You have to understand that the reason why Nine is my favorite doctor is not because he is grizzled or edgy or a bad boy- it is because he is, fundamentally, kind. He is full of hope and optimism and compassion and he tries to convince himself that he is wrong to do so because the world tries to convince him otherwise (Jabe's death, Dalek, Adam, the Time War, the Slitheen, etc.) And yet at every opportunity he is given he is in awe of the majesty of the universe and the wonder of human kindness and Rose is important because she reinforces this over and over, her ferocious humanity, her relentless empathy, her flirty teasing, her incredible warmth, the fact that she reaches out to a Dalek with kindness.

And it's not just Rose, either- there is Jack and Cathica and Jabe and Lynda with a Y and Harriet Jones and even Mickey and Jackie, they are all so incredible, so flawed and complicated and wonderful and Fantastic.

I love Nine because he is hopeful and kind and a coward, not a killer, any day. I love Nine because of the absolute sheer, healing joy we see as he gets to shout "Just this once, Rose. Just this once. Everybody lives!"

I love Nine because, at his core, he is the Doctor. He is a healer. He is angry and traumatized and carrying the weight of the universe but most of all, his heart, damaged and broken and so full of love for the universe and humanity and one girl in particular that he welcomed the time vortex into himself without a single regret. He regenerated not with tragedy or regret, but with pride and optimism.

I love Nine because "You were fantastic, Rose. And you know what? So was I."

This will be my last post about this. I’m honestly not trying to argue with you, but I offer a different perspective. I admit my use of the word token was wrong. However, my message is the same. You were the one using Ncuti’s nomination as an example of no racism. I’m simply saying no, it’s not.

To begin with, Ncuti should not have been brought into the discussion. His nomination should have no bearing on Jacob being nominated. It allows the nomination committee to do exactly what you did. See, there’s no racism. We nominated a Black person. Why are you cheering because one Black performer was nominated in a category or because Black performers were nominated at all? That is invalidating. If more than one Black actor in a category deserves to be nominated, do it. You can objectively say they both didn’t deserve it, but don’t use one as an example of anti-racism. That is what makes it tokenism.

No, I wasn't using "only" Ncuti's nomination as an "example".

I pointed out that there were many more nominations.

These were my words on the post that triggered this:

Maybe I should have made clear that I see the whole list as nominations, and maybe you should have made clear in the first ask that you only meant the first category. We could have gone over this a bit more nuanced then, but my question remains the same: while I get why you are disappointed, and I get the stance of "only one" black person... why do you devalue Ncuti's nomination like that?

I am not "cheering" because a black actor was nominated, I was cheering because Ncuti does a great job with the Doctor, and because I was happy for him. (Also I didn't even "cheer", lol, I just pointed out.)

Hiroyuki Sanada also did an amazing job on Shõgun.

Award shows have limited lists. For Critic's Choice it seems to be six slots.

They - not me! - nominated the ones they thought deserved it. You obviously see that differently, and so do I (!).

And can I just say, I have seen all except "The Diplomat", and while "The Old Man" was... interesting, and while I love Jeff Bridges - I would have given his slot to Jacob. Like, immediately.

But all the shows and actors on that list did incredible performances.

I would not want to be the one to choose.

You say I used "one as an example for anti-racism" - that isn't true either. I commented on the things I have seen on here, on twitter, on IG of people yelling at AMC that Jacob, Assad and Delainey are not nominated - but "the white man is" (their words, not mine) - on an ask that was commenting on the same. I'm sure you've seen posts on this. That is what I meant by "screaming". The rest... came when you came in upset about another's ask. Again, which I can understand. And I get the bitterness about the missing nomination, too. But please don't try to shift the blame on this to me, or try to put words into my mouth.

Anons I can only react to, and I am the only one putting my proverbial face to it (and I did note you did not come off anon once more...) - if you use things yourself like "token black" then that is reacted to in the context I have, which is... anonymous.

Of course awards shows and nominations have a long tradition of bias. Maybe that even played into it all here as well. But a lot of people conflated the issue to the seemingly obvious answer of "it must be racism", invalidating Sam's work in the process (as well), and then a lot jumped on the chance to hate on him.

And I have watched that, unfortunately unsurprised.

Next season, I fear it will be "they pushed the black actor back in favor of the white one" discourse, because that shift will come. It's in the books, they are doing the books. Jason Todd's timeline and "Age"

So, there's a lot of discussion of Jason Todd's age esp as relative to other sidekick vigilantes, particularly Tim and Mia. I believe the exact words are usually something about a "grown ass man beating up/trying to kill teenagers."

