of course viktor knows what having jayce's last name and being called his partner looks like, has told jayce what it looks like, but jayce just shrugged and said they're not actually so really it's not a problen, that's just a weird rumor. viktor shakes his head and lets him be, he knows what the consequences of jayce not thinking this through will bite him in the ass later

and it does lol because the first time jayce gets together w/ someone, people thinks he's a cheater and they're convinced of that when jayce gets together w/ other people. has a partner but is a serial cheater? oh, fuck no

(when people from the undercity hear of viktor they're proud of him, that's their man of progress! so when they hear abt what jayce is doing well. the people of the undercity heavily dislike jayce) (viktor is seen as the similarly brilliant inventor but not equal to jayce bc he's the poor spouse suffering his husband's infidelity w/ dignity. is it not so tragic yet so admirable?! yes, there's lurid penny dreadfuls of him and jayce both in piltover and in zaun and yes, sky has seen them and... yes, she has bought and read them)

(and of course mel knows, this is a public relations disaster unseen before! but... mel won't help bc jayce brougut this onto himself and... mel finds it all so funny lol she is delighted when sky starts handing her penny dreadfuls abt the men of progress. is this why councilor hoskel likes bribes?)

it finally comes to a head at a party when a man asks viktor if he's ok with jayce flirting w/ someone and it takes the implication of jayce being unfaithful that viktor gets what the man is talking abt. viktor is... amused, and tells the man that jayce can do whatever he wants, it is, what do people say? an open relationship. and the man pauses. then if it's an open relationship... the man looks viktor over, can i bring you home?

viktor pauses. he probably shouldn't, he's already said enough w/ the open relationship thing and this will fuel it. but this man is rather handsome... viktor says yes and the next morning, everyone is in a tizzy. it was open rationship after all?! so scandalous! yet... so intriguing, is it bc viktor talis is a zaunite?

and it's like the flood gates have opened bc after it, whenever viktor goes to a party, men start propositioning him left, right and center. viktor is baffled, he knows he's attractive but this is a bit much isn't it? he rejects most of them and somehow that just makes men want him more. bc of course the zaunite man of progress is picky! he's beautiful and brilliant and he won't be satisfied so easily!

and it escalates even further, when a man flirts w/ viktor. in front of jayce. well. not actually in front of jayce, jayce was approaching viktor when he overheard it but! it's the same thing, ok, it's the same thing! jayce pauses, his mind jerking to a stop as if it's hit a bump in the road. he knows where viktor's interest lies, he has heard of what people have been saying after all! but it's so different to actually hear it. even more different when he overhears the low and considering note in viktor's voice. jayce is listening intently to viktor's conditions (clothes on, don't touch me w/out me telling you, you don't move without me telling you, don't come inside me unless i allow you too, do you understand? good boy)

viktor and jayce both go home. viktor w/ his admirer in tow and jayce w/ his head filled w/ viktor's voice. jayce can't stop thinking abt it. he admires viktor, is pleased viktor is getting the credit and praise he deserves but... this is something else. there's something hot and heavy in his chest when he thinks abt the men that viktor has allowed in his bed. and oh, this is bad, jayce knows this is bad

Absolutely love the idea of the tradition of trading locks of hair amongst people you care about. The idea of having two strands of your hair embracing one of theirs. Chopping it off as a sign of betrayal/vengeance.

I have this polycule where one of my oc’s that I live vicariously through has two partners and a missing brother. I like to think that it’s a tradition their brother started with them when he left on his first voyage and he’s been missing six years. I like to think that they passed that tradition on to their partners and maybe even their crew. They still only has two braids, one with their brother’s hair and one with both their partner’s hair.

I also have an oc from a backstory of my owlin d&d character that has a lock of their half-elf deceased spouse braided in his hair. He’s a dwarf who took her in when she was stealing from him.

Anyway, just throwing this into the aether. I do have ideas for certain ships I think would have this dynamic. Everlasting Trio most likely. Possibly Everlasting Insomniacs. Either romantic or platonic Team Seven. Honestly platonic Sannin I could see as well. I could see Spike allowing a small bit to grow out to have a rat tail or a temple braid with Buffy’s hair and she would have some of his braided behind her left ear because he’s always covering that side of her. They both probably would also have braids with Dawn maybe.

I feel like it has to be a soul-deep love that gets these braids. Anyway, it’s bed time. I’m gonna tag everything mentioned in this post in the hopes that somebody picks it up and runs with it.
