February 18, 2021: The Danish Girl (Review)

Before I go into ANYTHING else...let’s talk about the actual Danish Girl, Lili Elbe, or Lili Ilse Elvenes.

Oh, uh, full warning, this is gonna be LONG, so skip to the bottom if you’re just here for the Review! OK, history time!

Now, what the film The Danish Girl notes about the beginning of the transition is pretty spot-on, from what I can tell. After marrying portrait painter Gerda Gottlieb in 1904, the two lived in Italy and France before moving to Paris in 1912. Yeah, that’s over 14 years before they’re shown doing so in the movie. Inaccuracy #1. In 1908 (here comes number 2), Elbe (Einar at the time) painted this portrait of trees along a fjord in Denmark.

Yeah, NOT in 1926, as the film says. But, yeah, that’s a nitpick, I recognize that. Anyway, the revelation came when model Anna Larssen (not “Ulla”, which is Inaccuracy #3) was late, and Gerda asked Elbe to fill in. When Larssen eventually showed up, she suggested the name “Lili”. Basically, this scene from the movie was pretty goddamn accurate.

Except for the dates, anyway. Because while the movie mostly takes place around 1926 and afterwards, this probably happened closer to 1920, in Paris. So, yeah, Lili spent a LOT more time as Lili in real life. Additionally, Lili was pretty goddamn public about the whole thing, inviting guests and hosting parties as herself, rather than as Einar. At the same time, Gerda was getting pretty goddamn famous for her paintings of Lili, like this one.

Which, yeah, are really good! Also, they were considered lesbian erotica by many! YEAH! And here’s a fun fact: Gerda may not have been straight-up straight. Yeah, the film and the book (we’ll get there) kind of ignored the fact that their marriage was annulled by the Danish government, not by the two of them. Inaccuracy #4. Now, obviously, their relationship ended, and Lili ended up getting together with a man (we’ll get there, too), but there are a LOT of unanswered questions about Gerda’s sexuality, and views of sexuality (which is barely hinted at in the “male gaze” speech in the beginning).

After the annulment, the two just...drifted apart. Their relationship dissolved, and the details on that are fuzzy. By 1930, Lili was headed on a completely different path. She wasn’t a painter like Einar (and it turns out that she thought of them as two entirely separate people, like two souls living in the same body, which the movie got mostly right), and she was mostly unsatisfied with her career, life, and other things. And that is where Drs. Erwin Gohrbandt and Magnus Hirschfeld come in, NOT Kurt Warnerkros...yet. He’d come in for the other five (YES FIVE) surgeries, but wouldn’t be involved with the first. Inaccuracy #5, and also #6, while we’re at it! See, the film would make you think that Lili was the first complete gender reassignment surgery, but she was actually the second. The first would be Dora Richter, in a procedure that was performed by Dr. Hirschfeld from 1922 - 1931. YEAH. BIG-ASS INACCURACY THERE. Here’s Dora, by the way:

Anyway, Lili had her first procedure, to remove the testicles, performed in 1930. In the same year, the divorce between Lili and Gerda was finalized, and Lili legally changed her name. Two more procedures were performed, the first to implant an ovary, and the second to remove the penis and scrotum. Inaccuracy #7, by the way. And, hey, let’s go for number 8! Let’s talk about Henrik, a dude who didn’t exist. He and Hans were both very loosely based on an art dealer named Claude Lejeune.

Claude was an art dealer (there’s the Hans part), and was indeed in love with Lili. They got together around early 1931, and he’d actually been in love with her for a good, long time. He proposed to marry Lili, and she accepted, also hoping that the two would be able to have children together. But to do that, it was believed that Lili would need a uterus. And, obviously, having children would be MILES more complicated than that in basically EVERY way, but this was early in medical science’s understanding of some of that biology.

In any case, however, Lili would need both a uterus and a vagina to feel whole. And so, the fourth surgery was scheduled. And she had that surgery in 1931, a couple of weeks after Dora Richter successfully had the same surgery performed. But, sadly, Lili wouldn’t be so lucky.

Lili’s body rejected the uterus, and while transplant rejections of any kind wouldn’t necessarily be fatal now, they definitely were back then. They attempted to remove it, but that subsequent 5th surgery caused infection, which caused a fatal heart attack three months later. Lili Elbe died on September 13, 1931, at the age of FORTY-EIGHT. Yeah, Inaccuracy #9.

By the way, you may be wondering: what about Dora Richter, the first successful person to get these surgeries? Well, she disappeared...in Germany...as the Nazis were coming into power...yeah. Fuckin’ YIKES.

And so, that’s the true story of Lili Elbe. And there are far more differences than that, I’m sure, but those 9 inaccuracies aren’t insignificant, that’s for sure. Although, it probably doesn’t help that the movie was based on a fictionalized book.

Oh, uh...did I not mention that? Yeah, this movie is based on The Danish Girl, by David Ebershoff, which means that this film is essentially a cinematic game of telephone. Which, uh...not great. Granted, Ebershoof made some other...interesting changes, which the film didn’t inherit. In the book, for example, Gerda is named Greta, and is American? Um...why? I dunno, it’s kind of weird. Oh, and that’s not including one more issue with the movie. But, you’ve waited long enough, huh? Recap of the film is here and here if you wanna check that out! Let’s get to the Review already!

