Chapter seven of Time is a Flat Circle is up and boy oh boy is it a doozy! Here are the extras for this chapter! <3
- This chapterâs title is from âNobodyâ by Mitski. She was my rock throughout writing this chapter. If I had less self restraint, the entirety of both of the LoopJuice playlists would be all Mitski. I feel like this song, and the line I chose for the title in particular, really reflect what our sweet little demon wants deep down.
- âChrist on a fuckinâ bikeâ is taken straight from a coworkerâs vernacular.
- âWhen did I teach him how to summon new clothes?â He did! It was mentioned in passing in a previous chapter that he showed both Adam and Barbara how to conjure new clothes. This is to show how shoddy his memory has gotten.
- ââBeeblebooseââ is, of course, a reference to everyoneâs favorite sad puppet show. Also, he canât even type out his own name due to the curse.
- â.. that erotic Colonel Sanders romance novel..â this is a real thing, unfortunately.
- âThe idea of eating brought the bitter taste of bile to the back of his mouth.â One unfortunate possible side affect of burnout is an aversion to food. Everything suddenly seems disgusting, and just the idea of eating sickens you.
- âHis lips remained still. It felt as if his whole mouth was coated in cotton.â This is sign of overstimulation I personally experience quite regularly. Your mouth just refuses to work!
- On that same note - a side effect of persistent autistic burnout is significant memory loss and/or brain fog. Hence why Beej forgot (and still continues to sometimes) that the humans can now remember everything.
- âCan I touch you, Bug?â Always ask permission before touching someone who you believe to be having some sort of panic attack or meltdown. Barbara knows to do this due to her experience with Adam!
- âLook at those chompers!â Indeed! Beetlejuiceâs teeth are based on that of a spotted hyena, like Adam theorizes later. They have a specialized premolar that can break bone. Here is a pic for reference!
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4de8dc934efff6eac542d33ed64c01d3/c42b6114a264d877-79/s500x750/c39f7a33e94ed1b5cacba7aac68d12eba4da9430.jpg)
- âHow come your tears are black?â Itâs actually because theyâre mixed with soot from the hellfire in his chest! Beetlejuiceâs tears smell like a campfire.
- âSometimes he still felt like roadkill again.â He has yet to be hit by a car, but he has been trampled by horses.
- âHe was a bit taken aback at how curly and.. fluffy his hair had gotten.â They have hair that naturally curls, itâs just been so long since it was clean enough for them to see it. After this point, Beetlejuiceâs hair is curly and voluminous! Thatâs why the other characters find it hard to resist playing with.
- â.. odd rumbling sensation..â Beetlejuice doesnât know what purring is, or that they do it. They just find the noise embarrassing.
- Adam had a hyperfixation on animals at large when he was young, and spent his free time as a wee tot rereading books of animal facts. This is why he is so knowledgeable and enthused about BJâs animalistic traits.
- âI met a real foxy witch in a swamp who had an alligator familiar once.â This is a reference to the webcomic Muted, which is about queer witches in New Orleans. Give it a read!
- âCâmon Beej, donât be like that! Youâre, like, the Mike to their Debbie and Dave!â â⊠what?â âYouâre the Gonzo to their Kermit and Miss Piggy!â These are references to my (and Lydiaâs) favorite throuple ships in media, besides Beetlands. Mike, Debbie, and Dave are from âKiller Klowns from Outer Spaceâ, and Gonzo, Kermit, and Miss Piggy are, of course, from The Muppets.
- Beetlejuiceâs frantic shrimp pocketing is based on another character I deeply relate to, Eleanor Shellstrop from âThe Good Placeâ.
- ââwho in this wide world does not know the great B-â This line is a reference to the musical âSweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Streetâ, specifically the song âPretty Womenâ. I cannot stop the musical references unfortunately
- Ms. Keaton is supposed to be the old woman who tries to bring a pie to the Deetz family in the musical, but her name is, of course, a reference to Michael Keaton, the original actor for Beetlejuice in the Tim Burton film.
- On the surgeries Beetlejuice mentioned - he has gotten top surgery! He is very proud of his top surgery scars. They are not the scars he mentioned being ashamed of in a previous chapter.
- As stated, Lydia is a demigirl! She uses she/they pronouns, and Beetlejuice is nonbinary and uses he/they/it pronouns.
- On the head bumping - Lydia picked it up shortly after Beetlejuice first did it to her. Itâs how cats and Beetlejuice show affection. Barbara and Adam are slowly starting to adopt it over time as well.
- Beetlejuiceâs horns are, like Adam theorizes, based on a sheepâs. Here is a little sketch of how they used to look, and how they look now! (Also, a peek at his ears. Iâm not entirely happy how they came out in the drawing, so this may change.)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/df9f20cef6b233e7f605e1dc87f3025b/c42b6114a264d877-cf/s640x960/a510bffc64de9b82bc96bc4aa564ddd48274f9dd.jpg)
- The tail!! Here is a rough drawing of how it looks.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/537b4eeec2f712607553a69ac01274bd/c42b6114a264d877-f1/s540x810/849b3d25e73204bdb69661c4d5434f1010bbf53f.jpg)
- It is not scaled like a snake, but rather like a possumâs tail. It is prehensile, meaning it can grip things and even support his weight if he used it to hang upside down. It reaches down to about his ankles. The tip shakes like a rattlesnakeâs (no noise, though) when heâs nervous or deep in thought, or just as a self-soothing thing. This is based on what my own catâs tail does when heâs nervous!
- The ear-piercing scene is meant to evoke a similar one in âThe Parent Trapâ, since it is a sibling bonding scene I really enjoy and find very affective.
- On the demons of their past - each demonâs name is based on a star, like Beetlejuiceâs own. They are unafraid to envoke Rigelâs name because he is dead. Deb and Cyrus are nicknames based on their true names, like Beetlejuice and Betelgeuse. I am excited to have Deb and Cyrus to show up in Part 2!
- Beetlejuiceâs first marriage was by choice to someone he knew. Their second marriage was an arranged political union.
- Deb is a trans woman!
- âIâll talk more, just cut it out with the weird⊠teary eyes!â Not even demons are immune to puppy-dog eyes.
- Beetlejuiceâs favorite meal was a bone broth made from meal scraps and various herbs.
- âChari-sardâ Adam was comparing Beetlejuice to a Charizard. Both the demon and the PokĂ©mon have flames that are connected to their life force, and they will die if it ever goes out.
- The whole scene describing Beetlejuiceâs favorite meal is based on a similar scene in âIsle of Dogsâ, where a stray dog describes the only time he was ever adopted before. He bit a member of his new family so hard he had to be hospitalized, and he doesnât know why he did it. He says he thinks maybe he was scared. The grandmother of the family brought him a bowl of chili while he was locked in the garden shed, which he says he likes to imagine was for him. He escaped after that and went back to being a stray. This scene strikes a chord with me, and reminds me very deeply of Beetlejuice. He doesnât understand why he lashes out. He doesnât want to. Heâs not a violent demon. Heâs just⊠scared. (Highly recommend âIsle of Dogsâ if you enjoy this fic! It, along with Wes Andersonâs other films, really resonate with me and my experience as an autistic/neurodivergent person. There will be references to âFantastic Mr. Foxâ and âAsteroid Cityâ, as they also greatly influenced how I think and write.)
- Barbara enjoys cooking, as she has a very perceptive palette and likes to experiment. Adam is more adept at baking, because he likes to follow instructions.
- The âshrimps is bugsâ hoodie is a real one that one of my good friends has. He is studying etymology.
- âDonât be suspicious, donât be suspicious-â this is based off of a popular gag in âParks and Recâ, one of my favorite shows. (And Adam and Barbaraâs! The millennials in my life love a good workplace comedy.)
- âWhy couldnât he just he just grip the spoon the same way he had with his left hand?â Beetlejuice is unaware that dominant and nondominant hands are a thing.
- Like my beloved millennial dad figure, Adam has a deep love for a random movie from the 80âs. I feel like every dadâs got one. His is, of course, âThe Terminatorâ. Arnold Schwarzenegger was his bisexual awakening. All of the factoids he shares about the film are true!
- Finally, the legs! Like his horns, Beetlejuiceâs legs resemble that of a sheepâs own back legs. His hooves are cloven, like stated, and his fur is black with brown undertones, like a black cat, or this sheep below! The fur doesnât grow out much due to stress, but he used to have to shear it often by himself as a child. He probably will have to start doing so again the healthier and happier he gets!
