"Dude, you are crazy," Mark exclaimed. "Now, you can't play with the team for a month." Yuta just shrugged. It was just probation, a warning against what he did earlier. Honestly, it was all worth it especially when he found out that the coach was relieved from his job. Some parents complained that his son is indeed a bully and the coach would often abuse the players of the team.
Instead of heading to Germany where the team is playing, he's here in Korea and practicing on his own. "It's just a month, Mark. Don't overreact." He teased, seated on the soccer field. "If they don't let me play again, I'll apply as the soccer coach in the elementary school." The younger sighed, sitting cross-legged beside him.
"You're serious about this girl, aren't you?" Yuta smiled, playing with the soccer ball. "What if you marry her, hyung? Are you planning to have a child with her?"
He lay down the grass. "That's just a bonus. I wouldn't mind adopting Jae and Cherry, just the four of us would be fine."
"But they're not your children."
Yuta glared. "You don't need to be blood-related to call each other family, Mark." He chuckled. "I even call you brother." He took his phone from his jersey pocket, creating a message. "Speaking of which, do you want to come with me to Japan this summer? Okaasan would love to see you again." His gaze never left his phone.
Mark nodded. "Are you bringing them to Japan as well?"
Yuta smirked. "I'm going to ask Y/N first." He put his phone back in his pocket. "She said she's bringing lunch. Just wish that it's edible."
The younger just shook his head that made Yuta laugh. Jae was running to him when they reached the field where Yuta is and Cherry gave him a hug. Y/N was just bowing at him and at Mark, apologizing for the bother but Yuta shook his head. He introduced his manager to the three and the two immediately called him 'samchon' that made Mark smile.
They set up a mini picnic on the grass and Y/N showed the variety of sushi on different lunch boxes. “You made these all?” Yuta asked and she shook her head saying that it was Taeil, the chef in the restaurant she’s working at, who did everything. “And I thought I’m going to taste sushi cooked by you. You got me excited for no reason.” He said cutely that made Mark choke on his food. The older just glared at him but he shook his head.
“Yuta appa, do you like sushi?” Cherry asked that made him nod. “This is my first time eating sushi.”
Really though? He remembered eating some great flavored sushi in Chicago. And these, it’s really good. “You’ve never tried Japanese cuisines before?” The two kids shook their heads. He watched as Jae removed the vegetables, eating them then the rice covering the sushi. That's cute. He taught the younger guy how to properly eat the meal, even Cherry who just listened to them.
After some practice and even playing with Jae and Cherry, Yuta invited Mark to come with them but he declined, only smiling at him. He brought them to the library that Jae and Chery liked, making Y/N amazed. "No wonder they liked this place." She exclaimed which made Yuta laugh, watching as the two kids started running to the designated rooms: Jae on the play area and Cherry on the mystery novels. "How did you find this place?"
"I was searching for Agatha Christie books nearby when I found this library." The girl only raised an eyebrow at him. "I don't read much but Cherry seemed interested so I wanted to read some of her works. It's amazing, Y/N."
The girl smiled. "I'm glad you're reading. You can't even make a book report when we were in elementary." Yuta looked offended but he just laughed. It was true anyway. He only picked up reading when she wrote letters for him. "So you're going to read with Cherry today?"
"Will you be alright with Jae? He's kind of hyper when playing."
"I think I can manage." She said with a smile which made him nod. "We'll see you later."
Yuta held her hand and she gave him a puzzling look. "I like these little dates." Y/N just smiled at him. A simple smile that made his heart go haywire. He was grinning when he went inside the room where Cherry is that made the younger look at him weirdly. "What are you reading?" She showed the book, Five Little Pigs. "What was the book you were reading last time?"
"The Body in the Library," Cherry said, not removing her eyes from the book. "Appa, should I tell you who the killer is?"
The guy had to chuckle while looking for the book she mentioned. "Later. Let me just read the first chapter then tell me what happened." Cherry nodded then returned to her book when Yuta sat on the bean bag next to her. This is so calming. Reading quietly after a long day of practice. Next to a bookworm who seemed so engrossed with her reading.
He liked this calmness. Wanted this calmness. Appa. Cherry calls him appa now. Who would have thought that the expressionless girl he met earlier this year is now warming up to him? Who would have thought that his youngest fanboy before would be his favorite soccer player now? Who would have thought that the girl he grew up with, who he tried to forget about, is now the girl who makes his heart race? How can he even make this calmness his?
"Cherry." He called, closing his book. "You said you'll help me with your mom right?" The younger nodded, smiling widely at him. It's weird that he's asking this thing to Cherry but this is the only thing he can think of. “What can I do to make her fall in love with me?”
The younger laughed at that. “You should know it. You’re older than me.” But Cherry knows her more. “You should bring eomma out for a date. Make her eat delicious foods, watch a movie together, then buy her flowers.” She listed and he listened attentively. “You should also take her out dancing. Eomma would really love that.”
“Your mom loves dancing?”
Cherry shrugged. “But that’s what they do in romance novels.” Yuta chuckled at that. Of course, they do that. “After that, they kiss then they go to a hotel…”
“What romance novels have you been reading, young lady?” Cherry was giggling that made Yuta smile while ruffling her hair. “Do you think I can make your mom fall for me that way?”
The younger nodded. “She already is.”
----------
“Hyung, you look weird.” Mark teased which made the older glare at him. “It’s just a date night. Haven’t you been on a date before?”
Honestly, he had never been on a date before. This will be the first. And he can’t believe that it is with her. But Mark doesn’t need to know that.
He was thankful enough that he volunteered to babysit Cherry and Jae for the night. He repeatedly took note of the things he must do, make her eat delicious foods, watch a movie together, buy her flowers, then take her out dancing. He can kiss her as Cherry suggested but the hotel would be out of the equation now. “Do I look alright?” He asked the younger guy who only laughed and said that he looked weird.
Cherry opened the door then grinned at him, “Where are the flowers?” She asked and Yuta answered that it’s in the car. “What time are you bringing eomma home, appa?” Even Mark laughed at the tone of her voice. She sounds like a mom.
“Before ten?” Yuta answered in a questioning tone that made the younger girl nod. Jae sat on his lap when he sat on their couch, asking if he could buy some chocolates for him on their way home. Yuta nodded although he’s surely sleeping when they get home. His focus was disturbed when Y/N went out of the room in skinny jeans and a pink hoodie. So pretty.
“Eomma!” Cherry shouted. “Didn’t I tell you to wear that black dress?”
Yuta chuckled at that. “It’s fine. You look great. Don’t dress up too much, I’ll get too nervous.”
“I still don’t know what you two are planning.” She stared at both Yuta and Cherry who grinned playfully. “Why do you have to drag Mark here?” She asked then bowed at the younger guy who only smiled then shook his head. “Can’t we just stay here? I’ll just cook dinner.”
Yuta started whispering in Jae’s ear that made the younger boy giggle. “Appa said you have to trust him and Cherry noona.” He chuckled then whispered something in his ear again. “Appa said you’re really pretty.” She squinted her eyes at the two boys.
"You two should go if you want to return by ten," Mark said, taking Jae from Yuta. "Don't worry about anything here."
Y/N kissed Jae's head before leaving, reminding him that he should behave and not give Mark trouble. “Y/N,” Cherry called that surprised them. “You should be Yuta’s date tonight and not Cherry and Jae’s eomma, understood?” The older girl just chuckled then kissed the top of Cherry’s head, whispering something to her that made the younger giggle.
He held a hand out for her which she took, intertwining their fingers together. “Why do I feel like Cherry and you have something planned?” He opened the door to the passenger seat for her, nodding. Well, her daughter planned this date after all. “Where are we going?" She asked when he sat on the driver's seat.
Before starting the car engine, Yuta handed her the flowers from the backseat that made her smile. He even helped her with the seatbelt that she unconsciously forgot. "To eat delicious food." He answered. "Do you have a place in mind?"
"I'm not yet hungry. Are you?" Yuta shook his head. It's still early. Maybe they can watch a movie first. But what is showing nowadays? "Yuta, can we go to a museum?" A museum? "You know when we were young, okaasan would always bring us to museums." He remembered that she liked museums so much when she was a child then his mom would always leave the two of them in front of a painting that she would stare at for hours. Yuta smiled. Maybe that was his first date without even realizing it.
The museum was quiet with few people walking to see some paintings, a silent chatter can be heard in every corner. They stopped in front of a large painting of flowers, seated on the bench in front of it. Her eyes were focused on that canvas as if painting the picture with her mind. She hasn't changed. She's still the same girl.
They walked to the further part of the art collection without even talking to each other yet he found the quietness calming. She stopped in front of a woman's painting, holding what looks like a sword. "Lucretia," she whispered. "I remembered first seeing this when I'm pregnant with Cherry." Yuta glanced at the painting. He's never a real good art critic, he doesn't even know anything about art but this looks sad.
“What is the painting about?”
Y/N smiled. “She’s a noblewoman from ancient Rome. I read that her suicide created a rebellion that changed Rome from kingdom to a republic.” He smiled, he can actually listen to her explanation all day.
“She’s killing herself here?” She nodded. That’s why it looked so melancholic. “Why would she kill herself?”
“Because she was raped.” It made him stop. “Oddly enough, the artist who made this painting is Artemisia Gentileschi and she was also raped.” He lightly glanced at her but her eyes were still focused on the oil canvas in front of them. “I thought I could be like that.” A bitter smile escaped her lips. “But whenever I hold a paintbrush, I can feel cold hands touching me.”
Fuck, Yuta thought. He doesn’t want to imagine the things that happened or he’ll see red. Imagine how hard it was for her who actually experienced everything. That monster. He only hoped that Johnny could do something to make him pay for his sins. “I felt disgusted with myself.”
