Location: Murudeshwar Temple, Karnataka, India
This temple is built on Kanduka Hill (Karnataka State, India), surrounded on three sides by the waters of the Arabian Sea. The magnificent 123-foot-long statue of Lord Shiva (the world's second tallest statue of Shiva) in the backdrop lends the Raja Gopuram a majestic look.
I took this fotog from the 18th floor of Raja Gopuram, the tallest Gopuram in Asia (249 feet) including the ground floor with 21 floors. This is the only gopuram with a lift and devotees can go right to the top. The base measures 105 feet in length and 51 feet in breadth.

Shivji in Karnataka
Murudeshwara is a temple town in Bhatkala Taluk, North Canara district in Coastal Karnataka. Located on the main Mangalore- Karwar Highway, Its main attraction is the massive Shiva statue which is 123ft high.
Since 2006, the Shiva statue has stood as an illuminating symbol of peace and enlightenment. It is visible from quite a distance because of its staggering height of 123 ft. The mythology and history linked with Murdeshwar is captivating because of its reference in the ancient Indian epic – Ramayana.
According to the legend, demon King Ravana was returning to Lanka (his home) with Atma Lingam (helps in attaining immortality) given by Lord Shiva on one condition that it must not be kept on the ground except Lanka.
But Lord Ganesha with help of Lord Vishnu tricked Ravana and Atma lingam was placed on the earth. It made Ravana furious who used all his strength to remove the lingam from the ground and in that pursuit some parts were scattered nearby.
So, Gokarna was the place where Aatmalingam was placed and now it is worshipped as Mahabaleshwara. The cloth on the Atma lingam fell on the Kanduka hill which is now worshipped as Murdeshwara.
This was the first time I had seen such a huge statue. It is a must visit place for those on their way to Mangalore from Goa.

Lost in Paradise: India’s Untouched Islands Waiting to Be Explored
Tumblr media
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep capture most of the attention when people search for island retreats in India. Beyond the Andaman and Lakshadweep islands there exist multiple pristine Indian islands that maintain untouched status and beautiful peace. The hidden treasures provide secluded relaxation through their combination of peaceful atmosphere with thrilling pursuits and vibrant heritage.
Vacationers looking for different tourist points can now discover India’s secluded island locations by booking their plane travel. Cheapest flight tickets and flight options to these hidden destinations can actually be obtained quite easily.
1. The hidden gem of Karnataka exists in the St. Mary’s Islands
Near Malpe in Karnataka there exists St. Mary’s Islands which display remarkable geological formations although they remain hidden from most sight. Two thousand and eighty-eight million years old basalt rock formations shape these four tiny islands into their famous hexagonal shapes. Lies the story that Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama made a stop at this location during his voyage to India which left a notable historical mark.
A location ideal for escaping to the wilderness features beautiful white sandy beaches and clear ocean waves as well as pure natural surroundings at St. Mary’s Islands. Travelers can reach St. Mary’s Islands from Malpe Beach via short ferry services that enable visitors to visit and explore both swimming and nature observations or eating lunch on the islands.
The pro suggestion to visit Udupi during your travel will provide you with temple exploration along with mouthwatering South Indian food. Guests benefit from affordable flights at Mangalore airport since it serves as the closest aviation hub.
2. Netrani Island: A Scuba Diver’s Paradise
Adventure seekers, take note! The scuba diving destination of Netrani Island exists off the beach town of Murudeshwara in Karnataka. Netrani Island gains its nickname as “Mini Mauritius of India” because its heart-shaped shape and deep coral reefs protect various sea creatures starting from turtles through colorful fish and reef sharks.
Quality water clarity at the island positions it among the greatest diving destinations in India. People who do not perform scuba diving have several options at Netrani Island including snorkeling and kayaking and boat trips to view the tremendous ocean panoramas.
Reach Netrani Island by flying to Goa or Mangalore because these airports have numerous flights at affordable prices followed by a quick car drive to Murudeshwara. A boat journey from the specific location will lead guests to this submerged wonderland.
3. Majuli Island: The World’s Largest River Island
The cultural and geographical importance of Majuli Island in Assam resides within the Brahmaputra River. Unique among the largest rivers in the world Majuli continues to stand out through its location because of its collection of neo-Vaishnavite monasteries or satras that protect traditional music along with dance and Assamese art heritage.
This island attracts visitors who desire cultural exploration and peaceful enjoyment by featuring its natural forests and cultural celebrations across its numerous villages. People visiting Majuli can either pedal through its villages to experience the local culture or take in sunset views of the Brahmaputra.
One can access Majuli through flights to Jorhat airport and a picturesque ferry navigation across to the island.
4. Pamban Island: A Blend of History and Scenic Beauty
Pamban Island holds two prominent attractions which include the Ramanathaswamy Temple and Pamban Bridge at Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu. The island blends spiritual heritage with natural landscapes including peaceful beaches that extend from Dhanushkodi to Ariyaman.
The 1964 cyclone turned Dhanushkodi into a ghost town which remains today as an otherworldly sight that showcases natural forces at their destructive peak. Traveling the route to Dhanushkodi creates memories that will last forever since ocean waters surround you from both directions.
Passengers can easily access Pamban Island through the flight booking services to Madurai or Chennai. The fascinating destination is accessible by driving for a short time from both cities.
5. Divar Island: Goa’s Best-Kept Secret
The popular beach and nightlife centers of Goa attract many visitors while Divar Island functions as its peaceful alternative. This remote island stands in the Mandovi River as an ideal choice for people who love nature along with those interested in history.
The island welcomes visitors with biking opportunities to see past Portuguese architecture and multiple historic temples. Visitors seeking tranquility should visit Divar Island because its peaceful environment attracts people seeking solace beyond the typical Goa touristic activity.
Visitors can reach Divar Island without difficulty by doing a ferry transfer from Panaji after arriving by flight to Goa. Cheap airfare to Goa enables travelers to reach its charming retreat after a brief journey.
6. Munroe Island: Kerala’s Backwater Paradise
The Kerala backwater paradise exists where the Ashtamudi Lake and the Kallada River meet at Munroe Island. British resident Colonel Munroe gave his name to this island which maintains its reputation for peaceful canals together with beautiful landscapes and typical village communities.
You can choose between boating through tiny water passages or observing coir manufacturing or enjoying the peaceful natural environment. Nature explores of Kerala recognize Munroe Island as their best choice among away-from-the-crowd travel destinations.
Travel to Munroe Island through two primary airports between Trivandrum and Kochi and drive to Kollam before enjoying the picturesque water voyage.
Conclusion
The exploration of India’s concealed island attractions marks the conclusion of this study.
These neglected islands in India present travelers an enticing substitute to busy travel destinations where they can experience both natural wonders and cultural traditions. St. Mary’s Islands showcase basalt hexagons while Pamban delivers spiritual sites alongside stunning natural landscapes which combined create rare experiences for visitors.
The next time you reserve your next vacation plan consider choosing one of these lesser-known island destinations instead of typical tourist areas. Travelers can now explore these treasures because flight deals and booking facilities have become affordable and simple to reach through modern options.
Prepare your suitcase along with airline reservations and begin your exotic island journey that avoids standard tourist routes. Hidden gems are ready to be found by those who want to uncover them.
This blog shows travelers how to visit unorthodox island locations while encouraging them to visit destinations that differ from the regular choices. The numerous islands around India serve unique experiences to suit everyone from adventurers to cultural explorers and people who desire peaceful time alone. Affordable flight bookings make it possible for you to arrange your next island vacation when you please.