DISCLAIMER: This particular post is specifically regarding the "grown ass man vs teenagers" statement, I have posts regarding the "tried to kill them" portion and other stuff like "seriously Jason Todd is like being shot by a marshmallow gun compared to what goes on directly before and after him in these incidents, also you don't bitch about the right stuff, also a lot of you prop up characters who are Objectively Worse, and no that's not hate on your fave it's just me calling out hypocrisy". It just takes time to find digital copies of the panels I'm using. NOTE I AM NOT JUSTIFYING HIS ACTIONS. I'm just saying y'all blow it out of proportion for petty character hate. Like, shit, they're superheroes. Jason's soooo fuckin' tame. He's not even framed as a big deal to the teens it's only the adults that think it's that much of a problem.

Now, to start off, we all know Jason died at 15 & a few months off from 16 (if you want me to dig up panels, sure, but I figured at this point that wasn't in question). Tim at this point is somewhere between 12-13, and we have this panel in Lonely Place of Dying which takes place a few months later:

So that's a ballpark of 2-3 years between Jason and Tim.

But Tim's age is really fucky and they keep de-aging him tbh. We can extrapolate that his confrontation with Jason was between the ages of 16-17 bcs it's after the arc where he has his incredibly shitty 16th birthday in Robin Vol2 #116 and before Red Robin where he's stated to be 17. This would put Jason between 18-19 at the time. (If you really want me to find panel sources for Tim's birthday and his age in RR then, sure, but I don't think they're necessary. I used it more as a guidepost for Jason's age, since we have a clear idea of what the age gap is.)

At least, on paper.

Mia for her part I've had a hard time finding like, on panel mentions of her age and if anyone can direct me to it being explicitly stated I'd love that. I'm rereading old comics but it's a LOT of comics to hunt down & dig through. To my understanding she was fifteen when Ollie first met her, and there's at Minimum of about a year and a half between that to her meeting Red Hood, more likely at least two? because there's at least few months between that and her joining the Titans, the Doctor Light stuff, then One Year Later, and then returned to Star some 3 months after Ollie came back to run for mayor? And then Jason not too long after. So, two years feels safe. Puts her at 17-ish, Jason at 19-20

Once again, I specify: on paper.

People would happily point out at this point that the upward stretch of a 4 year age gap is a "huge gap in maturity." And yeah, under normal circumstances, I'd agree.

But, and this is going to get contradictory bcs I found Two different timelines (BOTH written by Winick, lmao), and depending on how you read it it could be up to three different possibilities. Let's Start with Batman Annual #25: Daedalus & Icarus.

Timestamp before Jason's resurrection, which is pretty well known at this point:

Next, him waking up from a coma afterwards, when he escapes the hospital:

Now the above could be interpreted as either 1 year after he died if we're assuming that it's using the same "start" point to count as the resurrection (unlikely), or one year after he came back (more likely).

Next, the timestamp right before a guy recognizes him and sells him out:

And, finally, the timestamp before being put in the Pit:

That is, count it up, between 3-3 1/2 years where Jason was dead, in a coma, or otherwise not particularly... cognizant of the world around him. His ass is NOT developing emotionally, socially, or mentally like this, which pretty handily bridges the gaps there. Taken at face value, Jason's maturity level is going to be, unironically, younger than Tim's in the wake of these setbacks.

Now, if we go to Lost Days issue 1, it doesn't specify how long he was dead, nor how long he was in a coma, so we'll just carry those two over, what we DO have is this from just after Talia brought him home:

This puts him as being on the streets for five months, so we're at just shy of two years so far. And then we have this:

Which is right before Talia puts him in the Pit.

So, in summary: 6 months dead, 1 year coma, 5 months on the street, and something like 1-1 1/2 years with the League which...

Actually puts us on almost the exact same timeframe either way. 3 to 3 1/2 years. It just changes whether Jason was on the streets or with the League for longer.

And is utterly incomprehensible because comic timelines are a freaking nightmare.

