i wonder how the incident in the engine room would have gone if joker wasn't a puppet bound by the player. i wonder what his true feelings were, rather than the feelings of the player. would he have sat outside of the door for hours until one of them pulled him to his feet? would he have punched and kicked at the wall even though he knew it was a hopeless endeavour? or would he still have turned away, stone-faced, to continue the job that akechi asked of him?

i wonder whether the reality of the situation would only kick in once he had escaped from the palace. where his text messages would remain unanswered, where his friends would nervously dart around the topic. i wonder what he would truly be feeling before he went to sleep. whether he sincerely remembered his promise and went to sleep, or whether he sat up for hours staring at the glove and waiting for a rest that never came.

The Akechi brainrot has infiltrated my dreams. Just woke up from a dream where pre-engine room battle, he said, "You know, Megalovania is a song that plays when one or more fighters is on the verge of madness." Then he laughed like a feral creachure. I was adamant about posting "Akechi has canonically played Undertale" to my socials, but then the dream broke down when I realized this was not, in fact, canon dialogue and that my twitter is still suspended. x'| Anyway, that was weird. It'd be funny to hear Robbie say it.

After watching so many SAO abridged clips, I can 100% say that Akechi is definitely an Asuna type of prisoner. He would use psychological warfare against the guards to the point where they completely fear him (especially a guy named Shoji.), he'll curse and swear to write his memoirs in their mother's blood, rave like a wild animal when caught, and threaten to eat someone's dog to get them to let him go.

it couldn't be . he refused ; ren REFUSED to accept this as reality . even long after the group had escaped from shido's palace ; long after they had given themselves time to rest and recoup . ren couldn't - ! he had spent DAYS in a state of stupor brought on by shock , by his mind trying and failing to numb to the reality .

goro was dead . akechi goro was -

why had goro -

he held onto that glove , so tightly . clung to it like it were some lifeline . stared down into it and sobbed against the leather, clung and clutched it into his chest as though it might bring his heart back . soothe his soul . as though if he cried hard enough and sobbed long enough , goro would walk into leblanc and head up the stairs and greet ren .

didn't know how to explain to the group . couldn't begin to imagine their mixed emotions over the loss . no one else had trusted goro after everything ; only ren . & even then , morgana had cautioned ren initially . don't get too close . don't get too attached . don't forget that he's someone that might betray us . and in the end ? in the end , morgana had realized he'd been wrong : goro didn't hate ren .

even then , morgana wasn't sure how to comfort ren . tried , but didn't know if his voice would reach ren . ren could tell that the rest of the phantom thieves were at a loss of how to help . how to comfort , if they could . if they should , since no one truly understood how deep that bond between goro and ren had delved .

ren took to carry goro's glove around on his person whenever he went out . not that he left leblanc terribly often lately . holed up in his room , sleeping or trying to busy his mind : bury his head in schoolwork , or double and tripling down on missions in mementos or doing odd errands for the group . anything so he wouldn't have to think . to face reality . to answer that aching and gaping feeling in his chest by having to look at it properly .

& so it was that ren had been hanging out with the group . until everyone else started tapering off , going to do their own activities and errands of their own . only sumire hung back . he was about to mention to her that they should try going somewhere for food , but before he could start -

"What do you want? You can tell me."

was it how she had said it ? the way she looked at him , really LOOKED at him . ren stared . stared as his mind stalled , a tar that slowed his thoughts .

ren's expression skewed in pain , and the tears fell before he could compose himself .

" i want - " the words catch in his throat , around that tightness and that tautness of his breathing ,

" i want him to live . i want to turn back time , to stop it from happening ! " he had relived that moment over and over and over again . trying and failing to come up with scenarios in which he could save him - stop it from happening . take his place , somehow . his hands shook , lifting them as he looked at his palms uselessly , " i want to , to stop hurting . "

persona 5 royal, but in which akira is self-aware. aware that he is a puppet on a string bound by another human of some other realm. he notices there are times in the day where he is alone, empty, with nothing controlling him, like in the mornings or afternoons while he is at school. during other times, however, he has no control over his own existence. he opens his phone to see text messages from ann, ryuji and yusuke. he wants to give yusuke some space after everything he's been through. he wants to see ann because she's been lonely. his fingers type a reply to yusuke instead. he listens to what his friend has to say, but he only has two or three thoughts in his head to say in response. none of them sound like something he would say on his own, but yusuke seems happy enough. they are closer than ever before.