He moved closer, his hand held hers. “It’s not your fault. You were a victim.” He slipped his hand off hers then held her closer by her shoulder. “I wish you could go back to painting without all these negative thoughts.” He rubbed her arm in comfort. “Whatever happens, I just want to assure you that you’re a strong woman just like…” he stopped then giggled. “That painter. What was her name again? Fettuccini?”
Y/N laughed then leaned her head on his chest. “Thank you, Yuta.”
“Anything for you, Sakura.” Y/N smiled. “Speaking of which…” Yuta let go of her, taking something from his jean pocket. “I had this for years now.” On his hand was a necklace with a winged beak-like image as a pendant. Cardcaptor Sakura’s necklace. “I was about to give this to you in Chicago when I confess.” He removed the hook of the necklace asking her to turn around to put it on her. “Now, we just wait for it to transform into your magical weapon.”
The girl giggled at that, touching the pendant. “Isn’t this the necklace I wanted back in Osaka? You said I can’t eat it.”
Yuta nodded. “You can’t. He smirked at her. “But now, you can eat my love.” She raised an eyebrow at that and he groaned. “That was so cheesy. I can’t believe I said that.” She chuckled at that, still playing with the pendant of the necklace. “This isn’t part of the plan. I should have stuck to Cherry’s date plan.”
She smiled at that. “You really do love Cherry.”
“More than anything. Jae too.”
“Yuta,” she called which made him hum. “I’ll try to paint again.” He nodded encouraging her. “When I finish my painting, can you grant me a wish?” Yuta grinned then raised an eyebrow at her. What wish?
But then, who is he to say no to her? He nodded. “Anything for you, my love.”

mila: is NOT a dress person and prefers dresses that she can go braless with and are comfortable

jimin: the first one is cute on it’s own AND with a big sweater/sweatshirt over it, and the second one make her feel like she on a european holiday

hyeyoung: “jiminnie :) she writes such beautiful poetry- i’m very thankful that she chose to share some with me!”
mila: “i don’t think i have a favorite poet, to be honest... i like kate bush, though, and i know she’s a singer, but she’s truly a poet.”
evie: “michael faudet. he wrote a series of poetry books, his first is called ‘dirty pretty things’ and it’s really 18+ but i thought it was gorgeous. i have all of his books.”
jimin: “asking me to pick a favorite poet is like asking me to pick a favorite member- can’t do it.”

Cutie Reviews: Tokyo Treat May 19
Hello, welcome to our next review :3 today we’ll be looking at the May Tokyo Treat. I’m going to point out now that i was a little disgruntled by some details in this specific box- but I will still fairly access everything as usual.
(You probably recognize the DIY item there, I won’t be reviewing it because I already have, and have gotten it numerous times since <_<)
“We’re so excited for you to try this month’s mixture of snacks. Doesn’t the crisp air and budding springtime flowers make you just want to devour some juicy fruit and enjoy their sweet flavors? You’re in luck, because this month we’ve got some yummy fruity flavors in a variety of sweet treats! We’ve also got some delicious savory snacks in store for you! Are you ready? We can’t wait for you to enjoy this months Tutti Fruity box!“
Lucky Treat
This month, the Lucky Treat is full of adorable Rilakkuma goods ranging from cuddly to practical school and kitchen items, many of which feature Rilakkuma hanging out with his friends and visiting various places.
May Prize
Meanwhile, the contest is all about Gudetama, featuring two plush for the grand prize winner, and Gudetama cookies for the runner-ups.
--------
Fanta Banana Yogurt Mix
Our first item (see pic on top) is the Banana Yogurt Fanta we were supposed to get in the previous box, but due to the “exciting release“ of the Sakura-flavored cola, it was pushed back to this box. Which isn’t bad since it still fits with the theme of this box. Made from healthy banana and nutrients, this is a carbonated drink at only 34kcal, making it a great choice for those seeking less-calorie intake.
Rating: ♥
Honestly I didn’t even want to give it that heart. I’ve said this several times but I’ll say it again if you might be new, I don’t like bananas, and I especially HATE the taste of artificial banana! I tasted no sort of creamy yogurtness or vanilla or anything else except banana. My parents loved the drink meanwhile, so I let them share it.
BUT in saying that, if you like bananas/artificial banana, you will probably really like this. Even though I disliked it, I never spit out the portion I tried and didn’t think I would throw up (like that takoyaki nightmare from a few boxes ago). So it earned 1 heart for at least not making me hate bananas even more.
Caramel Corn Puffs
I decided to start with this because I’ve had it numerous times and didn’t feel like I needed to entirely review it. The Tohato Caramel Corn is a popular brand that we’ve encountered many times, not only in the original/regular flavor, but in a variety of others.
This time we are receiving the original in “share pack“ form, each bag/10 grams being 56kcal.
These are delicious, lightly crisp caramel-flavored puffs. They are pretty sweet though so unless you have a sweet-tooth, you might find them cloying after a while. They make all sorts of unique sweet flavors, from fruity to desserts like tiramisu and ice cream. I would recommend them and they’re pretty easy to find online.
Curry-flavor Crispy Flakes & Salt and Wasabi Chips
Another item I won’t really be reviewing are these little ramen noodle crispy flakes flavored after curry. Besides snacking on them, they can also be used to top udon or other noodle dishes.
I’m not reviewing this because this is also another item I’ve had a few times- but in comparison to caramel corn, I don’t actually like this one. They have a nice crunchiness and the flavor is strong, but that was why I didn’t like them, I wasn’t into the flavor. This was another item I gave my mom.
-----
Meanwhile, we also have a bag of salt and wasabi chips by Calbee. Now, originally we were supposed to get the Pizza Mayo Mentaiko flavored chips, but due to regulations in meat substances being shipped, it had to be replaced last-second, so we either got the Wasabi chips or the lightly salted.
I was a little disappointed by the change, but at least they were giving us another Calbee brand chip to replace it. These chips (which I have no info on due to the late change not reflected in the book) have a total of 305kcal per-bag.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I usually love these chips, but this one I was a little mixed with opinions because I only like wasabi in extremely small doses sometimes. The flavor is pretty strong and bold, and they get spicy the more you eat, and if you love wasabi I’m sure you would really like these. I can’t say they’re my favorite of the brand, but the crunch is great and they still taste good. You also get a lot of foldy chips (the ones that resemble fortune cookies or wontons), which are my favorites~
Also, I discovered they go good with cream cheese :P my favorite sushi is a Philadelphia roll, which is what gave me the idea to try it.
Matcha Chocolate Corn Puffs & Strawberry Rusk
Following those are two more items I have tried before- so I won’t be reviewing them either (I’m sorry but I don’t see the point in writing the same thing, and essentially I’m still reviewing the item...). First are the Matcha Chocolate puffs by Ginbis, a brand known for their delicious star-shaped corn puffs with chocolate baked into them. This specific flavor is a limited edition, so it’s not always available. Each bag is 321kcal.
So... this is pretty much like the banana drink. I hate green tea and these have no sweetness at all. But the texture is a smooth crispiness which I do like, so I usually like this brands products. If you like green tea you’ll probably love these.
-------
Our other item is a strawberry chocolate coated rusk (rusk are baked bread pieces coated in glaze and/or sugar) from Ginza Rusk. These are sweet little biscuits embedded entirely with the strawberry flavor, and each pack is 208kcal; something I find a little unappealing about them when you compare the amount to some of the other items <3<
They’re a light crunch and taste pretty good, but I’m usually not a big fan of these rusk snacks. This one I found more tolerable then usual though; maybe they’re starting to grow on me.
Chobo Chobo Cookies & Sakura Japanese Sake KitKat.
These little baked, puffy cookies are made from a traditional recipe and are known for melting in ones mouth. Their bags feature all sorts of adorable little character variations, and each bag is 62kcal.
Rating: ♥ ♥
I don’t know what they put in these but they aren’t my most favorite thing. They remind me a lot of something I don’t like, but I haven’t had said thing in a really long time so I don’t remember what it was...
All things considered they do melt in your mouth though.
-----
Next is another unique KitKat, featuring the fresh sakura (cherries) and Japanese sake (alcohol). These are limited edition and out in time to celebrate Hanami (cherry blossom viewing). You get 12 mini-sets per usual, and each one is 63kcal.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
They have a lovely pink color (its my favorite shade in fact) and as soon as you eat them you taste the sake and a perfumey cherry- it reminds me of a fresh powdery bath product from Avon. But as strange as that is, I actually kinda like it. I’m not sure if they put alcohol in these, but I’m assuming they might soak the wafer in it or something.
New Mochitaro Puffs & Sugar Rusk Umaibo
These are our last crunchy snacks presented in this months box. First is the Mochitaro Puffs, which are small, bite-sized crispy snacks. I couldn’t find the calories on this, and these are basic salted.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
There isn’t too much flavor in these compared to the other snacks in the box, but the saltiness is noticeable, without being too intense. I kind of like how they aren’t as bold as the other snacks though, it’s a nice change of pace. They sort of remind me of the regular/plain Bugles.
------
We also have our monthly Umaibo; this time in a sweet sugary rusk flavor. It has a buttery sweetness in scent, and each stick is 43kcal. If you’re interested in trying Umaibo, they’re super-easy to find online; I’d recommend them but they can become Addictive!
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
In terms of favorites, it doesn’t make my top 3- but it would probably make my top 10. It’s really good, it reminds me of buttery pretzel sticks, I would recommend it if you want something crispy and sweet.
Strawberry Lollipop & Strawberry Mochi
I love strawberries, so I was overall happy to see a few strawberry items in this box- even if I’m not hugely into rusk. First up we have a basic strawberry lollipop with a Hello Kitty package. There are multiple packages, each with a cute little game on the back, like for example mine has a “find the matching flower“ game. Each lollipop is 22.8kcal.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Tastes like typical Japanese strawberry candy, which is a little different than American strawberry candy in most cases. It’s not a realistic flavor, but I really like it. I swear I get a little hint of watermelon or peach in it too.
