Supportive Writing Discord!

Just wanted to give a shoutout to the Miraculous Writers’ Circle Discord Server for being the nicest and most supportive group of Miraculous fanfic writers that I’ve ever had the pleasure of getting to know!

I’ve hit a rough patch in my writing, feeling like the fandom would be better without me in it. I expressed those concerns and the MWC encouraged me to keep going. I know that I would not have gotten the same support in one other particular fandom Discord server (whose large membership just so happens to include the very person that got me down on myself about my writing in the first place!)

Thank you for everything, MWC! If you’re not already in this server, you should really come check it out! It’s a great place. :)

PROMPT: Day 1 - “Take my hand.” RATING: SFW - T for language WORDS: 791 NOTES: Decided to participate in Monthly Writing Challenges (basically a new prompt everyday) as a way to get over my writers block. Been a bit short on time from work obligations, so hopefully these short drabbles will get me back in the swing of things. Expect something new everyday (FROM ME??? BLASPHEMMYYYYYYYY.) Based loosely on the world and relationships of Wayward Children yes the protag is based on the reader from there. 

Shit, she thought as she lodged the blade of her corvo deep into the sheet metal of the Nif aircraft, pulling herself up with some difficulty and into the cargo bay, just in time to dodge the bullets that pierced the hull of where she just was. With her back pressed against the wall, she looked over her shoulder, grateful that the Nif tactics never seemed to deviate: arrive at the drop-point and dump a hoard of MT axemen and assassin units on their targets. It made her job that much easier. Extracting technology from their newest airship would be a piece a cake without the looming distraction of units aboard.

Two fingers pressed against her com-link, she said, “Pelna, I’m in. Walk me through this.”

“Got it. I’m not registering any other heat signatures on board. Should be easy enough. Look for a rectangular electric panel—”

A voice cackled in her ear as Crowe’s voice filtered through the static. “C’mon, Pel, a rectangular electrical panel on a Nif airship? No way.”

“If you’d let me finish, I was about to give her the specs.”

“Seriously, guys? Ship’s empty and all, but I don’t know for how long. Kind of want to make it back in one piece.”

“Yeah, guys. The King’ll have your heads if he finds out he lost his precious princess to the bickering of two idiots.”

“Not a princess!” she groaned as her ear buzzed simultaneously with the voices of her team shouting: “Oi, you’re one to talk, Ulric,” “Don’t think you’d get off scot-free, hero,” and “Would you all shut up.”

“Concentrate. Or you’re all due for a month’s worth of Wall duty,” their captain growled out suddenly before the telltale beep signaled his disconnection.

“…no one told me Captain Grouchy-pants was on this frequency.”

Laughter so contagious burst through her earpiece she almost caught herself giggling along when she remembered where she was.

“Uh…still here, guys. Still on the Nif ship. Waiting.”

“Right, uh, it’ll have—” Pelna started, but the rest of his words were lost in an ugly cacophony of twisting metal and shattering glass.

The sheer force of the explosion knocked her on her back. Her head throbbed from the impact. Before she could regain her footing, the ground began to tilt followed by the groan of what sounded like eminent engine failure.

Scrambling for purchase, her body lurched with the airship, hitting the opposite wall. Instinct made her latch onto the railing with her uninjured hand, hanging on for her dear life. While the aircraft was descending haphazardly at a snail’s pace, there was still hundreds of feet between her and the ground. There was no way she’d be able to warp down successfully with her dominant wrist sprained.

This was it. This was how she was going to die. She should’ve listened to father. Should’ve taken those extra lessons with Selene. Should’ve—

“Take my hand.”

Relief swelled through her chest until she looked up to see Luche, the one person worse at warping than Pelna, who’s perpetually stuck at command. Although, to his credit, it was mostly due to his expertise in data analytics and tactical coordination.

“No,” she grunted. “I’m fine.”

“Seriously? Now?”

“You’ll drop me!”

“I won’t— Don’t you trust me?”

“No.”

“You think I’m going to drop you on purpose or something? I’d never entertain anything so treasonous as dropping his Highness’ precious daughter.”