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/32ef770844e5be67b0fffe3c2401c845/c42b6114a264d877-30/s250x250_c1/cf753b2b3dafc406655ef56f3a2de57475e31dc8.jpg)
- Nurse Ratched is a villainous nurse from pop culture. Research her with caution, as she does some rather heinous things. Barbara likes true crime!
- A âTexas Switchâ is a technique used in filming, and is used in âThe Terminatorâ. My favorite example is in âA Quiet Place Part Twoâ!
- âOdd, reattached limbs had never healed that quickly before.â That is because they are getting proper care!
- âTo distract from the odd little sound they involuntarily made, (seriously, what was that? A chirp?)â It was a trill! Or as I call it, a âmrrpâ. Some people call it the âcat activation noiseâ.
- âSome strange show about people working for the governmentâ this is, of course, âParks and Recâ!
- And thatâs it, nothing else happened in this chapter and it ended happily :) (The flashbacks BJ had while having a panic attack are from his mother, Rigel, and Lydia stabbing him, obviously. Yes, all of them stabbing him in some way.)

2023 Character Wrap
Top 9 characters for the year.
1.) Major Anthony P. Havers-BBC Ghosts
aka my soft boy.
(Surprise the self-proclaimed Havers lunatic loves Havers đ) Just know this man stole my heart in 2021 in under 4 minutes (the microexpressions fml) and this year it was my highlight to see him again. He's kind, protects the man he loves from ridicule, has a boyish grin and a cheeky streak. He likes dancing. He fell for his beau because he was attracted to his kindness. He's been through it and continues to go through it đąAlso PSC answered my question about him and I'm still screaming about it to this dayđ„șđ
2. The Captain -BBC Ghosts
aka my creaky boy.
He is silly, kind, gay and autistic, a dad, sometimes bitchy and one of my most beloved characters ever. Also so gorgeous and a little bit pathetic. I adore him with all my heart and soul. Blorbo from my shows.
3. Thraxus Boorman -Willow 2022
Sarcastic, great fighter, loyal, kind but he'll jump of cliffs to deny that (literally), the funniest character of 2023 and an absolute iconic bi disaster. He's a classic rogue, as is his absolute badass girlfriend.
4.) Joe Pritchard -The light in the hall
aka Joe, babes
Such a brilliant character, somehow really dark and mysterious but ultimate kicked puppy vibes. He'll keep you (and himself) guessing until the end if he really killed someone. He has amnesia due to traums. I really wasn't sure until the end if he did it or not. Amazing character. My Boy needs 1 million hugs.

5.) Graydon Hastur-Willow 2022
aka Graydon, babes aka Prince of darkness
A prince who loves learning esp. languages, very, very dark past, kind, loving, just some guy in love, easily corrupted but he's fighting it. and as it turns out he has a gift for magic. The sweetest love confession ever.
6. Barbara Parker/Sophie Straw-Funny woman
Gorgeous, hilariously funny, smart, sweet, standing up for what she believes in and makes her way in an industry that only treasures her because of her looks. But she makes them see how brilliant her brain is.
7. Sir Humphrey Bone -BBC Ghosts
aka Humphrey my goldhaas
Awkward, kind and odd. He deserves all the love in the world and to be seen and loved for who he is. This year he's getting revenge on those who ignore/mistreat him and I am here for it. Boy is not the best listener though.
8. Lord Adam Quinn -A kind of spark
aka my pretty evil princess
He is legit evil okay. But idgaf. Great villain and his modern day equivalent makes me weak in the knees. Portrayal wise he is also a small amount of ridiculous and I love that.
9. Robin the caveman - BBC ghosts
aka my chaos gremlin
Kind, wise, chaotic little gremlin also sometimes more the family dog than anything else. Loves space. Utterly hilarious and tragic at the same time. His worst trait is incest according to him. I love him so much I'm gonna get a tattoo that's just about him.
To be fair I have a plethora of beloved characters that rotate in my brain 24/7 but these nine were either new or in special focus this year. Ghosts hyperfixation is at it's absolute peak, I was barely able to watch anything else. Also I watched some things that didn't leave me with a favourite character đ€·đ»ââïžHowever honourable mention has to be Allan from Barbie.
I'm tagging @hollow-ghost-fire , @unusual-ly ,@ineffablelunatic , @tonightwedance and @realismreading

wait wait you like minari too? your taste is impecabble<3 just wondering, do you have any other favourite movies/recs?
sat on this bc I wanted to give a detailed response lolz I love minari so much I thought about youn yuh-jung's performance in that film for such a long time after watching it she was so gorgeous and so phenomenal and when she won the best supporting actress Oscar I about lost my damn mind, so so deserved
other things I love in no particular order:
-the favourite (I love Yorgos Lanthimos' work the lobster is another favorite and his new one coming out poor things looks AMAZING and like it was constructed specifically with all of my own personal tastes in mind - I'm so excited for it and need to read the book immediately)
-not to be a film bro but interstellar is top two of my favorite films of all times idc Nolan is a master and I watch and love everything he makes (ive watched tenet like 10 times and still have no idea wtf is going on and I LIKE THAT about it )
-not to be a basic bitch now but pride and prejudice is my favorite movie ever ever I watch it at least once a month every single month it'll never get old and yes I do cry at the end every time
-to go hand in hand with my love of historical romance novels I am also a great lover of period dramas obviously I love Emma (2020) so much it's a gorgeous work of art, Jane eyre (2011) I love Mia wasikowska, Marie Antoinette and anything else Sofia Coppola has ever made, Anna karenina (another Joe wright masterpiece)
-anything Wes Anderson but particularly Rushmore (1998) which is one of his lesser known films I feel like but it means a lot to me for various very personal reasons and I wish more people talked about it (I need to watch asteroid city immediately)
-PHANTOM THREAD greatest romcom of all time (jk hehe) but fuck Paul Thomas Anderson I don't like that dude
-everything guillermo del torro but particularly crimson peak (guillermo my man pls pls pls plsssssssss do Dracula and cast Adam driver I'll give u my first born plsssss splsssssss guillermo father pleaaassseeeeee!!!!)
-the green knight !!!!!!!!!!!! changed my brain when I watched it dev Patel is so fucking hot but also like it was just so gorgeous and such a wonderful adaptation and the monster fucker in me low key liked the green knight himself likeeeeeeee idk what to say I am the way I am
-Robert Eggers the light house, the man from uncle (I love most guy Richie films I love his high paced action and all that fun stuff), park chan-wook's STOKER !!!!!!!! I fucking love that film omg, everything Denise villeneuve too but particularly arrival is a goddamn masterpiece and it's so wrong that Amy Adams didn't win the Oscar for that (poor Amy with the no Oscar curse)
-for like comfort movies stepmom (1998) - devastating but I watch it all the time if I could live in any house from a movie ever it'd be Susan Sarandon's house in that movie, billy elliot (2000), 20th century women (2016), lady bird, funny girl - BARBARA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!, howl's moving castle, this is 40 (my favorite comedy ever), paterson (2016), uptown girls, the rocky horror picture show
-oh and more recently the banshees of inisherin moved me so incredibly deeply I actually recently got in an argument with someone who said that it was pointless and stupid and I was SO OFFENDED devastating funny introspective all the things I was very sad when Collin ferrel didn't win the academy award for it I thought he was so ... I don't know what the right word is I guess like changed? in the role of padraic and GOD BERRY KEOGHAN there goes that dream I cried so hard so beautiful Kerry Condon also they were all so spectacularly devastating in that film I could go on about it for days
sorry this was so long you guys know I love to run my mouth when given the opportunity hehe

This is probably going to be long lol so sorry You outdid yourself with the beetlejuice story! I am the anon who requested it and I am absolutely blown away. Everything about it was just pure perfection (including the way you described the musical compared to the movie and your disclaimer for beetlejuice and Lydia shippers) and I laughed out loud so many times. The vibe was exactly like the musical and it was just perfect. The characters were written so perfectly and so much like how they are in the musical. I loved the little Easter eggs like the spin your own yarn kit and the kombucha. Also, a coin collection is such an Adam thing to have. I love how you wrote Adam and Barbaraâs relationship and how you wrote them as characters. The way you wrote Barbara was so flustering and wonderful and I am here for it. It was so cute and so accurate. Also beetlejuice eating the game pieces made cry from laughter itâs such a BJ thing to do. The back and forth between BJ and Lydia was just perfection especially how lydia described the maitlands đ and her saying she will bring bj back to life just to kill him. This is my new favorite fanfic I have ever read. Thank you so much for agreeing to write for beetlejuice! It was amazing
*cradles this in my hands* this ask can fit so much serotonin in it
First of all, thank you for swinging by to share this with me!! It always warms my heart when the original prompter comes back ;w; I'm so so so glad you enjoyed the fic. Thank you for requesting it!
