Hello! I've decided to have a little bit of fun this December and will be opening up requests for the month! Please see below for more details (With subheadings!):

Requests Overall

I will have 31 slots available for requests, first come, first serve. Each piece will range from 1000-2000 words in length and may (MAY) include a little doodle made by me.

Requests can be anything! They just have to be winter/holdiay themed (do NOT have to be releated to Christmas) and DCA-related

Winter/holiday themed means movies/stories too! Ex: i am a BIG fan of The Nutcracker (went insane when I saw @/robinette-green's au for the Barbie version lmao)

As most know I am an X reader writer, but as long as my general request rules are followed, I don't mind writing for ocs, canon, etc. 

For those who don't know my rules, no nsfw (suggestive is FINE), and if you want something specific, be specific. Besides that, it's fair game, request what you want

Potential Issues & Schedule

If there is overlap between request ideas, they will be combined in some manner of speaking (if possible). If needed, I will reach out to you about adjusting ideas or the likes, though I don't forsee this happening. This would occur if for example, someone wants gift shopping with Sun with their oc, and someone else wants the same thing with a reader-insert. Whoever requested second would be who I reach out to. 

I will be posting these throughout December, ending on the 31st

In order to have enough time to write, I will be starting these as soon as I get the first request. To speed things up a little, requests will be open from 11/29 to 12/13 OR until I receive 31 unique requests. So that's maximum two weeks to think of an idea and share it with me. 

If I don't get enough overall or get anything prior to Dec. 1 I'll probably come up with some ideas of my own, but only if that happens! Additionally, if I don't get enough, I may open it up for people to request multiple times, again only if I don't get enough or run out of ideas (genuinely don't know how many I should expect so just trying to cover my bases lol)

To keep things organized, please request in the comments of this post. This also helps to potentially keep from overlap in requests, as you'll be able to see what else has already been requested. If you request in my ask box or such it'll make things a bit more difficult, so please avoid that.

HOWEVER, there is one exception to the above, which is if you wish to request anonymously, which is completely fine to do! But please only request in my ask box if you want to be anonymous. If overlap happens in that case, then y'all may just get two responses with similar vibes on the same day (essentially a bonus lol)

Confused Spirit

For those who may be concerned (as I was before making this post lmao) Confused Spirit's schedule will not be affected by this! Now that it's back I'd like it to stay back lol. We may stick to an every two weeks schedule for a bit, or may go back to weekly, it will depend on life stuff, not on other writing things. I promise ^_^

Having little things like these also help prevent writers block, and thus stay more consistent with updates

Hey guys! 🙂 It's the end of 2024 and I realized today I haven't posted on here since finishing Veilguard.

Well, to make it short.. since then, I've spent a lot of time thinking about it, replaying it, watching my friends who are DA casuals and not into fandom play it (which was very enlightening but also hilarious 😂), so now.. I feel like I'm at a point where I know exactly what my issues with this game are and I've made peace with it. I still love Dragon Age! And I love parts of Veilguard and I had a ton of fun playing it (though probably for all the wrong reasons 🥲). When I first finished the game, I cried tears of happiness that after ten years my favorite character actually somehow got a beautiful Happy Ending and closure, but also tears of sorrow that this marks the end of the story that was set up back in 2009.. and tears of mourning that this story had all the potential to be so so SO much more.

Dragon Age is a very weird franchise in that all the games have been, in many ways, vastly different from each other and to be a fan of the whole series means to recognize all its flaws and changes, but still loving it because of its unique core elements that glue it together and make it so special. I could sit here for hours trying to put into words what I think went wrong with Veilguard, but I know many people have already done so far more eloquently than I ever could. This blog was always meant to be just a positive little corner to share my love for these games and silly VA stuff with other people and I'm sure I will eventually reblog all the two million posts I've liked over the past month, both positive and critical. But for now and the new year, I want to focus my time and energy on just being creative, getting back to drawing and trying to realize ideas about DA I've had for a looong time and that's my way of "emotionally recovering" (that sounds so dramatic 😂). 💜

With that being said... What a crazy decade year it has been for me personally in this fandom... So I want to look back at it, just some rambling under the cut, 'cause I'm a little sentimental now, I guess. 🥲

Before I created this blog, I was mostly just a lurker on here for many years, despite being a fan of BioWare games since.. uh.. forever? lol But I was always waaay too insecure about my English, let alone my own art. I also have social anxiety, so maybe that was part of the reason why I decided to finally create this blog at a time when the fandom was at its most dormant? lol (There is also a whole separate post for another day about how Mass Effect influenced me personally and how it made my biggest dream come true, the enormous honor to voice a few NPCs in (the German version of) Andromeda. Still the craziest thing to ever happen to me. lol)

So, seeing all the crazy excitement and the fandom fully revived this year and all these months leading up to Veilguard was both incredibly overwhelming, but also the most fun I've ever had as being part of a fandom! This year also marked the first time I posted my own art online and I can't even put into words how crazy it was seeing the response to that and I still can't believe that Trick Weekes not only commented on but also reposted it, that is still f*cking insane to me and I'll never forget the morning I woke up to see that. lmao

So yeah.. THAT happened. Followed by what I think has to be one of the weirdest, craziest marketing campaigns I've ever seen. lol Going back to 2022, we truly had it all...

