Another day, another commission of a long-awaited Murder Fabrication character \(@^0^@)/ This cool skrunkly art of Keith by the amazing @anaizzzen looks cooler the longer you look at it, and even more so from up close!

Hi again! Here is Ciel's finished portrait, as well as a certain soldier's and... what's that...? A character who has yet to be revealed?! \(〇_o)/
I'm about halfway done with these icons... So far so good. That shadow-character looks really fun, so it's a shame someone (it's me, I'm someone) hasn't introduced them yet.

OC-tober Day 5 & 6: Relationships & Symbol
To compensate for being late for Day 5, I'll talk about something that mixes up both days. On top of that, to prove that my choice of character for Day 1 was a reasonable one, I will once again talk about something that pertains to Jan.
I'll ask you to first take a look at this old sketch for a sprite edit. This was for my personal project inspired by Mozart l'Opéra Rock, and it uses his old sprite, which features slight mistakes in his palette, but it still comes together fairly nicely in my opinion.
Tumblr media
I'd really like to re-use this jacket/colour on him eventually. Still, what I want you to take notice of is the pin on his lapel.
This is not a definite design, just a concept - what it says is "JA DA", and my concept for it would be that the letters be written so fancily that the viewer might not realise they're letters at first.
This is an idea I have for a symbol representing Jan's friend group, which consists of Jan, Adele, Damien and Ashley.
This is part of Murder Fabrication's canon, by the way. Jan is a student in a prestigious music school, in which he studies multiple instruments and genres, but specialises in the piano and classical music. When he joined said school, he was pleasantly surprised to run into his best friend Damien. (If you'd like to know why he didn't know Damien was joining the same school he was ahead of time, I'll have to ask that you wait until a certain arc of Murder Fabrication has been published. Wink, wink.)
Jan befriended their classmate Adele, who happens to be a violinist and share his speciality in classical music. Damien, a bassist, also befriended another one of their classmates named Ashley, a drummer. The four of them quickly became close friends, and together they form the worst band you've ever heard of, consisting of a pianist, a violinist, a bassist and a drummer.
Though they may actually act as a band sometimes, they're mostly friends who happen to each main a different instrument. Still, as fellow musicians in a prestigious establishment, they decided to come up with a symbol or logo they might use to represent them as a group; more so to have a neat representation of their bond than to make themselves look professional in any way. Noticing how the first letters of their names fit together, they decided on a "fancy looking" logo that would use them.
Though this is all worldbuilding/side quests if anything, I have a soft spot for Jan's friend group. Damien, Ashley and Adele are each someone Jan cares about deeply in a different way, and they each love Jan in their own personal way. Neither of them is any less important - either being the person he trusts the most, or the person he wants to spend the most time with, or the epitome of what he thinks is cool, though maybe they don't realise the extent of it, Jan admires each one of them.
His relationship with each of them are perfect examples to use to explore how Jan feels about his loved ones and, generally, those around him, and how they feel about him.

Calling out all UTAU and Murder Fabrication enthusiasts........
I'm the official voice actor for famous Fashionista Emily Drake. Except I'm not very good, but I want to practice. Lately, I've been considering making an UTAU for her. Considering that this is only one of my first few attempts, please listen to this and tell me if it's worth trying to make into a voicebank (for funsies!) at all:
I am considering, within the scope of possibility, making an AI voicebank. Emily is a character whose voice requires *some range*. She goes back and forth between speaking (and as such singing) with her chest and with her throat. She would be ideal for emotional songs that would justify sounding like she's going through a range of feelings all in a row.
I've never even made a regular UTAU though, so for now I'm just considering for a fun "what if?"
Btw, click through for a comparison with how I might sing this if I weren't trying to sound like Emily.

Ya know I had a crack theory a while back that
Pomni was Tessa
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mainly because of the fact that cyn said this to Tessa
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And since we all know what happened there
Tumblr media
I thought, hey wouldn’t it be funny if Tessa was stuck in some digital space as a sort of way for cyn to keep her promise?
Tumblr media
But that would be crazy right
RIGHT?

Do you love Murder Fabrication and hate human voices? I have just the thing for you: a full list of Murder Fabrication's vocal synth-only songs.
All of the songs listed here are available on YouTube and should work even despite the NND outage. You can listen to them from VocaDB directly by pressing Play!
Of course, if you like humans as well, or if you'd like to listen to these songs character by character instead of this ~special order~ I came up with, feel free to take a look at the actual playlists.