This is like BEYOND sweet I'm blown away. This musical has a special little place in my heart and brain so it was a blast actually getting to bring parts of it to life!! I really love the way everyone's personalities shine through in the show ahhh!!
Listen. I wanted them to list more attic things in 'Barbara 2.0'. I know Adam and Barbara have the most USELESS stuff in their attic that they constantly just shuffled around until they died. If you made the kombucha and it tasted like armpit why did you keep it, please--
Also I just really love Barbara and Adam as characters?? They're really endearing to me. My favorite pottery barn and dry white wine duo. Had they lived any longer they would've hung a 'bless this mess' or 'live laugh love' sign above the door. Just a wifeguy and his beautiful wife. They both think mustard is too spicy but they'd go full poltergeist if a teenager called them dude. they're so!! yeah <3
AND YES BEETLEJUICE!! I'm so grateful to have seen the show live a few times because like. alex brightman (who played beetlejuice) always did and improvised the smallest but most random things and his mannerisms really stuck with me. There was a night where both he and Adam's actor (i believe he was a swing? or the adam after the original) kept messing with each other and they both broke character during 'fright of their lives' giggling like children and i was like yes. this is the vibe i need. BJ's the living embodiment of 'never let em know your next move'. He's super super fun to write. my beloved wretched little goblin <3
BJ and Lydia's friendship is truly so special to me they're just both so weird. It's one of the main reasons that I love the musical so much--you know where the show is going if you've seen the movie but you really feel like BJ and Lydia could be friends. It's sweet. She's got ghosts in her attic and they care about her, what more could she need?
Also LMAO I'm glad you thought the disclaimer was funny. I made myself laugh writing it. I've unfortunately always gotta put disclaimers on certain things I write but I figured lets at least have some fun with it hehe
ALSO ANON LOOK AT ME. LOOK. NEVER APOLOGIZE FOR LONG ASKS IT MAKES MY DAY!! seriously like!! the fact that you were moved enough to write this much about my silly little fic means the actual world for me. never ever apologize, there's nothing to apologize for <3
#bug answers#anon#also theres one more easter egg...#lydia's 'worst of the best' line came from the workshop version of say my name!#i know the demo edition of the musical is available on apple music and possibly youtube? but its so cool to see how much its changed!!#also was inspired by the fact that when you see the show beetlejuice pretends to tickle lydia at the end of 'that beautiful sound'!#well. at least alex does idk if the swings would do it but yeah#that was...an experience seeing live#to have this elevated to the status of being ur fav is a true honor bb ;w;#thank you again for this lovely message!!!!#doing that thing where i ramble about my fics but!!! truly i just really loved writing this#and ive wanted to write a fic for this show for forever now#and!!! ive got a maitlands prompt on my list too so more is coming!!#this show's constantly stuck in my head but i wouldnt have it any other way

maitland-deetz household on a snow day!
it's blizzarding where i live today and i just had to get this out of my brain. based on the musical canon, as usual <3
charles:
is up at the ass crack of dawn. this is unrelated to the snowstorm, he's just the first person to get up in the house. he gets up before the sun rises and stays up so late and no one knows why
anyways, he gets to see the calm before the storm (literally) if it hasn't started snowing overnight
usually he is always dressed up, but on days with inclement weather, he stays in his pajamas. i'm talkin' navy blue silk matching two piece pajamas with his name embroidered in white above the chest pocket
while waiting for barbara to wake up he brews coffee and gets hers ready. does the wordle. charles is a wordle fanatic. he and adam have a groupchat where they just send their daily wordle results. charles is really good at it! adam not so much
has a snowblower that breaks so frequently that it's a winter staple to see him and adam in the garage trying to fix the stupid snowblower. they probably spend more time working on it than actually using it
lydia's like, "guys. just buy a new snowblower." and adam insists he can make it work again so she just says whatever and leaves
does a little bit of everything. some reading, makes some tea, dusts the shelves in the bedroom, tries to fix the sink so it stops dripping. being stuck inside makes him restless
delia:
snow is not her thing. she always complains the entire day before the storm about how she's achy and she knows there's bad weather ahead
much like charles, she stays in her pajamas. in fact they have matching pajamas. hers are purple, though, and they say her name on the opposite side
it was a sweet gesture (his idea) and she loves them. lydia pretends to gag when she sees them together
her hair is a wreck. she does not bother to attempt to fix it. really snowy days for delia are a day of pre-accepted dread and she is going to maximize her comfort god damn it
the second last to get up, besides beej, who basically doesn't count because he spends a lot of time sleeping (like a very lazy cat)
has a cup of tea and joins everyone for breakfast. makes conversation. everyone is happy when delia joins because she does most of the talking if they're still waking up
spends a lot of time lounging on the furniture or maybe taking a very long bath with candles and crystals and the like. in the total darkness
it does help to soothe her joints and stuff! she always feels a lot better after a hot bath so sometimes charles tries to coax her to take one (admittedly it does not take much coaxing at all. it's more like a suggestion)
adam:
gets up around the same time that lydia does (usually before her by five or ten minutes) and goes downstairs to help finish up breakfast
also stays in pajamas. plaid pants and a plain tee shirt. has house slippers and his reading glasses on
reads the paper at the kitchen table. likes to keep up on the news. unfortunately they probably didn't get a new paper due to the snow, so he rereads old ones
does the wordle (with commentary aloud to charles about how he can't imagine what the word could be while charles tries to give vague hints but they're way too vague or straight out misleading)
makes hot cocoa for everyone in the evening when it gets dark. the real good kind, by whisking actual melted chocolate into heated milk
takes some time to work on his little projects up in the attic, like whittling or model work. he tends to focus more on house-related projects when it isn't a day he can 'relax'
makes dinner for everyone, too. something warm and comfortable and homemade that leaves everyone feeling full and happy. beams whenever someone compliments whatever it is on their first bite. he knows it's good, but to hear it makes him happy
barbara:
she's the second to wake up and immediately goes down to the kitchen to help charles with breakfast. they usually make it together for everyone
he's got her coffee ready for her when she gets downstairs, right on the counter and in her favorite mug
unlike pretty much everyone else, she gets properly dressed. she layers well to stay warm, but could go outside and not be seen as wearing pajamas
loves the snow. is happy to see it, even when it's dangerous conditions outside (plus it means the whole family will be together for a while!)
it makes her and adam extra cold, though, which she doesn't enjoy, especially when they're trying to rest together or if the family watches a movie, because whoever sits by them has to deal with it
always wants to make a snowman if it's nice enough
forces everyone to dress for the weather if they're going outside. boots, long underwear, hat, scarf, gloves. they complain but they'll thank her for it later
spends a lot of the day reading in the living room by the fire
lydia:
gets out of bed when she hears adam go down the stairs. he knocks on her door to let her know that heâs up and that breakfast will be ready in five or ten
changes out of pajamas but into comfy clothes. so essentially daytime pajamas
doesn't drink coffee but knows that adam will make hot chocolate later and looks so forward to it
when bj gets up she nags him to go outside with her. barbara always frets a little bit and worries she'll get frostbite so makes them both bundle up really good before going outside and will not let them if it's snowing too hard or really windy
adam joins them sometimes. on a nice day where it's sunny and there's not a lot of actual precipitation the whole family (well, save for delia) will go outside and have snowball fights. lydia and bj vs charles, adam, and barb
barbara is SCARY competitive when it comes to stuff like this. she's really nimble and great at dodging. charles is really good at throwing and adam is good at hiding. they are both bad at not getting hit.
lydia is also great at dodging and decent at throwing, and beej just goes to town throwing as many snowballs as he can with as many arms as he can possibly generate. he looks like a cartoon with his arms spinning that fast. it's almost as scary as barbara
it really comes down to barb vs lydia and bj if we're being honest. sometimes adam will "sacrifice" himself by jumping in front of her to catch a hit and it makes her laugh so much
bj:
sleeps in to the afternoon. this is no different than any other day
entertains himself by changing the embroidery on delia and charles' pajamas to say different things and then see how long it takes for someone to notice
lights the fireplace when he gets up because no one else has bothered to
is pleased when barbara offhandedly thanks him for it. he's still not used to praise for the little things like that
think of calvin and hobbes making snow goons. that's him and lydia so very much. they create the most dastardly snow abominations together and have so much fun doing so
showing them to barbara who's like, "those are so terrifying!" forced smile because she is unsure how she's supposed to react
this seems to satisfy them and she is relieved.