If we're being generous, then that would put Jason at a minimum of 19, maybe toeing the line of 20 for UTRH, again, on paper, because like hell are you convincing me he did less than a year's worth of training abroad throughout Lost Days. Yeah maybe they trained him in fighting while he was catatonic, muscle memory and all that. But the other teachers that we KNOW of? The bombs, guns, probably something to get him up to date on handling all that tech we see him using, Egon, potentially arguably All-Caste if you want to draw from n52...

but you'd have to knock at least a year and a half off of his internal/personal development from death & coma, at minimum. Maybe you could argue he was somewhat developing while in his "the lights are on, but nobody's home" phase, you can't say it's at the same level as a normal person might when going about their day to day life, and it's difficult to measure. But he's not hitting the kind of milestones that he should be for his age. I wouldn't put him at anything less than two years behind. So if we use our upper estimates on Jason, and lower estimates on both the developmental setbacks and Tim/Mia's ages that gives us:

Jason toeing 20, mentally 18, fighting Tim at 16. 2 year gap, kind of stretching the physical age gap if we assume Tim had just barely turned 13 when he showed up to be Robin. - OR LESS

Jason maybe 21, mentally 19, fighting Mia at 17, two year age gap again. Honestly, still not that big of a difference - OR LESS

And, to be frank, that's not even counting the mental development issues that come from the intense physical trauma from dying - and I swear to fuck don't give me the "He's not the only one who died he's not special" speech.

HOW MANY OF THE OTHERS YOU'RE USING AS A GOTCHA LOST, *GESTURING AGGRESSIVELY ABOVE*, LITERALLY MULTIPLE YEARS OF THEIR LIFE.

Not counting adults, of course. Barry lost years, Hal lost years, Ollie I think also lost a couple years? but A) they came back still adults, bodies pretty much the same. B) While Jason's body didn't go through a magic growth spurt in canon, it did still grow esp while with the League.

I'll eventually get around to Titan's Tower & GA#72 (tbh, there are other people who've already done Titan's Tower and it'd probably be better than what I do, so I'm more going to focus on the latter, but there IS a specific part of the former that drives me nuts that I don't see brought up a lot), and maybe if we're feeling spicy all my issues with UTRH starting with how Winick is just as guilty of retroactively writing Jason as being inherently a bad penny since his Robin days as any of the other "modern" writers. Like, bud, Severe enough Head Trauma is legitimately enough to change someone's personality, not to mention trauma. It wouldn't hurt your narrative for that eerie difference, the Shade of What Once Was if you're really going for RH being Like that.

“Dr Y/l/n, may I speak with you for a moment.” He seemed cocky and looked between James and I. I decided to coddle his intentions and agreed. He directed me a few feet a way. James watched my retreating form and kept an eye on the conversation, not liking the look in Chase’s eye.

“I just wanted to say, y/n, that I have also from time to time indulged in the pleasurable acts you described to House.” He flirtingly stated, his voice a low whisper. He placed his hand on the wall next to us and used it as leverage to lean in.

“I see.” I could barely contain my giggle at where I suspected the line of questioning was going.

I love the Agatha Christie question!

Who are your HP/Twilight faves in the Christie universe? (Who’s the opportunist who knows too much and dies for it? Who’s the conman killer who courts the girl to avoid suspicion? Who’s just trying to take a holiday and gets caught-up in a murder? Who are the dynamic mystery-solving duo who realize they are in love by the end of the novel? etc.).

I mean, that is kind of what The Man Who Would Be King (and secret fic) (both cowritten with @theoriginalcarnivorousmuffin) have already become. We have our murder victim, Alphard, a very rich man with a colorful family, and possibly his sister, we have our unlikely detectives in Voldemort, Lily Potter, and Alphard himself. It may not be the center of the story but it's a large part of it.

In other words my answer for Harry Potter would somehow spoil all my present and future fics so I won't.

As for the Twilight version...

I vote we do it wealthy dysfunctional family style, it's most natural.

A patriarch is poisoned

Carlisle Cullen, a very wealthy man with powerful enemies, nonetheless dear to those around him and blessed with more friends than most, is found dead in his office one morning. Cause of death? Murder.

The police, caught on the detail that Dr. Cullen was a vampire and vampires are real, what the fuck is this on the doctor's autopsy table and is he going to wake up again and drink all our blood?, are little use in the investigation. Scotland Yard is soon brought in, and using Chief Swan's connections with the family they get a better picture of Dr. Cullen's life.

His family wasn't looking to inherit him anytime soon, as he was immortal. None of them were having money troubles however, all were independently wealthy.

He had made enemies of a thousand-year-old clan of powerful vampires, who on hearing that his murder is being investigated like this get very upset. Supposedly the victim lived with them in his youth (and inspector Craddock cries when he learns the timeline for this murder goes back to the 1600s. Are they going to have to bring historians in on this murder??), he might have known something

Oh what's that? The victim had a whole network of friends across the globe, who are all killers, and he knew everyone's secrets? ... do we have the budget to investigate this?