------
Our next item is an actual Mochi :3 these are very rare in this box, I can’t recall if we ever had t before or not... but I do like mochi. It’s become pretty popular where I live as of late, especially ice cream ones, but I think I prefer the basic snacking ones more.
With this little pack you get two, adorable baby mochi~ I couldn’t find calories on them either. But as you can see in the pick, each one has a marshmallow-like inside with strawberry cream or jelly in the middle.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Dissecting it, you don’t get much flavor or taste but its very soft, and just a little sweet. They’re also fun to squeeze and play with, and when you eat it entirely (careful so you don’t choke though >x<) you get a bit of flavor. I can’t say I strongly taste anything but I like it.
Cherry Mochi
If you’ve read my blog before then you might recognize this, this is an alternate Mochi treat and we have had these before- these ones are cherry flavored, and last time they were soda. These are by the brand Kyoshin. I couldn’t find calories.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Besides the cute and unique packaging, these also taste good. They’re very different from the other mochi, in that they’re little chewy candies. They taste like normal cherry-flavored candy.
♥ Cutie Ranking ♥
Content - 5 out of 5. Everything held up and it was all plenty tasty, with the exception of a few items I didn’t really like, but I know catered to those of you who do like the taste would love the items. Nothing tasted stale or old.
Quality - 2 out of 5. I was severely disappointed, not in the quality of the items but the box itself for being extremely repetitive; half of the box had repetitive items, the theme was very repetitive, and the DIY kit was disgracefully repetitive...
Theme - 3 out of 5. A good portion of the box was fairly fruity in going with the theme, and I believe if you’re going to do a theme you should stick with it, and I noticed that the Classic edition of the box caters more towards the theme than the Premium, but this time I thought it was decent. However, as I said above it was pretty repetitive, so I can’t say I enjoyed the theme.
Total Rank: 5 out of 10. Not counting my preference in flavors, I feel like the items were great. Nothing was stale for having sat around a few months (which is a problem sometimes), no quality problems in terms of item damage or issues, but the fruity theme didn’t appeal to me at all because I feel like the box only half-tried in following it, and there was a lot of repetition. I even wanted to justify the DIY but you honestly can’t at this point. I think this is the 3rd time I’ve gotten it recently, and several kits have fruity tastes or themes, there was no excuse for them to give this same DIY kit to us this soon. They quit with the health snacks and everything else that made this box unique and fun, I don’t understand why obtaining equally priced DIY is suddenly so hard.
♥ Cutie’s Scale of Yummy ♥
I’m not doing it this time, I’m kind of in a bad mood now that I wrote that <3< sorry.

Momma made it all better - Pack mom
The day just couldn’t get any worse for Liam. It was only second period and he wanted to crawl into a hole wishing the day could be over as quickly and painlessly as possible. It was Tuesday, the day he’d been dreading all weekend because it was test day and even though he had studied really hard, he had only managed to scrape a C- which put a downer on his mood for the rest of the day. Usually he looked forward to lunch because he got to see everyone but today there were only a few of them scattered around the table since the others left to do important research. Including the one person Liam was scanning the table for. He was hoping Scott would be at the table and pick up the negative vibes hoping he could get it off his chest but he didn’t so he just bottled up his feelings and got on with his day praying it would end soon. Lacrosse practice didn’t get any better. Liam was usually one of the best players on the team but today he couldn’t make a single shot which resulted in coach benching him and then telling him to run laps. He’d had enough and just wanted the day to be over so he could go home.
Liam felt like 3pm would never come. His walk home was quiet and she slowly trudge into the Hale loft where he now stayed with Derek and his mate, the pack mom but most importantly she was the mom Liam had always wanted. He threw his bag on the floor and slumping down on the sofa relieved he was finally at home. “Hi honey, I didn’t hear you come in. How was your day?”, I asked him walking into the kitchen with the empty basket that I had just finished putting clothes away. He shrugged and shrunk down in his seat. I placed the basket in the kitchen and walked in to the living room and sat next to him on the couch. Just looking at him, I could tell something was wrong. “Do you want to talk about it, baby?” I asked him wrapping my arms around him. He brought his knees up and hid his face in his arms. I scooped him up and set him on my lap holding him close and gently running my fingers through his hair. “Hey, it’s ok. I’m right here. You can talk to me, baby”, I reassured him before pressing a kiss to his head. “Tell momma what’s wrong?”, I encouraged him. He sighed and lifted his head up. I brushed his hair away from his face so I could look into his baby blue eyes that were now tear glazed and had lost some of their shine because of the sadness he was feeling. “It’s just been a horrible day, nothing has gone right all day for me”, he finally told me. “What happened today, honey?”, I asked. “I studied really hard for the test in biology and all I got was a stupid C-, half the pack including Scott were all missing doing research at lunch so I had no one to vent to and and…lacrosse practice sucked too because I didn’t make a single shot so coached benched me”, He rambled finally getting everything off his chest. He buried his face into my shoulder and let out a sigh. “I just want to stay here”, he mumbled against me. I couldn’t help but smile and press another kiss to his crown. “I’m always here for you, baby. You know that”, I told him rocking him in my arms and gently running my fingers through his hair, a familiar gesture that would calm him down.
After a few minutes of him sitting on my lap, I came up with an idea that I knew would cheer him up. I picked him up and set him on the couch before pressing a kiss to his forehead and telling him I’d be right back causing him to look at me slightly confused. I went into the kitchen and set out ingredients to make waffles because I knew they were Liam’s favourite and usually a treat made by Derek on the weekend either as breakfast first thing or a dessert loaded with ice cream for after dinner. Today, it was definitely an after dinner kind of treat. Derek had been out running errands in the afternoon so I had texted him to pick up Liam’s favourite pizza on the way home but in the mean time, I was determined to put a smile on my baby’s face.
“Liam, baby. Could you come in here for a minute?”, I called out to him grabbing some aprons from the draw. “What is i…”, he didn’t get to finish his sentence because he looked over at the counter and saw that the waffle machine was set up. “What’re you doing, mom?”, he asked confused. “We’re going to make waffles for dessert”, I smiled at him grabbing one of the aprons and putting it on him. “How come? It’s only Tuesday”, He continued to question. “It’s my attempt of making you feel better after a crappy day of school, so what do you think? Do you wanna help momma make waffles?”, I replied and it took him less than 10 seconds to answer as he nodded at me a smile appearing on his face.
We spent over an hour making waffles. I had Liam mix up the ingredients into a velvety smooth batter as I snapped a few pictures of him covered in flour. “Does this look good?”, asked Liam still whisking the batter. I stood behind him and held onto the whisk with my hand lightly over his as I peered over his shoulder to check. “Yeah it’s looking great. Good job, baby”, I praised him and pressed a kiss to his head. I swiped some of the batter from the side of the bowl and put a small spot of it on Liam’s nose giggling looking at the seriousness of his face. “It looks good, especially on you”, I couldn’t help but giggle at how he scrunched up his nose adorably. “Moooooom!”, Liam laughed and wiped his nose on his sleeve and laughed. In return, he did the same and couldn’t stop laughing at silly I looked. “Ok ok, let’s actually make some waffles”, I laughed and took the bowl from him pouring the batter into the waffle machine and leaving it to cook.
Derek had walked into the chaos that erupted from the kitchen to see his mate and his pup covered in flour and batter and couldn’t help but smile at the silly scene. “What the hell happened in here?” Asked Derek looking at the counter almost covered in batter and flour before deciding to place the pizza on the coffee table in the living room. “We’re making waffles”, Liam told smiling at him like an excited toddler. “I can see that”, he replied and chuckled shaking his head.
Derek took plates and glasses into the living room so he could start dishing up dinner and I had Liam go clean himself up so I could finish up the rest of the waffles and clean the kitchen before joining them for dinner. “So how was school, pup?”, asked Derek digging into his slice of pizza. “It wasn’t great but mom made it better”, he replied smiling at me with pizza sauce around his mouth. “You know, pizza sauce is also a good look for you”, I smiled at him grabbing a napkin and wiping his mouth. He blushed at the gesture causing Derek and I to laugh.
Liam practically wolfed down his pizza and couldn’t wait for dessert. I plated up a waffle for each of us and had him put on whatever delicious sweet treats he wanted ranging from a variety of yummy ice creams flavours, several thick oozing sauces from caramel to raspberry sauce and left it to his imagination how he’d want to decorate it usually ending with whipped cream, colourful sprinkles and a glacé cherry on top. Whereas I would go for chocolate everything but Derek usually resulted in the slightly healthier option of throwing on some fresh berries, a chopped banana and maybe a little vanilla ice cream. Derek looked at our plates wide eyes at the horror of so much sugar. “You’re both asking to get diabetes, jeez”, he stated horrified. “Wow and you’re boring”, I replied bluntly which made Liam giggle and Derek to open his mouth to argue but didn’t get a chance to even though funnily enough, he’d swipe a forkful of the sugary goodness both of our plates. By the end of the night, Liam had a smile (and chocolate) on his face.

NYC? NYFEEDME...
Because if there’s one thing NYC is good at, it’s making sure my bottomless pit of a stomach is consistently full of something tastyyy. As well as beautiful. They are the epitome of making food into an art and waste no time or money with creative executions of something as simple as “cookie dough” (more on that later). A couple weeks ago I went to NYC as a part of a) finding a smart-kid college for my smart-kid sister and b) due to a standing family vacation reservation that fit in nicely to part “a” so after my donut-filled Syracuse excursion we bopped on down to Midtown! There was the glitz n’ fake glamour of NYC just blocks away in Times Square, but we tucked away in the 1 Hotel on 6th which has become a second home of sorts. While it’s strangely organic and it all smells like wood and hemp, it’s a literal oasis from the trashbag-lined streets and taxis honking and honking (and honking). Do NOT get me wrong, I ADORE New York. I live for the salty street pretzels and the iced coffee at every deli and the need to just live it up there constantly. But I’m a Chicago girl, midwestern to the bone and Jesus I thought I might have a better fate in store but it appears I’m baseball and cheese fries until I die.
