Whumpay - Promises (M(T)PJ:DD)
My (Twisted) Pokémon Journey Snippets Masterlist
Prompts:
Day 29 - "I won't let them hurt you anymore."
Day 30 - Nightmares
1.2k words under the cut.
I have done a LOT of Italian homework in the last few days and I apparently thought a good way to decompress was to participate in another of the Whump Month Challenges for a hot second, that being @whumpay!

This is a part of the fourth/fifth book of Crystal's story, Ditto Defect. The long and short of it is that Crystal can use Transform, she starts having ~issues~ with controlling it, and she is found out. This is set in Unova, but touched on past events (from her current moment, it is considered the past). I have snippets of DD so it's a bit more random with organization.
Crystal’s world had been reduced back to an observation chamber in the P2 Laboratory, stuck in the familiar form of a Ninetales instead of her own body, but this time, it wasn’t Team Plasma scientists who visited her.
     It wasn’t even a human.
     This time, Dusknoir – The Great Dusknoir, Primal-Dialga’s-right-hand Dusknoir, Dusknoir from the Future – haughtily, leisurely, levitated into view.
     “We didn’t even need to do anything, and you were served to us on a silver platter.”
     Crystal didn’t know who us included, but she glared at him – glared like she did before, at the Stockade. Glared like Grovyle and Celebi were there to back her up. Glared like she wasn’t trapped in the very place that sucked out every ounce of hope and replaced it with gallons of dread.
     He continued, “You refuse to become a weapon—”
     That’s not Dusknoir.
     “—but we have ways to arrange that.”
     That’s not Dusknoir’s voice.
     “You’ll wish we gave you something to do, but, alas,” he shrugged and gave her a pitying look. It quickly turned into a sneer. “You continue to resist, so we need to alter the stimulus.”
     Is Dusknoir using Sebastian’s voice?
     Dusknoir’s form started to shift, the dark colors gave way to the white of a lab coat, and his bulky form thinned into the shape of a human. Sebastian.
     “I’ll let you be for now,” he said with another sneer. “We’ll get to the tests soon enough, but... well, isn’t the human mind such a scary thing? You won’t have sentient thoughts, soon, but while you do, we’ll use those against you. We’ll use everything against you,” he promised, relishing in the threat. “I want to see what you’ll use against yourself.”
     He strolled out of view, as casually as he had come.
     Crystal took a step forward—
     Something solid pulled around her neck, and she heard the clink, clink of chain links behind her. She turned and saw a chain leading from a hook on the wall to the back of her neck. She couldn’t see the collar, but she knew it had to be there – she reached up, finding a few things dangling, as if they were charms or tags for non-battling Pokémon companions.
     One of them burned red-hot. Crystal jerked her paw away, and saw that the fur had burned away and singed on the edges, burning even the skin. I’m a Ninetales, I should be immune to fire damage and burns like this with Flash Fire.
     But the singed fur started spreading – slowly at first, but noticeably. It turned an ashy grey, then darkened to charcoal, a burning heat following.
     The burn started glowing a golden-orange color, searing away the skin with a molten intensity. Something poked through – even in the pain, one train of thought managed, Crystalline. Unfamiliar.
     Finally, it burned through her mane – whatever hung off of her collar, it burned through the fur, and she could finally smell burning flesh and fur. And something pushing through the skin.
     Crystal doubled over and saw the crystal on her paw growing, actively growing, turning into a sharp spike of molten pain. Fire raced through her veins, all of it starting from the burn on her chest or her paw.
      “I won’t let them hurt you anymore.”
     The soft voice, the calming voice, soothed the fire she should have been immune to. She glanced up, still in pain, but it had started receding to a dull throb of heat.
     N watched her, concerned. He had opened the door to the chamber, he had a key in hand. “I’m going to set you free.”
     Memories surfaced – memories of emotion. Betrayal. Distrust. Fear. Anger. Fear. Anger. Fight or flight – she couldn’t run, not with the collar. Her fur started bristling in warning, she bore her fangs at him as her own fire raced up her throat, burning it with the golden flames. Her summoned Will-o-Wisps met N, and he halted.
     “Crystal, it’s N. Do you remember me?” He studied her, worry in his eyes. She could se him thinking, What did they do to you?
     I remember you. You are why I’m trapped here. You’re why I am like this.
     “Something’s wrong. We can fix it after I get that collar off.”
     Crystal growled louder.
     Then she blinked, and it was her brother – Kevin? – standing there with the key.
     “Let’s hurry and get out,” he said. “I don’t like those crystals.”
     An ever growing urge began inside, Crystal’s vision pulsed as she stared at Kevin’s neck – fixated on his jugular veins, the pulse she could hear, almost feel.
     He turned the key, unlocking the collar. She felt it come loose, but the burning only grew and spread, even as she left behind whatever had started it.
     “Come, we must go before they return.”
     That voice wasn’t Kevin.
     Crystal looked up and saw N, this time in his kingly regalia.
     She lunged at him, reaching for his throat with her teeth. She wanted the warm blood, she wanted his lifeforce, she wanted him dead. She wanted revenge. Someone else should pay for what they’ve done.
     She blinked again— and Kevin’s eyes, terrified eyes and his horrible blood spilling out of his throat, his hands reaching up and only coming away bloody.
     She couldn’t meet the betrayal in his eyes, couldn’t watch the life leave his eyes.
     Crystal knew when his heart stopped. She knew when he died.
     Looking back at the body— it was N.
     Footsteps sounded from outside the chamber, and Kevin walked into the bloody, gruesome sene.
     The two of them locked eyes – and Kevin hurriedly backed out and shut the door, the lock clicking into place.
     The burning stopped. The crystals fell out, leaving gaping holes in her chest and paw – one spilling more blood than the other, as it mixed with N’s.
     “There’s no saving you from this,” Kevin said, pointing at N’s body. “I won’t let them hurt you anymore – but you can’t be allowed to li—”
Crystal shot awake in her bed, heart pounding, phantom burns on her chest and hand. She hurried out of bed, down the hall, looking for Kevin’s room. Once she got to it, she opened the door slowly, listening.
     She heard slow, rhythmic breathing. Light snores. The blankets moved as he shifted position. Thank Arceus, you're alive. She quietly closed the door, focusing on breathing slowly to calm her heart.
     The dream slowly released her, the emotions receding as she re-oriented herself in reality.
     Soft footfalls on the carpet caught Crystal’s attention, her adrenaline ramping up again—
     “Syl?” her Sylveon said quietly, slowly approaching. In the near-darkness, Crystal could see Sylveon’s ribbon-like feelers reaching toward her.
     She reached out to Sylveon, and the feelers gently wrapped around Crystal's arm. “I’m okay,” she whispered, walking back toward her room as Sylveon fell into step beside her, guiding her.
     Crystal doubted that Sylveon believed her, but at the same time, Sylveon couldn’t outright interrogate her, either. I just need your comforting presence and to go back to sleep.
     She settled into bed, Sylveon curling up against Crystal, her feelers loosely draped over her and on her arm.
     It was just a dream. She had to tell herself that, she had to believe it. It was just a nightmare.
     Crystal closed her eyes, focusing on Slyveon’s presence. The lulling warmth contrasted the burning from earlier, a kind feeling and not a fierce one. She relaxed, lulled into a half-sleep as thoughts mixed with memories at random, the kind of liquid chaos a brain makes on its way to sleep.
Oh, my, a voice in her head drawled, sourceless and ethereal. You’re more qualified to torment yourself than I am, aren’t you? You’re much better at this than I am. After all – I was just the spark, so to speak. But the rest? My dear, that was all you.

Volo - Pokemon Legends: Arceus
as soon as volo appeared in promotional material that was it and i was done!!! sold!!! to the highest bidder!!!! being described as "curious" and "always popping up" was already enough.. but then we actually got to meet him and i just love his twist of "oh hes sus" "oh he didn't do anything during the climax i guess he's ok" to "OH HE SUS" was such a fun emotional journey to go on
i wear my hair like volo (save for the eye covering) and i think my business skills have gotten better LOL i do really like his trade of being a merchant.. no better way to attain intel and i think it plays very well into his character as well. even though he feels like he has a bunch of random traits, that makes me think he's quite realistic? he's sneaky, he's a merchant, he's into lore, he's quick and clever, he has a togetic, he has a silver tongue, he survives alone... it just feels like someone who would have actually existed, and even down to his true face it just felt so natural. the only thing i don't like about volo is his clown shoes tho

Take a Moment, Lead My Hand (Ingo/Reader)
Tumblr media
A moment of reprieve gives you second thoughts.
(Notes: Fem Reader, Emmet/Reader/Ingo suggested)
(A/N, I sat on this long enough. This was supposed to be short but here we are.)
word count: 4900
Tumblr media
“Ingo?”
He hums, pen scratching across a document. His eyes are on the page, reading each line carefully, yet his head tilts away from the page just so, towards you.
You fiddle with the strap of your bag sitting between your legs. The dim glow of Chandelure reflects in the black plastic buckles as a faint purple glow while she hangs above your head. A soft aura of whispers mutters sweet nothings into the air as she sleeps. She'd hung herself in the dip where an old chandelier used to be, removed a long time ago before the twins arrived. It was a favored sleeping spot of hers whenever she waited for Emmet to take his shift.
Your own Ghastly had made himself comfortable, resting behind your head in the shade of your hair. The cool lick of phantom flames rolls through your skin, flickering dim shades of violet through thin slits in your hair. Used to it, instead you focus on your hands as they twiddle nervously.
The silence seemed to finally catch his attention. The scratch of ink slowed to a stop as you roll and unroll the woven piece in your fingers, twirling it around a digit and pulling it loose. The question of your name lifts your eyes.
For a moment the two of you lock eyes. He stares at you, frown pulled down further and brow furrowed-a deep shadow coats under the brim of his cap, his silver eyes stark against the near black strip. Your face is no better, pensive, strap curled around your fingers as a bracelet of nerves.
Finally you sigh, dropping your gaze to your hands, “So..” You start with a hard swallow, “You know that I'm going into the champions road tomorrow, right?” You glance away to sit up straighter, rubbing the unwrapped hand under your nose before going back to fiddling.