The victim was also living next to a tribe of magical shapeshifting wolves evolved specifically to kill his kind. They liked him best and had a line in their treaty that "he dies last". Not sure what to do with this information

Rosalie Hale missing person case from 1933 solved: Carlisle Cullen adopted her. Was she recognised, did someone piece it together, and was Carlisle killed in retribution?

The victim lived a fake life of fake papers. Could be important, except it's the most normal thing about this case.

The police wonder how this man didn't get murdered sooner, and are stretched so thin the investigation is going slowly.

So, Renesmee gets to be our plucky detective du jour, as she decides to see if she can help. Surely there is no harm in her poking around, and she's well liked around the vampire world so there might be answers she can get that human police can't, partly because policemen keep getting eaten.

She slowly narrows it down to the horrible realization that it was someone in the family, and she learns terrible things.

Jasper Hale wasn't Jasper Hale at all! He was a friend of Jasper's in the newborn army who wanted a new life, and who in the wake of Jasper's suden and unexpected death assumed his identity. He had Peter bite his entire face so he'd be scarred like Jasper had been, and vouch for this blond vampire most definitely being Jasper Hale. Peter later had to die because he Knew Too Much, and so did Charlotte, regrettably. Fake Jasper did however not kill Carlisle.

Edward seems a prime suspect, he is an angry and resentful young man who acts out. Everyone thinks he did it, and that Bella should certainly marry Jacob, the safer option. Much upheaval is had, however, once Renesmee is able to clear Edward's name and he meaningfully links arms with Bella. They sail off into the sunset with their inheritance.

Rosalie is a beautiful, cold, intimidating woman, the femme fatale sort who's surely conniving. It's a bit of a mystery why she married that poor fool Emmett, but it's clear to all she doesn't love him. No clear motive from her, other than the money she would inherit, but she's just so suspicious. Her alibi is ambiguous, she claims she was with Esme and Emmett but what if Esme and Emmett are lying to protect their daughter and wife? Superintendent Battle wonders about that.

Renesmee is at a loss.

And then she realizes that it's not Rosalie who acts like she doesn't love Emmett, it's Emmett who acts like he doesn't love her! And Esme's grieving widow act is just that, it's an act!

Renesmee realizes that Emmett and Esme are lovers, and killed Carlisle together. Esme committed it while Emmett tricked Rosalie into giving her an alibi. Renesmee realizes this once she has a "But Rosalie couldn't have seen Esme from that angle!" moment.

The plan was too pin Rosalie for the murder, see her hanged, and then in due time the mourning widowers would marry, happily entitled to all the money they couldn't have touched if they'd divorced. Also Rosalie was Catholic so she wouldn't have agreed to a divorce.

The two lovers are confronted, and Esme pulls out a tiny pearl-studded gun from her shoe, says "We tried, my love. I regret nothing" before shooting first Emmett, then herself.

It's really difficult to completely make him hard. It's hard to bring him over the edge and have him begging. He's completely a top, and a really rough one at that. Submission is more attractive to him than being dominated, though he does admire the inner fierceness in his partner when they attempt to top.

He also eats out really well but he almost never does it unless he feels you REALLY deserve it. He personally just doesn't like doing it but will very rarely make an exception.

Aftercare? Never heard of her. If he thinks he has time to spare or if you quite literally can't properly move after that, he'll scoff and then carry you somewhere where you can rest. He might even send for someone to bring you things to eat or to draw up a bath for you. It's rarely ever him though.

While this is true, he does run constant medical tests to ensure that you're nice and healthy. Biweekly blood tests, makes sure you take your required meds and vitamins, all that good stuff. This is the only factor that would, in essence, make him a caretaker dom. But only barely.

So my first favorite pairing are Miss Brat and Professor Dickhead from Take me Home Tonight, hands down!!! They are so perfect together, Satoru is just sweet and devoted and they're both SO smart and funny. That story is probably my favorite when it comes to lighthearted fare I've written. The MC and Gojo both have a past and obstacles but they from day one are a team. Mc in that is such a baddie and she really holds her own. Their competitive dynamic is so fun. My lawyer coupleee 🥹

My next favorite are the Duke and Duchess from Silent Serenades!!! Oh gosh Duchess IS my fave MC, just Duke Gojo isnt lol. they are so complex and interesting. And they're far from perfect, take their trauma out on each other lol, act before thinking, and they overall feel the most REAL. Arranged marriages sucked and they are trying to build something true and opening their hearts, growing and changing. Forgiving each other. The Duchess with her emotional, messy nature and troubled upbringing is very much based on me in many ways (yeppp been through it) so it's also the MC the most like me. So I'm attached 🥺

The third is Fractured Desires yandere Gojo and Barbie' reader. He is a yandere sure but he is so interesting, he is devoted clearly lol but mostly their SEX scenes my LORD. I've maybe never written better smut. 🥵🥵🥵 Her willingness to be submissive and just not caring he's yandere bc she loves him is fkn amazing, and she's alwo so girly and fun vs his VERY serious nature. They also feel so real even if he's over the top.

