I should archive my own lore notes as well, since I have the power of tumblr's tag system at my fingertips (makes posts easier to find and archive).

important world building concepts to understand wuthering waves lore:

frequencies: everything in wuwa is made of sound waves, and all world building stems from this concept. weapons are sound waves, people are sound waves, even concepts like fear and war are convertible to sound waves. everything is sound waves, also called frequencies. all frequencies can be transformed or distorted. frequencies also decay over time (ending in silence) and are usually not stable for long. this is why waveplates deplete over time, and why we use crystal solvents to stabilize.

resonators: some humans can directly manipulate vibrating frequencies (create "reverberations"), which gives them special powers that alter reality. for example: havoc rover can transform literal sound into feather blades, or gather them into an attack.

the lament: there is an ongoing calamity known as "the lament" (literally: music about grief) which causes destructive reverberations and other phenomena. the lament is what changed solaris-3 and reduced everything to sound-based physics, as well as brought waveworn phenomena like the etheric sea and tacet discord outbreaks.

remnant energy: holds "memories" but it's probably more likely that they are "stable" frequencies that haven't decayed or lost information or been distorted. aalto in act v: "various events across space and time from every dimension are recorded in the form of remnant energy." retroact rain is condensed remnant energy from the etheric sea. with these in mind, we can now think of reverberations as frequencies that have started the process of decaying, or frequencies that are no longer stable.

frequencies are data: frequencies can linger and be stored or act as data. frequencies are information. when tacet discords are defeated, their lingering frequencies create "echoes" of themselves. everyone except rover will store this as data in the gourd, and are able to use echoes in battle by simulating that data. this concept also allows us to simulate environments and events from memories. interaction with retroact rain and sonoro spheres can simulate the past because they contain the data and we "resonate" with them. when retroact rain happens over a large area, illusions pulled from the memories of multiple people can manifest at once. aalto explains that this is similar to how resonators "resonate" with the world as well. another example is the tower of adversity, which is a man-made sonoro sphere meant for simulating battles for the purposes of training.

frequencies can combine/converge: for example, rover can absorb echoes (others just store them in the gourd). tacet discords feed on other frequencies to keep themselves stable — hence why they attack us or even each other. they can also learn to mimic the frequencies they absorb often. ovathrax absorbs weapon frequencies from the norfall barren. from here, we can see why threnodians are more powerful than normal tacet discords. "if civilizations represent mankind's collective will, the threnodians embody our fears and struggles." threnodians can feed on the collapsed will of humanity (remember, everything is made of frequencies, and I really mean everything), and crownless and dreamless (ovathrax) fed on frequencies of "war" which is always abundant especially since the lament started

tacet fields: where tacet discords originate. longer dormant periods mean that the tacet discords are weaker. tacet fields connect to an "unknown space" through a white resonance cord, and feature a tacet mark and the etheric sea. now, who else do we know came from an unknown space with a tacet mark and "fell" (was pushed by a goddess) from the etheric sea?

convenes: I also think it's interesting that the way convenes works is that we created a white resonance cord and pull someone from the etheric sea. if you fight the crownless, you have interact with the resonance cord as well. really makes you wonder if threnodians and tacet discords are really any different from resonators. they both resonate with other frequencies. but what makes a resonator's own frequency more stable than a tacet discord, who has to keep feeding on others to be stable?

Stray Gods - not on sale on PS, but given the set up, I think Dad would maybe enjoy it? I'm not sure.

Another Crab's Treasure - I've been wanting to play a Soulslike, and this is not only Baby's First Soulslike, but it also gives me options to make it less Soulslike if that ends up not being something I like (notably, there's an easy mode with a gun, which is probably like easy mode in UDG when you can just play as Jack the entire time); I've seen the first area and bits of the second and it's SUPER cute. I'm just...debating.

But also like. I still have Stein's;Gate that I've barely touched and TWEWY 2 that I haven't touched and the rest of Sonic X Shadow and like. Why am I buying more games.

The writing of women in Drakengard is rlly amazing where YT is at the helm bc in DOD1 you have them making all the right decisions with the themes, story, etc. and them going "oh that was fucking AWFUL, we're never doing that again wtf were we thinking lol" and then they're like "this is how you make a REAL videogame woman" and pull shit from a horses ass

Commissioned Art by ShrimpHeby! My Nier Automata OC who is a Battle unit Android that expresses far more emotions than most androids. Is flirty, a little mischievous, and loves to call people “Darling.” Is protective of humans and androids alike and despises machines. In fact she gets a bit of a joy killing them.

If she becomes very attached to someone she can turn a little Yandere and become over protective. Thinks humans are super fragile and should never fight anything unless she is there.

