Now seems like a good time to introduce a strategy to all my ADHD peers that I've invented so I wouldn't be Late to everything!
It's called...
✨️ Disaster Time ✨️
You know that feeling when you wait til the last second to do something and THEN it seems like THAT'S when everything goes wrong??? Right when you need everything to go smoothly?
You're thinking "the office is only 10 minutes away, so I'll leave 10 minutes before my appointment time!" And THAT'S when it happens; You forget to brush your hair, you can't find your keys, your wallet is missing, your GPS is glitchy, there's traffic, there's a detour, you hit every red light, there's no parking, you enter the wrong door, you can't find the room, etc. There's always SOMETHING.
I used to get SO MAD when everything would go wrong while I was on a time crunch. It seemed like when I least expected it, suddenly every object that could possibly get in my way would get in my way. I used to think, "The universe is out to get me 😔 No matter what I do, everything is gonna go wrong."
And that's when a switch went off in my mind...
Tumblr media
Everything is gonna go wrong when I least expect it to!!!
Therefore -> I should stop being surprised and just. Expect it to!!
Every time!
Hence, the invention of ✨️Disaster Time✨️
Disaster Time (noun) the extra time you alot for disasters.
If you just KNOW something's gonna go wrong and then just PLAN for something to go wrong! Then you'll always be ready for it!
Because something is always is gonna happen, right? Something is always gonna go wrong. You don't know what's gonna go wrong, so instead of hoping nothing goes wrong and then being disappointed when something does go wrong, just alot some Disaster Time!
So you think to yourself "the office is only 10 minutes away, so if I give myself 10 extra minutes of Disaster Time for when The Disaster happens, then I'll leave 20 minutes before my appointment time."
Your assignment's due at midnight? Disaster Time! Make it due at 11:40 to account for when the [internet goes out / file gets corrupt / website doesn't load / grammar errors pop up ]
Your hangout is at 8pm? Disaster Time! Give yourself 10 extra minutes to [find your missing phone / stop and grab some gas / brush your hair / quickly eat a snack]
Work at 9? Disaster time! Leave 15 minutes earlier for when [you spill coffee on your shirt / your car light goes off / you forgot something and have to go back]
People used to tell me to do things "early" but I have adhd and time blindness! "Early" doesn't exist!!! "Early" is an abstract concept! And "early" isn't as motivating as "The Last Second"
So instead, alot a set amount of Disaster Time and adjust your "last second" to account for that pesky inevitable Disaster, and you'll always be on time!
If you EXPECT that everything will go wrong EVERY time and just *account* for that when you plan, then you'll always be on time!

and I think child modelling should be illegal I'm not even joking
#I dodged it but like it truly felt like we were pigs raised to slaughter. slaughter being prostitution#every little detail I remember now as adult with basic child psychology education from my teacher background is just. how#I'm not brave enough to say 'jail to mother' (yet) but honestly...#what wrong could come from making a bunch of girls used to lying about their age ignoring being made uncomfortable and disrespected#especially by adults who can make all sorts of rules and claims on their bodies and schedules that are treated as secrets#I had the best experience possible and I am certain I did get pimps approaching me my mother and contractors#and even then I felt very weird that I was often sent to nightclubs that only allowed adults as clients but since I was there to get on#stage as work then I could get in and actually I got instructed to keep on 'vip areas' that typically had a lot more drugs circulating#the heels the clothing and makeup I got put on were also so wrong#I didn't hate it at the time some things made me uncomfortable but I liked dancing I liked fashion and I liked how the fact I was 'making#money' made me more respected in my house and I started getting more independence (that I probably shouldn't have been given either)#but ugh the existing photographs already make me want to throw up and I am glad there aren't photographs of the worse 'dance' jobs I did#very strange little universe#I also feel like I was the only girl that didn't have an eating disorder but mostly cuz I already had problems with alcohol that did the jo#but also I got in much older than the other girls and out pretty fast#crazy that 13 is old but like you genuinely hear of 6 year old who are responsible for a considerable portion of the household income#YIKES#the compliments I got on managing to look older and 'being so mature'. yikes#anything that allows a child to be the one making most of the family's income is a receipt for disaster#.txt

There was some poll done among swifties on voting and I can't find it now, because after miss americana pulled a stunt to fight off the backlash, news are drowning in it and it's hard to search for that poll, so idk how much exactly, but something between 10%-20% swifties said that they're gonna vote on whoever Swift endorses no matter what this candidate says or represents.
Oh yikes 💀 I’m not going to form any strong opinion unless I can actually find a reliable source on this, but the fact that it’s actually believable is… not good lmao

