Shanks Open Starter

"It's too early for this." Shanks stretched, still coming across as half-asleep and hungover.

The speed in which he turned around almost had him dizzy, saber drawn and knuckles white from clutching it. Grey eyes shot open wide, rapidly looking for the source of the voice and the laughter, only ever coming across slightly crumbling stone walls, the one or the other painting or decoration, some candles, lit and unlit, and several doors and a staircase leading upstairs. There was nobody present.

Shanks couldn't remember the last time his heart beat so fast, adrenaline rushing through him to the point where he was almost shaking. "It's all fine. It's just a creepy old castle..." he whispered to himself. Right up Mihawk's alley. Shanks swore Mihawk resorted to the weirdest and creepiest place to live he could find just to keep unwanted company away, or any company for that matter. He had to have imagined the female voice. There was no way he had company.

Still, the red haired captain couldn't shake off the feeling of being watched. He took in his surroundings once more, more carefully this time, finding once more nobody there.

Pushing it all onto his imagination, Shanks took the door to the left, the heavy wooden door opening with a creak just like the front entrance, and he found himself in what looked like a dining hall, with tall and narrow windows, even taller walls and a massive table that could easily sit a dozen, if not more, people.

"Mihawk!" He tried once again, to no avail. The man really seemed to be gone. Well, Shanks wasn't about to go back to his ship and sail off. There was only so long Mihawk could really be gone for, probably on some Marine business, or simply because he was bored and wanted to kill some time as he sometimes did.

He reached for one of the chairs and promptly flopped down on, legs hoisted up and propped on the table.

He would simply have to wait.

Mihawk had left Kuraigana for a seemingly important mission. Why he wouldn’t allow her to accompany her this time, she didn’t know — perhaps he needed a break from her rather eccentric personality. Whatever the reason may have been, being left alone on this desolate island with only wildlife to keep one company could grow drab even for the most sequestered and dreary of individuals. It’s not that the ghost princess minded time in isolation, floating aimlessly about an eerie castle — it just can be quite lonely without her hawk-eyed host.

She supposed instead of wallowing in loneliness which she dares not to admit to a single soul, she could instead tend to the weeds which loomed amongst the Zinfandel vines so ominously, a threat of punishment from the universe that slothfulness will prevent the enjoyment of the next round of fine wine. Perona had clad herself in a black dress, plainer than the others Mihawk had given to her, and comfortable enough to work in. Her maroon tipped hands then acquired a scythe and busied herself with yard work, whacking through the overgrown jungle with ease.

The pinkette had been hard at work in the field for nearly an hour, only stopping to investigate a strange trespasser who fit an oh-so-familiar description.

He had to be an impressive bloke to have survived clashing with Hawk-eyes, and, from what she knows of him, he seems like interesting company. Still - she made an effort to remain armed in the small chance he may attack. It never hurt to be cautious.

Scythe in hand, the princess stalked through the field and back into the abode, her black robes billowing through the air with every movement as she stalked the redhead.

“Hawk-eyes isn’t home right now, Shanks.” A light voice could be heard breaking the liminal silence of the stone walls. “But I am. Horororo~”

Oh man, walking in on Kid is one of those - Oh. - moments. It's hard not to stare. It's hard when you stare. I can picture Kid looking down and then looking back over at you.

It's a legit offer, mind your words carefully.

Sabo has half as much sense as he'd like to admit he does - instead of pulling his pants back up he grabs his hat and covers himself, red down to shoulders regardless of what expression he's managed to put on his face.

His shy reaction will likely prompt you to close the door, but if you don't - if you, say, continue with whatever you came in to say to him, he'll manage. Aside from holding his hat in place, he'll be comfortable enough.

... which... now... I'm just imagining updating Sabo on something and he's standing there naked save for a pair of gloves and his hat over his dick.

Marco won't bother to cover up, and is more likely to turn toward you and ask you what you needed. His expression will be relaxed (if you can even tear your eyes away from his cock to SEE his face), and his tone will be easy and and inviting.