A title announcement on a random Thursday that was probably done so that it would not be confused with the Netflix series announced a few days later. A tie-in comic more than a year before release that was... a little pointless? lol A vinyl collection that spoiled the composers a year before release. A title change literally two days before the first trailer. A reveal trailer that left many in shock because of its tone shift and complete lack of the former title character. A line of Game Informer articles that left us often times with more questions than answers. Every single article being deleted the very next month due to GI shutting down. An actor panel at SDCC happening right as Sag Aftra went on strike. A "fandom" party that had nothing to do with Dragon Age. Jason Derulo. An artbook that accidentally revealed the release date with its pre-order, which was then deleted. Twice. Memes about roadmaps. A second trailer that in hindsight probably should've been the first one. An audio drama by a different writing team with some baffling (but funny) lore mistakes. A combat showcase starting off with a disclaimer that "footage had been edited due to spoilers"... followed by THE biggest spoiler in literally the first ten seconds. The first IGN video with super spoilery dev commentary. A hand-on preview event with 140 people leading to spoilers galore... Did I mention spoilers? lol

That was when I stopped looking at stuff online, so I don't know what happened after that, but WOW, what a crazy ride that was. 🥲 Truly a DA4 Summer to remember and I'm unironically so grateful to have witnessed it in real time with all of you. 😂

Then finally, after ten flippin years of tinfoiling, speculating, reading crazy development stories and clowning around at every gaming live event, Veilguard was finally released and it will probably go down as the most emotionally charged Halloween of my life. lmao

Then it was time to actually play The Veilguard. Which took me about a month.

A month filled with what I can only describe as a crazy rollercoaster of conflicting emotions. Aside from everything having to do with Solas, I'd say my personal highlights of the entire experience was seeing Felassan (I screamed), the PHOTO MODE and even one hilarious "breaking the fourth wall" moment, where I would frantically run around in Elgar'nan's trap in "Blood of Arlathan", to a point where I would yell at the screen "SOLAS, I COULD USE SOME HELP NOW, HELLO???" and hearing his flippin voice literally two seconds later going "Yes, you called?" and I freaked out so hard I dropped the controller. 😂😂😂 Also, as someone who romanced Alistair in my first playthrough of DAO and brought him to the final battle not knowing he would sacrifice himself, you can imagine my flashbacks when I saw Davrin dying at Tearstone.. who I had romanced. 💀 Or the Dark Ritual flashbacks when I saw Morrigan wanting to talk to me right before the final mission. lol Getting the Felassan rune actually made me tear up a little. There are many little moments like that that I loved or that made me emotional, but ultimately.. Veilguard is a game that, for all the amazing graphics and cutscenes and flashy combat.. the more I think about the story and the lore (or lack thereof), the more I end up confused and trying to figure out what it is that's breaking the immersion to me in a way that the previous games didn't.

But anyway... I finished Veilguard, though the DA craziness of 2024 wasn't over just yet and I didn't know that the best was yet to come in December. lol

So.. Years ago, one of the main reasons I created this blog was to make silly "appreciation posts" about Solas' German VA and ramble on about my love for his performance.. I even remember making a post on here like three years ago talking about how I would sadly never EVER get a chance to meet his VA personally, because that man never ever goes to any fan conventions or public events. lol

Well... GUESS WHO I MET AT THE GERMAN COMIC CON EARLIER THIS MONTH!!!

YES GUYS, without sounding like a weirdo (because despite my obsession with voice acting, I don't care for VAs social accounts or anything beyond their work as a VA), but after years of jokingly referring to this blog as the "Ozan Ünal Appreciation Blog", and kinda the reason I made this blog in the first place, I finally met the man himself and it was probably the best friggin fan experience I could've wished for. 🥲🥲🥲

See, I've met a lot of different VAs at Cons before, who were all super nice and awesome to talk to.. but let me tell you, this guy has such an incredibly contagious positive attitude and charm!! lol Me and my friend were literally the last to stand in line at his booth before the event closed, there were TONS of people (there were quite a few VAs at the Con, but his booth had BY FAR the most people in line the whole day lol) and yet he made sure to take the time to talk with every single person, asking questions, was genuinely interested in our opinions, joking around and just generally SO FRIGGIN NICE. And he's just a very chill and funny dude? lol

And it was so funny, because there were SO many people and yet apparently I was the only person that day to talk to him about DA and Solas and he was SO excited about it 😂😂😂 (I bet like 90% of the fans talked to him about his VA work on Vampire Diaries, The Big Bang Theory, Gravity Falls and Nicholas Hoult lol).