Warning- this is a very petty post, but I think I'm entitled to at least one petty, pissed-off reaction every time I finish a classic novel that hit harder than I expected so take this as my quota for the year.
Also spoiler warning for a book that came out over a century ago but still, I didn't know the plot going in so don't want to ruin it for anyone else, if you haven't read it shut your eyes. (Also Local Tumblr User Going Wild Over Book Published a Hundred Years Ago That Everybody Else Already Read should probably be categorised as akey part of indigenous tumblr culture at this point).
Anyway I just finished the War of the Worlds and in between studying I've thinking about Themes and Motifs as you do, and idly looking for further analysis. I then accidentally ran into an article called 'A Quiet Place II Succeeds Where the War of the Worlds Failed' and:
Tumblr media
Now I haven't seen any of the Quiet Place films, this is not a rant against them and of course everyone is entitled to their own opinions. But re: the ending of The War of the Worlds, I have to ask, did this guy somehow miss, uh, the entire point of the book or am I just utterly insane?
#You're right it's not very satisfying for humanity that the invaders are foiled by a bacteria and not human action! Maybe that's the point!#Maybe it's supposed to be FRIGHTENING and make you ask questions about what humans will do under extreme stress#Not be a morally uplifting tale about Humanity Heroically Defeating the Martians in a Glorious Hollywood Ending#Maybe it's MEANT to be unsatisfying because this is not a straightforward fairytale#I mean I've only read it once and don't know much about Wells' work so I might have misunderstood the point of the book too#But at places it is a very pessimistic view of the human condition and that's partly WHY IT'S SO POWERFUL#That doesn't mean there aren't moments of individual acts of heroism (the Thunderchild for example)#But the question is not just 'how will humanity beat the Martians and prove that we're still the masters of the universe'#Rather 'a) why is humanity so confident that it's ultimately in control of its own destiny#And b) here's lots of scenes of societal collapse and of people pushed to the brink and what would YOU do in those circumstances?#Would YOU feel remorse about silencing the curate even if it did lead to his death?#What if it rather than a foolish adult it had been a small child?#And even if they were weak did they DESERVE it? Yes it might have been necessary but should it be policy going forward?#Would you also be attracted briefly by the certainties that the artilleryman's (rather fascist) plan seems to offer so humanity survives?#But what sort of humanity would that be if it DID survive and is it worth it? The narrator feels he needs to justify the curate's death#The artilleryman would have probably never have thought it was anything OTHER than justifiable or indeed laudable#Under strain and stress would you start to turn against even your loved ones and become brutal?#Is that the only hope for human survival beyond complete surrender? And was the destruction of London maybe even 'cleansing'#In the eugenics sense or in the sense of a natural horror of dirt and germs?#And the vast exodus of six million people fleeing headlong in panic - we might not have seen that exact phenomenon#But didn't the twentieth century subsequently go on to show us unprecedented scale of slaughter and refugee movements and communal strife?#At the end of the day what really separates humanity from other animals? And what separates us from the Martians?#It's not an uncontroversial book- it was written over a hundred years ago for goodness sake and there are questions worth asking#about the way imperialism and arguments about eugenics and population control and all sorts of other dodgy areas operated on Wells' mind#But dear God I really don't think the problem with the book is that 'Humanity didn't save the day!'#Unsatisfying ending? Yes. A FAILURE? No not in my opinion- looks like it was exactly what Wells set out to do#Humanity didn't win the war of the worlds they had a narrow escape and though it might not be martians next time#Why wouldn't disaster return in the future? Sure we've studied their flying machines and even preserved a martian in a jar#But for all our science what have we ACTUALLY learned that will enable us to avert future human catastrophes? Ethically or socially?#Alright rant over- as usual my opinion is not universal nor necessarily well-informed this take just really got my goat

Man, there are just a lot of characters lately that can claim the Ruby Defense (made objectively terrible decisions that hurt people but they're also emotional kids/teens and shouldn't have been made to shoulder those decisions in the first place)