Ghastly stirs as he rolls around your neck. A lick of cool violet haze grazes up the side of your neck as the pokemon rolls itself upright. He's still not quite awake yet and instead chooses to prop his face up against the back of your head.
Ingo's eyes narrow in thought as he hums, “Yes. If I recall correctly you'll be off to your destination in the morning. Is there something wrong?“
Your eyes flick to him for a moment before dropping back to your hands, ”It;s…well.“ The strap tangles up in your fingers, wrapping too tightly before you sigh sharply and tug it loose, ”I've gone through the single and double lines a lot. Don't think I'll be needing to do it again.”
“Yes you have. In fact you've also gone through the multiples line quite a few times too. A disturbing amount when I think about it.“ One of his hands raises to press his fist against his chin as he glances towards the file cabinets behind his desk, ”Last I checked, you've gone down the Singles 23 times, Doubles 19, and Multi line at 15 times. The only reason you stopped the multiple was due to conflicting schedules.“ He looks at the clock on the wall, ”Because of tomorrow, even.“
You nod, ”Yeah. Yeah sounds right.“ You swallow, palms slick on the belt. It starts to twist more around your fingers as your attention drifts more inward. You aren't looking at the straps of the bag, you're not feeling the slow cold chill rising up your neck. You're not noticing anything beyond the curdling in your stomach slowly rising up into your chest and turning into a bad case of heartburn.
The champions road. The final stretch of your journey as a pokemon trainer. It's been a long time coming, over a year counting today. By this time last year you started as a rookie, collecting your starter from the professor to head out into the world. It was odd how a young woman like you hadn't at least tried to be a trainer in your youth, but you simply couldn't find the time. School, moving and the struggles of adult life filled the days and any free time you had was spent trying to calm down before going back in to start all over again. Becoming a pokemon trainer had just slipped right by.
And then-
Your name rumbling in his low voice snaps you out of your thoughts again. Startled you look up with a sharp, “Huh-?”
Ingo had left his desk. Instead, he now kneels just before you, hand over a thigh as he sits on one knee. The persistent frown is tilted down further into a concerned scowl as he looks you over, “You seem to be unable to remain on your tracks. I have been trying to speak to you for the past few minutes but you haven't answered. Is there a complication on your rails?“ His head tilts, silver eyes flickering over your face carefully.
It takes you a moment to decipher exactly what he meant but once you do your eyes immediately flit away, ”Um, yeah uh, just distracted.“
Those deep, intense eyes narrow, ”Are you sure? That seems to be an understatement, given you have been tangling your hand into your bag strap for the past half hour now.“
You look down at your hands. He's right-your hand is firmly entangled in the strap to the point the pressure is cutting circulation to your fingers. The numbness makes you cringe as you tug at the knots that somehow formed despite you having been wrapping it around your palm in circles, ”Oh I did not want to do that-shit it's on there, isn't it? Crap-shit-ack! How does it knot up like this when I wasn't trying to make it do that!?“ You angrily mutter to yourself while trying-and failing-to unknot the betraying piece of woven polyester and plastic now knit right into your flesh like a tumor.
While you flailed about in attempt to finagle the thing off Ingo sighs. A larger, warmer hand takes the one trying to dig into the knots and pulls it away, ”Stop your gears, you're making it worse. Pulling on it haphazardly isn;t going to unravel a tangle this bad.“ He takes your wrapped up hand in his free one, the other rubbing his thumb into your palm before letting go to pull on a particular loop in the knot, ”You must start where the loose string leads into the knot. There you can find where it pulls out, then repeat until the tangle unravels itself.“
He spends some time tugging you loose from the tangle you'd placed yourself in. You couldn't look him in the eye-he'd only been watching from the side recently, you were the one who got yourself into this mess. It was your inattention, your lack of control that forced him to intervene. He could be doing his work but you had dragged him into your mess instead.
Was this how your battles went? Is your control that bad? Were you so lacking in such a basic skill that your own team had to step in to fill in the blanks? So many times had your Ghastly acted without your command, your Hypnos firing moves before you could speak. Was it because they knew how useless your skills were and they were acting in your stead-?
The sharp bark of your name rips you out of your thoughts and you look up directly into silver eyes. Ingo had leaned in closer, the brim of his cap brushing over your forehead at his proximity. A rush of his scent hits your lungs-something warm, refreshing as a summer's day, sparking with a heat like a spiced dish that could only be whatever soap he used to shave that morning. Yet it retained a soothing undertone, calm as rain, something you could only describe as Ingo.
Once he was sure he had your attention he sighed, looking back to the knot on your hand, ”It has been quite some time since you started this track, hasn't it?“
You blink, ”Huh?“ Is all you can say-the sudden tone shift had you reeling again, already off kilter from your own mental spiral, “W-What do you mean?” You try to collect yourself, focused on how his fingers worked the strap around your palm.
“The Championship. You've been building steam to this destination for a long time, correct?” At your dumbfounded nod he continued, “Your efforts resulted in you completing the other gyms within a year, building your team, all during your routine career at the post office. Am I correct?“
”Um.“ Your eyes flit around, trying to figure out why he was bringing this up, ”Yeah. I-uh-had a lot of trouble since the post office always had other trainers around sending letters out, so I had to-um-do my training late at night-“
“After hours. Usually in the dark, with only Ghastly as your lantern, yes?” He interrupts you as he unravels your wrist, “I may not have trained one myself, but I know their light isn't as strong as a Chandelure's or Lampent's. It must have been a struggle to see what your pokemon were doing with such poor lighting conditions.“
Your face scrunches in confusion, “No it wasn;t, but Match did his best to keep the light going. It took a lot out of him to make sure that I could see out there so late.” Matchstick must have finally been awake, as a cool lick of flame rolled up your scalp in the way he used to pseudo-pat your head. You glanced over while he rolled over a shoulder with a yawning wail.
Ingo watched the pokemon unfurl himself from your hair with a slow blink. The shadow over his face heightened the depth of his eyes, making them pools of silver in blackness-like stars in the night sky. A fervent lavender glow flickered in his gaze as the pokemon hovered closer, insatiably curious of all manners human.
You too watched your teammate bobble up to the subway boss with interest, ”Is…Why are you asking me about that? Didn;t I tell you about it a while back?“ You ask, nibbling your lip nervously.
”Yes. You did tell me once, a long time ago now. Before we officially linked cars, even.“ If he noticed you blushing he didn't say anything about it as he finally unwinds your hand. With the strap now safely removed he sets it aside and turns his attention to the ghost putting around his shoulder. A glint of lavender bathes his pale features in it's ghostly glow as his hands come up under the ghost as if to hold him, just below his spectral flame, ”You also spoke of Harken, how his psychic abilities keep him the main offensive car on your track. Is he still training with Haxorus? I have yet to see him in combat recently.“ He relays the whole of his thoughts while running gloved hands underneath Match's flames, as if inspecting their intensity.
You glanced at the bag now sitting on the chair beside his desk, “Yeah, well, I don't use him much for the battle lines. I don't want him distracted-not that the battle lines aren't good for training!” He raised a brow at your frantic waving, not pulling his gaze away from the fire for a moment, “I-it's just, well, I can't have him being too worked up for the championship. Because, I mean, you've seen how he gets when facing Haxorus. Sometimes I'm worried he's going to tear the train apart.”
He hums, “Yes I have. But I wouldn't put so little faith in him to lose control like that.” He turns Matchstick over in his hands, the pokemon rolling around like a queuball with little murmurs of enjoyment, “He wouldn't dare destroy your house if he was training in the backyard, would he?”
You blink, pausing the nervous scratch on your neck,“No? He's-He's never done any damage anywhere he wasn't supposed to. Why are you asking-“
”And what of Switchblade? Has he still decided to revolt against you or did he gain control over himself once he understood your intention? I've heard Bisharp are difficult to control once they evolve, and I am sure you aren't a weak trainer and can correct his course from that track, yes?“ Ingo simply ran over you with his words. He wasn't even looking at you, intent to study Matchstick's flames as if he was a crystal ball.
An annoyed puff blows away a strand of hair, "Yes, of course he did. I'm the one who told you he gave up last year and even started training with Havok." Why was he even talking about this? It was old news, half of it he even knew before you did so why was he talking like you were too stupid to figure it out.
"Speaking of, Havok hasn't been giving you trouble anymore has he? Banette are notorious for being troublemakers, no doubt you've struggled to keep her in line during battle before." His voice was insufferably patient. He didn't look at you at all, still inspecting Ghastly like he'd find something wrong, a fracture in his core or flicker in his fire.
Frustration welled in your chest. He was a master of ghost types in his youth, most of those skills he'd passed onto you when you met. It was him who inspired you to grow after a chance encounter during his disembark of the Singles line. The crowds had been especially dense that day, but they parted like an ocean tide as he passed you, grey eyes flicking to the erratic dance of your Ghastly while you stood in the middle of the crowd like an idiot trying to get him to stop circling you. He spoke with you about how Ghost types were an unruly group that needed special care and training, too little would leave them with too much energy.
He did admit later that he was a bit uncouth with how he simply butted into your affairs without warning, but you'd embraced it-though you did get mad at him for calling you out. He was right, you weren't training him because he was your first pokemon, a gift from your grandfather after he passed. You had no idea what you were doing, barley able to keep him in his ball without a fight. It was Ingo who'd taken him aside for one moment, seemingly listening to his rambling whispers before he turned to you again to say that he simply didn't like his pokeball.
The way Ghastly looked at you made you more mad. Of course even a placid grin could look at you like you were the idiot here.
From there he'd introduced you to his twin, then the battle lines. He helped you understand your partner better than anyone else-not through words or guidebooks. but action. While he didn't make you take either battle line, he did give you his number and schedule you to meet up with him later for a mock battle. He didn't have more than one pokemon on him then and he didn't even have to try to knock out your own.
But he didn't just move on. He stayed. He helped you figure out how to use your pokemon in battle, what his moves meant, how to assess the battlefield. Your continued meet ups meant more time together, leading into him helping you catch Havok, a Hypnos that had decided to battle you before he'd gotten there. It was him who told you why Havok attacked you, that pokemon sometimes attacked trainers because they recognize their strength and want to become stronger themselves.
Without him you wouldn't have been convinced to even try to be a pokemon trainer. He'd given you everything to start working on your confidence to even begin wondering how to conquer his line let alone the trails of a pokemon trainer.