How do they fall in love?

just a fun little prompt, only adam and eve bc they are the bestest characters and i want to indulge myself okay. .....

When Adam falls in love, it is slow; like a river flowing through the woods. He is careful, he is deliberate; but then he cannot help but continue thinking of this person who has so captured his attention.

He certainly knows of humanity's courtship rituals, but that doesn't mean that he knows how to implement them.

Adam is awkward as much as he is elegant; only Eve knows how nervous you can make him.

Loving him is staying up sharing stories of your history, its days spent in the Copied City meticulously going through his books to help him understand the next topic that confuses him. It's the smell of old books, the feeling of wind through your hair.

It's trusting that he will never hold a blade to your skin, and knowing that he'd sacrifice his knowledge for you.

But....

Should Eve fall in love, it is chaotic and sudden; he may not realize it before you say something.

Eve wants you to protect him, as much as he protects you.

He is more of an open book than his brother but is very nervous about asking you out. Unlike Adam, his dates are wild and natural. Sliding down dunes in the desert, climbing trees in the forest. You whoop and cheer, and everyone knows that even in the chaotic war, there is a chance for peace.

Loving him is holding him tightly when he can't sleep. It's patiently explaining to him why things are the way they are, and keeping up with his childish nature. It's the smell of grass staining your clothes and the sound of rushing water.

It's seeing him at his best, and helping him work through the loss that threatens to destroy him. It is knowing that you will be safe and cared for, even if he never tells you so explicitly.

Been replaying Nier Automata and I'm definitely more invested than I was the first time. Maybe it's the context of Nier (Gestalt) and Drakengard that's helping or maybe I'm just open to engaging with the themes with a fresh pair of eyes.

I'm on Route A atm, but I do find it interesting that 2B is a little more inquisitive, or at least seems to know more than she lets on, when it comes to machine/android behavior. 9S seems convinced that there is no deeper meaning to anything machines do, and I don't think he's trying to convince himself at this point.

Perhaps what's been foreshadowed (such as with the differentiation between on/off network machines & A2, Simone, the mother and son machines in the village) is the consequence of modelling perfect creations after their imperfect creators?

I actually have a fic idea but lc is a show that's like. you will never ever have all the information and context until the end. and I am a writer who writes best and more confidently when I have all the info and context at my fingertips. so now I'm just like 🧍‍♂️

Twitter has somehow managed to get even worse with the latest change. It's been a shitshow for ages but with the hidden likes thing it feels like it also came with yet another algorithm change? My following feed is as much a disaster as ever and my for you page that used to be full of the people I actually follow and relevant posts is now absolutely shit and giving me stuff I don't care about.

I'm also like 90% sure I'm shadowbanned or hidden there or something, absolutely nothing I post gets seen or engaged with. Most of my likes are from pr0n bo.ts and not even my mutuals like my posts most of the time, I'll get maybe 1 if I post at the exact right time. It's discouraging! Why bother with social media if no one sees it and no one interacts?

I'm also getting increasingly burned out on the XIV community and honestly the game too. I still love my WoL and the NPCs I like but like. Most discussion about the parts I like is bashing those parts or fundamentally misunderstanding them so. I'm hoping DT gives us another nice long housing demolition pause so I can take a break without worrying about my houses going poof. I'm proud of my houses. ;;

It's not just me either, most of my XIV moots are on a break or burned out or both.

Maybe I'll finally write fanfic lol.

I dunno. We'll see what happens. I've been finally playing through NieR Automata and enjoying it, and dabbling in Everquest 2 and learning curve aside that's actually been pretty damn fun. Wizard squishy but wizard goes pewpew. Something different. I've got a friend who's encouraged me to play Morrowind so I think that's next after NieR.

Hopefully in the meantime I'll stop feeling so sick. I've been nauseous for days and having a horrible feeling of impending doom. Like something terrible is going to happen but I don't know what. T_T Hopefully it's just worry, I've got a dear friend going through a horrible time so I'm probably just anxious about them.

I think I'll spend more time here, it's nicer and I can type long form and don't feel as weird if I go on a tangent about things I like that aren't the one thing.

I already decided not to attack the robots unless they attack me first.

My first mission required me to attack robots who did not attack me first.

Outside of that, I'm still trying to stick with that! They're just walking around being normal! Why would I kill them for that?

And now the desert has robots who are scared of androids and don't know why they're being attacked and I'm just. this fits with my not wanting to attack them unless they attack me first.

I mean.

Androids are just a more sophisticated form of robot, aren't they?

Humans probably built the robots and didn't get invaded by them. And then couldn't control them, so they did some hijacking when they made the androids or something.