And of course, because DA4 happened so recently, it was still fresh in his memory. He told us that he even watched some Let's Plays and asked what we thought of the game and I'm still laughing so hard, because he was literally like "Oh yeah, the lore is MASSIVE and it was so overwhelming and I could barely keep up with it, the whole time I had no idea what I was talking about.. like, what exactly IS Mythal??" LMAOOO His performance for Solas was so good and so convincing and now I'll always have to picture him standing in the recording booth, no flippin clue what he's actually talking about. lmaoo And then my friend was pointing at me like "She's actually a walking lore encyclopedia" and then he was like "Oh, you should've been in the booth then!" lol

And I'm actually quite upset on his behalf now, because he also told us how, when the English VAs were officially announced, he had actually made a post on social media about how he was returning for Solas in DA4 and how he got in so much trouble for that because EA told him they were going to make an official announcement.... AND THEN THEY NEVER DID??? Like, I was desperately waiting for an announcement about the German voice cast and they simply never made one, we literally had to wait for the credits to be published? (Also, the German and French version have only one female and one male voice for Rook and no one knows what happened there, we tried to contact them about it, but no response so far?? It's like they don't even care.) That's EA for you...

Anyway, we then chatted a bit more about his other work and stuff and he recorded an audio for me (I actually got him to say the "Vir shiral malasa, bellanaris" GUYS AND IT SOUNDS SO GOOD, like I was so nervous, asking "Could you do elven..?" and he was like "Sure, it's been a year, might be a bit rusty" and then he just knocked it out of the park?? lmao So I have both Lavellan's AND Solas' WEDDING VOWS NOW. 😭😭😭❤❤❤❤❤)

So yeah, that was my meeting with Ozan flippin Ünal and what an awesome guy and amazing VA and what an "epic conclusion" of this year of the Dragon (Age) 2024. lol And the timing feels so strange now, because, in a way, it feels kinda like coming full circle?

Like I said in the beginning, for years I was always mainly a lurker in the fandom and the reason why I created this blog was to join in on the hype/speculation train for DA4 and to talk about Solas' German and French voices and share my silly edits and gifs. And now I've played Veilguard AND I've met Ozan Ünal.. both things that, at some point, I wasn't sure were ever going to happen.....

So.. In terms of my fandom experience, this year was crazy and whatever 2025 brings and whatever happens with this blog or DA in general... I love this fandom (especially my little Solasmancer bubble <3) and I love Dragon Age and whoever's reading this, here's to 2025 and I hope you have a Happy New Year!! 💜💜💜💜💜

I feel like I overshare like crazy and can't keep secrets so this is interesting news. But I like being an enigma, a mystery, a locked box, a dark horse. Keeps people on their toes.

Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel, insanely fun song and the raunchiness takes a while to register but when it does it just makes the song so much more entertaining

So by Peter Gabriel, that entire album is so fucking good. It's a perfect distillation of the 80s sound, but it pulls from so many different places and it's so unabashed about it's purpose that it doesn't fall victim to the corniness that turns me off from so much 80s music. Obviously Peter Gabriel can sing and the instrumentation is out of this world, but it's the production that really makes this album. Every song is absolutely dialed in, the balances are insane. You'll listen to it and every other song sounds like mush compared to the absolute clarity and precision on this album. Perfect album to test out headphones or speakers. Love it, also the album cover and title are strokes of genius. Also honorable mention to The Downward Spiral by NIN, came in with a late clutch but I started listening to it for the first time during final season and that album is already in my top five, can't wait to do a proper listening sesh.

Favorite new artist from this year is difficult, any artist that i start listening to I've usually heard a few of their songs way before and I just decided to dig deeper. But my standout artist of the year is definitely Herbie Hancock, I've been working my way through his entire discography and the dude has helped influence so much of jazz it's insane. His early work has a very dry sound that is a little weird sometimes, but when he gets it right it's beautiful. Empyrean Isles is a gorgeous album, supremely chill. If I'm ever rich enough to have like a lounge room in my house, that album will be playing on repeat in there. Of course you've gotta mention Head Hunters, the stuff he does on there is otherworldly. Singlehandedly ushering in the funk revolution is commendable enough, but the sounds he makes on that album still sound completely forward-thinking. He could have released it today and it would still be celebrated as a pioneering sound. "Chameleon" is a perfect track, and that little disharmony section (if you're a fan of the track you'll know what I'm talking about is) is so fucking saucy that I can't believe it's a wrong note.