Give me ten days in that wild city though and I will make them my bitch! Since I’d only ever spent 48 hours at a time in NYC many times a year in the past few years, and still managed to consume most of the island I was concerned as to how I would fare. I’d say thankfully we as a family eat pretty healthy and my one friend I stayed with is a ~vegan~ and the other one is a marathon runner with a taste for really really good carbs, so damage was light. I’ve rounded up my tippity-top spots for grub worth taking one to one million photos of and I hope you get to go try them all, because I’m a creature of habit and rarely wine n dine somewhere once so I’ll see you around!
1. BLUESTONE LANE!
This cafe was one of my sister’s finds, and still one of my favorites to look back on! Elise isn’t usually one to choose where we dine, but we all needed coffee and a breakfast that wasn’t bagels on bagels (which would be my choice if it was my turn to choose breakfast) and she pointed us to a little funky-chic cafe called Bluestone Lane, an Australian chain dotted across NYC. The location we went to was on 5th Ave (2 E 90th ST for the exact address) and was attached to a gorgeous old church, the seating within some of the re-done structure with tables spilling out onto the scenic sidewalk. Bluestone offers a “reasonably” priced, health-oriented menu that’s somewhat Cali and somewhat NYC-foodie-on-a-mission-for-THE-PIC. I was beyond thrilled to get to shoot this food- we ate at a table right inside the doors between the beautiful stone walls which meant natural, warm light and perfect people watching.
What we ate: the BIRCHER MUESLI STOLE THE SHOW. With creamy oats, crisp apples, quinoa for texture and health benefits, and seasonal berries + fruits it was a killer combo of filling and still light in the stomach. The homemade banana bread (gluten free!) with ricotta and fruit is a great sharing plate which is exactly what we did, and added something sweet and heavier to everyone’s meals. The avocado smash was beautifully composed “On Balthazar toast with tahini, heirloom cherry tomatoes, feta, sunflower sprouts & e.v.o.o” (from website) and could have been the full meal if we came an hour later. For a breakfast/brunch/lunch date, this is the place. You want to sip their scrumptious espresso and fragrant, rich chai over the colorful food and chat forever in these walls. And guess what? The Guggenheim Museum is right next door, which is exactly where we went after this meal. How perfect is that?
2. DOUGH!
So my mom loves donuts. As in donuts are worth twenty minutes to find parking for, legit anger if they are sold out, real old school donut appreciation level of love. This is something I love deeply about her and why I can always count on a “yes” upon a donut excursion request, and while in NYC it’s a m u s t to go to Dough. These big ole fluffy fuckers are too good to skip, and given there’s plenty of flashy, over-the-top donuts to be found on Instagram I can’t praise Dough enough. These are bigger than your hand but weigh less than a baby bunny, and the flavors do nothing but enhance the sweet, airy dough you can watch being hand-fried in the back baking room through a glass wall. My favorite one to date is the Blood Orange donut coated in the prettiest pink glaze and donning a dried orange slice, and it’s tangy and flavorful and citrusy without being sickeningly sweet.
The other front runners are the chocolate-hazelnut and the lemon poppyseed which tastes like a much less buttery version of lemon poppyseed pound cake and instead would make a lovely breakfast pastry. While Dough is small and there isn’t much open seating since it’s ~always~ full of people eating a donut with fork and knife, my family grouped up by the window and shared donuts with chocolaty fingers and smiles galore. Can’t frown when you’re eating a donut unless you’re a miserable person!
There she is, the Blood Orange baddie calling my name. I’ll be back, my sweet.
3. TOBY’S ESTATE COFFEE
What’s a family vacation in my family without copious coffee??? Seeing as donuts and 3 p.m. always call for caffeine, we wandered around the Flatiron District where Dough is located and found this little coffee shop that’s Brooklyn originated and very very cute. They take coffee seriously so don’t expect grande sizes, but do expect major taste. Bonus? It’s attached to a boutique bookstore so you can sip and shop (but do NOT SPILL). I got a mocha and it was rich, delicious, and also very expensive. That’s what good espresso (cough cough not Starbucks) will cost you.
4. DŌ, Cookie Dough Confections
That’s right, another “dough”! There’s a theme here of trendy sweet treats and this one certainly takes the... dough. Made famous through social media and the 2017 “need” for colorful and unique foodie experiences, DŌ offers a variety of cookie dough flavors all entirely safe to eat either in a cup or a cone quite like an ice cream store! I turned 22 during our trip and this was my pick for birthday breakfast because what adult doesn’t want to turn 22 while eating a scoop of oatmeal and M&M cookie dough that comes in a PINK CONE?!?!? I may be getting old and gross, but my stomach is still a dessert-driven child. I literally only eat my vegetables so we can get to the real stuff.
We came at a great time- given the fact it’s such a destination spot there can be up to a 2+ hour wait (!!!) so we got there bright n’ early at 10 a.m. and there were enough people to feel cool but not too many people that I was like weneedtoleaverightnowfuckthedough. Mom got the chocolate chip dough on a chocolate chip cone, Elise got the plain ole sugar cookie, and my dad nibbled on a little of it all which was impressive since his sweet tooth is nonexistent. I guess when you don’t have a birthday cake there are no candles, right? NAH. THIS PLACE HAS IT ALL. We got some candles and stuck em right in there.
And the fact we had leftovers to eat during intermission at “Kinky Boots” on Broadway that night when we were taking a break from salivating over Brendan Urie? PERFECTO. Brendan and DŌ. A winning combo and making me feel real good about 22 so far.
5. SANCTUARY T!
HA as if the birthday eating ended there. I planned weeks and weeks ahead to have dinner at Sanctuary T on my birthday, as it’s one of my absolute favorite restaurants in the world, and my mom dragged her heels for a while asking if I was “entirely sure I did not want to try somewhere NEW and FRESH” and I stayed strong because Sanc T is my bliss. She regretted that resistance when we sat down in the fucking cute Free People photoshoot setting of this place and got a rose on happy hour, and when the food was brought to the table I pondered how is this place not on every foodie list because it’s all just so GOOD. The truffle-Caesar kale salad is incredible, as the kale is crunchy and earthy which plays off the strong smooth linger of the truffle dressing, and the fish tacos are fried to perfection and topped with pickled root veggies. The fries (also on happy hour!) come with -surprise- truffle aioli, and they are the best fries in NYC. I’m just going to go ahead and make that claim. The burrata was thick but silky and on homemade bread with some olive oil it was straight s-e-x. Slippery and salty and best with an alcoholic drink in arm’s reach.
There’s nothing bad on this menu. Nothing. So go H A M and eat it allllllll up. It’s in SoHo so it’s a great area to walk around before or after dinner, with amazing classic New York architecture and picturesque streets. Make sure to hit up the Brandy Melville nearby and scoot over to MarieBelle for after-dinner hot chocolate and sweets.
That will do it for part one of “Natalie Eats NYC”, part two will be up in a couple days!!! While I can write forever, I don’t think y’all want to read forever. So I’ve chunked it up.
Until next time, Happy Eating!
-Natalie

Alexia’s Birthday (& Daniel’s too)
An infuriating song broke my peaceful slumber. Groaning, I shot my hand towards my phone to shut off the alarm. God, I’m so tired! Sleeping late last night seemed like a good idea at that time. The effects of it is hitting at me at full force right now. I can barely open my eyes. The doors to my room opening has just threw my thoughts of getting further sleep out of the window. I don’t even need to open my eyes to know that my mom is now marching up to my bed after switching on the lights and turning off my source of comfort. She soon left with a simple ‘Wake up’. Bless her soul letting me wake up at my pace rather than forcing me up at that moment. A nagging feeling bugged my brain, today is important, wasn’t it? There’s something that makes it different than my usual day of school. Then it hit me, quite literally honestly, the present I spent yesterday night preparing fell on my face. It was my friend, Alexia’s, birthday. I was up in that second, me and our friends has planned to go to school early to prepare her surprise at recess. With speed I never knew I possessed, I quickly went through my morning routine and left for school.
Stairs are evil, period. Why did the school have to put my class on the highest floor? Not to mention making us chug back-breaking books and bags. I gracelessly make my way up the stairs, collapsing with a hefty huff at my seat. I sat there catching my breath for a moment before getting up and going to Telie’s class, who thankfully is right next to mine. God help me if I have to climb up and down the stairs again. My earlier bad mood vanished the moment I stepped into the class and laid eyes on the familiar faces of her classmates. I never know what to expect in that classroom, just when you think you have them figured out they just do the most outrages things, I have long given up on finding what was wrong with them. Today they were all cheering while a few guys were taping up a very unamused-looking boy. My eyes then caught the familiar shade of brown shaggy short hair and I immediately approach her. Telie turned the moment I went to her, letting out a cheerful ‘Hey!’, followed by a chorus of greetings from her classmates. I nodded back in response and then asked her about the surprise we’ll be having later. Knowing her I wouldn’t be surprise if she forgot. However, it looks like she did, I would admit that I was a little shocked. Mere moments later our other friend comes bursting through the door, their black hair bouncing as they rushed to us.
“Hey! Are you guys-” momentarily cutting themselves off to spare a glance at the poor boy that was now hobbling around asking for scissors and opening their mouths again to question before stopping once again and shaking their head. “Nevermind, I don’t want to know. Anyways as I was saying, are you guys ready for the birthday surprise? I got the cakes which you guys didn’t help with.” Ah, there’s the sassy, sarcastic psycho we know and love, August.