She squinted her eyes at him in mock consideration as if to say, “Wouldn’t you?” while trying to hedge her options. She could admit she didn’t believe he had the ability to warp with a passenger and hang for her dear life or take a gamble hundreds of feet in midair…

“Astrals above, seriously?” he cursed in frustration, tapping his com-link on. “Ulric, get over here and take care of your girlfriend.”

Luche winced as two voices simultaneously yelled at him:

“Not my girlfriend!” 

“Not my boyfriend!”

Nyx snorted at the scene of his favorite glaive straining against the railing, too stubborn to accept Luche’s help, and regulation-stickler-Luche dangling on the same railing barely two-feet away, frustrated but too concerned to leave her alone. Throwing his kukri toward them, he warped onto the railing and snaked his arm around her waist.

“You’re such a pain in my ass, Ria.”

Aeria laughed, all teeth and twinkling eyes. “That may be so, Nyx Ulric, but you love it.

With a roll of his eyes, Nyx expertly flicked his kukri into the air, taking her laughing form with him.

“You owe me one.”

“You can count us even for the last time I saved your ass.”

“Ungrateful brat.”

“Unrelenting jerk.”

Static buzzed in their ears before Pelna’s voice came over loud and clear. “Will you two get a room already?”

question 1 - i saw that you recently posted you were off-hiatus and were excited to write again. would you be okay sharing which pieces you're thinking of writing for? or will there be new fics? (i definitely don't have a favourite fic that i'm dying to see updated, it's definitely not kimono no onna and i'm not asking to find out, absolutely not 😅)

question 2 - in that same post you asked for warm up fic requests. are you stilll accepting requests? if so may i broadly request madasaku? if this is too general for you to work with i can suggest prompts and you can see if you like them!

With Respect To (WRT) your questions:

I have a few fics I am really hoping to get back to shortly. One of them is "Kimono no Onna", yes. <3 I love that fic. I have scenes and bits and pieces written, but no more full chapters (unfortunately), though it was nearing the last quarter of the story itself where I last left off. It's definitely on my list of fics to complete (and then properly edit before I post to AO3). As for other fics I have planned, I'm not sure if this list is visible unless you're logged in, but I do keep a rough plan on my MyWriteClub profile. (Please let me know if it's visible or not? I don't know what others see if/when they visit.) I use MyWriteClub (MWC) to sprint (and force myself to write without distractions). :) (Some friends of mine on a wonderful Discord channel introduced me to MWC and I'm a big fan of it. <3 ) Sorry, I got distracted from your original question--yes, KnO is on the list to be tackled... as the opportunity arises.

I am accepting warm up writing prompts, yes! I don't always write/post for every single one I receive, but I never know when one will jog my brain straight into hyper-creative mode and keep me writing for hours (the 'MadaSaku secret royalty AU, for example: I wrote around 60k for it in one month). I love collaborating as it creates the opportunity for new ideas to be jump-started out of places I never would have considered. ^_^Y Writing MadaSaku is always a pleasure--please suggest prompts at your leisure! :D

Minecraft with Friends Season Two [Vanilla] [SMP] [PVE] [Minigames] {Vanilla+} {Whitelist} {1.14} {16+} {Discord} {Friendly Community} {Active} {North America} {United Kingdom} {MobHeads}

Welcome back to Minecraft with Friends! Our current group is getting a little bit closer to the end of season one, so we are starting our recruitment for season two right now.

About MWC: This whitelist server is all about vanilla survival, but also customizing our experience with a handful of unique and simple datapacks, plus our own creativity. "Infinite possibilities" is our motto. We build anything from aesthetic structures, to farms, to machines. Add in an economy, theme parks, and other attractions, and things can get real interesting.

Our group is spread out around the world, and can continue to be diverse. We have a variety of ages, genders, orientations and ethnic backgrounds.

MWC is for Youtube content creators who take uploading consistently seriously, but also enjoy what they do, and enjoy working with other content creators. If you need that multiplayer series for your channel, this server is the place to create it.

We frequently discuss all things related to the server on our Discord. These topics include artwork/logos, collaborative projects, suggestions for new ideas, storylines, announcements, trading/economy, and so much more! We like to communicate a lot, so all thoughts and ideas are welcome and appreciated.