Review

Cast and Acting: 8/10

I am...conflicted. So let me start here by saying that the acting in the film in and of itself is fantastic, all-around. Not a weak actor in here, that’s for sure. Let’s start with the side-roles, for once. Ben Whishaw, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Amber Heard are all good. Heard’s accent is a little shaky, but they’re still all solid performances. OK, how about Alicia Vikander? She’s great! And she won the Oscar for...Best Supporting Actress. Um...wait...Supporting? But not Best Actress? Uh...OK. That’s a little weird, let’s be honest here. But, Alicia Vikander did deserve that win over...oooooooh, Rooney Mara in Carol? Maybe not...damn.

And OK...let’s get into the elephant in the room, huh?

Eddie Redmayne is fantastic as Einar Wegener/Lili Eber, and I genuinely think he had a great shot to win Best Actor...but, yeah, Leonardo DiCaprio definitely deserved it, I think that goes without saying. Hell, that year had a SOLID line-up for best actor. And Redmayne had even won it the year before for The THeory of Everything, another biography where he played Stephen Hawking. But ALL of that said...HNNNNNNNNNG, there should have been a transgender actor cast in this role, ideally. Now, I’m fully aware how difficult that would be, as Hollywood isn’t extraordinarily diverse in terms of including trans actors in massive mainstream projects. It’s better now, but it’s nowhere near ideal. But if anybody knows an actor who would’ve fit this role and performed it well, I’m DEFINITELY interested. So, despite that controversy, Redmayne was pretty goddamn great in this role. But, uh...that doesn’t mean everything is perfect...

Plot and Writing: 5/10

OK, that seems low, I know. But it’s pretty goddamn damning that this movie was based off of a heavily fictionalized book instead of the actual life story of Lili Eber and Gerda Gottlieb. And because of that, there are not only some missed opportunities, but some straight-up damning inaccuracies. That’s a set of pretty poor decisions, I tell you what. Not sure why Lucinda Coxon came to that decision when adapting this screenplay, but it wasn’t exactly nominated for Best Screenplay. And the writing certainly isn’t bad, but it is...overly saccharine sometimes, especially for a film based (loosely) on a true story. I dunno...just not the best set of choices here, sorry to say.

Directing and Cinematography: 8/10

Tom Hooper shouldn’t direct musicals. However, since this wasn’t a musical, directing and cinematography here is pretty damn good! Real talk, this is a gorgeous looking movie, and the way shots are framed are fantastic. Perfect? Weeeeeeeell...given the fact that painting is a main focus of the film, for both Gerda and Einar, there should’ve been more painter-quality shots in here, I think. And while the cinematography by Danny Cohen is pretty fantastic, I can’t say that it’s perfect. Still, in terms of lighting and general skill, it’s still quite a good looking movie.

Production and Art Design: 10/10

But the deficiencies in the direction are EASILY compensated for by the production design! Like, hot DAMN, this is a good looking movie, like I said! That goes from the construction of the sets, to the gorgeous outfits all over the place, especially Lili’s outfits. Some iconic pieces of wardrobe there, that’s for sure! But if I have ONE complaint...this movie never once felt like the 1920s. Yup, good old anachronistic complaints from me again! Yeah, I’ll change the record one of these days, I promise. But even with that, it’s hard to ignore just how good this movie looks, to be honest. It’s just...gorgeous.

Music and Editing: 8/10

As I type this, I’m listening to a track of the film on YouTube, and it is a beautifully delicate tune. I’m not sure that I’d be able to associate it with the film if presented to me on its own, but it’s definitely a nice track to listen to by itself. Playlist worthy? For somebody, almost certainly, but not for me. One of these days, a film like that’s gonna pop up, I swear. But for now, Alexandre Desplat and his score are gonna stay off my iPhone. This really is a nice score, though, I promise. Editing by Melanie Ann Oliver is pretty good as well, and I’ve no complaints about it, to be honest. Overall, this side of things was quite nice, if not the most notable thing I’ve ever seen or heard.

I might have been a little harsh, but it’s still got an 78%.

This is a good movie, but...I dunno, the inaccuracies do bug me. Hell, there are WAY more than what I’d mentioned, and I mentioned a lot. Not to mention the other glaring issue: no trans people at any stage of the production? Really? No script consultants, no writers, no NTOHING? That’s...egregiously bad. Like, holy shit, guys. And, yes, this includes Redmayne, because even though he performed admirably in the role...I dunno. I’m no expert on ANY of this, as a cissexual dude with cissexual experience, but it feels a little...reductive, is all. Like I said, if any other actors have been suggested for this role, I’d love to know. The whole thing feels...I don’t know, just not great. 

And by the way, that’s without even TOUCHING the question as to whether or not this film is authentic to the trans experience. Again, I have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA, but I’ve also heard that this film isn’t universally acclaimed in the trans community, so to speak. And I’m definitely interested in the reasons for that. All I know is this: from the perspective of a complete outsider, I was intrigued by this films view of the transgender experience, specifically as seen in the earliest days of those realizations happening and being publicly known and reported on. And that’s all I can really comment on, in truth.