Movie of the year is difficult, especially cause my attitudes were so different in the spring vs fall semester. I also watched a lot in the spring (especially due to my film class) and I've watched barely anything this fall. But here are a couple of the best ones: In Bruges (one of the best original concepts I've seen, somehow Martin McDonagh knew exactly what my psyche needed to see and made that movie 16 years ago in preparation for my viewing it), Jurassic Park (specifically the Live in Concert one I watched over the summer, made me tear up with joy), Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (I think everyone needs to watch this movie. If I could only show one movie to a person who had never seen a movie and would never get to watch another one, it'd be this one. A pinnacle of the art form, literally took my breath away, no praise I have is enough for this film), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre ("They cannot conceive a world where Leatherface exists." I'm just gonna repeat my Letterboxd review here cause I think I hit the nail on the head: Under the golden heat of the Texas sun, deep in the thorny fingers and pale green wreaths of mesquite, far removed from any notion of of civility or sanity, right or wrong, life or death, sings the song of a chainsaw.) and Bicycle Thieves/Umberto D (I'm putting them both together because the effect is multiplied when you watch them as a pair, truly some of the most despairing films I've ever seen).

9. Best month for me? Very tough question my happy moments in life are usually restricted to singular days. Definitely nothing this semester, august and july weren't great either, neither were june or may, maybe something in the earlier parts of spring semester? 10. Mmmm tough question it was usually just me thinking about the state of my life and how stressed and hopeless and powerless I felt. Usually I'd spark the tears by watching some sad Instagram reels, but my go to was Anderson Cooper's interview of Stephen Colbert, where Cooper chokes up while repeating one of Colbert's gifts back to him: "What punishments of God are not gifts?". Recently though the biggest thing that's made me cry is the last verse of "Under Pressure", which I'm gonna stop talking about because I don't wan't to start sobbing right now. I'm actually really really grateful that I've become a lot more emotionally vulnerable to crying, there were several multi-month periods this year where I was worried that I'd lost the ability to cry, and crying really is such a sweet relief. I feel human again.

There's almost nothing I want to carry forward to next year, this year has been shit (also it's very hard for me to conceptualize my "year" as a calendar year i feel like this semester has been my entire year, spring semester belonged to Freshman Kumaren that's a different timeline). Yeah I honestly think every single habit or thing I did this year needs to be changed, and that'll probably be a lifetime undertaking but I don't like the person I am right now. 20. I learned that I chase women because I hate myself. That's the condensed version. My self-loathing and insecurity about basically every part of my identity leaves this huge hole in my life. I'm constantly vying for some woman or another because she has all the qualities that I want to see in myself, and I think deep down somewhere that if I can share her life with her then my own life will be happy cause she'll fill that hole I feel so acutely. I've known this in the back of my mind for a while now, but I've never had to directly reckon with it until this October, so I've had to swallow that pill unfortunately. I've also learned I really like beer. Modelo's are solid, great flavor. I was excited for Asahi but I was let down, a little too dry and clean, and the sweet grape-y finish did not appeal to me. Miller High Life have a wonderfully mild flavor, but the canned ones aren't always smooth, and the bottled ones lack body, they're thin. O'Douls non alcoholic beer sucks, beer sucks if it doesn't have that bite. Tejas Clara is solid, great flavor. Michelob Ultra is dogshit. Anything from St. Arnolds tastes like poison. Paulaner Marzens are good, but they aren't as robust as I'd like. Miller Lite is also pretty solid, I think that'll be my go-to cheap beer. Not too thin decent taste, nice and light. Shiner Bock is delicious, could very well be my favorite beer of the year. Deep, rich, caramel flavor, great body and depth. Beautiful head when poured, even the color is a fantastic dark maple. Of course, can't go wrong with Coors Banquet, not many complaints there. Probably the best body of any beer I've had, powerful flavor yet still light.

Man, I know you shouldn’t do this. But I was staring with increasing bitterness at the kudos/hits on Chrysalis and sinking further and further into the whole “what even is the point” mindset I’m so prone to. Probably this was triggered by having come to expect a handful of kudos with each new chapter and this time I didn’t get… any.

I think Bri is probably the only person who knows how personal this fic is to me and how much of myself I’ve poured into it. And I don’t really want to divulge what that means to everyone - maybe one day - but just rest assured this fic isn’t just the manifestation of an irrational love of a video game character (which it is, of course) but it’s… somewhat healing for me. And a gift to myself. And it took a lot, and I mean A LOT, for me to even put it out there.

I’m not saying everyone needs to shower me with praise and affection at all times, or that I think I’m uniquely incredible at what I do, or that I need validation to keep going - I am much more motivated by spite anyway lol. And I for sure don’t want to minimize the folks who have been devotedly commenting on every chapter, have texted me outside of here/AO3 to talk about it, have made FAN ART (which is crazy!!!!), have reblogged every chapter and sent me asks. I appreciate it so so so much and it means more to me than I could ever verbalize.

