WHAT GENRE OF BOOK WERE YOU WRITTEN FOR, AND DID YOU SURVIVE TO THE END?
tagged by: @huntrcssqueen and @overnightheartbeats (thank you both, love you both <3)
tagging: whoever wants to do it because idk who's already done it and who hasn't! you, reading this! do it and say i tagged you! honestly!
DOUGLAS BLACKWOOD
Written for a romance book only for you to die in the arms of your lover
You are led by love to an extreme level. You are willing to do anything for whoever you love the most, either romantically or platonically. You don’t know how to focus on yourself, instead letting others control you. This is why you eventually die, but at least you’re still with your lover.
LYDIA COLLINS
Written for a mystery book to move the plot along, you had to survive
You enjoy thrills and the spark that they add to your life. If there weren’t those thrills then what’s the point of doing anything, right? You are a very curious person but you do know when to back off. Your problem is knowing who you are in the story. Are you the detective or the murderer? Who knows! It’s part of the mystery…
LOGAN CHADWICK
Written for an adventure book where you were killed during a battle
You live for whatever the next greatest thing may be. You don’t worry about the possible danger, instead only looking at the possibility of excitement and the great story you may be able to get out of this. You are a bit rash and don’t look before you leap, which is what ends up getting you killed in battle.
TESSA LOCKE
Written for a children’s book to live and tell a cute story
You are very sweet and very excitable. You love to explore and have fun. You also have a love of learning and somehow manage to learn a lesson each time you explore (imagine that). When you do go on one of your adventures, like in your book, you of course manage to make it home just before the sunsets in time for dinner.
AARON CARTER
Written for a mystery book specifically so you could be killed to set off the story
You are a very curious person, but not so good at remembering that “curiosity killed the cat”. You think you’re invincible at times which ends up being dangerous for yourself and sometimes others as well. You feel a bit stuck in the background, but at least your death is what started this whole story in the first place.
ZOE LANCASTER
Written for a horror book that you somehow make it to the end of
You don’t know how to rest but you really wish you could. After everything that you’ve been through in this story you want nothing more than to be able to let yourself relax. You have a good understanding of logic and tend to focus on that over your emotions. The good news is that its over. The killer isn’t chasing you anymore.
#THIS IS SO FUCKING FUNNY THE BOYS ALL DIE AND THE GIRLIES LIVE LETS GO#lmao good for them! these quizzes are so fun omg#maybe i'll do a new post with the newbies when i have a mo :)#they've been called out so much! obsessed with these results#muse ;; douglas blackwood#douglas blackwood ;; musings#muse ;; lydia collins#lydia collins ;; musings#muse ;; aaron carter#aaron carter ;; musings#muse ;; logan chadwick#logan chadwick ;; musings#muse ;; tessa locke#tessa locke ;; musings#muse ;; zoe lancaster#zoe lancaster ;; musings

Pride & Prejudice - Steggy AU
Coming soon* to an AO3 near you
Born as the second daughter of the Carter family with no rank and no fortune, Peggy has spent her entire life being accosted by her mother to marry well - and marry soon.
The arrival of one egregiously wealthy Mr. James Barnes sends her mother in a particularly frenetic tizzy, determined to make introductions in hopes of setting one of her daughters up with him. However, it’s Mr. Barnes’ mysteriously dour friend that catches Peggy’s attention. She might even go as far to call him handsome - if only his own pride hadn’t mortified her own.
Created for Steggy Week 2023 Day 4: Family and Friends.
I chose this particular story for this prompt because the source material is so family centred!
Thank you @steggyfanevents you’ve created another monster that I now have to write.
Starring:
Peggy Carter as Elizabeth Bennet
Steve Rogers as Fitzwilliam Darcy
James “Bucky” Barnes as Charles Bingley
Natasha Romanoff as Jane Bennet
Amanda Carter as Mrs. Bennet
Harrison Carter as Mr. Bennet
Jemma Simmons as Mary Bennet
Daisy Johnson as Lydia Bennet
Kora as Catherine “Kitty” Bennet
Rose Roberts as Charlotte Lucas
Fred Wells as George Wickham
Daniel Sousa as Mr. Collins
Miriam Fry as Lady Catherine de Bourgh
Dottie Underwood as Miss Bingley
Angie Martinelli as Georgiana Darcy
Colonel and Mrs. Phillips as Mr. and Mrs. Gardiner
*soon is a relative term based on the social construct we call time, that is dependent on varying factors, including but not limited to: muse’s cooperation, time and energy to write, and the writer’s overall potential to be easily distracted by other WIP’s and ideas, as is evidenced by this new creation here.
#steggy#steggyweek23#pride and prejudice au#don't hate me for the pic of steve here chris evans has not been in any period pieces and has never worn anything even remotely period#I TRIED#I SCOURED THE INTERNET#BUT ALAS#also some of these roles were harder to cast than i thought#particularly the younger bennet sisters

Lydia’s thoughts swirled with the possibilities of what might come next. It felt almost unreal that she was standing here with another person, a living, breathing human being, after so many years of isolation. It changed everything, including the very world she came to know of it; one that consisted with loneliness and solitude.. The prospect of sharing that space, both physical and emotional, with someone else was daunting and exhilarating in equal measure. Daunting, knowing that at any point, he could turn on her. After all, she did not know this man, nor did she instantly trust him. But what other choice did she have? She survived this long on her own. It wasn’t much of a life. Which leads to the exhilarating feeling. Having someone by her side, someone she could hold a conversation with. They could help each other. And if it all falls apart, then so be it. Many times, she wondered whether still being around when everyone else was dead, whether it was worth it, to keep going when she had no reason to keep on going. Everyone she ever loved was dead. And yet, for some reason she kept going. Whether it just meant she was stubborn, or a coward, she wasn’t sure. But she kept going anyway. Having someone else here, to bounce ideas off of, to feed their social needs. It was better than nothing.