The exact start date of season two will be announced at a later date, depending on when Minecraft version 1.14 is officially released. (You are welcome to join the current server in 1.13.2, and see what we've built and how we interact).

The Rules:

To be considered for MWC Season Two, you must be at least 16 years old.

Your main Youtube channel (the one you upload to regularly), must be family friendly.

All content that you plan to create on the MWC server, and about the MWC server, has to be family friendly. Discussions and video commentary about adult/inappropriate content, bullying, mental health, racial and homophobic slurs, trolling, flaming, politics and religion will never be allowed.

Pranks are totally acceptable and 100% allowed ;P

Griefing, stealing items, hurting or killing pets, and invading another member's privacy are not allowed.

@miaouerie mentioned writing sprints in the notes, where you and any number of others sit down to write for a specific period of time—I've seen anywhere from 5 minutes to 30—and sit down and compare after. As miaouerie said, it's not quite the same as watching in a GoogleDoc, but it does make writing more of a group activity. Some Discord servers have bots on them that allow people to easily sprint (announcing the start and end of sprints), and it may be something to look into.

There's also myWriteClub, which was how I was introduced to sprinting. The Discord server I was on (and others I've joined since then) had their own dedicated writing room on mWC where logged-in users could all write together at the same time. The advantage of mWC is that the site will also allow you to see the word count of everyone in the room (including yourself), with a bar that fills in (or the opposite, if words are deleted) as more words are written. (This can also be turned off if you'd rather not have that pressure.) There's also a chat box that lets you talk with other writers as you sprint, for extra camaraderie. While it's not quite as "hands-on" as watching someone write in a GoogleDoc, it also turns writing into a group activity while at the same time not putting any one writer on the spot as the "host" since you can't see what other people are writing, just how many words they've written.

There are, unfortunately, some drawbacks. You need to have an account to participate, and you need to have a room to write in (though it's free and easy to create both). Sprints are always 25 minutes and start on the hour and the half (with a 5 minute break at the end) and you can't readjust that. More importantly, mWC is still in beta, and at times it really shows. I've sometimes had to refresh the mWC page several times because the server is acting like the site is down or doesn't exist (even while other people are actively in a room and writing). Wordcounts may be off because of crummy connections (which may also result in the same account apparently being in the room twice) or mWC being confused (for me, it frequently restarts my word count if I leave the tab/window/app that mWC is open in while in the middle of a sprint). And, if you're copying out of the mWC text box and into another doc, it will sometimes mess with your returns in such a way that while it looks fine, it may not convert those returns correctly into HTML when it comes time to upload a fic to AO3.

It's far from ideal, but sprinting in a mWC room can be a lot of fun. You may not get to see what other people are writing, but you do know you're all writing together at the same time, and that can be its own inspiration in itself.

Hello. I have very bad writing anxiety. I have trouble getting started on new projects and staying motivated. I've found that sometimes watching others write in real time helps (ex. sitting in on their gdoc), but opportunities to do so are rare. Is there any etiquette around this sort of thing in fandom?

I don’t know of any etiquette around this, but it’s also not something I’ve seen a lot of personally. 

I’ve written in a shared google doc while someone else was in it, but that’s about it. Is that the sort of situation that you’re thinking of?

I don’t think there’d be any harm in putting out a post asking if anyone would let you watch them write. There might also be youtube channels or twitch streams that do that kind of thing?

What do the rest of you think? Any suggestions to help anon out?

The third Aspire mapping contest has started. This time around, we’ll be using The Solace of Oblivion, one of Helblinde’s tracks from this new album, Ephemerality. The contest will run for 32 days which should give people more than enough time to create some wonderous eye candy for this almost 6 minute beast of a song.

Our new year gifts don’t stop there though with though, as the best of 2016 voting is now finally live! For those new to osu!, at the start of the year, we hold a vote where you - the players get to vote for what you think were the best maps of the year.

ztrot and myself (deadbeat) have released another new osu!talk. This time around, we got to talk to two time OWC winner, Toy. So if you’ve ever been interested in learning a bit more about him (or where his name came from), now’s your chance!

osu! players have long since admired the nono keyboards, but what about extending that to other game modes? Surely osu!mania could also benefit greatly from something similar? Well you’re not the only one to think so. LastExceed has created something similar to the infamous nono keyboards, but with mania more in mind. Could we be seeing more of this in the future?