Fourth is CEO Gojo and Assistant reader from Time after Time!! Though a cheesy rom com I wrote, they both have strong personalities and god their love!!! Esp in their wedding scene 😭😭😭 Writing that scene and their love confession still feels like the best one I've written. He's an ass and she kinda mean lol but I liked their banter so much, that was my first story and it as just learning gojo! But oof love their overall chemistry.

My only other long story is Doctor Gojo and intern reader from Healing Hearts! I really love him and her so far but they're so new I can't really rank em any higher yet! Doctor Gojo is so smart and he's a whole ass hoe lol but sweet. Intern reader seems also so smart and caring! I think they'll grow on us as I go 🫶🏻

9) Roberts!Master

He just doesn't compel me on a fun level, on the idea he's complex nor does he feel menacing. His main story just doesn't give him enough to work with. The lack of getting to really act makes it so hard to feel for him. And I haven't listened to his EU stuff yet so I don't have good wider vibes yet. But I just don’t get a lot to vibe with. Also why the slug, just why slug?

8) Decayed!Master

Love the theory but kind of boring in practice. Just didn't get super fun vibes from him, maybe just too restricted by the virtue of how his whole story is done.

7) Child Master

Only there for a short amount of time but like damn do I love this sinister little kid. Terrifying in the best way. The right kind of creepy. Very top Master in the way he messes up his own timeline. Yes we don’t get much to read here but i just feel so much more for this character over Roberts and The Decayed.

6) Simm!Master

Okay don't hate me, but I just don't think he's that good okay? Like not John Simm he can fuck it up but like i don’t think it’s written that well. He just makes me uncomfortable in a way that's not that fun to watch. I love very specific scenes but not enough of the time. Like I love the way he plays off ten in very specific scenes but so often he's being just so ~wacky/crazy~ it's no longer any fun. Yes the master is strange and extra but they aren’t like this out of control!! And the drums make his villainy less interesting. I hate this. The rest of The Masters get to be evil without this strange head screwy reason done by the big old time lords. But whatever, okay. And also why does he eat people? Why did we do that? And why does he have laser beam hands? Like I prefer when The Master’s villainy is more in doing things, not just being weird. So many questions!

5) Jacobi!Master [including EU]

I love him for being legitimately scary. Like maybe I've seen Simm take over planets but this guy would kill me while staring into my eyes with a truly coldly terrifying expression and I'd say thank you. Love that for us. He throws people out of TARDISES!! I mean even in his moment in the show the way he kills Chantho? Love it. Peak actually threatening Master.

4) Ainley!Master

Part of my rating this guy higher is just how long this Master lasted. Like Ainley, my king being The Master for so many Doctors. Also though a very versatile Master. In more kinds of TV stories than many Masters. Got a Doctor kill in there too good for him. Good at being over the top, has a good enough report with The Doctor to make watching them face off enjoyable. And him getting this way by stealing a body is downright awful and shows a deep cruelty in The Master I do quite enjoy. The Rani making fun of him for being obsessed with The Doctor? Love it. Being punched by The Brig? Awesome. He’s delightfully evil if not scary in the slightest after the whole body snatching. Also he becomes a cat person? The image is quite funny.

3) Dhawan!Master

Handles over the top erratic behavior in a better way then Simm. Because he doesn't EAT people. The dancing and convoluted plans work well. I don't like that he wears a Nazi uniform that feels out of character for the Master, they are way too regimented and a banal kind of evil filled with human hate and bile and vileness when The Master tends to find more enjoyment in bombast and intrigue of larger than life villains. But overall Dhawan just puts in so much life into the character it makes him often the best thing in a scene. Making the monologuing and talking at the audience of TTC worth getting through if you're not super invested in the whole big meta lore. I also like that he is definitely trying to die a little in series 12 and destroy himself in the special, like falling apart? interesting. Wish there was more connective tissue explicitly done between Missy & Dhawan!Master. Like sure you can work it out. But I still think Missy would want to destroy parts of Galifrey explicitly for The Doctor, angry because the time lords hurt their best friend vs. Dhawan being mad The Doctor is a part of him ya know? The Master and The Doctor have considered themselves inextricable from each other forever.(I have a whole AU story here but i'll skip that)