I'm blown away fr. I've been insanely productive today and can now actually feel good to give myself a bit of a viddy gaem break before continuing to be productive for a bit more and then calling it a day. Like I fucking hit it out of the park today!!!
Good job me ~
#the things I am capable of if my brain is not holding me back is insane#tbf it was all on the pc and taking care of things (that includes important adult things)#on the computer is a lot easier than in person or on the phone so#which is actually why I would like to have a job that allows me to like#do my job like this just on a pc with minimal human contact#but alas#I work in retail lmao#so I gotta suck it up I guess#glances at the really attractive woman that I sort of made friends or something with the other day#maam please make me your assistant T_T I am very capable of learning and also I will give you kisses if you let me#anne I'm begging you#make me your cringe fail wife that is also your secretary you'll have to teach me everything but#I will do a great job I'm so good at such things most of the time#I am very good with words and with being vaguely professional while being slightly off putting#I will never forget your appointments unlike all of my own and#I can type fairly quick so I can do most of your work for you easily#okay but guys#can you imagine if you could simply get an office job while being and adhd disaster and#not having to follow a dress code??#dream job fr ngl#I'd die to be the person who ends up sort of as the weird office mascot but is still lowkey unreplaceable because it turns out they#actually have a natural talent for the job and they bring good ideas that are kind of outside the box because they dont know there is#a box to begin with#but also after finishing some hard work they lowkey hibernate#anywy#I will probably die in retail as much as I hate it because I absolutely lack the professionality#and the willingness to buy a ton of boring as clothes just to work in an office orz

Don't you think it's a bit sad how socially if you're bad at something or something doesn't go your way you can talk about it freely and everyone is sympathetic and when something finally goes right everyone cheers
But if things usually go well for you you're supposed to shut up about it lest it sounds like you're bragging or trying to make others feel miserable and when something finally goes wrong everyone calls that "karma", is happy about your misfortune or tells you to suck it up because "everything else goes great for you why do you care"
I don't know I suppose I'm just a privileged whiny child that is upset that something isn't as good as she wanted it to be

i see “your parents actually werent around much” and say “that isnt angsty enough and doesnt channel my personal trauma in a way i want”
#cw for addiction and suicide in the following tags my besties <3#both of her parents were definitely addicts. i think her dad was also a musician and like. at first it was drinking#and then it was opiates at parties and then it was heroin.#he died. i think. right around when she met seven. right before. seven never met him. so she was. what they met in 7th grade?#she was 12. and she got into an honest to god fight with her dad and screamed that he was ruining their family.#& he stormed out. and. she doesn't actually know. she was 12 and no one would tell her. all she knows is that she hurt him.#and then he was dead. as an adult she wonders if it was an intentional OD or just he was upset and did too much.#as a kid there was just such a clear line between 'she was hurt and said something cruel and someone she loved got hurt'#i mean of fucking course it has a profound impact on her. but she's pretty reserved because of it. and careful w her words and actions.#(seven is the only person she was ever vulnerable with and that ended badly too innit <3)#anyway her mom is still around. she's a garden variety alcoholic. after what happened to her husband she's tried to quit a few times.#she always relapses. she thinks florrie hates her. she's terrified to reach out or say anything to her.#florrie is afraid to invest in her or really get close because. well. she was close to her dad.#miss ma'am doesn't HAVE any secure attachments. she doesn't HAVE anyone she can be vulnerable with.#she's not going to put any kind of trust in someone who seems to her to be unstable.#which i think is part of her little crush on orion. her life is a mess man she's a little bisexual disaster.#oh also i think she has a sister. i haven't decided older or younger. she's estranged and kind of pissed at florrie.#they were close as teenagers but once golden hour took off florrie prioritized the band a few too many times#and left her sister to deal with their mom. and her sister just kind of went. 'fuck it fuck you all' and fucked off to london.#they text each other happy birthday usually. that's about it.#carly.txt#carly's ocs#oc: florrie#brother you know i'm down bad for an oc when i start writing tag essays.

Help I took (prescribed) Adderall for the first time and I’m hyper focusing on the wrong things: namely buying Star Wars decor instead of 1) writing my fic 2) cleaning my room and 3) doing accounting for taxes. Fail.

Empathy challenge: impossible - Generate more media coverage expressions of sympathy for the 100+ children who drowned in the Mediterranean boat disaster recently than the singular 19 year old whose father was wealthy enough to buy all ~600 victims of that catastrophe a seat spot on the disaster sub and still be a billionaire. Philanthropy is easy when you're the one who has all the stuff.
And don't even get me started on the "quintessential British explorer" codswallop. He was a spoilt tourist. The two quintessentially British things he did are spaffing a load of money on self aggrandising nonsense, and fucking dying in a place he had no good reason to be.
There is also some real irony in experts on a maritime disaster not noticing any signs of their own pending maritime disaster.
As a final also on empathy and irony, I am aware that I am shitting on human suffering right after chastising the media for largely ignoring the much greater example of human suffering. This is on purpose. We collectively need to normalise hostility and antagonism towards the ultra-wealthy. Scorn them, mock them, laugh at their tragedy and their pain. Make them the only truly acceptable target.
Revive that brutally dehumanising old "joke": what do you call 5 multi-millionaires at the bottom of the ocean? A good start.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This whole thing is a fucking farce.