You can save all three of them, but you have to sacrifice your life in exchange. Will you do it?
First batch of a new project to draw icons for each Fabricated Despair design! (Excluding side characters - this includes Mrs. and Mr. Lynn - for now.) These three characters were described in text form, so hopefully, you already had an idea what they looked like. If by any chance anyone reading this has also read Fabricated Despair and has a favourite design, please let me know and I may prioritise it!

OC-tober Day 1: Fave OC
As I announced on my main blog here, I will be participating in beweird's OC-tober prompt list across blogs. This is the blog that I'll use to either write something for an OC, or talk about the writing of an OC. For Day 1, I will be doing the latter.
Fave OC? That's like asking me who's my favourite child. (It's whoever's closest at the time of asking.)
I don't really have a single favourite OC, and my brainrot can sometimes move from OC to OC, cast to cast. Still, if you know me, you'll know I'm a hypocrite if I don't choose Jan.
Oftentimes, when I think about my "main biases", the list will be something like Jan, Akiro, Keith, Benjamin, Hermès, Artémis. But God knows I've had periods of having intense Rin brainrot. I'll even brainrot on an OC who's supposed to be a side character from time to time (looking at you, Ashley). Still, Jan and Akiro are my most specialest of boys, and I'll have to go for Jan because at least his creation wasn't an act of God.
(...You'll have to ask me more details about that if you wish to understand. I guess it makes Akiro sort of like Jesus. Somewhat.)
Jan is one of my most well-known OCs because he is currently a character in my very long Danganronpa-style story, @murderfabrication. Among this cast, he is one of the few characters I'd created long before I planned to have a fangan, for an independent story. He's fighting with Noah for the award of oldest (creation wise) on a technicality.
Tumblr media
Here is the boy as he appears in Murder Fabrication (which is a passion project I recommend you read), although this is by far not my favourite iteration of his design-wise. Because of the cruelty ingrained in this story, Murder Fabrication Jan is stuck in his boring school uniform and doesn't get to show off either his dazzling sense of style, or an important item that he is now left to wear in secret. I really wish to stop using the Danganronpa sprite artstyle at some point, because despite being accurate, it makes him look weird, like I can't get across how his hair would feel, how handsome and special and pretty-boy-ish he's supposed to be.
I created Jan when I was 15. Once their outline exists, I tend to view my characters over time as though I'm learning to know them, rather than coming up with them. Because of that, it seriously feels to me as though Jan and I grew together. He is in fact the character that makes me feel the most like I "learned to know him": there are many aspects of his personality and story I knew were right from the start, but I didn't know why or the details of how - I might even have been awkward at writing them because of that; and it's as I gained more knowledge about the world, myself, people in general, and as I spent more time thinking about Jan, that those things eventually started to make sense.
Although I have at times used Jan in Alternate Universes where I changed aspects of who he was on purpose, I don't think there's anything I've ever retconned about his "default" personality and story. There are obviously things I'd write differently by virtue of no longer being 15 years old, things I might opt out of saying because they're better off implied, things I'll emphasise more, etc.; but rather than rewriting his story to make it better now that I'm a better writer, with Jan, it really appears that I'm getting to know him - most likely as I become a better writer.
"Something I knew I wanted him to do, but I didn't know why"? Now I know what it means. "A part of his backstory I knew was included, but I didn't know when"? Now I do. It didn't really require any effort. He lives in my head constantly. Akiro is very much the same, though it comes across slightly differently, because of the act-of-God thing.
I'm most satisfied with his writing in Murder Fabrication. Being seen from the third person benefits Jan greatly. I'm satisfied with the way I've presented him as the shockingly nice and charming young man that he is, while using his actions, his surroundings, and his rare missteps as tools to hint at what else there is to say about him. Jan is an interesting character to write in my opinion, because he's the stereotype of the perfect, perfectly handsome man, but from knowing him by heart, I know what it is that makes him so realistic. And it's that aspect that makes him so near and dear to me.
Here's an example I think is a good instance of Neo, Murder Fabrication's protagonist, noticing what makes Jan succeed at being perfect: in a certain chapter of the story, Neo enters the dining room while Jan is in the kitchen, in the middle of preparing hot cocoa for someone else and himself. When he comes out of the kitchen, Jan gives Neo a cup of tea, apologising for not having enough time to prepare a third hot cocoa for him. Neo is touched, and the tea tastes "ridiculously good".
He quickly notes that the tea is sweetened, just like he likes to drink it. After listening to Jan's chat with the other person, he notes to himself that the tea isn't perfect because Jan, a talented pianist, is somehow also a master of making tea. What made the tea so good was the good timing, the attention paid to his tastes - both liking tea in the first place, and the amount of sugar he puts in it -, the care he put into making it, and that his way of offering made him desire it.
(...Though what does the effort I put into writing Jan accurately to who he really is mean to anyone if I don't eventually make the ever-popular ship Akijan canon? No one shall know, as I continue to insist... not canon. ✍(◔◡◔) )