2) Delgado!Master

The OG has to be this close to the top! I love this guy, everyone. The way he and UNIT are like enemies in the most gentlemanly way possible. You buy that Delgado and Three were friends and I love that about them. The start of the "only i can kill The Doctor" idea that carries for many of the Masters. He wants to take over earth, sure but he also wants to pick fights with The Doctor. No he swears it's necessary for the plan he has to call The Doctor first. Dumbassess. Love that about them so much. He's also the most distinguished silly man ever. He always made me want more. People say he is overused, But it made those seasons feel kind of like a sitcom with an annoying neighbor who uses mind control. Also has a catch phrase! The way the brig is just so done with his shit, and like honestly UNIT kind of stops viewing him as a real threat lol.

1) Missy

I love her because she just wants her friend back. I love that she loves The Doctor. Sure she's still chaotic and out there making all kinds of evil for most of her run and thinks humans are funny and small, but she doesn't want to be cruel and cowardly anymore by the end. She wants to learn kindness. I think that's freaking beautiful. She will never really undue what she has done to planets full of people, but she isn't asking for their forgiveness, she just wants to stand with The Doctor. And that's so heartbreaking. She was going home to her friend, the long way round. Honestly I wish this had been the end of The Master's timeline. Sure she died, and was killed by her past. But that's okay, can they really have a happy ending? But she dies bravely! Without hope, without witness, without reward, she was The Doctor's friend. She stood up to her past self and to stand with The Doctor and she fell.

♡modified stretches/workouts are your best friend, it's actually very easy to do stretches without getting outta bed or even moving your blanket!!

♡open up your blinds!!!!!

♡ensures and similar brands w/ extra protein for days you absolutely can't get out of bed

♡can't shower? No problem. You can get bathing cloths at any pharmacy otc (you can purchase with an HSA card as well!) Just add water to the pack no soap or rinsing needed

♡any food is better than no food!!!

♡90 minute rice + tuna packs are good 5 minute meals w/ some substance. You can add any add ins you want(I add fried egg and avocado)

♡download the finch app!! It's super cute and like a self care tamagotchi

♡allow yourself the time to rest

♡have a self love/feel good Playlist ready

♡rewatch your fave childhood show/movie. Anything that's been longer than 5 years since you've seen it works best imo

I really enjoyed Mark Russell's Flintstones comic, which was pretty in-your-face satire, but still gave the characters some heart, so I'm willing to give his X-Factor a chance. That being said:

Gee, I'm sooooo glad we're back to pointlessly killing off D-List mutants after Krakoa did the work of putting everyone back on the table for writers to use, it's definitely my favorite part of the X-Books and not a creatively bankrupt waste or anything. I know people might say, "There's too many mutants," or "Who cares about Rusty Collins?" But despite there already being too many mutants for people to use, writers keep adding more (even this book has like three new characters), and every character is someone's favorite.

I don't even particularly like Rusty, he was one of those characters that never caught on for me. I thought his personality was bland, and even back when he was first introduced I thought being "just" a pyrokinetic was boring (at least characters like Pyro and Magma had some unique aspect to their "fire" powers). But damn, I feel so sorry for any Rusty fans out there, he was dead for decades, he was barely there in Krakoa, and now he gets killed off one issue into X-Factor. I still have some hope for Feral, though, given that some of the team is "clinging to life."

I don't know how much, if any of the characters history Russell is aware of. He at least knows that Rusty was part of the original X-Factor, so there's that. Too bad Rusty is dead again. I really don't know what Frenzy and Cecelia are doing on this team. I could believe it of Pyro, since he already served on Freedom Force, and was only too happy to attack his fellow mutants while on the government payroll. Still, I'd expect him to have a more realistic and cynical attitude about the new X-Factor, given that Freedom Force ended with him and Blob abandoned to die, and the US government not giving a shit. But then, that would require actually engaging with the character's history which neither Russell nor Duggan seemed interested in doing.

Pyro's new characterization seems to be "party idiot." I can't say I completely mind, Duggan's Pyro was at least a "fun" version of the character, but this is the second time now Pyro's been a cast member for an X-Book, is it too much to ask that a writer actually take him seriously? I don't even mean "make him a badass," I mean give us some actual crumbs of character development, even if he's still mostly comic relief. The dude died saving Senator Kelly after a long, lingering terminal illness, and no one wants to address that? Like, at all?