akira wants to do his own thing in the evenings. he'd rather be alone after that very stressful experience. but yet again, he is taking a train to kichijoji, only to have akechi say he is busy and can't see him. akira walks away and watches akechi stand outside for hours, never moving. he chooses to play darts with other people, yet he is not throwing of his own accord. he has never played before. how does he get a perfect score? he does not want a relationship with his own teacher. he is too young to even think about it. yet he finds himself accepting, even though that is the last thing he wants.

he is aware that in the metaverse, the control over him tightens to unbearable levels. he can't even move my himself, being dragged along by fate as he attacks shadow after shadow, even when his injured body is being dragged along by this mysterious force. he gets struck by a shadow. he feels his body falling. of course he's angry that he died, there is so much that needs to be done in the world, but he is free from that demon at last. maybe his next life will be his own, he'll be in control like he was before he moved go yongen-jaya for a year.

he opens his eyes in a saferoom. he hears queen talking with oracle about their next move. they had this conversation before, way back before joker began to get so reckless. crow looks at him strangely. no one else notices. before joker can say anything, he is being dragged towards the door, and everything begins again.

eugh it's so hard to find people to roleplay with these days, everyone is in private cliques and discord servers

so anyway here's my last attempt at screaming into the void to find interactions, these are all the canon characters I write in all the different fandoms. I write para/multipara, just about any genre (esp angst and fluff and smut) m/m ships only and 18+ for various nsfw themes, and I'm open to canon compliant threads and AUs. I'm a lil slow on replies sometimes because life sucks and so does chronic pain, but I'm also down to just hang or play games or whatever idk. I don't always feel like writing every muse on the list, and I have my favorites, but I also have pretty niche interests so don't be afraid to reach out if something catches your eye. the orange

whether it’s your sweet nature, breakaway cover, or your natural displays of intimacy, you have the undercurrent of the orange. a love language in itself, your nature makes others want to take a bite and enjoy the tang that you leave behind with your laughter. you remind others of a summer day, hot air, long nights, always hopeful you’ll never go away. in her poem “the orange” by wendy cope she said “i peeled it and shared it with robert and dave, they had quarters and i had a half” you’re generous and have much to give. she also said “this is peace and contentment, it’s new” well i say, it’s you.

the coffee

whether it’s your sharp tongue, your tendency to blow hot or cold, or the familiarity of you, you’re the coffee. don’t immediately assume that your undercurrent means you’re bitter, a common misconception, because people who like coffee always make it work for them. coffee doesn’t always have to be dark, it can be a warmth that’s comforting and the first start to a day. you aren’t nearly as tough as you make out to be, but we’ll keep your secret. you’re a constant, won’t ever go out of style. not everyone’s taste, but what is these days? an unknown quote reads “I like drinking coffee alone and reading alone… I realize that even though I like being alone, I don’t fancy being lonely” remember you don’t always need to face things yourself, there’s a reason people suggest “coffee?” when they want to spend time together.

Thinking about Akechi in The Crow Cries at Midnight and how the mere presence of friends and family who love him has affected him. It's a little thing, but he's much more comfortable shooting down heteronormative assumptions about himself when he has several friends who are either some flavor of queer (e.g. Yu and Yosuke dating) or also figuring themselves out in some way or form, where he doesn't feel so lonely being a bit of an oddball socially. He's still particular about his grades and likes to appear intelligent, but there's a certain... sincerity he's able to show because he has had months of genuine friendships and connections from a diverse array of people. He may be lacking in friendships in his own age group, but the Investigation Team has still given him other teenagers he can connect with, who have proven themselves to be sincere and to truly care time and time again. He's loved, he's needed. Multiple people want him around. And that allows him to form a healthier relationship not just with others, but himself, whereas his canon counterpart became such a mess in large part due to the isolation he experienced since a young age compounded with trauma, abuse, and manipulation and the weight of his crimes.

It probably also helps that his Shadow forced him to accept his vulnerabilities, desire to be loved, and positive attributes. Simply having a positive intervention in his life didn't make him shake it all off, mind you. Even where he's at in the arc I'm writing... he's happier, more confident, and more open with others, but he still has that desire to prove himself and to excel pushing him along.