February 19, 2021: The Phantom of the Opera (2004)

OK, I'LL TELL YOU YOU ABOUT FEATURE

They seemed to have lost their virginity at an average of about 14 and by college had tried more drugs than I'd even heard of. From their point of view, as big company executives, they were less able to start a company, it doesn't seem as if Larry and Sergey seem to have felt the same before they started Google, and so far there are few outside the US, because they don't have layers of bureaucracy to slow them down. didn’t do merch cause i did that in london, didnt go for studio cause that was probably not feasible with how our lines were going (at least i was too scared to do it).. sucks cause i didnt get allowed into the london booth while in the amsterdam booth everyone was queue-ing up anyways and getting in lol

pre concert stuff So I was going to the concert with a person(Julie) I met through tumblr, she responded to my message asking if people wanted to queue up in GA with me cause I was alone. She was with a group of people and they basically adopted me so that was nice!!  Julie was super kind, constantly looking out for me, for my anxiety too and just I really loved being with her, time really flew!! We prioritized looking out for eachother over seeing the boys so I was really happy bout that! We basically queued up at 7AM in the 'unofficial line' that later on became the official one! Campers were sent out, I believe, but they probably came back early still! We still had a fairly decent spot I suppose? The camping out itself wasn't too stressful but I had a lot of anxiety bout being in the pit in a crowd of people, not havin bathroom breaks and being on 2 hours of sleep gjkfg Julie tried to reassure me through all of that. there were some fans giving out some stuff in the line!! like arts and stuff and i got this from a jimin fansite, i think she was japanese? 

it was so funny basically she did rock paper scissors with fans to determine if they’d win.. i lost but she gave it to me anyways?? LOL she didnt give it to anyone else that lost LOL

gettin into pit Eventually we got in and fortunately my tickets worked!! We like rushed into the left side but the view was not bad, ok, then we tried for the right side and we got similar views? But I think overall it was just a little better! We were around the sixth/fifth row in the pit but we moved up a bit to the fifth/fourth during the concert. I had a fairly good view on the stage, and could see the boys clearly!! I still used my iphone to film cause of the amazing quality zoom it has and i have so much gooood footage ahhhh my hands are super shaky though so thats annoying but oh well, its something! they like handed out water very often thank god so i could cool off and drink durin the concert!! we had to stand for like 3 hours inside so i was getting really nervous but once the concert started it was fine!!

concert Anyways the concert itself was mindblowing? They're actually sosososo good live it's actually insane how they sing live through their choreo or while bouncing around. Tear is still my favorite performance but the crowd went a little too wild around then so i didnt enjoy it as much :( They also did the medley I prefered (w Baepsae) which made so happy cause i got to experience both medleys now jdskfhfsdf.. i do feel like the performances were better for the London date, but the interactions and the boys happiness were on a much higher level in Amsterdam, especially with jungkook flying around trying to dance!! That said I felt like the crowd fell a little bit flat.. When the Jimin/Namjoon VCR was playing everyone was screaming initially for both but after a hot minute they like only screamed for Jimin?? The silence was actually deafening so Julie and I decided to help with Namjoon's screams then, and it was so disappointing we were legitimately the only 2 people screaming for him in such a venue lol. Crowd did however go wild at Kim Seokjin's performance, and IT'S WHAT HE DESERVES. Overall I think Seokjin and Jimin had the best reactions in Amsterdam, and London both.

Gonna be honest with y'all I was so busy filming Jungkook solo all day that I didn't really notice others?? fdjkghdf since i already had thel ondon date i figured today was jungkook's day now i had sights on him proper.. Some notes, Yoongi, Jimin and Namjoon spoke some Dutch and it was super cute!! Yoongi did it first fjgdkhfdg 

Yoongi: Super smol but big hands, and fluffy cheeks (he bloats really easily lolol) his see saw performance was REALLY good today too, i feel like reaction to seesaw is the best, everyone's always singing the whole song w it while most of the crowd struggled with their title tracks in both london and amsterdam LOLLL yoongi must be so proud over it.. also he's the first to speak in dutch to us but it was like really suddenly right before they were performing so nobody really noticed fjghkdfg and u know when he makes a dad joke and he smiles flustered, but nobody reacts to his jokes.. he did that thing LOLLL

Namjoon; very long and slender, his legs are legit 70% of his body and he went offffff today like when he's into shit like tear i cry cuz oh my god merCY kjdfhgdhjkfg Namjoon seemed to really love Amsterdam tbh he kept talking bout stuff to do while the others had fairly standard stuff to say, with a lot of repeat from the london concert too (which is fine vconsidering its hard for themt o speak in eng too)

Hoseok: He looks a lot sharper irl?? im not sure if i said differently last time, but now i saw him up close he's definitely much more handsome, cameras dont do him justice.. also he always has the most gentle smile on his face and it calmed me down a lot jkfgh

Taehyung: tbh im not sure if i missed him but i didnt really see him on my side a lot? i think like a few times i tried to film but couldnt really get it..?? julie did tho.. he's kind of.. small? but not small like yoongi but small like i'd confuse him for a high school kid.. BUT his face?? is really smth else his face is SO small but his features are sooooooo big and sharp.. god himself shaped this boy

as for jimin's birthday.. omg he's so cute? they were at the extended stage when his birthday message came up (a message in dutch) and he like instantly rushed back to the main stage to show off his birthday message and he proceeded to talk in dutch about how it's his birthday, and how army are his gift?? it was suuuper cute!! imagine Jimin practicing his dutch just for this moment fdgkjhdf

