Growing Mermaid VR-LA and Dani

Mermaid chirps/songs will be treated as English when in the perspective of a mermaid, only with bolding and italics, to separate it from actual English once Maxim and VR-LA are together again. Some chirps and songs and hums aren't language but rather happy sounds! Like sighs or huffs.

VR-LA stretched as he pulled himself up onto the rock, letting out a happy little hum as the sun warmed his scales. He laid down over it, arms sprawled out. Dani pulled herself up next to him, sitting rather than laying, similarly looking up at the sky to feel the sun.

"Warm." Dani chirped, the spikes on her fins laying almost flat. "You're taking up too much space, move." She gently pushed at VR-LA's side, trying to get him to stop sprawling out.

"The rock is too small for us, get your own!" VR-LA argued, refusing to stop sprawling, instead pulling more of his tail up onto the rock, much to Dani's frustration as she hissed at him.

"It's the best one though! I always get to lay here!"

"I got here first!"

"I'll tell your mom!" Dani threatened, slapping his tail with hers to try to push it off.

VR-LA stuck his tongue out at Dani, who stuck her tongue out back.

"Kids! Stop arguing and just share!" His mom called from a bit away, where she was gathering shells for a project.

Dani puffed up, rather proud at the fact VR-LA's mom was on her side even without tattling. VR-LA scooted enough for Dani to attempt to fit, letting his tail hang off the edge again, splashing the water idly. Dani laid down with him, letting out a pleased chirp.

VR-LA watched the clouds as things went quiet again, hardly noticing as Dani began to fall asleep in the warmth. He only realized when he heard his mom calling for him again and turned to say bye to Dani, finding that she was breathing evenly, her eyes closed.

VR-LA smiled.

VR-LA pushed her in the water before diving into the water himself, laughing as Dani awoke and began throwing out human curses at him. He frantically swam away from her as she gave chase, quickly circling behind his mother as a defense from Dani barrelling into him as she began scolding them.

last song: Gloria by the Lumineers

favourite colour: Red, like a deep luscious red that you know would taste good if you licked it. Don't act innocent, you know exactly what I mean by that. Red is a color that you just know tastes good.

last book: I am currently trying to read the Witcher series (per @lickthecowhappy's suggestion) so I am at the start of the Last Wish

last movie: Moana 2 (I have young kidsssss)

last TV show: My oldest is almost 10 which means she stays up late. Which also means I have so little time to watch adult things. So we've been watching the Office with her. I think I want to watch the Good Place with her next tho (I've never watched it!)

sweet/spicy/savoury: Sweet followed very, very closely by spicy. Habanero maple syrup is one of my favorite things on the planet.

last thing i searched online: How to explain a 10 year career hiatus in a cover letter (looking to return to work since having kids. It's been an interesting experience so far).

current obsession: Have not moved on from Good Omens, but recently realized that my obsession may be more in my own little connected universe of fics that I wrote rather than the actual canon at this point😳. I'm sure once we get that first glimpse of red and white hair that will change very quickly.

looking forward to: Going back to work and having a more established adult life again, honestly. I've been so lucky to be home with my kids while they are young, but I am ready. And figuring out how my newfound passion for writing is going to fit into that new life of mine. Another big year of change over here for me, and I am eagerly looking forward to how the growing pains are going to make way for something beautiful beyond.