eats snow. so much snow. didn't see a lot of it in the netherworld (maybe none at all) and he has no idea why he isn't supposed to just put it in his mouth and eat it.
has the common sense to not eat yellow snow but doesn't care if there's dirt or mud on it.
sometimes the snowballs he throws have bites taken out of them. adam always cringes to imagine sinking his teeth into snow

Whats new Wiz?
so i assume this is about the new Thought? if not, i am going to talk about it anyway.
first off before i say anything i want to establish here and now that although i am watching more of the beetlejuice cartoon and am beginning to incorporate elements from it into my aus my portrayal of beej himself is probably always going to be mostly musical-based. this is for the simple reason that i think if i tried to write toon juice my brain would melt.
anyway, i say that because this new idea is mostly cartoon-based, but i actually dont have much of an idea of beetlejuice's involvement. dont have much of an idea of anything tbh, this idea is pretty much just a bare-bones concept that came as an offshoot of a really weird dream i had last night that i could not describe if i tried. but regardless, here it is:
au where lydia goes to a boarding school - or at least, the school has boarding and day students, and lydia boards. modern setting but the school is a posh old private one (probably the furthest possible thing to my secondary school so there will be a lot of bullshitting). prudence and bertha are her roomates. i have no idea how american school ages work (as in, where the split between elementary/middle/high is) but the 3 of them are around the age lydia is in the musical and im kinda going off that timeline with my current ideas (as in, delia is a more recent addition). theyve been at the school for at least a year already, and at the end of the year before there was a system for the kids to write down preferences for who they board with next year. lydia, prudence and bertha have a spare bed in their dorm because nobody else put their names down. theyre the Weird Kids, and theyre... mostly okay with that?
anyway, thats the setup, now onto the incting incident: school's haunted. i dont know why this has only become apparent now, but there are ghosts. adam and barbara maitland, to be exact. im not sure how they came to die at the school, im thinking maybe they were teachers (off the top of my head id say barbara taught textiles and adam woodwork, though thats subject to change). lydia has found some evidence for this, and now shes leading her friends in a paranormal investigation. theyre snooping around, sneaking about after hours, all that good shit. and i think that they meddle too far in the supernatural, and somehow beetlejuice gets involved, and shit goes down. but thats really all i have so far.

Pardon me but,, could I possibly request some Beej fluff? It could be anything really. Iâm sorta in a rough spot and feelin kinda lonesome lately? If not thatâs completely okay!! I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day/night!!
I wasnât planning on posting anything til Monday cause I donât have a laptop, but for you, anything! Especially if youâre having a rough day, you deserve some cute Beej! So letâs explore a fluffy headcanon, shall we?
So I 100% believe that Beej is entirely fascinated with certain physical quirks that come with being alive
These include: farting, burping, sneezing, and hiccuping. He just...doesnât know what they feel like? Or why breathers do them? Why do farts smell bad? And why do you sound like a child when you sneeze? (this is @ing me completely) He just has so many questions.
He tries his best to do them but he canât figure out how. One day, you come home from work to see Beej shoveling whole ass cans of beans down his throat because he read somewhere that they make you gassy. There are 10 empty cans on the kitchen table. You start questioning your life choices.
You simply shrug it off, pointing out that even if eating all the beans in your pantry isnât working now, heâll get to experience it someday soon when heâs alive again. He pauses with his eleventh can halfway to his mouth.
âWhatdya talkinâ about, babes?â he asks. âNot like Lyds is gonna be up to marryinâ me again anytime soon...or ever.â
You shake your head fondly. âFor a millenia old demon, youâre incredibly dense, you know that?â You turn and walk into the living room with a knowing smile, plopping down on the couch and waiting.
3...2...1...you hear the can in his hand crash to the tiled floor. Oh good, heâs figured it out.
He nearly crashes into two walls and a loveseat in his floundering attempt at reaching you, but eventually he makes it and drops to his knees in front of you, all pink-haired and toothy grinned.
âBabes, do you...do you really mean it?â he asks, reaching out to grasp both of your hands.
âOf course I do, Beej,â you answer, running you thumbs soothingly over the pink hair on his knuckles. âHow couldnât I?â
âHow couldnât you? I mean...look at me, doll, Iâm not exactly makinâ the cover of any magazines,â he says, glancing down at himself. âYou could be walkinâ down a runway right now and yet youâre sitting here with a dead guy.â
âSoon-to-be-alive guy, first of all,â you reply with a soft grin. âBeej...after all the mind-blowing sex weâve had, youâre really gonna question if Iâm attracted to you?â
You knew the way to this heart, and it was through crude humor. His self-conscious frown spread into a self-satisfied grin as he pulled you off the couch and into his arms.
âGuess you got a point there, babes. A hot piece off ass like yourself wouldnât scream for just anybody,â he points out smugly. âThe Ghost With The Most knows how to please a lady.â
âYes, yes he does,â you chuckle, running your fingers through his hair. âBut I mean it, Beej...I love you. And if I didnât make it clear before, I plan on being with you forever. If youâll have me, of course.â
His sappy grin softens the corner of his eyes, his thumbs rubbing soothing circles into your hips. âWhatever happened to âtil death do you partâ, huh?â he says softly.
You hum, leaning in for a slow, sweet kiss. âSince when has death ever stopped us?â you whisper against his lips. He groans softly and captures your lips again, savoring the taste of you and the warmth of your body pressed against his.
âThe answer is yes, by the way,â he says, pulling away despite you trying to chase his lips. âI know you werenât tryinâ to ask, I mean, you didnât even get me a ring yet. I expect a black diamond, no less than 4 carats, and a platinum band with âBootyJuiceâ engraved on the inside.â
âDoesnât tradition mandate you put the ring on MY finger, BJ?â you ask with a laugh. âBesides, unless you feel like helping me commit a felony, thereâs no way I can afford a rock that size.â
âWouldnât call us âtraditionalâ, babes, buuuuuut if you insist,â he says with a shrug. With a wave of his hand, heâs holding a ring, glittering and delicate and perfect. You gasp softly, one hand flying up to cover your lips. Oh my God, this is actually happening.
âBabes,â he begins. âI donât know the first thing about marriage. I mean, my first marriage was to a 14-year-old, and I kinda got stabbed after having an emotional breakdown, but...oh would you stop looking at me like that, it was a green card thing! Anyways...youâre it for me, doll. Ainât no one ever gonna take you away from me...if you say yes, that is. Make me the happiest demon in the Netherworld and marry me?â
You throw yourself completely into his arms, whispering your answer over and over into his shoulder. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes.
With a teary laugh, he slides the ring onto your finger. It fits perfectly, just as you expected it would. You watch it glitter in the light...and pause.
â...You stole this, didnât you?â you deadpan.
âYou call it stealing, I like to call it âborrowing without collateralâ.â
âShut up and kiss me, you idiot,â you laugh, pulling him in for a celebratory kiss. Wait until Lydia found out- sheâd been planning your future wedding for months, determined for it to be a much happier occasion than her own. Youâd have to veto the whole âreleasing the crowsâ thing, but you were sure sheâd kill it as a wedding planner. Of course, youâd have to get married at her place so Adam and Barbara could attend, and how would you explain this to your MOM, and-
You shut your brain off, choosing to focus on him, your fiancé, the love of your life. Your Beetlejuice.
âBeej?â
âYeah, babes?â
âYou taste like beans.â
âI love you too.â
@scribblepigeon I hope this lifted your spirits a bit, my love! Let me know if you ever wanna talk, my inbox is always open â€ïž

beej and lydia stay married, no romo
I love lesbian!Lydia as much as the next person with functioning brain cells and good taste, but I also kind of love aroace!Lydia who is perfectly content to be conveniently married to Beetlejuice because there are some pretty fun perks to it, even without any romance or anything. (Obviously, this is a platonic fic, please do not tag as ship!)
-
Lydia, a senior in high school and stressed out of her mind, summoned Beetlejuice in the middle of the night. He yawned. âLyds, if you summon me at 3 am one more time, Iâm taking away your summoning privileges.â
She waved an unconcerned hand. âForget about that. Are we still married?â
His face scrunched up. âTechnically, yeah.â
âGreat,â Lydia said. âIf Iâm married, I get way more financial aid for college. Especially since your income is zero. Makes us look poorer.â
âHell yeah, cheat that system!â Beetlejuice cheered.
