Here's a pride month flavor musing for you:

There's something to be said about the fact that even when works of period art are deliberately using a fun house mirror version of history so they can have more modern/progressive sensibilities for either race (Bridgerton) or feminism (Mrs Masiel) they still almost always maintain a period accurate attitude twords homosexuality and queerness.

It's almost like this weird tacit acknowledgement that though we can expect the audience to accept a desegregated British Aristocracy or a 1950s house wife doing stand-up comedy that speaks to modern feminist struggles, we can't expect an audience to accept gay people having happy fulfilling lives and relationships in the same way. Queerness still has this edge of enforced tragedy, secrecy, and shame to it. Of course Shy Baldwin is forced to marry a woman in order to keep his fame and to loose his best friend after nearly being outed. Of course Suzie's one romance is a tragic heartbreak that embittered her to love and left her "happy to be alone". Of course Reynolds and Brimsley must steal moments in secret and ultimately be separated- without even a passing explanation as to why their not together in the "later" timeline. Their is certainly no scene of them reuniting in the same way George and Charlotte get. Reynolds and Brimsley are queer, it's assumed they don't get to be happy and end up together, even as the show lauds the undying and unyielding love of a interracial Queen Charlotte and King George.

I know that it's just a reflection of where our society is and yet....I can't help but wish it was different. I love all these big budget glossy period pieces that look back at our history and ask "what if it had been different? What if we had been kinder and more accepting and less hateful?" and I genuinely do believe that is a question worth asking. I just think it's a question worth asking for everyone.

"While we don't know much about the film yet, given it's just the first trailer, it's really not hard to see its character." Pixie theorized. "It ticks so many of the 'safe kids movie' boxes and it's painfully obvious that the producers don't care about the game or existing fanbase beyond how much capital it will net them. Plus, there's no fixing it this far into production. It's sad, really."

"I have no comment." Rose flatly replied. Alex was curled around her, hackles raised slightly at the reaction. Pebbles nearby start rising from the ground.

"All art has value." Suzie started, folding her hands over one another. "It was a product, not art, and a poorly made one at that. It’s an unfortunate use of time, resources and space." She summarized before getting up. "Now if you could excuse me, I have something worth my time to be doing."

I just realised... the reason why Kang Susie's career lasted so long and longer than fellow "innocent beauty" troika girls Lee Jiyeon and Ha Soobin's did is because she debuted when she was 24. Jiyeon and Soobin debuted at 17.

Susie had lived in America, had experienced a life of poverty and discrimination, went working next to high school and college, Soobin and Jiyeon had lived nowhere else than in Korea and lived life as "normal" high school girls.

Susie was an ADULT and Jiyeon and Soobin were TEENAGERS when they all debuted - Susie knew how society worked, the other two didn't, BECAUSE THEY WERE HIGH SCHOOLERS AND TEENAGERS AND LEGAL MINORS when they debuted. Like, it all makes sense. Of course Jiyeon would suffer under her antis, and then throw her career away for the first man that told her he loved her. Of course Soobin would retire directly after the rumours that hit her -

THEY WERE NOT MATURE ENOUGH TO HANDLE IT and I want yall to think back when you were 17 and imagine having to handle fame and all of that what comes with it. Trying to manage the transition between teenage and adulthood IN THE PUBLIC EYE.

Compare that to 27 year old Susie, how she handled her dating scandal - she even scored two hits after that. SHE WAS 27. She was not just an adult with all of this adulting behind her, that is a fully developed, mature and grown woman. Compare that to 19-20 for both Jiyeon and Soobin when they hit their career lows.

"What If Jiyeon had just a more stable support network when her anti problem hit the fan" is literally my roman empire because if she wouldnt have retired, she'd have had a much better image change and would've slayed more mature thems and albums, Susie wouldn't have been able to fully take over that spot for herself, Soobin would've probably debuted but not been as famous and so wouldn't have dealt with so much hate, all three women would have had longer careers, and we'd have had a period of time where they all promoted together.

Julie is the kind of girl who scorned "childish" things at a young age - she always wanted to be seen as smarter, cooler, more mature than her peers, and for the most part it worked. It's easy to forget she's a literal teenager in conversation, especially when she's looking down at you like you're the immature one, but reminders can spring up when she's trying to convince you of exactly that - people acting like they know what's best for her is the easiest way to anger her as she fucking hates being patronized or talked down to, her bouts of anger can be likened to tantrums, the product of a child never being taught to manage her anger properly and instead expected to bottle it up.

She's a combination of the way girls are constantly told to grow up too fast and the way teenagers can find themselves down a dangerous path trying to do just that - an attempt to seem both grown-up and have an outlet for the emotions she was ordered to suppress for that very reason.

Not a good person! Very much broken down by his father. There is a rage and cruelty inside of him that he tried to resist for a long time but it eventually he gave into it. It was easier.

His hate for his father was like a wound slowly festering. He loved his father, was codenpendent on him. He knew he was a wicked person. He didn't want to be like him but he ended up just as bad. Finally snapped and killed him for all of it.

Doesn't actually want to follow the Entity. It more or less tortured into doing it (those hooks in him are my evidence as well as the log that mentions he didn't want to follow another authority.)
