Dino-Tello’s concept was inspired by a similar 2003 TMNT episode where they go to the past, 2003 Leatherhead, Tarzan, and the anime series ‘Dr. Stone’

His concept is meant to emphasize Donnie’s other strengths beyond technology— such as his Super-intelligence, his close-combat fighting skills, and ability to communicate with other creatures (as shown in the Todd Scouts episode)

He and his brothers tame a triceratops and name him Zog, who was both a pet and steed

Still playing Skyrim. And I’m interested to report that the game is actually better than I remember, on balance. But I’m kind of fascinated by what’s going on with Lydia, mechanically and narratively.

Lydia is the first follower who gets shoved in your face just by virtue of following the main quest. There are others you can pick up earlier, but not without finishing errands (for Faendal and Sven), by forking up a pretty big chunk of change for the early game by hiring Janessa, or by going out of your way in some other manner. If you’re completely new to the game and you’re just powering through the main story as it’s presented, she’s the first option for a follower that the game highlights for you in giant blinking neon lights. And as a quest reward, she’s mechanically kind of a godsend at that point in the story; a doubling of carry capacity, an excellent meat shield and distraction, a way to extract utility from weapons and armor you don’t want to use yourself. More subjectively she provides the impression of a stalwart ally or companion in what can be a very lonely worldspace to exist in. There’s very little reason not to take her with you, and once you have her, the majority of companions being equal, there’s very little reason to get rid of her until she stops level scaling.

Despite the mechanical utility Lydia provides at a crucial point, and the resultant likelyhood that you’ll haul her along for the ride, she’s only a couple steps up from the companion cube. She has no specific, non-fungible impact on the narrative beyond demonstrating Jarl Balgruuf’s favor. Her deferral to you is automatic; if someone is actively paying her a salary to help you defile graves, cut deals with every deity on the continent and invade the afterlife, it sure as hell isn’t you. It isn’t clear what her gig under Balgruuf was before she was assigned to you. She has no personal narrative. She has no personal side quest. One of her biggest inklings of personality is when she expresses vague dissatisfaction with being treated as a pack mule, but then she does it anyway.  She’s party to world-shaking events and political upheavals, but she’s present purely in her capacity as your appendix, so reality simply treats her as your plus-one. 

She’ll block doors you’re trying to get through, and she’ll get mad at you if you push her out of the way. She’ll charge into battle or set off traps while you’re trying to sneak. She’ll microaggress you with stock Nord dialogue while pulverizing your enemies, a plurality of whom are also Nords. She’ll distract bosses long enough to buy you breathing room for a healing spell or a potion. You’ll kill her by accident with an ill-timed area-of-effect spell, roll your eyes, and, ultimately, probably reload your save. Because she might only be a couple steps up from a companion cube, but the whole gag with the companion cube is how ridiculously low the threshold is for the audience to get genuinely attached to something in a video game. A thin character invites apophenia. Behaviors that are purely downstream of dev thoughtlessness will still imply character traits if taken at Watsonian Face Value. In this case, inexplicable undying loyalty, reserved comments on impressive landmarks, and comical stoicism in the face of some of the weirdest events it’s conceptually possible to encounter.  So here’s to weird, underbaked companions in Bethesda Games, and everything we can project onto the void they provide. And Here’s to that related genus of character- units in squad-based tactics or management-sim games with permadeath mechanics who last long enough and accumulate enough equipment, skill points, etc. that they become your Special Little Guy despite otherwise lacking any deliberate character traits.

I feel like my favorite kind of artwork (shows, games, books, etc.) is the kind which is very mentally ill. It’s kind of hard to pin down what traits exactly make a work mentally ill, it’s more vibes than a science. Some things may occur frequently, but I would be hard pressed to call something an essential characteristic of works of this sort, or as by itself making it a work of the said category. Basically, what I mean is something that makes the viewer feel a bit like they are mentally ill. Some things that are commonly associated with this sort of work are surrealism, metaphor, wild art direction, and characters who are deeply unhealthy. Some examples might be revolutionary girl Utena, neon genesis Evangelion, serial experiments lain, haibane renmei, mawaru penguindrum, murakami novels, yume Nikki, and void stranger, just to name a few that come to mind.

I think that artsy phychotic projects really express something that feels very me, and I try and make my own art into something that expresses my own mental illness. These works have influenced each other cross medium, like hard boiled wonderland and the end of the world (a novel) influencing haibane renmei (an anime), but it’s hard to find a lot of cross medium or even cross-cultural recommendations for that kind of thing. I’ve been watching some anime in this category with my partner lately (with me showing some shows I like to them), and as people who’ve both had mental illness, we both appreciate this kind of thing, and I’m sure there’s others that feel the same but it’s hard to find more of this stuff without searching for weird things in each new medium and piecing through each of them to pick out the lol random stuff. What I’m saying is I really don’t think it’s useful to just recommend things based on medium or sub-culture, but also I think a lot of stuff out there needs to be more connected to things across mediums and across the world. We need to talk about aesthetic movements and how they exist cross-medium, how they influence each other.

One can see people talk about expressionist paintings, and even expressionist plays, but one hardly ever hears about expressionist anime or games (outside of references to art style perhaps). I’m assuming this might relate relate to the subculture formation around anime and games and how they focus on their respective mediums as a category into themselves, as though Japanese cartoons have some kind of set of meaningful unifying characteristics outside of medium and country of origin. I don’t think that it’s bad per se that there’s an anime community, but I think that encourages us to see it as something that is separate from the rest of the art world without questioning why we conceptualize it that way, without seeing the ways in which there’s a million little threads connecting anime to not just manga, light novels, and western animation, but also to literary novels, plays, and non-Japanese cultural products. On top of this, the fact that there’s communities based around anime makes it much easier to get exclusively anime recommendations when you have an interest in an anime, rather than recommendations based on thematic content, aesthetics, and so on without reference to medium.