Lydia smiled and stretched, looking up from her laptop for the first time in hours. There was a glint of mischief in her eye. âDo you think I can claim the sandworm as a dependent?â
-
Lydia came armed and ready to this family reunion, and it was a good thing, too, because Aunt Margery came swooping in for the kill nearly as soon as she caught sight of Lydia. Lydia endured twenty minutes of prodding questions before Margery said, âOh, and I nearly forgot: I met the nicest boy a few days ago. Perfect for youâyou simply must let me introduce you!â
Lydia fished around in her pocket for the wedding ring she kept there for this express purpose, slipping it on discreetly. âOh, Auntie,â she said with mock sincerity. âDidnât you hear? I got married.â
Margery gasped, âNo! Why havenât I met him?â
Lydia put a hand to her heart dramatically. âTragically, my husband died shortly afterwards. I know heâd want me to stay faithful to him, though.â
âOh, you poor dear,â Margery sighed.
âQuit telling people Iâm dead,â Beetlejuice complained, invisible to everyone but the Deetzes.
âSometimes I can still hear his voice,â Lydia said, wiping a fake tear from her cheek.
-
âLydia,â Beetlejuice said solemnly, hat in hand. âIâm cheating on you.â
Lydia gasped and tossed aside her book. âSay itâs not true! How could you?â
âI know,â Beetlejuice said, throwing an arm across his eyes. âAlas, my bootycalls were too sexy for me to resist their siren call. Donât worry, itâs been going on for a long, long time.â
âWho? Who stole you from me?â she cried, leaping to her feet. She shook Beetlejuice by the shoulders. He clasped her wrists with his hands to stop her.
âAdam,â he admitted. He paused for dramatic effect. âAnd Barbara.â
âBetrayed by my own parents!â Lydia sobbed. She collapsed on the couch, shaking.
âHow many times are you two going to do that?â Adam asked tiredly from across the room.
âUntil it stops being funny,â Lydia said, standing up and straightening her dress. She high-fived Beetlejuice.
-
When Lydia was twenty-five, she and Beetlejuice got each other ten-year anniversary presents. She got him a mug that said â#1 husbandâ and had used all her artistic skills to sharpie in the word âdeadâ between â1â and âhusbandâ. He got her a shirt that said âworldâs best no-longer-a-child brideâ. It hadnât been altered or specially ordered. She figured it had come from the Netherworld and promptly added it to her pajama collection.
âLove you, Beej. No romo,â she said.
âBack atcha, kiddo,â he said. âNow, Iâm gonna go have sex with both of your ghost parents. Happy anniversary!â
âDisgusting,â she said fondly.
-
Delia was usually pretty good about letting Lydia be herself, but there were certain things Lydia was sure she would never be able to let go.
âYouâre twenty-six now, Lydia. Itâs time to start thinking about dating, settling down, having a family.â
âIâm still married to Beej, remember?â
âHe doesnât count! Thereâs no certificate! No witnesses!â
Lydia held up one finger and dug around in her backpack. She came up with a crumpled piece of paper and handed it over.
âWhatâs this?â
âCertificate. Witnesses include you, dad, Adam, Barbara.â
The certificate had been produced by Beetlejuice many years before, when Lydia needed to send in paperwork with her financial aid application. The âjudgeâ who âpresidedâ over the wedding was none other than the Right and Honorable Judge Bee T. LeJuice. Lydia had used it on many occasions and, surprisingly, it held up against examination.
âPlus,â Lydia said loftily, âThe only person we know who can annul Netherworld marriages is Juno and Beej kinda murdered her. So Iâm stuck with him.â
Delia sighed and said, âwell, if heâs the only option, I guess I donât mind not having grandchildren."

The Convention Fic Chapter 2
Note: Iâm so humbled and overwhelmed by the amount of love that the first chapter got. Thank you all so much for the comments and reblogs!Â
First Chapter

((Gamer Beej picture by @edgy-drama-queenâ))
Months EarlierÂ
You laid in your bed, huddled under a hundred covers. Beside you, a mountain of used tissue and a few discarded empty bottle of assorted flavors of Gatorade. Your brain felt muddled and your nose wouldnât stop running, every part of your seemed to ache as you scrolled through Twitch, trying to find anything that would keep your attention. You were sure that once you did settle on something, youâd be able to comfortable space out, but while you still had the strength to be picky.Â
The small cold that you had woken up with had steadily gotten stronger through the day. It was now in full swing, and completely kicking your ass. It was two in the morning, and after sleeping on and off all day you were awake (for better or worse). You wanted something easy to watch, or at least entertaining enough to keep your mind from thinking about how everything ached, or how your nose was chapped from blowing it all day.Â
BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE (LIVE)
The thumbnail was simple, and it looked like it had just started. There wasnât much of a description but you found yourself clicking anyway. Once loaded, you were mildly surprised at what you saw; a man looking to be in his early thirties, with green-ish hair (possibly copying Jack...?), scruffy face, and way too close to the camera.Â
âIs this- can you guys see me? Say my name three times if you canât see me!â the man said messing with the camera. You set your laptop to the side and laid down so that you could type with one hand and watch at the same time. You mumbled his name three times as requested, even though you could see him.Â
âItâs showtime, gamers!â he said. âI donât have anything planned for tonight so letâs just boot up steam and play what seems like fun!â
You watched for the next ten minutes as he scrolled through his steam library and picked out a clicker game.Â
âApparently all you do in this game is click your mouse over and over to kill monsters.â he said. âDoesnât sound too exciting but Iâm more in the mood to talk to all of you!â
You glanced at the viewer count in the corner, there were barely 10 people, wait, 9 people in the chat. However, the way that he talked it was as though he was talking to thousands of people.Â
As he played his clicker game he asked questions to the chat, he seemed to have a gimmick where he acted like he was dead or a demon or something; you honestly couldnât tell which in your half-dead state yourself. The few times you participated in the chat, you just responded with simple yes or no answers to his questions.
As the night went on and you continued to doze in and out of sleep, Beej continued to talk. He talked about his friends Barb and Adam (âThey turn me on!â), and someone named Lydia (âSheâs my best friend!â). At one point you think you caught sight of a blond woman and managed to type out âhi Barb.â which surprisingly got caught his eye.Â
âWow, two words from BlankFace!â He laughed. âThatâs a new record! HEY BARB MY FRIEND SAYS HI!âÂ
Friend? Sure, why not. You couldnât help but smile as he continued rambling about the time that he tried to teach them how to be scary. It was a silly story, but it made you fall back asleep for a bit more.Â
It was nearly six in the morning when you cracked your eyes open again, surprised to see that the stream was still going. Though by this point, you were the only one left in the stream. He wasnât talking anymore, having switched over to Minecraft and was running around with TNT blowing stuff up.Â
âHiâ you managed to type, and a few seconds later he smiled.Â
âHeya there BlankFace!â he said. âThought you died there for a few hours!âÂ
âalmostâ then âsickâ was your response.Â
âWait, if youâre sick, shouldnât you be asleep or in bed?â he asked, frowning into the camera.Â
You thought for a second, on how to respond to this man who you barely knew, and yet already knew way too much about. (Though at this point, you werenât quite sure what part of the stream was real and what part was a fever dream). Why had you stuck around for this long on the stream? You knew the answer, and decided to be honest.Â
âLonelyâÂ
He stopped playing for a moment, looking at the word that had appeared on his screen. If your face hadnât already felt too warm from the fever, you would probably feel embarrassed by your honesty.Â
âYou want me to keep talking or just keep playing?â he asked, the energy in his voice softened slightly.Â
âYes.â was the last thing you typed out before falling asleep again.Â
Friday (Morning)
âItâs showtime, gamers!â Beetlejuice yelled into the camera that he had shoved in your hands. âItâs day 1 of the con and Iâm down here with everyoneâs favorite BeetleMod! Hey babes say hi to everyone!â just as quickly as he had given you the camera, it was now being snatched out of your hands and pointed at you.