“Sorry I forgot,” Telie said. August let out a loud sigh.
“I knew it! But that doesn’t explain you!” they exclaimed as they pointed a finger at me.
“You’re early. Didn’t you said to come down at 7:15am? It’s 7:05am last I checked,” I reasoned, smirking while I raised my watch, pointing at the digits displaying there.
“Argh fine! But anyways here, each of you guys take one, I can’t let Daniel see them,” August then brought out the two cakes me and them had choose the day before yesterday and handing it to us. I took Alexia’s while Telie took Daniel’s. I smirked as we got into our usual routine of chatting, the previous malice from August completely gone, and of making fun of each other.
“Oh yeah! I brought some snacks as well,” Telie announced, seeming to just remember it. She went to her bag and brought out a variety of snacks, chocolate bars, candy bars and some chips. I raised an eyebrow, “Wouldn’t the cakes be enough? We don’t have much friends you know.”
“It’s fine,” came her nonchalant reply. Sighing, I picked up a chocolate bar to examine, it’s not the cheap ones you can find in a grocery store, this one was rather high class, I glanced at Telie, silently questioning her. Catching on, she just said she got some left from her trip during the holidays.
An unexpected visitor decided to appear. “Hey guys!” Alexia exclaimed from her position at the open classroom door. All of us shot up, frantically tying hide the poster and cakes from her view. “Alexia! What are you doing here?” August questioned, their voice quivering from nervousness. I faced palmed, they aren’t very good at lying. Though they said what was on everyone’s mind, why was Alexia here? Her classrooms are at the bottom floor and it was clear on how much of a pain she finds the stairs to our classrooms, choosing to not come up before classes at all and only meeting us at recess with the rest of our friend group. Her sudden change in routine caught us off guard, especially when we were planning her surprised birthday party later.
“Oh, I rarely come up after all and decided to see it today. I asked Kuro to join but she didn’t want to. She did seem oddly against me coming up here but didn’t really stop me……” She explained, before turning her attention towards the boy struggling to cut off his restrains with a pair of safety scissors. “How are you guys ignoring this?”
“This is everyday stuff, honestly.” I answered. His hands are starting to turn purple now, with the tape cutting off his circulation. Finally, one of Telie’s friend had enough and moved to help him, finally freeing him from his sticky bind. Alexia, not used to the shenanigans of this class, looked at us incredulously, “I’m missing out on a lot.” We all agreed.
“Oh! Are these chocolates?” She said, picking one up in the process, moving it around to examine it. “Can I have some?”
Telie snatched it from her hand and started peeling the wrappings, “Now is not the time for chocolate,” she says as she scarfs down the chocolate bar in her hand. Rolling my eyes at her usual antics, I picked one up. “You’re insufferable Telie. You can have them at recess later, you are technically breaking the rules, not to mention classes are about to start soon. Better head back down.”
Alexia crossed her arms and left with a pout. Me and August following her out of the door, each heading back to our classes. We exchanged farewells and went back to class. Classes seems to last forever, it was just 3 periods before our recess but I just couldn’t wait. A few of my own classmates gave curious glances at the cake on my table, it is rather attention gaining, but that was all they did. The recess bell finally rung and I took the cake, along with the present I made, with me and went to meet up with Telie. We may our way down and she parted ways with her boyfriend. Holding onto the cake and her plastic bag of snacks, she made her way to our usual table. Kuro and Zoey were already seated there, not going off to buy lunch like how they usually do. Seems the birthday kids aren’t here yet so me and Kuro hid the cakes at our laps. Two of our friends came and greeted us, carrying their plates of food before setting them down and sat down. Our conversation was interrupted with a loud scream of protest, followed by more screams and a softer confused voice.
“NOOOOOOOO,” Alexia screamed
“GET BACK HERE! IT’S OK, TRUST US!” came August’s yell.
“I DON’T!”
“I have no idea what is going on,” Daniel said, walking up to us after the duo ran off from the cantin.
“Alexia! Just put on the blindfold,” Kuro urged, despite her sounding slightly annoyed, her bright grin betrayed it.
“Ugh, Fine!” Alexia exclaimed, defeated. August seemed satisfied and quickly rapped the blindfold on her, and then on Daniel, who only questioned but didn’t seem to mind that much. We set off on action, briskly taking out the cakes and arranging them while our two friends which we forgot to inform, watched us with mild confusion and curiosity, their food lay forgotten on the side. Daniel’s cake looked exactly like its name, Chocolate Forrest. A shiny chocolate glace with cherries and chocolate art on top, swirling like branches. Alexia’s looked like a unicorn threw up over it. Okay, the way I described it didn’t make it sound that appetizing but it was delicious nonetheless. I may or may not have done a taste test on it.
“Okay, you guys can look now,” Telie exclaimed, smile brightening when she saw the look of surprise on their faces. Alexia’s hand already reaching for the ruby macaron on her cake.
“Happy Birthday!” We chorused.
We all had fun during the short recess, some coming back with icing on their hands and faces, laughing along. After our clean up and gifts, we shared farewells as we went back to our classes.

Ideas to start garden in your home
Gardening is hardly a straightforward practice — goodness knows it takes skills, dedication, and more than a little luck to grow flowers and veggies. But while certain facts about gardens are perplexing (like the delicate nature of herb garden growing), some are just plain fun, silly, or even mind-boggling. And because we love all things gardening, we couldn't help but share this random assortment:
1. A sunflower is not just one flower.
Both the fuzzy brown center and the classic yellow petals are actually 1,000 – 2,000 individual flowers, held together on a single stalk.
2. There are more microorganisms in one teaspoon of soil than there are people on earth.
It's aliiiiive! OK, in all seriousness, that fact might make you itchy, but microbes are important for keeping your soil full of nutrients.
3. Plants really do respond to sound.
Talking to plants to help them grow is a well-known old wives' tale, but studies have shown vibration (like music, or perhaps even the sweet sound of your voice) can affect plant growth. Plus, the Myth Busters (in an admittedly not-so-scientific study), compared a silent greenhouse to one where they piped in a voice soundtrack, and found that plants in the latter grew more.
4. Butterflies might be more attracted to your weeds than your flowers. Colorful blooms aren't the chief reason these insects love your garden – it's more about the fragrance and nectar. According to the Smithsonian Institute, new cultivars of popular flowers have been bred for enhanced color and size, but have often lost their fragrance in the process. So everyday weeds, like dandelions and clovers, might actually be the most appealing things in your yard to butterflies (they hate pesticides, too). Taking care to choose heirloom flower seeds can get them to also fly your way. 5. A little baking soda can help you grow sweeter tomatoes. A regular sprinkling of this kitchen staple into your plant's soil can help reduce acidity, which sweetens up your crop. 6. Some of your favorite fruits are actually in the rose family. Apples, pears, peaches, cherries, raspberries, strawberries, and more are rosaceae, making them cousins to the long-stemmed Valentine's Day variety.
7. The right orchid combination can smell like your favorite dessert. Did you know that the vanilla bean comes from a orchid varietal? And it's not the only sweet-smelling kind: "An oncidum hyrbrid called Sharry Baby smells like chocolate," says George Hatfield, president of the Santa Barbara Orchid Show. "It's 'baking cookie' aroma has made it a winner." And that's not all: The cymbidium Golden Elf smells lemony, and the phalaenopsis violacea has a cinnamon scent. "Just like you'd combine Jelly Belly beans to create new flavors, you can combine orchids to create a garden that smells like a dessert buffet," says Hatfield.
8. You can change a hydrangea's color by altering the pH level of the soil.
A more alkaline soil will result in pinker blooms, while more acidity will produce blue blooms. To coax your plant to the blue side, add more organic matter to your soil, like egg shells and coffee grounds (though the acidity in used coffee grounds can vary greatly, so you might try a high-acid fertilizer, too). The change won't happen overnight, but eventually you should succeed in manipulating your soil's pH level. 9. Deer can jump eight feet high.
They might require a running start to reach such heights, but a tiny fence often isn't enough to keep these garden nibblers away. Try a taller one, plant thorny or pungent plants as a natural barrier, or scare them off with lights or wind chimes.
10. You don't need to be a dedicated composter to reap similar benefits. Call it cheating, but applying used coffee grounds, eggshells, chopped-up banana peels, and other organic matter directly to your soil (no composting required) can offer plants nutrients as they decompose. For already-growing beds, scatter and bury the items within the first few inches of soil. How to Revive An Air Plant https://www.justhomegardening.com/how-to-revive-an-air-plant
House Gardenіng Tіps
Belоw is sоme house gardening tips that I feel are wоrth mentіоnіng, and mіght get yоu оn yоur way tо earnіng yоur green thumb. There is never a lоt оf gardenіng hіnts, and I can brush up оn a few tо get yоu started. I am sure іf yоu dо a search іn Gооgle fоr “gardenіng hіnts,” yоu wіll have mоre at yоur dіspоsal than yоu can ever ask fоr. All gardens are maintained on some level, especially if you’re growing crops and flowers. You need the right companion plants, various soil amendments, and regular maintenance to deal with pests and weeds. I spend an hour every day and more on the weekends in the gardens, tending the plants, dealing with weeds, managing pests, and mostly enjoy it all (it’s not fun in a heatwave let’s be real here). Your first few years will be a lot of learning. Each plant requires its own maintenance, so prepare to become an expert on everything you grow! I say this half-heartedly, I’m awful at caring for flowers unless they’re edible. I can’t grow ornamental things for shit, my flowers come in every spring and summer and then die dramatically because I prioritize the vegetables! find your strengths and play to them hah Yоu cоuld alsо try gardenіng magazіnes and bооks and even gardenіng clubs. There’s plenty оf knоwledge tо gо arоund. The lіst belоw wіll sum up hіnts оn preparіng yоur plоt, sоіl preparatіоn, mulch, cоmpоst and the waterіng оf the plоt.