Why I started to like Neon Nostrade more (and why she’s more than just a spoilt girl)

Not gonna deny it, I disliked her when I first watched the 2011 anime. It pissed me off that she was gonna sneak out and that's how Chrollo managed to steal her Lovely Ghostwriter ability - which helped him save the Phantom Troupe. By right, Kurapika was supposed to wipe half of them. BUT, let's take a closer look at her character:

1) Most people just say she's spoiled. True! Yet, if you think about it, why is the Nostrade family so affluent in the first place? It's because of her talent. She is her father's cash cow, he's the reason why he had climb through the ranks and possibly gained income. Is it wrong for the girl to shop and spend on clothes that is because of her contribution? A large part of it is her contribution. In fact, her father is the one that is using her, commercializing her talent. Usually, it's the father that churns the cash and the daughter spends it - however, we see it as the other way round.

2) Neon's upbringing is rather wayward. We don't see her mother, and her father's likely more concerned about her ability than his own daughter. Their relationship seems transactional - "you do this, I give you expensive gifts". Because of this, it seems that Neon bathes in materialism (clothes, expensive dead body parts etc.) as a way to fill the void. She actually reminds me of Daisy Buchanan from The Great Gatsby - another woman who is so despondent that she ends up prioritising materialism more (she also gets a lot of hate, but I find her really interesting!)

3) Emotional detachment from the dead. We don't really know why she has a disgusting/weird hobby of keeping dead body parts - an indirect contribution to the Kurta clan's demise. But we can infer what she thinks of people in general, and how she sees the dead. On top of materialism, it seems that Neon is emotionally detached from people in general - probably because of the lack of affections from her father. Her father's sincerity doesn't entirely appear genuine. She was more worried about the auction items when Kurapika informs her that some of her bodyguards died, and we see the rest surprised by her reaction. She actually even tells Chrollo that she does not believe in the afterlife and that her fortune-tellings are for the living. To me, this is a complete juxtaposition to Chrollo's crying when he realised that Uvogin was dead, and Kurapika's emptiness and thirst for revenge because his clan was massacred. Yet, I do think she is capable of sympathy - given her shocked reaction when she saw Eliza breaking down. It was the reason why she wanted to go home early. It seems that she lived in a bubble (maybe girlie just needs a wake-up call?), up until that moment when she saw her attendant being devastated over her lover's death.  It's actually called "Dismissive Attachment Style", which is largely influenced by how your caretaker/parent has treated you.

4) The way she behaves with her attendants/bodyguards/father vs the way she behaved around Chrollo is a stark difference. I'd argue that the whole throwing tantrums and escaping shenanigans is a manifestation of wanting attention from her father. Being surrounded by bodyguards, not being able to have the freedom and being on constant surveillance - it's exhausting. She is more genuine and laidback when she had a conversation with Chrollo. It's also surprising how she trusted a random stranger as a desperate attempt to do whatever she liked (and yes it's selfish on her side), I'd argue that it's due to living in a bubble. Unfortunately, this interaction with Chrollo is not genuine on Chrollo's side - it's mainly to steal her ability, which helped Chrollo change the fate of the Phantom Troupe members. Again, we can see that her interactions with people are mostly not genuine - most of her employees only put up with her because of their jobs, her father is more concerned with her ability, her "fans" adore her because of her fortune-telling ability etc. Even Kurapika seek employment from her because of her hobby, so that he can fulfil his mission to collect the Scarlet Eyes; and protecting her to appear more trustworthy to Light Nostrade (we eventually see Kurapika as leading the Nostrade mafia family in the current arc). It's pretty much no wonder why she's emotionally detached.

5) Emotional detachment + spoilt + materialistic + weird-ass flesh collector hobby - not really your role model or someone you could relate to. In fact, morality in Hunter x Hunter characters pretty much don't really exist or it's not clear cut? We got homicidal thieves, a kid that smashes a cat-ant's skull, a freakin' hypersexualised borderline pedo(?) clown, a family of assassins and of course my all-time favourite: the sexy chain-wielding avenger who willingly compromises his moral values to achieve his goal. But, that's kinda why I started to like her? She's so twisted in her own way (like other characters) and justifiably because of her poor upbringing - yet it appals me that many fans dislike her flaws as if she's the worst when the other characters are 10 times worse, but the same fans probably like another morally deprived character. I don't really know the reason, maybe because she's a non-fighting female character or too little screen-time? Lmao.

In fact, her actions are a foil to Kurapika's plans (that was actually the reason why I disliked her initially). Kurapika could have found Chrollo first instead of Zeno and Silva, but her father called Kurapika and he's forced to prioritise her safety. Getting her ability stolen by Chrollo changed the fate of the spiders when Kurapika was supposed to wipe out half of them (but hey, we get the spiders and they're cool). It's kinda weird how she didn't do much, yet the chain of events (pun-intended) altered for Kurapika and the Spiders.

Of course, I'm not saying you cannot dislike her. That's up to you. I guess I just wanted to share why I started to like her and also to share certain characteristics of her that people may have missed out. I'm pretty much sick of people saying that she's just a spoilt brat, she doesn't have character depth... when out of all the female characters, she's one of the few where I can actually dig deeper into her character (maybe I haven't paid attention to the rest, but even my favourite girl, Machi... can't really say I have any analysis on her). All the elements of Neon's character are there, it's just not spelt out for us.