But like, damn. Sometimes the sadness has hands and sometimes it’s the absence of folks you thought would be there that’s all you can see, y’know?

And then I decided to look at the other Heisenberg/OC fics, and the ones that are purely platonic, and basically anything that isn’t 2nd person w/smut or part of a popular canon x canon ship. I looked at ones that came out right around the game’s release, ones that came out last week.

And like, damn. Chrysalis has a staggering amount of engagement in comparison, especially when you consider I published it two years late. I didn’t have an AO3 account at all until fucking February 2023. And that makes me feel sort of good, but now I’m just mad again lmao. You should not have to jump into things at peak popularity or have an established following or include popular pairings/tropes to have your work get noticed. I mean, logically, I know this is just how media and art works to an extent - and I’m not saying people who do write/create in the popular fandoms for popular ships are doing something wrong - but it really shows how unwilling folks are to step outside their comfort zones and read things that they think they’re not interested in or won’t like.

There are platonic, x oc, rarepair etc fics that are so stunningly beautiful that it feels criminal for them to only have a handful of commenters and kudos. And honestly the people writing these are doing so with an insane amount of passion because you HAVE to in order to keep finding the strength to publish that next chapter when you know you’re explicitly going against what people insist they want. Again, this extends to more traditional art forms too - how many fucking brilliant books and paintings are out there gathering dust because the creator didn’t have the right connections or they didn’t make something that had mass appeal?

I always try to do the “what advice would I give to someone in my position” exercise with stuff like this. And of course I would reference the reality that if you have ONE person who is cheering you on, it’s a whole complex person you’ve made happy and that’s a miracle in and of itself. And some folks don’t WANT to be noticed - they are much happier with small circles and good for them! But also - I don’t think people are wrong when they start feeling crummy from seeing their work get steamrolled or comparatively ignored.

Idk. Idk where I’m going with this except to say I really wish people would expand their fic libraries (and their media/art consumption in general) to include more than just whatever the current hyperfixation is because it gives them serotonin. Take a chance on something different, within reason. (I know someone will try to respond with OH SO YOU’RE SAYING I SHOULD TRIGGER MYSELF or something like good god, no.)

There are some truly awesome popular works and creators out there. Please don’t interpret this as me being some bitter small platform blog ranting because I’m not being elected prom queen. All I’m doing is thinking out loud and sorting through my own spaghetti brain. I think I’m gonna spend part of this weekend sorting fics with the least engagement/popularity first and leaving some comments on them.

It’s a brave and beautiful thing to make and then share art, no matter the form it takes. People deserve to be reminded of that. Frequently.

Hi there. I really hope this doesn't come across as rude or anything because I swear I don't mean it to. I saw you started to follow me recently so I checked out this SP side blog of yours. Normally the ship Cartters makes me really uncomfortable for personal reasons, as well as all the shippers of the two seeming to believe that Butters is some absolute demon child who deserves to be in a toxic relationship where he and Cartman destroy each other. But I saw some posts where you seem to ship it in a way where Cartman has a soft spot for Butters and becomes a better, kinder person because of his influence. The ship is still squicky to me for those personal reasons, but that take on it is actually really cute and something I can get behind and I don't think I've ever seen anyone else ship it that way. I think you may be the only Cartters shipper on this site that I respect.

I don't mind Butters being demonized for the sake of the shipping, Kyle has gone throught, so, so, so much worse and Cartman stans have to do insane mental gymnastics to pretend someone is just "as bad as him", also some of those people just simply don't like Butters (or Kyle) and that's fine.

Do those people deserve to die for having opinions on South Park yaoi i don't agree with? Absolutely, but that's not the matter here, i'm not someone who goes crazy over shipping crap

As for Butters... honestly i don't like blackwashing him, but i'm also not fond of stripping him of his depth and agency, he's adorable and cute and plush-shaped but there is a lot to him that isn't limited to being a victim of a cruel city, and i think nearly all of his main ships just go with both extremes with no balance between them, which is something i want to prevent

OK I hit you with the funny story 1st and the other one comes in a reblog for a reason.

Remember the Spider-Man thing? great audacity, great fuckups whatever?

A friend of friend has to do an airport pick up. He's making conversation with a quartet of dudes who have just showed up from somewhere out of state. They're so excited to be in Alaska and they want to know what kind of adventures the locals will recommend.

So this is the time when you don't bullshit tourists. They are they are already here and you might as well share the enchanting wonder and majesty of the last frontier. There is some insane shit that you can see here that will not occur to people who are not from here.

So our dude says, go check out the fijords, go see the glaciers. You can rent a boat and get a guide and paddle out and see them for yourself up close.

