@emcads said "what, am I not allowed to look at you?" [ x ]
The events leading up to this moment in Murtogg's life as a pirate happened very fast. Too fast for him to comprehend what was going on. He was on the Pearl with Captain Barbossa one moment watching a card game between him ( Barbossa ) and a female pirate that Murtogg couldn't recall the name of. He did recall her looks and he was ... impressed. There weren't many female pirates that he had seen in his short career so far on the open seas of the Caribbean. Just two or three.
Tumblr media
When he found himself on a new ship, it was different. It hit him suddenly that he'd been sold in a sense by his former Captain to the Spanish female Captain from the card game. Mullroy wasn't in the trade either, so he was truly on his own now and it worried him. The female's words finally hit him, "Uhm. I'm not sure, are you allowed to look at me? I mean, I'm not stopping you from looking?" he honestly didn't know the rules at the moment. Was he allowed to look at her? Was she allowed to look at him? Who knew really, he surely didn't. He also had the understanding that his role as a former marine with the Royal Navy came up a few times , during that fateful card game. A gulp escaped him, now realizing he was probably staring at his new captain. He was making a fool of himself and nobody was there to help him either. " -- am I allowed to look at you?"

Was his friend with another man? Not that he was aware of. She had friends, yes ... but he never asked her is she was with another. If she was, Murtogg wouldn't know truly want to do with himself. He loved this woman deeply. More deeply than he realized. She was a traveler and a wonderer. Always going off to explore and chart the world. Much lie her father did. Yet, she was a woman and an amazing woman who he gained a deep admiration for. "I -- don't think she's with another." he paused, now curious if she was romantically involved with another man. If she was, it would be a strange and depressing thing for the man. "I hope she's not with anyone else. She's a great woman and deserves a good man." He didn't see himself as a good enough man for his lady friend, but then again he did. It was odd, but he awkwardly thought he was the only man for her -- yet could never bring himself to acting on it ( let alone saying anything ).
Again, the whole conversation was weird. He never talked about romance to anyone. Ever. A quirked brow and a heavy sigh came from Murtogg's lips again. "Women are very strange. Beautiful and I'm supposing mysterious." He wasn't quit sure what else to say over the subject. Mullroy would've argued over him being an idiot for not knowing how to court a woman. Murtogg would rather not face the scrutiny of the crew over it. He had many secrets revolving around himself in the regards of relationships ( or lack thereof ) that he'd rather be kept. " -- well, the rest of the crew don't look the type to spare me some relationship advise." he joked, halfhearted.

landfall
On a bright fateful morn, Jack Sparrow brings rumors of the Black Pearl and her crew of the damned to Port Royal. In theory, the ship should be no match for the dragon Tempest and his Captain Norrington — but the Pearl harbors a dangerous shadow and a wicked ally of their own. or: potc, but temeraire, multi-chapter wip. sequel to windfall
“Well, well. Jack Sparrow, isn't it?”
Norrington flicks his eyes up. Sparrow pulls his hand free and cradles it to his chest. “Captain Jack Sparrow, if you please.”
“I don’t see your ship, Captain,” Norrington says, and looks about the harbor for dramatic effect.
“Perhaps I’ve got one of these dreadful beasties all for meself, lying just around the cliffs here.”
He gestures to Tempest, who sets his ears back, affronted and hissing.
“No respectable dragon would ever ride with pirates,” Tempest insists.
“Ah,” Sparrow says, smiling sourly, “but they would. Just because you’ve never encountered something doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist, savvy? Like the Black Pearl,” with a nod at Murtogg and Mullroy, who pale at the acknowledgement. Sparrow continues, smug, “It’s like what all your charts say — here there be monsters, ‘nd all that.”
Murtogg puts in, “The original Latin phrase translates to Here be dragons, actually, so it’s even more appropriate.”
Mullroy elbows Murtogg to shut up. Sparrow pipes up, “Thank you kindly! Your man has a point, Captain. You never know what lies beyond the edge of the map.”
Norrington narrows his eyes. Sparrow is rather insistent on this point, and even raises his eyebrows at Norrington, waiting for someone to ask a question. Norrington says instead, “Enough hearsay. Captain Gillette, I believe this man falls under your purview.”