Now he was acting as if you knew nothing again. Like all the progress you'd made was gone in the instant you sat down, that if he looked hard enough he'd see the dimness in Ghastly's flames showing a lack in power only a poorly maintained Ghost type would have. He was acting like you were some child he'd just met who didn't even know their own pokemon's abilities outside of strength.
Frustration boiled into anger. You spent so long getting to this point. All the hours, the days spent in the rain out on trails looking for pokemon to spar with, the nights where you'd let them pummel each other under cover of darkness to vent out their frustrations. Years battling your own self worth until it somewhat looked presentable enough to be blown into a facsimile of confidence-now here he was trying to pull it down from the bottom like a house of cards. You'd heard of the subway bosses being cruel, and Emmet you could see, but never would you imagine that Ingo would stoop to this level of meanness.
Rage boils and boils until it has nowhere to go. In your anger you knocked your pokemon right out of his hands to make him look at you, ”What are you even talking about!? I'm not stupid, I know how my pokemon work! Why would you even say that!?" Worked up as you were a flush of heat rolled up your neck, straining over your eyes like a migraine ready to pop as you jabbed a finger into his chest while he just stared at you blankly, "Do you think I can't control them?! Do you think I'm still some wannabe trainer who's barely got her feet wet?! Is that it-!?”
He snatched your hands in one of his own before you could continue, “Then why do you have such little faith in your team? You trained them, as you said, what makes you think they're incapable?” He holds your wrists together with a forefinger and thumb like a shackle to him, brow raised as he sharply leans into your space.
You startle at his gall. Deep, intense silver eyes glare from beneath the brim of his cap, cutting you to the bone and robbing you of your anger, “Um. I-I'm not-”
“You believe they aren't able to accomplish the goal you set. To ignore the efforts they take to complete their training to give you the best they have to offer, working in the dark with dim light, fighting against stronger opponents-is an insult to everything they do for you." His voice is like a sharp cold wind, shoving you towards the drop off the cliff you'd made from false bravado. With each word he tugs you closer to the edge. A sea of doubts and fears laps at your feet, coalesced from years of bottling and tossing them to the deepest reaches of your soul until this moment.
“But-I-” You floundered, struggling to hold onto the precipice he now dangled you off of, “I-I'm not doing that! I just don't think we're ready! If we don't make it this year then next year I'll-”
“And have all that you worked for mean nothing?” Again he shakes you by the wrists, gently but firmly enough to return you to the present, to his biting words that shove you closer into that deep abyss, “You drive them to train in strenuous conditions and retake our battle lines. What is the effort for if not to take them to the destination you've shown them? If it's not in their reach, why have them chase it? I will tell you, it is not from lack of training.“
And he leans in further, face stern, eyes narrowing as his voice drops to a mutter, “The very station you set to reach is out of your grasp, not because your pokemon are not ready, but because you simply are too afraid to leave the one you've come to.”
You balk. A cold flush dropped into the pit of your stomach as he pushed you off the cliff you'd failed to grasp. He was right-how long had you been at this? How many days had you driven them to train until none of them could stand anymore-how many of those days were you worn out yourself? The amount of times you'd taken the battle lines would make even the most seasoned trainer blush in embarrassment by now. How would anyone think they weren't ready for the challenge?
You could. Years of bottling up insecurities, ignoring the painful sting of defeat with the lie of maybe getting better-the consequence of paranoia it caused. Sure, you could grow as a trainer, strengthen your bonds to your pokemon-but it couldn't wash away the growing panic inside as the possibility of Champion drew closer and closer.
And now it was almost reality. All the fears, little paranoid dreams of failure and mockery were at the surface. You covered the water's mirror face with as much bravado and excuses as you could find. It would be easy, just a few more rounds to be sure. The training was almost done, but one more train ride would be just enough to finish it. Just one more day, one more training session, one more battle line win.
Everything-anything to avoid the reality that you might fail. And everything you worked for would be for nothing. Years of training, wasted on the truth that you were and always had been a failure.
It was too much. His intense eyes, his frown deepened. You couldn't look at him any longer, bowing your head while biting your lip. And you stayed like that, him staring at you while you simply sat there like a scolded child from overthinking yourself into a stupor.
Matchstick warbled in the air beside your ear. Wherever you'd smacked him to he must have just now got back, being a slow flier and all. Your gaze shifted to him while his black eyes seemed to study you silently. He wasn't even phased from your smack-he'd always been real sturdy. Whatever conclusion he reached his cold flame crackled into your hair as he tilted his face into your cheek with a soft murmur.
Tears threatened to fall. The tight ball in your chest unraveled just a bit. Ingo lets your wrists go as you reach up to hold the ghost closer to you, ”It seems Match has heard what you were worried about. Not a subtle thing, is he?“ The light amusement in his voice slowly pulls you out of your self contained misery.
It was really stupid when you thought about it. He was right-you had worked with them for years now. Maybe you hadn't meant to get into the championship initially, but hard work had gotten you this far. They gave you everything they had, breaking themselves to pieces to become what you needed.
He was cruel about how he worded it, perhaps, but he wasn't incorrect. It was just his way of reminding you of what really mattered-making the attempt with everything you had. Even if you didn't win, would it really matter if your team had given you their all? Would it matter if you'd spent so much time fighting, training, growing together just to make it here?
You can feel his stare on your face before he softly sighs, ”(Y/N),“ He mutters, voice gentle, ”I know you are afraid. This is quite the large step in your tracks and many have fallen before they reach it, but you have. You spent so much time training, learning and befriending your pokemon until they oiled their gears as a team. Their cars are linked to yours as you lead them into a bright future, one where they can stand at the highest peak and be the best of Unova-if only for a while.“ The edges of his hard frown lighten, turning upwards just a bit, ”Without you, they'd still be wild. Fighting on their own with less of a chance to evolve. Yet here they are, at the top of their game and able to break Emmet's record of losses-something I still hear about.“
You stifle a snort as he laughs under his breath. The image of Emmet grousing to his twin about losing is always a spectacle-last time he complained for an hour straight. Mostly because you'd won more than three times in a row and he was still sour, which he told you to your very smug face.
His smile softens as he sets a hand on your knee, ”(Y/N), as subway bosses we are aware of one singular truth, we cannot be the best in every battle. To win every time is to lose everything-one cannot learn to grow stronger by accomplishment alone. Avoiding loss is to avoid crucial knowledge that could send you to your next destination on the track of your life.“ He reaches back to your bag as he takes your hand, setting it at your feet ”So please, don't be afraid to fail. This is an important accomplishment to gain, but, it isn't a crime to lose either.”
You look down to the strap he sets in your hand. You rub your thumb into it in thought-maybe you had been overthinking it for too long. Was it the championship? Sure, but who else besides you had tried it, who else had been in the same place as you? Probably plenty of other people had won or lost, but in the end it didn;t matter, did it?
Emmet said it once. It's just a title on a piece of paper.
You snort a bit, “I guess you're right. It's just-well,” A bit of redness warms your cheeks as you fiddle with the strap again, not wrapping it around your hand this time, “I'm just stupid for worrying so much about it.”
“It's not stupid to be concerned of a challenge ahead. You're not stupid for worrying about it either, so don't let your tracks take your thoughts there again.” He gets to his feet, heading back to his desk before pausing, “Erm, and I…well.” Now it was his turn to be bashful as his eyes flicked to you for a moment before darting to the side, “I do apologize if I came across as too much, then. You just worry me when you go down these destructive tracks.”
You try not to snicker as you watch him study his twins desk with forced interest-clearly trying to take notes on organization from Emmet and not to avoid your gaze, “I know. Thank you for worrying. And I'm sorry for losing it on you, I know I've got anger issues.” He hums in acknowledgement as you let Matchstick squirm out of your hand before you stand up, hoisting your bag over your shoulder, “In that case I should probably start stocking up on potions and sprays before it gets dark. The pokecenter closes in a few hours and I'd like to have everyone ready for tomorrow.”
“Ah, yes. That's likely your best option for today.” Ingo adjusts his cap while sitting down, then looks up just as you pass, “But before you go tomorrow, please make a stop at our apartment. I will have something ready for you to take to the championship.”
You turn to him just as you reach the door, “Is it cookies? Did you bake again?”
A small twitch threatens to break his very serious scowl he aims at you, “Very funny. I'll be sure to include your astute review of Emmet's cooking skills in the morning-after he stops complaining about another loss.”
Your grin is smug as a Purrloin, “Can you give him a kiss for me~?”
“You can give it to him yourself when you get there in the morning. Now shoo, I have paperwork to finish and you're distracting.” He waves a gloved hand in your vague direction as he turns his attention back to the papers he'd left behind, clearly a little irked again by what he was reading.
A wheezing laugh whistles through your smile, Match hissing with you just over your shoulder. But before you open the door you make a quick jaunt back to his desk, grabbing his cheek to peck him on the temple, “Later, Ingo. Enjoy all of that.” You wiggle your fingers in the direction of the paper reading 'Time Schedule' while he grumbles under his breath, but you catch the start of a beautiful pink flush over his ears as he tugs his cap down over his face just before you depart with a bounce in your step.
In the morning when you knock on their door you're accosted by a frustrated younger twin who bullies you into the kitchen while the elder hands you a bag of revives and poison cures. His cap aside, button up shirt sleeves rolled up to his elbows as he convinces you to stay just long enough for breakfast. Meanwhile his twin argues that no, a Mold Breaker trait isn't a fair way to battle and is verry much cheating-a leering smile directed at his not at all ashamed brother who just shrugs and tells him to do better.
When Emmet finally is shut up by you pulling him into a kiss, his twin standing silently by your side until you give him the same you set out on the final leg of your journey. Come Hell or high water, you were at least going to try.

pokemon trainer au! gojo x f!reader. reader is a fairy gym leader and satoru is league champion and a flying type trainer. a bit of world building! we discuss fairy gym leader and satoru's first meeting and their future plans a bit. wc 2.6k

Unsurprisingly, the news of the current League Champion stepping down spreads like wildfire and you chuckle while spooning cereal into your mouth and leaning against the counter in your kitchen, Skitty eyeing you desperately from the floor below begging for a bite.