Good question, Pyro, what IS Cecelia doing there? She was always one of the more reluctant X-Men who was more interested in being a doctor, how was she talked into this? Also, Pyro, your last direct interaction with Cecelia was when you betrayed her and got her fired after she saved your life treating your bullet wounds, you've got a lot of nerve flirting with her. I am reluctantly accepting that Pyro is basically being written as "straight" now, given that the "gay Pyro" storyline was stolen out from under him by bland replacement Simon "No one asked for this fucking character to exist" Lasker. Deeply bitter that the Pyro who got to canonically fulfill our movie-verse Allerdrake fantasies wasn't even the right Pyro.

Speaking of which, it would actually be a very funny meta-joke if Pyro gets killed off and immediately replaced by Pyro II/Simon, but if that actually happens I will absolutely start biting people. I waited decades for my fave to come back, do NOT take him away again, Mark Russell.

Also wondering how Pyro got the second-in-command gig. Was it just a stupid decision by corporate guy who doesn't understand how the team should function, or is there something sinister going on, like Pyro is more willing to toe the corporate line? Also, shut up, Alex, Pyro was actually doing some good with the Marauders while you were on the "fucked-up remedial last-chance" Hellions team

Like I said, I am willing to give this book a chance, and see what Russell does with it, but he's already shown he's willing to throw characters into the meat-grinder. I don't mind satire and a good story, but I also actually LIKE the characters. I like Pyro and Cecelia and Frenzy, I'd rather not see them twisted into satirical versions of themselves or abruptly killed off. I'd like to see their histories actually dealt with instead of jokes about Frenzy once working as a dog breeder. Despite the meta-commentary in the first issue about "the characters are interchangable, it's all about the story," in long-running comic series like X-Men, a lot of us actually DO care about the characters. That's what keeps us reading. Have fun with your story, Russell, but please don't break the toys.

I'm sure there's much more to say here about the writing for Havok and Polaris, but I'll let other people handle that, I'm mostly here for Pyro.

Yae Miko is woman of mystery who never tells you what she wants outright and keeps her true feelings hidden most of the time, however the moment her little one calls her Mama while tending to some duties with Ei , she cries. At first she doesn’t believe what she hears and asks Ei if she heard it too only for her little one to say it again, this time louder and Yae can’t help but to rush over and scoop them up and shower them in kisses. To make the moment even more sweeter they call Ei “Obasan” or aunty. Now the archon is crying as well

She finds herself more intrigued than anything, wondering why such a small thing would be abandoned, so defenceless in a world so, so cruel. And by her door no less.

But she also knows that certain questions would never be answered, that it is a waste of time to ponder over something so meager. Instead, she focuses on tending to your basic needs and provides a home. Her home, for you.

You'd make a great devotee to the shrine, it's all she thinks at first.

And without realising it, a year or so goes by.

The Guuji doesn't sugar coat her words, but she also doesn't outwardly express her feelings. She's a skilled orator when it comes to pushing the conversation around as she pleases, the few who dare ask about her precious little one left with nothing but subtle hints to drop it.

But their profound affection also brings them -especially Ei- to frighten easily over the smallest things. You're a fragile being, after all, and they're not new to loss. If a god can die so easily in such a cruel world, what would it be of you?

This also means Yae silently worries over the fact that you still haven't spoken a world, despite growing at an incredible speed in the past two years. Is it a sign of physical and/or mental discomfort? Did she do something wrong, despite her best efforts on understanding deeper the human nature?

Miko lets you play with one of her Gohei's to entertain yourself, while both Ei and she voice their concerns to the Maidens. Some of them insist that kids grow and develop at different speeds, others remark that maybe grabbing a doctor would be best, just in case.

And never in the past five centuries the god and her pet had felt so distressed over someone they'd known for such a short period of time.

What is a couple years to endless beings such as them? What is two years to you? Too much? Not enough?-

It's wonky, mostly wrong, completely inaccurate and chaotic.

But her vision fogs up at how content and eager you are doing your little thing.

Ei lays a hand on Miko's shoulder, the other covering her mouth. The two share a quick look, then gaze back to your figure, utterly mesmerised.

"It good?" You pant, tired from the amount of effort you'd put into the performance. And the second after you're off the ground, in Yae's arms, as she covers your cheeks with affectionate kisses, Ei stroking your head with incredible delicacy.

Both smiling, uncaring of those around them. As the only thing that matters is you.