The idea of having someone else to rely on, someone to share the burdens of survival with, felt like a lifeline she hadn’t known she needed until now. His suggestion to explore both their places, to see which would be better to stay, seemed like a reasonable first step. It was practical. Logical. Lydia couldn’t help but let out a soft, almost relieved laugh. There was something strangely comforting about the way Cameron was approaching this. It was a mix of practicality and humanity that she hadn’t encountered in a long time. His reasonings were right, and if anything, she felt the same. “Yeah, me too actually,” she agreed in response to his comment about going insane if he had to spent another night alone. It was smart, at least he was a good thinker. At least they both seemed to have a few brain cells remaining.
His offer to part ways if she preferred meant a lot, even if it was the simplest of gestures. It didn’t necessarily mean immediate trust, but it meant he respected her. And she had no reason not to trust him. “Well,” she began, her voice carrying a newfound steadiness as she adjusted to the reality of speaking to another person, “I suppose there’s no harm in checking out each other’s places. It’ll give us a better idea of how we might proceed.” she added, gesturing around her. “Plus, it’s not every day you get to show someone around after being alone for so long.” And it’s not like either of them had full schedules, she mused to herself. “I, it’s not very big by all means. Quite a tight space, but it’s secure.” For now, she silently added at the end. “But I think I can make room if we decide to stay there. Will have to shuffle things about but it's certainly doable. What about yours?” Her smile grew a bit more as she added, “And don’t worry, I’m not kicking you to the curb just yet. I think sticking together will be better. For both of us.”
Lydia’s gaze softened as she looked at Cameron, the initial shock of their encounter starting to give way to a tentative hope. For the first time in a long while, the future seemed a little less lonely, and the thought of companionship, however uncertain, was a welcome change to countless nights of having to listen to her own racing thoughts. “So, shall we?” she asked, gesturing for them to start moving.
Most things that were alive weren't actually alive. They were just figures that resembled what humans use to look like. They didn't talk like he did anymore, they didn't have any sort of mind it was just mush and being alone now was all that he knew now at this point. Trying to survive this world. How was one supposed to survive and bring back the human race? Bring back buildings, gardens, just life itself when you were this alone. Isolation was something that nobody should ever experience this much and he was glad that he at least had a dog that he was taking care of to talk to and pretend to be having a conversation with but what he really wanted was real human interaction and he dreamed that one day he would find someone and talk to them again but when that day came what would happen? Now that day has come... what were they to do now.
How was he supposed to just blindly trust a random human being at this point in his life? Before hand he would have trusted blindly but now it was a whole other equation in the mixture. Now it was a matter of would she turn against him and steal all the things he had? Would she hold a gun to his head and make him do what she wanted. All he could do was keep his guard up as much as he could with her around. With the lose of so many lives, the lose of his late fiancee, the lose of his best friend, his parents, there was only so much lose one person could take. He was the one who put a bullet between his fiancee's eyes so she wouldn't suffer. It was that moment that he lost everything and that moment that he shut out his emotions. Standing here now though, before a beautiful woman, before a flesh breathing woman there was only so much they could do and the question still stood about what they would do.
Licking his lips as they felt so dry he listened to her voice. It was like an angelic voice that spoke because it was someone else. It was someone aside from himself and listening to her made him very attentive to what she was saying. There were some nights where he just physically couldn't get any shut eye because of the memories that would fill his eyes every time they shut. He could physically see the terror of the world, of the blood and it made him sick to his stomach. ❝ It's good to try and keep things fun for yourself, otherwise you would go completely insane. We're almost there but not yet. ❞ He tried to joke about with a half smile as he rose up part of his brow. With the direct question it was one that he was going to ask himself. His eyes scanned around their surroundings as he looked back to Lydia. ❝ Sticking together would probably be the smartest outcome for the both of us. More protection and social interaction. If I spend one more night alone I might just lose it completely. ❞ He stated as he put the gun back over his shoulder. ❝ How big is your place? We can see both places and see who's is best to set up camp. If you want me to fuck right off well just tell me now and we will go separate ways but I think we should stick together. ❞

Douglas Blackwood & Tessa Locke
ANGEL: all eyes are always fixed on you every time you enter a room. no matter what colour your wings are, you embody that colourful aura and everyone is drawn to you. you may not be one for too many words, but your eyes convey many feelings with just one look. be a little obsessed with yourself, I promise you it's ok.
Lydia Collins
MYSTERIOUS BOOK OWNER: your bookstore/tea garden/cafe is a haven for many who were lucky enough to stumble across your (very well) hidden store. you may or may not be a very powerful immortal who now lives a quiet life. you share a likeness to someone in a photo hung up on your wall that was taken in 1902, but no one's really questioned it yet. only your most loyal customers are privy to your colourful past. oh the scandal and mystery of it all
Aaron Carter
SHAPESHIFTER: you adapt to situations and people rather quickly, and you pull it off so effortlessly, how sexy of you. still a little closed off, much to your many admirers' dismay. you could probably carry around a tiny blade strapped to your thigh and nobody would question it. in fact I think the drooling and gawking might increase by 30% at least
Zoe Lancaster
300 YEAR OLD VAMPIRE: you've lived through the 80s- you're pretty sure you've seen it all. wandering around the world aimlessly, you're kinda tired of everyone gawking at your otherworldly, dark beauty every time you round a corner, so you tend to leave humans alone. and yet you feel the need to use your wisdom and guide those who are lost in the world. you're pretty chill but also will bust a tear at the mere sight of a sunrise or sunset
Logan Chadwick
A GREEK MYTHOLOGY ENTITY: a hush falls over the crowd just by the mere mention of your name. you've been around, you've done and seen it all, and you're still thirsty for knowledge and power. your conquests are heard of all around the world, especially how great you look in leather pants. seriously no one's managed to pull this look off, props to you

and here we have faye’s first girlfriend, lydia collins, ain’t she sweet.