You scoff at her and point toward where her bowl lies a few feet away, full to the brim, and she rubs her tail against your calves while you lean over the counter and narrow your eyes at the TV, chomping on another perfectly soggy mouthful while watching clips of Satoru’s recently televised battles as Champion flash across the screen.
“Damn he’s good,” you mutter to yourself as if it’s a surprise. You know very well how good Satoru Gojo is, it’s why you’ve spent the last three years refusing his requests to battle. He has no reason to battle you other than bragging rights and you know his ego to already be overly inflated even if it is rightfully so and you’ve been satisfied with your decision until now.
You’ve spent two days trying to figure out why he asked you on this journey in the first place, stuffing your long forgotten camping gear and various repel sprays and medicinal sprays in the largest bag that you own while pondering every aspect of why. Why you?
Thinking back throughout the years, you remember every interaction you’ve had with the man fondly. Perhaps it’s the teensy crush you’ve always harbored for him painting the memories as sweet or maybe he is simply sweet beneath the brash and arrogant exterior. People are capable of being more than one thing at once, an important lesson you’ve learned in your life. You met him when you were still going to school and he was a member of the Elite Four, your shock seeing the way he and his Sneasel worked together against a schoolmate of yours was enough to catch his attention.
The two of you were the same age back then, fifteen, but on two clearly different paths - he was destined to become Champion and your own future felt undefined but free, something you’ve always craved.
He winked at you that day in response to your wide eyes and parted lips and you’ve never forgotten it. Not that he’d ever let you, the starstruck look is something he manages to sneak into almost every conversation the two of you have had since. Clearly it had an effect on him too and you’ve been quietly smug about it for a long time.
“And now we have a few words from the Champion himself. Mr. Gojo?”
You nearly choke on the mouthful of cereal you’re working on swallowing, holding your chest while Skitty chirps happily at your near imminent demise. You’ve always been certain she’d be the first to eat you if you were to die so you glance down, shaking your head, before gluing your gaze back to the man on the TV with a glistening grin as wide as the screen he’s upon. It’s a surprise to see him, you were certain he’d let his spokespeople do the heavy lifting, and it does nothing to answer the question on your mind of why he picked you.
He would be infuriating if you didn’t find him so charming. His hair flops over his eyes, big and blue and beautiful as ever, and he is wearing a suit which is something you don’t think he has ever truly done before. You know the PR around this must be a nightmare if they’re hauling him onto daytime television in a suit likely designed by the finest designer in Johto and sheer amusement makes your lips twist into a smile seeing him nod politely to each question he has been asked.
“Thank you for giving me the time to talk about my future plans,” he grins and you scoff, Espeon now joining you by hopping on the counter. You start to fuss at her but stop yourself as soon as Satoru begins speaking again, his head bowed humbly. Whatever he’s saying goes in one of your ears and out the other, your eyes trained on the way his pretty mouth moves instead of what he’s saying, and Espeon chirps at you. You toss her a glance and reach for the remote, turning up the volume to actually listen to the man on the screen.
“How can someone call themselves a Champion if they aren’t rising to every challenge they can?”
Nodding, you’re surprised that’s the public reason he’s giving. Perhaps he won’t mention the travels of the two of you at all and you are his mere escort, someone far more familiar with the routes criss crossing your home of Kanto and the other regions than he is, and if so, you’ll accept that although his pretty mouth looks a little less pretty when you remove the thought that he may have a thing for you as well from your mind.
“I need to challenge myself to be even better, to see this entire world, to experience every Pokemon I can and I’ve invited a friend along with me,” his words fade out when he says your name and mentions Camellia Town, the place you’ve called home for the last five years, and you watch the camera pan back to the surprised expressions of the show hosts. Despite their shock, he continues carelessly and your jaw drops as wide as it did the first day you ever met him.
“If you see us out there, don’t hesitate to stop and ask for a battle! My partner is capable of more than she lets on.”
Almost as if every one of your companions hears him, they all turn toward you and you sigh. Espeon blinks, Skitty begs at your feet, Piplup chirps enthusiastically at your snowy white Vulpix - they’re as ready for adventure as you are and you’ve taken it too easy on them.
“I know, I know.”
Throwing your hands up in surrender, you intentionally ignore the buzzing of your phone on the counter next to you. The screen lights up with messages from your friends and fellow gym leaders, one of your best friends’ names at the top of the screen. You read her messages and snicker to yourself, shaking your head.
Call me now. What do you mean you’re traveling with THE Satoru Gojo?????????
THE Satoru Gojo you’ve whined and pouted over for years?????
Oh this is delicious. I love you. Call me NOWWWWWWW.
Scoffing at the last message, you drag the device to your ear and listen to the dial tone on the other end, only to be met with screeching when she picks up.
“Why didn’t you tell me?!” You groan at her words and hear her boyfriend chuckling on the other end, probably making her breakfast in his cozy little Dark type gym in the city.
Some girls have all the luck and it comes in the form of raven haired gym leaders that think they hung the moon. Others get stuck with arrogant men that have the attention of the entire world on them at all times. You make a mental note to ask her for tips later but for now you play defense, shocked at the tone of your own very best friend in your ear.
“What was I supposed to say? This dude I’ve had a crush on for a decade asked me to go rough it with him?”
“That’s exactly what you’re supposed to say but you don’t talk to anyone about anything ever,” you let her go on a rant and you roll your eyes, pantomiming her words about needing to be better about telling everyone what’s happening with you.
It’s true, you’re terrible about keeping everyone up to date even your own mother who you’re certain is calling you judging by the beeping you hear alerting you another call is coming through, but you figured by this point in your twenties everyone would just accept it. You’re old enough that you won’t be changed and it’s time for everyone to just accept it.
“Okay, well, next time the man you’ve loved for ten years shows up and asks you to run away with him you better call me. I love you!”
You return her admiration, smooching and making kissy noises into the microphone, before immediately ending the call and watching the screen fade to blissful blackness, no notifications for a moment. The television screen pans back to the newscasters who are still buzzing with your name and you know anonymity on this journey is a dream.
Perhaps you should have known better from the start that it would be anything but a normal journey to travel by Satoru’s side but you have always been a little bit of a hopeless dreamer.
Your phone buzzes again and you sigh, looking down to see the name on the screen belongs to the man of the hour himself. Discarding your cereal bowl, you scramble to pick up the phone and press it to your ear.
“Did you see me?”
You snort, shaking your head while Espeon crawls across the counter to eavesdrop.
“I did and you looked great. New suit?”
You swear you can hear how smug he sounds from the other end of the speaker and you roll your eyes for the tenth time in an hour, scooting back from the counter to bend at the waist and press your forehead against it. How are you still reacting to a crush this way at 25?
“Yeah somethin’ stupid they put me in to make me camera ready but I didn’t call for compliments although they’re appreciated,” you hum and giggle, wondering what he could have to say next. “Did you like my little shout out though?”
“No. I’ve been getting calls nonstop for fifteen minutes.”
Gojo chuckles and you want to wrap yourself in the sound like a warm blanket. It drips with his confidence but it’s the most beautiful sound you’ve ever heard and tomorrow’s deadline of his arrival to come get you starts to loom when your eyes fall on your half packed suitcase that is spread across the floor of your living room. To get your mind off of it, you switch gears and raise your brows, cheeks puffing out as you exhale.
“Satoru, can I ask you something?”
He hums affirmatively. His mind wanders a bit to what you could possibly ask or if you’re rethinking your commitment to take this journey with him. Was this morning too much? He has been reminded endlessly his whole life that he’s too much and from everyone else, it doesn’t bother him. From you, it would wound. He has always wondered what you really think of him, not just a fifteen year old version of you in a denim miniskirt with her mouth agape at his abilities.
“Why did you invite me?”
He’s relieved you have no intention of wounding him after all and he plays off his relieved sigh with another chuckle, twisting his mouth to the side in the back of a car driving him from the PokeNews Network headquarters back to his high rise apartment in the city. The last two days have been a whirlwind of nonsense and he’ll be glad when the rush is over and the two of you are finally on the road to wherever the wind will take you next. The city rushes by outside of the tinted window and you wait for his answer, yanking your phone from your ear to scroll through your social media.
“Is it such a crime to want to get to know a pretty girl better?”
That’s the last answer you were expecting and it’s evident by the cough he hears on the other end of the phone. Espeon approaches you and rubs her head against your knuckles and you squint to read the name on the little dark screen.
“If you wanted a pretty girl I’m sure whoever @FlyHighGojo is must be pretty and would love to be by your side for the journey.”
Your eyes scan over the message in front of you eloquently listing out the ways you could never love the former Champion as much as whoever mans this account does and you laugh, swiping the app closed. He tilts his head, smiling despite himself.
“I don’t know what you mean.”
“Your rabid fangirls? They’re currently on my feed in droves and now they know what I look like so I’ll be shocked if I don’t have a crowd outside of my house by the end of the day.”
He sighs, thinking quickly on his feet. There’s no regret about mentioning you, in fact he’s proud he was finally able to do so since he thinks about you all the time, but he does feel bad that the droves are out and seething over it.
“I’ll come get you before they have the chance. Be ready by 5.”
Looking back at your half packed suitcase, you groan.
“Really?”
“Really. We’ll start tonight instead of tomorrow.”
“Okay, but give my question a real answer first.”
Words dance in Satoru’s head yet he struggles to string them together. How can he tell you it’s because he has had a crush on you for ten straight years without sounding utterly pathetic? This is the most powerful man in the League and certainly a figurehead of the culture of your life and that of all humans who love Pokemon, who would he be if he admitted seeing the look on your face that day has haunted him since?
He was in love at first sight, he has just always been too preoccupied to worry about it. Now, it’s all he can think about.
“I’ve always wanted to get to know you better and I’m running out of time to do it.”
He has been League Champion for eight years, unstoppable in every single way, and he’s willing to walk away from it just to spend time with you. Your heart feels so heavy and light at the same time, a lead filled balloon, and his honesty seals the deal.
“Perfect. I’ll be ready for you at five.”
Amusement is all you hear from the other end of the phone, his laughter making you grin. You make him feel so blissfully normal that he forgets to be embarrassed by his slip of his true feelings.
“That’s all you have to say?”
You hum affirmatively, mirroring his own response to your prior question.
“I don’t want to make you sick of me before we even leave so yes, for now.”
