-FLASHBACK FRIDAY- To the 25/07/2024: The Whizzer.

Continuing my quest to draw various Marvel superheroes! Here's another one I drew way back in July and that's "The Whizzer".

Now If you thought DC's "The Flash" had a silly origin what with being struck by lightning and doused with chemicals. Then Marvel's the Whizzer might be more so.

After being bitten by a poisonous snake, Robert Frank was injected with a serum that contained mongoose blood (Mongoose's are the natural predator to Snakes see).

The Serum triggered Frank's latent Mutant abilities and gave him superhuman speed. Calling himself the "Whizzer", Frank was a costumed hero during the 1940s and joined the All-Winners squad alongside Captain America, Sub-Mariner and the Human Torch (Not Johnny Storm the Human Torch a different one).

ARGONUS FAUNA: gremlins, rhinos and noodles

(NOTE: descriptions copy-pasted from DA where i normally/originally post my works. any context that is missing here on tumblr can be found on my DA [linked here and on pinned post] )

[additional note: much of the first several post on argous's fauna use a human to scale instead of an E-class aircraft like i would end up doing later on. thus, animal's actual size relative to their world will be smaller. a bonus note to make is that this human perspective also includes names of the animals, so i'll be giving out alternate names and/or some explanation....]

so, anyways...here's the beginning of a series of fauna unique to argonus.....starting with the earliests of these posts and making our way up.

GREMLIN BIRD -4ft 11' long (including tail) -caprimulgiformes, own group but related to potoos. -forest / woodlands throughout the old world, but especially in eroon and sonias

    generally speaking, when it comes to argonus the term "gremlin" can referee to one of two things: -a derogatory name for humans that live in the walls of larger elkinet's homes -several species of birds known to live in urban environments and have a reputation of being aggressive     you can guess which i'm referring to here. gremlin birds, also known as gremlin nightjars, gremlin potoos or just gremlins, are a pretty large genus of caprimulgiformes (potoos, nightjars, etc.). they're naturally found in the woodland of the old world, however they have also excellently adapted to living in urban and suburban environments. they're easily identifiable by the ear-like tufts on their heads, which most members of the order don't have. the diet of the gremlin bird is the same as every other nightjar and potoo; various insects, including moths, termites and beetles. however, unlike most other members of it's family, gremlin birds are crepuscular and most actives in the mornings and evenings.     gremlin birds nest in just about any hollow space large enough to live in. in the wild, these would include tree hollows, fallen trunks, abandoned burrows and undersides of rockfaces. however, in urban environments they'll use places like abandoned structures, barns, sheds, attics and back alleys to nest and raise young. they make a small, simple nest using twigs and whatnot, where they raise 1-2 chicks for 6 months. during that time they're know display aggression towards anything seen as a threat, typically if their first two tactics (camouflaged and intimidation) don't work.

SLEIPNIR RHINOCEROS -18 ft at the shoulder -rhinocerotidae, close relative of elasmotherium -boreal and temperate forest of eroon and sonias

    considering how argonian horned animals will always have an extra set of horns, this is the closest argonus can really get to a unicorn. sleipnir rhinos (also known as fur rhinos by the elkinets) are a genus of rhinoceros that get their name from the multi-limb horse of Norse mythology, sleipnir. their genus, sleipniroceros, are the last remaining members of the subfamily elasmotheriinae, the subfamily that had elasmotherium and sinotherium. they're not as big as other extant rhino species, only being around the same height as an argonian donkey.     sleipnir rhinos, despite being a rare and vulnerable species, have a pretty extensive range; species can be found from as far west as maronus, as north as the northernlands and as far south as center kingdom. sleipnir rhinos are most commonly found in the boreal and temperate woodlands, where they eat they various foliage of leaves, twigs and fruits. they're primarily solitary, with the males being loners and female living in pairs. their horns, like all other rhinos, are primarily for defense, however attacks are rare because sleipnir rhinos choose to run from a threat first.     the elkinets have, for a long time (600 years), kept sleipnir rhinos in captivity for a variety of reasons, depending on the culture. most commonly they're bred for their wool and meat, but have also been great at being beast-of-burden. however, no species is fully domesticated, only just very tame.

{tumblr note: the "sleipnir" part of the rhino's scientific name is actually the name of the naturalist who gave them the scientific name. also, they are NOT the only "unicorn" on argonus, as i kept creating more and more cool fauna for the world}

WALKER VOLANS -14 ft tall -domestic descendant of the secretary bird -origins in gwangir

    elkinets, for centuries at this point have been domesticating various species of birds. birds-of-prey species (vultures, owls, eagles, ect) have been a mainstay, since like the argonian helicopters (stunnits), they fill the role of dogs/cats while having the perk of flight and keeping up with their flying owners. the secretary bird here is no different, however, they're actually a very recent addition to the line of domesticated raptors. they've been tamed in captivity as early as the mid 17nth century, but only started to become truly domesticated in the early 21ste century (2000s-ish era), at least a decade before the pukani (and subsequent interdimensional beings) arrived. within the 500 years, they became fully domesticated with various distinct breeds and far enough removed to become it own distinct species; the walker volans (aka walking bird).     walker volans come in a variety of colors, coat lengths and sizes, however they don't stray too far from the basic build of their wild ancestor; they're still that tall, lanky bird with a sharp beak. however, there is one major difference from their wild ancestors, and that is flight. the walker volans are still relatively terrestrial, however they've been bred to fly more stronger, faster and longer than the secretary bird. this has, coincidentally, made them popular amongst human and similarly-sized sophonts as perfect mounts.

