come off as mean to the person I'm referencing with the ID take if they see it#I just was thinking about their interpretation and was like ehhh i don't know if i agree and wanted to respond on my lil side account ;p#mouthwashing#curly mouthwashing#captain curly#anya mouthwashing#jimmy mouthwashing#ok and I could see people saying he actively covers for him by doing the psych eval for him and being like uhhhh good enough lmao#but to me that's him trying to placate any issues between crewmembers on his ship esp. when it comes to Jimmy#which just falls under the bystander thing because he'll do the bare minimum to keep things peaceful#but when it comes to doing anything he's just like whelp idk what I can do and just stands there#he's so cool#ok also I realize they need the ax for the foam I just forgot about that lmao#i was a little tipsy when I wrote this plz forgive hahaha I just meant like an ax isn’t like normally in a mechanic’s tool kit lmao#adding a link to the Twitter post I mention so people can refer back to it if they’d like