Thinking about the threads with Ghost!Murtogg and Ghost!James that Theo has going on. And then prompts of 'what would your character do if mine died'
And a thing i've thought about a lot is just how Theo doesn't get death. When he dies, he gets better he learned this the hard way during the rev war and he's not really experienced his friends aging and dying to leave him behind, nor has he actually seen one of them die in battle before.
he just….doesn't really get it. he's killed pirates or smugglers and other badguys himself, he's seen people that he kinda sorta knows in passing die in battle, but it's not the same as a close friend.
he's terrified of death in general, his and his friend's because he doesn't get it.
and then in his potc verses where magic is a very real and regular thing he isn't there when james dies and he finds out way after the fact. same thing for richard in verses where he dies also - theo finds out way way later. and then jack and barbossa, both of them don't stay dead for very long either.
so he's upset and hurt because why do two pirates get to come back from the dead and not the two most important people in his own life.
it's not fair, he doesn't get it. he doesn't know how to cope without the people he leans on and relies on and is a bit too codependant on and he might be plotting to find some way to convince the two of them to repeat whatever tricks jack and barbossa used to please dont be dead anymore

These days I’ve taken to desperately generating my own serotonin by turning swashbuckling pirates into little kids playing pretend and cruel heartless villains into tired grownups.
(I don’t know if anyone is gonna mind this, but it’s not that Davy Jones has less marine growth than the rest of his crew. I was just feeling lazier when I drew him. And yes, it’s a Splatoon joke in the first image there.)
Some more stuff from Discord (or my brain) that I was too tired to screenshot and edit (warning - text dump):
At World's End is just Jack being caught aboard the Dutchman several days into a fishing trip and being let off at the nearest port town that's a few hours' drive from where he came from. He perceives it as a barren wasteland because everyone is so damn boring and he doesn't know anyone there. There's some kind of ship statue in the square that he keeps shoving, to try and get it out of the ground, while passers-by stare. The other kids go on a road trip to pick him up.
William keeps pestering Sao Feng - the Chinese teacher - to give them a ride because he's the only grownup he knows that has a van. (Or maybe Sao Feng runs the local Chinese place and just tells one of his employees to take the kids along on their next delivery/supply run.) Davy Jones can’t step on land because he’s on parole - he was deemed too much of a public menace on land. More on that later.
Alternatively, they find out that Jack stole Beckett’s wallet, and so temporarily join forces to track him down (mentioned in main post above).
The ‘final battle’ may or may not be the kids getting into a bit of a major scuffle with Beckett, resulting in the latter falling in the sea. Mercer is, at the time, stationed aboard a company vessel captained by Jones and unable to help. He hears of this incident later through a phone call.
Davy Jones can’t step on land because he’s on parole - he was deemed too much of a public menace on land. More on that later.
Jones and Calypso are (pretty much) an old married couple, and the curse was caused by a very petty argument. And it was supposed to be something like only being able to sleep on couches until he apologized (which he refuses to). The fishy thing was an unintended side effect.
Mayor Swann is in no danger of being assassinated, though he and Beckett are at odds over certain business matters. Elizabeth figures Beckett is the reason for her father being stressed out more often recently.
There is a large touchscreen in Beckett’s office that is usually left to display a world map with miscellaneous real-time statistics.
William lives with the local locksmith who’s a friend (or relative) of Bill when he’s not around. They try to keep up with each other whenever Bill gets a signal. Sometimes the Dutchman will make port and Bill’s inbox will be flooded with week-old text messages such as “DAD HOW DO I FIX THIS” “nvm I found out”.
Norrington also finds himself spending quite some time keeping Will company.
Davy Jones himself isn’t a fan of children, but some of the crew members are like “WHERE’S OUR LITTLE BOY” whenever they dock at Will’s town.