she was faye’s boss during her uni days, the manager in a bookshop, the first real female attraction for faye and made her discover she was bisexual. it was a sweet relationship that lasted about 6 months but both have fond memories until the end.
i could have started gifcons of her from two of the well known wlw roles she was in
but no
i chose one where she’s a straight mom that has an affair with her baby daddy’s best friend.
to be fair, that best friend was played by max beesley but still.
my priorities are screwed.

@flufftober Day 2: “You’ve told your parents?”
William wasn’t sure he had ever been this wildly, this incredibly, this exuberantly happy.
He was fairly certain Gigi had nearly fainted when he’d told her he was taking a month with only remote work, and he couldn’t really blame her. Ever since their parents had died, he’d become a workaholic, studying and proving his worth as a CEO to the board and to the world. He didn’t realize how accustomed he was to just… working and scheduling family and friends around it or for holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas until the whole mess with Gigi and Wickham.
He genuinely couldn’t believe he’d been absent enough to miss his sister falling in love with the bastard. It was why he’d come to Netherfield with Bing, why he’d adviced him to stay away from Jane when he thought his best friend might get hurt.
Of course, the second had backfired spectacularly, and he’d thought the first had too. . . Until now.
Which brought him back to the point. Lizzie. Lizzie was… She was amazing. He’d always scoffed at people who did ridiculously exaggerated things in the name of romantic love. But now. . . Now he got it. For Lizzie, for the way she let her breath out in a small gasp when she was kissed before kissing back, the way she threw her head back and laughed openly without fear of being judged, the way she could admit to her faults on the internet in front of her thousands of subscribers, the way she defended those she loved, the way she wrinkled her nose when she thought someone was wrong but was trying to have tact, the way she stuck to her principles. . . . He would do anything.
He'd thought he loved her during his disastrous confession in Collins and Collins—he could see now that that was nothing. The feelings he’d actively fought against until they had to be let out in a horrifyingly insulting manner were nothing compared to what he was feeling now, when Lizzie laughed at his jokes, actively debated points with him, held his hand and was in front of him trying to get the cream off her nose with her tongue.
Just half a year ago, he’d have been repulsed, taking this as even more proof that she was low class, not good enough for him. Now he was entranced, even as they talked about Dr Gardiner’s latest paper. He’d always liked the woman and her work, and more so now that he knew she was Lizzie’s mentor.
“And Lydia always says. . . .” Lizzie trailed off with a wince. William held back a grimace. He knew the pain of recalling what someone had been like before they were hurt when you blamed yourself for that hurt despite everyone around you telling you otherwise.
William had never been a man of action. He’d always liked how words could be calculated and carefully spoken. Lizzie Bennet had changed that, as she had a lot of things. He extended his hand until it covered hers. At that she smiled and stroked his hand with her thumb.
“How is she?” He asked softly.
“Doing better,” She sighed, and set aside her plate with a sense of finality. He indicated for the cheque with his other hand. “But well. . . How can you be doing after all that?”
“She has you and the rest of her family,” William said reassuringly. “She may not be able to bounce back immediately, or feel safe anytime soon, but she knows you love her and she knows she can come to you. That’s enough, I think, for now.”
Lizzie’s smile was loving, awed. William’s heart swelled. “Well, if I’m half the older sibling you are to Gigi, we’ll all be just fine.”
Their kiss was just as perfect as their first one. Their noses bumped slightly, and Lizzie tasted like strawberry and chocolate and the way she pulled on his tie drove him wild, and he wouldn’t change a single thing.
They parted, and William leaned back to catch his breath, heart beating wildly. “And the dinner will help cheer her up too, I suppose,” Lizzie mused.
William’s mind halted. “Dinner? What dinner?”
Lizzie looked up at him through her eyelashes, lips twisted in the way they always were when she felt sheepish. “I haven’t told you about that?” He shook his head. “My parents want to have this huge dinner for all of us – Lydia, cousin Mary, Bing and Jane, Gigi, Charlotte, you and me. . .”
“You’ve told your parents?” William asked, alarmed. “About us?”
“I couldn’t keep it from them,” Lizzie protested, giggling. “Even if I had tried, Lydia would’ve spilled the beans. William, you don’t need to look like you’ve received an execution order!”
“I think I do,” William said. When he’d asked after the dinner at the Bennets’ house, Bing had just laughed nervously and said that Jane had a really colourful family and Caroline had just shuddered and asked him not to make her relive the experience. Thinking of which. . . “Is Caroline coming?”
Lizzie bit her lip. “Well. . . Hopefully she’ll refuse. . .”
“Oh my God,” William wasn’t prone to dramatics but he thought this situation called for it. He hadn’t given much thought to meeting Lizzie’s parents – well, ‘much’ in his standards – probably because his own were dead, but he certainly hadn’t thought it would be in company – particularly of those mentioned.
“Come on, it won’t be so bad,” She said cajolingly.
“Or it’ll be a complete disaster,” He muttered, worst case scenarios running through his head.
