8.) How did you get into the Outsiders?

Ok so real funny story actually. I first read the book when I was in probably 6th grade 'n was one of only a handful to pick to (we had a couple options). 'N for a while man I wouldn't talk about nothin' else. It's real funny to me 'cause I can remember at the time I was significantly younger than Pony 'n I thought his logic was so sound. I truly thought Darry was AWFUL. God, times change man. Then probably five months ago or so I ran across one of them text posts put on Pinterest about the outsiders 'n thought man I haven't read that book in forever. I ran STRAIGHT out to my local bookstore to get it 'n then in the parkin' lot I thought hey I wonder if anyone's put together any Outsiders playlists 'n ran across the soundtrack. It really was one of those delightful moments where you rediscover somethin' from childhood 'n think you know what yeah. Eleven year old me was really onto somethin' here.

1.) Dallas is a goddamn son of a bitch picky eater. He becomes SO indignant when Darry tries to force him to eat vegetables. 'N Darry is always baffled 'cause Soda 'n Pony are like vultures 'n will eat anythin' not nailed down. Meanwhile Darry's pullin' the 'you can get up from that table when your fuckin' plate is CLEAN' 'n they're on hour SIX.

2.) Johnny is a little SHIT. It always surprises Pony 'cause he's babygirlified him so hard but Johnny has it in him to be so feral. He learned how to hold a grudge 'n promptly used his deceptively big wet eyes 'n pathetic demeanor to get away with SO much.

3.) Most of the gang are drama FIENDS. Pony 'n Darry ADORE a good shit talkin' session. Dallas has his nose in EVERYONE'S business so he's always showin' up with some gossip. Steve pretends he doesn't care but he is just as nosy 'n he NEEDS those details. (Soda is the only one who could not care even a little)

4.) Steve is so deeply invested in NASCAR 'n Soda is entrenched in the rodeos. Neither of them much care for the others Thing but you better BET Soda is always right there in shotgun for all of Steve's drags 'n keepin' him company while he fixes up his beater 'n Steve is in the FRONT row every time Soda rides

5.) Darry loves the Beatles. He is an adamant Beatles defender. Good lord he is fightin' for his life every time they come on the radio 'cause the rest of the gang thinks Elvis is tuff 'n the Beatles are grandma rock. But Dallas. OH man one day Darry catches Dallas singin' absently to one of their singles 'n he's instantly like YOU. Dallas REFUSES to admit it 'n Darry won't rat him out. Mutually assured destruction.

I was contacted by Nader to draw pictures for and help spread his brother Abdulsalam Al-Anqar’s fundraiser to save their family. Nader is a 17 year old boy who lives in Gaza with his family: parents Ahmed (54) and mother Iman (49), brothers Abdulsalam (26), Mohammed (14), and Omar (21) and Abdulsalam’s wife and their one year old daughter Iman. Imagine it was your sibling, your friend, your son, who should be in school or with his friends, who instead has to hide from bombs and ask for help online to save his family. His family have suffered through one year of genocide. All of you are their hope to get to safety.

Abdulsalams daughter Iman is only one year old and has lived most her life in a war zone. She is suffering from malnutrition. It’s every fathers worst nightmare to see their child starve and not be able to feed her. Please help him feed his daughter and get her to safety. No child should grow up hearing the sound of bombs. Every child has the right to food and safety. You can help give Iman the childhood she should have, where she can sleep in a safe bed at night with a full stomach.

Their father Ahmed has cancer and needs surgery and medication. It is not possible to get the treatment he needs in Gaza. every day his illness is left untreated, the cancer will continue to spread through his body, so he very urgently needs money for treatment and travel. If you help them get to their goal, you are saving their fathers life. Don’t let this family who have already lost so much lose their father, husband, and grandfather

Nader has showed me pictures of this explosion close to them, thankfully they were able to get away. Every day they stay in Gaza their lives are at risk from israeli bombs. Every day and hour counts. I know there are compassionate and kind people who are willing to help. every euro helps, YOUR donation will bring them one moment closer to safety. With love and hope I’m asking you to give what you can, I believe in the kind people of the world and I beg you to not let them die. If you can’t donate, please share so it may reach people who can.

Never forget that palestinians are not numbers on a list of deaths. Please think of each of them, think of their names and faces and know that you can help them. I think of them every day. I think of the hopes and dreams they should achieve, I think of their education, their future, and the love they show when they work hard every day to get help. You may feel powerless to stop this genocide, but you have the power to save Abdulsalam and his family. I dream that the day will come soon where they may use their days to rest and recover from what they’ve been through, where they can share a meal and laugh and the children will play, instead of having to use their time to beg the world to listen and help them. I know i’m functionally a gay DARE officer at this point but I do in fact feel some sort of way about Cocaine being back in vogue. Surely I sound like a square + narc and I’ll concede ok do whatever you want, nobody can materially stop another person from using drugs if they really want to 🤷🏻 I don’t really care that it’s hip to do party drugs, moreso I want to articulate a general level of caution and concern that I never see a sidecar of harm reduction and safe using practices along with the commonplace clips of people straight up snorting coke I’ve seen for “brat summer!!!1!!”

You 🫵 are not immune to ingesting fentanyl or any number of other additives. Do you think drugs at the gay club are different than the drugs people are taking under bridges and in gutters? I promise they’re not! So if you want to use drugs and continue being alive, do your part to be safe. Protecting yourself protects others and your community.

Do not accept drugs from strangers. Test your drugs with fentanyl test strips. Carry narcan and know how to administer it. Never use alone. Have an exit strategy if you’re using drugs in a public space. Know the contact information for your local harm reduction groups, overdose emergency hotline, and if you need/want it, addiction treatment orgs. This is all the bare minimum for community care if you intend to be out in the world using drugs. Mainly I encourage you all to be buzzkills if it means you don’t have to die of an accidental overdose. Overdose is the leading cause of death for Americans under 40. I have a whole lot of social workers in my network and however bad you think the synthetic opioid crisis is, it’s worse. The war stories I’ve heard from my people on the ground are… The shit of nightmares. Don’t let it be you or anybody you love.