You werenât sure how much you wanted to be on camera at the moment, being so exhausted already but you knew itâd be easier to go along with it for right now. âHey guys! I made it to the con!â you said.Â
âAlright, enough of the eye-candy.â Beej said, handing you back the camera. âItâs 2 in the morning-â
âThree.â you corrected.Â
âTime means nothing when youâre dead.â he replied. âItâs really fucking late and weâre down here in the arcade with a bunch of imported games that arenât on the computer so weâre gonna play some and our favorite mod here is gonna help me out.â
âIâll kick your ass at DDR.â you said.Â
âOh, is that a challenge?â he asked, smirking at the camera. âWeâll see about that.â
âBring it on, bug boy.ïżœïżœ you replied.Â
The two of you made your way to the DDR machine, and spent the next 20 minutes waiting in line to play. Even in the middle of the night and so early in the convention, it was surprisingly crowded in the arcade. The basement lights were off, save for a few flood lights along the walls and the glow of the many different arcade machines. There was something surreal about standing next to Beej under the neon lights. His green hair seemed to glow even more, and you wondered if there was some glow-in-the-dark hair gel that he used. He often used a multicolored ring light to convey emotion, but as you waited and talked to him, for a moment, you could believe that his hair could change colors so easily.Â
âHow do you get your hair to do that?â you asked, looking up at him.Â
âDo what, babes?â
âThe color change thing. It looks like your hair is almost glowing.â at your words, you could have sworn it glowed brighter. Though that could also just be because of the games flashing around you.Â
âIâm a demon, thatâs how we work!â he replied, faking offence. âI thought my best mod would have known that by now.âÂ
âYou know, the cameraâs off.â you said. âYou donât have to keep putting on a show for my sake.â
He looked at you for a moment, his fake offence shifting to an emotion you tried to grasp; embarrassment maybe? Surprise? Maybe a mixture? He shook it off quickly though and wrapped his arm around your shoulders again.Â
âNo show here, doll.â he said with a smirk, and your heart jumped in your chest at the new nickname. âI am 100% demon.âÂ
You rolled your eyes. âI thought you were âthe ghost with the most.ââÂ
âI am!â he pouted.Â
âSo are you dead or are you a demon?â you questioned. âYouâve never been fully clear on that.â
âIâm dead on the inside.â
âOh, same.âÂ
The two of you laughed and his arm stayed around your shoulders until the two of you were up next. From what you knew about him, he was a very physically affectionate man. On stream, he wasnât one to hesitate hugging and smooching whoever happened to be on camera with him. Beej had no problem hugging Lydia or kissing Adam on the lips. It led to a lot of questions about his sexuality and relationship status. When asked, he said his sexuality was âyesâ and that he was happily dating the Maitlands, which Adam and Barbara denied every time.Â
Anyone who dared make any inappropriate comment about him and Lydia would be banned on site; a job that you had to do more times than you wanted to admit. Disgusting.Â
Still, even though you were sure that the physical contact was only as a friend as you watched the last pair of dancers do their three rounds of DDR you allowed your mind to wander a bit. You imagined for a moment what it would be like if this weekend was one long date between the two of you. Would he use more nicknames? Would he introduce you to people as his partner? What if the two of you were sharing a room and there was only one bed-
âLooks like weâre up, got the camera ready?â He asked, hopping onto the small stage. You made quick work of getting the camera back on and setting it on the slightly busted tri-pod that Beej had produced from his bag. After making sure the angle was right, you hopped on next to him, taking the right pad.Â
Before the two of you had made your way to the front of the line you had agreed to a few rules for this game. It was best 2 out of 3, and you would both be playing on normal mode.
âYou pick the first song.â he said.
You scrolled through the easy songs first, needing a warmup. When was the last time you had played this game properly? It seemed like so long ago that you had a chance to play.Â
The first song was an easy song that you remembered from your younger nerd days. It took you a second to get into the rhythm of it but halfway through you had found your groove to a degree.Â
You won the first round, and the two of you smiled at each other before he picked the next song, a little harder this time but you felt more or less confidant.Â
The beat of the song rattled your insides as you pounded onto the metal stage with your sneakers. You focused as hard as you could on the screen, trying to keep your feet where they needed to be when it was time to stomp. This round was a little harder, and more taxing on you. Though you won the second round, you were nearly doubled over panting.Â
âLooks like you win, doll.â Beej said, looking at the screen.Â
âYeah but we still got one more round. Go ahead, Iâll let you pick.â you offered, being a gracious winner.Â
He immediately stomped on the hardest song of the game.Â
âOh geeze, are we really doing this?â you asked with breathless laughter, standing up again.Â
He looked around, almost as if to make sure that no one was paying attention. âI think itâd just be a fun challenge.â he shrugged.Â
The fast music started up again, and you found it near impossible to have your eyes focus on the arrows that were flying across your screen. Though the first two songs had provided enough of a challenge, this one was near impossible to keep up with. You lost track of your feet and within thirty seconds you were hit with that game over screen.Â
You glanced over at Beej, surprised that he was still going. He wasnât perfect by any means but he was still somehow not losing. Your eyes glanced down as his legs, blurry with the speed he was dancing at and you rubbed your eyes, feeling like something was wrong. You really must be way more tired than you thought, because for a few seconds you would have sworn that Beej had three legs.Â
Still, even if he did have three legs that didnât help him win the final round. Though he lasted a good minute in the level, it wasnât enough to win. The game over screen flashed and he was booed off the stage by the imaginary crowd.Â
âThat... was really impressive.â you said, grabbing the camera again as the two of you moved out of the way for the next set of dancers. âHow did you move your legs that fast?!â
He winked at you. âTrade secret, doll.â he replied. âOnce youâre a true DDR master, then youâll know.â
âDude, I kicked your ass though.â you replied, following him towards the next row of games. âShit, did you let me win?!â you demanded.Â
âHey watch your language!â he teased. âYouâre a mod you gotta set a good example for the kids!â
âWhat kids, most of your streams are marked 18+.âÂ
â18+? In my-â
âGood Christian Discord server?!â you both finished at the same time, laughing at the dumb inside joke.Â
Thatâs how the next few hours went with you and Beej. You walked around the arcade, playing games, roasting each other, and giving your opinions on the games. When you werenât filming him, you were filming the general area getting some good b roll footage of the night. You were constantly swapping between looking at him through the lense and looking at him in front of you. It seemed so unreal that he was actually there and talking to you and touching you in person.Â
You secretly hoped this weekend would never end.Â
The battery in the camera died around 6 in the morning, and you let out a long yawn as you helped pack it back up.Â
âIâm exhausted.â you said, feeling yourself hit a wall. âIâm gonna head back to bed soon and crash. What time is the... thingy?â
âThe what?â Beej asked, amused.Â
âThe thingy you wanted to do tonight. The Friday surprise... thingy.â Oh yeah, your brain no longer existed.Â
âDonât worry about it, you just go get some res- hey, woah!â he jumped slightly and held you upright as you wobbled against him. âAre you okay?â
â...Sleepy...â you mumbled into the hoodie.Â
âOkay, whatâs your room number, Iâm taking you back. I donât need my favorite mod passing out on the escalators and getting shredded to pieces.â he said, holding you tight against his side.Â
â4130.â you mumbled, too tired to disagree and say you could make it yourself.Â
You held onto him as he led you through the small crowd of people that were just waking up or also headed to bed. He felt both warm and cool at the same time with your head against his shoulder. The cloudiness of your brain reminded you of the first time you had watched his streams months and months ago.Â
âHOPE UR FEELING BETTR!â the message in your inbox said the next day. You almost forgot that you had attempted to watch a stream last night and had confessed that you were sick and lonely.Â
âI am, thanks!â you replied. You still mostly felt like crap, but you were conscious enough to at least reply to the message the streamer left.Â
âIF UR STILL LONLEY U SHULD JOIN MY GROUP CHAT!!!!âÂ
You managed to open the door to the hotel room and immediately dropped your badge, your bag, and your pants in that order.Â
âNice undies, doll.â Beej snickered, not even hiding the fact that he was looking you over, and thatâs when you realized what you had done. âAnd here I thought I was gonna have to buy you dinner first.âÂ
You attempted to hide your embarrassment as you went to your bag and dug out a pair of sleep shorts. âShhhhhhh....â you whispered, pulling them on. âYou didnât see anything.âÂ
âRight, I totally didnât see you lead me up to your hotel room, invite me in, and drop your pants.â he replied, still smirking at you. âIf thatâs the reward I get just for walking your home, I canât wait to see what happens after our date tonight!âÂ
â...Date?â you suddenly felt a little more alert as your head jerked towards him. âTonight is a date?â you asked again and you saw Beejâs face suddenly turn to panick as well.Â
âHey, youâre really tired Iâm gonna let you go now get some rest and text me when you wake up. Later, doll!â he said very fast and quickly left. You wanted to run after him, and demand an explanation for what was going on, but you were still too tired. You had barely slept in the last two days out of excitement and nerves.Â
âThis is a problem for Afternoon Me.â you decided, crawling into bed and rearranging the pillows the way you liked. The blackout curtains blocked the rising of the sun and you felt a mild twinge of mourning for the breakfast pass for the hotel that would go unused today. Sleep came easily and quickly as the last thoughts that passed through your brain were of Beejâs arms holding you close.Â
âLooks like weâre getting more people in the group chat lately.â you said over voice chat.Â
âDo you wanna be a mod?â he asked you to your surprise. âYou could help make rules and stuff and make sure no one says anything inappropriate about Lydia. Or Adam. Only Iâm allowed to say inappropriate stuff about Adam.âÂ
âIâd love to!âÂ

Note: MAJOR thank you shoutout to @sophiascaruso for talking to me endlessly as I threw her questions and ideas while I wrote. This fic is brought to you by my brain that wonât shut up and my now very ready for a break fingers, but also by her unwavering patience and brilliance. She is a blessing.