Although he thinks it would be impossible for him to ever get sick of you despite the little bit of distance that still remains between the two of you, he appreciates your forethought. This trip is a means to finally win you over, uninterrupted.
“Alright. I’ll see you at five.”
He ends the call with your goodbye and confirmation of the plan and holds his phone to his chest for a moment, shutting his eyes tightly. Most of what he knows about you is secondhand information fed to him by the same friend who just accosted you for your plans with him, the two of them close thanks to her relationship with his best friend. She has filled in every blank he has ever had when it comes to you and he finds himself indulging in imagining you filling in the rest of it during his ride home.
Yes, this is a chance to get to know a pretty girl better but you aren’t just a pretty girl. You’re you. Patient, kind, funny, gracious…he could go on but stops himself, raising a perfectly arched white brow while he looks out the window and into the limitless sky, as blue as his eyes.
It’s time for him to figure out who he is if not Champion and he can’t wait to do it by the side of the most patient person he has ever met.

New Negaishipping AU
A new account means a new au with some new headcanons, as well as some old ones, along with some impressive twists and turns in it.
Like my last au, we're starting at the end of Pokémon Journeys. At age 11, Ash and Pikachu take the road, going wherever the wind takes them. When stopping at a Pokémon Center, Ash sees a notice for an entry battle between Iris and Trip. Seeing Iris in an entry battle scared Ash, knowing that losing to Cynthia dropped Iris down to 8th place in the Masters 8 after he took 1st from Leon. He decided to go to Unova to watch the match, and cheer for his close friend. When he got there, it was already the finale, with the matchup being Trip's Serperior vs Iris's Haxorus. Serperior was starting to squeeze the life out of Haaxorus with Wrap, and Iris began to have an anxiety attack. However, she started to hear the cheering voice of Ash Ketchum from the crowd. She turned, saw him there, and began to calm down, and shared that same energy with Haxorus, who eventually broke free using Poison Jab and later beating Serperior to give Iris the win. After the battle, Iris ran up to Ash and pounced him with a hug. As soon as Ash blushed, he, as well as his Lucario, knew that he had a crush on Iris.
After that, Ash and Iris call each other often while they're traveling in different directions. It gets a little annoying for their Pokémon to listen to them sound awkward towards each other.
Iris's 12th birthday unfortunately happened to be on the busiest day in Unova, so none of her friends or rivals could make it to her birthday party. Well, not ALL of them, as Ash traveled to Opelucid City just for that purpose, and even though he was the only one to come, Ash's appearance made Iris smile. As presents, he gave her a Dragon Amulet that he had Olivia make him back on Akala Island in the Alola Region, he showed off his own Snivy, now a fully evolved and powerful Serperior, and he challenged Iris to a double battle, which ends in a tie, making Ash the first Monarch in the history of the Pokémon World Coronation Series to ever tie in a battle. After this battle was when Iris realizes she has a real crush on Ash.
Not long after, a new Masters 8 Tournament is announced, with the bracket changing slightly. Alain was now the Kalos Champion, with Diantha retiring after that. Marnie was in as well, now as the new Spikemuth Gym Leader, as well Flint (Sinnoh Elite Four Member) and Raihan returning to the ranks. The final results of this tournament were the finals being between Ash and Iris, with Lucario vs Haxorus in the final clash, and Mega Lucario emerging victorious, allowing Ash to keep his title of Monarch.
After the Tournament, Ash and Iris begin to travel together once again, as their journey were far from over. From ages 13 to 14, they have all sorts of adventures, and training Ash's older Pokemon to get stronger and possibly evolve, with Ash's Gible evolving to a Garchomp being their biggest success. Along the way, they stop in Hoenn, where they meet Serena and May, and these three girls that they all became friends when meeting in Hoenn after their starting travels with Ash. This surprises him, and he asks Serena and May to join him and Iris on their Journeys. May sadly declines, as she became the Hoenn Princess and Top Idol, and had duties that kept her in Lilicove City, but Serena agrees to join him. Later, Cilan reunites with Ash and Iris and gets introduced to Serena, who was thrilled at first, but later gets annoyed at Cilan's evaluations. Sure reminds Serena of a certain nerd she traveled with in the past...
From ages 14 to 16 (For Ash, Iris, and Serena. For Cilan, he was just now entering his 20s), Ash, Iris, Serena, and Cilan all travel together and have many adventures together. At one point, Ash decides to go home to Pallet Town and relax. There, Ash introduces his friends to his mom. And all his friends find the peaceful to be more relaxing than city life, which was what they had to live in for a while. During that time, Ash confesses to Iris that he likes her, and they agree to start their dating life together. Little did they know that Serena like Ash as well, and saw their confession, and began to feel jealous and upset. Eventually, Serena decided to confess to Ash, and surprisingly, she didn't get the response she was expecting, as Ash accepted it too. So now, he has two girlfriends. And here comes another twist. After getting her life saved by Iris from a final, ultimate catastrophe cause by Team Rocket, Serena started to have feelings for Iris!!! Eventually, without Ash or Cilan knowing, Serena confesses to Iris, Iris accepts, and the two of them are now dating. Little did they know that Lucario was watching the confession, and through Aura, Ash saw it too, but he wasn't angry, but actually happy, as he saw Serena actually happy, and Iris said she would always be loyal to Ash first. Later, the two girls admit their new relationship to Ash and Cilan, and while Cilan is shocked and a little angry at Iris, Ash isn't, as he admits he saw the confession through Lucario's Aura-infused eyes, which shocks them. Now, we have a three-way tie between Negaishipping, Amourshipping, and Fairdragonshipping. (I know the original word for this, but I'm not using it, because I don't care for it.)
After all three confessions, they all tell their friends and family, with May being the most shocked, as she was friends with Ash, Iris, and Serena equally! from ages 16 to 18 They all have a very interesting dating life ahead of them.
Sometime during their dating life, the three travel with Goh, Chloe, Cilan, and Clemont and Bonnie altogether, and they all have a lot of fun. At one point, Ash gets challenged by Hop, who is now the new Galar Champion. After a fierce clash, the battle ends with Ash and Pikachu using their specialty Z-Move, 10,000,000 Volt Thunderbolt, with Ash emerges victorious. This impresses mostly Iris, but everyone agrees to go visit the Alola region for a while.
For a whole year, when they were both 18, Ash and Iris stay and enjoy the Alola. I say only Ash and Iris, because everyone had to leave to do their own personal things back in their respective homes, even Serena. During her first full year in Alola, Iris meets Ash's Alola friends, becomes rivals with Kiawe and Gladion, becomes an Ultra Guardian member, and receives her own Z-Ring with various Z-Crystals, and catches some Alolan Pokémon of her own.
After their time in Alola, Ash and Iris reunite with Serena. From ages 18 to 19, and this time accompanied by Goh, who is now a professor's assistant in Project Mew, they all travel together again. During this time frame, they are all in Kalos, where with the help of Korrina, Iris and Serena receive Mega Stones for their respective Pokémon. And then, at age 20, instead of Ash being the one to propose, Iris is the one to propose to Ash. And after they recently turn 21, Ash marries Iris. The both of them offered Serena to marry them too, but Serena politely declined, as she was too pleased to see Iris happy with Ash as newlyweds. She promised that she would always love them both, but she ends up marrying Shauna 6 months after Ash and Iris got married. In exchange, Ash and Iris promised that if they have children, Serena would be their godmother, which made Serena cry tears of joy.
There's my new au! I'll post headcanons for each section along the remainder of this year! I hope you enjoy my new au! I know I didn't mention Lucario very often, but he still plays a major role in the au, and I will mention him in the headcanon sets.
To @pokenoire , talking to you and realizing your place in Tumblr inspired me to add some pieces of your passion into it, and I'll keep it up throughout the year. I did include some lesbian Serena bits into you. And yes, even though I said she was dating both Ash and Iris, she started to get more interested into Iris after she got saved from Team Rocket.
To @moonxpalace , please don't hate me or feel disgusted when you read the twists I chose to make with Ash and Iris's dating lives! I was just trying to be creative!

ive definitely said this before but i think there's this common (and understandable!!) misconception that goh is canonically a victim of bullying and tbh i thought the same thing when jn was still airing lol but now that i have gone back and obsessively rewatched every episode a million times i think it's a lot more interesting to consider what the anime shows us, which is...not a kid who is bullied, but a kid who simply has no friends. and it doesn't seem to be a matter of, like, other kids not liking him. even in the very first episode, we see chloe's classmates asking her about him. it's a very casual "oh yeah, he never really comes to school, does he?" like they don't even really think about him that much. but they say his name respectfully, and just seem mildly curious about it. not really like...mocking or anything like that.
i mean, his whole "i don't need friends" attitude when they're younger could stem from bullying. that's completely possible. but the anime never really goes out of its way to make us think that? like...his disengagement in the flashback in the drizzile evolution episode emphasizes that he's refusing to play with his classmates - and that he doesn't even know why. if he were being bullied by them...wouldn't he have been able to at least articulate that he doesn't like them or that they don't treat him well or that they're just no fun to play with? like i won't say that some bullied kids aren't really unwilling to talk about the experience of being bullied...but in hindsight, they usually have a solid idea of what was going on.
in goh's case, i think he's just like...maintaining what he knows, which is the experience of being isolated and alone. he takes control of that feeling by saying he doesn't need - or even want - friends. he's still doing that when he tells ash that he "accepts" him as his friend, as opposed to just...being like, nice to meet you :) and moving on. he needs to be the one who has that say (and in this respect, his whole w-well would you maybe...consider being MY friend too...?? in jn003 is actually kind of...sweet? and indicative of the change that ash has already begun to motivate in him! doubly so considering ash's response is "wait but weren't we friends already?" bc ash is someone who like...doesn't need that verbalization, and doesn't consider friendships as things you "give" and "take" or whatever. they just are!!!).
ANYWAY, all this to say like. i see where the idea comes from, because he does have those little "you're just like everybody else" lines and whatever, and like...his whole thing with horace - his awkwardness in social interactions, like this. overcompensation for something, this need to prove how Smart and Impressive he is (and his fear of being seen as stupid, like in the horace ep when he's like "oh haha...well...you tell me what you know about celebi first. obviously i know this stuff already. i'm just testing you" when he obviously doesn't know it). but to me that's like...a projection, if anything. he's so determined not to acknowledge that his parents' absence has made him lonely, has affected him in any way, that he twists himself into believing the reason he doesn't get along with others isn't because he's too used to being alone to deal with having friends...it's because they're not worth his time, or they're not good enough for him, or they're just going to hurt him anyway. something something pokemon journeys if goh had learned some dbt techniques

Read the first chapter, have some thoughts! Some simple ones before I go on a specific tangent and all!