Anyways onto ma boy!! Jungkook is absolutely unreal pretty. He didn't look as bloated/pained today so i guess i saw The Jungkook today and he's so.. sharp looking??? like his jawline and cheekbones are insane and like the dimple?? ughhhhh he looked a lil smaller now i was upclose but his thighs were still gods gift.. also he did forehead kookie instead of coconut kookie, i remain blessed.. he always hears my prayers..

throughout the show he was honestly super cute, he kept dancing in his chair to the choreo, spinning in circles while doing it, hopping around the stage slowly to wave and look at every fan.. he even looked towards me at some point but i legitimately dodged and turned away cause like I FELT SO GReaYS ANd i'd rather not have him see me like that lmaooo anyways it's so super cute how despite his injury he still tries to give it his all at all times, and now he could walk around he's instantly back at trying to make interactions with all fans?? a precious baby honestly!!

his ending ment was really-really sweet as well and it always amazes me how eloquent he can get when he gets to share us his real feelings.. i really am glad he's not too disappointed in himself anymore and has reached a point where he's just working on getting better instead<3!!

iPhone SE review: Apple's $399 iPhone lives up to the hype

There are a lot of ways to think about Apple’s new $399 iPhone SE. One is that it’s a more affordable option than the iPhone 11 ($699 at Amazon), with surprisingly similar camera specs, which it is. Or that it’s the 2020 sequel to the original SE from 2016, which it also is. Or, at 4.7 inches, that it’s the smallest and cheapest iPhone you can currently buy (though it’s not that small). Or — and this is my favorite way to think about it — that it’s an iPhone 8 with the brains and power of an iPhone 11. In fact, the new iPhone SE is all these things and that’s why I’m enamored with it.

The new iPhone SE has the classic design that defined the iPhone for its first 10 years. The design, the body and the camera lenses are all the same as 2017’s iPhone 8. But Apple performed a clever brain transplant, replacing the nearly 3-year-old processor with the A13 Bionic processor used in the iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max. This goes well beyond a simple spec bump by majorly improving things like the cameras and battery life. The new processor not only runs faster, but it will likely future-proof the phone through years of iOS updates.

But a $399 (£419, AU$749) iPhone comes with compromises, which Apple chose wisely. The SE has only a single rear camera, it doesn’t have Face ID and it lacks camera features like Night Mode, Slofies and Deep Fusion processing. The selfie camera is OK but not as amazing as the one found on the iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max.

When you look at the complete picture, the iPhone SE represents the most value for your dollar of any phone Apple sells. It has an attractive price, fantastic battery life, great rear camera, A13 processor, water resistance and support for wireless charging. The SE is not only a wonderful iPhone, but one of the best budget phones you can currently buy.

The iPhone SE’s iPhone 8 design

Physically, the SE is an iPhone 8. The front and back are made of glass, the chassis and sides are aluminum. The only physical difference between the iPhone SE and iPhone 8 is that the Apple logo is now centered on the back to match current-generation iPhones.

The new phone has Apple’s old-school forehead and chin bezel above and below the screen. This makes the SE look, well, old. This is the one of the few things that I’m not too thrilled about. It’s not ugly, it’s just dated. And that might appeal to some people, but not me.

Having used Face ID for the past couple years, it’s a strange and familiar feeling to set up and use Touch ID. It’s like going from an automatic transmission back to a stick shift. But in the right car, stick shift can be a blast.

I forgot how much I missed the home button and how it makes interactions and navigation less fussy than swipes and holds. I tap and hold to pay for purchases instead of angling my phone to get Face ID verification. A speedy double-tap shows recent apps. Though Face ID has its own benefits, the home button is still as satisfying to use as it was back in the day.

For tiny phone lovers, the iPhone SE’s 4.7-inch LCD display isn’t as small as the original SE’s 4-inch screen. But it’s still smaller than most phones out right now and is enough to be portable and comfortable for most people.

The screen on the SE is similar to the one on the iPhone 11, especially in terms of quality and resolution. Text looks sharp, colors are accurate and it’s bright in sunny conditions.

The iPhone SE is rated IP67 for water and dust resistance.

The iPhone SE is rated IP67, meaning it can withstand being submerged for 30 minutes at a depth of 1 meter (about 3 feet). I wasn’t able to test this claim, though I did submerge it in a liter of water for 30 minutes and everything worked fine. This level of water and dust resistance isn’t something you normally find on phones under $400, so it’s particularly noteworthy that the iPhone SE has it.

The SE comes in three colors: black, white and red. The iPhone 8 had its own red version too, but it had white bezels and damn if the iPhone SE doesn’t look more striking in red with black bezels.

The iPhone SE’s battery life is longer than the iPhone 8

Apple’s website says that the iPhone SE’s battery lasts about the same as the iPhone 8, but my testing showed it lasted much longer. I played a looped video on Airplane mode at 50% brightness and the iPhone SE lasted 15 hours, 45 minutes. That’s hours longer than what the iPhone 8 and iPhone SE lasted in the same test when they were new. Anecdotally, it made it through a day and a half without a problem, and a couple times it went two days straight without a charge.