And a final thank you to @spooky-scary-lesbian for the request! I had no idea it was going to be three parts when she sent it to me. Itâs also long enough that it turns out it couldâve been five or six if I split for length instead of content. But I looooooooooved writing this so much! Thank you!
Part 1 Part 2
ââ
You stepped into Lydiaâs room and shut the door behind you. You looked around for a moment. You loved how it was a perfect representation of her younger years as well as a few things from more recent years.
You set your purse on the bed, trying not to draw too much attention to it. You wanted to give her time to focus on her motherâs locket.
âHelp me put it on?â she asked, standing in front of the mirror.
You walked up behind her and took the locket from her.
You hadnât spent much time in her old room with her before. Not enough to really carefully look at everything. Looking at the dresser in front of her, you noticed a photo of her you hadnât seen before.
She looked younger. Maybe around high school. Not that she looked much older than that, now. She wore a black dress with safety pins along the neckline. Her hair was cut to her chin and, most notably, black. It was a stark contrast from her now: long hair dyed so light blonde it was almost white, with darker roots because she hadnât touched it up in a few weeks, and the owner of a massive collection of sweaters in a wide variety of colors. Sheâd told you before that she only wore black for a long time after her mom died, but she had never mentioned her hair.
âYou dyed your hair black?â you asked.
âIn high school, yeah,â she said. âRight before my momâs funeral. I made the switch from black to blonde the summer before college. It felt like the right time for a fresh start. A physical change to remind me of the person I was becoming instead of who I was. That me will always be a part of me, but I wanted to focus onâŠâ
She trailed off, so you filled in her words. âWho you wanted to become. I get that.â
She gathered her hair in one hand and lifted it out of the way. Reaching around her and through her arm, you clasped the locket behind her neck, and she let go of her hair. It was the little moments like that, the simplest ones, that you loved most.
She brought her hand up to touch the locket.
âI always thought it looked so elegant on her,â she said.
âI think it looks elegant on you, too.â
That made her smile. âDid my dad tell you what it means to our family?â She sat at the foot of her bed.
You sat beside her. âHe said your momâs father got it from his mom to propose to your grandma. And that she passed it on to him when he and your mom got engaged.â
âMy mom said she liked to think of it as our familyâs symbol of true love. I thought it sounded kind of dumb when I was younger, but...I like it.â Her eyes were shining just like Charlesâs did when he talked about Emily. âHe gave it to you at Thanksgiving?â
âHe did,â you said, but you drew your eyebrows together, not sure how she knew that.
âI mean, I knew something was going on. But I had no idea it was this.â
You should have known sheâd be able to put it together. She was always thinking faster than everyone around her.
You laughed lightly and shook your head. âOf course you knew.â
âEveryone seemed too enthusiastic about Deliaâs digestion meditation while you and my dad stayed downstairs. And theyâve all been acting just a little weird since then. I mean, more than their normal amount. I swear, everyone who lives in this house is a horrible liar. Thinking of that and seeing the small jewelry box, I sort of wondered⊠But I know we both hate public proposals. I expected it to be maybe a necklace or something, but this⊠This was the best surprise. And we even got each other the same type of gift. Something that sort of...solidifies our future.â
You almost wanted to laugh. âYeah. We did.â
Then her eyes dropped to something behind you and she seemed very distracted. âYou brought your purse.â
You felt your adrenaline spike. You were pretty sure she couldâve figured it out, anyway, but having just mentioned proposals and your future together, her mind was already there. You could see it in her eyes. She didnât say it, of course. She didnât need to. You knew there would also be a small part of her that was afraid to say it and make you feel bad if she thought you were proposing and you werenât.
But you were. And you were ready. âI actually have one more thing I wanted to give you, but I wanted to give it to you in private.â
You knew there was no point in hiding the box, so you took it out of your purse and held it in your lap.
âA small jewelry box,â she said. Her voice was almost a whisper. You werenât sure sheâd even meant to say it out loud.
âYouâre the most incredible person Iâve ever known. Youâre always ten steps ahead of everyone else because your mind never stops. Iâm biased, but I think you have the best sense of humor of anyone Iâve ever met. Youâre always ready to offer a solution to a problem or help find one. Your compassion is unparalleled. You donât let anyone feel bad for being strange and unusual, if you can help it. You give them someone who will listen. You show them how to view their differences and insecurities as strengths. How their individuality makes them special. You see someone hurting and you jump into action. You understand how they feel, and even when youâre not sure how to help them, you donât stop trying until youâve figured it out. And you donât stop fighting there. You get involved in everything you can that helps other people. And animals. And the planet. You inspire the rest of us all the time. You make everyone around you better, and Iâm honored to be one of those people. To be the one you choose to love, every day.â
She was crying, now, but she hadnât stopped smiling.
âLydia, I love you. I love laughing at the most ridiculous things with you. I love how much we try to look out for each other and protect each other. I love how we push each other to always be the best we can be. I never even imagined I could love someone this much, and I still feel like it gets stronger every day. I want to spend the rest of my life loving you more every day.â
You took a breath, kneeled in front of her, and opened the box. It wasnât quite a gasp, but she let out an audible breath.
âWill you marry me?â
Everything seemed frozen again. Your heart was still pounding, but you werenât nervous anymore.
Through her tears came a distinct, gentle, but enthusiastic, âYes.â She leaned down to kiss you, then enveloped you in a hug.
It felt like an eternity before you broke apart, and you didnât mind one bit.
She held her hand out between you so you could place the ring on her finger.
Youâd done your best to choose something simple, elegant, and her. A silver band. Three little diamonds on either side of a larger black diamond in the shape of an oval.
âItâs beautiful,â she said. âItâs black.â
âBlack diamond,â you said with a nod. âItâs your favorite color. Itâs like your color. And like you said, it will always be a part of you.â
âI love it. I love you.â She pulled you to your feet, gave you another kiss, and another hug. âItâs perfect.â
You leaned your head against hers. You were content to enjoy these moments with her before you went back downstairs.
She began to wipe her tears, then scrunched up her face a bit. âDo you hear that?â she asked.
You listened, but you only heard silence. âI donât hear anythingâŠâ
âExactly. No talking. No laughing. Not even something on the TV. They knew you were going to propose now?â
âYeah, they did.â
She got a mischievous smile and took your hand. She opened the door as quietly as possible. Tapping her finger to her lips, she led you out of her room and down the hall.
The second you reached the top of the stairs, you heard quick shuffling in the living room. You observed everyone as you came down the stairs together.
Charles hadnât moved. Delia was beside him on the couch like she had been before, but she was adjusting herself like she had just sat down, and breathing like she had just run across the room. Barbara and Adam were also in their chairs, but they didnât seem to notice that they had switched places. Beetlejuice had moved, too, but that wasnât unusual for him whether or not heâd been attempting to eavesdrop. And they all had their eyes locked on you and Lydia.
âWhat?â Lydia asked when you hit the bottom of the stairs.
âUh, we were justâŠâ Delia started but couldnât finish.
âPlaying a game,â Adam said.
âYes,â Barbara said. âA game where you have to think. In silence. A lot. About...umâŠâ
Lydia laughed and looked at you as she said, âYou guys really are the worst liars.â
You laughed, too.
She held up her hand and rolled her eyes, but she was still smiling.
Delia and Barbara started squealing, and you were pretty sure Adam was doing something along those lines, too. The entire group rushed over to hug both of you.
You couldnât even tell who was saying what, there were so many variations of âCongratulations!â and âWeâre so happy for you!â flying around.
âWe were so worried when you came down like nothing happened!â Delia said. âWe couldnât hear anything from the stairs.â
âYou guys should know by now my room is basically sound-proof. BJ helped me set it up in high school so I could play music at whatever volume I wanted to.â
âI tried to tell âem,â Beetlejuice said.
Lydia swung your hands and smiled at you, then at the group. âBut it was perfect.â
Everyone started talking at once again.
They had questions, but eventually you and Lydia convinced everyone to watch a Christmas movie.
Charles and Delia brought out all the desserts everyone had made to snack on during the movie.
You and Lydia grabbed a blanket and joined Charles and Delia on the couch. You practically only took one spot, Lydia cuddled in so close to you. She let her head rest on your shoulder. She stayed that way the entire movie, holding onto you like her life depended on it. You made sure to hold her as closely and tightly as you could.