“Either way, it’ll be fun,” Lizzie grinned, and then became solemn. “William, if you really don’t want to, we don’t have to do this. We can take Gigi and Lydia and Charlotte and go for dinner ourselves and another time with Jane and Bing, and you can meet my parents later.”
Of course she’d found out the crux of the matter. “You shouldn’t have to skip a family dinner for me,” He said, changing the subject.
She allowed it. “Are you kidding? Like you said, it’ll be good to escape the disaster.” She paused. “Besides, it’s for you. If you’re not comfortable with it, we don’t have to do it.”
William’s heart stuttered. “No, I. . .” He cleared his throat. “The notion was just discomforting at first. I would love to attend dinner.”
“You don’t have to exaggerate,” Lizzie said.
He shook his head. “I’m not.” He hesitated for a moment. “If it’s possible. . . I can meet your parents before?”
“Of course,” Lizzie said immediately. “Maybe the day before or just before everyone gets there.” She eyed him knowingly, but didn’t bring up William’s feelings regarding his parents.
“Besides, Gigi would be upset if we ruined her chance of seeing this spectacle,” He said, not bringing it up either. A genuine smile spread across his face at the thought.
“True enough,” Lizzie laughed. “Then that’s settled.” She paused. “Maybe we can invite your Aunt Catherine and see her expression when you talk about how you liked ‘my fine eyes’.”
“Please stop bringing that up,” William said, the tips of his ears reddening. Then the full sentence registered and he laughed, wholeheartedly, imagining his aunt sitting in the Bennets’ dining room, in the full loving chaos that was their home. “She’d go crazy.”
Lizzie snickered. “Yeah, poor Annie.” Her voice dipped in an uncanny imitation of his aunt when she talked about her dog. “You see, Annie, these heathens. They’ve brainwashed poor Darcy and his lovely so capable sister. You’re so lucky to be with someone like me, oh yes you are.”
William couldn’t stop his laughter. He hated being undignified in public, but like a lot of things – Lizzie made him not care. Lizzie made him want to live.
“You’re amazing, Lizzie Bennet.” He said, adoration and devotion dripping through every syllable.
Lizzie flushed, smiling widely. And they leaned in and kissed again. William could see a waiter looking awkward, holding the bill/cheque in his hand. But he didn’t care.
Lizzie was worth it. Lizzie was worth everything.
Even being in the same room as Gigi, Lydia, Charlotte, Caroline, and Lizzie’s parents at the same time.

So, Aaron liked her honesty. Well, that was good — great, in fact — and even better that he voiced it. “I knew I liked you for a reason,” she teased. That being said, it wouldn’t have made much of a difference if he hadn’t. Lydia was honest, and yes sometimes it came out brash and abrupt but it was who she was and she was always unapologetic about it. “Yes, precisely. I don’t see the point in sugarcoating thinks or fake niceties. The truth will always come out eventually, so even if it’s an opinion they don’t like, it’s just tough. Why delay the inevitable?” she asked rhetorically with a casual shrug. Life was just easier that way and it gave people less opportunities to throw shit at them. Which, of course, she could never tolerate from anyone. Being honest and blunt made it easier though. Had she given him advice? Lydia hadn’t realised, thought she was merely bringing her opinion to the forefront for him to take and leave depending on what he felt like. In this case, it was taking, it seemed. It was sound advice though to be fair. “Ha, that’s okay. You can even triple-check if you really need to,” she bantered back with a hint of a grin playing on her lips. It was…nice. How he was so accepting of her and her stubborn nature. Yes, she was probably a bit too set in her ways and paraded around as if her word was law but Aaron never seemed to mind that or get annoyed by it. Instead, he embraced it. Which in turn definitely puzzled her in parts but also fascinated her. The things others found fault in her, he embraced her for all that she was without a problem. Though she was sure, if there was anything he disagreed with he would pull her up on it too which was fine. She liked that about him though. “And you should! Its good advice. Even if I do say so myself.”
As much as she liked to dish all the casual, playful banter, it was hilarious how she could take whatever he threw at her too. One of the (seemingly forever) growing list of things she enjoyed about him and his company. Always having an answer or retort to something she chucked at him, matching her like for like. It kept her on her toes, not knowing what to expect with him. It really was refreshing. Being around him gave her the feeling akin to the rush you feel once you hop off a scary ride at a theme park. He was like a breath of fresh air after being surrounded by pollution for so long. “Would you like me to hand over a refined list of all of my qualifications to you or what, Aaron?” Lydia chirped back, giving his leg a soft kick from under the table and proceeded to smile innocently, as if she had never even moved. It got her out from answering properly, just another one of her little ways of jesting with him. Being around him felt like she was releasing her inner child, and it felt strange having this side of her come out. But it was a welcome surprise at that. Everything flowed so smoothly, it was effortless. It was one of the many things that had her enjoying his company all the more. That grin of his that made her smile, how he could make her laugh until her face hurt. She couldn’t remember the last time she had so much fun, being around someone like that. And Lydia wanted to do anything she could to hold on to that. He made her…happy. A bizarre word, one that hadn’t even entered her vocabulary in a long time. What did it all mean? She wasn’t sure, it was hard not to be suckered right into him. Those eyes, that smile…it was hard to stop herself from going all in, all at once. The sun shined a little brighter when she was around him. At the same time, she needed to safeguard her heart. If she even had one, as she’d joked before. “You don’t need to lay it on thick to impress me; you’re already plenty interesting. I am still here, after all,” Lydia laughed softly. “Indeed I am! How is that putting pressure on me if I’m being so incredibly patient?”