Design and Context: Subculture Valentino Vivian

Introduction

The design has been a significant part of human society and is now a part of our lives more than ever. This is made so because of the internet and the growing popularity of social media. Anyone with a smartphone and internet can connect with the world, be it carefully taken photos or well-edited videos. Design inspiration can be taken from anywhere, like a pattern on a leaf or the specific grains on tree bark. Culture is also a significant influence on design, although, in this essay, we will investigate the influence of subcultures in design. This essay will define what a subculture is and will examine various examples of how certain subcultures influence the design and prove that subcultures in context can help provide design solutions. This essay will discuss multiple subcultures that birthed new forms of design.

Defining Subcultures 

In this section, we will discuss the definition of subculture and its characteristics. The more commonly known definition of subcultures is “the concept of a subculture implies a minority culture that is of subordinated and secondary nature in relation to a dominant majority culture” (Zackariasson et al., 2014). Based on this definition, a subculture is based on a long-standing culture like music, fashion and architecture and adopting certain practises or beliefs of that culture that do not necessarily match with the original culture. Subculture in this regard is similar to a group of friends going to the cinema to watch a movie, but one group does not like the choice of the movie by the group, so then they would decide to watch a different movie. 

Making reference to the definition of culture is “the ideas, customs, and social behaviour of a particular people or society.” (Oxford Language). From this definition, Nathan Bolton state that these subcultures are in opposition to accepting the customs and ideas social behaviour of the culture in question (Boltan, 2012). He uses a study that focused on gang crime in working-class American teens, the culture in which they derive from gang culture in America, although they were mostly anti-utilitarian. These troubled teenagers would be able to relate to one another by sharing their short time crime stories/experiences “ The gang inverted the values of the majority culture, deliberately pursuing the mirror image of the American dream.” (Boltan, 2012) 

A book that is focussed on the subject of consumer behaviour defines subculture as “people who share a set of secondary values” (Niosi, n.d.) The definition states that one can be part of one or many different subcultures, but the individual is part of a larger community within a smaller community. What places people in subcultures are based on Material culture, social institution, beliefs, aesthetics and language as this makeup much larger, broader cultures like music, Christianity and the French-speaking population. Subcultures are also formed based on a trait that is very different from society; for example, Vegans are a subcultural group that believes that its wrong to consume animal products and, in doing so, has an effect on climate change. Vegans are different or have a trait that others do not.

When defining subcultures, there are some definitions that are positive and others that have negatives connotations. When referring to the negative connotations, it is usually stated that the smaller group within a larger culture do not agree with their belief or ideals of that culture. As an act of rebellion, they form their own group, which then becomes its own culture within another culture. When referring to the positive connotations, this is more so in the commercial field. This is where success is attained by a brand where there are a large variety of people from around the world of different beliefs, languages and aesthetics, just to name a few (Zackariasson et al., 2014). An example of this positive connotation can be seen with the Sony Playstation community; Sony’s Playstation 4 is one of the highest selling consoles of the past four years. They were able to do this within the gaming community. There is a subculture in gamer who prefer the PlayStation 4 over other consoles, thus creating more subcultural in terms of games.

The significance of Subculture in identifying and solving a design problem

The first argument is that pop culture caters to the mainstream but forgets about those not in mainstream society; this would then create a void of diversity in the design field. If all designers were to design with a pop culture mentality, a large majority of the designs the world would be exposed to would all be the same or have taken a similar approach. If we look at the economic point of view, if companies used one method of solving design solutions, it will show in their designs, not only that, but it would be difficult to interest investors as one would see that there is no difference in the design approach.

Subcultures allow designers to view the design problem through a different lens as they would typically do. Subcultures are various ways that people consider a topic or culture; this then breeds room for diversity in design. By using or designing with subcultures in mind, then broadens the skillset for designers, allowing them to venture into new ways of designing. As an example, if a designer were to start using elements of the Hip hop subculture in their design, they see how bold fonts would work with specific colours. Another way in which subcultures are essential to design is that they inform the designer on the connotations of certain elements, colours objects. An example could be that in mainstream culture, Monster energy drink can be viewed as the second-best energy drink, whereas in the skater culture, Monster is the best, and nothing compares.

Music is one of the most diverse phenomena; the sharing, critiquing, and enjoyment of music is one of the primary activators for subculture groups. Discussions are had, and opinions are formed, dividing people into these subcultures. Due to these many subcultures being created, there is an untapped market for designers. “ designers translate this idea of a music and internet subcultural “scene” into a product design worthy of those individuals amerced within theses subcultural groups.” (Allen, 2009) The creation of these products allows more people to be made aware of these other subcultures that one could identify with, thus increase and growing that specific subculture.

It is essential for designers to know about subcultures and what subcultures bare good prospects. Having knowledge of subcultures is essential in terms of inclusivity. It is well documented that member of the LGBTQ community have been scrutinised over the years, and this community also serves as a subculture. In 1905 the arrow man was created by J.C Leyendecker, which revolutionise design and advertising. The illustration was placed on many magazine covers; the man is said to be the J.C Leyendecker partner, which means that the arrow man is the first homosexual male to make it onto magazine covers. As a result of this design, making it on the magazine cover made the public at the time know that there is a subculture or community where homosexual males are welcomed, and that pop culture is evolving to include them. Design helps inform and influence the public, steer change. (Martin, 2019)Examples of successful application of  in spatial design

Skatehalle, Berlin, Germany

Skatehalle is a wooden skate park located in Berlin, German. Skatehalle is a space purposefully designed for the enjoyment of the skater community. The park is made up of ramps, rails and bowls all used to perform tricks. In the skater culture, they value creativity, risk and freedom, which are very prominent in the park's designs. Their bright, colourful murals express the core values of skaters pushing risk. Skatehalle is effective in the sense that because of the ever-growing skate culture, some or most cities did not approve as it was seen as a delinquent activity. As a result, many skateparks were built and are still popular to this day  

Spodek Arena

The Spodek Arena is a multipurpose arena located in Katowice Poland. This arena annually hosts the IEM Katowice Esports tournament. The arena is designed to cater to the need of the Esport gaming community. In these tournaments teams play games like Dota and League of legends for Trophies, these are highly sponsored event. Elements that make this space for the subculture of Esports gamer is that they have multiple large screens and seating from the floors to the rafters for maximum amount of spectator. This type of design ia effective because many gamer set ups use neon light set ups and most the time the gamers are in their rooms doing extraordinary things with no audience, so the arena is designed in such a way that these factor are non existent.  