Tumblr media
As for my tangent, while reading the first chapter of A Heir's Journey but the more I think of it, Kijo kinda reminds me of Lusamine in an odd way. Not specifically here but I shall elaborate of course!!! The game version of Lusamine is absolutely awful but in the anime, she's much more doting, a bit clingy, but she means well despite her flaws. I'd mention Ultra Sun and Moon Lusamine as well since she's also a variant of her character but also like, I didn't play those so I only know so much about how different she is to her other game counterpart. I know she's kinda an awkward middle ground though due to the changes in who the main antagonist is in those games. But, where Kijo comes along in this is, like Lusamine, there are differing variants of him in your fics which I already mentioned the slight variants of characters being cool and interesting and being a sorta mini analysis of the character by showing different facets of their personalities depending on what au they're in. And like, it doesn't help that I am reading The Pokemon AU fic now and got reminded of Lusamine oddly enough. Like, in this fic, I can already feel the lot nicer side of Kijo showing as apposed to other fics that show his calculative side, his more authority-driven side, even his love life and more controlling side of him. And damn it, I will never not find this cool!!! It shows the multifaceted nature of Kijo and how, in some instances, he could even be shown as a good father.
Like, damn it! I don't even know if this will last in this fic or not cus I dunno all the twists and turns QUITE yet, but damn it. Kijo's just lowkey wholesome here. Like, it was actually sweet reading Byakuya saying that he loved his father, even if it was just to get the damn man off his back so he can be cool and do Pokémon trainer shit! I am definitely interested in Kijo in the near future while slowly reading this fic, how the plot progresses, if I'm proven wrong on some things. Silly stuff like that! I really gotta psyche myself up into drawing him more so I can finally get a definitive design and draw him being both a menace to society, a charming gentleman, and of course goofier doodles cus I will never not shitpost! It's too fun heehehe!! Hope this little ramble made sense and I also will be continuing to read this fic of course!! Hell, even if I say I'm not as big into Pokémon anymore, I got too invested as a kid so I'll at least be somewhat of a sucker for it, even if I'm not playing the games or watching the anime anymore!
AAHHH!! I'm really honoured you're taking so much time to think about my silly fics!!
And I suppose that Kijo is kinda like Lusamine. This Kijo would really just be like animated Lusamine tho!
But glad you like this so much. Kijo and Byakuya do just really have a good relationship here... because I could. Byakuya deserves it!
Also happy I managed to convert you!!! The Byakuya &Chihiro friendship is the best, though there are not there yet here. They gotta develop some first! Same goes for Byakuya and the other person in his group!
And it's not like you need to be a huge fan of pokemon to enjoy it, as long as you know it. Like, it helps to know how moves, evelution and that stuff works because I... can't really explain it a lot without it being weird- the characters know this stuff already after all.
But really happy you enjoy reading it :D

What if you had your own game?
"Pokemon Linden: Lavender's Quest"
XD
I've actually had the idea in my head that Lavender could be the "Professor Linden" of a game/region. :)
Going on game logic, I like to think she'd pop up in the protagonist's journey a lot, excitedly doing field work and studying first-hand. My thought is that she'd study types, and how certain Pokemon come come to have unusual types or change their types an interest that is brought up by her dad's change. Naturally, the reveal of her actually being a Mewtwo would be a huge plot twist of a game. XD

Everything's Better with Triplets AU
Aka, a full rundown of my ideal Black and White anime, now as its own post on the Main Tag(tm).
Tumblr media
-The first five episodes go the same as canon, but episode 6 has a twist.
-When Cilan decides to go on the journey, his brothers Chili and Cress decide to go, because they don't want to see their brother get up to shenanigans
-This annoys the Rocket Trio ("oh god, now there are FIVE twerps!")
-Cress and Chili's presence makes a bigger difference than one might think. There is a reason this AU is called Everything's Better With Triplets, after all
-For example, their presence effectively means that the events of any episode with Striation Gym as the focus don't happen.
-Cress and Chili get their aprons back, because they deserve it!
-My goal is to give Cress and his brother actual arcs and roles while keeping their core characters the same
Tumblr media
-My version of Cress is basically my own headcanons (he can read auras) mashed up with elements of Cress in the anime, Cress in the Adventures manga, and the version of Cress we saw from Pokémon Black and White
-Cress can read auras perfectly, to the point that he can understand what his Pokemon are saying; this, in turn, has allowed him to come up with some pretty good battle strategies
-this will be relevant later when Team Plasma arrives
-Cress gets possessed by the Yamask in that one episode because… why not?
-Let's just say Cress took the aspects of Cilan's anime arc related to Burgundy, while Chili has a crush on Georgia
-In addition to his canonical Panpour, Cress gets a Floatzel, a Combee, a Lillipup, and a Manaphy (though this particular catch wouldn't be on purpose). However, said Floatzel ends up being killed via stuff in Elesa's gym. Thankfully, Cress replaces the Floatzel with a baltoy.
-Speaking of Cress's Floatzel, it… talks. It sounds like Sean Astin. He nicknames it Cash.
-Chili also gets his canonical Heatmor, but also gets a Cubchoo and a Litwick to mess with Cress due to his brother developing a phobia of the Litwick line during "Scare At the Litwick Mansion!". In Alola, he even catches a depressed-sounding Wimpod (which can talk) and an Alolan Sandshrew.
-Also, Cress grows a bit of trust issues. Because it wouldn’t be an AU of mine if someone didn’t have at least some angst, not even the water type gym leader is safe from me
-He also has a number one fan. None other than Faba from Sun and Moon. Yup, didn't see that coming?
-i imagine him as someone who's come from Alola to do research on someone (Cress).
-This Faba is basically an unholy mashup of both versions of him. Much like in the anime and USUM, he is a nasty piece of work without alien toxins. Don't worry, he isn't going to be a one-to-one carbon copy of his anime and USUM incarnations. Because I and many others don't like how Faba was depicted in the first few episodes of the anime, completely destroying any arc that he might have had in the post game of Sun and Moon, let's just say he gets his want for respect back.
-Also, his appearance would be similar to that one picture in the Sun and Moon anime of young Aether
-Faba is the reason why Cress tells Chili to tear off his sleeves.
-Cress and Faba then have a subplot where Cress tries to tell Cilan and Chili about his "fan" but gets interrupted by smth more and more ridiculous every time, until the episode where Faba steals Cress's body.
-Cilan adds a talking maractus and a Solosis to his team, because... why not? And then in Alola, he catches an Alolan Raichu.
-Not much changes with Iris and Ash.
-Team Plasma are closer to their Black 2 and White 2 characterization, but Ghetsis still wants to rule Unova with an iron fist.
--Ghetsis does get arrested at the end
-Also, there's a FOURTH triplet in this AU, called Crispin. Yup, that Crispin.
Tumblr media
-He's their younger brother
-He used to cook for their restaurant. Used
-He ran away after he saw the Shadow Triad and had a freak out
-Team Plasma took him in
-He was raised as a member of Team Plasma
-His Team Plasma name is Major Blanc.
-He shoots his brothers with paintballs like a maniac
-He thinks Cilan, Cress, and Chili are secretly the Shadow Triad!
-He even has a bandolier
-Ghetsis's former right-hand man.
-As Major Blanc, he wears a gas mask. For clothing, he's wearing what looks like a standard uniform of a Canadian army commander, complete with the hat and dark uniform, emblazoned with the emblem of Team Plasma on the left. Over his hands he wears white gloves, and whatever his feet look like are obscured by boots as well.
-As Crispin, he probably looks mostly the same as he does in canon SV! Well since this AU more than supports the headcanon of Crispin being related to Cilan/Chili/Cress, he wears their waiter uniform, but with a peach bow tie. He tears off one of his uniform's sleeves so that he can look different
-As Major Blanc, Crispin has Cubone, a Banette nicknamed Chrysocollas, Dusclops, Chandelure and Zorua. When he eventually shows his true colors, he ditches his Pokemon in favor of a conkledurr, a heracross and keeps the Banette as a symbol that he is restraining himself but is free to act like a villain because everyone knows the truth about him. In Alola, Cress even convinces him to catch a passimian, shiny scizor, and alolan exeggutor.
-The brothers didn't get along at first, given that Crispin was a former member of Team Plasma. And because of this they would often bicker with each other. However, after a while, the brothers warmed up to each other
-I’d imagine he'd be voiced by Tom Wilson
-In Alola, Crispin gets recruited by the Aether Foundation! Too bad a certain someone has a rule that interns must be heard and not seen instead of the other way around. so Crisp just kinda slinks around Aether in the shadows a while until Cress eventually stumbles upon him one way or another
-His outfit as an intern is basically the standard Aether uniform, but with his bow tie.
-He wouldn't look like this for the entire Sun and Moon anime, though. He changes back into his waiter uniform in episode 64 of SM (yes, that episode about Ash and the Passimians is going to be skipped and replaced with one about Cress)
-Crispin is basically the sixth Ranger of the gang!
-and it wouldn't just be Unova these four brothers would be travelling with Ash in. They're going to be in the Sun and Moon anime. The triplets are gonna get a makeover in those seasons
Tumblr media
-In Alola, Cress gets an Alolan Grimer (which evolves into an alolan muk later on). Contrasting with Cilan's Alolan Raichu and Chili's Alolan Sandshrew (later Alolan Sandslash).
-During the magical girl episode, inside of Lillie and Mallow and Lana, the triplets get chosen!
-Cress has a bit of a running gag where he face plants in the dirt
-During the haunted house episode, Chili ends up with Mallow's group, Cilan ends up watching the puppet show with Ash, and Cress gets stuck by the wayside with Lana
-Becomes friends with Lana. They bond over their shared love for water types and Cress is surprisingly adept at giving Lana advice.
-Plumiera debuts earlier this time. She debuts after the Mother Beast arc of the anime, during the Ultra Beasts Arc.