Noticing the little things, like how his smile extended more depending on her random statements, was entertaining. She could tell just by looking at him that he enjoyed the idea of being Spider-Man or something. Maybe she had spidey senses too. That would make them unstoppable, invincible. Wait, why was she thinking such corny shit? She wasn’t going to go down that road. Not yet, it would only set her up for disappointment in the long run…or would it? Nope. Not going there. Too soon, way too soon. His question snapped her out of her own mini daydream and she stared at him in bewilderment. “Me? Believing in psychics? No, are you kidding? Like for real?” She asked incredulously, more laughter bubbling from her chest and spilled from her lips. “That’s so funny. Remember that one day when we were talking about believing in ghosts? Imagine me drawing the line at ghosts but believing in psychics.” The thought made it even funnier. Bless Aaron. He really was too precious for his own good. Maybe whoever told him he was too oblivious had a perfectly valid point. “If you’re ever short for cash, you can just pretend you are though. People pay for that kind of trash, can you believe it?” Aaron always seemed to speak highly of his mom which was lovely. Were they close? It sounded like it. It was lovely to hear. “Not doubting her intelligence for a second but have you ever stopped to think that maybe, just maybe, you suck at lying?” She smiled at that thought. He was an awful liar, huh? Valuable information worth remembering in the future. Though, she hoped he wouldn’t try and lie to her about anything. There was no reason he would do that, right? Why was she worrying? No, she wasn’t worried. His instruction not to worry had her smiling at him again. “Again, not worried. You like to say that a lot, don’t you?” An observation. It wasn’t too much pressure, right? She was only kidding. Mostly.
Was she poking her nose where it didn’t belong by pressing on with more questions? It wasn’t any of her business, yet she wanted to know because she wanted to…how to put it? Assess the situation. Make sure she was not setting herself up for failure with someone who was not over their ex. It was tricky to navigate. After all, how did you know for sure? Lydia knew because she knew herself. And because she made peace with knowing that her marriage had been screwed for plenty of time before it completely crumbled. She knew it was over before it was actually over, deep down. If he didn't want to answer, he didn't have to, there was no pressure and Lydia wasn't going to hang it over his head. They could talk about it later, much further down the line if it became an important topic again. Which, if things kept heading a certain way for their relationship then it would be normal for it to pop up in conversation, right? The whole aspect of getting to know each other. Nothing wrong with it getting started now. It might make it easier for in the future. But her question seemed to catch Aaron off guard, she noted. He had to think about it. So it doesn't feel too terrible. Did that mean he still felt bad about it? Bad, in what way? Hurt? For Lydia, her terrible feelings were up to the brim with frustration and resentment. Maybe a part of her was still wounded by it but her burning anger overpowered any other negative emotions. Or maybe it was the one thing she could focus on to avoid all the other complicated emotions. Instead of replying right away, she simply offered him a gentle smile, an encouraging one that told him silently to keep going - only if he wanted to. The last thing she wanted was to put a damper on their time together by talking about things that upset him. Nodding her head slowly, her attention fixated on him, observing him carefully. The way he spoke about how she got everything she wanted...but at what expense to Aaron? Losing some friends, not seeing his family? He even went to the extent of making a point to ensure she knew he wasn't isolated, causing her to raise an eyebrow in silent question: really? Lydia was definitely less than impressed. That sort of thing left such a sour taste in her mouth. If your partner tried to separate you from your loved ones...no fucking way. She made the decision to separate herself from her family when she was married but that was because she was dealing with grief, distancing herself after the loss of their mother and her husband had been her escape. Looking back now, it was one of her biggest regrets. It put a strain on her relationship with her siblings, one she never could quite fix. So to think about him, not being able to be around his family because of his wife - sorry, ex-wife, it made her blood boil. "Whether your family liked her or not is not a valid reason for you to not spend time with them though." Lydia couldn't hold back. Up until then, she listened loud and clear but.... this? This was something more. "I know you said you weren't isolated but in some ways, you were. Doing everything she wanted, not seeing your loved ones because of her whereas you could spend plenty of time with her own family... That's not right." Maybe she was overstepping it there but her words were not as sharp as they would have been with anyone. That said, she remained firm. Even if he saw them on his own if she had so much of a problem, it would've been something. Oh, well. The past was in the past. No going back. The way he'd spoken though...there was a little part of her that wondered whether that was truly the case. Or was Lydia already trying to search for reasons why this, whatever this was, wouldn't work? "Right. Yeah, you're right. The past should stay in the past." Hearing his laugh brightened her own face though and she couldn't help the next smile that curved her lips.