 Conclusion

The study and knowledge of subcultures are significant as this knowledge will help any, and all designers reach different audiences. Having knowledge about different subcultures can also help designers find new ways to approach design problems using elements from different subcultures to create new and impactful designs. When designing, it is also important to know what certain elements of a specific culture or subculture mean in order not to offend or give off the wrong messages. Subcultures are a significant part of the design.

7: What are you most proud of?

i’m proud of publishing my work. i’ve been writing creatively for years (fic and non fic), but i never had to courage to publish anything until recently. I think that publishing / reading fic is so rote in most fandoms that we forget how vulnerable authors make themselves when they toss their art into the internet void. Writing is an expression of an author’s soul, and all art seeks to provide some greater understanding. As such, publishing is so fragile, so vulnerable, and so brave -- the author is saying, here, this is part of me that i want to share with part of you. 

(also my anxiety tells me lots of shit so personally it represents me not buying into the lies of not being good/talented/creative/etc enough). 

fic-wise, I’m really proud of breathless.

8: What is your biggest challenge?

ahahaha. I definitely struggle with intentional longer wips. I can often be inspired to continue a one-shot to the point where it becomes something more substantial (that’s how my unpublished OC came about, actually), but sitting down and coming up with an outline for a multi-chapter? my brain straight up short circuits. I also want to work on integrating different narrative forms and making a conscious effort to write characters that have diversity of thought and intention. 

9: How would you describe your writing style?

This is a super interesting question. I’m not sure how well I’ll explain this, but in both fic and non fic writing, I like to describe what makes something what it is. if I say “when he spoke, there was anger in his voice,” I want to explore how we know that as human beings. What’s telling us he’s angry? What is his body doing? What else is going on? 

An example from a current wip: “Ben takes your hand and places it on his thigh as you speak. the two of you are straddling a lacquered yellow beach chair, offensive in its self-confidence.” 

what i’m saying, of course, is that the beach chair is a shocking shade of bright yellow. but what I wanted to get at is why a neon yellow beach chair can be called “shocking,” why it makes (most of) us uncomfortable. I think a lot of my work comes down to exploring the relationship between disparate parts and some whole and if/how they can be integrated. how can we make sense of all the things that happen to us? what constitutes a whole? can we pick and choose these things? how can we relate to one another, and to ourselves?

i don’t want enough, i want it all

Pairing: Nisha/Badass Bandit, Handsome Jack/Nisha  Content Rating: Mature Author’s Note: It's been a long while since I've wrote anything outside of research papers and assignments, especially fanfiction. This is the beginning to the dysfunctional relationship between Nisha and Jack, attempting to keep in tune with the events of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and fill in the void between Nisha and Jack becoming the power couple. Features some non-canon events regarding Nisha.

Content under a read more as it contains mature themes: sexual relations, slight bdsm, death by strangulation.

The slender legs of the lawbringer hung lazily off of Jack's desk, swinging in conjunction with the Eye of Helios' barrage against Pandora's geostationary moon, Elpis. Jack's office was filled with constant noise as if it wasn't the laser, it was the bickering and teasing between the vault hunters, or Jack screaming in frustration about any and every little thing. The vault hunters generally argued about whose shift it was to keep watch while the others slept but this time it was over something decent which was why Athena opted to spend her moonstones on backpack storage when she should have spent them more efficiently on ammo storage. Nisha tuned out the sounds of them bickering and the click clack of Jack's keyboard as he focused on restoring Hyperion controls back to him. 

The vibrations caused by the eye's powerful laser forced a sigh to escape her tight lipped mouth, the click clack of the keyboard stopping very briefly as their eyes met. The boss man averted his gaze rather quickly, resuming his important work. Her thoughts traveled elsewhere as her gaze remained on the man who hired her. He was everything she hated: a bad shot. Their first meeting was him getting the shit kicked out of him by Dahl forces. To her, Jack was a pathetic little worm who had crawled his way thought the cracks of Hyperion to become its supervisor or whatever generic power title he held. Rich folks were something else since they hired for protection. Despite her uninterest in him, it was painfully obvious to her and the other vault hunters that he was interested in pursuing a more intimate relationship with her more so than just boss and employee but everything about Jack was laughable and his honeyed words weren’t appealing to someone like her. 

Her attraction to Jack began naturally in the Meriff’s office in Concordia. There was nothing more attractive to her than violence, and Jack murdering the Meriff after his failed assassination attempt against Jack lit a fire in her belly. Jack had fired with such precision that his bullet hit the Meriff square between the eyes. The lifeless body fell to the ground with a thud that echoed through the office as blood pooled from entrance wound. “That’s beautiful” the lawbringer purred into Jack’s left ear as he shouted in frustration about the Meriff, something about letting him live if he hadn’t attempted to murder him. The look on Jack’s face in response to her praise was something wicked. He would attempt to earn her praise with each and every action he would take from then on.