In our early battery tests, the iPhone SE easily outlasts the iPhone 8 and original 2016 iPhone SE.

I should note that I have more battery tests to run (including streaming video tests), so check back when I’ll update the results.

The iPhone SE has wireless charging, which is another feature not found on most budget phones. There is also support for fast-charging, which replenishes the battery to 50% in 30 minutes. But the iPhone SE doesn’t come with the necessary 18-watt charger and instead includes the slower 5-watt one. Again, this is likely to keep the cost of the device low.

iPhone SE has A13 Bionic processor performance

The longevity of Apple’s iOS support for “older devices” is a quiet but significant appeal of owning an iPhone. The iPhone 8 and its A11 processor are now two-and-a-half years old and will likely stop receiving iOS software updates a couple years before the iPhone SE and its newer A13 Bionic processor.

In performance tests, the iPhone SE was consistently better than the iPhone 8 and (no surprise) the original iPhone SE. It scored similar results to what we got on the iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max.

In real life that meant app launches were peppy, playing games like Sky: Children of Light and Doomsday Vault were a breeze. Editing photos was easy and I could even use graphics-heavy AR apps such as Wonderscope, which transformed my bedroom into a training ground for ghosts.

iPhone SE cameras have Portrait Mode, Smart HDR

The rear camera on the SE has the same specs as the iPhone 8, but when combined with the A13 chip and iOS 13 it transforms the camera into something that can compete with the best phone cameras, and even go toe-to-toe with the main rear camera on the iPhone 11. It has a slew of features, including Smart HDR for photos, Quick Take filming and Portrait Mode — these are impressive features and a first for a $399 iPhone.

The iPhone SE has a single rear camera that has SmartHDR and Portrait Mode for photos.

The rear camera on the SE has a 28mm f1.8 lens while the iPhone 11 has two rear cameras: a main wide-angle camera with a 26-mm f1.8 lens and an ultrawide-angle camera with a 13mm f/2.4 lens. I do enjoy the ultrawide-angle on the iPhone 11 but I didn’t miss it during my time with the iPhone SE.

When I compare photos taken with each phone, it’s hard to distinguish between them unless you bring them onto a larger screen and even then the differences are subtle.

In good light, photos from each are similar in terms of image quality. Look at the pictures below of a tree I took in my backyard. Can you tell the difference? You see my point. The most obvious difference is that the iPhone SE photo is framed tighter than the iPhone 11.

Both phones have portrait mode and produce excellent results. The 11 can capture portrait mode photos of both people and pets. The iPhone SE, like the iPhone XR ($599 at Apple), can only do people. It’s not until you look very closely at the photos below that you can see that the iPhone 11’s portrait mode captures just a bit more detail and less noise.

In the picture below of my shoulder, you’ll notice the quality of the falloff from in-focus to out-of-focus areas looks more natural on the iPhone 11 than on the iPhone SE.

Below are photos of my bike trainer taken indoors in medium lighting. The most obvious difference here is the framing is tighter on the iPhone SE. But the iPhone 11 captured more detail, which you can see on the wall outlet. And if you look at the bottom right side of the trainer, you’ll notice the iPhone SE suffers from noise in the shadows. That said, there isn’t a huge difference between the photos. For indoor and medium light photos, the 11 has a thin edge.

As for video, both phones are similar. The iPhone SE and 11 can shoot 4K 60fps video, but only the 11 takes advantage of the extended dynamic range at that resolution and frame rate. The SE has extended dynamic range for video, but only up to 4K 30fps. Take a look at my iPhone SE review video to see samples of videos captured with the iPhone SE.

The one place where there’s a big difference between the two phones are the selfie cameras. The iPhone 11 has a wider front-facing camera, and it’s capable of shooting 4K and slow-mo videos. The iPhone SE only shoots 1080p video and no Slofies. Both have Portrait mode for selfies, but photos from the iPhone 11 show more detail in my skin.

Synopsis: -

Falling in Love is never in her agenda when she first planned to move to London. But she can’t simply resist his charm. Will she make the same mistakes again?

1.

She glanced at her Rolex. The watch show 00:34 midnight, but that was in California time zone. In her mind, she makes a rough guess of what her family might be doing now, especially her closest sister Kylie who is younger by 1 year. Her overly exaggerated mother might be trying to avoid the incoming call from her transvestite father who will be super freaking out when he realized that his so-call favorite daughter Kendall has finally grown a back bone and walk out from the family house. Well, it was not exaggerating for her to just walk out of sudden. She did announce to her family a week ago, after she received a return call from her job interviewed with Burberry Limited for the glamorous position as one of the company Fashion Merchandise Buyer staffs. The company expecting her to start work within 3 days but she has asked for a few more days to search for accommodation in the heart city of London. Both her mother and Khloe just laugh away at her attempts for independent life. Kendall admitted that she has been rather disappointed with them. She expected to be receiving happy praises and supports. Only Kylie and Kim bother to congratulate her. Kim Kardashian to whom she has secretly loathe. She even offers to send her to the airport but Kendall had flatly refused such offering. It is enough that Kylie had send her to the airport. She definitely did not want any soap drama wherever she goes if Kim Kardashian happens to be nearby.