Any doubts from minutes ago dissolved within an instant. Aaron really did have that effect on her. "Totally! It's just a shitty excuse to make themselves feel smart for a flicker of a moment, whilst getting on our last nerves. Maybe the first time is kinda funny, barely. But the more you hear it, the more you want to throw something at someone so they'd shut the fuck up." In a way, it felt like gloating. Like ha ha, I know things would fuck up at your own expense, so take that, asshole. It was shitty. Maybe Lydia was definitely guilty of uttering that dreaded sentence to people in the past but when it was turned on her? Nope. She wanted to fight anyone who said it. Unlike her, who asked whatever question came to mind when they were discussing Aaron's previous marriage, he was the opposite in some ways. Just let her sit and talk about it until she stopped, he didn't seem to have any questions. It baffled her because she longed to know what was running through his head? Lydia was like an open book with her thoughts, and yet she was curious about his. Why did she care about what he thought? It wasn't like she was married to the asshole anymore. At the same time, it was fine by her. If he asked, she'd gladly answer. If he had no questions, that was fine too. Maybe he needed time to stew on it more. What was there to ask anyway? She wondered if because it was too much detail there wasn't anything else to ask? That was possible. The look on his face was obvious though, less than impressed - much like how she'd been. His rebuttal to her not being perfect comment had a cheeky grin pull at her lips. "Now you're trying to sweeten me up, aren't you?" Lydia teased, a playful gleam in her eyes. "But I know, right?" she added with a laugh, twirling her hair with mock arrogance, sticking her nose up in the air with an exaggerated flair. "Yeah, too much," she muttered under her breath, rolling her eyes at herself - at her own stupidity towards the person she once was - and scoffed a little. Though his comment was sweet, she didn't believe it. "I think we can agree to disagree on that...but I appreciate the sentiment," she settled with, lifting a shoulder up in a slight shrug. If she dwelled too much on it, she would be seething all over again. She could rant and rave about the facts...but when it came to her own personal feelings? Especially matters of the heart or... things that actually mattered in the grand scheme of things? It was like her brain wanted to shut down, forget about it. Lock it all up, throw away the key; it was easier this way. A tiny hint of a smirk etched her lips when she saw Aaron's reaction to her - probably in poor taste - joke about killing her ex-husband if she ran into him again. Did he think she was capable of it? The thought tickled her. "Oh, I definitely agree with you on that one. My life has been so much better without him in it. And to answer your question, no I haven't seen him since. Nor do I want to see him ever again. Wouldn't go near that man with a bargepole. That being said, he knows if he even dares, I know things that can get him in a lot of trouble. So, he knows it's better to stay away from me." A bit cryptic, but it was true. If Lydia wanted to, she could cause plenty of chaos, wreak havoc in his life. But that would require associating herself with him once more and she already crossed that bridge once. Once was too much, so never again was the ideal alternative. "It's only illegal if I have any intent in carrying out with it. Or if I do it, even," she quipped, a crooked smile upon her lips. "Don't look too worried," she commented additionally in a playful manner, not that he looked worried but because she thought it was funny to say it.
Too pretentious. Okay, that was certainly an opinion she could get behind. Most were like that. Aaron definitely had a point there. The know-it-all attitude too, though some could argue that Lydia had that same way of thinking. Even though she wasn't a lawyer, did that mean she had a pass? She didn't think she acted superior though - again, not a lawyer - but it was often something that some acted as though she were that way inclined. Unintentional, but she was who she was. There was no way she was going to change her ways to suit anyone who disagreed, they'd just have to lift with it. "Okay, fair enough. When you put it like that, I can definitely understand why. They do have that way about them, don't they?" she mused, humming in thought. Lydia feigned a sigh of relief when Aaron clarified that he had no intention - he wouldn't dream of it, even - of throwing bullshit at her. "Admittedly, you had me a tad concerned there for a minute so I'm glad we had that conversation. Was worried I'd have to get up and leave on the spot right there and then," she shot back with another easy laugh leaving her lips.
"Don't tell me you expected anything less?" Lydia asked oh-so-innocently, batting her eyelashes at him in a way that probably would've worked if she was a decade younger. "I like being thorough, what can I say?" Wait - did Aaron just say being there with her was a risk? There were many, many different connotations he could have meant with that. Sure, there may have been a more obvious one but for some reason, hearing him say it aloud like that had caught her off guard, brow raised. "So, what you're saying is...Being here, in this cafe, with me right now is a...risk?" She questioned with a tilt of her head, eyes narrowing as she took the sight of him in. Her voice was laced with amusement. She meant no harm but was curious as to what his answer might be to that. "Weird comments, weird balance, I'm starting to think that you're all around just weird..." she trailed off as if considering deeply that notion. Even if she thought he was weird, it was one of the many things she liked about him. Besides, if he was weird then she must be even weirder. They could be two peas in a pod, that way. Maybe they were a risk. But it was absolutely a risk she wanted to take. Despite her brain telling her to be careful, there was that daring part of her that just wanted to throw all caution to the wind and think fuck it. That idea became more and more tempting as time passed between them. But no, she must stay put for now. So she told herself. Nodding her head in agreement as Aaron spoke about dating not being the be-all-end-all kind of thing. That she could agree with, wholeheartedly. At the back of her mind, she wondered if she ever really had grasped onto that concept. She never felt lonely as such because she was always so preoccupied. Being a workaholic, taking that word to all new extremes even, sometimes she wondered whether that was an excuse to fill a void rooted somewhere deep, deep down. But no, she wouldn't admit that. She was fine. Being alone was better sometimes. There was no one who had been worth it. Up until now, that was. With time, Aaron was quickly changing her view on that - an achievement in itself since she was too obstinate to ever consider changing her way of being. Honestly? He deserved a medal for that. "I guess so. I don't know what the fuss is about, for the most part - all these expectations, or people expecting you to drop everything for them when you've only known them for five minutes? Smells of desperation to me." Lydia even wrinkled her nose up in disgust at that thought. "And there's so much more to life than finding 'the one' or whatever the fuck they say these days." People seemed to be in a rush to find their soulmate, or just a one-night stand. It was one extreme or another. And maybe she had her fair share of the latter but that were just a couple of blips. Nobody seemed to want to take the time to get to know someone, see if they were compatible. "People just act as though they're running out of time and it's pathetic, honestly." And yet there she was, thinking about diving a bit too deep with Aaron. Maybe some people really were worth the exception. Some people being one person, even. Listening to Aaron discussing his dating experiences after his marriage, she smiled sadly at him. Knowing how he felt. Part of her wanted to reach out to him again, take his hand like she had before but... would that be weird? "But moving on is a good sign...I guess I understand what you mean, though. Especially if you were hoping to reconcile or...whatever." Still, something she wondered about now. Time had passed but would he go there again if the opportunity presented itself? She didn't want to believe it but...she'd been burned before. How could she not consider it?