The guys over at #modhelp have decided to host another modhelp mapping contest. Contestants will have 48 hours to create and submit a single difficulty. Winners will receive 6/4/2 months of supporter with first place also receiving a fancy profile badge. The contest will start on the 28th, so be sure to check out the thread for all the information.

The Community Mentorship program has started preparing for round three. Hosted by Yuii- and Okorin, the program is scouting for mappers motivated enough to take on a beginner mapper to show them the way into the mapping community. The applications are open until the 5th of February so if you are mapping osu! and are interested in this idea, give this thread a read.

handsome has gone out of his way to dig up some neat stats and records regarding mapping during 2016. For example, did you know that there were 481 mappers in 2016, 153 of which were new?

Scorewatch: January Week 3 (with Scorewatch Patrol)

Vaxei just can’t stop choking can he? He managed to set an impressive choke on Izumi Akazawa (CV. Madoka Yonezawa) - Responsibility Response on the Slayed’s Answer difficulty with a 98.08% 2 miss 632pp play. This play, however, is at 303BPM with the DT mod slapped on, forcing him into situations where he singletaps at 303BPM! What can this kid not do?

Cookiezi went a step further beyond the boundaries of insanity and HDDT FCed M2U feat. Guriri - Magnolia on AngelHoney’s ExtrA with a 97.92% 454pp play. Watch out at 0:54 where it all goes down the drain, Cookiezi manages to FC all the sliders despite dropping some sliderends which is an incredible feat regardless. Take a gander at this amazing score.

Chiyoko - Baby Fantastic!(Epsilon Remix) is a 5:34 6.37* marathon map for taiko. So what happens when the global No. 1 decides to try this map with HDDT? Well, he FCs it of course. _yu68 shows that he can still hit those drums to the beat with a 99.57% 633pp play. This is nothing short of breathtaking for this Japanese player.

WindyS has been going on a DT mania run himself too, clinching an amazing 3rd place on the DT leaderboards for orangentle / Yu_Asahina - HAELEQUIN (Extended ver.) on Jinjin’s 7K difficulty. This places the song at a staggering 258BPM. This play is also, apparently, worth 1629pp. I don’t know if that amount of pp equates to the speed seen in this video, how about you judge it yourself!

osu!mania 7K World Cup Week 2: As we Wave goodbye

The quarter finals got off to a solid start with convincing 5-0 win for South Korea in their match against Thailand. South Korea left the group stage having only conceded one point and are looking to make sure it stays that way. With an average accuracy of 99.67%, South Korea are looking just as strong as ever.

We’ve already seen one 5-0 win, but did we see any more? Yes, yes we did. In the second match, we saw another convincing 5-0, this time between China and France. While France did put up a strong fight with some rather close scores on Sora no Senritsu and Hyori Ittai, it just wasn’t enough to calm the Chinese storm.

Chile and Indonesia took to the stage next, with many hoping that this would be the match to break the 5-0 streak. To everyone’s relief, we saw not a 5-0, but a 5-2 in favor of Indonesia. Chile did put up a valiant effort, having the highest scoring player in 4 of the 7 maps.

Our last match of the day was between the United States and the Philippines. While the United States was the favorite going into the match, and managed to snag a few points on both Pink Gold and X-D-A-T, it wasn’t enough as the Philippines surged ahead to a well deserved 5-2 win.

With all the mapping contests, MWC and voting out and about, it sounds like you’ll all be busy for a while. The year is 2017. It’s a brand new year with endless possibilities. Only catch is that it still features the same old osu!weekly you’ve all come to love. You do love us, right?

The first batch of 2017 Loved maps are ready for voting! Would you like to see Knife Party receive some love, or are you a supporter for Camellia? Perhaps you’re more in tune with the sweet sounding screams of Igorrr or maybe relaxing to the unique sound of The Flashbulb. Whichever is your preference, make sure to head over to the voting threads to cast your vote! The poll only runs for about 2 days (48 hours) from now, so get in quick!.