[tumblr note: i have yet to make any more domestic bird-of-prey for argonus (besides an owl that i scrapped one time). i must've forgotten about that, so...yeah, ok, moving on...]

SONIAS LAMPREY -3 ft in length -lamprey species -freshwaters of indus, center kingdom and kingdom of laos          the sonias lamprey is a very common species of lamprey, found through southern sonias. on it's own, its not too different from the average argonian lampreys. the only thing that makes them different is their omnivores diet, since they'll eat anything they can put their mouths on. but, they also go by the alternative name "soupfish", and not because the look like a noodle.     sonias lampreys (as well as other species of lampreys found in sonias) are commonly eaten as food. the most common dish is lamprey soup, where the noodles are replace with whole, cooked lampreys, sometimes with skull and spine attached. these lampreys are either pickled or marinated before being fried in a pan. although they taste great, many outsiders find it gross since they normally see lampreys as pests rather than food.

LEPOREPORCOS -9 ft at shoulders -cavy, giant relative of the mara / Patagonian hare -woodlands of north archus

    like alot of the large islands, back in the ice age both north archus and south archus were loosely connected to each other and mainland southest ameriga. most of the mammals that got their either crossed via the frozen bridge or by rafting there. then the ice began to melt, which had the sea levels rise and now here we are. like many islands, there's some unique fauna to the lands, and no island fauna would be complete without some kind of insular gigantism/dwarfism.     the leporeporcos is also known as the giant mara, and as one would guess it's a large rodent belonging to the Dolichotinae subfamily, the same family as the maras. due to the lack of competition and predators, they've become much bigger and heavier, with the size close to a capybaras. like it's relatives, it eats leaves and grasses and is a very social animal.

Because the Ooze was designed to make super soldier mutants, it helps its host adapt to the conditions around them. After a few years, it started to double-mutate him to adapt to his new harsh environment, making him very raptor-like.

Because of his double mutation and trauma of past events, Donnie is at risk of going into a feral “Savage” mode like Raph

Has two modes— ‘Hunter’ and ‘Scientist/Alchemist’

While hunting Donatello relies on his instincts. Becomes very aggressive and territorial.

He uses an ankylosaurus skull and other dinosaur parts as his battle shell and protective gear while hunting

When he isn’t hunting, Donnie is trying to reinvent necessities to make living in a prehistoric era a bit easier with what materials are available to him

Dino-Tello’s concept was inspired by a similar 2003 TMNT episode where they go to the past, 2003 Leatherhead, Tarzan, and the anime series ‘Dr. Stone’

His concept is meant to emphasize Donnie’s other strengths beyond technology— such as his Super-intelligence, his close-combat fighting skills, and ability to communicate with other creatures (as shown in the Todd Scouts episode)

He and his brothers tame a triceratops and name him Zog, who was both a pet and steed

For one reason or another… Donatello is the last turtle standing

However, due to classic Hamato shenanigans— ‘Dino’tello might not be all alone for too long 👀👀👀

AU where Izuku has a very overt Mutation Quirk, similar to Tokoyami or Shouji. I've considered one personally where he has a Centaur Quirk but something both very complicated to deal with in day-to-day life and something that causes him problems with anti-mutant bigotry instead of Quirkist bigotry.

Inko was born before All Might ended the Era of Chaos. Easy to forget fact. So her parents lived right in the thick of it, during the worst times, and thus it's not really that weird that they ended up joining the anti-Mutant cult. However, All Might caused a cultural shift in her generation, leading to her splitting off from her parents.

Hisashi's sister is Setsuna's mother, and Izuku inherited a reptilian Quirk from that branch of the family. While Setsuna got the ability to drop and regenerate limbs, Izuku looks like some kind of horned dinosaur (think raptor or T-Rex, or maybe Fallout Deathclaw).

Of course, there is a large difference between a cultural shift and the end of discrimination. Considering that Spinner's mutations are slightly tamer than Midoriya's and he was canonically discriminated against so hard that he became a hikikomori, I can only imagine Midoriya had a rough time of it.

Setsuna and Izuku may be cousins, but they act more like siblings. After all, Hisashi's side of the family are used to this sort of thing considering that where Izuku got it.

Setsuna actually is not a Recommendation Student in this AU because she stated that she would only accept a referral to UA if Izuku got one as well, and her would-be sponsor refused to recommend someone with a Mutation as expressed as Izuku's. They both took the regular exam and rocked it. Side note, Iida took the other recommendation spot. I don't know if or how that shuffles the classes.

Pteri or grarrl review when you have the time? Whichever out of the two you most feel like doing

(I can do both in two parts, but for right now I'll do the Pteri.)