A month? Sounded about right for Lydia, too. If it lasted even that long. "I definitely get that," she said. "Then the more your friends try, the more you wish they didn't bother. And you look like the bad guy when you get annoyed and tell them to stop," Lydia scoffed. They meant well but it was tedious when nothing ever worked out. Because that sort of shit enabled self-doubt, and she was never one to do that. She had no room for doubting herself. Her face softened and a smile crossed her lips when Aaron mentioned reconnecting with his family and friends. That was nice, since she remembered how he told her he never saw them so much when he was married. It was nice he found his way back to them and was able to do what he could not do before. And about work - being away for so long at a time...it was a lot but they could make it work, couldn't they? Lydia spent most of her life at work too, so it wasn't like she'd be bored. Though the very lack of Aaron would make life a bit more boring. It would make them appreciate the time they had together more, and they could easily find ways to make it work or... okay, Lydia. Stop getting ahead of yourself. "Exactly, there is so much more to life than dating, definitely agree there. I'm glad you were able to reconnect with your friends and family, spending time with them, you know? Considering before. That's nice." But having someone to share those experiences with was nice, too. But she didn't add that part. Because...well, she was still thinking and considering. "It's important, I think. To discover who you are without them. You don't realise until after how much of your life actually revolved around them, how much of yourself was so intertwined with them and... I don't know. Maybe I'm talking too much." Only because it was a thought she didn't fancy going through with. She enjoyed the time they currently had together, why would she want to think about the past? "Screw the past, anyway."
Brows raised momentarily at the comment, that was a new take. A refreshing one. "That's comforting, I would like that. The honesty and shitty opinions rather than pretend." Aaron had enough of the passive aggressiveness, he couldn't do it again. It was comforting to know that Lydia was different, that she would tell him things as they were. It should be easier that way, right? Another laugh came from his lips, "Okay, true. I don't have to ask, but it never hurts to double check. And good to know...no puppies harmed on our end. I see your point though, some people really need to step it up. I'll keep your advice in mind." In case, he became one of the people that needed to do better in the first place. It was likely. Aaron wasn't perfect. It did help knowing that someone would call that out for him, if it did happen. Talking to Lydia was very interesting. It was reassurance and staying on your toes at the same time. It was a feeling unlike any other, it kept him intrigued. He enjoyed their conversations, and even more, enjoyed that they were genuine - unafraid to rub the other the wrong way. And at this point in his life, that's where he was. He was at a point where he couldn't compromise who he was, just to be loved and appreciated. Aaron had already done that once before, and it didn't work.
She teased him, and they joked around a lot. Aaron loved that. He enjoyed her jokes, and would even follow along, just to get more out of her. It wasn't just for her sake, but he did it because it brought him joy. Perhaps, that's why he was so drawn to her. Drawn in so quickly, with no sign of stopping. Not that he was trying to stop himself. "Is it not? Or do you have teaching credentials I'm missing somewhere?" He asked, with a wide grin on his face. Lydia's dramatic effects amused him beyond understanding. She wasn't worried, at least that's what she said. Aaron just couldn't place if that's genuinely where she stood, or just what she believed. He should push a bit more, try to find out what she meant by that, but he couldn't be bothered at the moment. If he asked too much, Aaron risked having all of this end before it really starts. He was still dancing on the line between going with the flow and being cautious, and it seemed that with Lydia - he was quickly adapting to whatever worked at the moment. This could be a problem for later, and no, this wasn't him avoiding anything. Just him choosing to explore it another day. There was a difference, right? And so, he only nodded acknowledging her correction. Okay, not necessarily bad. "I try to remain interesting, with the weird comments and all. Oh, you're going to just wait? Somehow, I feel like the pressure is on," he half-teased, his bright eyes focused on her.
Spidey senses, oh..wouldn't that be cool? He'd be an awesome Spider-Man. Surely, his smile had grown wider. His mind already drifting away, but her next suggestion brought him back. Psychic Sally? That was a new one. Wait, did she believe in that stuff? "You believe in psychics? It'd probably be fun, but unfortunately I've been told I'm too oblivious for all that." Though maybe, one day he'd get close to psychic level with her. Knowing her well enough to trust his spidey senses, to know when her moods changed or when she was upset at him. That would be even better than being Spider-Man. Anyway, his mind was clearly gone. He nodded in agreement, "yes, she's super smart, maybe a little too smart. She always caught me when I tried lying." Or perhaps, Aaron was just a terrible liar. Aaron's lips curved into a smile once more, not too fussed with his methods. Sounded a bit like trust, right? "Don't worry, it'll get done." It was a promise, one he really hoped he wouldn't mess up. With Lydia, it sounded like there was only one shot.