-Plumiera is even worse here than in the anime and games combined. She's basically canon Plumiera, if her bad qualities were amped up and the positives were removed.
-when Plumiera shows up, Chili and Crispin compete to ally with her (Crispin even develops a crush on her), and Cilan develops a rivalry with her.
-And hoooooo boy, would Cress cause all kinds of an uproar towards her.
-Plumiera's first battle with Cress basically destroyed any semblance of standing she has with Cress and Cilan. The latter, especially, has a long standing grudge against poison type Pokemon (his grass types are weak to them) and won’t hesitate to call Plumiera out on it when she’s around.
-Team Rocket and Plumiera end up forming an alliance later on. She isn’t a permanent fixture of the group. Too bad Plumiera is also trying to steal Pikachu, developing even more of a fixation on the mouse Pokemon than Jessie, James and Meowth.
-Plumiera is hellbent on seriously injuring or killing Cress.
-Many of her later battles with Cress incorporated her attempting to kill him right in front of his brothers and acting like there’s nothing personal about it much to Cilan and Chili's horror.
-Crispin still has his crush on Plumiera, even after she tried to kill Cress in their first battle and that knowledge was made known to Cilan, essentially driving her off from Cilan and Cress
-In one of their later battles, Cress gives one heck of a zinger to Plumiera.
Cress: You pigtailed demon! You're not a person! You're horrible! You're an irredeemable monster!
-Plumiera does get her comeuppance when Chili performs Inferno Overdrive, burning half of her pigtails off. Cress points out that her mile long pigtails wouldve gotten her ass yoinked from behind and killed long ago.
-Cress is part of the Ultra Guardians in this AU. His uniform's highlights are silver.
-His ride Pokémon is a Mega Gyarados.
-I feel like the idea of Cilan knowing that Cress is part of the Ultra Guardians but Chili not knowing would be fun.
-Sadly, this means that Plumiera would find out about this and blackmail Cilan into an alliance.
-Cilan does not become a full fledged Team Skull member, but he's just under her thumb. Anyway, this is a horribly one-sided alliance.
-Cilan wants to leave the alliance but is unable to due to the fear of her wrath.
-Plumiera, knowing that Cress is part of the Ultra Guardians, intervenes if they start losing. She wants to take him to the "house", if she fails to injure or kill him.
-Chili finds out (later in the anime), and so does Crispin. And while Jessie, James and Meowth do find out the Ultra Guardians are a thing, they have NO CLUE that Cress is apart of them for a good while and (thanks to Faba) they eventially start realizing that Cress is a member of the Ultra Power Rangers, which throws them for a loop for a good while of the story.
-It's gotten to the point where Cress wishes where the UB battles were actually serious and there was no Team Rocket mucking it up.
-In the Necrozma Arc, Cilan, Crispin and Chili tag along with Faba and Kukui
-Cilan names three of his Pokemon after flowers. Chili names every Pokemon save for his Pansear after different gemstones (Ruby, Pearl, Jade…)
-Cress isn't the type to nickname his Pokemon, but nicknames his Floatzel Cash Networth and his Alolan Grimer Seashell.
-Crispin as Major Blanc does not believe in nicknaming supremancy, save for his Banette. Reformed Crispin nicknames most of his pokemon after playing card suits.
Cilan, Chili and Cress's teams (* designates Evolution):
Cilan: Pansage, Crustle, Stunfisk, Sakura the Maractus, Rose the Solosis*, Minty the Alolan Raichu
Cress: Panpour, Cash Networth the Floatzel, Lillipup*, Combee*, Manaphy, Alolan Grimer*, Baltoy*
Chili: Pansear*, Ruby the Heatmor, Sapphire the Cubchoo*, Pearl the Litwick*, Jade the Alolan Sandshrew*, Amethyst the Wimpod*
-Cress uses French, or words that at least sound French, sometimes. Revealing that off camera during all three seasons of the Pokemon XY anime, he briefly studied in the Kalos region, given that it is inspired by France (cut to Cress on the floor of the Santalune Gym frantically trying to finish his biology homework while Lysandre tries to obliterate Kalos)
-Hobbs, Lillie's butler, takes Crispin as a protégée after seeing his skills in baking. This was because the opportunity is so good. i mean, Crispin is a former member of Team Plasma and he is in need of a decent/solid adult figure in his life!
-Cress starts having nightmares about Ghetsis, Colress, Faba and Plumiera. He then starts having nightmares about a horrible alternate timeline where Ghetsis is ruling Unova with an iron fist.
-In at least one of these nightmares, Unova was destroyed.
-Cilan does try to help Cress get over these nightmares, but it goes sideways in some way
Feel free to ask about this AU!

The Dream Forest (M(T)PJ: Ditto Defect)
My (Twisted) Pokémon Journey Snippets Masterlist
Tumblr media
     The thoughts, memories, and consequences circled like a Mandibuzz over her prey down below. Every step N had taken with Crystal, just a day or two ago, hurt like a stab to his chest. Walking past the Nimbasa City Amusement Park brought bitter sweet emotions back up to the surface; the trust he had felt from Crystal, the trust he had meant to reciprocate.
     The trust he had broken.
     He continued onto Route 16, and the small clearing of Lostlorn Forest. The edges of the clearing had tightly twisted and grown trees; but N knew better. He made sure no one was around, and then stepped through the treeline barrier. This small portion was only an illusion, after all, to protect the deeper, Dream Forest. As he walked, a Zorua joined him silently, matching his pace. N smiled down at him; but he had to get to the Entree. I can't stop right now.
     N didn't have to go far into the trees, though they still grew together denses beyond the illusion, before coming to the waters around the Entree's clearing. Two bridges did connect the mainland to the clearing; however, N found that he could connect to the nature and Pokémon of Dream Forest more when he traversed the strange waters directly. Zorua knew this, too, and followed him in.
Tumblr media
    There was one more moat around the Entree itself, but first N walked over to the boarder separating the Dream Forest from its denser half; a dark place of tangled wood, where he could never go, but only watch the coming and goings of the wisps representing Pokémon. He often greeted the wisps before visiting the Entree.
     This time, though, he saw something else. He saw a Liepard, and then, in a moment of horror, he saw a person materialize.
     "I'll play right into their hands if I do fight back," a sourceless voice said.
     Nothing he had ever seen in the trees was more than wisps of smoke, colored and shaped into their normal forms. The Trainer's smoke – he was sure it was a Trainer, now – shifted form and color – a cream, flowing fur and piercing red eyes, nine tails lashing in anger.
     "I'll break sooner if I don't fight back."
     N recognized the voice this time. Crystal?
     He watched her pummel the Liepard with her nine tails, turning silver with the attack, wincing every time Crystal landed a hit. He wanted to scream, tell her to stop it, but he knew she didn’t know he was there, watching. She wasn’t really in the Dream Forest.
    She stopped attacking just before the Liepard fainted.
    “Wouldn’t it be merciful to her? It would, maybe, if N knew about her. But considering his stance on Pokémon cruelty and abuse, I doubt he knows about this place. Whatever I hold against him, he wouldn’t leave a hurt Pokémon to rot.”
     The Liepard’s smoke dissolved; Crystal, as a Ninetales, laid down. For just a second, N saw her face clearly; clear enough to see tears in her eyes. Faces appeared around her, in the smoke: the scarred Liepard, then her Pokémon, then N, and then a younger, happier version of herself. Crystal buried her face in her paws, and then the scene dissolved.
     N ran to the Entree. “What does it mean?!” he desperately asked it.
     Zorua nudged his leg in concern. “What’d you see?”
     “Something I caused, someone I am bringing harm to.” N reached out to the Entree. “Someone I meant to protect. Please, where is she?”
     He heard more of Crystal’s thoughts, this time stemming directly from the Entree. “I can’t become their tool. Whatever the cost.” Images of Crystal's party appeared in the trees again, this time surrounding her, with happy expressions on their faces. “Except you.” She reached out to them. “I couldn’t be free without leaving you. I was lost, we lost, they won. Better you keep your freedom. I would have lost mine either way, and the torture of knowing everyone else could have gotten away... I never would have forgiven myself.” She pulled her arm away. They all vanished.
     Crystal reappeared, in her normal form, with a hulking, massive golem staring her down. With a dread and horror that had no end, that kept growing inside of him with each mist vision shown, N recognized that hulking golem. They continued the Genesect Project. She was preparing a powerful move of some kind. “So this is Charizard's reward,” he heard. “If I lose control of this and it turns into Self-Destruct, it won’t matter what I do after that.” Another, final image formed in the dense trees: a small building on a small island. A familiar building and island. Crystal exploded, and so did the building and island.
     N grew cold as he recognized the building and island, too. “The P2 Lab,” he said absently. How did this happen? How did I allow this to happen? “I have to get to the P2 Lab.”

can you please do a platonic Poseidon x victini reader ok this is a long one so basically the reader used to be human she was taken away from the ror world and was sent to the world of Pokémon a few years later she was sent back in time to hisuian and thanks to volo the reader was turned into a victini soon she was sent back to normal day and met N now in this N is a zoroark he and the reader where together before the volo thing happened and there still together now one day both the reader and N was sent to the ror world and for some reason Poseidon felt like he knows the reader so they do a DNA test and everyone is shocked but in the end Poseidon let's the reader data N (so the reader does have a human form and obviously because N is a zoroark he can disguise himself as a human N can talk to people in his true form of a zoroark and so can the reader so they can talk normally and it's ok if you don't do this it's just been in my mind for awhile)
Oooh interesting, the reader being Poseidon’s daughter is an interesting twist, also oooh gotta love the ‘N is a zoroark theory’ au 🤩.
Warning: noob author, female reader, and others.
Character: Poseidon.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You were adopted by a elderly couple when you were a baby who found you abandoned with no parent or guardian around you or searching for you and the area they found you in so after checking to see if you do have any guardians they adopted as they couldn’t bear to see what would happen if you were to be put into an orphanage.
You decided to become a trainer when you were a preteen as you wanted to learn more about the Pokémon and world around you, so after saying sweet farewells to the elderly couple you set off on your journey after getting a starter pokemon.
You, now a young adult, were just minding you business out in a field having a picnic with the pokemon you caught so far before a wormhole appeared and dragged you in it leaving you without your precious pokemon. You appeared in a different setting, more in the past times than the one you were used to which made you assume you time traveled into the past of sinnoh by that wormhole, also previous known as hisui, you later confirmed that you were correct on it being the past by the galaxy corps.