Nisha had seen that wicked look of his several times since then and each time it made her heart beat a little faster. The look she loved the most was his seething glare. Those fucked up blue and green eyes would lock with her piercing yellow ones no matter how poorly lit their surroundings were. They were drawn to each other instantly like rathyds to fresh corpses. She was fond of the memory in which she first received that look from Jack. He had followed her exit from Moxxi’s Up and Over bar where inside the vault hunters celebrated the beginnings of their accomplishments on Elpis, on Jack’s expense of course. 

She had exited the bar after quickly becoming annoyed by the casual conversation between the vault hunters and Moxxi. That smug look on that clown sluts face as she leaned closer and closer to Jack every time she rounded the table to supply more booze to the vault hunters. On her way out through a back entrance near the dancefloor she kicked Claptrap extra hard in her frustration hopefully leaving a dent in his outer panel. Nisha was very aware that Jack had a relationship with Moxxi since it was due to Moxxi’s help that they were able to track and shut down the jamming signal on Elpis. Was this jealousy? She needed to get from them…from everything…from herself. Maybe a trip to Crazy Earls would stabilize her since she couldn’t exactly shoot anyone point blank in the face while in town. These were civilized folks after all.

“Nisha! Wait up…” the sound of Jack’s voice reminded her of a puppy she had kicked in the face, whining and yelling as it scrambled to get out of her way, tripping over its own two front paws.

“Huh?” she questioned lazily, still proceeding to Crazy Earl’s but at a reduced pace so that the boss man could catch up to her before she reached the establishment. Jack had legs for days, as she recalled some of the citizens whispering about in hushed tones when he first fast traveled to this shithole of a town, so it took merely seconds for him to catch up with her. There was a firm grip on her arm and suddenly she was being spun around. He had pushed her backwards and her back made contact with the security gate of the closed Dahl vendor. There was such a fire in his eyes and she was immediately drawn in.

Their lips met in a feverish but clumsy act, his body pressing hard against her in an effort to keep her pinned beneath him knocking her into the security gate repeatedly. This was a laughable attempt at whatever it was and so she did laugh, manically, as she sunk her claws into his hair, gripped, and yanked his face away from hers by his hair. Oh, it had to hurt, but it hurt good, at least when she was on the receiving end.  Jack on the other hand was taken aback, almost dazed and confused. He didn’t know what she wanted; she wanted to see him in agony, covered in his own blood, crying, and with fear in those beautiful eyes of his. 

She got real close, pressing her lips to his well-defined Adam’s apple as she spoke.

“’re nothing to me – nothing but the mud on my boot if ‘re lucky but ‘re not” She hissed at him, lips trailing from his Adam’s apple to the crook of his neck. Her sharp teeth biting into his neck seemed to have caught him by surprise, instinctively trying to pull away from her but she wouldn’t let him move an inch as her grip on his shit and jacket tightened in her hands. It was that metallic taste of blood that sent shivers down her spine. 

Back in the reality that was Jack’s office, the other vault hunters had settled down from their bickering to clean their weapons or reload them or whatever their maintenance requirement was. Nisha was a simpler gal, a Jackob’s Iron in one hand and a bullwhip in the other. She didn’t need to rely on any fancy technology like the rest of them. She pushed herself off of Jack’s desk with an enthusiastic hop, the soles of her boots tapping the floor echoed in between the silence of the eye’s laser. They really needed to shut down the eye but each of them were at their limits as it was and required a few hours of rest and relaxation, which seemingly frustrated the boss man further. Athena and Wilhelm occupied the chairs in the office’s lounge surrounded by hundreds of books and a fireplace. It would have been cozy if the office didn’t feature vaulted ceilings, two large fountains and probably wasn’t made all out of metal.

She felt the eyes on her back as she walked towards the floor to ceiling window that had the most prominent display of Elpis that anyone could pay for. As her hand made contact with the glass, the eye struck again in its effort to destroy the geostationary moon. While the others were participating in a valiant effort to save Elpis, Nisha was more interested in killing people. The neon purple glow was intoxicating and if it just happened to shatter Elpis before they could shut it down, so be it. Sure, there were some good folks, like Janey, but it was mostly populated by bandits – and she hated bandits. Although, she would be out of a job then and also be penniless. Not great.

She focused on the memory of Jack giving her that look she loved, that seething one filled with anger - the one that twisted her stomach into knots and drenched her cotton panties in excitement.

“Ya’ wanna dance with me, huh?” That maniac laughter filled the air between them. Nisha had danced with many partners, those who met her standards at least. Jack was nothing like her regular partners, since they were usually dying a slow and painful death. There was one particular partner that came to mind on Pandora that challenged her and had even crippled her into submission. He was a real badass, literally. He had snapped the bone in her leg like it was a twig, towering over her with threats of how he was going to kill her. While she wasn’t one to plead, she asked for a sole request: to fuck her. Bandits thought with their dicks, as did most men. He dragged her through that shithole town by her hair to where he had staked his claim in a shabby wooden shack reinforced with sheet metal. While many would kick and scream and make an effort to escape, she began to hatch a plan in order to become victorious. Sure, she may not have come out victorious if her plan went wrong but that was the thrill of the game of life after all.

Nisha tugged at Jack’s shirt, bringing him down to her level. “I strangled the last partner who thought he could dance with me,” she cooed in his ear, omitting the part where he broke her leg, dragged her back to some shack and proceeded to strip her down. While it was her idea, the badass entertained her by whipping her with her own bullwhip. First it lashed against her back and then her legs. She drew pleasure from the pain, but it was even better when it cracked against her plump behind. As foreplay proceeded, he rolled her over onto her back and whipped her a few more times before shoving his dick in her mouth. 