He'll talk business if you can keep your wits about you, but he will teasingly flirt you with his words if you lose your composure. Something more physical could certainly happen, but he's going to follow whatever flow presents itself, so he won't push it if the opening isn't there.

Sir Crocodile does not get accidentally walked in on. But you don't need to know that. You'll need to make up for viewing him thus without permission - don't panic, he's sure you'll... appreciate the punishment.

Shanks probably walks around naked on the deck of the ship so much you're not seeing him naked for the first time when you walk into his room. He's laying in bed naked with a rose in his mouth giving you bedroom eyes and you don't even look up from your report, setting it on the table and informing him you're allergic to roses, and he should put on pants before coming out on deck.

That Buggy's real name isn't "Buggy", it's just a name he's been using to hide the embarrassing truth that his real name is a very proper and distinguished sort of name, and he absolutely hates it because of that.

Something like "Bertram."

And the only person who knows is Shanks, who obviously uses it to get on his nerves.

And also obviously threatens to tell Mihawk and Crocodile when Buggy's being an overdramatic jerkface.

I keep wondering about Ace's backstory...

The Marines learned about Roger's baby being somewhere out there, because a witness said that he saw the Pirate King acting unusually, "like a father". I wonder what the witness meant exactly and if it can be attributed to other pirates.

What I mean is: what if the Marines noticed sudden change in, say, Zeff's demeanor? Especially because Red Leg Zeff at some point disappeared to the world - he was a pirate legend and one day he decided to start a restaurant with baby Sanji and without a leg. Maybe some people recognized him just like Don Krieg and also noticed that he is followed by a kid.

Or someone hears Shanks and Yasopp talk about Luffy and Usopp. I learned recently from outside source that the reason Yasopp didn't come back to Syrop Village is because he didn't want to endanger his family. But what if someone makes the connecton between Usopp and Yasopp? What if the Marines learn that Sogeking has a father? Of course, Yasopp is on a Yonkou's crew and he's strong, and Usopp is strong too, so the situation is different.

I don't know, the scenario can't leave my mind.

Brick by Brick (Putting it Together)

Well, 1126 certainly ends off on a wild and very interesting note I have a lot to say about. But I don't want to bury the very interesting stuff getting there. First...hell yeah we're getting trashed on Giant absinthe! If you're unfamiliar, that is an alcohol made with a specific type of wormwood that isn't necessarily the strongest booze out there but it's unique for having hallucinogenic effects. Well, for having a reputation for that though it's exaggerated.

Still, it's important to note we're here just casually partying on the way to Elbaf given what happens next. On the way there though, we're going to continue this element of getting back to some of the side stories set up in Egghead. The lines are still very blurred in terms of whether we've finished that arc or are starting a new one. Much more than we typically see in these intermission chapters. So let's look at the two we have, remembering there are thematic ties and how they may all resonate with the title. "Payback" is an interesting term with context in this series.

Especially when we see this guy. So yeah, FWIW this chapter title is the same Kanji as the "Payback" in Payback War, where Marco led the Whitebeard Remnants in trying to get even with Blackbeard. That's not the only time we'll mention the legacy of the Whitebeard Pirates which is always something I'll take interest in when a certain one of them felt unfinished in his own arc. We still have Marco and Bakkin/Weevil's story running through Sphinx Island.

That said, the scene is interesting in its own right. BB getting onto Pizarro here is pretty funny. Lafitte keeping an eye on the Revolutionaries current siege on the Red Line is intriguing, but the big thing to me is the prisoner swap. Perona & Moria got away but they captured Garp and we see Pudding here too. Blackbeard always has that way of mirroring Luffy. If nothing else, they've both "captured" a big shot to the World Government here with Lilith/Garp. Moria slipping away with important secrets though could mirror Caribou doing the same to Luffy and of course Pudding is interesting as well. But this isn't the only side story we get an update on.