She glanced out the small window by her side. Her plane has reached the outskirt of the British capital. She was supposed to lift down the lid of the window as the plane gradually descended down to its landing destination at Heathrow Airport. She closed her tired eyes for a bit. She did not get much of a sleep as she remains nervous for what waiting for her when the plane touchdown on the British soil. This is the beginning of her long gateway to be independent and just shine under her own spotlight. Not to become shadow of someone like her secretly-hateful sister Kim Kardashian. And she got to proof to everyone of what she is capable of to strive successful in her chosen new career.

‘I can’t be the old Kendall Jenner. I can’t be the once foolish and weak woman that I used to be!’ She repeatedly said it - like a mantra with her eyes remains closed.

Not long after, Kendall was pushing the trolley that carries 2 large size Louis Vuitton luggage and her Hermes duffel - walking straight to the queue for cabs. She did not expect anyone from her new company to pick her up in the airport. Not even her only close friend Lydia Miller who she will be meeting later for lunch. The queue line for the cabs did not take much of her time when she boarded the available cab after her stuff had been carried inside the car booth.

“Where to lass?”

“Ritz Hotel please.” Kendall did not bother to look up at the driver. She took out her mobile. Heaving a dreaded sigh as she saw Khloe number on her phone screen. Reluctantly, she touches the green button. Before she could even greet her sister, shouts from both her mother and Khloe could be heard above the congested traffic. The cab driver glanced up at Kendall at the rear-view mirror for a fraction of minute.

“Where the fuck you are, bitch!?”

“Don’t curse your sister like that, Khloe!?”

“I don’t give a fuck of her self-centered feeling, mom! She deserves to be called worse than that…!”

“This is the main reason why my babies left this house. Because of you Khloe. You’ve ruined everything!!”

Kendall cringes as their loud outburst could be heard. She really wants to kill herself at this moment. The cab driver tries his hardest not to overhear the shouting match of the famous Kardashian family. He finally realized who his passenger is. She resembles a lot with the wife of David Beckham who he initially guesses but the woman is way much younger than Victoria Beckham.

Kendall could not wait for another minute longer. She ended the calls and even went a bit far of switching off her Apple iPhone. She caught the eye of the cab driver and apologized for the small commotion. The cab driver just waved her off.

“No big deal, lass. I do have family members worse than that.” Kendall nodded her head tiredly. “Why don’t you close ye eyes for a bit now. I’ll wake you up when I reach the hotel later.” The kind cab driver offered sympathetically after seeing of how tired her face is.

The cab driver stop the car right in front of the hotel main entrance. After she makes the travelling payment, she went about to check-in at the hotel reception area before following the bell boy to her hotel suite at level 9 of the glamorous hotel. She inspects the whole perimeter of her suite room. It is not too large for her and it has all the necessary stuff she needed during her 1 week stay. Her apartment will only be ready for her by next week. So, in the meantime, she has to commute to her new workplace from the hotel starting tomorrow. The distance between the hotel and her workplace is not too far apart but she will need to buy a car when she moving in to her new apartment though.

After putting away her clothes from the luggage, she looks up at her Rolex again. She has already altered the time following the local time zone. She has another 2 hours before her lunch meeting with Lydia. She has enough time for a short nap.

Dele frowned.

He is furious to listen his pleading voice that belongs to his mother on his voice mail. He knows immediately who has been the sole culprit that gives away his number even when he has specifically begged her not to. His adopted sister Molly.

“Dele…? My son, it’s me your mother. Please love, please pick-up my call. I’ve misses you a lot. I don’t understand why you are doing this. Why you refuse to-“

Dele refused to hear another lie again from that woman. How could she call herself his mother after the years she has lied to him and still trying hard to deny it. Dele has been struggled to accept the truth even after been advice by his adopted father Alan. It has since been 5 years now. He did not bother to confront his Nigerian father Kehinde either. He knows what to expect to hear from that man too. Like his adopted father reminds him to just keep on living the dream that he has chosen. A prolific soccer player who makes great name for himself for both the club and his international debut for England. He had chosen to play soccer for England instead of Nigeria due to his dual nationality.

He takes in a long deep breathing and closed his eyes. Counting to ten, he slowly opens his eyes and walks to his brand-new Rolls-Royce which he had park nearby. He looks at the time from his Tag Heuer watch. He has another 2 hours before his lunch meet-up with his best friend Harry who also happens to be his adopted brother and Molly’s eldest brother. But he won’t mention about Molly dishonesty. There is no need for him to make the situation worse with Harry stepping in. He will handle the situation on his own.

He drives his car out of the parking lot and turn to the north exit heading straight to direction of his mother house. He decided to check-on her from the distance where he will feel better that his mother is doing alright. Well, she doesn’t sound that ok from the voicemail. Despite the bad blood, he might have with his family, he still felt very responsible towards his Alcoholic mother Denise after all, he is her only son. Upon reaching his old hometown, he slowed the car to a stop and hide behind one of the vacated neighbor house. He did not get out from his car instead he just observes for any movement from his old family house. 10 minutes later, he saw his mother Denise comes out from the old house. She looks absolutely fine - not swaying from the alcohol that she might be drinking, even during breakfast.