Quick question cause I'm curious: do you have any alternative career au's for Buddie? Like, not even for a specific fic (but if you have a fic idea, I'd love to hear that too!!) but more like, if they weren't firefighters, what jobs do you think buddie would have?

and yes I have actually thought about this a lot!!! I don't know if I'll ever write a fic for it because au's aren't really my strong area (I get too caught up in the details/worldbuilding tbh) but okay based on their canon backgrounds/personalites – I don't know if this is really the answer you're looking for but it's the one in my heart :)

eddie we know grew up relatively well-off (middle or upper middle class) in a biggish city in a historically very blue part of texas. not to make it Political on today of all days but it does definitely influence you to grow up in a blue part of a red state! and I think to be honest he probably did not really put a ton of thought into what he wanted to Be When He Grew Up but just based on his background, I think he was probably in high school assuming he would eventually end up at like UT Austin or something, where he'd spend 4 years partying and half-assed studying until he skated through a degree in like. business or marketing or communications or something, and then he would have had a desk job for 5-10 years until he burned out and realized he hated it, and then would have had his Moment of like okay what do I ACTUALLY want from my life, which maybe would have also involved him reckoning with his queer identity but would have ultimately led him to EMT or Paramedic school in his late 20s or early 30s, and he would have found his way to firefighting as a career changer. basically I think his identity is less tied up in the job than buck's, but I think it's ultimately the right thing for him because he's a Healer but ultimately wanting something more hands on than being a doctor

and then there's buck who grew up probably upper middle class? in a fairly conservative surburb, and we know he did Not get along with his parents for obvious reasons. he tried community college and dropped out, not because he wasn't smart enough to do it but because he was restless and impulsive and didn't want to be there. he traveled for a while and hopped around jobs and I do think he belongs where he landed, but if we're trying to be less boring and just say :) they'd be the same <3 I could also see him doing well in something like teaching (which I know is cliche, but he would be every kid's favorite teacher and would get made fun of by 12 year olds for his Lame Clothes). or this one is kind of out there but I also think he would be earth's most dedicated and enthusiastic beekeeper or worm farmer or something, like I don't think he would have had the patience to get a whole degree in entomology but I think he would absolutely crush at a commercial/wholesale farming supply store/nursery where his job was just to breed and take care of some kind of weird bug that is needed by the Southern California Vegetable Farmers to make sure their crops turn out. buck buckley, helping to feed america with his bug business 💪

"she's everything that's wrong with moffat's writing of women? she's actually dependant and praises the doctor and never makes a decision for herself? never questions the doctor? that's not ok" Genuinely how do you get this from River? She isn't dependent on him? She has her own life and adventures and even other partners - some who she's very fond of, she breaks his rules all the time, using force and weapons not caring about his opinions, she makes plenty of decisions for herself? She above anyone knows how wrong he is and questions him because he's the reason she lost her parents? "If you carry on the way you are, what might your name come to be?" How... like... how? If you're going by "We do what the Doctor's friends always do, as we're told." She's doing that because she's well aware of the situation and knows how it plays out, she's the killer. It's not because she doesn't question him. She loves him but she also, crucially, doesn't always have faith in him and doesn't hide it. Moffat has undeniably flawed writing (as all the showrunners do not just him) but I do not get how people still think he can't write women and then just, omit very key parts of his female characters.

I used to think she was badass too. She's still one of my faves (why, though, I couldn't tell you, because her flaws aren't really endearing like those of RTD female characters. Maybe I just like Alex's portrayal of her), but I'm still aware that she's badly written. Cause she is.

It's no secret Moffat only has boobies in mind when he writes women. I mean he literally chose Karen instead of some other actress for Amy because Karen was hot and the other was, albeit talented, "wee and dumpy" to a shame apparently. In the "Girl In The Fireplace"'s script, he fixates on Madame de Pompadour's breasts and, like, body in general.

It's true she's had multiple partners, yes. 240, 270, was it? A bit excessive, don't you think? It's like we're trying to compensate for something. We also never get those adventures on screen. It's only shown in Big Finish audio books, which, to my knowledge, Moffat didn't write any of the River Song adventures.

You can't take ONE lign from the whole of her 15 episodes on screen and think it'll prove anything, alright? If anything it proves the contrary: her inconsistency. From one episode to the next, her behavior can change for no reason. She's not a cute character but for some reason sometimes she is. She's not a wise character, but for some reason sometimes she is. The list goes on.

"she doesn't always have faith in him and doesn't hide it" girl, where? She disobeys only when he tries to sacrifice himself. She generally always believes he's right just because he's the Doctor (but suddenly he's wrong just because he thinks he needs to die).

She was ready to let the whole universe die after meeting him only once, where's the supposed badassery in that? It's basic children fairytale pining.

Anyways I hope you don't take all this conversation too seriously cause it's just a show. I could go on but I've got stuff to do. It's ok to like River, I do, and I hope you didn't feel like I was threatening your opinion or anything. Bye :)