Hell yeah Barto, and fuck you Shanks for blowing up the Going Luffy-Senpai. I wanna get to the fireworks factory though so we'll keep this quick. There's two elements. One, this works nicely with other scenes showing the Grand Fleet getting up to trouble since Dressrosa. That plus Shanks hammering home the idea he has to respond to save face. Explaining why it matters. Shouldn't be anything new to you if you've been reading along with me for a while, but for a refresher I do still feel this is something Luffy was starting to get in Wano. Key word being starting.

It's something he was showing he was learning with how Kiku in Bakura Town builds off Katakuri/Future Sight and flows into Hyogoro in Udon. Then it starts to break away from that first with Yamato forcing his way in, then Gear Five, then seems completely forgotten come Egghead. Which starts with aggressive reminders none of this nonsense had anything to do with you and ends on the complementary note of losing control of how the story gets told. But...we all know we're here to talk about one event this chapter.

Huh? The Sunny mysteriously disappears and we see Nami being woken up by someone in...a Lego house? I wanna do bullet points and kinda quickly address all the stuff we see flying around because this is both absolutely bonkers but also not too far off from some of the things I thought could happen with how we've had weird elements of how Wano/Egghead were written:

First off who. Who was split off into this odd area. It was the original six and the more recent four crew mates this time. Interesting. A lot of people jump to Vivi right away. It's equally true that these are the crewmates who met Ace and also that we got the younger ones apart from their elders.

A lot of people have jumped right to thinking this is Elbaf and Loki has Nami in something like a dollhouse. Lego do come from a "Viking" country and that'd explain the outfit...but we've never seen anything like this aesthetic.

Real absinthe may not be super hallucinogenic...but it has a real reputation for that. One the Giants invoked. That could be a part of things.

Stussy isn't out of the question though. Especially when we get a little reminder of the brokers via Umit coming up earlier.

If there's any known Devil Fruit power this may fit with it'd be Sugar's. Which is a stretch. But this vibe could be a bridge to thematically tying Elbaf & Whole Cake.

This could be a ship, that was the first thing I thought seeing the actual panel. So the "Man Marked by Flames" and his ability to cause whirlpools isn't a bad idea.

OG Kuma is there, he coulda shoved the Sunny away. Doubtful but a possibility.

Hopefully next chapter gives us more to go on. But for now if we want to ponder things keep the facts we can glean in mind. It had to be something sudden that could happen without the other ship noticing. Whoever is calling out has to be someone who'd know Nami. We don't know which side we'll focus on for resolving this. By the same token you could say this is the gang that knows Vivi so she has to show up...it's really just split based on time. We could just as easily focus more on giving the latecomers a chance to shine figuring this one out. Or they could go on to Elbaf and set it up like Zou so we don't really need to fabricate a conflict for that arc when we finally get there.

Whichever way it goes...this is exactly the type of shit I wanted to see and I cannot wait to see how it unfolds...

Have you stuck with me this long? Humor me, it's my birthday weekend. Probably the last time I get to say this...but what a swan song. There's a bullet points I left off, but it'd check all the boxes right? Someone unassuming has been on the ship and thus gets snagged away with the early comers. There you go, friendly face that isn't drunk and has had time to get a handle on the situation. And still a reason to keep them obscured. Blends well with this Blackbeard/Shanks stuff, Yamato's entry in the cover saga, and still leaves Drake for the actual reveal.

Gil has yet to learn what any of those things are. Reading the board is hard for him, so he's relying on people to just tell him when he asks. "Food. . .I like food!" He looks back to the glass and then to him. "We didn't have any of those on the Isle. I don't know what they are."

Shanks was still a little shocked when people just came to talk to him. Back home he had a reputation but not here. Shanks was also a lot kinder than most pirates. "Um coffee I think, tea. Hot drinks, cold drinks. Food. Whatever really."

This newest manga chapter is really giving my mind more Yandere Shanks material - intentionally or not, but damn.

I always figured what would be terrifying was that no one on the crew knew the captain was twisted (and I do like that set up), but now I’m thinking about a crew that supports their yandere captain openly, and even does the disciplining so that the darling(s) doesn’t come to fear Shanks compared to the rest of the crew >.>