Shooting this right back at ya.
🐙
Thank you.......... Somehow I found the strength to keep studying past my alarm but I will Now Be Indulging In Brain Rot.
Prompt from this ask game!
🐙 a pretty/elaborate quote from a published work
Let's see... I'll look for something, because nothing springs to mind right off the bat. If I were asked again, I might be inspired by something else I've written... ( •̀ .̫ •́ )✧
...Actually, I'll go with the first one to have come to mind, after all. I looked at your own reply to this prompt, and after barely even laying eyes on your replies, my "sandcastle" quote sprang to mind. Maybe because it's a favourite of @cr0sscutter's?
“Everything has lost meaning. Everything I do—everything that concerns me, that is. It all feels like a waste of time. Everything I do—I think “but why do I do it?” and not in a meaningful way. Let’s say you were building a sandcastle. You spent a lot of time on it, hours, however long it takes for the tide to rise… The tide is rising, and you’re continuously adding details to the sandcastle. The water is right there, but you continue to make the sandcastle better… Why? You can tell that it’s going to fall apart… Soon… Now. Actually, that’s probably not a good analogy. There are people who will continue to build the sandcastle anyway. Maybe I should be like that. Maybe I’m the one who doesn’t understand. It’s true. I think that’s the case. Well, either way… I started building a sandcastle, but now that I’m seeing the water rise… No… Now that I know the water will rise…” - Depressed
This is a quote from my character Benjamin's diary! I'd say it's more elaborate than pretty - not that it isn't pretty, because I like to look back at it as something meaningful to Ben's heart.

ngl I always find it wild to see Star Wars stuff that's like "if you think about it in terms of realistic statistics/science then..." about almost any aspect of it.
I mean, what about the Star Wars films gives the impression that this universe abides by realistic statistics, or realistic anything else? SW is broadly a fantasy epic projected onto an IMAX screen with a space background painted on it. Yeah, the planets and moons in the films almost always have improbably limited biomes and two major locations max, because narratively these locations are usually just fantasy city-states with space aesthetics.
Starships travel at the speed of plot and we simply jump past the amount of time that presumably is passing, and sort of imply the passage of that time through shifts in the character dynamics. But this passage of time cannot be analyzed with any kind of consistency because the only logic governing it is the pace of the story.
Just how long did it take the Empire to send a full contingent of forces to Dantooine, search the entire planet, find the Rebel base, and then report back to Tarkin between one scene and another? No one says and no one appears to care. How long did it take Han and Leia to reach Bespin and what exactly went on between them while Luke was, in the same time frame, going through a protracted training over multiple days at an absolute minimum? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
How do giant space worms survive inside asteroids that somehow have an Earth-approximate gravitational field and I guess an atmosphere? Shhhh don't think about it. The point of the sequence is not "how does the giant space worm subsist off this random asteroid and how does it breathe and how does gravity work in this context, seriously" but that the giant worm sequence is fucking sick.
There's probably some after the fact EU justification invented by people who had nothing to do with the original writing of the space worm (or perhaps there are several mutually incompatible explanations) and I am profoundly disinterested in them. Nothing could make this even slightly realistic and it was never intended to be. Star Wars sings space shanties at scientific/mathematical realism as it sails past on a completely different ship going in the exact opposite direction.
And I do mean "sails" because while astronomy might tell us that space is unfamiliar and wild on a level we as Earthbound lifeforms can barely comprehend, Star Wars understands that space is basically an ocean, yet with stars and cool but survivable planets in it, or sometimes it's air but combined with a super cool space background so you can have early 20th century aerial combat that would make no sense in actual space conditions and doesn't need to.
"If you consider relativity, then just running the Empire would be..." General relativity does not govern the galaxy far, far away. Space magic does. I'm not sure there are even time zones.