And of course the tourists think this is awesome because who wouldn't want to go see a landscape carving 10000 year old behemoth? I think its awesome, and I live here.

A couple weeks later, our local is back at the airport, picking up or dropping off, and he just happens to see a couple of the dudes again. Small airports, small town, coincidences happen alot.

So he asks, Hey guys, did you go see the glacier? did you have a good time?

And the tourist looks him in the face and says yeah our buddy died.

So this story has been living in the back of my head, basically since I heard it. Because I heard the news that another tourist had died but it's the recommendation from the local part that keeps repeating on me.

What happened was they had done as he said and rented some kayaks and found somebody to take them out and they had paddled up to the glacier, and one of them had decided to go touch an iceberg. But icebergs are a dynamic system that are constantly melting from the underside until they flip when the top side gets too heavy. And the Berg just happened to flip, when the guy was next to it and it took him down.

This is something that probably would have happened with or without the recommendation. But the idea that you can meet a stranger who is only in your home for a little bit and you tell them to go see this wonderful thing, only for them to die because they didn't grow up with the caution and respect that you did, upsets me. Because there is no way to instill that caution and respect in the span of a single conversation. I can say "Hey go check out the salmon run on the Kenai, because its amazing and beautiful and impressive" and then following it up with "And don't drown, or get lost, and if a bear wants your fish that fish belongs to the bear now" makes it seem like the experience isn't worth it.

So there are some perks to living in a tourist destination. There are a lot of detractors mostly that you cannot shoot the tourists because you rely on them for your income but you have a semi captive audience with no context for any of the bullshit you spew. You can tell these people anything and they will believe you, the trusted friendly local. Now this is a very much Spider-Man situation where Great Power begets Great Audacity and even worse Responsibility.

My buddy goes on a run and when hes done there is a bar near a creek. So he wades into the creek because the day is hot and the water is cold.

Tourists ask what hes up to, with his running stuff he didn't want wet piled on the shore and him very obviously cooling off in the water. He says he's fishing.

But now here is why I am telling you this story. The universe occasionally aligns in such a way that we get to really really fuck with people and their perception of said universe. The opportunities do not come often and when they come you must seize the day. This is what my buddy did.

So this Creek runs through town and as a result of the highway and neighborhoods and culverts and roads it does not have a great salmon run. It's a short Creek the headwaters are only a few miles from the ocean it never had a great salmon run to begin with. But there are salmon.

One such fish brushes past my buddy's leg. Immediately he knees the fish like he is juggling a soccer ball and pops it out of the water, then slaps it out of the air on to the shore.

This is dumb luck. He could not do this again if he spent years training. Noodling (catching fish with your hands) is a thing that is legal to do with salmon but it is so much harder than literally every other way to catch salmon, including grabbing them with a garbage can. What he just managed is the kind of thing that should make you want to grab the fish and swing it around your head like a stripper with her panties off.

But,

He has an audience.

This is the opportunity offered by the universe.

He plays it cool.

He puts on dead pan straight face on and wades up to shore to grab his fish and nod to the tourists. Someone asks something and he assures them this is the standard way to get a quick dinner here. The tour guide has caught up with his group. He looks at my buddy and his fish and the general lack of fishing accoutrement. Without missing a beat, the guide backs up every ounce of bullshit out of my buddys mouth because if there is one true fraternity it is locals bullshitting stupid tourists.

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever posted anything related to these characters on here before? May need to go grab some of the older stuff for context. Either way, this is certainly a way to revive this dusty blog. You can thank every social media platform going through a wood chipper recently for that, I suppose.

These are two characters from a very long-standing DnD campaign. The one on the right is my own character, Verity Lapida Solaria, and the one on the left is @midnightwind's Nikolai Zepar. Assuming she sees this and deems it worthy of a reblog, I suppose her followers will now finally be able to see Nik's girlfriend in all of her glory, at least however much glory she can have while standing around in her pajamas.

This particular work features Nik copying spells into his ritual book from a recently acquired spell book. You probably couldn't tell that because I neglected to put anything inside either the book or the sheet of paper he was working on, probably because I would have made it glowy and wanted to do it after I had gone through and done the lighting and shading stuff, but I couldn't really bring myself to do anymore by the time I had done so.

The lighting and shading was particularly fun and insanity-inducing to do. I also ended up getting through it all without realizing my monitor was on its night mode setting the entire time, which minimized brightness. So uh, it'll probably be a bit weird for anyone viewing this on normal monitor settings. Oopsie.

Lighting is always a fun headache when it comes to Verity, because depending on what she's doing and how she's feeling, her hair can be a small light source (as it is in this image), or her entire body can just ignore the ambient lighting and appear as though it were the middle of the day, without actually giving off any light to affect objects around her. As you can imagine, these were qualities that I thought of while writing for her, not drawing her. Both are long stories that shall be saved for another time.