Eventually he attempted to fuck her but bandits were stupid folks. He left her bullwhip in arms reach and it took mere seconds to crack the whip so tightly around his neck. Nothing says personal than strangulation. She dressed as quick as she could with her broken leg and did what anyone would do, retrieve her pistol and shoot that fucker right between the eyes. She limped her way back to the outrunner parked outside of the shithole bandit town and drove away. 

“I don’t think ya’ can dance with me, partner” She smiled, planting a hard-enough kiss to his cheek that it left an imprint of her lipstick. She pushed him away from her with such ferocity that he fell backward onto the streets of Concordia. This was probably grounds for that seething look of hatred alone, but since it hadn’t appeared on that handsome face of his – she knew one thing that would sour anyone in an instant.

Without a second thought, she spat on his face. And there it was, that look that made her weak. Nisha returned to Moxxi’s with a grin on her face as soon as she turned her back to the boss man, no longer interested in sorting through Crazy Earl’s inventory to ease her troubled mind. Her entrance was celebrated by her follow vault hunters, who had seemingly one to many making them boisterous with laughter. But Jack’s entrance, she’d never forget that seething look of hatred as her eyes followed his from the entrance to the time he sat down at the same table her and her fellow vault hunters. It appeared he had quickly attempted to clean himself up, but in reality, all he had been able to do was smear the imprint of lipstick she had left on his cheek.

Maybe he wouldn’t be so bad.

Nisha hummed in appreciation as she returned to the present and returned to her position perched on Jack’s desk. He was visibly agitated, probably from a variety of reasons and hopefully her presence was one of them. Yet he continued to focus on his work as the click clack of the keyboard remained constant. The lawbringer grew bored, since she wasn’t getting shot at or was shooting someone and the other’s needed rest but she was alert, awake, and raring to go. So with a grin on her face she whispered as she leaned in real close to the boss man:

"Got only one question: Who do we hurt next?"

ok so i was driving my brothers car and i have my g1 i went to money mart and back home about an hour later police came knocking on my door asking if my brother was in a car accident so we went down to the station and the officer asked if i was driving his car i said yes , he then said that the other man that was sitting in the station got my plates and said i hit his car and cracked his bumper (very minor crack) so i said no and then officer assumed i was lying and made me write up an accident report. after when i was leaving the station the other guy asked if we could solving this without going through insurance so we exchanged numbers (their was no damage at all to my brothers car & no paint or anything on their car to prove i hit it) the next day they called and said the want a whole new bumper they dont want it patched up and they would get me a price quote they then got me a quote for $1475 for a while new bumper from ford i told them im not paying that much the only way im replacing the bumper is if my mechanic does it he said ok so i went to my mechanic told him the whole situation and he said i shouldnt be replacing the whole bumper for somthing that small but he still ordered the bumper for me i had to put a $400 down payment for the bumper and $300 after its put on. the bumper came in 2 days later and they brought their car for it to be put on when we got there they got pissed off and said this isnt a bumper straight from ford and they dont want it and left ( the bumper was brand new for the same model car and had the exact paint coat match just that it wasnt from ford) they then call me threating to take it through insurance if we dont get it from ford so i lost the $400 down payment for the bumper because they cant return it after its painted so i told my mechanic to order it from ford. but when he called for they said the dont have bumpers for that model anymore, i then call the people back and told them to take it through insurance because my mechanic cant get that bumper. So what will happen to my brothers insurance hes under 25 with his g2, and i had my g1 but it was on private property where they said the incident occurred the officer even said he cant charged me because its private property PLEASE HELP!""