When it was time to say goodbye, everyone congratulated you again and asked when youâd be visiting next.
You and Lydia got back into her car, complete with leftovers from Delia, as usual. Before Lydia started the car, you asked if you could drive by your new apartment. She loved the idea.
She had meant it when she said it was close to her familyâs house. You didnât time it, but you thought it took somewhere between five and ten minutes.
She pointed to a window on the third floor and said, âThat oneâs ours. And thereâs an elevator. Donât worry.â
The building looked really nice. And it looked like a really nice neighborhood, too.
Between the streetlights, house lights still on, and lit decorations in yards further down the block, the street was bathed in light. You knew it wouldnât always look like that, but it felt warm and inviting.
âItâs going to be our home,â you said, reaching over the console to hold her hand. âIt feels like home.â
âAnywhere feels like home with you.â She squeezed your hand. âYouâre my home.â
You turned to look at her, ready to respond, but she scrunched up her nose and shut her eyes.
âI think I was temporarily possessed by a Hallmark movie writer,â she said.
You tried not to laugh. You knew what considering you her home meant to her. But her reaction really was funny, and she was laughing, now, so you laughed along with her.
Once youâd both calmed down, you squeezed her hand just enough to prompt her to meet your eyes. âBut just for the record, youâre mine, too.â
She pulled your hand so she could hold your arm against her, and you both turned back to the apartment.
âWeâre going to live here,â you said. âWith our cat.â
Lydia stared down at her ring, then gave you a big smile. âI canât wait.â

Chapter 3 is UP!
Chapter 3 of the highschool AU is now up at the Link below. Or you can read under the read more.Â
Please feel free to leave kudos or comments because me and lily love all feedback!Â
This story is co-written by @blind-band-geek
Link:Â https://archiveofourown.org/works/20030665/chapters/47465137
To Adam, the date had been amazing, but he knew that it was a one-time thing. When he arrived at school, Barbara would pretend that he wasn't there and life would move on.
Take the L and move on his brain told him, reiterating the advice from his friends. With a sigh, he grabbed his backpack and made his way to school.
After heading to his locker and grabbing his Chem books he was shocked to see Barbara's face poking from behind the lockers.
"Hello!" She said cheerfully, Adams face turning bright red as he slammed it, "I had a lot of fun last night!"
"I...I did too" Adam stuttered, Barbara glanced down at her feet as she took in a breath. It was only then that Adam noticed her nervous demeanor, something weird for one of the most popular girls in school, yet here she stood swaying trying to think of words.
"Would you like to go out again tonight?" She asked and looked up making direct eye contact with Adam. His heart felt like it skipped way too many beats to be healthy yet he was floating on Cloud 9. Barbara's heart pulled a similar trick on her, but she kept her cool, adjusting her body to stop the swaying.
"I would l-" Adams thoughts cut him off.
She's really holding on to this joke,
The date will be somewhere public so she can embarrass you in front of people
She'd never do that.
But she might. Better safe than sorry nerd boy.
"I have DND tonight" he finished, Barbara's eyebrow cocking at the statement.
"I thought you have those on Thursdays? Same as game days."
"Change of schedule!" Adam let out a fake laugh before pausing, "wait⊠you know my dnd schedule?"
It was now Barbara's turn to freeze, how does one explain in a non-creepy way that she loves listening to his conversations about dnd in class because of his passion for the project.
"Lucky guess!" She exclaimed, "overheard a spat between you and another kid one Friday and just assumed."
Adam let out a soft "oh" as the bell for first block rang. Barbara and him began walking together to the class, pushed together by the crowded hallways. In a panicked moment, Barbara linked her arm with Adam's.
Adam's stomach began swarming with butterflies, he was very close to Barbara now. Arms linked as she placed her hand on the upper arm to not lose him.
All just a part of her game. First, she acts affectionately then she embarrasses you in front of the entire school body.
Yet the arm holding is nice, maybe it isn't that bad?
"Oh gosh, I'm sorry!" She apologized, once she realized where her hand was, "I didn't mean to grab your arms without permission."
She quickly retracted her arm and Adam felt a slight pang in his heart. Her face was bright red as the two approached the room.
Adam couldn't help but think of the question posed earlier, another date with Barbara Miller. His heart worked hard at blocking out any of the humiliation risks, Adam felt himself wanting to go on the date with every step. His heart took the sign and forced him to speak.
"I'll go out with you tonight!" He said to Barbara,
"Really?!" Barbara cheered, she jumped in the crowded hallway before coming to a halt, "what about your DND game?"
"I'll reschedule." Adam noticed that her eyes began to fill to the brim with excitement.
"Thank you! You won't regret it. I'll pick you up at 6!" She said as she bolted into the classroom.
"Barbara?" Adam called after her. She stopped for a moment and let out a 'hm'
"We've still got classes together all day." He laughed and she let one out aswell.
"Lucky for me. I won't miss you too much!"
Adam watched as the girl joined her friends, the same friends began taking glances at him and scoffing, turning back to Barbara. They were confused at the fact that the two were even talking.
âAdam!â A whispered voice came from behind the boy, he turned to see Connor staring at him. Adam shook out of his Barbara-Friend trance and joined the kid.
"What's up?"
"How did it go?" He asked, Adam, cocked an eyebrow trying to remember what he was insinuating, "the date with Barbara Miller. I noticed you guys just disappeared from the game. What was that about"
"Well, we went to the field behind the fores-"
Connor's mouth dropped, "No way. There is no way that you. Adam Maitland."
Adams eyes quickly widened at his friend, "No! No, it's not that at all. We just watched the stars. And she gave me her letterman."
Connor nodded, "She's holding on to the joke then."
"Do you still think its all a joke?"
"Dude. You run a DND club and she swims. Its not exactly a match made in heaven."
Adam looked at his feet, feeling dumb for once again saying yes to Barbara's request.
--
Barbara joined her friends at the desk and noticed them taking glances at Adam.
"Is something wrong?" She asked as she sat down,
"We're just shocked that you're being this mean. It's unlike you."
Barbara tilted her head, slight panic coursed through her veins as she tried to think of what she did wrong.
"I mean asking Adam out as a joke was rough enough but talking to him this morni-"
Barbara interrupted without thinking,
"It's not a joke?" Lauren scoffed at her comment,
"Come on!"
The rest of the group laughed as Barbara bit her lip in sadness. Lauren's eyes widened at her friend, she frantically grabbed her arm and pulled her aside.
"This is legit not a joke?" She whispered to Barbara,
"It's not. I actually like him" Barbara whispered back,
"Oh my god. You actually like nerd kid."
"His names Adam. And also I've told you before"
"I thought it was a joke!" Lauren exclaimed in a whisper, "okay I can support this but I don't think anyone's gonna believe you."
Barbara sighed,
"Its doesn't matter. I've got another date with him tonight"
"Shit that's fast. Where?"
"I didn't think that far."

âGifted with immense talent, and cursed with a temper to match, Ginger Baker combined jazz training with a powerful polyrhythmic style in the worldâs first, and best, power trio,â said the Rolling Stone article. âThe London-born drummer introduced showmanship to the rock world with double-kick virtuosity and extended solos.â

Lewisham-born Baker was known for being a mercurial and argumentative figure, whose temper frequently led to on-stage punch-ups.
His father, a bricklayer, was killed in the Second World War in 1943, and Baker was brought up in near poverty by his mother. He joined a local gang in his teens and when he tried to quit, gang members attacked him with a razor.
Baker suffered from heroin addiction, which he acquired as a jazz drummer in the London clubs of the late 1950s and early 1960s. He once told The Guardian he came off heroin âsomething like 29 timesâ.
Tributes for the drummer have been pouring in on Twitter.
Paul McCartney called Baker a âwild and lovely guyâ, writing: âWe worked together on the âBand on the Runâ album in his ARC Studio, Lagos, Nigeria. Sad to hear that he died but the memories never will.â
Baby Driver director Edgar Wright wrote: âRIP the music giant that was Ginger Baker. The beat behind too many favourite songs from Cream, The Graham Bond Organisation and Alexis Kornerâs Blues Incorporated.â
Rock journalist Mark Paytress tweeted: âLike Hendrix, Ginger Baker was a name synonymous w/ early days rock. Once you heard him play, saw pics & footage, he seemed to embody the musicâs power, the cultureâs adventure. Spending a day w/ him in 2014 magnified it all. Lost a big one this morning.â
Slipknotâs Jay Weinberg simply wrote: âThank you Ginger Baker.â