I won't claim to be particularly good at the whole light and shadows thing, but there's just something about pictures that depict a mostly dark scene with just a few small sources of light standing out that really appeals to me. It's a great vibe.

Anyway, back to the subject of the image itself, copying spells in DnD takes a very long time, something like one hour per spell-level. I like to think the process involves a lot of frustration as you have to get every little detail right and it's easy to mess up and have to start over. Nik spent a whole day copying spells over, so I imagine Verity coming back from whatever activities she got up to see Nik still working on this despite it being night time at this point. Nik is being a big grump (as usual), so Verity suggests taking a break.

This isn't an interaction that happened in-session, so there are a myriad ways the exchange might go down. Many of the ones I thought of involved Verity snuffing the candle by holding her breath (another long story), only for Nik to dryly point out that she'll have to breathe eventually, or that he can see in the dark, or that Verity herself gives off enough light for him to continue working, etc. etc. Another funny idea I had was a full on comic that I was never going to draw of Verity snuffing the candle, a panel of Nik's slightly glowy eyes turning to look at and squint at her, maybe a beat panel, and then the final panel of the light turning back on to Nik making out with her on the bed in the background that I didn't want to draw.

All of these options amuse me equally, so I decided to leave the image without any specific dialogue to serve as a fun little ignition for my own imagination.

As one final aside, I can't help but notice that the pictures I draw from this campaign rarely depict any moments of great importance. There's a few scenes that were great emotional moments, but most of the time I find myself gravitating towards drawing scenes like this that just show these two characters interacting in relatively mundane ways.

As you can see, I can't help but include a long rant about my creative process whenever posting my work to this site specifically. I'll cut this one here, but I'll go through my old stuff and (re)post it here with proper tags and talk more about Verity and Nik throughout that whole process. I can tell you exactly what this is like from experience. I can tell you how insanely painful it is to find yourself cut off from oxygen (something that this nitrogen concept was theoretically supposed to make you not feel, not be aware of in that sense), the acute searing agony of your chest on fire combined with every muscle in your body contracting involuntarily over and over (leaving you more sore than the most intense workout of your life, should you survive it). I can tell you just how horrifyingly long your suffering can be drawn out if, for example, the unlicensed corrections worker killing you fucks up applying the mask so you're still getting some oxygen here and there. in that situation, it could take HOURS of convulsing and burning pain, during which TRUST ME you are internally BEGGING for it to just end and so far past caring if you live or die, before your body actually finally gives up. if it was me, I'd be gulping down that nitrogen as much as possible to make it quick, because the alternative is excruciating beyond what words can convey.

CNN states that "experts have said [this method of execution] could lead to excessive pain or even torture." I'm here to tell you this is 100% unavoidably true. Having also had firsthand experience with torture, including (as I've mentioned on here previously) the infamous technique of waterboarding, I can very easily tell you this is torture in every sense of the word, without a doubt.

this CANNOT be something we as a society tolerate, let alone approve of. ESPECIALLY not as punishment for a single-offense kill-for-hire case where the person being executed isn't even the one who wanted someone killed. I simply don't think taking money to kill a stranger is quite as bad as paying someone to kill your spouse, imho. if anyone can be rehabilitated in this situation, is it not more likely the one who took the money and regretted it forever, rather than the one who made the choice to order his own wife's murder?

I struggle to believe that this man couldn't have been rehabilitated. in fact, it sounds rather like he was, from his most recent interviews and what people around him have said. seems to me he expressed deep remorse and had even been forgiven by the victim's family. "All three of the people involved in this case years ago, we have forgiven," said Mike Sennett.

I was following the Alabama one closely and have a lot to say about this. they didn't just use nitrogen asphyxia either, they did this to a prisoner whose first execution had failed, leaving him traumatized by it. the whole thing went down as horrifically as you'd think, too. I do not want to dive into this at the moment, but as someone who's been briefly without a heartbeat before, I can tell you exactly what every minute was like for him based on the eyewitness accounts. there are few less humane manners in which to execute someone that come easily to mind.

Hello friends! I'm having a super busy week (which is really unusual in this period of my life), so I had no time for new words. Which means, different kind of post.

I need to keep working on my COBB because I really want to have a regular posting schedule, but I have to avoid feeling stuck with it. I'm a WIP hopper, I need to follow inspiration and start new projects all the time, so feeling like I have to work on ONE fic and nothing else kills my creativity. So, I want to continue one of my other WIPs. But I have too many shorter projects that are equally close to being finished (which means... 25 to 50% drafted), so I'm asking for help to choose one to continue.