After years in the making, it is now finally possible to submit multiple scores on maps in the Loved category. A long awaited feature, this now means that maps may have a number of scores from the same user on the scoreboards instead of just the single score as it was previously. Only the highest score will count for pp and accuracy when the system moves on to other Ranked maps later in the year.

Syrin has released a rather nifty tool for getting some information about how you play the game. The program, named osu!chan provides information about both your profile and your top performance scores, including those chokes you’d rather forget. You also have the option to filter by mods or no mod, depending on your preferences.

Totally unbiased unweighted favorite mappers

The osu!academy channel has released some more fantastic storyboard showcases for you to enjoy! First, there’s Euclid created by Exile- and secondly, there’s Sweet Dreams (11t dnb mix) created by Storyboarder (yes that is their name).

S3RL and nanobii have just been announced as the newest additions to the Featured Artists roster. S3RL has already made a huge impact in osu! with several of his tracks already made into insanely popular maps. On the other hand, nanobii is someone we haven’t seen much of yet in osu!, but his popularity elsewhere on the web (did someone say Monstercat?) and his amazingly uplifting tracks have some serious potential for some incredible mapping.

Scorewatch: January Week 1 (with the Scorewatch Patrol)

Before we get into the scorewatch this week, there is something we’d like to cover. Previously, it was just poor Raveille hunting down and sharing some of the insane plays people were doing on a weekly basis. However, Scorewatch has expanded and we now have a small team of people working on this.

This new team consists of: * magnomizer * n1doking * Poised * Raveille * Xylo-. Hooray for progress! Now, onto some scores:

It's actually pretty hard to play bad on purpose. MinG3012, however, is the master of bad accuracy, and has pulled off an impossible score, with a 45.59% HD FC (not to mention, a Perfect graph) on 9mm Parabellum Bullet - Inferno, on The Eclipse difficulty. Only a few have managed to FC this difficulty with the HD mod slapped on, which makes this play even more impressive. Engulf yourself into the madness that is MinG3012. So bad that it is actually good. Or it was just good from the start.

Cookiezi is on fire yet again as he pulled off an insane HDHR play on UNDEAD CORPORATION - Everything will freeze, on the Time Freeze difficulty. This run saw only 2 misses, which unfortunately did not beat his personal best, but would stand at 652pp. Without the choke, this play would stand at an incredible 869pp. See it to believe it. Will 2017 be the year of the fabled 1k pp score? Time will tell.

hvick225 has now dropped to 5th as a certain 13 year old American has climbed a step higher with a new personal best! Vaxei managed to set a 730pp score on HO-KAGO TEA TIME - Kira Kira Days on the Shiawase!! difficulty, choking a HDDT 98.03% play. There's some intense 300BPM single-tapping in this video, so go check it out!

Our very own n1doking became the first taiko player to FC Renard - Because Maybe! pt.2. Why? Because he could. This 22 minute marathon map tests one's stamina greatly, and the No. 1 American has shone brightly in the leaderboards. Try not to fall asleep while watching this replay. n1doking surely didn't.

Former osu!mania no. 1 jhlee0133 pulled off an unfortunate 1 miss play on Fleshgod Apocalpyse - The Deceit / The Violation on Xeo's Unmerciful Fate difficulty. This 10 minute song brings out the living hell of mania players and this pushes the limits between speed and stamina. Take a dive into the depths of metal with this incredible play, but be aware of the unforgettable (at least for jhlee0133) miss.

MWC 7K Week 0: Live Drawing Shenanigans

The osu!mania World Cup 7K is now fully underway with the live drawings complete. Our teams have been sorted into their groups, the mappool has been revealed (anime girls world cup 2017) and the schedule for the group stage is already out! If you’re interested in learning more, all the information is available on the wiki. If you’d rather skip that and cut straight to the action, we’ll be starting things off next weekend on Saturday the 14th at 11am UTC.

Before we leave you for the week, our new year comes with a new addition to the weekly team. Xylo- will be helping Starrodkirby86 in creating even more puzzles! Speaking of,we have a new one for you hungry puzzle solvers to chip away at. This time, it’s a plain and simple crossword focusing on maps that were classed as some of the best maps of their respective years.