“She seems to be perfectly fine…” It has always break his heart to watch his mother struggled to lead a normal life despite all of her lies and her fight against alcoholism. But he has already at the breaking point to the life that he was force to live in. His multi-billionaire father, after splitting up with his mother, has choose to thrown them out like some thrash. He should be very happy now living with his new wife Lola somewhere in Nigeria or they might be living here in London. Dele couldn’t care less of them as he revved up his car engine and turn to the direction of his meeting point which will be quite a distance from his hometown though.

It took him exactly 45 minutes to reach Regency Café which located at Regency Street. He rushed inside the almost full café that buzzled with customers. From far, he saw Harry already waiting for him. He was on his Apple iPhone. Dele guess as much that he will be on call with his girlfriend Lydia Miller who work as the Fashion designer for Chanel. Without waiting to be seated, Dele pulls out the only chair in front of Harry and signal for the waiter to take his order.

“Honey, I’ll call you later. The ass-hole has finally decided to turn up after keeps me waiting for 30 minutes.” Dele smiled at his best friend apologetically. He brings his palm together and shake in front of his frowning brother cum best friend, Harry Hickford.

“I…I had a quick meeting with the coach…about this weekend match against Everton. You know him, Harry?” Dele raise his hand to call over the waiter to take down his order. “My coach will drag on to talk about other mundane stuff.”

Dele said out his order to the waiter with Harry just watch his adopted brother. They have been friend for more than 10 years and Dele has become his brother for 8 years now. Harry’s parent, Alan and Sally Hickford decided to adopt Dele when he was 13 years-old when Dele real mother gave him away which Harry knows that it truly hurts Dele’s feeling even though the Spur’s Attacking Midfielder did not say much to Harry’s parent, not even Harry.

“So why did you ask me to meet you here instead of at our house?” Dele turns his attention to Harry. When he had bought the Hertfordshire house, he has dragged Harry to share that big house together and they have lived for almost a year. His Lingerie model girlfriend, Ruby Mae also living together with them.

“Well…Lydia wants me to pass you this invitation card to you, Del.” He took out the B5 pink invitation card from his Gym bag. Dele took the offered card and immediately read through it. Harry watch Dele eyes moving as he read through the wording in the card and his eyes had move twice on the name stated on the card. “You know that Lydia and Ruby did not get along that well. So…”

Dele just waved his hand at Harry as if telling him that he is cool with the situation between their partners. Ruby was not invited to Lydia fashion show. It was only his name written on the card. And he understands now why he need to meet Harry at the café just for Harry to pass the invitation card. Both Harry and Lydia has been Dele best of friends. The three of them has becomes best friend first before Harry and Lydia even decided to start dating. When Dele had first introduced Ruby to the couple, he knows and witness with his own eyes that Ruby had hate Lydia during that first meeting. Dele had persuaded with Ruby to get along with his 2 best friends and cast aside her dumb jealousy towards Lydia career as fashion designer. Eventually both Harry and Lydia knows about Ruby envy which lead Lydia to move out from Dele’s Hertfordshire. Dele could not stop Lydia from moving out but Harry relent to his brother plea. And since then, there is not a single day goes by without a fight between Dele and Ruby. Harry refused to interfere but Lydia has never cease to voice out her opinion for Dele to break it off with Ruby.

“Lydia will never rest voicing out her suggestion for me to look for a better girlfriend.” Dele looks up at Harry. He smiles at him. “And lately you prefer to stay at Lydia’s townhouse. How is it like? You know, I still waiting for her housewarming invitation. I promise I won’t bring Ruby with me.”

“You better not! If not, tornado will erupt in the city of London.” Both men laughing out loud to Harry silly presumption. “Anyway, please turn up on this event. It will make her so happy to see one of her best friend since Milton, show up for support.”

Dele nodded his head. “So, what you gonna say to Ruby?” Harry asked as his hand lifting his teacup bringing to his lip, sipping his Latte.

“That I want out from this suffocating relationship?” Dele look at Harry, straight in the eye. And his voice sounds tad serious.

Silence

“You…sure want to breaking it off with Ruby?” Harry carefully putting down his teacup. Dele nodded again. And after a mere minute later, he gave Harry his famous lopsided smile. “Lydia better introduce me to one of her hot model.”

Both men breaking into another row of laughter again.

Kendall sip her now cold Caramel Macchiato as her eyes searching for her old friend Lydia Miller. She met Lydia when the latter had work as an internship for Karl Lagerfeld. At that time, Kendall was a young runway model on her first job in the modelling world. Both women were very nervous for their first job in a real world and when Kendall started the first conversation to the British woman who was found sitting in the corner, after being scolded by the Grandpapa in Fashion world, their small conversation had blossom into a beautiful friendship. For 6 months during Lydia internship with Karl Lagerfeld, Kendall had stay by her side as both friend and sister. They even rent the same apartment not far from Kendall family house at the downtown LA.