Pedestrian was hit by my car while crossing a road located within a private property (a community college) in Brampton, Ontario (Canada) 2. I was in no position to clearly see the pedestrian in advance as the pedestrian suddenly appeared from behind the huge pile of snow on the side of the road. The pedestrian was walking from the parking lot and came onto the road from a blind spot. 3. I was driving at 30kms/hrs and saw the pedestrian just before I hit the pedestrian. 4. The pedestrian was NOT using the designated pedestrian crosswalk but was jaywalking on the road in attempt to cross the road. 5. I applied brakes as soon as I saw the pedestrian on my way but the pedestrian got hit by the time finished applying the breaks. I think my car came in contact with the pedestrian when the car had almost stopped possibly causing the minimum impact. Pedestrian seemed to be all right (not injured) but was slightly in pain due to the hit as my car hit her in the thigh. She did not fall down and was still able to walk (but was crying due to the shock) 6. I called 911 (both cops and ambulance) and they didnt charge me with offence. 7. The Police Officer concluded that it was not my fault after he confirmed with the witnesses that I actually tried to stop the car and that the pedestrian was jaywalking and not using the pedestrian walk for cross the road. The cop mentioned that I would have been charged if I were not driving on a private property. The building security also concluded that I was not at fault. 8. The police accident report makes no mention of my fault. 9. The paramedics concluded that pedestrian was not injured and was all right but they took her to the hospital anyway (for check up since the pedestrian seemed to have some pain in the thigh) My question is  Although, I was not ticketed or charged, would MY INSURANCE GO UP? Tune-Yards I can feel you creep into my private life [4AD; 2018] Rating: 2/5 You could listen to the album’s songs, you could listen to the man on the bench. You could listen to both: “I don’t shake hands anymore. What should I do?” What is there to do? I spin these doubting sounds (a voice, familiar but far off, “don’t trust me”), a shiver in this gristle; I can feel you creep into my private life and I don’t like you there. This I is influenza, all sneaking fevers, a contagious loneliness that can’t get out of its own body. Ever unrevealed, I feel lost in myself listening. I lie, listless. Connection could be myth. Communication might be fallacy. If I look at my hands, will I see things worth working? What hope is there in hands? A reminder, a mission: in doubt and loss, we turn to art, that most essential mechanism of relating tensions. Between inks and papers, sounds and ears, song and body, and hand and drum, our arts relate the space between individual maker and the community world that the maker exists in. An art of humanity proposes imaginary solutions to real-time crises. When we feel lost, it’s our hands that spark conduit, conduce artifacts to light homes out of our doubts. “We beg art to allow us to annex it into our lives in order to patch up our individual voids and our collective ones,” our own Adam Rothbarth wrote in reference to The National’s Sleep Well Beast. Like Adam’s words, like The National’s aching architectures of loss-renewing, art sketches not only our hopes, but a legend for how to hope. Tune-Yards, the pop project of Merril Garbus and longtime collaborator Nate Brenner, has largely existed as an able and energetic chronicler/challenger of that hope between void and annex. On 2009’s BiRd BrAiNs, they struck out in bold sharp lo-fi lines. “What if my own skin makes my skin crawl?” Garbus begs on “Fiya,” before admitting, with a heave, “You’re always on my mind.” Self- doubt/desire, a human body’s apprehensions, became a site for exploration, and 2011’s W H O K I L L was an incendiary, lighting it up and blowing it down, building on Tune-Yards’ percussive bass blasts but imbuing the project with a propulsive scale of self and community. On album-opener “My Country,” Garbus (with that voice) intones like Ginsberg before her, “My country ‘tis of thee, sweet land of liberty/ How come I cannot see my future within your arms?” It’s a devastating couplet with which to open an alternative pop LP, a mission statement for exploring the spaces between self and country and stick and surface: Tune-Yards promised percussion for introspection, a dancing for repair, not decadence. Sirens and gangs and Oakland woes and slick sax drops imbued W H O K I L L with immediacy and joy. And if Tune-Yards, they of mismatched fonts and painted faces, sometimes crafted sounds that bit hard on Afrobeat and Fela and all kinds of traditionally non-white sonic traditions, it was at least biting done for boldness, usually in honesty with personal visions and self-aspirations, culminating in 2014’s nikki nak, which, if weirder and unwieldy-er, hit harder and bit sharper. Tune-Yards had carved the room in all their influences for Garbus’s rapid vocal percussions and Brenner’s fuzzed bounce-bass. Everything got neon naked and eked absurdity like Pee-wee, more evidence of a high-stakes confidence and music for transforming self in worlds to: “When I see you changing, I believe that I could change too.” Change is something to believe in, a thing grand enough to believe in if you want to get out of bed in the morning, if you want to sleep at all in these nights. Change is the measure of the space between annex and void, between maker and canvass. Tune-Yards have lived by the trajectory of change, a tightening of drumheads and a narrowing of scrutiny that has, until this point, led them to increasingly fertile and exciting sounds. Their fourth release is called I can feel you creep into my private life. It changes the sounds of the band from the bombastic elastic to the crouched minor. It changes the hopes of the band from boundless to restrictive. It limps, self-conscious and careful: who has a hand in hope, anyway? “It’s nicer to hug anyways, and it’s more sanitary.” The story of the change is all over. The Tune-Yards project underwent severe self-atomization and analysis, and the ensuing life-work yield is awkward, wayward, and flat. I can feel you creep into my private life is postured as a piercing of white privilege, the result of its maker (Garbus, it feels, in the songs and promotions, is still the loudest voice here) undergoing months of guided meditation race-awareness training to craft a statement of pop whiteness in the heady cloud of 2018 sounds. “Honesty” promises the meditative (“Close your eyes/ Get in touch with the physical sensations coursing through your body”), and “Now as Then” self-questions (“Oh, don’t trust me/ That I won’t take all the money and run”), and “ABC 123” bold-faces (“I ask myself, ‘what should I do?’/ But all I know is white centrality”). “Colonizer” is a clompy sort of pastiche that snatches the beats and bumps of past Tune-Yards compositions and debases them: “I use my white woman’s voice to tell stories of travels with African men.” None of those songs crackle or sneer. There’s no joy in the drop of lead single “Heart Attack,” just a bored, stern reminder that things aren’t okay. There’s no specificity in “Look at Your Hands,” no admission that an American peoples’ history is of mistakes and misappropriations, that we don’t want sanctimonious confessional so much as we want engagement with the previously unengaged. Whiteness isn’t a default and can only exercise supremacy against an other; in the absence of that other, whiteness assumes a supremacy that no one else has agreed to acknowledge. That no black voices appear on an album full of white-on-white engagement with whiteness isn’t surprising, really. It is disappointing. I can feel you creep into my private life’s drums and rhythms are programmed and postured (likely the result of Garbus’s interest in learning to DJ), and the songs stretch and lay when they might be better served by snapping and cracking, like they do on “Bizness” or “Water Fountain.” An omission of self and stake, I can feel you creep into my private life lacks any self-skin in the game, claiming care but ending in the careful: in being careful to not to say too much, the songs spend too long saying nothing. In restricting her usually keen instinct for percussive word (the thing that hits) and voice in the world (the hit thing that resonates and echoes), Garbus and company have crafted a piece claiming grace that does not stick, by our ears or in our bones. Worse than that, I can feel you creep into my private life may actually fall victim to a-proportioned and appropriated evils it seeks to be supersensitive to. Like, shouldn’t an album hyper-engaged with white appropriation find some degree of trouble with calling a song “ABC 123” without ever admitting that the Jackson 5’s “ABC” exists already in the universe? Shouldn’t an album attuned to pop colonialism/white response find trouble with a despondent line like, “I ask myself, ‘What should I do?’/ But all I know is white centrality”? I can feel you creep into my private life doesn’t leave room for hope, suggesting that songs of pierced white privilege should remain segregated from the community they were written in light of. The sound ends with Garbus’s calls, “I’m free, I’m free; the end sounds with reminders, “Don’t tell me I’m free”, a careful hopelessness. A reminder, a mission: good people before good songs. By all accounts (and there are a lot of them; when self-improvement is subsumed in self-promotion, nobody feels good), Merril Garbus has undertaken a serious and severe attempt to chase what she views of essential self-work: she will see her white privilege at work, she will realize and re-realize the fullest extent of all her micro-biases, she will actually and really integrate her new consciousness into this world’s conversation. We the hoping and hopeless beautiful monstrous bodies on this spaceship Earth need more drive to self-awareness. An artist like Garbus’s restless voice and relentless self-pursuits remain essential in the year when Eminem and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri remain the critical standard for white honesty. You can’t have care without being careful. But wow does the ensuing album strain and stain and scab the care. To claim any degree of “wokeness” will always risk presenting that woke consciousness boldly and triumphantly in place of the underrepresented. By re-contextualizing a crisis of racial identity wholly by tracking how that crisis impacts Tune-Yards’ white art, I can feel you creep into my private life inadvertently suggests that white voices merit and mandate (increased) attention and space. Self-re-assessment is a consistently essential tool for any privileged party; that Tune-Yards spend song after song dwelling on their own whiteness only enlivens the myth that white voices are the ones worth listening to, the stuff of celebrated pop LPs. “I don’t wanna, I don’t wanna/ Hear my voice, hear my voice,” “Private Life” swears, in the same voice its always heard and said with. Trevor Noah lights a generous grace: “Sometimes people can be so woke though, that they almost like, undermine what they were trying to undo in the first place by mistake.” “But it also has a lot of soul.” I think it will get better, for Merril Garbus, for Tune-Yards, for us. The ethos has been “find a new way.” Good people and good work are the good things, the matter that keeps the whole web of making creating taking misusing celebrating a strong and brilliant thing. An ethos of making without a focus on carefulness brings us into abuse. I’ve written too many words on this album probably: excess and time are part of my privilege, and like Merril Garbus, I’m trying to track that slippery vicious thing, trying to be human first and best. Should I can feel you creep into my private life have taken greater pains to use a heading of honesty over appropriation to address the as-yet unaddressed African influences of Tune-Yards’ white art? Maybe. “What if my own skin makes my skin crawl?” Is Garbus poaching Ladysmith Black Mambazo’s “Shaka Zulu” when she sings “reveal yourself, reveal yourself” on “Private Life”? Maybe it’s not “not where you take it from, where you take it to” and maybe it’s more “not where you take it from, but that you give it back.” Tune-Yards sound afraid to give themselves back to the world in these songs. But there’s so much fear already. We need embrace, boldness. The soul of art, the mechanism behind hope and the bridge between our depraved voids and exuberant annexes, is community. Between maker and canvass, between artist and audience, community is forged and reforged, our best weapon against hate and loss. I can feel you creep into my private life takes great pains to cut itself off from the community, focusing instead on two singulars: the white artist Garbus doesn’t want to be and the white artist Garbus can’t help but be. In the highlights from the piece (a slinking “Now as Then,” a messy but breaking-through “Free”), Garbus suggests that the white supremacy we exist in isn’t exclusively damning to people of color. That statement, like I can feel you creep into my private life, has a hard time getting beyond a status of being supreme already, but it’s a messy stab at humbleness, a stab at piercing the problem of our age, the institutionalized hate we have to deal with if there is to be hope and dancing and pop music. On “Heart Attack,” she cries a little: “I’m only human,” and if that’s the standard we hold everyone to equally, we might find a new way to be humans first and best. Look at your hands and hope on hopes. Wring your world and reveal your self. "Acolyte" Michelangelo has joined the group chat