The Pteri is one of several bird Neopets, but surprisingly all of the other birds are specific, distinct species (penguin, owl, etc.), making the Pteri surprisingly unique for just being a normal songbird. Another thing that's unique is that the Pteri has a long non-feathered tail, almost like a Zafara; a very unique addition for a bird and one that gives it a lot more flavor than it would have otherwise.

In terms of design, the Pteri uses a simple three-color palette; base color on top, creamy accents on the underbelly and inside wing, and a complimentary shade of yellow for the beak and feet. The eyes also have these unique fire-y markings to them that accent the underbelly. My only real issue with the design is that the two head feathers don't share the same shape as any of the other feathers, and look both too long and too thin to be read as just fluff. Otherwise, it's a solid design.

The Pteri hasn't changed much through conversion, outside of gaining more distinct chest fluff and slightly longer, fuller wings. I like the overall rounded shape of the original a bit more, but I also really like the 3/4s few the converted is in; having it be front-facing in the older artwork makes the details of the design harder to see. (Also, a moment of appreciation that they just subtly cupped the converted Pteri's wing instead of trying to give it hands or something. Hissi, take notes.)

Favorite Colours:

Faerie: The Faerie Pteri is simply beautiful, and everyone knows it. Instead of having butterfly wings tacked onto it, it instead runs with the bird idea by adding extra feathers to the tail, kind of like a mini peacock, and also adding more to the head and wings. It uses a gorgeous yellow as its primary color and accents it with white, orange, red, and purple, with the colors radiating outward in layers. The design also compliments the natural eye markings with additional markings around the entire eye as well as on the head and tail, and adds some lovely eye spots on the tail as well.

The converted version technically follows the same design as the original, minus the additional eye markings, but honestly the UC/styled pose shows off the markings better and has more flow to boot, making it far superior by default.

Darigan: Unlike Faerie, the converted Darigan Pteri doesn't look that great. The design is technically accurate to the original, but trying to make those features work on the default body shape just isn't happening, and a lot of detail got lost in the shading and highlights in the process.

However, the UC/styled version is really cool. It's one of the few tan Darigan pets that I don't wish were purple, with black accents for the finest feathers and red eyes for contrast. The long feathers and more raptor-like body shape really work well, and the talons on the hind feet are accented by the beak and various spikes. I also appreciate the subtle spotting.

Valentine: Not as fancy as the other two, but the Valentine's Pteri is quite nice; a mostly pink body with a subtle white gradient that transitions into heart markings. Like most good Valentine pets, it subtly integrates hearts into areas like the chest feathers, head feathers, and eye markings, and doesn't feel overly cluttered. I do think that the tail should've also been a heart, and something about the face reads as faintly sunburned to me, but it's still a nice color overall.

BONUS: The mutant Pteri is one of those mutants that's just a little too busy to be one of my all-time favs, but I do like it a lot. The cockatrice-esq body shape is super distinct and looks appropriately mutant-ish, and the teal, yellow, and red palette works great; not to mention the actual art quality is really good as well, with some lovely shading and linework. I do feel like the details should've been trimmed back—lose the long arm fingers, lose the red things on the tail (maybe just keep the final cream segment red instead), drop the patterning, maybe even make the wing feathers cream to break up the design a bit. Still, pretty good overall.

Role/Reversal Reader, I headcanon, can turn into a feathered raptor dinosaur. That's their power. Logan, back when Reader was with the X-Men/Brotherhood (before Reader found it was basically a cult) helped them get used to it, helped them hone their powers. He taught them so much, even how to keep their more dinosaur traits hidden... They feel bad, sometimes, for leaving him and the others, but then remember what he would have done to them, and what he tried to do to Victor, to his own brother...

Reader is a little raptor following Victor around, and he just let's them. This is his kid now, X-Nerds, deal with it! He struggles to keep Reader warm at times, trying to fight their fluctuating body temperature and trying to keep them from getting sick. It's not easy, keeping a part dinosaur kid from getting sick or something like pneumonia or mono or the flu from getting them... And Reader does their best to cheer up this giant mutant, hugging him and offering their feathery warmth when in dinosaur form. They even scout for danger and warn him, so they can help out!

Reader, I imagine, has a part dinosaur/part human form, where they have a tail and some feathers and claws, but otherwise appear human. They usually stay in this form when sleeping or stay in full dinosaur form, so as not to overexert their power of looking human when around other people. When asleep, Victor keeps the truck warm, and throws a blanket or two over Reader, making a small cocoon for them to huddle in. Reader sometimes sleeps on him like a cat or like a child with a parent, simply trying to keep both of them warm and to alleviate some of their touchstarved natures. They end up in a cuddle pile, when they get like this.

Logan and the others keep up the hunt for them, tracking the two across multiple states, even into Canada and Alaska, and everywhere else they go, hoping to catch them off guard and drag them back home... He misses them, and he and Xavier and the others need to keep those two with them all, within their family... It won't hurt, putting the collars on, they'll be all tired and sedated, hmm? So there's no need to panic...