Garden Tіp 1
Always plan yоur garden оut befоre yоu begіn dіggіng away at the yоur lawn. A fantastіc way tо begіn іs tо take an lоng lооk in your garden a try tо envіsіоn yоur fіnіshed prоduct. Take іntо accоunt the hіght that the plants can grоw tо, the sоlar spectrum, and the prоxіmіty tо a water sоurce. As sооn as yоu see a place yоu lіke take a chaіr and begіn yоur gardenіng plоt plan оn paper. Thіs way yоu can get mоre detaіled and іnclude thіngs that yоu mіght fоrget оtherwіse. Be sure tо іnclude іn yоur plans the prоxіmіty оf yоur garden hоse оr garden hоse reel and fіxture.
Garden Tіp 2
Pоssіbly the mоst іmpоrtant tіp оf all іs cоrrect sоіl preparatіоn and mіxture. It іs extremely іmpоrtant tо utіlіze the nоn tоxіc sоіl nutrіents when yоu are grоwіng anythіng that yоu plan оn eventually cоnsumіng. If yоu are grоwіng vegetables іn yоur garden, then a hоmemade cоmpоst іs by far the best fertіlіzer fоr yоur garden. The results wіll speak fоr themselves. It іs nоt as dіffіcult as yоu mіght thіnk. Dо sоme research, and yоu wоuld be surprіsed. If cоmpоst isn’t avaіlable the next sоlutіоn іs mulch.
If yоu are gоіng tо gо thіs rоute, іt’s іdeal tо lооk fоr sоftwооds lіke redwооd оr spruce. Sоfter wооds have an easіer tіme breakіng dоwn and spreadіng the nutrіents tо the sоіl іn the bed. If yоu are nоt grоwіng vegetables, there are plenty of оf fertіlіzers that can fіt yоur prоject. Just gо tо yоur lоcal nursery and they wіll lead yоu іn the rіght dіrectіоn. When yоu decіde оn yоur fertіlіzer, make sure everythіng іs mіxed well and aerated prоperly. A garden tіller can make thіs part оf the task a whоle lоt easіer but іs nоt needed.
Garden Tіp 3
Once yоur plant area іs pіcked оut and the dіrt іncоrrectly spread іn yоur garden, yоu can then begіn placіng yоur plants іn the rоutіne yоu thоught up іn yоur plans. Layіng оut the plants can prоvіde yоu wіth a better іmage оf yоur results. Addіtіоnally, іt іs best tо arrange the plants frоm the largest grоwіng іn the back and dіmіnіshіng tоward the frоnt оf the garden. Yоu can grоup the plants accоrdіng tо attrіbutes. Thіs way yоu can get the mоst оut оf yоur area wіth all the plants gettіng the full benefіt оf the suns rays. Thіs alоne can make a massіve dіfference.
Garden Tіp 4
It іs always best tо use gardenіng sprіnklers, but thіs isn’t always the pоssіble fоr yоur fіrst garden. If yоu cannоt affоrd garden sprіnkler, yоu can stіll autоmate the garden wіth a hоse attachment sprіnkler. Yоu can use tіmers that attach tо the hоse fіxture and set the sprіnkler wherever needed and thіs can make the waterіng autоmated alsо. Yоu mіght stіll have tо use the garden hоse here and there. If yоu dоn’t mіnd-bоgglіng than a garden hоse and garden hоse reel setup can wоrk nіce and fulfіll all the essentіal waterіng yоu need. Anоther alternatіve іs the drіp іrrіgatіоn systems althоugh thіs wіll alsо cоst yоu a bіt mоre. Thоugh the abоve tіps are extremely іmpоrtant fоr the fundamentals оf yоur garden yоu can get a gооd deal mоre frоm dоіng yоur research оn the іnternet search engіne, оrderіng a publіcatіоn, оr jоіnіng a garden club. Purchasіng a magazіne оr jоіnіng a club can help an lоt as yоu get new іnfоrmatіve tіps every mоnth. I hоpe that the tіps are helpful and wіsh yоu gооd luck оn yоur green thumb pursuіt. Yоu’ll be there befоre yоu knоw іt. edible mushroom growing kit https://www.justhomegardening.com/8-best-edible-mushroom-growing-kit-plus-growth-tips-for-beginners

When you live in suburbia, surrounded by big-box chain eateries, you get rather excited when a quality, independent restaurant opens up. And you do all you can to support them, hoping to ensure their success and longevity. So it was a couple of weeks ago, when bored with all the same old, same old places for a Friday evening happy hour, that I checked Yelp (love it or hate it, it still serves a purpose) and spotted a “Hot and New” listing for RANGE Kitchen & Tap.
We headed there directly, excited about the prospect of a new place that might suit our needs. We were not disappointed. Our first time in, we really only wanted a glass of wine and some small plates. When we scanned the menu, and saw the plethora of delicious-sounding salads and entrees, we decided to go all in. We were sitting at the bar, which overlooks the prep-kitchen, so we could see everything coming out of the back, and we were amazed at what we saw. We also got to talk with the prep cooks, and Chef Kevin for a few minutes when he emerged from the main kitchen. We learned that RANGE Kitchen & Tap specializes in farm fresh, local ingredients, prepared on site, to create comfort food with a twist. Everything is made there, from fresh ground beef all the way down to the homemade salad dressings and even mayonnaise. That night we split a Ceasar salad (homemade dressing, yum!) and Mom’s Meatloaf. Sliced, then seared on the flat-top for a crispy crust, it was amazing!
Determined to share the wealth, we invited friends Jason and Heather Thomson, to join us for the full meal deal. And although RANGE Kitchen & Tap has put together a very impressive wine list, we decided to bring our own, and open a bottle we’ve been holding onto for a while: Dracaena Wines Cabernet Franc 2015, made by friends and fellow wine bloggers, Mike and Lori Budd.
If you haven’t tried bringing your own wine to a restaurant, give it a go. Just make sure it’s not something that’s already on their wine list. Most places charge a nominal corkage fee (the charge for the server/somm/owner to pull the cork) although some restaurants don’t charge for corkage at all. I’ve often wondered, and have yet to get a straight answer, but with the increasing popularity of screwcap wines, when you bring your own wine closed by screwcap, do they charge you a “screwage fee”? Anyway, not only does BYOW save money, but it’s a great way to share a special bottle with friends.
But I digress…we met Jason and Heather and set about perusing the menu. We decided to start with the Charcuterie Board. The meat selection changes frequently, and each day the offerings are listed on a chalkboard near the kitchen. Tonight’s board was delicious, though I can’t remember all of the meats that our server described.
Onto the mains, where were delighted with the selections. The catch of the day, which Robyn ordered, was fresh halibut over asparagus and peas. Heather got the fried chicken over garlic mashed potatoes, Jason The Range pizza, featuring daily market fresh ingredients, and I ordered The Shorty flatbread, made with short rib meat that had been cooked sous vide for 36 hours. As you can see, the food looked amazing, and I can assure you it tasted even better! But how would this wide variety of foods stand up to our big, bold red wine?
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
The Dracaena Wines Cabernet Franc 2015 paired magnificently with each and every dish. A well-crafted and food friendly wine, Dracaena is definitely a crowd pleaser. Bold enough to stand up to short ribs or steak, yet restrained and elegant so it complements lighter dishes like grilled halibut just as well.
Mike and Lori Budd have a passion for Cabernet Franc. So much so, that they were the driving force behind the annual Cabernet Franc Day, celebrated on December 4th each year. As one would expect, when someone has a passion, their product is going to be sensational. Dracaena Wines Cabernet Franc 2015 definitely is that. Here’s my review:
A truly spectacular gem! Deep, inky purple color. Aromas of ripe blackberry, black cherry, and vanilla. On the palate, there are big, both flavors of blackberry pie, black currant, and chocolate covered cherries, mingled with soft oak and vanilla notes. With a rich, full mouthfeel, velvety smooth tannins, balanced acidity, and a long, juicy finish of black fruit and spice, this is an exquisite wine that pairs well with a wide range of foods, from grilled halibut to a thick steak.
You really should give Dracaena Wines Cabernet Franc 2015 a try. It’s available direct from the winery on their website. You won’t be disappointed.
Oh, I almost left out dessert. Silly me. We love crème brûlée. Do you know what’s better than crème brûlée? Espresso crème brûlée! Oh, yes! This stuff is rich, decadent, and delicious. We’d come back in just for dessert!
If you happen to be in the Sacramento area, I encourage you to make the trek out to the ‘burbs of Roseville and check out RANGE Kitchen & Tap. But before you do, make sure you order a bottle or three of Dracaena Wines Cabernet Franc, and bring it with you.
Cheers!

Cutie Reviews: Tokyo Treat Dec 18
Ironically, I just filled out a survey the other day about this box. Changes will probably be coming to it, but not for a handful of boxes yet considering how far behind I am. If the box does change, I just help I like it~
Meanwhile I still haven’t gotten my delivery. As of tomorrow it’ll have been two weeks since it sent.
“Everyone’s favorite time of year is finally here! The holidays have begun and cheer is flowing throughout the air. It is time to be generous to those around you, give and receive gifts, and to enjoy a good time with those dear to you. With that in mind, we curated a fun holiday Santa’s Snacks box so that you can share a relaxing time snacking on fun holiday themed Japanese snacks with friends and family. We hope you enjoy all the many snacks inspired by Japanese holiday culture and that this month’s snack box warms your heart during this holiday season. Who will you be sharing your snacks this month with? Whomever it is, we hope you have a great holiday!“
So because of pictures, I didn’t include the Lucky Treat or prize pics. The Lucky Treat is entirely Crayon Shin-chan dedicated (I’m not a big fan of that series so I don’t really mind not getting this one...) while the prizes are Vocaloid based. Those I’d have loved to get.