You learned about the things that happened here in the past by experiencing them, you even seen some ancestors to the people you seen in modern times which you figured was the ancestors descendants. When you were able to go back to the modern times you were a different person, specifically more Pokémon like all thanks to colo who ordered giratina to kill you but giratina instead turned you into the victory pokemon, thankfully though you have a human form instead of staying as a pokemon.
You met N after you landed back where you first disappeared from, he was apparently taking care of your Pokémon while they wait for your return as they knew you’d come back, you found out that you could understand Pokémon language as the usual calls they made were now like the language humans speak to you, you explained how you are now able to communicate and understand them than you did before your disappearance. You and N started spending time together soon after before dating, you later found out that he was a Pokémon as well, a zoroark to be specific, you doted on him more than before as you wanted to make sure that he knew that you loved him the same.
You, your Pokémon and N all were later sucked into another wormhole this time leading to a new place entirely, you weren’t really fazed by it like the others were as this happened once already and you had assumed that it might happen to you again which it did. You, N, and your Pokémon found out that this world humans are fighting for survival against the gods so naturally you joined sides with humanity as you once was human as well plus there are innocent people at stake right now. The gods later found out how the humans kept on winning multiple times in a row each round even though some of the odds were against the humans, you noticed to and realized that you have the ability to have the humans win no matter what which made you happy though the gods noticed and had a meeting before bringing you in for an explanation; you happily explained that you will continue to side with the humans no matter what if the gods didn’t do their jobs, after a discussion the gods decided to actually do their jobs for once as they knew with you on humanity’s side they would never win no matter what they do.
You later met a male god who was the god of the sea in Greek; his name was Poseidon, you don’t know why but you felt like you should know him even though you are sure you two never met before, Poseidon feels the same, after some talking between the two of you, you both decided to do a dna test just in case with the help of beelzebub, you and him find out that you’re his long lost daughter that disappeared as a baby which made you both and everyone shocked to hear about that, he also found out that the boy with you is your boyfriend which he allows you to date as he knew N was good enough for you plus he couldn’t really say anything about it since he sadly wasn’t apart of your life until now even if it wasn’t in his control. After that happened it wasn’t long before another wormhole opened up shooting out the very person that basically made you into a Pokémon, after some explaining to your father about who volo was and what he had done Poseidon is now chasing after volo with his trident with murderous intent.
(A/n: hope y’all like it! Also the requester dm’ed me some things about the request so that’s why you see some things that were left out of the request, anyway I believe that’s it and hope y’all have a wonderful day/evening/night!!!)
Are there any non-pokemon games you like to play? Or any you'd recommend others check out that you think fewer people know about than they should?
Oohhhh man, do I ever! I'm not as much of a gamer as I was as a kid, but I'm trying to get back into the hobby— so this is a really fun ask to receive!
Some recommendations I have are:
Baba Is You. This puzzle game is well known for good reasons. I've had to look up a lot of solutions for different puzzles, but I never feel cheated by any of them. And I get excited whenever I realize a new mechanic I can use to my advantage!
Ooblets. I swear, I've made this game myself in an alternate timeline. It's Stardew Valley meets Pokemon meets Katamari Damacy meets the most adorable art you've ever seen. It's everything I could want, and I love it. I haven't beaten it yet, but I'm loving every second of it.
A Short Hike. It's another one that is also well known, but it's seriously so inspiring to me. Short, sweet, and will stick with you forever through its delightful setting.
Mars Power Industries. A real neat puzzle game that was too big for my brain to comprehend, and I had to look up a lot of solutions for. Even so, I really enjoyed it and its environmental storytelling.
Hyper Light Drifter. This game was the first piece of media I truly wrote fanfiction for in my life, and it's spawned a lot of original projects based on the ideas that it tackles. I own the official art book!
The DS games of Drawn to Life (not the big-name spinoffs or Wii + Switch sequels). These games shaped my creative journey as a child, and I owned the original version of the game that was made before they censored the ending, but I foolishly sold it to GameStop for a couple of in-store credits.
Oneshot. If you haven't played it, don't look up anything about the game other than the price. Just buy it and play. It's less fourth-wall "bending" and more fourth-wall "crawling through the screen and beating you with a steel chair" in terms of narrative and gameplay, and the Solstice update's revelations on the antagonist changed me as a human being.
A Dark Room (the text-only one) and its sequel, The Ensign. Another game you shouldn't look up much about before playing. The plot twists and environmental storytelling in the first game and its sequel also marked my creative journey in significant ways.
Journey. When life was hard, I'd play this game for hours, and it helped me keep going when I thought I couldn't anymore. I even own the art book for it as well!
Decided to soothe a little anxiety with another what-if Ash team, this time if he were to appear in the Horizons anime at some point.
The problem is that... I like both teams lol. So we could say there's one for Scarlet and one for Violet.
I decided to try and play with the idea Journeys proposed- rather than an entirely new team from the generation the anime takes place in, it's instead a mixed gen team of pokemon fans wanted him to have, some new faces, and unexpected ones.
However, because Ash isn't an MC anymore, a lot can happen. I think a really cool thing to see would be seeing a mix of him catching pokemon we fans/he missed a chance on catching, or evolving pokemon the writers either abandoned or kept cute because of stupid reasonings.
Anyways, my take on these teams:
Ash would have somehow wound up in Hisui at some point after becoming World Champion, at that point he would have had his Oshawott, Quilava, and Gible with him (and Rowlett too, but he's cursed with that stupid everstone). It'd be a quick run and I'd imagine he'd probably have a team caught from there before finding himself back in modern times via Kitakami's Crystal Pool somehow. However that quick run would be enough to finally finish out Cyndaquil's evolution to a Hisuian Typhlosion and expose Oshawott to Hisuian energy to become Hisuian Samurott. All of this would probably be mentioned briefly in passing or be a short few episode special or something before joining the group temporarily to help beat the bad guys.
So his team and a blurb for each.
Returning mons:
Pikachu: of course you gotta have this guy. I think a neat twist would be for it to be a Steel teratype because of his prolific Iron Tail usage. I'd imagine he and Cap would be great friends.
Garchomp: formerly Gible, but also an Alpha species now because it got hit with some distortion mumbo jumbo once, which prompted it to grow abd evolve rapidly. It's adapted to its new body and power, and Ash can even ride it now, but personality wise it's still a bit the same. Still biting his head out of affection especially.
Hisuian Typhlosion: again, it was already a Quilava at this point and was extremely close to finishing out it's evolution line, so by chance it finally does it. Like before, it's a bit ditzy, now becoming a bit of a sleepy boy, but also gaining a lot of power from evolution in exchange for some of its agility. I imagine now that he's taller, he gives the best hugs and takes plenty of naps with his head on Ash's shoulder or in his lap. Violet team.
Hisuian Samurott: the same Oshawott from Unova, but now greatly matured after helping to save Ash and Pikachu from harsh wilderness and dangerous Alphas. He's a bit more stoic now, and extremely loyal and strong, but deep down he still vies for adoration and attention even though he's better about it now. Praise and encouragement strive it to fight even harder. Scarlet team.
Both Typhlosion and Samurott would be evolved off screen as well, even if one appears and the other doesn't. Both also fill the role of a starter on his team since nobody has a fully evolved Hisuian starter in Journeys or Horizons yet (I'd imagine maybe another trainer would have Hisuian Decidueye). It'd feel like a good return to have a starter on the team, plus give him 2 pokemon I think he should have in some spirit or another.
New mons
Lokix: I once did an Ash run in Scarlet out of boredom, opting to give him a more traditional Paldean team (that I'd honestly change now). Something that wouldn't change is keeping Lokix, because it is universally agreed by fans that he'd have one. Hard not to see why, he's a Kamen rider bug and is very fast and nimble, and a little guy too, obviously a good formula for cool anime fights. In this case, I'd imagine Lokix being obtained as a Nymble and training hard to evolve, abd he's constantly posing and cool as hell. Even world champion Ash would get starry eyed seeing it make a cool pose after winning a battle.
Dundunsparce (3 segments): so something I noticed is that Ash tried to capture a Dunsparce TWICE in the anime- once in gen 5, and once in gen 6, both failed attempts. Something I never remembered to take into account us that Ash sometimes just gas weird or goofy/jokey Pokemon, and Journeys in particular has several Pokemon fans wanted Ash to have for years, like Gengar and Mega Lucario. So I figured 2 birds with one stone, third time is the charm and he finally catches a Dunsparce of his own. Then, it fully evolves into a whopping THREE SEGMENT Dundunsparce. It's a Pokemon Ash is rather fond of, and Dundunsparce sometimes shows affection by wrapping himself around Ash and squeezing the life out of him.
Armarouge: this seems to be a very widely agreed certified Ash Pokemon by the fans. And why not, it's a very cool design with colors that mesh well with Ash himself. I'd imagine Ash befriends a spunky Charcadet one day after making a sandwich, and instead of it being abandoned or mistreated, it's a Pokemon that has simply a desire to get stronger and actually rejects trainers for being too weak- but it saw something in Ash immediately and insisted on following him until he got caught. It eventually evolved into Armarouge after a pretty intense training session with Ash and a set of armor it received from a master of its line. Armarouge is now a very loyal bro pokemon that's especially gifted at run and gun tactics, although Ash is none too shy about using some of its moves at point blank range. Scarlet team.
Palafin: honestly this one was picked mostly to fill in a water slot, as I'm not particularly a fan of it nor do I really see Ash bothering with a Pokemon with an ability as complex as this. However, most people think this is another Certified Ash Pokemon, so I guess it's okay. I do think it'd be hilarious if Ash and most others aren't even sure where the transformed mode even comes from, but I also think for Ash to take full advantage of it, he'd eventually figure it out. A very caring Pokemon that especially goes all out against rough trainers and constantly helped Pokemon in need, but nobody has ever seen it transform once- and Ash didn't even know it did until he saw the heart on its chest. Violet team.
I definitely prefer the Scarlet team in this case, but I do think the other looks cool as hell as well. If he were to ever meet the Horizons team, I'd imagine this could be a Yugi vs Jaden GX moment for a final battle.
