I love the idea of teenage Malleus hating his new baby brother Silver but slowly falling for him
words cannot express how much I adore that Mal's reaction to seeing a human baby for the first time was "the fuck is this. why does it look like that. gross." (then he immediately got stuck on babysitting duty and the rest is history)
I am SUCH a sucker for that trope of "non-humans being fascinated by normal human behavior", so between that and all the delicious angst going on I was eating VERY well. >:) Malleus being so impressed that two-year-old Silver can walk, because it took him twenty years to stand on two legs! Lilia barging in on the Zigvolts at 2 AM being like "he won't stop crying what do I do"! Lilia trying to feed Silver rats and Malleus being like "...please just stick with what the books say to feed it"! it is all so. chef's kiss.

hold on, late night fantasy au snippet (its short, emphasis on this factoid). context: early days of the neighborhood, most of them are still getting to know each other. frank has a crush <3
~
“So,” Eddie says conversationally, “and let me know if I’m overstepping, but how did you get that scar? I confess, it’s been eatin’ at me for days. There must be some sorta story behind it.”
In a heartbeat, Frank lists the qualities of the man in front of him.
Handsome.
Incredibly sweet.
Too sweet, easy to take advantage of.
Charming accent.
Handsome.
A man of honor and righteousness.
Handsome.
The only logical conclusion? Impress him.
“It’s not all that interesting,” Frank says. He shrugs in a way that he hopes comes off as nonchalant, but not aloof. “[INSERT GRAPHIC WAY OF SCAR-GAINING HERE]”
There, now Eddie will surely be impressed, and perhaps even in awe of - oh no. He looks sad. Why does he look sad?
“That’s terrible,” Eddie says with upturned brows and soft, shiny doe eyes. “That really happened to you?”
Frank’s brain says, No, of course not. That was a lie to impress you. I actually got this scar from an exceptionally sharp - and heavy - book falling off of a library shelf. It landed directly on my face and knocked me out instantaneously.
Frank’s mouth says, “Not all of us had a happy childhood.”
That was, evidently, the wrong thing to say. Eddie’s melancholy expression turns stricken and ashamed, and Frank is keenly aware that he just dashed any hope he had of this beautiful person ever liking him.
“You were a kid?” Eddie nearly whispers. Real, honest tears gather on his ridiculously full lashes. “I’m so sorry, that’s… that’s just awful.”
Frank doesn’t know what to say to that. It’s far too late to tell the truth, but anything he says further would just deepen the hole he’s landed himself in. Luckily - or unluckily, it’s hard to say - Eddie doesn’t seem to expect him to say anything else.
He mumbles another guilt-ridden sorry and faces front again, staring mournfully at the ground and radiating discomfort. Frank has a feeling that he’s projecting more of the same.
Curse this man’s sensitive nature - Frank’s varying tales of how he got his facial scar always garner sounds of amazement or astonishment. Of course Eddie, handsome sweet Eddie, would find the story horrifying. Frank doesn’t want to imagine how he’ll react if he found out that his tearful response was unwarranted. Here’s hoping that never happens.

Authentic Story of the Shining Force - Saint Fencer Max - Chapter 4
Translation notes:
This is the last boob joke. We're free at last.
Here's the retranslation of every scene with the Spring of Recollection in the game. Overall, her speech here is fairly close to what she says in Waral in-game, with a few details from her final appearance sprinkled in, like her care for Cain. It does misses a few nuances though, like the Legacy being more than just Dark Dragon.
I don't think I've ever seen art of the Spring, but notably, she gets a portrait in the GBA version, and it looks a lot like the manga design, with the slightly wavy hair and especially the blank eyes.
Obviously, the manga rushes through the plot since it's short, thus a lot of places are skipped. I didn't even feel like pointing them out before. However I will point out Waral not being here this time, because Waral happens to not be in the beta map either, and it has very contradicting lore between the ASCII guide and the World Book, meaning it might have not been well developed. Besides, Chapter 5 is very weirdly structured. You get two ship battles that are basically the same, you get to Waral by accident, you advance the plot by going to Ring Reef for no reason and everyone telling you it's off-limits while letting you waltz in anyway, and hardly anything happens in the shrine besides you hearing about the Manual, which is not even a big deal because you get to Rudo by accident later (two ship accidents!! why repeat this plot point!!) and would go to Dragonia anyway to help Bleu.
Basically, I obviously can't prove it, but it wouldn't surprise me if the ocean shrine was initially thought off as only a plot scene, and the battles/town added much later for gameplay reasons.
Perhaps worth mentioning, the GBA version also makes a point to mention that Max got lost in the shrine alone, and everyone was worried about him, which does remind me a lot of the ship scene here.
uh oh. i hit image limit for the first time and i don't wanna remove either of these pics. more notes on a reblog later.

have some cherry magic feelings i yelled at my friend yesterday (in part because all my cherry magic feelings end with "big day for kurosawa, is all i'm saying", and i blame you entirely :P):
thinking about how adachi in the show continually states that he has no dreams, he has no aspirations, he just exists in a continual state of eh
and he goes for the design competition but only at the encouragement of like five other people all telling him to do it
and even in the movie he takes the promotion but not because he strove for it but because it was given to him
and then thinking about how he says okay time to put in the work towards making myself indispensable, to becoming the star of the data analytics department, to becoming irreplaceable
and he's doing it solely so he can claim kurosawa as his without impacting his job
and thinking about kurosawa, who has just wanted someone to see him for him rather than just a handsome guy his entire life, who has pined in silence for adachi for seven long years, who has had such a tumultuous beginning to their relationship where he hasn't been sure where things are and then they're separated and then adachi's ill and he finds out completely by chance
having adachi look him square in the eye and effectively say "my dreams and aspirations are you, i want to be able to call you mine to anyone and everyone who asks, i am 100% sure that you are it for me forever because of how much i care abut you and not your appearance"
big day for kurosawa is all i'm saying
BIG DAY FOR KUROSAWA IS ALL WE ARE SAYING!!!