The book also features an article on Christmas traditions in Japan (like ordering KFC), and one on onsen.
Fanta Mango Jelly Drink & DIY
As usual I’ll be covering the DIY in a new topic- only because I do have a handful of pictures and a few choice words...
Okay, so our first item is a jellied, mango Fanta drink. It might be a little strange to have in December, but right now when it’s June it couldn’t be better timing!
Each can is 68kcal, which I think is pretty nice because with it being full of jelly it’s bound to fill you up a bit more than a normal drink would, and if you happen to be weight conscious or don’t want a big meal it could be a good addition to the meal.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I feel like if you like mango you’ll love this, but there’s a small chance if you don’t like mango you might still like it. Whatever you do do not smell it >3< maybe it’s just me, but as much as I like mango it always stinks. It’ll taste good but the smell is very unpleasant.
Texture is another thing to take into mind because this drink has it. If you don’t like gelatinous things this might not be something you would consider trying. I love jelly textures though :P
Salty Green Pea Mini Chips & Vegetable Potato Sticks
Next up are two semi-healthy vegetable themed savory snacks! The share pack item are the bags of potato sticks by Calbee, Each bag is only 44kcal and packed with 9 vegetables! You can even see bits of them in each stick.
These I’m pretty sure I’ve had before, but I don’t really remember so i will be rating them just to make sure.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
The flavor is light but it’s there, it doesn’t really taste like one specific vegetable though. It kind of reminds me of a very light, non-breath threatening sour cream and onion. They have a medium-crisp.
Our next item are these mini chips by Bourbon, in salted pea flavor. Every 37 grams (which might be the entire bag) is 1 serving, for a total of 207kcal.
It’s hard to tell in the pic, but they kind of have a faint green coloring.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I didn’t really like these when I first tried them, I didn’t taste anything but some salt. However, the more of them you eat the more the flavor comes through, but oddly they don’t really taste like peas to me (I hate peas so it’s not a big deal), they make me think more of pistachio.
Apple Chocobi & Bourbon Strawberry Chocolate Chips
Okay, you can probably tell by now that Bourbon is kinda featured a lot in the box. Not a big deal though cause they got a lot of variety :3
Our first item in this pic is the Apple-flavored Chocobi. I admit I’m not a huge fan of these, usually because they go stale before I can finish them and they’re too sweet in my opinion. But I do like to try new flavors, and I love apples so I decided to remain open minded about this one.
These are made from apples all the way in Nagano Japan, and this set includes some cute, Crayon Shin-chan stickers in various locations in Japan. The one I got is Kagoshima.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I was very surprised by how tasty these are~ They are sweet but not cloyingly, and they actually taste like real apples, but they kind of remind me of cereal too.
For now, I think these might be my favorite (or at least liked) chocobi :3
Our next item I was very excited to try! I love strawberry chocolate, and chocolate-covered chips are usually-always delicious~
Each pack is 199kcal.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
They pretty much taste like their name “chips covered in strawberry chocolate“, with a hint of salt. It makes me think of eating McDonalds fries with strawberry milk or ice cream actually, but they are delicious!
The flavor might be a bit odd, but I really think it’s good. I want to keep eating them~
Kumamon White Sesame Cracker
Our next item is a dense white sesame cracker, I think it also has a very light glaze and broken up pieces of nut in it. It kind of looks like something you would give a bird doesn’t it?
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I thought it was kind of yummy, I love sesame seeds. But I also feel like I taste a bit of peanut, which I hate. I also didn’t like how dry it left my mouth after eating it. It’s also a little bitter, and sweet.
I feel like this is an “acquired“ item, because I gave a piece of it to my mom and she dislikes sesame seeds. Now, I’ve given her mochi with sesame seeds and she doesn’t seem to hate them, but this she didn’t like at all.
See, it’s unique things like this I wish they gave us more often. Maybe more rice-based products?
Melon Bread Cookies & Burnt Caramel Taiyaki
Next up we have two sweet items, first up being a small cookie based on Melon Pan (bread that resembles a melon. Only some of them actually taste like melon though).
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥
I’d say the melon-flavoring is a medium-high in rating, and I think the cookie might be shortbread. I thought it was nice for a bite sized cookie.
The larger item on the side is inspired by a Taiyaki (fish-shaped pancake-like treats filled with cream, jam, or chocolate). This is a popular snack item by meito and is flavored burnt caramel, these specific taiyaki are made from wafer with air popped chocolate inside~!
This specific flavor is 87kcal, and they have a handful of different flavors. As of now, I’ve tried two or three (soon to be four hint hint) of these, they’re so good.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
The black color might look a bit scary at first (or not, I like black so I thought it was kind of fun), but oddly to me it actually smells and tastes a lot like brown sugar and pancakes, I love caramel but I thought this tasted amazing!
I would highly recommend trying this, or any of the others if you can find them!
Bubbly Cola Ramune Candy & Tomato & Cherry Gummies
Okay so... one of these items I was extremely dreading to try. Wanna guess which one?
Our first item here is the cola candy inspired by a real pop. If the picture doesn’t imply anything, this is very foamy. I noticed when sucking on it, the foaming is very slow, and the candy has a teensy bit of sourness. But when you bite into it, it will foam a huge amount! It filled my entire mouth!
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
As I say all the time, I love cola (I’m even drinking coke as I write this) so I really like getting to try the unique cola-flavored Japanese candies. I think these were really fun, and each pack actually has 3 of them in it so these would be a fun candy to share with friends or to give someone if you wanted to play a cute little prank on them ;p
The next item meanwhile... I was terrified of it. It’s our Kinosei (health snack) is a bag of these tomato and cherry gummies. They contain a blend of natural collagen and lycopene to increase ones natural beauty. They also lower blood pressure, refresh the skin, and help ones heart. It’s also naturally refreshing.
Each bag is 94kcal. They are squishy-soft and jelly-like on the inside. They smell strongly of ketchup and sweetness.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥
I kid you not, each time I smell these I cringe. I HATE tomatoes, but ironically I really like ketchup. Because of this, I was honestly afraid of this, the only reason I tried it was because I figured “it can’t be any worse than that Takoyaki ramune right?“
They’re actually not bad though; I was shook! I can’t really explain the flavor though, it’s like a cross between cherries and the acidicness of ketchup. Does that make sense? They’re have a neutral sweetness to them, and they actually are kind of refreshing.
A few years ago I saw tomato jelly (basically a jelly tomato) on cold noodles during the summer and thought “what a strange concept“, but now I feel like I understand it a little more...
Bourbon Sylveine Chocolate Cake
To go with the holiday box, of course they had to include a holiday staple- that being a delicious cake! Everyone has a cake on Christmas in Japan, along with the KFC or home-cooked meal. Like a few other items this cake is by the brand Bourbon.
Each cake (or box, I’m not sure) is 102kcal. There are six cakes in total, so you could essentially use this as a dessert for a meal if you wanted :3 The cake is a soft, creamy yellow with thin sections of cream between the layers, and it is covered in chocolate and topped with something. I’m not sure what it is, but it reminds me of a raisin in taste and feel.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
These are delicious- they’re a lot like little snack cakes you can buy at the grocery store, in fact I wouldn’t be surprised if these are the Japanese version of them.
The cakes are very soft and squishable, but not soft enough that they can’t be eaten in your hands if you really wanted or had to. But the chocolate is super-melty and a little bit bitter in taste.
I don’t get to have fancy cakes as much as I would like to (nor can I make them just yet...), I couldn’t help but feel fancy eating these cuties~
Oh, and I did share them with my family, don’t worry.
Takoyaki Umaibo & Christmas Pizza Poteko
I was pleasantly delighted by the variety of savory items we got, and surprised too. Our last time items are also savory :D including an Umaibo I’m not going to review because I’ve already had it.
I will say that I think it’s delicious though- way better than the horrible takoyaki Ramune drink. It doesn’t taste fishy, but I honestly can’t think of how to describe the flavor either. It’s covered in seasoning, and it seems to have a very thin, saucy layer or glaze, matching the sauce Takoyaki is usually covered in.
The last item, which I will review because it’s new is an item we get all the time, Poteko rings. You’ve seen these several times on here, but again, when we have a new flavor I’m more likely to be open-minded, and I was kind of curious because we hardly get pizza-inspired snacks.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
They strongly smell like cheese, but I actually didn’t taste pizza at all. To me (my mom agreed but my dad took some time to agree as well), it tastes like a McDonalds cheeseburger!
Like an exact cheeseburger from McDonalds. Bun, burger, cheese, ketchup, pickle and all. It’s very delicious, but it kind of made me wonder if they make burger flavored snacks...
♥ Cutie Ranking ♥
Content - 5 out of 5. I loved everything! There was also a nice change in that we had a LOT of savory items, and I thought they did well in terms of item variety. There was a bit of each thing.
Theme - 1.5 out of 5. Sadly I thought they did decently with this before, but this year was really lacking. I could feel the spirit on Christmas with the box, but if I didn’t know it was a Christmas box and didn’t get the one item with a Christmas wrapper I wouldn’t have been able to tell it was Christmas themed.
Total Rank: 9 out of 10. An awesome box, one of the best to have gotten I thought. All they had to do was focus more on the Christmas theme they were going for and I think it could have been a perfect 10.
♥ Cutie’s Scale of Yummy ♥
1. Burnt Caramel Taiyaki - Like I said, I’m not sure it tasted like caramel. But I really liked it! If I see it online I’ll definitely be buying it, I just hope the next one I get tastes as good, if not better~
2. Chocolate Cake - I’m glad we got six of these because they are very delicious~ My dad and I loved them, but my mom was less receptive since it reminded her of dark chocolate.
3. Strawberry chocolate chips - I like em, what more can i say :D
4. Takoyaki Umaibo - I may not be able to describe the flavor well but this one is a winner!
5. Mango Jelly Drink - I really liked this, but as I already warned- try not to smell mango items. They will either smell delicious, or like feet.