Her question caught him by surprise, though it really shouldn't have. Aaron should've known that she'd have questions. It's not like he was being very detailed. Although, most people tend to avoid asking follow-up questions, too awkward to delve into the subject. "Silly things, so much I guess. Well, I think I'm not using the right phrase, but I rather call it that so it doesn't feel too terrible." Call it like it is, and suddenly the deep wound in his chest is back. "I rushed into marriage for one. I mean, we had dated for a while of course, but we were so young. High school romance, I think we would've benefitted from taking more time, learning more about each other as we grew older." Clearly, he had given this some thought before. "I..honestly, just did a lot of what she wanted. She wanted a ring, she got it. Marriage, she got it. Dropped a few friends she didn't agree with, didn't see my family all that much. She always said my family didn't like her, and didn't feel comfortable with them. We weren't isolated though, I did spend a lot of time with her family. They were pretty nice." Aaron was quick to interject and clarify, isolated sounded horrible and that wasn't his case at all. At least he didn't think so. "I just wanted us to be happy, and I think I just let her have free reign of what that looked like for both of us. I guess I could've been a more active participant in our earlier years of marriage, but it was a big learning curve. A 19 year old navigating marriage, I was so stupid and immature then." Perhaps, this was more than Lydia had asked for, and honestly, Aaron didn't really have too many details himself. He had spent this past year, trying to untangle his past and this history with Vanessa, but there was simply too much there. "Either way, it's all in the past. No going back now." A chuckle erupted as he caught her rolling her eyes, so she was familiar with those words too. "It's their go-to phrase, isn't it? I mean, I kind of see where it comes from, but I've come to hate hearing it." That was a tough situation though, he wasn't too sure how he'd react to it if he found out a friend had married someone like that. Letting her talk was not difficult, and yes - there were so many points that he wanted to ask a follow-up question, but situations like these, sometimes your only role was to listen. That lesson took a while to learn. Still, he couldn't help his reactions. He hoped they weren't off-putting. "That's terrible...you not being perfect? That doesn't sound possible," he half-teased. He raised an eyebrow at that comment. I can fix him girls? "Well, no one can say you didn't try. A lot. Maybe even more than the average person, and I don't know...that doesn't seem pathetic to me." His eyes widened momentarily, kill him. Woah. Strong words. But, she smiled so it was definitely a joke. "So, you haven't seen him since? Probably for the best to be honest." Strong feelings toward her ex-husband, but at least he didn't have to worry about her not being over him. Clearly, that ship had sailed. "I feel like just hearing you say that was illegal," he commented, following along with her joke. It's not like the guy would turn up dead, right? Besides, Aaron understood what she meant. Having so much anger for one person certainly felt that way.
Aaron shook his head at the question, it's not like he had a good answer. "Why I don't like lawyers..too pretentious for my taste. Lawyers always have this air of...like superiority and like they know everything. Something about them just irritates me." Probably all the pre-law students he encountered while he was in school. "It is obvious, but no. I wouldn't dream of throwing bullshit at you." It didn't mean that shit wouldn't show up for them though.
Her grin didn't go unnoticed, did she like being called boss? Would she let it stick as her nickname? It seemed like it amused her enough. "So, you're going to be checking all my work?" Not even his notes were safe huh? Aaron hadn't noticed that her hand was still on his. It seemed to just fit there, and it was comfortable, so he didn't see anything wrong with just staying this way. However, he did notice when she pulled back. Ah, she got him. Reminding him of what he said earlier. "True, but I try doing one safe thing for all the other risky things I do. And being here with you is a risk though. Isn't it? So, you know - just trying to keep some weird balance." Double checking her intentions, as he had said earlier, was his safe thing. Everything else, Aaron was ready to jump in the dark. All risks, hopefully some reward. He listened to her talk about some of her dating experience post-husband. "I get that." It seemed to mirror some of his own experience. Nothing notable that he could point out. "Well, dating isn't everything in life I suppose. As long as you've been on your own, but not lonely..that's something." That was a harsh truth he had to face some time ago, difference between alone and lonely. "Me?" He leaned back a bit into his seat, as if in deep thought, though there wasn't too much to think about. "I've dated a bit since the divorce. I avoided it for a while, with my denial and all that. In case we backtracked from the separation, I didn't want her to see me dating, for her to think I was moving on." How pathetic, right? "I've done a few blind dates, friends trying to help, but nothing has really panned out. I think the furthest I've made it was a month with someone." This was sounding a bit too depressing. Aaron cleared his throat, leaning back into his seat, resting his arms on the table. "It's been a lot easier to focus on other things instead. Work is a lot easier, I can volunteer for those big projects away from home, being away for months at a time. I've been working on reconnecting with my family..some friends. So, not all bad. I mean, not that I wouldn't do this even if I was dating someone. It was just good to be on my own, like you said. To reconnect with myself, sorta."

TEN / ( INSPIRATION FOR MUSE
For Damon, honestly, I just remember thinking how we were similar in some ways. Also, I had two friends who dragged me into the RP world who played Elena and a daughter of Delena.
For Veronica, I’d always had the idea for a TVD OC with Lily Collins’ FC. Tbh I just kind of wrote out her bio one day. It was kind of a stream of consciousness type thing where it all just came out. I love her to bits though. She’s my cutie.
For Clarke, I love her to death. I can feel her pain in every episode and understand her need to care for everyone. I hate that she gets hurt so much bc she’s just trying her best to do what’s best for her people and to keep everyone happy.
For Derek, it’s kind of the same. He’s gone through so much and puts himself last. He tries to do what he thinks is right and a lot of the time it ends up messy. He’s pure, though and I love him so much.
For Allison, I adore how strong she is even when she’s “weak”. She wants nothing more than to be her own person and if that means shooting arrows through monsters, fine. She also just wants to be a girl. She loves spending her time with Lydia and being girly.
For Candice, she’s another OC I kind of built around the FC. I fell in love with Violett Beane and needed to make a character for her. Candice is kind of everything I’m not, with a few exceptions. She’s majorly outgoing and ambitious. She’s a party girl and will do most anything to get what she wants. (We’re similar in our love of fashion)
For Jessica, I adore my lil angry bean. She’s so traumatized and builds so many walls around herself. She wants to do what’s right but screws it up a lot. I feel that.
ELEVEN / ( STORY BEHIND URL )
All my bbs have damaged souls, basically. Everyone has their trauma and their demons.