Kendall had been saddened when Lydia decided to move back to London, turning down job offer from Karl Lagerfeld. But despite the Pacific Ocean that separates them, they remain close ever. Kendall make a point to call her British sister once a week catching up with each other life and career. Recently, she learned that Lydia had moved out from her best friend from Milton Keynes Hertfordshire house after sparring world with the best friend Lingerie model. Lydia had rented one of those luxury townhouses in town which is nearby with Kendall townhouse too. Well, it has been with the help of Lydia’s boyfriend great findings along with his simply magical negotiating skill that Kendall could easily purchase her first ever house in just 1-week. Now her townhouse is still undergoing renovation and scheduled to complete next Monday. She has trusted both Harry and Lydia to representing her in choosing the best design for her townhouse. She knows that Lydia will never disappointed her.

She straightens her body at the moment a lady in purple outfit enter the café house. “Lydia! Over here!” Several heads turn to her when she unintentionally shouts out to her old friend. Kendall simply ignore them and keep on watching her friend as she walks to her table.

“Have you waited for me long?” Lydia asked right after they did their mandatory greeting - hugs with their cheeks touching lightly on both side. Kendall noticed a man who sat across of her - on her right side, keeps on watching her with that smile on his dark brooding handsome face. She just nodded her head slightly to him before turning her attention to Lydia.

“Not that long. My Caramel Macchiato still sizzling hot.” She makes room for Lydia to take the seat on her right who literally blocking the view of the brooding man. She has the feeling that she ever saw that guy before but she is not sure where. She waved her hand over to the nearby waitress and help Lydia order for her favorite coffee Caffe Mocha with extra whipped cream. Meanwhile Lydia took out the pink invitation card to her first ever fashion show for Kendall. It is rather too late for her to ask Kendall to be part of her runway models and she feels bad of asking her either since she knows her American friend has been a bit frustrated with her socialite family. No matter she is very pleased that her friend had taken her advice to start anew on new soil in London. Lydia knows that London has much to offer Kendall a new life.

“Here this is for you, Kendy.” Kendall accepted the pink invitation card and quickly run through it. She is very proud of Lydia. In just 2 years after turning down the job offered by Karl Lagerfeld, she has make her marks in the Fashion World. “Wow this is nice. Did you invite that old fart?” The old fart is the name that they exclusively referred to Karl Lagerfeld.

“Of course, why not? Even after all these years I wanted to show him how bloody talented I am!” Kendall nodded her head in agreement.

“Will you bring anyone on this event, Kendy?” Lydia has a grand idea of who she wants to introduce to her best friend Dele. That person is sitting across of her in her Vintage Floral Button High Waist dress. She wonders where in hell that Kendall gets this sweet-candy dress.

“I will be bringing myself, Lydia. And no. You are not allowed to introduce me to any of those ruggedly handsome British men in the event. Not even Harry too. I know what’s both of you are planning to do for your beautiful American girl-friend.” Kendall smiles seems to be force though.

“Well, ok but I’m sure you will be sought after by those eligible suitors even if it’s not comes from me and Harry.” Lydia pretends to be hurt by Kendall accusation and she feel very frustrated when the American beauty keeps on laughing despite her poor acting. “And you dress looks so hideous.”

“Ohhh…that is a low blow, Ms. Miller!” She leans over the small table and swat the shoulder of her friend. “This is from Celine, Ms. Miller!”

Kendall sweet laughter is absolutely contagious despite herself, Lydia too joining in laughing together. And it also attracted some of the customers in the café who turns to watch them with a smile. Some of them realized that the lady in the floral vintage dress happens to be Kendall Jenner. She is one of Kim Kardashian baby sisters. Some tries to snap a picture of the beautiful Kendall Jenner but they had been approach by the café staffs to respect the celebrity’s privacy.

Kendall indeed has been watch by the brooding handsome man and he could not stray his eyes from that beautiful face. That man happens to be Mats Hummels. The German soccer player who play for FC Bayern Munich as a central defender and currently in town to seek medication remedy for his injuries. He is alone but later in the afternoon while meeting with the specialist, Bayern Munich medical doctor will accompany him for a quick reviewed.

He knows the name of the beautiful woman from the cafe customer who speaks her name in their conversation as if they are friends. A while ago, Kendall had politely nodded her head to his direction. And he has been smitten by the small gracious action.

He wonders how to get her number. He is very much interested in getting to know her.

“Well maybe I could seek help from an old friend who happens to be a pal with the Diamond singer Rihanna.” He took out his mobile and scroll the name in his contact list. He presses the call button after found the name that he is seeking and now waiting for that person to pick-up the call.

• Who is your bias and why do you like them?  LEE JIHOOOOOOOOON OH MY GOD okay.

I love baby because as much as I love all thirteen of my dorks, I can’t imagine having anyone else as my bias. Yes, I had stanning issues and I admittedly still do, Choi Seungcheol is still my main bias wrecker after lol what 11 months? You can’t just forget your first bias. Anyway, because. Lee Jihoon makes my heart so soft, every time he’s adorable, he doesn’t even have to try. He makes me so happy and he’s just such a hard working person and what is there he cannot do? Like what 5 instruments? Studied classical music? Dances like an adorable little fluff bumblebee BUT IS ACTUALLY OKAY BUT HIS BODY MIGHT BE SMALL BUT HIS CHARISMA IS NO JOKE AND YOU ARE NOT LIVING IF YOU HAVEN’T HEARD HIM RAP.