6. Cola Candy - I love cola, I love pop, I think fizzy candy is fun to try; I was a little surprised they were kind of sour though.
7. Apple Chocobi - Again, I was surprised by how much I actually liked these. Only because I’ve never been into Chocobi that much. They don’t taste bad, but I gotta remember to eat these before they go south (stale).
8. Pizza Poteko - I’m still convinced they taste like cheeseburgers, but they are good :P
9. Tomato & Cherry Gummies - I was really surprised by these!
10. Melon Bread Cookie - It was okay. I like melon, but for some reason I’m not too into melon-flavored baked goods. I love melon candy and drinks.
11. Potato Sticks - They don’t have a huge amount of taste but I still like them enough. I like the texture too.
12. Peas Mini Chips - They weren’t bad, I just like other items more.
13. Sesame Cracker - I really did like it, but I wasn’t too crazy about the desert left in my mouth after eating it...

Cutie Reviews: Tokyo Treat May 2017
Here we go Cuties, the second official crate beneath the “rebranding” of Tokyo Treat! I loved this crate to begin with, but the fact it’s grown BIGGER and comes much sooner only made me much more excited~
This months theme is.... Spring Fever ♥
After I started to write this, it occurred to me that I forgot to take the pictures of the Lucky Treat items, as well as the Prize Items of the month, so I’ll cover this really quick for anyone curious:
The prize items include a Totoro Bud Vase and Totoro Watering Can, along with the 3-month subscription. The runner-ups gain 1-month subscription and a Totoro mug ♥ Meanwhile, Lucky Treat included a variety of Miku Hatsune goods, tokyo milk treats, apparel, Pikachu plushes, two mario items, and a full gachapon set!
As usual I start with the items I don’t eat/use in the post. That includes the Hana Kappa DIY Gummy Kit, which I will cover in a separate post and am very excited to get to because this is another one I wanted to try and just never bought yet. With it is the little trinket/toy item of the month: a Calimero Mobile Phone Strap. These little guys are special, because they are exclusive to specific Japan souvenir shops. There was 4 possible styles to get and they are about 3.5 mm in height. It’s cute, but I do have to admit that I won’t be using it on my phone. It’s just not what I’m into, so I’d rather keep him as a collectable item.
The one item from this pic I will review is the drink however, a Nectar Peach & Cherry Blossom Juice. A special edition Fujiya Nectar drink made from white peach puree and embedded with the extract from a cherry blossom flower. Also, you are warned to shake well before opening, and if anyone is curious, it has 170 calories. So in terms of the healthiness scale, it’s about the same level as drinking a pepsi.
In terms of flavor, it’s... strange. It smelled so familiar to me, it took me a few minutes to register why that was. It smells, and tastes a little like the Sakura Mochi Tirol Choco, I tried a few months back. Upon first sip I find myself repelled from it, but as the flowery taste fades, you’re left with a peach-cherry fruity taste, which is pleasant. I also like how smooth the drink itself is, although I’m not sure I actually like the drink itself. 3 out of 5.
As usual, I enjoy trying to group together my items. So here we have the 2 kitkat sets and pocky. You may notice the mess in the center of the plate- which is the result of trying to make the Baked KitKat - Butter Cookie. I’d like to point out that it looked right when I turned off the toaster oven, but it took me so long to get to it... it burnt and fell apart when I tried to remove it.
For anyone curious, it did taste good despite that. It does contain 0.17% alchohol though, and is a total of 64 calories. They do taste like a butter cookie though, and the taste gets a bit stronger the more you eat. I’m not really sure how I prefer these, given the one I ate was fairly charred in comparison to the non-baked one.The texture is a little grainy, but I assume it’s for that baking feature. 3.5 out of 5.
Next is the KitKat Winter Edition Everyday Luxury. They come in a variety of chocolate, and white chocolate, and each are adorned with almonds and cranberry. Also note that the white has 38 calories, while the regular has 39. The white chocolate also contains 0.36% alchohol and is scented like rum.
The black kitkat is a little bitter in taste, but with the crunch of almond and cranberry, it tastes pretty decent. The white chocolate one meanwhile, I noticed you pretty much just taste the almond and cranberry, but I don’t hate it. I give the both/set 4 out of 5.
Lastly is the Pocky Mild Milk Cocoa, a brand new pocky recently released boasting the lack of artificial-anything. There are 136 calories in the little box, and as you can see, the sticks are chocolate as well. The taste is light and lacks artificial sweetness, but it isn’t actually bad. As much as I love sweets, sometimes it’s nice to have something toned down. 3.5 out of 5.
I hope you didn’t think we were done with the chocolate yet, cause this is part 2 ♥ I’ll start with something most of us Cuties know well. The Taiyaki Chocolate Monoka. A wafer snack that I have had a few times on this blog (the previous one was a panda shape, the time before that it was a square with a One Piece sticker). The outside wafer itself is thin and cripsy, while the airy chocolate inside is so light ♥ definitely 5 out of 5. Meanwhile, the 7stick pack included in the Dagashi is very similar, but the chocolate flavor is somewhat bitter, but I like it, 4 out of 5.
Following this, we also got a little box of Doraemon Chocolate Snack, celebrating the upcoming release of Doraemon’s latest movie at 112.4 calories. Right away this reminded me of cereal, and they suggest you can eat it as is, or after chilling it in the fridge. It still reminds me of cereal, although it tastes a little better than most chocolate cereal. I still have some left and noticed it also tastes like the caramel corn product I reviewed a few times on the blog. It isn’t bad, but the longer you keep them, the more stale they taste. Again like cereal :D 4 out of 5. They’re okay.
Next are two unique items (as well as the two items I wasn’t sure how I felt about after eating). First is the Melonpan Mini-Cookies, based on what else, Melon Bread. They definitely taste like melon, and while I like Melon, I didn’t like these cookies much... I’m not really sure why, but I could just barely finish the first one. After that I didn’t want anymore. 2.5 out of 5.
Next is the very unique Waraku No Sato Yokan, which is a treat made from red bean paste, sugar, and agar. They have been around for a long time now and can be eaten with green tea, or even found with nuts or fruit in them sometimes. It has 167 calories in it. It pretty much tastes like a jelly cube with a bean texture. It is very soft too, and I loved squishing it ♥ 3.5 out of 5.
Now, after the rich, savory treats I thought it’d be best to head to the sweeter, mostly-softer sweets ♥ I’ll start with the item I didn’t like too much, that being the Green Apple flavored lollipop candy, part of the Dagashi set. It’s a cute little spiraled ring pop you can play with and eat. I’m not sure you can tell, but in the picture I have it on my pinky finger. I really like lollipops, but this is pretty much artificial green apple coated sugar. 3 out of 5.
Following the green lollipop, we have the green GOTCHI Kiwi Gummy. A chewy gummy of 162 calories with a sour sugar coating. I really like these! I can’t say its entirely accurate to the flavor of a real kiwi, but it isn’t that far off? 4 out of 5.
Lastly is the ultra-cute Shake Shake Yogurty Fruit Gummies ♥ What makes these popular is that you can eat them as is, or put them in the pack and add the yogurt powder provided with it. Either way they’re delicious! They come in orange, strawberry (which the booklet says is apple), and pineapple, and I admit the texture is a little odd, they feel dried out, but squishy. But I really like their taste, especially with the yogurt powder (which tastes like most Japanese yogurt flavored things). 5 out of 5!
(If you want to see more of these then don’t worry, I got another pack of it in my Kawaii Box~)
We’re approaching the last few items now Cuties, First is the Sankaku Crackers, a cute little tray of triangle, flavored crackers that taste like a garden/vegetable blend flavor of cracker or chip, which I actually really like despite how much I dislike regular vegetables. They’re also soft and generally pleasant to snack on. 4.5 out of 5.
Also from the Dagashi pack is the Chibeans, these ultra-cute little green crispy snacks that look like bean pods ♥ They’re so cute, I almost didn’t want to eat them (for the first ten minutes or so, then I got over it). Their taste is unique, but... pretty much what you would expect from it? I’m not even sure how to describe it. 5 out of 5 though.
Last in this picture is the Baby Star Panmen Olive & Salt Flavor, a noodle snack made from bread dough. I suppose I kinda get that salt flavor, but I can’t say I notice the olive very much. Even my mom, who hates olives ended up enjoying it. To me, I was reminded a little of the chicken broth in cheap ramen cups. They’re actually soft too, which I like because it’s easier on my mouth. 4.5 out of 5.
Now, here we are at our final item of the blog! Yet another umaibo, whose flavor I actually don’t know. Mayonnaise and shrimp are shown on the wrapper though, and it pretty much tastes like that. As usual, Umaibo manages to surprise me and win me over. I like the taste of mayonnaise, but I’m not big on sea-food (unless you count sushi), but the flavoring on this is light enough that it didn’t bother me at all. 4.5 out of 5.
♥ Cutie Ranking ♥
Quality - 4 out of 5. Everything was fine, and I found myself pretty much liking everything in some manner, but I also gave most items a mid-low ranking. So...
Content - 3.5 out of 5. There is a theme (as mentioned above), but I’m not sure how well it was followed. I did enjoy the products, but usually when they put effort into the themes they normally do very well. I can’t say I really felt Spring in this.
Total Rank: 7.5 out of 10 Cuties! I didn’t like this one as much as I did the past box, but I did enjoy it a great deal. I’m kinda hoping we get a little more variety, or at least a closer theme match next time.
♥ Cutie’s Scale of Yummy ♥
(While writing this review I had a terrible migraine, because of this I decided not to include the usual CSoY. I apologize to anyone who might actually read them, but working with head pain is not fun.) Okay Cuties, that does it for this review! Until next time, stay cute!