It's possible I'll ignore your suggestions in the end, but help me choose anyway! (Usually receiving suggestions when I can't decide between some options makes me realise that deep down I had already chosen, and I just needed someone to suggest another option to feel disappointed and be like ok but actually I wanted to do that other thing—)

1. pirate blouse

I started this fic to reply to an ask after one of those prompt things I reblog sometimes. It's half written, I think.

Plot: Simon is a stressed TA and Baz shows up to his class in a... provoking outfit. Simon loses it.

Quote: Nobody's paying attention to their insane TA going off on one of their mates. Good. I don't need a complaint for assault to drive my doctorate even farther away from my grasp.

I just need Grimm-Pitch to leave my classroom and come back wearing proper trousers before my overworked brain cells decide to go on permanent strike. (I'm not sure they haven't deserted me already.)

2. holiday

I haven't written much of this one, but I have the whole thing in mind. Just need to find a way to turn my ideas into words.

Plot: Friends to lovers. Simon goes on holiday with the Grimms. He and Baz have to share a bed in the same room as Malcolm and Daphne.

3. pine baz

I wrote half of this fic in a couple of hours and then didn't touch it for almost 2 months. Now that I've reread it I really want to continue it.

Plot: Baz is a dryad. Simon's a woodcutter. Imagine the rest.

➳ lucifer doesn’t even know what the WAP is. you expect him to be caught up on trends? he's not. at all. man is a luddite in its finest form </3. he knows you’re doing something dumb though but also knows he'll have very little luck stopping the two of you, as you and diavolo together are pushing the limits of what he can handle. you extend the offer to teach him too, and he declines, a barely covered grimace crossing his face as he listeners to the lyrics of the song. he has to force himself to babysit watch the two of you because who knows what could end up online if he wasn’t.

➳ mammon is #betrayed. he thought the WAP was your and his’ thing! no, but for real, he wants to be part of it and make sure you and diavolo don’t get too close, so he inserts himself into the lesson, claiming he’ll be the best at it. “i don’t get it!” he whines, trying to copy your movements. diavolo, who picked it up pretty easily, laughs. “again!” mammon demands, and you show him the dance, trying your best to follow along. it's a little bit sad, so you take pity on him, calling it quits for the day, but not before promising diavolo that once you see him again you can record yourselves.

➳ levi thinks this is about the funniest shit he’s ever seen. with no hesitance, he’s plopping himself down to take a seat and watch while you lead diavolo through the movements. neither of you mind, really, so it turns into levi being a coach from the floor, offering tips and critique. while the music isn’t a style he normally listens to, he’ll admit it’s catchy and that it’s probably going to be stuck in his head for the foreseeable future. getting a great idea, levi sneakily records the two of you, resolving to turn it into an edit, a compilation, something, as this footage is too gold to miss.

➳ satan sighs, nose wrinkling as he watches the two of you complete the dance with only minor mistakes and high five afterward, both beaming. the song is terrible, and the dance is even worse yet he sort of enjoys it, knowing at least lucifer will hate it more than he does. he get’s lost in watching you teach, so much so he misses diavolo asking him a question. “yes?” he eventually replies, and when you cheer it becomes clear he just agreed to learn how to do the dance. whatever. it’s not seeming as bad as it was earlier.

➳ asmo is the WAP king, okay? he can’t believe you decided to teach diavolo, but not him. “but asmo, you already know how to do it.” damn right he does. he pouts and sulks, but eventually, diavolo suggests filming a tiktok video with all three of you in it and it’s like his previous sour mood has vanished. asmo makes you film it quite a few times, waiting until he’s fully satisfied with not just hos, but all of your performances, but it’s worth it, because the three of you get insane numbers on the video, achieving tiktok stardom overnight. somehow, that leads to the three of you running a popular account that asmo is insanely proud of.

➳ beel think’s its really cool that you not only know how to do the WAP dance, but that you’re good enough to teach it. he also thinks it's really cool diavolo is willing to learn. “can i try?” he asks after he’s watched the two fo you run through it a few times. you agree, not really expecting much, but are blown away by how well beel does. “it’s just observation and knowing how to move my body,” he says sheepishly, a bit red from all the praise being lobbied his way. he politely declines to be in a video with you and diavolo, much to both of your disappointments.

➳ belphie seriously can’t believe his eyes. if he’s dreaming, then this is one fucked up dream. not only do you both look dumb, but you’re also teaching diavolo out in the open where anyone can see. yet neither of you look the least bit embarrassed, even though you’re being insanely cringey, and he feels like he has to fix that. problem is, he doesn’t know how and ends up lingering too long, meaning he gets noticed. “come join us!” you plead, and it’s hard to say no, but then diavolo speaks up and it becomes a lot easier. once he leaves he spends the next day and a half stalking your social media to check if you’ve put out a video. not because he’s curious to how it turned out, mind you, he just wants to make fun of it first.