Hailing from his own alternate reality, "Acolyte" Mikey & his brothers had a very different childhood than the mad Dogs we all know and love. Set in a feudal Japan-esque world, Mikey and his brothers were raised under the Ninja Tribunal in a remote temple as future protectors of humanity...

However, fate was unkind to the lackadaisical Michelangelo who doubted the legend of the foretold 'Krang Invasion'-- let alone it happening much sooner than anticipated.

Inspired by the 2003 "Acolyte" Arc, Mikey and his brothers were given to the Ninja Tribunal as children to raise as warriors on account of being gifted with mystic abilities; something very rare and unheard of in their universe.

Mikey was the most mystically inclined of his brothers. Because of this, he doesn't take training very seriously. He's also the oldest brother in his universe, but takes that role very, very seriously.

Splinter was their "father"... however, he was the one who gave them to the Ninja Tribunal. And they weren't exactly 'lenient' with children. Not when their purpose was to become warriors to defend the world. Because of this, Mikey hates Splinter. With every fiber in his body.

But despite their upbringing, Mikey was fun and kind.

However, due to events during the invasion... Mikey is the last man standing. On the whole planet.

And he Snaps

With elevated powers and grief, Mikey traverses the heavens to hunt Krang and their settlements.

He uses dried Krang blood as his mask, having lost his in battle (and Krang blood dries orange when oxidized)

He dots his yellow spots with a drop of Krang blood to mirror Krang eyes. Using mystic abilities, the faux eyes can move and "look" around too. Terrifying.

However, due to classic Hamato shenanigans— 'Acolyte' Mikey may find himself drawn to a very, very different place than a Krang settlement 👀👀👀
